I know, I know... how could I do such a thing??? I was only able to bank 50% and now must use, or lose around 80+ points before March!!! Being from NJ means booking another flight, or going somewhere close. Any suggestions from others who have booked outside of WDW.
Thanks!

Consider the Concierge Collection.

I'm assuming you have an April Use Year? If you are going to use them for a non-DVC trip be sure to make your reservations no later than 60 days before the end of March. You can take the trip right up until lthe end of March but it has to be reserved prior to the end of January.

We have a March use year, so we must move on our plans before the end of Dec! Has ANYONE gone to NYC and stayed at the plaza... is it nice? I know it's 75 points just for 1 night, but at least we would be getting something. Another question. Does anyone know if you can take a cruise with half points and half cash payment. All these questions, but I really don't want to lose those points. Thanks for any help.

We did exactly what you asked about, used our points at the Plaza which is someplace I would have never considered being we are only a short ride from NYC. It was wonderful! I loved the hotel and staying there was a blast. It's also just nice to stay in the city and enjoy the atmosphere. We have stayed overnight a few times since, but not at the Plaza. I just have a hard time shelling out 400+ for one night . It was well worth the points!

The Plaza is a NYC landmark and one of the finest hotels in the world. Reports from people who have used their points to stay there have all been positive.

Thanks for your responses. We'll look into the plaza, maybe in December. THis will be a special holiday for NYC this year.

Bonzie1- We booked 2 nights at the Plaza on points for our anniversary last December. It was great! Do it, you won't regret using the points. NYC is so special at Christmas & this year will be even better as the city has pulled together so much more because of the WTC disaster.

If you go on a weekend, go to TKTS booth on 42nd &7th. Be there a bit before 9 AM for a Sat. or before 11AM for a Sun.& see what half price matinees are there. We went down 2 weeks ago & got Tics to 42nd St.- great seats. The Theatre trade is still off, so you'd be doing your patriotic duty by patronizing the theatres too! Of course there's always Radio City Christmas Spectacular- a perennial favorite!

Also, you can book DCL cruise with cash & points through DVC. You must pay it on a PP basis. Many people pay for adults with points, kids with cash. Call DVC for details- they are very helpful. They still have their DVC point special going for some Dec. sailings. Go to DVC members website for details.

Hope this helps!

And I think that may have been the best mistake I've made!

We are leaving for Tanque Verde in a couple of weeks because I forgot to bank the points in time. So, we figured we were either going to use them or lose them. We chose to use them someplace different. And, our WDW trip is in January! I love vacations!!!!! :bounce: :D :bounce: :D :bounce:

I'm thinking about doing the plaza someday but...have you considered other places nearby in the Concierge Collection? If you aren't averse to snow there are a number of choices within 4 to 6 hours of NYC...in upstate NY & Vermont...there is also Boston. At least with other locations you could get to stay both Friday & Saturday.

I'm not sure where Yardville is but you could also consider heading in a southerly direction as well.

Edit Note: Out of curiousity I looked it up....You could do the Shelburne Murray Hill for 39 points a night...so you could do Friday & Sat in New York rather than one night at the Plaza for 75 or 78 (depending on if you are talking 2001 or 2002).

I also know where Yardville is now so the NYC hotels & the Jefferson are your two closests choices but I might still check out the The Sagamore, The Equinox, and The Woodstock Inn or Topnotch at Stowe.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all of your suggestions. We just returned from WDW. Great time, lots of changes though. You've given me a lot to think about using up our unbanked points! Thanks for the detail of your responses too. Now that we're back safe and sound, I'll just have to plan another vacation!!! Ha!

They also have " the one time only, forgot to bank my points deal". We used it a couple of years ago. Good luck.

We needed to use or lose points this year, and spent a weekend at the Equinox in Vermont. It was wonderful, and something we would not have done if not "forced" into it. :D

What did you enjoy about the Equinox? I'm curious because I will probably visit the local trade options as time goes by...

What is " the one time only, forgot to bank my points deal". We used it a couple of years ago". I never heard of this before and might need it in the future.
Thanks.
Tony.

DVC currently allows you to one time, bank points forward regardless of banking deadlines. This is a one shot deal and once it's done, you never get the chance to do it again.

You must make the decision whether the amount of points affected are sufficient to justify using this option, using the points in some other fashion, or losing the points.

We used the "one time" banking option when we purchased a resale in 1999. The owner of the points had not banked any of the 230 points, and we would have had to use them in the first 3 months of 2000. We were able to bank the points and then subsequently use them for a cruise in August 2000. The CM at member services made certain that I knew that I could only do this once. Period. Not once per contract. Once. In our case, we were talking about 230 points and we felt that banking them was the best alternative.

When we waited too long to bank all our points, we sent my parents to a bed & breakfast in New England. They are retired & were able to go mid-wk, so we maximized the stay/pts. They really enjoyed the surprise trip.

Anyone know if the "one time banking option" would apply to points that were borrowed from another use year?

I am looking at a BWV resale that has all of the Dec 2002 points borrowed and in reservation status. As I understand it, these points are only good at non-DVC resorts and must be used before Dec 2002. These points are very limited and it makes the resale very unattractive. Any chance the "one time option" could be used to fix this mess?

disneykidds, if I'm reading your question correctly, once you borrow points from the following use year, you can not bank them back into that year.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. :)

You're right - that is how I understand it as well. However, I did not know this "one time exception" thing was out there and I wonder what exactly it can be used for - and if it could possibly be applied to the situation I described. Thanks.

I would highly doubt that you could use the exception for this situation. Not only would you have to deal with the "unborrowing" but you also have to deal with the conversion from "reservation points" back to "vacation points." I recently made a reservation using points for the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and MS made it very clear to me (multiple times) that these points were now "reservation points" and that if I cancelled my AKL reservation, those points were unavailable for DVC resorts.

Hi bonzie1, just down the road in Ham. Sq. If you had time for a day's drive, you could get a whole week at HH with those points this time of year.
