ACK! We bought 4 years ago, and I was so proud that we did not have to borrow. In 2004, we decided to take a break and not go in 2005, so I rented my entire use year, to pay cash for the Disney Cruise in 2004. Then, so evil DVC people announced the Member Cruise 2005. I could not pass it up, after hearing about the 1st member cruise. So, I borrowed 2006 points for the crusie, and said "no trip in 2006"
Funny how we just can't stay away. I get 470 points a year, so why not use half of 2007 points, go in 2006, and in 2007 we will be caught up. Well, I got the idea to host a family reunion of sorts in August 2007. I am giving out OKW Studios to anyone in my family who wants to go. well, the list has grown to the point where I will have to use the rest of 2007 points, and borrow all of 2008 points for this trip. So, now I am thinking we can TRY not to go in 2008, but I know that won't happen, or just use half of 2009 points, and try to catch up in 2009.
Or is this a never-ending cycle? Once a borrower, always a borrower?

We are always in a state of borrowing too! We bank, used and borrowed points one year to treat DH's family and we haven't caught up since then. This year, we aren't going to DW, but we went to DL and San Diego on points - well so much for not using points when we don't go to FL. DH's philosophy is that our points end in 2041 instead of 2042 - by then, we'll be too old to care! Or is it 2039 instead of 2040 - I'm already too old to remember!

I just finished my first trip and treated DM & DsF to a 2 bdrm ( DW & me took the main king ) I had last years points from buying in and then had to borrow already for our Dec trip.
I plan on some small 3 / 4 day trips in between that I will either rent points or get an AP discount and just stay at POP .
DsF was asking a lot of ? about the points and so forth if I could talk them into buying I would be set.I don't know what I will do in just the Studio after staying in such a big place.

We are in the same boat---are using banked, current, and borrowed points for a family trip this month. I'm trying to project out for future trips and it looks like maybe an add-on is coming up for us! Oh well :goodvibes Honi

I also am in a constant state of borrowing into the next year. I can honestly say that I never anticipate the day when I would lose points by simply not using them. I have talked with DVC members on the 2005 members cruise who regularly lose some of their points each year. ouch! :confused3

We live on borrowed points too, only time that we live dangerously!! We are currently thinking about adding on so we can have :rotfl2: more points to 'borrow'.

This is the first time we have borrowed and it was only 10 points. I hope to keep it low so that I don't start the vicious cycle.
So I am just going to keep telling myself that I am not allowed to borrow, and pretend that DVC won't let me :)

We just started by booking a last minute trip to visit Disneyland at the end of this month.
Not how we normally handle our points, so I'm thinking that we'll make it up.

We banked and borrowed for a family trip also. So we've been behind for two years now. We have 5 days planned in October, and 5 days planned in January. Our trip in January coincides with the expiration of our annual pass. So we hope to catch up next year.

We're always in borrowed state but won't be going in 2007 and possibly not 2008 as we have other holidays planned, so we should catch up!

We were doing just fine this year. We have borrowed in the past, but we had things back on tract, until our DS and DDIL called and asked us to meet them at WDW for a few days this past June because our DS was being deployed to Iraq the end of July. They also have our DGD(4) and DGS (3 months). How could we say no? We live in Illinois and they live in North Carolina, so we don't get to see them that often. My DH and I decided the points were to use, so we just borrowed into 2007 and said there will come a time that we can't go every year, so we will catch up then. I say life is too short to store points, so we should use them when we get the chance.
Enjoy!

DH and I did the exact thing- splurged on a 2BR to treat my parents. But then despite our best efforts at cutting down trips to get caught back up we never quite managed it. :rolleyes1
Unfortunately, there was only one cure for our borrowing habit- an add-on! We're currently on the waitlist for 55 BWV points. :rotfl:

I agree Btrim!! :thumbsup2
There will come a day when we cannot go for one reason or another. We've done several add-ons and still manage to use all our points and we normally add days to our vacations and borrow points for that.
Its great to be on vacation, pick up the phone, call MS and book another day! Even if we have to borrow to do it.

We only became members in 04 and didn't go til 05. We went 4 times in a 1 yr period. We did borrow 20 pts from 06 though. I hope I'm not going to borrow every year. We're thinking of not going til next year. Then we'll have this years 250 + next years 270. 520 points can make a great year.

We are in a constant borrow state. We have borrowed each year to take family. I don't see us skipping a year any time soon either. ;)
We've been members for 9 years, and I don't think there has EVER been a time when we were not "borrowing" from the future year.
...I try to justify it by thinking that it's because of my late/October use-year - but it doesn't really matter.
For instance. We have 500 points. I have just a few points left in my October 2006 use-year..... and I CAN'T STAND IT!!!
I plan on calling MS tomorrow to try and book a studio for this Saturday night.
...You all think it's great to live so close to WDW... but it really does a NUMBER on your points!!!! :)

I just bought a BWV and I have already borrowed the 2007 points. If I need more I will buy and have some transferred in. I am still ahead. Right?

...I have talked with DVC members on the 2005 members cruise who regularly lose some of their points each year...When you consider the above alternative, the pervasive aversion to borrowing witnessed here is rather perplexing.
In fact, more than a few members have done analysis that shows a perpetual state of borrowing to be extremely advantageous.
Oh, and be sure to avoid the purple perpetrator. (That last sentence doesn't mean anything. I'm just having fun making "perp" sounds.)

A year or two ago someone on here posted that they borrowed all the time because in 40 years who cares? I realized they were right. Enjoy it while you feel well and can. So you "will" your kids one less year, so what? Who do you think we take with us anyway? :goodvibes

I will avoid the purple perpetrator by purposely perplexing perpetual point borrowers! ;)
Back on topic, I do not know why I think it is a "bad" thing to be in a state of constant borrow. I just don't like it. Probably because if I could avoid borrowing, and actually BANK, we could have quite a vacation with 200% of our points. :teeth:

Just wondeing, how many years ahead can we borrow from? For the first time since we joined in 1992, we have borrowed. We only have 120 left in our 2007 use year! If I use up the 2007 points will I be able to borrow from 2008?

I came to this conclusion a couple of months ago to always have points borrowed. We are limited as to our travel times, so we don't really have the option of taking two or three days in the off season to use 20 or 30 points.
Rather than have a dozen or so left over, I'll book the extra day and borrow another ten or 20 points. Seems to work for us.
