Yes, Andrew already is asking when are we going again!
We are doing a 2 week west/ Yellowstone trip next summer, but plan to do 2 cruises in 2008.
We will do the 4 day bahamas again(nieces and nephews graduation) then DH and I will do the 11 day southern in sept of 08. going with another "leaving the kids in college" couple.
So nice to meet all of you! are kids sure had a blast! All of our pictures have turned out really well so far. still waiting for the underwater and 2 rolls of 35 mm to come back. Surprisingly, Andrew isn't in too many :confused3
I put a link on my trip report. they are grainy on webshots, don't understand why...they printed out like postcards, and others I uploaded were good....just understand it all yet.
Hope you all get on the next twice the magic as dcl likes to call it!!

Lee Anne,
I guess this is where I'll come to relive the cruise and try to get over the depression of being off the Magic.
We didn't get to meet everyone, but those we did were fantastic. it was wonderful sharing the cruise with so many great people.
Glad Brandon found a few friends; he was starting to feel that all the kids on the ship were girls.
I keep track of the time now in relationship to what we would have been doing last week on the cruise---right now-Pirates deck party. If only my bed were turned down, and room service would feed everyone it wouldn't be too bad being home.
If you have any pictures of Joe with brandon please email them to me-blabak2@comcast.net.
thanks--take care everyone.

Christy I did check out your picks and they look great. I thought we took so many pics but only have about 140 plus Tori's 20 or so of all the group.
Beth I do have two good ones for you I'll have Joe(big Joe that is ) e-mail them to you.
I got so used to being on here like an addict before trip :surfweb: I dont know what to do with my spare time now, :confused3 well I guess I could do that laundry or cleaning thats waiting,Nah thats no fun. :rotfl:
Today was Joe's 10th b-day and we went to minor league local stadium with 20 friends in box. They had Joe stand on the dugout and the whole stadium sang to him including the mascot Quackerjack the duck. He had a blast. His party with his friends is Fri. to see what else? POC 2. Cant wait. pirate:

Hey everybody! We made it home late last night. I can't believe that the week is over. It went so fast. We had such a great time! I think this time was even more special because we met and hung out with great people! Thank you all for making this cruise so much fun for my family and I. My kids really miss the friends that they met onboard. I'm sure that they will be emailing soon! If anybody has plans to come to Vegas, let us know!
Bye for now.
You know as soon as I got home I went and read our old thread to see if anyone was posting :surfweb: . Glad to see 1happyfam started a reunion thread. I to am going through major cruise withdrawals :worried: . I don't know about anyone else but I still feel like I am on the boat. Last time it took a couple of weeks to get rid of that swaying feeling (or it could have been all the drinks :drinking1 I had on the boat and I am still going through detox). As you can see I am slowly getting through my trip report. I have been trying to do a day at a time (it is a lot more fun than doing work). I got my water camera pictures back last night so I was able to add the string ray pics to the report. I uploaded all of my digital pics last night and should be getting the prints next week. We also rebooked while on the cruise and are looking for something in 2008. Wouldn't it be a blast to do this all again. Thanks for making this such a memorable trip. We met some amazing families, Anthony keeps saying he had a great time.
Susan
You know I am really missing Brianna and those Bahama Mama drinks :beach: . How come it feels like the vacation went way too fast  .

We just got home last night too! We miss the Magic soooo much! At least we rebooked onboard, so we have something to look forward to! We are booked for 12-1-07, but will be changing it to June or July of 08 when the dates come out. I would love another double dip! It was great to meet so many of you and DD loved knowing other kids before she got on the ship!

Here I am wandering around the boards when I have plenty to do, but can't get over the after vacation let down. Since I have been like an addict to these boards, I don't what to to do without a vacation in the works.
Did everyone see the pictures Lorie's husband took? I want to get them all--AMAZING. he should replace the photographers from Shutters.
I may have to quit the boards cold turkey---who am I kidding I could never do it. Even when the cruise was 2 years away i was checking in.
I guess I'll just live through everyone else's vacations.
Hope everyone is having a good first week back.

LeeAnne- Thanks for starting this thread. I keep coming to the disboards out of habit and really miss the cruise. This a great way to keep from suffering withdrawl. :thumbsup2
I did not get to meet everyone. I wish I had. I can only put some names with faces. I really wanted to meet Jeff form West Virginia, but it was not to be. :confused3
We are planning to go on the Disney cruise spring break 2008. That will be with my husband and friends. My college roomie says she wants to go again. We may plan one for every 5 years. That sounds like a long time out, but time flies by.:cool1:
Next time, I want to take the free seminars at the spa. One was on makeup and the other was nails, hair, etc. We missed the first one because we were sick and we wouldn't give up Palo brunch for the 2nd one.:goodvibes
I took over 200 pictures with my new digital camera, but it sounds like some others really beat my total. I thought I really took a lot. Teri

Teri-Glad you found us. :) Also wish I had met everyone.I did see alot of folks wearing the green that morning at port but felt silly to go up and ask "are you a Dis-er?" :rotfl:
I met Jeff by accident we were on the same small van going to the ruins in Costa Maya, cant remember how it came up but we figured out we were both on the boards. I only just realized from reading these boards I also met Jillpie's husband and son on that tour-B/c I hadnt met Jillpie either-I only know them as Red Sox fans since my son was wearing a Yankees shirt and the conversation started.
There were so many things we didnt do, guess we'll just have to go again :rolleyes1 :cool1:

I know what you mean....the only thing that keeps me from getting blue is planning the next one!!
June 08 4 day bahama for niece graduation...
then an 11 day southern in either sept 08 with Disney :cheer2: or......march with Royal Caribbean :guilty: ...I seem to be the only one that doesn't worry about hurricanes, but DH is standing firm on not going in sept.
Why can't Disney send just 1 in april to the Southern Caribbean....
Hey everyone. I was just dealing with work and thought I would check the boards :surfweb: . I see that we have moved to page 2 so I had to fix that. I agree with BethA on the Post Disney Blues (PDB). We booked our cruise 2 years ago and I slowly worked on getting ready for it and now that it is gone I feel that I have nothing to do. We also rebooked before we left but I am afraid that if we don't have the same group going it won't be as much fun. When people ask me what was the best part about the cruise I always say hanging out with the crew from the DisBoards. This was the first time our kids weren't hanging on us and we had some adult time :cloud9: . Now if they would just do that at home.

I'm a DCL snob!!! and I am spoiled cause it's the only place we want to go, all 3 of us!!!
I have been adamant about not cruising again, after cruise 1, after cruise 2 after cruise 3 and before cruise 4.
Hmmmmmm, I can not seem to break my habit!! Thinking about an Eastern in mid June 2008. We'll have to see!!!!
To be honest, even though the cruise seems expensive, when I tried to find a vacation that was similiar-other lines, all-inclusive resorts, all the basic quotes were the same as a DCL 7 night. Plus, some would be more with added airfare. Even just going some place really cool gets expensive when you add in activities and food and more food.

Page 2  Oh NO NO. Ok so for all you experienced travelers- we are booked for March 31,2006 Eastern but would love to do the douple dip again in 2008. What would you all reccomend ? :confused3
Has anyone done both to give me a comparison? And dont say do both cruises I dont think we could swing that. Or could we???HMMM :rotfl: Anyone else interested in either of those cruises? I agree w/ Susan meeting the Disers was a great part. If we did the douple dip again I'd choose the same week again it was nice way to start off summer and am petrified of hurricanes later in the season.

Hey everyone- Did anyone get a postcard about a survey concerning our cruise? I did. I just finished it. It was a little more detailed than the one we fill out onboard. You were able to explain yourself a little more in this one.
Personally, I loved going to Castaway Cay twice, but I did not like the Mexican ports. I have always gone on the Eastern to St. Maarten and St. Thomas. I liked those ports 100 times better than Costa Maya and Cozumel. I would go to Castaway Cay only once, instead of twice, as long as we went to the Eastern port instead of the Western ones. I also like the extra day at sea on the Eastern. :cool1:Teri

LeeAnne - I would love to get a copy of the picture. I will send you a pm with my email. Tessa would also like to email Maria. Talk to you soon!
We didn't get a post card either. You would think with all the times we have been to Disney and the cruise they would want to find out our opinion.
1happyfam - I will send you my email and would love to get the pictures. Here is some pixiedust: for your tests tomorrow, I hope everything turns out OK.
Carole88 - Tell Tesse that Katherine has not forgotten her, she is just really busy with camp. I took their braids out tonight, I guess the vacation is officially over and done. I still have mine in and I am going to keep them until the depression is gone (I might still have them in on the 2008 trip :rotfl: )

I am still in denial that the cruise is over!!!!
Our wiater, Romeo, told us he had worked on a cruise that went around the world. Most guests were on for about 130 days!! Who wants to go around the world on the Magic with me? I'll have to study up on how to take over a ship--Does that involve seeing the POC movie repeatedly?

I didn't get one either......
We liked the Eastern ports much better than CM and Coz. Although I think we got cheated with the amount of time in Coz. And the tendering while not horrible, was not exactly hopping off the ship and walking down the pier. We always like to get cleaned up after our activity and then go shopping. We had no desire to go back to the ship, eat, get cleaned up and then go back on the tenders. We simply didn't have enough time.
Perhaps Coz would be better to visit when the piers are fixed and we don't have to leave early...maybe.
We are definitely looking into an Eastern 2008 in mid to late June. We could do a DD reunion!!!! It might not be a dd, but it would be fun knowing lots of people ahead of time even better!!!

We usually do a small trip at the end of July/early August using our DVC points, but none this year with college starting Aug18th--then i'll be double depressed!!
Also knowing the Magic will be in Europe next year makes next year's vacation up in the air. We do have cabins booked on a European sailing, but I think without winning the lottery we will stat here and cruise---gasp--RCL.

For the first time I got DCL mail today--no survey, but did get the shoreside survival kit.
Hey everyone,
I have my sisters and their families in town this week and it is a crowded here. I have been telling them about the cruise and the great friends we met.
Lee Anne - Glad to hear that everything turned out OK. Glad to see the pixiedust: is working.
BethA and 1happyfam - I would be up for an Eastern 2008 cruise. We would need to do a mid to late June as well due to schools. We usually get out around the 15th but have gone till the 20th if we have a bad winter.
It would be wonderful to get everyone back together for a reunion cruise. I just put my DVD in from the cruise and we were watching the Pirates Night party. It was neat to see it again and watch Mickey swing down off the stacks. Also the fireworks were fun to see again.
Susan
Hi all! I just found this thread. I am still having post cruise blues. We had a great time, though I'm not sure I would do another 10 day trip w/ a 2 yo.
I'm glad to see all the interest in a '08 Eastern. DH and I have been talking about that since we got back :thumbsup2 . He was not a big fan of Mexico. I would really like to steal away for a quick 4 day cruise in Jan or Feb., not to mention I want that Castaway Club tote bag....it matches my DCL bag :teeth:
Lorie - I finally read all of your trip report. I felt better reading the part about the meet before CM. I went up to the buffet that morning looking for the dissers and couldn't find anyone. By the time DH and DS got around and we got off the ship it was raining so we got right back on & waited the rain out on Deck 9 and got some lunch. I let DS swim in the Mickey Pool, and of course he didn't want to get out :bounce: Once we got him out of the pool we went to the port area around noon the weather was still not looking so hot. After wandering the port and getting hounded to shop DH was ready to go back to the ship so we missed Maj. The cruise director announced a character dance party so we took DS to that and he had a blast.

Come on, who else......... :cheer2:
Charla, I felt soooooooo bad about the whole beach thing at CM. I think only 2 disers got all the way to the end beach out of the 10 that said they would probably meet there. Although I know Tinky624 made it down and came back, which was their plan.
The idea was a good, fun one, but really tricky since "little" things kept popping up that changed the plans slightly. I wasn't prepared for just how "pushy" (for lack of a better word), the locals were when it came to where we should plant ourselves on the beach. Then they would get very offended and then I felt bad.
Oh well, lesson learned!!!!
Now if I go on the Eastern, I can do that without even blinking my eyes, because I already know exactly what I want to do!!!
Charla, I felt soooooooo bad about the whole beach thing at CM. I think only 2 disers got all the way to the end beach out of the 10 that said they would probably meet there.
Don't feel bad :goodvibes I (we) saved a lot of $$$ due to the last minute things that cropped up. I had brought several hundred for CM for waverunners and massages and we ended up spending less than $20. Same thing for Cozumel, except we spent under $70 there. I ended up taking our cash down to guest services and putting it on our shipboard acct as I didn't want to carry that much home.
Spill it....what would you do on the Eastern?
musicgirl
07-24-2006, 05:09 PM
St. Thomas is easy, we would do the Capt. Nautica speed boat ride to snorkel. It was awesome, we all loved swimming with a ton of turtles.
St. Martin, we would probably just go to Great Bay Beach this time depending on if there would be another ship in port. When we went last time in June, the Magic was it and there was no one at the beach!!! This beach is right at the port. You can rent wave runners, there is a trampoline, I'm sure by now they've added an ice berg.
Last time the plan was to go to Dawn Beach to snorkel, come back to eat and clean up a bit, back into town to shop and then stay at Great Bay Beach. Toooooo much!!!
We did go to Dawn Beach, it was absolutely beautiful. The snorkeling was ok, but not enough to make me go back to that beach. We did everything but swim at GBB. We were soooo tired.
We did have fun shopping, we took the water taxi straight into GBB, which is also where you shop. We shopped to the right of that entrance. We had to find the Guavaberry store and have a guavaberry colada. Awesome. I really regret not buying a bottle. This is the only place to buy the liqour.
We didn't have to back track to get back to the water taxi, since there is another pick up at that end of the shopping.
Oh, I'd also do the rainforest this time. With the extra day at sea, I will enjoy it!
musicgirl
07-24-2006, 05:14 PM
Almost forgot, I would also shop at GGB as well. I didn't want anyone thinking I left that out! Maybe that one is just unwritten!!!
At St. Thomas there is also a shopping area right at the port. We would go in again. If we have enough time, I think I would like to try the tram up to Paradise Point when we get back from the snorkeling.
Other than that, just the regular stuff like Andrew at the teen beach and Teen Wild side and Bill and I spending the entire day at Serenity Bay. If I win the lotto, maybe we'll do the waverunners at CC.

What do you all think if the re-surfacing "new ship" rumors?
musicgirl
07-30-2006, 12:12 PM
New ship rumors have been heard since the Magic was finished. :rotfl:
I would think that DCL would have announced if a new ship was being currently built. This would keep many paying attention. I know they have plans, but hey, I have plans to win the lottery and go on a cruise every year, but that's not gonna happen!
All I want is to hear the schedule for summer 2008. I know that they probably have to hold off on rates, but at least they could do is put the schedule out there. With the Magic gone next summer, I certainly hope they wouldn't leave all the summer cruisers in a lurch by taking the Magic somewhere else again. I would probably have to plan another vacation if they didn't have a 7 night out of Port Canaveral.
To me, the 3/4 nights are not worth it $$ wise. It just seems that the rates were out of proportion compared to what we just paid for a 7 night. Plus you add in the cost of a flight. I guess I'm spoiled!!!
BethA
07-30-2006, 12:54 PM
Are there new rumors out there?
I read that a new ship would probably be for CA or Europe, depending on how next summer goes.
I hope for 2008 they switch up some of the ports a little for variety. DCL has such a high % of repeat cruisers, they need to change things around more often. We were lucky this time to not have all repeat entertainers on our cruise.
Are there new rumors out there?
I don't think they are new rumors, just the same old ones resurfacing.
Hi,
I just got off the Magic today from a 7 night cruise to Costa Maya and our favorite Spa employee told us that Disney is going to build 2 new ships within 2 years. He said the names should be Disney Wish and Disney Dream. He also said the ships are supposed to be Super Sized being around the size of the Freedom of the Seas.
Our server in Palo told us that Disney was planning on adding a "new baby" to the fleet and the reason that they are doing the Southern Caribbean and European cruises was they were looking to see how those route were. He was on the opening teams for both the Wonder and the Magic and has asked to be on the opening team of the new ship. According to him, the new ship will be named Disney Dream.
Now, don't know if this is true or not. We never even asked him about a new ship he just told us after he was showing us his pin for having been with DCL since it started. He is one of only a handful of the original crew members that are still with DCL.
I won't be holding my breath for a new ship by '08, but I would love to see a DCL ship with a home port in California.
All I want is to hear the schedule for summer 2008.
Me too! I'm a bit of an obsessive planner.
To me, the 3/4 nights are not worth it $$ wise. It just seems that the rates were out of proportion compared to what we just paid for a 7 night. Plus you add in the cost of a flight. I guess I'm spoiled!!!
The 7 night was a little long for us w/ a toddler. We were gone for a total of 10 days. With an older child I think the 7 would be perfect. I pulled some trip prices of the DCL site and here is what I found. I've done this a few times before, see earlier response about my planning issues ;)
7 Night Eastern
Cat 10 – April 28, 2007 2 Adults, 1 kid (age 3) $3567.60 (no transfers, no ins.) 509.65 per night
4 Night Bahamian
Cat 10 – April 29, 2007 2 Adults, 1 kid (age 3) $1973.85 (no transfers, no ins.) 493.46 per night
3 Night Bahamian
Cat 10 – April 26, 2007 2 Adults, 1 kid (age 3) $1603.85 (no transfers, no ins.) 534.61 per night
Of all the dates I've checked previously, the 4 night has always come up slightly cheaper per night. I wouldn't mind to do a 4 night combined with a few nights at WDW. I used up 1/2 of my VC for the year for out cruise, and DH had to get special permission to be gone more than a week (only the 2nd time in 7 years...the first was for our Disneymoon). When we win the lottery we will be cruisin every year with ya :rotfl2:
This thread could be bad for me....I just found a Valentines 4 night for $448.46/night

We are hoping to try a 4 night--I have always wanted to see the Christmas decorations and hope that some of the CMs we met in June might be on the 4 night on the Magic in Dec. I hope we can swing it financially.
My issue with the 4 night is the airfare for such a short time, but you only live once and soon my college age son might not want to vacation with us, so I want to go now if we can.
Good to see the breakdown, so I can justify it. We are using points to stay at the Beach Club the night before the cruise instead of at the Radisson as we usually do. We will ME to get there and then probably a towncar, since I hope to have less luggage. I know it will seem short, but I am looking forward to it.
Beth, which 4 night in Dec?
On the DCL site the 12/10 cruise has the Cat 12 listed for $200 more than the Cat 10 :confused3

Beth, I'm with you about the age of your son. June 2008 Andrew will almost be 18. He wants to go, but it may be one of the last times since we really will need to pay for some college.
When Jill and I were tossing the idea around, she mentioned a young friend with small kids and how she had always wanted to take them to WDW. I think Jill said it was cancer, whatever it was it is terminal and she doesn't have much time. It really made me think because we really don't know how much longer we'll get to do things like this. Live for now, not for old age, who knows if I'll make it there, I know I'll make it now!!!
Charla, thanks for the breakdown. That was really interesting about the 3 day being the least cost effective.
I have noticed lately a lower cat being a higher rate than something above it. I know on ours, cat. 12 was actually higher than cat. 11. Go figure!!!
I feel the same way in regards to the short trips and flights. Although the 4 nights are about the same per night as a 7, I hate to pay $750 for flights for a 4 night. I know that may sound weird and I know I could make the trip longer in other ways, but I am addicted to 7 nights!!!!
Hopefully Charla when you go again (you know, in 6-2008), your little guy will be able to handle all the excitement. It does get easier! By that time, he'll be potty trained!!!! But then again, there could also be another one....... ;)

You are welcome for the breakdown. FWIW in all the trips I've looked at the 3 night has always been the highest cost per night.
DS wasn't the one completely worn out, it was DH and I trying to keep up with him! Don't get me wrong, he was tired, but not worn out. He still naps 2x/day which helps. We also did not push him to do everything. Watch that last sentence...there very well could be an extra kiddo in our party :thumbsup2

On Dec 26 the Magic is doing a 4 night. I noticed this when they gave out the papers about rebooking on the cruise. First they said there were no more spots for kids, but she called me back to say something opened up. I booked it to get the discount and the onboard credit and now am hoping we can go.
I'm waiting for SW to release pices.

I just said that cause you're young and who knows how many of those little people will turn up at your house!!! :)
Now, if someone was saying that to me....AHHHHHH!!!!!! I'm knocking on every piece of wood that I can find right now!! We had a gal at school, her oldest was 21 and her youngest just going into the high school.....you guessed it, a little blessing from heaven. She was 42!!!! It was a teacher and her husband is the principal, no embarrassment for their 2 kids who are still in school with them!!!
Yes, 2 year olds have alot of energy! Andrew was on the go from around 4-5 months he was crawling like a maniac and then at 6 months he climbed onto the couch. Yeah, those were the days......
I'm much more rested these days with my almost 16 year old. I'm not sure, but I think this is the calm before the storm....he's learning to drive. :drive:

I really wish they could at least give us some idea about the dates. I don't even care if they don't have the rates ready, just give us the details!!!
We're hoping for an Eastern June 21, 2008.
I think it's weird that they hold back the dates. We are good for anything after the 16th. Our anniv. is the 9th and DS's birthday is the 16th :)
ETA: I just saw a post on the main board about the new castaway club bag... I'm a little bummed about that. I bought the bag similar to that one in Treasure Ketch and have been looking for that one on ebay...now that they are NLA I'm afraid my chances of getting one just got slim :(

Well, it they just keep a regular schedule of W alternating with E from the end of Dec. 2007, the June 21, 2008 should be an Eastern. :thumbsup2
That's what Jill and I are hoping for, maybe Marie too.
Now that is of course without any "special" cruises thrown in to mess up my schedule! I'm keeping my fingers crossed and knockin on wood. Do those cancel each other out?????
ETA: Nevermind, according to a post on the main board we may not have to wait much longer for summer '08 sched. to be announced. :cool1:

We're home--wishing we were on another Disney cruise.
Hope everyone is doing well. We're finally adjusting to Blake being in college--or adjusting the best we can, I should say.
I thought the dates would be out soon, although we did get an email from our TA indicating they expect them soon, so to put in any requests you might have.
Maybe we can have a reunion onboard in 2008.

I'm hanging around. I check the boards everyday hoping for the 2008 dates. It's getting harder to read about everyone's questions with their plans knowing I don't have one planned.
I was just looking through my pictures.....sigh...to be sitting in the water with the sun shining at Serenity Bay.
I know Jillpie and Doingitagain (Marie) is watching for the dates too.
Maybe when the dates come out we can pm a bunch of the disers from our cruise. We're still hoping for June 21.
I am still (im)patiently waiting for the dates too. I am ready to go again!
The Med is now definately out of the question for us :cool1: so I decided to add a ticker for our (hopeful) DDR. 19 months actually does not seem that far away!

Well, one of the TAs reported the dates but not rates were out up until April of 2008 in new brochures. Nothing special Jan. thru April of 2008 for the Magic.
When I calculated from the last date that she gave as scheduled, June 21 is an Eastern which is what a few of us are going for. But that doesn't mean anything. I hope that it doesn't go somewhere special that summer.
DCL really needs to get the dates out. They are dragging their feet way too much at this time. At least give us an idea what to expect. They don't even need details, just where will they be that summer.
Just checking to see if anyone is still reading this thread. If so, hope everyone had a great Christmas and you enjoy the new year :)

Anyone still hoping for Eastern June 21 2008? I know the rumors have it that the Magic won't be in the Caribbean that summer, but maybe we'll get the NEW ship-LOL. Maybe all those rumors about a new ship were right and it is going to be in the caribbean and the Magic will be somewhere else.

musicgirl
01-01-2007, 07:32 PM
Beth, you could be right on that. I don't know if you read the one thread in which the Capt of the Magic stated to some disers that the Magic wouldn't be in the Caribbean in the summer of 2008. Then to top it off, the gal re-booking on board said it was true when the disers mentioned it to her. They never said DCL wouldn't be in the Caribbean doing 7 nights!
Hi Girls, and thanks Lorie!
Did you see the post(s) about Mexico?? Thoughts?
I'd much rather go on an Eastern than back to Mexico :(

I'm a bit concerned with the info on the port in LA. That's not looking very good for an Eastern. I will be very disappointed because we don't cruise during the school year, and the summer of 2009 Andrew will need to be working since he'll be on his way to college-well hopefully!
I've actually looked into cruising on another line....gasp!!!! I found a cruise out of Norfolk for 6 nights to Bermuda for $2500 for the 3 of us. It makes you start to think...... I could do a nice vacation this summer and next for the price of 1 cruise on DCL.
While there are summer 7 nights to the caribbean other than DCL, they were always around the same costs as DCL and I prefer DCL. But I really don't want to spend that kind of money on another line.
BethA
01-07-2007, 05:34 PM
Everyone I know that has gone to Bermuda loved it. I had hoped the one rumpr of DCL out of NY to Bermuda was true, but it looks like CA now. I don't know what we'll do. I'll have to look at air to the west coast.
I'm just shocked they would move the Magic 2 years in a row. They will lose some loyal customers who will try something else that is cheaper and not return to DCL.
I've actually looked into cruising on another line....gasp!!!!
:scared1: Just kidding.
Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas were the Mexico ports last time, I checked cruise critic and didn't find anything about them that just wowed me enough to warrant DCL prices.
We might consider the Wonder combined with WDW, or just wait till '09 :(
I'd be interested in a Christmas cruise but I think our families would riot

We did the west coast Mexico cruise in 2005 and we won't go back. It was nice to see Disneyland and some new places in Mexico, but it didn't leave us excited to go back. The first few days at sea were very cold ... in June ... I had to buy an extra sweater. People didn't use the pools. Should have guessed when the Castaway Club gift was a blanket.

I think they were about the same, but perhaps not as much sailing/snorkeling if that is what you are looking for. I know we did a trip into the rainforest and some horseback riding on a beach and some off-road driving (Oh Lorie and Jill, remember when I got back from the jeep trip this summer? :scared: Yikes.). If someone is really interested, I have some information (may be marked up!) I could dig out of my file and pdf it for you.

Marie-memories.......
I've been looking at a 9 night with Princess. It looks good! 2 sea days, Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Thomas, sea day, Bermuda and another sea day. $3500, with no air since we would drive to NY, but it is $180 to park at the pier! Yikes!!!!!
I checked out the Princess cruise meet board for the date, and I think they need some guidance!!! I can tell it won't be the same on that cruise meet board.
I just don't know how to say good bye to DCL, well at least until it would just be Bill and I, and that could be 10, 20 years!!!

Marie---I never realized it would be cold on the west coast--weren't people unhappy about that? I wonder if they can adjust the itinerary to change that. I would not want to cruise and be cold for a few days. Did they have more activities to make up for the cold.

Once we got to Mexico it was warm. It was the first two sea days that were cool. Really limited anything outdoors on the ship.
We are taking a 10 day med DCL cruise this summer, with a three day prestay in Barcelona and four days in the UK after. That is keeping me busy planning. I probably won't get the "DCL blues" until after that is over.
With Beth starting college this fall, we won't be planning any extended vacations for a while until we know schedules. I was lucky I was able to pull off being away from work three weeks this coming summer (well, at least I am for now).
We are DVC members, so perhaps Adventures by Disney. We have done quite a few DCL cruises, so we have missed out some of the land based US tourist stops. We want Hawaii and Alaska also (although I heard Hawaii is very expensive...my co-worker paid $7.99 for a gallon of milk!).
Lorie, did you decide on Princess?

Yes, we are booked. We are excited, the boards that I have are kind of quiet. I'm trying really hard! Five months out and they only have 14 pages and about 5-6 families on the cruise meet board.
I'm very disappointed, but we simply can't cruise at any other time of year, and the West coast itineraries don't float my boat...pun intended!:rotfl2:
Maybe DCL will have a change of heart for June 2009!
Anyone else planning something new?
No new plans as of yet...
Here are some of my thoughts though:
WDW maybe a Wonder cruise if we find a good deal
Grand Cayman
Hawaii
Maybe '09 DCL for us
Just wondering if anyone from our group booked for 6/08?

Just wondering if anyone from our group booked for 6/08?
We did not. I may have considered it for a Caribbean. We did the Mexican Riviera DCL cruise in 2005 and it has been our least favorite DCL itinerary.
We are heading to the Med this summer. It will be a very different cruise...a lot of port time and off the ship on excursions. Plus our daughter will be 18, so she won't be able to go with the teens...but she wants to play bingo and go to Palo! Our son will be 15, but he is not quite as social and I am not sure how much time he will spend in the Stack. But again, there are only 2 sea days and most port days we are off the ship early and not back until dinner. For the first time, we are trying second seating, since we knew we would either miss a lot of early dinners or have to rush getting ready.
musicgirl
02-03-2007, 12:12 PM
We didn't book. I have written a few emails to DCL. Not that I am expecting anything, but I thought that as a loyal DCL cruiser, that they should know that they really blew it when it comes to the summer of 2008. There are so many different scenarios they could have explored, but they didn't. I was really hoping for some alternations of 3,4,7 on the Wonder.
I never thought I could cruise with another line. But if I wait, that would MAYBE be the summer of 2009. Andrew would be be almost 19 so he wouldn't be allowed in the Stack, which he loves. Plus, he'll be working his butt off for college.
Oh well, I'm not waiting around for them. I'm actually very excited about our Princess cruise. Wow, not so hard waiting when I booked at around 150 days out as compared to 625 days out!!!
It's hard because I have to learn all the ropes. No drinks are included, what they call everything, where everything is on the ships etc. It's a whole new ballgame!
Charla-How are you feeling these days, you are at 20+ weeks, did you find out yet????? Our cruise is just about your due date!! We leave on 6-17. There were so many birthdays and anniversaries in our group, was there a special date in June for you?

Lorie,
Please post if you get a reply. I feel they could have offered some 7 nights on the Wonder, to keep their loyal customers happy who prefer to stay on the East coast.
We did book the June 22, 2008 cruise, but would have preferred the East coast.
So far no one else has posted being on there with us.

You'll have to start from the bottom with my original e-mail, in the middle is DCL's response, and then just below this was my second e-mail to them. So scroll way down to follow.
Unfortunately, I am not interested in the Nassau itinerary. We have been on
the Wonder twice, and while we enjoyed Nassau at that time, our family is
not interested in visiting again. To take a 3 or 4 day cruise, the per day
price is too expensive compared to a 7 night trip. We have been to WDW 3
times, so a land/sea does not make the cost of a shorter cruise worth it.
The airfare to Orlando is quite expensive for our family, this is part of
the reason the shorter cruises do not appeal to us.
My husband and I are both teachers and so therefore we can not take
advantage of the 7 night caribbean cruises during the school year. Cruising
at Christmas and Spring Break are way too expensive. In order to pay for a
DCL cruise, I carefully budget every month to pay off the cruise. We
booked our cruise for 6-24-2006 in Sept of 2004 so that we could take
advantage of early booking savings and pay monthly.
So as I mentioned, my family is very disappointed because for us, our Magic
cruise that sailed on 6-24-2006 ended up being the last time that our family
could cruise together with DCL. Because we love cruising so much, we have
opted to cruise on Princess because it offers an itinerary that fits our
family. Evidently we have outgrown DCL, but more accurately, DCL has
outgrown us.
/2/07
Thank you for your e-mail.
Each year we survey our Guests to learn what destinations are of
interest to them and we developed these special itineraries in response
to the overwhelmingly positive feedback about our 2005 west coast
sailings. We understand that the summer is a popular time for families
to vacation and we truly regret the disappointment you have expressed
with our 2008 itinerary.
While we may not be offering the cruise itinerary that you were
originally interested in for 2008, we hope you may consider a 3-night or
4-night cruise vacation to Nassau and our private island, Disney's
Castaway Cay. We also offer 7-Night Land & Sea vacation packages that
combines the best of Walt Disney World with the magic of a cruise
vacation.
Again, thank you again for your email.
Sincerely,

This is really not a question since I don't have a cruise booked and
won't be booking in the near future or possibly ever again.
DCL let a lot of loyal cruisers down when they decided to take the Magic
out of the Caribbean two summers in a row. I know many have asked for
new itineraries, but why take away the 7 night cruises in the Caribbean
2 summers in a row. Or why not have the Wonder alternate 3, 4 and 7
nights cruises during that time.
I have cruised 4 times, all of them with DCL. We only cruise in the
summers. The Mediterrainean and Mexican cruises are of no interest to
my family. We enjoy the 7 night Caribbean sailings whether Eastern or
Western. Cruising for 3 or 4 nights is not worth the travel expense
(airlines). Yes, we could do back to back cruises on the Wonder, but
we've done 2 wonder cruises and have no desire to return to Nassau.
We met a large number of people on board on our 6-24-06 cruise and we
were all going to try to book for the summer of 2008. They also do not
cruise at any other time of year due to job/school restrictions.
DCL is more expensive but well worth the money. I would rather save and
budget carefully for a cruise every other summer than vacation somewhere
else.
My family is not going to just wait around for the summer of 2009 hoping
that DCL might have have 7 nights in the Caribbean again. My son is 16
and he loves DCL. But we only have a few more years as a family before
he is off to college. We don't have time to wait for you.
We have opted to cruise with Princess (for a longer trip , for less
money) this summer. I know many others who are doing the same. I just
hope that they as well as myself don't find a better option in cruising,
because you might have lost a lot of loyal cruisers like myself.

We opted for a 4 night double dip on 7/6/2008. We were so disappointed that there were no 7 night Carribean. DD wants to be able to go to the kids club 1 last time, then if Disney doesn't do 7 night cruises from Port Canaveral, we will switch to RCCL. DD was hoping that we would do a 7 night with some of the friends she met on the last cruise.

Isn't Marie going on the Med cruise? I hope she posts so we can hear about it. We gave up our suite on the Med to cruise on RC out of Port Canaveral. The Wonder will be there, since we leave on a Sunday and I'll wish we were cruising DCL, but did not want the rushed feeling of trying to see everything in Europe and no time to enjoy the Magic--plus air fare cost scared us.
Had we not gotten a suite for the Mexican cruise in 2008, we would have gone with RC again, maybe trying the larger ships.

Well how many are planning to go on the new ships.
Calling all Double Dippers!!!!!!! June 2010 or 2011!!! Let's start planning!
Seriously. I was just watching the NEW DCL travel channel special. If they are in the Caribbean or somewhere to tempting to miss (Hawaii????), I am there!!
No kid since he'll be in college!!! It'll be cheaper that way!
I'll let you know how the Princess cruise goes. We have a small but fun group. We just hit 500 pages and that has only been since Jan.
I am quite concerned about our room. I refer to it as the Aloha Closet!!! Aloha is the deck, and the room is a closet. They don't have a tub until you get to the mini-suite level. I don't think Bill is going to fit in the shower or myself for that matter!!!!!
It goes inside room, oceanview, balcony-which are all the same room except the balcony room obviously has a balcony. Then there are the mini-suites which I hate to say it look like the size of the DCL cat. 11 rooms!!!!!
Their owners suites compare NOTHING to the Walt and Roy suites!!!!!!!!!
The rest of it we are very excited about. We go to Grand Turk (we're doing a snorkel/stingray excursion), to San Juan (we're doing our own thing with a visit through old San Juan and going to a beach) to St. Thomas (we're doing the Capt. Nautica that we did when we did our DCL Eastern) and then to Bermuda (doing our own thing with going to horseshoe bay and then spending time at all the port activities)
It is a 9 night out of NY. $3500 for the 3 of us and a $150 credit. Not bad considering our June cruise was over $4200 for just the cruise.
I'll let you know. It won't be the same however without my diser friends!!!!
No magnetic boards...wood doors....no Pikey.....no konk koolers.......no lime green.....and the worst....NO SERENITY BAY WITH STEAKS ON THE GRILL!!!!!!!!
Charla-how's the baby coming along????? Boy or Girl???? Let's see in 2010 you'll have a 6 year old and a 3 year old and maybe even more....did I subtract correctly!!!!!
Those of you going on DCL or other cruise lines, please make sure you check in on this thread so we can vacation vicariously through you!!!

Yes, my family is doing the Med this summer. I have excursions booked. Since DD is now 18, I booked brunch, high tea and dinner at Palo so she can experience them all. We can always cancel on board if we don't want them all.
This will be a very different cruise...seven port days and two sea days. The port days have long excursions. We will be using DCL has a "floating hotel" as we see pieces of Europe. It will be busy, but our two are old enough (DD18 and DS15).
We have a three day prestay in Barcelona and a five day post stay in London/Cambridge. I am missing three weeks of work, wow, I have never done that before! It will be busy, but hopefully fun.
I am excited about Europe, but not about the cruise as much...because our good DISBOARD friends aren't there!

Marie, Please post after and let us know how the cruise was. I think going to Europe is such a great opportunity, but with a 10 yr old it wasn't for us this time. I bet the excursions will be amazing. It will be interesting to see what else they add in with the longer cruise, or if they leave some evenings just open, since many excursions are the whole day. Have a wonderful time!!
Lori, I watched the DCL show yesterday--wish they gave some info on the new ships other than just the size. It would be great if they'd say where they are going--don't they know we like to plan ahead.
The bathroom thing on other lines is scary. We don't have a tub either on RC and the showers look so small you probably can't even turn around. I'm wondering how my husband will squeeze in. Oh well--I wonder if you can go to the spa to shower--too much trouble for me, but maybe I'll send him. The thread for our RC cruise has little activity, so I'm not sure we'll even get to meet anyone. My parents are cruising with us again, and Blake has a friend going. My brother is still trying to decide--there are still a lot of open cabins--we are on the Mariner out of Port Canaveral--I'll be crying seeing the Wonder there.
Hope all our other cruise mates are doing well-stop in and say hi.

Marie-aren't you in DC???
Beth-well at least I'm not the only one with the tiny shower. Here's a picture I found on line. The guy is taking a picture of himself in the mirror.

Funny when I asked about the showers in the spa so that I could go down and take one, everyone thought I was a bit bizarre!!! How will I shave my legs in there!! How will Bill fit????
BethA
04-02-2007, 02:53 PM
I don't think you can shave your legs in there!! I was thinking I'd have to do it before I shower--you can't bend down or pick your lg up and rest it on anything. Maybe I should practice at home , but I don't know where I can find that confined of a space!!
That picture says it all!

I don't even think you can call that a shower. It is more like a water closet!!
funny, I was just reading a review and someone mentioned the shower. She said that there is no way to shave unless you are really good at yoga!!

Hey everybody! Nice to see that people are still checking in! No cruise for us this summer but we will be on the Magic in July 2008. West coast works out pretty good for us since we're in Nevada. No airfare this time around. We're going with two other families this time but we will definately miss all of our DIS friends.
I'd love to hear everybody's new cruising experiences. Can't wait to read everybody's posts.
It'll be cheaper that way!
.....
Charla-how's the baby coming along????? Boy or Girl???? Let's see in 2010 you'll have a 6 year old and a 3 year old and maybe even more....did I subtract correctly!!!!!
I am excited about the new ships. I'm hoping it opens up to new ports, I'm interested in Hawaii.
We are having another boy (this is it) everything has gone well until a few days ago, I have shingles :scared1:
You were right, we will have a 6yo and a 3yo about the time the new ships roll out. Old enough to let mommy and daddy do an excursion alone!
Still no VC plans for '08 for us. I wouldn't mind to do a Wonder DD but I'd also really like to take DS#1 to the World. We are contemplating a quick trip to DL after the baby gets here...that will depend on how well I recover though!
musicgirl

Congrats on the baby boy #2 Charla!!!!
How awful to have shingles. I hear it can be very painful. Since it is a form of chicken pox, will the new baby be immune????
The Wonder DD is tempting, but it is so expensive compared to a 7 night. I just can't bring myself to do it!!
Plus, I think Jill would have my head!!!
Meanwhile, I'm getting lots of Disney Visa rewards points and maybe I can use them toward a 2010 trip since the points will still be good!

I just have to post one more time and I think this is the best place to celebrate my
3000th post!!!!
Congrats MusicGirl on #3000:cool1: I meant to ask you, the pic of the guy in the 'water closet' is that supposed to be a shower on Princess  Thanks for the Congrats. New baby should have a higher immunity to chicken pox. This is more painful than recovery from my c-section:sad2:
Carole - hope you enjoy the West Coast cruise! As Lorie mentioned, you will have to fill us in!!
Marie - I would love to hear about your Med cruise and see pics as well. I have heard the Med is beautiful.

Don't worry, I am still hanging around (not as much as last time, though). The disboards have been very helpful in planning for the Med cruise this summer.
What did you think about the post about DCL not allowing adhesives for door decorations? Good thing I have my Musicgirl magnets!
We need to plan a 2008 reunion! A back to back on the Wonder? Just don't like the ports as well.

You are getting very close to your Med cruise  I am having a hard time believing that it has been almost a year since our DD :sad2: I'm getting vacationitis....but it is too close to my due date to go anywhere. Can't wait to hear about your Med experience.
About the decor thread....honestly I was a little surprised to read that people would glue things to the doors!
I don't know that we would do a Wonder B2B....Nassau just doesn't seem that appealing. I really have my heart set on an Eastern. Debating on a Wonder and saving the Eastern till the new baby is 3ish or bring a sitter.

Only about a month before we leave for Barcelona! We have to get through Beth's graduation first.:scared:
There are "fire sales" on med cruise category 12 guarantee (with subsequent upgrades to higher categories) if anyone wants to join us on the June 27 cruise! There is a separate thread on this. People are "downgrading", saving thousands of dollars, then getting upgraded!:confused3
When is graduation? We have pretty much made it thru graduation season here :)
I saw that thread Marie! I thought the Med sold well in the beginning...do you think a lot of people bailed once they discovered the total cost (flying) ?
If we were not having a baby in a few weeks, we would probably be joining you....I've received email offers for the Med cruises for as low as $54. per person/per night. The repo was offered at just under $43/night pp.

Graduation isn't until June 8.
There were probably some that bailed at the 90 day mark. But since most people booked flights long before that, it is probably more that DCL is just trying to fill up the ships.
The Euro is getting more expensive. I am glad we did our prestay with DCL...the hotel charges in Euros, but we have a fixed dollar price with DCL. We should only need Euros for miscellaneous excursion expenses, but the cruise and excursions are all locked in USD.
You know I just checked the Cruise Meet site because friends of ours are taking the Med cruise and I was feeling lonely and dreaming about our last cruise and it was a great surprise to see everyone still posting to this thread. How is everyone one doing? I still have all my pics from the cruise as my background and screen saver on my computer so I get to see everyone on a daily basis :grouphug: . It definitely makes me miss you guys.
Carole - I was wondering if you all were going to do the cruise next year with the ships being in California. Definitely the cost will be cheaper with not having to fly to the east coast. When in July are you going? I told my DH we should look into it but we have been talking about trying to do Hawaii next year with some friends. I will let you know if we change our mind. The DDs say to tell your DDs HI.
BethA - Have a great time on the Med cruise. I think cruising is the best way to see Europe. It allows you a chance to visit so many countries and places without having to lug around your suitcase. Enjoy and tell your parents to have a great time.
DoingitAgain - I was really bummed when I saw that Disney was going to California next year. They are in Europe this summer and California next summer, that's two summer's in a row not in Florida  . We rebooked on the last cruise but I don't know when we are going to go, we just keep moving the res out.
MusicGirl - I am with you on the reward points, I have been racking them up and now I just need to find a year when Disney will be back in Florida. We would love to see everyone again.
RCBA - I am actually looking into doing Hawaii in 2008 and I have been looking at some cruises. There is so much to see there that flying and island hopping is just out of the question so the best way to see it all would be with a cruise. My plan right now would be to fly out to Honolulu and stay there for a few days, then do the cruise, and then stay on another island for a few days. I just wish Disney would build those ships faster so we could do a Disney cruise there.

Sue,
good to hear from you. We gave up our suite on the Med--my parents didn't want to do it and so we are cruising on RC Mariner of the Seas in 3 weeks--I feel like such a traitor! My brother and his family and my parents are cruising with us, with 2 days at WDW before. We are signed up for the June 22, 2008 Magic and a 4 night on the Wonder over New Year's eve. I have been following the transatlantic and mising the Magic. Can't wait for someone to post here on their Med cruise.

We leave for Barcelona a month from today! Lots to do before we go. I still think it will be a very different type of cruise. We have only two "sea days" and the seven port days all have long excursions (the ports aren't close to much). We switched to second seating for dinner to give us time to get back to the ship.
(Lorie, I feel really guilty because I haven't been using smilies).
Marie
BethA - Sorry about the confusion  . Now the leg shaving issue makes more sense. Well, I hope you all have a great trip. Tell the DH and parents we say Hello :wave2: .
We went to DW for spring break (which was the week of Easter) this year and boy was it crowded. We expected it to be bad but I don't think anyone can prepare for the numbers of people at the parks (3 hour wait for Soarin' :scared1: ). We were able to do everything we wanted but I will never go Easter break again. It was just TOO crowded. The girls had a great time and the weather couldn't have been better. The DDs also got hit by the Dream Squad while we were there and received Dream Fastpasses for all the rides that have Fastpasses at MK. You would have thought they were princesses the way the pranced around the park the rest of the day.
Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend.

It sounds like a lot of great vacations coming up.
Charla-you are soooooo close!!! I hope everything goes well!!!
Marie-I know what you mean about the smilies!!! :grouphug:
I hope your big trip goes well and you have fun despite the fact that you are not surrounding by the double dippers!!!!
We'll be heading to NYC for our 9 night Princess cruise leaving 6-17. I'm already packed. Well at least all my stuff.
I don't think we'll be doing any DCL cruises for a while. Bill really doesn't want to go the Nassau route. Even doing a back to back. It is actually more expensive. Now perhaps if they could price a 3 and 4 night comparable to a 7 night, that might help!
My goal is to be on one of the new ships. :cloud9:

Hi Susan - We are going on the July 13, 2008 cruise. It will be cheaper since we can drive to the port but in the end it's costing us more money because we splurged for a category 2. We have talked some of our friends to come with us this time. They got hooked after we told them what a great time we all had. We would love it if your family also sailed the same time. My DDs had such a good time with your girls. They say hi too! We took them to Disneyland over Memorial Day weekend. Surprisingly the parks weren't too crazy. Wait till I tell them that you got dream passes. They'll be so jealous. Say hi to Anthony and the girls for us.

Marie, Have a great cruise. I'm still second guessing our decision to do RC, but sailing with my family won out over DCL.
Carole and Sue--we miss you and wish we could all get together. Maybe we'll be making a trip to MD, Blake is dating someone from your state Sue. I'm jealous about the fast passes--no dreams for us when we visited WDW in Feb-maybe we'll get some pixie dust the 2 days there before our Mariner cruise. I would be soooo excited by now if we were sailing DCL in 2 weeks, but I can never get that way over these other trips--I'm so spoiled. Hope evryone enjoys their summers.

Wow, a Category 2, that will be great. I am sure the girls are going to love the room. Right now I am working on a trip to Hawaii in 2008 in July but if the cost is way to high I would definitely think about changing it to a Disney Cruise on the West Coast. I will let you know if our plans change.

Congratulations! What a cutie! Hard to believe our first just graduated from high school!
Are you doing the 7 day or 4 day cruise on the 13th? We rebooked when we were on board last time and I have to keep moving the date until we pick a time to go so I thought, just in case it works out, to move it to your week. Are you doing late dinner again or early? The early is all filled up so we would have to do the late if we went. I will let you know if we decided to go.

We are doing the 7 day. We have early seating this time. I also got a surprise call from Dreams Unlimited today. They told me that a cat. 1 had become available and asked me if we wanted it. You bet. The girls are so excited. I just wish it was this year and not next.
WOW, a CAT 1 that is going to be awesome :cool1: . You will have to take a lot of pictures and post them so we can check it out. We are getting ready for our family vacation to Florida. The girls are still in school (I know it is unbelievable how late they run :sad2: ). It is only half days and ends tomorrow. All my sisters and their families meet in Florida for a family vacation. It is a lot of fun and the girls love to see their cousins. You will have to ask BethA what all the neat perks are for cat1, like do you get to captain the ship :) ?

SuJo--If Hawaii falls through you can join us on the June 22, 2008 Magic sailing. We are feeling very lonely---no one on our meet thread----
Carole--congrats on the Cat 1--which 1 is it? You'll love either--we have the Roy for our cruise. I'm not looking forward to the long flight to CA--we are spoiled only flying to Florida. Sean is flying to San Diego for work next month, with a stop in Vegas, but not long enough to really check it out at all.
We just got back from RC Mariner--very nice time, my parents and brother and his family went too--just not the same as DCL for me, but a lot of things for the older kids.
Lori--I'll have to look at your cruise report--haven't had time yet.
