Is there anyone else doing the 4-night starting Jan 28th of next year? I've searched the Cruise Meets board and can't find a thread. If there is already one, please let me know.

We are going on the 4 day Jan 28th! It is my 2 DD's (still figuring out the codes) ages 10 & 6 and my DH. This is our first Disney cruise and we can't wait! We are doing 3 days at the Poly beforehand.

I am sailing with my sister on Jan28. It will be her first and my 3rd Disney cruise. Doing one pre-night somewhere close to port. And then 1 post-night at WDW. Haven't decided on hotels yet. I hate to rush the year end holidays, but I can't wait til January! :Pinkbounc

Hooray! I'm not the only DISer on the cruise.

For those of you who are first timers, feel free to ask any questions. I love talking about cruises. This will be my 3rd Disney Cruise and my 4th cruise total. We sailed on Princess in May and we just had to come back to Disney.

It will be me and my DH. We're staying at the Boardwalk for a day before and then the Wilderness Lodge for a couple days after.

Hey everyone! My family and I are joining you and we are soooo excited! This will be our first cruise and I agree with PP that even though I hate wishing the summer away, January can't get here quick enough. It will be a great relief to escape the Wisconsin winter. We have 3 DD that are 11, 7, and 1 yr old. I can't wait to see thier faces when we see the boat for the first time. We are going to be in FL a day early although we are not sure where we are staying yet.

Six months from today we will be sailing away. Yipee! If you didn't pick up on it, stampinshauna is my wife. We really enjoy DCL and are looking forward to our third cruise. We have done the Eastern and Western itineraries, and are looking to test The Wonder.

My wife really enjoys talking about the crusie so don't hesitate to ask her questions. If you want a man's perspective, I'm happy to provide that.

Happy sailing!

Has anyone decided what excursions to do in Nassau?

09-15-2006, 01:56 PM
I read the Atlantis has some deals going now - not sure if they will be in January or not - is that a place worth going OR being first timers is it just worth it to stay on the boat and enjoy it while others get off and give us more room at the pools etc??? DH is not a big water person but the kids would love it - just not sure if I want to spend and extra $200 when they may just love doing the boat that day??
Thoughts???? :confused3

Well, some people say Nassau isn't that great and to stay on the ship. However, I'd like to get off and at least wander around a little. DH is interested in Atlantis, but I haven't seen any deals for January. We've never been to Nassau before as we've only sailed on the Magic which doesn't stop in Nassau. We like to get off in every port, it doesn't mean that we stay off the ship all day. It seems like we are usually off for half of the day and then come back for lunch & a swim. Then, depending on if we have any other excursions or shopping to do, we may get back off the ship. There have been a few ports where we just wander around on our own and hardly spend any money.

If you do decide to stay on the ship, you will have a great time. The 4-day cruise is going to seem very short to me because I've only done 7-days. There is so much to do and enjoy on the ship.

If anyone sees a January Atlantis special, please share!

Count us in, too! It will be our first DCL cruise, but we've done several other lines in the past. It will be myself, DH, and DD (2.5). We're staying a few days at DW after the cruise.

One question....does anyone from the "cruise meets" ever get together to share transportation, or is that a little too "up close and personal" :rotfl: ? With just 2 of us (DD is "free") there's not a whole lot of choice other than DCL, and its so expensive! Just wondering...

I sure some DISers get together & share transportation. I think it just depends on price and when & where people are staying. Are you staying anywhere before the cruise? I wouldn't be opposed to looking into something. We are currently booked for DCL transportation, but if there was something cheaper and faster, I'd definately consider changing.

Hey CK-

We have a pretty short flight (from New Orleans) and we're hoping to catch the 7:35am, so we'd get into MCO around 10:30am. We're staying at DW after the cruise. Can you book the DCL bus one way?

It might be hard to work out times and such, but I just thought I'd throw out the idea. A mini bus for 14-20 people is really cheap when you split it up!

I'm going to answer you since I accidentally didn't log Cataway Kev out and posted as him. I have never heard of booking the DCL bus one way. I guess you could call them and see what they say. If you can do one way, maybe we could figure something out. Otherwise, we'll just stick with the transfers that we have. They are kind of expensive, but it is fun to just sit back & relax & not worry about the luggage. They also play Disney stuff on TVs on the bus which is fun.

Being that you have done this before . . . I have been trying to find out what our dining rotation will be - I would like to do Palo on the night that we would be doubling up in one of the restaurants. Do you not know till you get your card at check in?? And if that is the case can you even still get into Palo easily enough?

You don't know your rotation until check in.

These are the possible rotations based on recent cruises:
TAAP 5:30 and 8:00
APPT 5:45 and 8:15
PTTA 6:00 and 8:30

So, the 3rd night you are repeating the dining room, but it is pirate night so you'd be missing that if you went to Palo. Some people try to guess their rotation based on age of kids, no kids, etc, but we've cruised twice with just the two of us and we've had 2 different rotations. You could check out the menus and see what you want to skip or you could just pick a night and see what happens. When we boarded our last cruise, we wanted to change our Palo night and we were able to as soon as we got on the ship. They save some reservations so that you can still book onboard. I've only sailed on the Magic where there are 7 nights available, so it may be a little tougher on the 4 night Wonder. I'd say just pick a night and then you could try to change once you find out your rotation when boarding. If you can't get what you want, they usually have a waiting list. You'll want to make sure you go to Animators Palette on the first night (if you get to go twice) because they only do the light show once. If you're really concerned about missing a meal, you could always plan Palo for a time either before or after your regular dinner time and you could go to both so you could be with your kids at dinner. Just plan about 2 hours for Palo and be hungry because they serve you a lot!!!

Not Shauna, but...

Our TA was able to request a certain dining rotation. Well, actually he requested a specific time (6pm) so from that we should be able to figure our rotation, I think. I know its just a request, but if we plan accordingly, I guess we can always ask to change if we don't get what we requested.

So maybe you can at least put in a request for a certain rotation. :confused3

Anyone following the new passport legislation? It looks like Congress voted to extend the passport requirements for sea until 2009, but it still has to be signed.

Does everyone have their passports already? We're going to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks. If we can save $300 (and maybe get the passcards when they come available) that would be a big help for us.

Just wondering if anyone knows any more about the situation. CLIA (http://www.cruising.org/passport_announcement.cfm) has some new info on its website in case anyone's interested.

HLAuburn--your daughter's picture in your signature is darling!

Regarding passports:
DH already had one and I just got mine. It came 4 weeks after I ordered it in August. I didn't want to wait until the last minute, but maybe I jumped the gun. Oh well, at least I have one and won't have to worry about it for 10 years. It is also easier to have it than to carry my birth certificate and drivers license.

DCL still has this info on their website, so I'd check with DCL before decided whether or not to get passports: "All Guests — including children — booked on cruises that sail on or after January 6, 2007 must carry valid passports. Start planning ahead now. Visit My Passport Page for the information you need to apply for a passport, including how much time is required to receive your passport and submit it to Disney Cruise Line®."

Thanks Shauna, we think she's pretty cute, too, but we're a little biased! ;)

I defnitely agree that having a passport is a good idea, required or not. I like the idea of this new "passcard" which is supposed to be smaller and less expensive. DH is being a pain about the whole trip though, so telling him that we can save $300 might make him a little less grumpy! How someone can be so unhappy about a Disney cruise/trip to DW, I will never know! Thank goodness he always gets more excited closer to the trip.

I saw that DCL (and Carnival and RCCL) still had the same info on their websites. I'm sure no one is going to say anything until its official. I was surprised to see CLIA had 2009 on their website. I even called the Passport Info Line to just ask if they knew info on the possible extension, and they just said "not yet".

I think we're going to wait and see what happens. If we need to get them, then we've factored it into the budget, and if not, then great, we save $300.

:yay: I'd like to loose some weight before the cruise too. :yay: We'll see if it actually happens. I'd better loose at least 5 pounds to make up for the 5 I'll gain on the cruise. Yum, I get hungry just thinking of the DCL food & desserts!!!

Is it just you and DH? Are you interested in going to Atlantis? If I can find a good day room rate, DH and I would like to go and I hear that you get 4 wristbands for the room and thought we could split the cost with another couple as we really won't use the room, just the pools, beach, and aquarium.

GirlieGirl

Thanks for the warm welcome!

It is just DH and I going. We are leaving the kids home and this is our early anniversary trip. It just so happens that the Superbowl is in Miami this year and we are hoping our Seahawks will make it back and we can do the cruise, WDW and the Superbowl all in one trip.

I am still researching what there is to do in Nassau. I know there is some shopping (yea!), but I don't really know very much about excursions or the Atlantis Resort. Have you done that before? Are there a lot of things to do in Nassau? Since we are new to this whole cruise thing, we are kind of going into this cold. We figure our first trip as a family to WDW we hadn't done any research and it truly was one of our best vacations, so we may wing it. If you have more info, I would love to "hear" about it!

(this is really stampinshauna talking, I just forgot to log DH (Castaway Kev) out of the DISboards before typing)

GirlieGirl,

We've never been to Nassau before, but it didn't look like the excursions were that great (either that or they were pricey). There are usually a lot of shops by the dock that you can just walk to, we usually do that at most ports. However, I've found that it is more fun (at least for us) if we have one thing planned for each port. DH looked up Atlantis on the internet and he is very interested in going. I've heard that sometimes they have specials and you can get a room for $120-200. If that is the case, you figure $50 per person and that isn't too bad. You get full use of their facilities, including pools, their private beach, their aquarium, etc. We're not positive that we will do that, it really depends on the price. I'll let you know what I find out as we get closer.

We just finished our seventh trip with Disney going on a 11 day special Southern Caribbean trip. The trip was fantastic as only Disney can make it. Of the many things we saw and did was our visit to Castaway Cay. The Flying Dutchman from the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean" was sitting in the water just off the aft of the Wonder. Capt. Jack Sparrow was available for pictures on the beach with the Flying Dutchman and Wonder in the background. The character actor who played Sparrow was perfect, a copy of Johnny Depp in his mannerisms and dress. Since our last visit to Castaway Cay, they have added some improvements, one being the Stingray Encounter. We are going on this cruise with our DD, SIL and their 5yr son. This will be his first cruise and it will be interesting to see how he responds to this new experience. We have been to Nassau and did not do any of the excursions, but have taken a taxi and a small boat at different times over to Atlantis. It is interesting to walk through and see the facility and view the fish which is free. To use their water amenities will cost a fee. The downtown area is a short distance from the ship where shopping and some sightseeing can be done.

stampinshauna
10-09-2006, 11:39 AM
Welcome dalemm! Thanks for the info about Atlantis, I didn't know that you could walk through the fish area for free. Do you remember how much it cost you to get over to Atlantis?

dalemm
10-09-2006, 05:59 PM
Stampinshauna - The last time we were in Nassau was 2000 on the Wonder. You could walk through the Atlantis casino area, down one flight of steps to a restraurant and see the fish thorough a number of viewing windows for free. The main areas of viewing the fish were outside and there was a charge to view them and use their other facilities. The cost of using a water taxi at that time was about $3-4 per person one way. The cost of a van from the dock to Atlantis for 6 was $15-20, one way. Times have changed the Atlantis and I'm sure the cost of transportation is up. Negotiate a price before getting a taxi to take you anywhere.

Welcome luvcruisn!

Since you've done the Wonder before, perhaps you can tell me how hard it is to get dinner reservations for Palo. I've only sailed on the Magic so there are 7 nights to choose from. Do I really need to do it at 3am EST on our 90 day mark to get what I want?

luvcruisn
10-24-2006, 11:30 AM
Stampinshauna-we have only done the brunch at Palo (both previous times) because we hated to miss a night at dinner. I don't think it was too hard to get the dinner reservations but I wouldn't wait too long. I would make sure to book them before the first time cruisers are able to.

We are going to book the 7 night Western while on this cruise. Which of the 7 nights did you take?

We are going to book the 7 night Western while on this cruise. Which of the 7 nights did you take?

We went on the 7-night Western in October 2004 and on the Eastern in October 2005. Our Western cruise was after hurricane Charley, Francis, & Jeanne, so Grand Cayman was closed to tourism at the time and they substituted Costa Maya. We did go to Key West, Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Castaway Cay. We snorkeled at Cozumel and spent a lot of time just walking around because there were so many shops close to the pier.

luvcruisn
10-24-2006, 12:54 PM
Did you like the Eastern or the Western better? My DH thinks the ports on the Eastern would be better. We haven't totally made up our minds which we would rather take.

stampinshauna
10-24-2006, 01:02 PM
Hmmmm....Hard question.

From what my travel agent told me, Western is better for snorkeling, diving, etc. and Eastern is better for beaches. Do you like sea days? You get one more sea day on the Eastern. We really enjoyed them both. If we were going on another, we'd pick Western so we could try to see Grand Cayman. Really, it is a Disney Cruise and I'm happy with whatever I get. I think part of what makes the ports fun is what you do there. We did more of the regular tour type things on the Eastern and more adventurous like snorkeling and catamaran racing on the Western, so I thought the Western ports were more fun. There really weren't any great beaches to hang out at on the Western--they were very rocky. However, we just took a water taxi across a bay at St. Maarten and there was a fun beach and we rented a jet-ski.

So, I'd say if you want more ports, better snorkeling, etc, do the Western. If you want an extra sea day & better beaches, do the Eastern. Since they both include Castaway Cay, I'd really pick based on what week works best for you. It sounds like you love DCL, so you know you will eventually try whatever one you don't go on next time. :)

10-24-2006, 01:24 PM
Thanks, Shauna! We will have the baby with us (he won't be old enough for the kids clubs yet) so the better beaches would probably work best first and I love the days at sea. There is always so much to do on the ship and never enough time on the 4 day. Your advice really helped!

I sure hope we can stop at Castaway Cay, out of all of the ports I've been to, it is my favorite. I guess it is a good thing that the sea day is planned for the day after, so in case the scheduled day is bad they can try the next day.

Any adults planning on dressing up for Pirate night? I'm debating whether to get a costume for myself or just wear a pirate shirt or something tropical. DD will definitely be dressed in a pirate costume, but I don't want to look like a dork being the only adult in a pirate costume! pirate:

I too was debating dressing up for pirate nit-where to find the outfits? The weather was so/so in WDW warm days cool nites. The weather in Nassau was warm mid to hi 70's-but it was really windy-that was what prevented the ship from docking at CC-that and the super high waves. So I'm hoping we don't miss it this time-we haven't been to CC since Aug '05-and it was the BEST! Any info the place to find women pirate accesories would be awesome! Angel

Party City has a few women's pirate costumes. This one is my favorite (http://www.partycity.com/cgi-bin/parties/costumes.cgi?parties=Halloween&productstype=Adult-Couples&products=85146&&zoom=1). They also have some good accessories (hats, bandanas etc), which I think is the direction I'm going rather than the full all-out costume! I'm too reserved to be one out of 1500 adults onboard dressed like a pirate! pirate:

Today is the 90 day mark!!!

If you've cruised with DCL before, go make your ressies! I was going to get up early to make reservations, but then I decided I'd be okay to wait a few hours. I just made Palo reservations and booked the jet-ski tour and parasailing at Castaway Cay. I think we're doing Nassau on our own. What is everyone else doing?

Is today your 90 day mark due to you having cruised before? Our 90 day for the same cruise is November 10th -since we are checking in on the 24th. I also read that we won't be able to make our reservations till 3:00 am of the 11th? Is that right or is it 3:00 am of the 10th???

For first time DCL cruisers (like us), you can book 75 days in advance. We're going DW after the cruise, so our 75 day mark is 11/14. I guess that means I get up at 2am on the morning of Nov 14 - ugh! I have to catch a flight at noon that day!

Just to confirm also - is the 75 days out from your first day of checking into Disney or from the day of sailing?

stampinshauna
10-30-2006, 05:13 PM
It is 75 days from the sail date, but maybe it is different if you are doing land & sea. It doesn't hurt to check or ask others on the cruise forum. Reservations open at 3am EST. I wasn't positive on my 90 day mark, so tried to do my reservations yesterday and it wasn't up yet. It worked this morning. For some reason I couldn't book Palo at 8am MDT, but then I tried around 9am and it worked. :confused3

I remember last time the site was down for a few days, so I couldn't book when I should have been able to. I was still able to get what I wanted.

Just in case any of you can't get what you want when booking in advance, don't worry, you can probably change it on the ship. If you want to go to Palo on a certain night and it is full, just book a back-up and then get it changed once you board. They save some reservations for booking once on board.

Thanks Shauna! I will double check but I think you are right - it is from sailing date. Glad you got what you wanted - seems a little stressful when you only have 4 days and want to do certain things on certain days (like Palo brunch) - hopefully they will still be available when it is our turn to book! pixiedust:

When you book your excursions or spa on line do they request your credit card right away or do they charge you once you are on board?

I sure hope we can stop at Castaway Cay, out of all of the ports I've been to, it is my favorite. I guess it is a good thing that the sea day is planned for the day after, so in case the scheduled day is bad they can try the next day.

How was the weather on your cruise last January? We've only sailed in October and it has been 80s-100s.

This is what I really love about Disney. We docked at CC on our regular day and the weather wasn't that great (windy and big storm hit at around 2:00 pm). We set sail as usual and the captain announced we would cruise that night and dock again at CC in the morning! :cool1: Nothing like a bonus day at CC! :thumbsup2

Shauna-to answer your ? about the weather, both times we have cruised have been this same week in Jan. It is about high 70-low 80's during the day and can be cool at night. The water in the Bahamas and CC is quite cool (About 70) and DD's lips turned purple after snorkeling about 30 minutes in the deep water! We had a great time, but be prepared for some cool weather!

They charge it to your shipboard account. So, you don't have to pay for it until the end of the cruise. That way you can book things in advance and then if you change your mind all you have to do is go online and cancel or change it (I think excursions can be changed 48 hrs before sailing with no penalty).

When booking a cruise, you can either book a specific room number or a guarantee room. A guarantee room means that you are guaranteed a room in that category or above, but DCL gets to assign you whichever room they want. For example, twice we've booked a category 12 guarantee before and we ended up in a category 11 once and a category 9 the other time and we were given room assignments about 4 weeks out. It gives the cruise line flexibilty to move people around for lifeboat purposes, and allows people to book categorys that may otherwise be full, etc.

Hi all!

I've been lurking here for the past few days getting the scoop.

DH (Jim) and I (Erica) will be joining you all on the 1/28 Wonder Cruise! I only booked it in November so it is kind of last minute compared to most of your preparations. Neither of us has been on a cruise before, so this is a big deal for us.

We got a FL resident discount so I booked the cruise and surprised DH with it on Christmas! He is very excited, and of course I am too!

We have a 3 y.o. son and I am pregnant with #2, so we are leaving DS home with his grandparents and this will be a "honeymoon-like" getaway for my husband and I. But we'd love to get together with other couples and say hi, go to a show, or whatever. I obviously won't be drinking but I still want to visit the clubs and enjoy a virgin pina colada or two.

I will have several questions in the next few days for you experienced cruisers, I'm sure.

For now, what I'm looking forward to:

1) Sitting and reading a book on the pool deck, weather permitting.
2) Eating good food without having to cook it.
3) Sleeping in and not being woken by a child yelling "MOMMY- GET UP!"
4) Having the freedom to go to a show or do anything we want, when we want to.
5) White sandy beaches (although we have them here in FL, hee hee)
6) Last but not least, enjoying the company of DH without kid or work to worry about.

Looking forward to meeting you all!:cheer2:

I'm going also!!!! I signed up in December for myself, DH, DD (6), and DS (4). Only 24 more days! Can't wait! Neither of us have been on a cruise before. We signed up for the Land/ Sea package as the kids have never been to Disney before, either.

stampinshauna - I have a question for you... Is the stop at Nassau worth getting off the boat? It sounds like there are a ton of things to do on the boat and I've read that Nassau is mostly for shopping or gambling. I'd rather not drag the two kiddies around with me and waste a day (and am not comfortable leaving them on the ship). Let me know your opinion please.

BTW, we're from Pennsylvania and are looking forward to:

wearing shorts in January
meeting the characters
seeing the wonder and excitement in my childrens eyes (I know I'll cry!)
enjoying a top notch cruise - true Disney style!

Welcome aboard Florida beach mom and lweigard! We are going to have a great cruise and you are both going to get addicted to cruising! :thumbsup2

lweigard--regarding Nassau, I've never been as I've only sailed on the Disney Magic which doesn't stop there. DH and I are planning to get off the ship and explore it a little on our own, but I'm guessing we won't be spending a lot of time onshore. A lot of people say that they prefer to stay on the ship at Nassau, but since I've never been there, I'd at least like to see it a little for myself. Depending on the weather, we may try to go over to Atlanis or something like that. Sorry I don't have more info for you about Nassau.

classicdisney--I think you'll like your cabin. We are going to be on deck 5 aft for the second time this cruise. We love it because there aren't as many staterooms so there isn't as much noise and hallway traffic. We also like deck 5 because you can take the stairs up or down as we're right in the middle. It also is nice and close to the movie theatre and shutters and only a deck or two away from dinner so you don't have to wait for the elevators.

Just think everyone, in 4 weeks we'll be leaving Nassau at this time and will be heading for Castaway Cay!!!:yay:

I signed us up for the Atlantis Aquarium and beach day, but I doubt I would do it if I had kids with me. There seems to be plenty to do on the ship for a family.

I have always wanted to see Atlantis, and we love aquariums and beaches, so I think this will be a fun little date for us.

We have shopped in the Bahamas before so I am not in a big rush to do that, so that was part of my motivation to create a fun experience without walking all around Nassau.

PS. What exactly is "Shutters?" Is it a photo studio? Sorry I'm such a newbie.:confused3

My wife, 10-month old daughter, my sister and I will be doing our first ever Disney cruise along with everyone else here and we are counting the hours until our vacation begins!

Out of curiosity, how does seating at the meals work? Do you pick the table to sit at, or does the cruise line set that up? It would be fun to be able to eat with fellow DISers.

Thanks!

Welcome gortman65! DCL assigns you to a table. You can call and have reservations linked with other DISers if you want. We've always just let DCL do it and have made some great friends that way. Do you have early or late seating?

Florida beach mom--Shutters is just the little shop where DCL displays all of the photos that they've taken and where you purchase them. Photos are everywhere and you have to search for yours.

jzimmerman9--are you sure the Nassau excursions are booked? I looked yesterday and it appears that there are a lot available, but to get the list I had to select Nassau and then click update. We haven't booked ours yet because we just don't know what we want to do there.

Guess what everyone--exactly 4 weeks from now we'll be at Castaway Cay!!! What excursions are you signed up for there? We're planning to parasail and take the personal watercraft eco tour.

We don't have anything planned for the Castaway Cay day. I had read that you can wait until you are there to see what looks fun and then sign up. I did want to do one of the open air cabana massages but didn't see any pre-registration on that. I think you have to wait to get onboard to sign up for that one (correct me if I'm wrong here).

I have second seating for dinner, also. I was worried about eating so late (being over hungry and/or having tired kids), but I think it will be ok. There's so much food available to you all day (it seems), that we'll just take a late lunch so we're not famished by 8:15.

The only question I had was this... I made reservations for DH and I to go to Palo the second night. I read somewhere that the order of the restaurants is given to you when you board. What if I like the assigned restaurant for that evening? I wouldn't want to miss the Animators Palate with the kids. But I don't want to wait until I board to reserve Palo as I hear it fills up. Any suggestions?

stampinshauna
01-02-2007, 03:09 PM
Some of the excursions at Castaway Cay may fill up before you get there (like Stingrays, Parasailing, tours, etc). Things like paddleboats, tubes, bicycles, kayaks, snorkeling, etc you can just sign up for during the day.

You may want to call DCL about the cabana massage, I'm thinking you should be able to reserve that ahead of time and maybe it is full (but they may have spaces available once you board the ship, just check with the excursion desk ASAP).

As far as Palo, don't cancel your ressie. Just wait until you check in and get your rotation schedule. If Animator's is on the second night, go to where they do Palo ressies as soon as you board the ship and you should be okay to switch the reservation. They save some ressies for booking once on board and others may be switching theirs as well.

Hello all,
I'm just lurking, checking out what the discussion is for the day. DH and I are still reliving our wonderful Halloween trip (10-28 to 11-04). My friend Serena, her DH (Ken) and DS (Kyle, 7) will be joing you on this cruise. Do you have a DISmeet set up or t-shirts or wrist bands so you can spot each other in the port terminal? I keep telling DF to check out the DISboards but she only has dial-up connection:scared1: and has problems with her computer. We are helping her out the best we can. She really needs to log on and meet you all. I told her that she couldn't meet a nicer group of people than the ones she finds on the DISboards:goodvibes
I hope you don't mind if I peek in on occasion...just to relay some info to DF. I do hope that you all have a safe and wonderful trip. If it's on a Disney ship, how bad can it be!?:rotfl:

First, you can call DCL and ask to move your dinner res to first seating. They may be able to help you. Also, for Palo's, depending on what time your res is for that (early?) you can double dip. You can do Palo's at 6pm (if available) and still take the kids to AP for the "show". No one says you have to actually eat the food in front of you.popcorn::
DH and I were going to do that on Pirate night, but we lost steam and went back to the room for a nap before the big Pirate night party. We also had a plan to do as much as possible because we didn't want to miss out on anything, being it was our first Dis cruise. After two days of this kind of thinking we just smiled at each other and said, oh well, if we miss something, we'll just catch it on the NEXT cruise!

I like the idea of matching wristbands for the trip - something everyone can easily find but would still stand out. Any ideas?

I was on another DIS meet page for a few months before our cruise and the woman who started the page got together with another DIS'er and came up with t-shirts and wristbands that the rest of us purchased from them. They had the wristbands special ordered to say "Halloween on the Disney Magic, 2006". We all wore them on the day of departure, and it was fun to walk around the port terminal looking for t-shirts or bright green wristbands. It was a blast to walk up to a stranger (not) and introduce yourself (we all knew each other by our screen names) and put a face to the name.:wave2: Other people kept asking us where we got the bands and shirts.
I know ya'll don't have time to order special bands, but maybe you can come up with name tags that are cheap and easy to find... pick out a logo for everyone (Mickey or cruise ship???) with your screen names on them, and enjoy hunting for DIS friends on embarkation day!
We also had a scheduled DIS meet on the ship in the Promenade Lounge. We met for a quick 30 minutes and had a group photo done (by a DIS'ers Dad). It was posted on our DIS page and was available for any of us who wanted a copy. It was well put together (Thanks Kritter and Heather:grouphug: ) and we had a great time with some wonderful new friends.
I hope this gives you all some ideas. It was very helpful to us knowing we had connections with people we were sailing with. Have fun!!

We are also on second dining, and I'm going to try to get on first dining when we're on board. Although, maybe with all the snacks, we will be fine?

Thanks for the info on Shutters, StampinShauna.

I was able to get a tentative list of the order of our dining when I called DCL, but I don't remember it off hand. The person did seems a little unsure of the order so I am just going to play it by ear.

Here's my next question. I heard that you have to buy bottled water on board? Would I get in trouble if I brought a case of my own in my suitcase? Is the water from the soda fountains good quality? I'm picky about water, and being pregnant means that I'm drinking a ton of it! Thanks for the tips.

We are also on second dining, and I'm going to try to get on first dining when we're on board. Although, maybe with all the snacks, we will be fine?

Here's my next question. I heard that you have to buy bottled water on board? Would I get in trouble if I brought a case of my own in my suitcase? Is the water from the soda fountains good quality? I'm picky about water, and being pregnant means that I'm drinking a ton of it! Thanks for the tips.

If the reason you don't want late dining is that you think you'll get hungry, don't worry. I've never been hungry on a cruise. There is ALWAYS something to eat, and if you can't find anything order room service (after all it is free). We prefer early dining just because I don't like to eat too late. I wish there was an inbetween time like around 7, that would be perfect.

You should be okay to bring on your own water. I don't mind the water on the ship, it is very purified. I usually just bring a few bottles of water onboard.

Hi There All!

took me a while to find you on this thread, but we will be on the wonder 1/28/07. me, dh, dd 11, ds 7, dd 5

we were on 1/27 wonder last year and had a blast. a little chilly, but being from pa, we were in our suits most of the time, and the pools are heated!!! (also the drinks warmed us up ):thumbsup2 .

see you there!!!
last year we fed the stingrays in nassau, kids loved it but water a bit chilly for me  we also snorkeled on cc - a few planters punches and the water was not so chilly:banana:

Hi there KTY!!! I'm from PA and will also be on the Jan 28th cruise!! We're from Shrewsbury - where are you from ?

I just got a hold of Shirley with The Perfect Gift and ordered a sand pail with some sand toys for dd and ds. They even had pirate stuff for the big pirate party to add into it! I even had them deliver a 6 pack of Yuengling (PA beer) to the room for DH!! They are all going to be so surprised! :woohoo: Thanks, stampishauna for the info! :cheer2:

Welcome kty! So, you're a veteran January cruiser. I hope that it isn't too cold. DH and I are wondering if maybe we should cancel our personal watercraft eco tour at Castaway Cay because it may be cold. I'd take just about anything compared to the 6 inches of snow that dumped on us yesterday.

shrewsberry, not too far from us - we are from carlisle! we pass your exit on the way to bwi:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

stampinshauna - last year we swam in the the 70 degree outdoor temperature once on board! a few drinks and the heated pools and we were good to go:cool1:
Actually, it was really nice compared to the usual pa winters - although its been pretty balmy here lately. my kids will swim in almost any temp. dont forget they have hot tubs. the pools were not crowded the first day either.

castaway - last year we had huge thunderstorm while there, and it became really windy. they actually cancelled all water activiites due to the wind etc. we still got in the water, and really didnt mind the wind - kind of funny in that a few of us on the beach stayed as the dark clouds approached and kept saying -do you think it will pass? when the rain started we headed for the tiki bar and the kids got smoothies, and the rain stopped! soooo, when we got back to the ship, the captain announced that since it was too rough and we had rain at cc, we would be going back the next day:banana: so we had two days there!! really neat- loved it - kids caught hermit crabs, etc.

KTY - 6yo DD, and 4yo DS. We're getting so excited - I'm getting so excited and keep telling everyone all the cool tips and info I gather from this website. I bought a Disney for kids by kids book and they love to hear about all the rides. DS freaked out a bit this evening thinking that the curley slide on the boat dropped him off into the ocean. I had to detail for him that there are pools on the boat (not in the water). :lmao: Only 21 more days!!!

I'm getting nervous though, we booked our trip in December and as quick as we found out, we submitted for passports. We expedited them but it's still not logged into the online system. It's freaking me out a bit!

ArmandXG - I love your idea of us all wearing matching shirts or something so that we stand out better when we're checking in. I've seen pictures under the Cruise reports section where everyone is wearing a bright green shirt. I don't know what's common at all the different stores that would be easy to find this season. I'll have to go and check it out. I'd like to find something that's easy for everyone to find - no matter where they live.

stampinshauna - That's too bad about the snow... I can't wait for warmer weather, either!

Hopefully you get the passports on time, but at least they aren't mandatory for sea travel this year. When I got mine in August, it only took about 4 weeks.

I have to giggle because I grew up in Colorado and know a little about the cold too! Yuck. HOWEVER, now I live in Florida, and I'll just say that we've had our AC on every day this month, I'm sitting here in a tank top, and I always keep my ceiling fan on at night unless we specifically get a cold front.

Unless there is a cold front coming in at the time of our cruise, you should be fine for your water tour. I would just pack layers and watch the forecast for the Nassau on weather.com. Sweatshirts are a great asset to have in this climate if you need them.

Today our temp was in the 80's and right now (9:40pm) we're at about 60. Pretty tolerable especially if you are from the cold climates.:cool1:

Stampinshauna - The Disney docs I received said that I did need them for sea travel. Either way, I got them to be safe.

Glad to hear it's warm down there in FL! It's unseasonably warm up here in PA this week - yesterday it was around 60-65. I'll be sure to pack those layers, though.

Gortman65 - We picked Port Orleans. I hope we are able to squeeze in an afternoon at the pool... it sounds really kid friendly.

ClassicDisney - We are doing the land portion before the cruise, so we are going to the Pirate/Princess party on the 26th. I hope to be able to sneak everyone back to the room for a nap, though, because I read the party goes til past midnight! It sounds like something I'd really kick myself if I missed it.

I've been reading more about this 'Year of a Million Dreams'. Sounds exciting. Random CM come up to you and give you anything from a lanyard, All day Fast Pass, a night in the Cinderella castle room, or a 10 day Cruise! How incredible would it be to be picked! Wow... like being in Disney isn't enough of a HIGH! Can't wait!

The kids marked another day off of our calendar today. DS says he's going to eat all the watermelon on the whole boat (too funny - I hope that have some:lmao: ). DD can't wait to swim!

Has anyone received their cruise documentation yet from DCL? I just spoke with my TA and she said DCL printed mine last week but won't be sending them out until later this week. That means we likely won't get the package until the week before we leave. Is that normal or are they running behind?

I don't know....what does everyone think? I didn't know about the DIS on my first cruise, and the meets thread for my second cruise was over 200 pages and I was overwhelmed and didn't get involved, so I guess I'm a rookie when it comes to meets as well. We could just try to meet somewhere during the sail away party or something like that. Does anyone have ideas of ways to identify ourselves? Who would even be interested in meeting? I know for some it is easy to post on these boards but to meet up may be out of their comfort zone.

Someone suggested wristbands, is anyone interested? I would be willing to coordinate that if you want. I just found one web site that will allow small quantity orders (most require 200+) and we'd be looking at around $2 a piece, but we'd need to order in the next couple days so that they come in time. They do have child sizes as well.

We're celebrating my 50th b'day (12/06), our 30th Anniv (1/08) and my 10th anniv of ordination this year (I'm a pastor)

We'll be staying at Saratoga Springs for the week prior to the cruise.

Would love to get together with other DISers if anything is organized. It's just me and DH, and we're planning to stay on the ship the whole time, except for CC of course!!!

Shauna, are they wristbands that we could wear the whole time or will they wear out? I'd like it to be an ID we could wear every day, not just on the first day, if possible.

I'd be willing to pay what you suggested. Thanks for looking into it. Also, is there a way to leave them with the check in people with a roster so we could get them as we check in? How would that work? Or would they get mailed out first, and we'd reimburse for the postage?

I'm not sure if I'll get them soon enough to mail them out, but I could always leave them at your staterooms (there are little spots for mail and I could put them in an envelope) or find you during check in. We're staying at the Wilderness Lodge the night before and are taking Disney transfers so we won't get to the port until 1:00 or so.

The wristbands are those silicone ones that have become very popular--all started with the yellow Lance Armstrong ones. Check out wristbandsnow.com for more info, they have the best price & shipping that I've found.

If any of you did not get my pm, let me know so I can add you to my pm list. Here is the info I pm'd :

Hi Fellow Cruisers,

A few people on our cruise meets thread are wondering about being able to identify other DISers on our cruise. I am willing to coordinate getting some lime green wristbands if we have enough interest. The will be around $2 each and we will have to figure out how I can get them to you, but we are just trying to decide if it is even worth doing.

Please post on our thread if you are interested and how many adult and child sizes you'd want. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1154965

Also, if you have ideas of what we should print on them, post that as well.

Happy packing! We'll be sailing in less than 3 weeks!:cool1:

I'd be interested in a wristband - I'd need 2 adult, and 2 child sized. Would you like me to send you a check or what? I've never been on a cruise before, so I don't know when or where would be a good place/time to meet. I wouldn't want to miss the Sail Away Party. Is there a big gap between the time we board and the time we sail? I've read other DISers meeting at a restaurant or at a specific deck.

I haven't received my docs yet, either. I was able to check online to see that Disney did make my flight and transfer arrangements (going true Disney-style!) I did get the brochure that showed the excursions and gifts you can have delivered to the room. I would think something would come with the tags for our bags and other important stuff.

Shauna,

I'd be interested in the wristbands. We would need three adult bands. Not sure a child's band would be small enough for my 10-month-old daughter -- and she'd probably just chew on it anyway!

Do you have a PayPal account that we could send the money to? As for what the bands might say, it would be cool if they had at least the ship name and cruise date on them. My wife could put hers in her scrapbook then!

Thanks for agreeing to head this up, Shauna, and have a great day!

If we have at least 20 to order, I'll go ahead and do it. We'll figure out payment once we know if we are going to order. We could use paypal and I'll figure out what the fees are or we could meet on the ship.

The child size is 7" and the adult is 8".

All I have come up with is:
"Disney Wonder Jan 28 '07" That is about all that will fit. Any other ideas?

PS. Edited to add that I am right now Tivo'ing the Travel Channel's show all about the DCL! I haven't seen it before except for about 10 minutes, and I am so excited that DH and I will get to see it before we sail! If you have the Travel channel, look for it to be on today or tonight!

I vote for "Wonder" and the cruise date on the bands. Doesn't matter to me what format the date is in.

Shauna, Being I'm the one who actually suggested the wristbands, I will also order two adult bands and one child. I'm doing this for my friend who will be joining you on the cruise. I want her and her family to have as much fun as I did on my first sailing.:goodvibes
We had our DIS meet at 3:00 in the Promenade Lounge. Plenty of time to get resi's done, have lunch, drop stuff off at room, and time to spare before sailaway party. If you miss the meet and greet in the terminal, this gives you another chance to meet each other and put a face the the screen name. I think we all had more fun looking for our green wrist bands in the terminal. We not only got to introduce ourselves to each other, but we also met non dis'rs when they asked about all the green bands. What a conversation starter!
I so wish I was going! I really enjoy the DIS boards and remembering all the fun people we met, I can't wait for my next cruise!

Okay, so I think the wristbands are a go. Here's who I have sailing and have listed wristbands if you want them. Please let me know if anything is incorrect...

stampinshauna & Castaway Kev--2 adult wristbands
classicdisney--2 adult
binks
TadyBug
jzimmerman9--2 adult 2 child
KS Prairie gal

Aunt Jo
GirlieGirl

Frankiesmom
Florida beach mom--2 adult

kty--2 adult 3 child
gortman65--3 adult
DisneyDuo--2 adult

So far that is 18 and we need 20 for the price break but I'm sure we'll be fine. They will be $1.85 each. What is easier for everyone--paypal and I can leave in the slot by your stateroom or meet up? Paypal would add a little to the cost because I'd have to include the paypal fee. A check would be fine or we can just meet up and exchange wristbands & the money.

I completely agree. This weekend our lows are supposed to be between -3 and 5 degrees and highs around 10-13 degrees. I'm definately looking forward to some warmer weather.

I wish passing wristbands out in the terminal would work better, but we're using the Disney transfers from the Wilderness Lodge and so I don't think we'll get there until 1:30 or so and I'm sure some of you would already be on the ship by then. If anyone who is going to the port earlier in the morning wants to meet up on Saturday in the MK or at the Wilderness Lodge, I can send wristbands with you.

Okay, I checked with Wristbandsnow.com and if I order today they should arrive by the 22nd. I will wait a few more hours to see if anyone else wants them and then I will order. Does anyone want any extras to give away to fellow shipmates? I think I'll order a couple extras in case we need them.

Does it work for you all if we use paypal? I figured if we say $2 per wristband plus $0.25 cents per order my costs will be covered. You can pay with a checking account or a credit/debit card. So, if you want 2 wristbands it would be $4.25 and 4 wristbands would be $8.25, etc. If you don't use paypal and want to send a money order or check, pm me for my address and then it is $1.85 per wristband.

As soon as the wristbands come I will notify you and you can decide if you want them dropped off at your stateroom or if you want to find me at a meet or in the terminal. If they come fast enough, I could even mail them. If you want yours mailed, please wait to pay me until the order comes so we can make sure there is enough time to mail them and then you can include $ to cover the postage. I will be in the MK on the Saturday the 27th and will be at the WL that night. If anyone is going to go to the port earlier than me and wants to take the wristbands, you could meet me and get them. Let's just get them ordered and have them arrive and then we'll figure it out.

Shauna-Sorry I did not reply sooner! If there are any left, I would like one adult and one child. If there aren't anymore than we will just meet up and say Hi when everyone meets:)

jzimmerman9-I have a DD who is 11 also! I have a 15 month old DS, too. We are not doing Flounders this time. We cruised with DCL when he was 14 weeks and it did not work out well.

luvcruisn,

When your then-14 week old son was in Flounders, what problems did you experience? I'm just curious because most of the opinions I've read on Flounders were positive. Thanks and hopefully we'll get to see you on the cruise. We leave in two weeks for the land/sea package! Yippie!!

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I was BF my DS when we cruised. I had fed him right before taking him to Flounders. I brought an expressed bottle with him, but told them he would not be hungry for 2.5 hours and was ready for a nap. No sooner did we sit down at our table and get our drinks when they paged me (two nights in a row) to pick him up because he was crying and would not take his bottle. He had been at Flounders less than 15 minutes both times. When we arrived, he was not really upset but just wanted to sleep. I know it was probably because DS was so young and they usually don't have them at that age. One good thing, is they only charged us for a total of 2 hours instead of 4 hour minimum they should have. It was not a horrible experience, it just didn't work for us. I have heard some really wonderful things, but be prepared for them to page you.

My 11 DD has already worried that she would not meet anyone, so she would love this! Right now, she is busy with family, my FIL died a couple days ago and we have family in from out of state. Everything will settle down by Sunday then she would love to email or IM some of the girls that will be there. I'll talk to her tonight and give her a few days to think up conversation topics. Then should I PM whoever has DD that want in? Not sure of a easy way to do this...any ideas? Maybe we could get them their own thread?
Let me know to proceed.....

I will talk with my DD tonight. That age is so funny and I sure she will want to "prepare". She has yahoo and MSN IM. We could try and arrange a time that they can talk. Only 16 more days til the cruise! 13 more til our Disney trip begins!

Great news... I checked online and our passports have been mailed! They're due by the 17th! Yippppeeeee! What a relief! I received DH two days ago.

So, we've started packing - more like making piles to see what I need and what still fits. Is anyone bringing anything fun on the boat that I should think about? For instance, I read on another post that people bring bubbles for the sail away party, or pirate garb for the pirate party. Some people even mentioned magnetics for their door. Any other ideas???

My DDs have been planning pirate costumes from the moment we told them about the cruise. We also made some door signs over the Christmas break, which I hope will help us find our room. I have heard other people mention bringing little favors for the Pirate Party, or gifts from Tinkerbelle or Mickey to put on the kid's pillow each night. Don't know if I will do that, as my girls are a little old to fall for it!

We had magnetic signs on our door stating we were DIS'rs, it was our first cruise AND it was our wedding anniversary. On the second day, we walked out of our room and noticed that we had acquired another sign wishing us a happy anniversary from our DISboard friends:goodvibes . Someone took charge of printing out signs to acknowledge birthdays and anniversaries. We later took a tour of the boat, walking down all the halls, looking at all the wonderful door decorations. Some people get a little wild. One family had the entire door, from top to bottom covered with photo's of ALL their previous Disney cruises. One family simply put Mickey ears above their door number, giving it the classic "hidden mickey" look.:rotfl:
Our DIS board tried to do a door tag game, where if you found the tag on your door, you would sign the back with name and room # and then proceed to tag another DIS'r without being caught. We had a list of those who wanted to participate in the game, so we knew where everyone was. Unfortunately, we found that alot of us didn't get tagged because someone took our tag sign. I guess they found it to be cute and wanted it for themselves:confused3 . I have heard rumors (on the DISboard) of mischevious children (and maybe some adults) taking door decorations and moving them a few doors down:confused: . But I didn't hear of that happening on our cruise (except for the missing door tag).
I hope this gives you some ideas. You can make up your own activities, like icecream eating contests, scavenger hunts, etc. I know there is so much to do on the ship, but when you schedule time to meet new friends that you've met on the DISboards, it makes it so much better. Every where we went, on and off the ship, we ran into DIS friends. I look forward to our next cruise, :boat: knowing we will meet more wonderful people on the DISboard.
I WANNA GO NOW!!!:disrocks:

Where in Wisconsin are you from? We are in Burlington, 30 miles South of Milwaukee.

We are from Tomah - about 2.5 hours from Milwaukee.

We had a "Create our Door Sign" night - my girls and my sil dd's had a blast making signs. I logged onto the boards and showed them some samples of what others did. Cheap and got them very excited. They have a disney countdown link chain going and we have a countdown calendar going. All 4 of them have pirate costumes for pirate night. We also did glow in the dark necklaces for pirate night - read that on someone's post. Opted to not doing bubbles since I really didn't want them packed in suitcase with my clothes for fear of them leaking and getting all over. I figured they will be to busy dancing to worry about blowing them.

Gortman65 - We're doing Disney first - we're staying at Port Orleans. We leave on Jan 25th. I think the plan (so far), is to go to AK on the 25th for the 1/2 day we have left once we arrive. Then MK the 26th with the Pirate and Princess Party that evening. I'd like to hit MGM on the 27th (or back to MK if we haven't had enough). That evening we have reservations for the Sci-Fi Theatre. The next day is the boat... can't wait for that part!

logabbmom and ArmandXG - Thanks for the door sign ideas. I mentioned them to DH and just got this: :sad2: - I think it sounds like a lot of fun! I think it sounds like fun! lweigard,

Are you staying at POFQ or POR? My wife and I stayed at Riverside for our honeymoon in Oct. 2004 and really loved it.

My sister is coming along with us on our land/sea vacation. Since it's her first time ever at WDW, we are going to try spending some time at every park so she gets at least a little taste of everything. I think we're doing either Epcot or DD the evening we arrive (1/25), then MK and AK on Friday (including the character breakfast at CP), then MGM and Epcot on Saturday. We're hoping to catch Illuminations and maybe Fantasmic if it works out. I'm almost as excited for my sister to discover the magic as I am in reliving it for myself and my wife! Let's hope the long range forecast pushes the temperatures up for the time we're there. According to accuweather, the highs in Orlando for that weekend are only high 50's-low 60's, while they're having highs in the 80's right now.

we are definitely bringing pirate costumes, kids are psyched with that. but if you dont want to bring pirate costumes, everyone gets bandana tied around head at dinner the night of the pirate party.

also bringing own snorkeling gear for cc, as we have it, and that way we dont need to rent them. also maybe sand pails/shovels if they fit.

bringing waterproof cameras for kids to mess around with - alot cheaper at walmart than on cc

not sure about getting around to door signs, i'll have to mention it to kids - if i tell dh he will just look at me like this:sad2: he already thinks im nuts.

gortman65 - we'll be at the POFQ section (hoping the beignets will bring back Mardi Gras memories:cool2: )! Sonds like you will have a jam packed visit! You'll need the R&R on the ship, for sure!

Stampinshauna - glad to hear POFQ is a good pick! It received some really good reviews in the books I've read.

kty -Bringing snorkels is a great idea. The kids will only want to play with them for a few minutes anyway, so I'll save the rental fee! (Plus, putting mouth on rental snorkel is kinda gross).

logabbmom - I love the idea of bringing glow necklaces. It'll all be so much less expensive here, too. I did pick up some fun disposable cameras and an underwater camera here, also.

We received our Pirates & Princesses tickets Friday! Can't wait for that! If anyone attends before the 25th, please let me know how it went!

Here in sunny South Florida...I mean North Carolina it's t-shirt weather. I've been in a t-shirt since before Christmas. On occasion the wind got chilly enough for a sweat shirt, but it has been depressingly warm here. I am a polar bear and I like the cold. I have been known to bar-b-que in an ice storm :rolleyes1 ( a N.C. ice storm, not like what's going on in the mid west).

I wasn't sure what was meant by "receiving your documents" but we got ours today. It is a booklet filled with tickets, forms, etc.

Here's my question: Since I filled out the medical form and the payment authorization form online, do they make you fill it out AGAIN in the booklet? I'm going to leave it blank for now since I did it online. But I will fill out the Bahamas customs form.

Florida Beach Mom - How exciting you received your docs today! I thought no one would have gotten mail since it was MLK day (I'm running out to the mailbox now!)...

I've started packing... we leave in 10 days (I said to my kids this evening... Wow, that's only two hands full!:cheer2: ). Disney Veterans, for a 7 day stay in FL, does 3 pair of shorts and a pair of pants sound like enough for each of us? There are four of us and I don't want to bring 7 outfits each - hoping to do laundry once, at least. I figure some days we'll just have our suits on anyway (hoping for great weather)...

I have to tell you all, the last four times we've gone on vacation, it has rained. And, I don't mean sissy rain, I'm talking buckets and for days... let's not call it a vacation yet, I'm just "taking a break from Pennsylvania"! :beach:

Hey Lweigard, I'm in PA too! It hasn't been bad this year, but I'm with you, ready for FL and the Wonder!

We've had rainy vacations down there, but it doesn't stop us - we just get soaked and have a blast anyway.

I usually bring four bottoms - two pair of jeans and 2 pair of "other" pants. I'm not a shorts person. But that's usually sufficient if we do laundry once during the time we're there. And I always figure if I need something more, that's a good excuse for a "souvenier"!

See ya in Paradise!

We got our docs via UPS, who I guess delivered on MLK day!

I would think three shorts are OK, but you'll definitely be doing laundry. Maybe 4 shirts, or just 3 if you are all planning to buy one there. One pair of pants should be OK but bring them to the parks every day.

Winter is usually a time of less rain around here, but I know that they are expecting showers next weekend. When we went to WDW in December, we got caught in a huge downpour once but the rest of the time it was mild and we just wore our layers accordingly. Bring a good sweatshirt, I think it's more convenient to bring those than jackets, personally.

We had rain about a week ago and nothing since. I hope it stays nice for everyone's pre-cruise trip!

Florida beach mom

Hi All -

just curious as to whether any of you have shore excursions planned for nassau, or whether you have decided to hang on the boat. Last year we did the stingray feeding and the kids loved it - 11 year old was a bit cautious - and when we tease her about it she says "See what happened to the crocidile hunter?" It was a good time though.

this year we are trying the dolphin encounter. the kids are water and animal lovers, so I am hoping this will be great for them. I have heard the dolphin swim is better, but I know that it is more costly and not offered through disney excursions - also I am a bit hesitant with the ages of my youngest to try that just yet(5,7). we will have to see how the petting and kissing of dolphins go first :rotfl:

what about cc, any plans - I know stampinshauna has said about jet skiing tour - that would be great - but with our family, the ski's only hold two and there are 5 of us :sad2: Last year we hung out on the beach, snorkled, found hermit crabs, had drinks delivered to our beach chairs and had a great time. So that is what we are leaning towards.

talk to you all soon - btw, we did not get our docs yet:mad:

Our travel agent received our docs today, but she said it looks like not all the required paperwork was included. By the time she got them, the DCL department she needed to talk to was gone for the day. Hopefully she can get everything straightened out tomorrow!

As for excursions, right now we're signed up for the Nassau historic tour. I have a feeling it might be disappointing but we figured since this is our first time there, we should get a sense for the history of the place.

We were planning to try snorkeling at CC (temperatures permitting) and just enjoy the beach. It still looks like the temps during our time in Orlando and on the cruise will be lower than they are now, but heck, the lowest low there will beat anything we can order here in Denver right now!

It was hard for us to decide since this is our first cruise, but after reading the boards, it sounded like maybe we should enjoy a ship that isn't so crowded, plus it saved $$!! We hope to snorkel at Castaway Cay, and enjoy the beach. We don't get to many opportunities for that living in Kansas!

Gortman65
I have a brother and 2BIL in Denver, so I know you have already had your share of winter! I agree that about any warmer weather will feel balmy right now!

kty, hang in there, you should get them tomorrow, I'd hope. I'm in PA, also, and received everything via UPS. We don't have any big plans for Nassau. Besides Atlantis, I don't think there's much I'm interested in seeing. We may leave the boat for a bit just to say we saw Atlantis, but I cannot stand being harrassed to buy things, and I hear you get that a lot at Nassau. At CC, I am signed up for the cabana massage, but other than that, we're going to do like you did last year ' have drinks delivered and look for hermit crabs'. The kids really want to go to the dinosaur dig, too.

gortman65, what did your agent say was missing? I wonder if I'm missing something as well.

classicdisney - DH and I are having dinner at Palo on the 29th. I didn't know they had a brunch. That sounds more enticing to me since I wouldn't want to miss one of my dinner rotations - all of the restaurants sound so fun. Have a blast at Disney... wow 3 days - you must be all geeked up!

Hi All -

this year we are trying the dolphin encounter. the kids are water and animal lovers, so I am hoping this will be great for them.

We did the Dolphin Encounter two years ago and loved it! We thought it was worth the money (and of course they do pictures while you are there so make sure to take your credit card). DD loves looking back at our pictures. We plan on doing it again when DS gets a older (he is 14 months).

We are planning on staying on the ship at Nassau most of the day with a quick trip into the city for a little shopping:woohoo: . At CC we don't have any excursions planned but I would love to do the glass bottom boat (since DS can do that). We also do the paddle boats and the catamaran. Lots of fun:banana:

We got our docs on Monday and can't wait!

lwiegard -- apparently she thought some vouchers were missing from my sister's package (she has her own stateroom separate from ours), but after calling DCL, she said nothing is amiss. Apparently my sister already completed some of the check-in online, so DCL didn't print what she had already done. My wife is going to pick up our docs this morning! :)

kty - did you get'em today? :scared:

wow sounds like everyone has tons of fun stuff to do:banana:

gortman - the nassau tour sound interesting to me, i would love to do it, but not kids:confused3 - they need to be kept active. you will have to let me know how it goes...

lweigard - shopping is what i like to do :cool1: but dh and kids do not sound like fun - and the cabana massage thing - awesome - sounds like a great time.

ksgirl - you are right, the ship is pretty darn quiet when docked at nassua - you will be able to enjoy the ship without a crowd - i remember it was pretty quiet prior to our excursion last year, and we got back early afternoon, and it was still quiet until later in the day.

luvcruisin - how many cruises have you been on? thanks for the info on the dolphin encounter :thumbsup2

jzimmerman - dolphin swim will be awesome - I truly was considering it, but youngest dd is not old enough and would have a fit if she could not do what the older two are doing. you will have to let me know how it goes. your kids will enjoy feeding the stingrays.

alot of activities on cc are for children 8 and up - like banana boat, jet skis, parasailing - and if the younger ones see the older one doing it, forget it:scared1: i will never hear the end of it :sad2:

talk to you all soon

kty,

We talked with my sister last night and are considering cancelling our reservations for the historic tour. She is a huge POTC fan and really wants to see the Pirate Museum in Nassau. That isn't included in the historic city tour. So we will probably just walk to the museum and check it out. The admission is quite a bit less expensive than the tour anyway. More money for souvenirs then!

hey gortman,

I have heard of others going to the pirate museum, i forgot all about that one until you mentioned it!! sounds like fun to me. you might find other info about the museum if you do a search on the regular disboards cruise forum. And, lots of good souveniers in nassau - just wish the rest of my family like to shop as much as me :)

No docs here yet :confused3 I'll be giving Costco Travel a call after work.

The wristbands shipped yesterday, hopefully they come fast so there is time to mail them out to those of you who want them mailed. Once they arrive I'll post and figure out how everyone wants to get them (like meet me on the 27th in the MK or meet me at the port 1:30-2:00ish or have me drop them by your stateroom or bring them to the meet.

As far as the meet goes, someone suggested a time like 3:00pm. So how about this--whoever wants to meet, be near Pinocchio's Pizzaria at 3:00. If you don't know where that is, it is on deck 9 by the Goofy pool. I'll be wearing a lime green Disney shirt and of course a wristband.

Hey Shauna, we'll probably already be gone by the time you get the bands and make "delivery" arrangements, so how about we get them from you at the DIS meet? We'll be there at 3 at Pinochios!

Blessings - Lin

Hi all, My friend Serena stopped by today. She read some of the posts and I told her about the wrist bands. She was amazed by all the tips and suggestions. She was hesitant to post anything, though. She has a thing about posting on the "internet". She is so excited and ready to go. She hasn't gotten her doc's yet, but her T.A. said that they're in the mail (maybe tomorrow???).
Shauna, If the bands come in the next few days, I'll have you mail them to me. I sent you a pm about it. If not, I'll tell Serena to meet you by the pizzaria at 3:00.
I wish all of you safe travels, great weather, smooth sailing and LOTS OF FUN!(Oh how I wish I was going with you!)

kty - oh yeah... aren't you doing the happy dance right now??!!

Stampinshauna - you should get them soon, I'd think! Mine came via UPS... are you having any weather issues that would keep them away? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you tomorrow! I'll meet you at the pool at 3pm. I'm not sure what time we'll get to the port or else I'd meet you there instead. What time can we board the boat?

Is anyone else finding that it's rare to meet someone that's genuinely excited for you? I have a BF that is constantly saying 'don't rub it in'. And family members that just give me that deer in headlights look when I tell them we're going to Disney. Then I feel like I have to justify it by saying 'well we haven't gone on a vacation for 3 years, we only went camping last year...'. I have a few great friends that are pumped, but for the most part I get the guilt trip or jealous bit. I feel like saying 'Don't rain on my parade, you buzz kill'.:headache:

I called Costco Travel and they said Disney is always slow with the docs (hmmm, not this slow my last 2 cruises). Anyway, they said they sent them UPS 2 day air yesterday and gave me a tracking number. It looks like they are in Utah and I'll get them tomorrow!

I can relate to people not being that excited. It is also hard not to rub it in that we get to leave this FREEZING weather (it was 5 degrees this morning and the high was around 25--and it has been like this for over a week). Luckily I helped a friend book her family on a cruise for the same week we are sailing (unfortunately not Disney) but now we can be excited for our cruises together.

Yay--in just 8 days DH and I will be leaving for the airport to take the red-eye to Orlando. Hurry up 8 days!!!

Yeah! It finally snowed in N.C.! It probably won't last long...it never does.

I may not be a personal friend, but I'm excited for all of you. I did the Oct-Nov. cruise, so the memories are still fresh. I have a couple of Disney friends and when they go on their trips I am way excited for them as they are for me when I go. Maybe it's a Disney thing. Those who aren't big fans just don't get what the excitement is about.

Shauna, Please respond to PM I sent you. I need an address to mail my money to you for the wristbands.

Shauna,

Do you have a rough idea of when on the 27th you'll be in the MK? If our schedules work out, it's possible we could meet you there to pick up our wristbands. Otherwise we will just plan to pick them up from you at the 3:00 pm DIS meet on the ship. Hard to believe that about a week from now we will be leaving the cold and snow of Colorado for some Florida Disney magic!

We are planning to be at the MK most of the day on the 27th. We are taking a red-eye flight and will arrive in Orlando around 9:30am so I'd guess we'd be in the MK by 11:00am and will stay there until 5:00pm or so as we have a dinner reservation at the Wilderness Lodge around 5:30. If you do want to try to meet up, I can pm you my cell #.

Today is my day off, so I am getting my hair done, and last minute shopping so we can leave next week! What is everyone bringing to wear for the dining rooms? We got some matching Disney outfits for one night, but am thinking about some black capris for the other nights. Anyway, I need to go over my lists and see what else I need, and get all the packing done over the weekend. We will leave before we know it!

Leaving next week--that has a nice ring to it doesn't it. :)

For the dining rooms I have some skirts that I call my cruise skirts. They are just casual cotton skirts that I've gotten from Disneyshopping over the years and they have Mickey & Minnie on them. I also have a couple that have tropical flowers with no characters but they put me in the cruising mood.

I have some last minute shopping to do too, I guess I had better get in gear

I am still not clear on what night you dress up for, besides Palo's. Is it for Triton's? Is that on the rotation that everyone does? How dressy for Triton's?

I am confused and the person I asked from DCL wasn't much help, they couldn't clearly tell me my rotation schedule.

I guess they have one night that they call Dress-Up night. On the sailing on January 7th it was on Monday, so I'm guessing that's what it will be again. You can see the recent Navigators (schedule of events) on *****************.

The wristbands came today!!! They aren't quite as bright of a lime as they looked online, but they will work great. I can mail some on Monday if people want them mailed out (and have paid for it).

Shauna, I will get my money out first thing monday. I don't think you will be able to mail it to me in time to get it to Serena before she leaves for Fla. Unless I send you extra and you overnight it. I think I'll just have her look for you or you look for her. Either way, I trust you to get to her. I do thank you for getting these done.

Four more days and we leave for FL! I'm so jealous of ClassicDisney to be down there right now! It started to snow up here in PA this afternoon and there's a nice coating on the ground. It's supposed to pick up again this evening! Yuck... I don't like cold weather.

We finished up all the packing I could possibly do (except all the last minute stuff like toothbrushes, etc). I found this cool packing list online thru another Disney site: http://www.geocities.com/Calgon1/Ultimate_Packing_List.html - some of it was over the top, but I did get a lot of good ideas from it.

Glad to be reminded about Dress Up night. I need to pack one more dressy outfit. I like stampinshauna's idea of a tropical skirt... I think I have one that will work!

It used to be when you at Triton's but on our last cruise (same week last year), it was at whichever restaurant you ate at on Monday. It will let you know on your Navigator which day it will be. I like it on Monday much better because we ate at Triton's on Sunday and it would have been a rush to get ready if we had the early dinner.
