All of the restaurants on the BG website look really good, but which would you recommend - thinking counter service to maximise ride time. There is a link to the menu of each CS but I can't get the link to work - is there another unofficial site which has this info?

Gosh, that's a hard one for us cause we Never eat at them there, The hospitality house had good sandwiches years ago and it was nice to sit on the patio by the water.
2nd floor of the Colony House is probably a good place to eat too. They have several different places to choose from (like at a mall food center. You can eat indoor or on the patio on that floor, too.

my husband and I really enjoyed the hospitality house....they had great pizza and fries and their sandwiches looked really good. Plus it was neat sitting outside on the plaza watching the people and birds.

We always eat at the sit down restaurant in the Colony House. I should have stated that when I said we never eat at the counter service restaurants. When it is hot is great taking a break in the air conditioning and being pampered. It usually only takes about an hour to hour and half from time we sign in for a table till we finish eating and are walking around "Africa" to see the animals . We generally eat a late lunch as the only meal for the day so there is lots of time for the rides and shows. .

We generally eat at the Colony House too. The view overlooking the savannah with giraffes, zebras, etc. is great. But, as the OP requested a good counter service restaurant, I'd recomment Zambia Smokehouse in Stanleyville (near SheikRa.) Their specialty is barbecued chicken and ribs and they were quite good. They have an open pit which you can see from outside the restaurant and check out what types of flavoring woods they're using that day (mesquite, oak, etc.)
