Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we're a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. Some of us are training for the 2006 Disneyland Half and for the 2007 WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news/training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Shhh...be vewy quiet...I ran today. The foot is much better. I'm surprised at how much of a difference. Not sure how much was due to the NB arch supports, the icing or the combination. It's not healed, but definitely better. So I'm doing a different kind of LSD now...the Lower, Slower Distance...2 miles today in 28:35 at W7/R3. So not a bad pace for the intervals I was doing. There's a little blurb in this month's RW about how cranky runners get when they aren't allowed to run for a couple weeks :rolleyes1
Jen...how was your 5k?
Anyone seen Lily around lately?
Carrie...thanks for everything with the shirt orders! That had to be a huge job this year! I can't wait to see them.
Sunny...love the new Goofy graphic! Can we talk you into a Mickey and Donald to match?
Krista...how does Kiki Hines sound? Or is that your romance novelist name? ;)
MelR...maybe there's some more info on ASMu suites on the resorts board. They look pretty nice! The only other alternative I could think of is renting points from a DVC member. I don't know what they're charging for the ASMu suites, but you could get a nice big room at OKW by renting points.
Robb...you can be from anywhere you want. I don't think we actually have anyone from California on the team, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. We don't want to get Team Canada and Team Cali confused ;)
Have a good week!

Yay! I managed my 4 miles without throwing up...cause I ate breakfast like good trainee!! Pat, THANK YOU so much for posting your time! I'm posting mine only in hopes of encouraging someone who may be lurking that is just as slow as I am. I averaged a 15:30 pace. I started out too fast for my recovering foot..15:10 for the first mile, so I slooowwwed down. Then Garmin started telling me it was getting a weak GPS signal, and when the second mile came up, it showed at 14:11 pace!! :rotfl2: I knew THAT wasn't right. The other two miles were 15:25 and 15:35, so I'll call it a 15:30 average.
Cam and Rhonda taught me another reason for wanting to be a little faster than the 16 minute pace..to be able to stop and take pictures with the characters! :goodvibes Minnie was my first event with sweepers, and I was pushing getting a 15 minute pace, so I wouldn't even THINK of stopping!! I took my pictures on the fly!! This time I hope to be able to stop!
Mel, So glad you ran and felt good! :tiptoe: :cheer2:
Cam, I'm sure you didn't need me to remind you, just wanted you to know your WISH friends care!
Heather, Good job on getting those steps in! :thumbsup2
Christa, Small or not, digging holes, lugging plants, dragging hoses, filling holes..counts as CROSS TRAINING!! :lmao:

Wow, there is a whirlwind of training going on! I'm up and down with the sciatica. Not too happy with the steriods results.
Lynn-- you are amazing! Kona????? Yes, please do share the Goofy '07 with BT. Please give them the link to my cafepress store (www.cafepress.com/livinglively).
As for Mickey and Donald-- I'm up for the challenge ;) They'll be on the way...
We've been busy. DS and I have been having a blast being on vaca together. Yesterday he said to me, "I wish you never had to go back to work so we could keep playing everyday" :sad2: I wish that, too! I suppose we would get bored at some point.
DS got his orange belt in Jujitsu on Thursday  I'm so proud of him.
DD is training for our Irongirl 5K July 9th. She doesn't think she'll be able to run it, but that's fine. As long as we finish.
I have to add a sad and emotional story about styrofoam cups.
Two weeks ago Sonya's (DD) friend's sister died of sickle cell anemia. She was 20. Her sister put up a R.I.P. sign for her on the high school chain linked fence in styrofoam cups. That's the tradition in town. Usually the signs are team spirit oriented, sometimes birthday wishes, but way too often they are R.I.P. signs for kids who have died.
I drove by and noticed her sign had been moved off to the side and transcribed very sloppily (cups missing). I was heartbroken and angry. Someone wanted the "prime realastate" of the fence for a huge sign and they tossed hers aside. So I went to teh store and bought a couple hundred styrofoam cups and some bright pink spray paint and Sonya and I went down and made her a new sign. There was plenty of room between the huge sign that displaced her original sign and a "Sweete 16 sign". We wrote R.I.P. Crystal with two crosses and a heart and put some flowers inthe fence. We sprayed everything pink except teh crosses.
Later I walked down to see it again and noticed for the first time the sign that had displaced Crystals. It was for Jessica's one year memorial. Sonya knew Jessica, too. She died at 15 last June 27th. Her boyfriend got his licence. Jessica didn't know what to do because she knew he'd want to take her out and her parents forbade her to go, not to mention our state has a law against minors driving minors for the first 6 months. But on the day of his getting his licence he took her for a joy ride and tried to show off. She died in a high speed head-on collision with an SUV. I believe teh SUV driver was pregnant and lost her baby. Last I heard, the boy was losing his license for a few years and getting one year community service.
Jessica's sign was multicolored, huge, loaded with flowers and on the ground in front of it was a large tray of Dunkin Donut drinks; full ice coffees, colattas, etc.
I just lost it. How tragic. I can't believe I was angry at the kids who displaced Crystals sign (even thought they still shouldn't have).
So now the two stories sit on the fence in styrofoam cups. I can't believe how significant styrofoam cups can be.

Sunny - Good grief, I'm sitting here crying over styrofoam cups. What a cool tradition, although in this case how terribly sad. We've had a string of high school kids dying in car crashes the past couple of years - one school lost 5 this year (4 in one crash), although luckily DD's school hasn't had any (yet). It's been really tough. Thanks for sharing.
Anne - Eating is a good thing! :thumbsup2
Mel - Glad the foot is healing!
I did 2.7 miles yesterday - walked the entire 1st mile just to see what my pace was (glad I'm not doing the full or half since apparently I'm not ready for that yet!), then did another 1.5 this morning. Saw my doc on Wednesday and he told me to decrease my mileage for the sake of my shins - not what I wanted to hear when I was trying to increase, but I decided to try his advice and see how it worked. This morning they were hurting after the first 1/2 mile, so I took it really easy and came home much earlier than I wanted to. I know I should have skipped today, but I have to run in the mornings when I don't have to work!
Anyone watching the Tour? Although it's not quite the same this year...

Hi! :wave2:
Can I join the WISH team too? I'm registered for the half. This will be my first race. I'm a beginner who is just hoping to finish in the required amount of time. Earlier this year I began a walk/run program. I injured my shins, went to the doctor and took over a month off until they felt better. I think I pushed myself too fast. I'm beginning again and think I'll start with a walking program. Any suggestions for not hurting my shins again? I'm going to a specialty running store later this week to get a new pair of shoes. I hope they will be able to help me pick the right kind for me. Any advice on what to look for from all the experts here?

To steal a line from Kevin...total drive-by here!
But I just had to stop in and tell you all something.....
:cheer2: :thumbsup2  I ran for eleven minutes this morning!!! :woohoo: :thumbsup2 :cheer2:
And I know why.....I had my new W.I.S.H. socks on!! :Pinkbounc  :cool1:
For those of you who are new...as pathetic as this sounds, I had ACL replacement surgery last August and spent three months in a walking brace. I still do wear a brace for barn work, but I remember a time, not that long ago, when I could hardly walk at all....
Hey, I felt something strange this morning...I think it was called...I'M PROUD OF MYSELF! :goodvibes

I did my 4 miler this a.m. 14:15 pace :cool1: I was excited considering I haven't been back at it that long & I went out later than expected so it got HOT quick :sunny:
Judy :cheer2: You should be proud of yourself!!!! That is awesome!!! WTG :thumbsup2
K- of course you can join. We welcome everyone to our little (getting bigger every day :goodvibes ) group. When I registered for the 2006 race I had never done a race before either. Watch out, its addicting. I have now done WDW 1/2, Minnie 15k & heading to DL for the 1/2. And I'm just one of many that is addicted to WDW races :teeth: As for your shins, start out slow. Do not increase your speed or mileage too fast or you will re-injure them. You may want to ice them after your wogs & stretching will help too. You should be just training to train right now so take it easy so you can do Jan. injury free!
Anne- yes, you should definately eat before wogging!
Well off to take the kids to the pool. Have a great weekend everyone!

Ok, there's just no way I am going to ever be able to catch up with last week's thread since i was away. So, I am starting with you guys on this one!
Mel - glad your foot is doing better!
Anne - eating is definately a good thing. I wog so much better if I eat breakfast first on the weekends, then wait a little while and go out to wog. On days I don't have much time and I wog without eating, I am totally drained.
Sunny - Way to go for both your DS & DD! Thanks for sharing your styrofoam cup story - how sad. I don't remember losing any fellow students in HS. Now it seems like you hear these awful stories all the time. I am going to have a stroke when Zack hits high school. :sad2:
Jackie - take care of those shins!
K - :welcome:
Judy - 11 minutes is awesome!!! Even though I've been at this since January, I still cannot run more than 1-2 mins at a time! You are the woman! :worship: Somehow, my WISH socks did not have them same effect... :scratchin
TiffJ - great job on your 4 miler!

Here's my 5K report:
I woke up early, kind of nervous (I am a worry wort). The temps were already pushing the 80's with high humidity and a big storm was moving in. When we left the house it started sprinkling, but that didn't last long. All it did was add more thickness to the air. I got to the park and got my shirt. Did some warm up sprints with my 5 y.o. that thinks she is a star runner. Did some stretching and waited around. I think there were over 100 people combined for both the 5K and 10K race. The 10Kers were FAST!! WE started late, but that was OK. I started out slow and even passed someone early, but that was the only time. We had to do 2 laps of the park. The first lap was hard, my knees ached and the air was so thick and humid. At Mile 1 the person calling out the times was in my running club... 12:31... oh that is good for me. So I kept trudging on. I was trying to keep a 6:1 run to walk. Shortly after 1 mile I met my DH and girls, they handed me some gatoraid because they are so cute. I took a swig but it made my tummy hurt. So I round out to finish lap one when this 12 year old kid came FLYING by me. He was in the 5K also, but was on his second lap. He WON the race at 17 minutes something... he was TWELVE!!!! So that got me riled. I kept running and didn't even know my brother showed up to watch. Good thing I was running when he saw me, or he would never let me live that down. I met the kids again 1/2 way through the race and DH got CUTE pic of my DD3 handing me somthing to drink. Kept on jogging. Lap 2 went much better, but I think my pace was too fast. So instead of stopping, CHRISTA popped in my head telling me to slow my pace down... so I did. I was able to keep jogging. When I was rounding out the final stretch, a guy came flying up behind me finishing his 10K (yes the same time I was finishing my 5K), and yelled out, "GREAT FINISH" to me. It brought tears to my eyes. What a nice thing to say to a chubby newbie runner. So I ran through the finish line with brother, DH and girls watching. I finished 2 minutes slower (41) than my last 5K, but the heat and humidity were tough this time. I am just proud that I finished.
I was in shock at how fast some of these people ran. They were running 10K's in 30-40 minutes and 5K's in less than 20 minutes. WOW!! But I didn't finish last again... there were several behind me. And I even passed one of those people!!
Now I am off to start increasing distance for the 10K I might be doing in early September.
I have to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the WISH'ers that have kept me going. I would have given up long ago if it wasn't for all of you. I still have 40+ pounds to lose, but even with that I am running. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Once I get the pics off the Digi camera, I will post a couple so you can see me!

Jen, :cool1: AWESOME job!!! What time did the race start that the temp was already 80??? Good grief!!! I would have had a melt down. You did such a good job!! :cheer2: :cheer2: Can hardly wait to see the pictures!
Kristi and Tiffj, Hope I see you before the start of DL, cause with those times, I ain't gonna be seein' you during!! :rotfl: Keep it up!!
Judy, WOW! Fantastic!! and with the kids there you are still putting in the steps!
Jackie, Have you NOT been reading Dave's saga with the shins??!!! Be careful! I don't remember you having trouble with them after the Minnie..did you, though?
K, :wave2: Good to see you here! Yes, trying to start too fast too soon will get you injured. Getting a good pair of shoes is an essential. We definitely have some experienced people here who can advise you on what to look for. Here's one site you might want to check out in the meantime: http://walking.about.com/cs/shoes/a/shoeguide.htm. What program are you following?
Sunny Oh, I am sooooo glad you and DS had a great time! Sorry about the steroids not doing the trick, though. I hope this ends for you soon. Congrats to DS on getting his orange belt! YOU and DD are doing the Irongirl??!! Like in a week??!! PLEASE, PLEASE be careful (I know that's a dumb thing to say about an Iron-anything..)!!
DH and I managed 8 hours out of the house yesterday...by ourselves. Of course, one of the things we did was to go to a bookstore. I keep trying to get us to follow the rule, "For every new book you buy, you have to get rid of one.)..siiigghhh..it won't ever happen :sad2: . I picked up Jeff Galloway's new books, one on running and one on walking, just to see what he says.
Sheesh, if I'd known I was going to be posting this much, I would have saved my Fourth of July picture! :lmao: Anne

Sunny -- Congrats to DS on the orange belt! :thumbsup2 Wait till I tell Howard! He'll be so proud of your son. :teeth: Someday, he'll say he knew him "when"
Judy -- I am so blown away! Your running is absolutely beyond impressive! :cool1: You'll be blowing by us on the 1/2 course come January. Youd' better slow down for your scream team members on the sidelines. I will NEVER, NEVER forget seeing Carrie and others along the route and getting such an adrenaline charge from hi-fiving them. Thanks again, Carrie! I can't wait to support all our WISH 1/2ers come that wonderful Saturday in January. Glad to see you are all building up a pace cushion so you can pause for pix!
Anne you are doing great! You'll have plenty of time for pix!
Jen -- great job, Hon! You must have felt so proud of yourself!
Kristi -- Your pacing has been awesome! Congrats! :grouphug:
Mel -- So glad to hear you are not overdoing it and are seeing great progress! YEAH!!!
Jackie -- Please, please, take it easy. Don't take yourself out of an event by overdoing on the training. I have learned the hard way that overdoing it can really mess up training. Listen to your body! :goodvibes:

Anne - Oh, I've been following Dave's shin saga. I had similar problems before the Minnie and didn't train for an entire month before the race. Then things were fine, and now I have pain on and off - no real consistency, sometimes I can do 3-4 miles and be fine, sometimes 1-2 miles brings on a week of pain. Jen hears Christa's voice when she runs; I hear Dave's!
Jen - GREAT job on your 5K. That's terrific that you were able to do that time in all the heat. Isn't it crazy to have WISHers in your head while you're running? I had the same experience in my last 5K!
Judy - I'm proud of you too! Eleven minutes is great.
Momoftwogirls - :welcome: This is a great group. I've had shin problems too. Make sure you get good shoes, start SLOW, and ice often. My doc also told me to take Aleve before and after I run. I added miles too quickly the first time around and ended up with way too many weeks off, and thought I was okay this time but apparently am not.
I have to work tomorrow, but am hoping to run again Tuesday AM. It's supposed to be in the 90's again all week, so early morning is the only chance to get outside and be able to breathe!

Congratulations Jen
I really appreciate your comment that a 40 minute 10K runner would congratuate you for finishing the 5K in the same time AND MEAN IT. This is one of the finest moments and traditions of 2 of my passions, soccer and running.
Some years ago when current 21 year old daughter was 15 and playing soccer in high school I took her with me to play with our College's mens' varsity in an out of season friendly kick around. Lesley fussed and squawked, saying she couldn't possibly stay on the field with College age and quality men, blah, blah, blah. I told her (in a fairly direct tone) that players are players, they respect anyone who loves their game, and the guys would welcome her on the pitch just as they welcome any player. Lesley was skeptical, but sure enough, her dad knew what he was talking about, and the guys treated her like any other player, to the point that one even collided with her and landed on her, squash, when they got tangled up. When Lesley and the young man both popped up laughing the point was made so clearly that a teenage girl learned a valuable lesson.
For so many who are new to the running game, their greatest fear is being looked down on or laughed at when they step onto the course. It makes me smile to know that your realized first hand that this absolutely is not true. You entered, participated, and got around the course.
Congratulations. Next time it will be a whole lot easier, both physically and mentally.
July is here. I can see the starting corrals at 5:45 a.m. on January 7 in my mind. I cannot wait.

Well its been a few days but our PT on Friday didn't involve much running so there wasn't much to say.
This morning instead of a boring long run my wife and I went over to the local high school track for a speed workout as a change of pace... Ended up running 1x800m 1x600m 1x400m 1x200m, while trying to increase our pace and lower our half lap splits each time. It was her first time in forever doing a track workout, and she was still averaging just over 2 min per lap pretty much steady through them all! That's 8 min mile pace and she ran a 5k last week at over 10 min per mile so I was quite impressed.
Meanwhile I nearly died trying to impress her, for some reason I can't seem to maintain any kind of "training pace" and always just go flat out, with the mindset I have to be setting some kind of PR for it to be worth it and not be a failed attempt. I was doing something like 6:30 pace for the sprints, although in that same 5k I was closer to 8:30 per mile.
We seem to be pretty close together when it comes to how out of shape we are, we just add 2 minutes to her splits to get mine, and weight wise we add 30 pounds. She's down to 165 and I'm down to 195, both of us losing 5 pounds since we started keeping track two weeks ago. So far so good! (I say this as we reward ourselves by chowing down on a meat lovers from Pizza Hut while watching Pinnochio, the 2nd movie in our quest to watch all the full length animated features chronologically) How dorky are we? :happytv:
Next up the 5k in downtown Pensacola on the 4th of July! pixiedust:

Hi Everyone! :wave2:
I missed last weeks thread and may miss a lot this week too. This is the busiest time of year for me at work and usually by the time I get home, I don't want to look at the computer. After the next two weeks, things should be on cruise control. :Pinkbounc
Tiff and Jen and Maherae - Congrats!
Maherae - I had the same problem at the Goofy this year. I wanted to stop and take pix, but was afraid the sweepers would catch me. Hopefully, I'll be a little faster for the 2007 Goofy.
K - Welcome to the group!
Mel - Glad to hear the foot is feeling better.
Sunny - Congrats to ds for his orange belt. I have a 1st degree red belt in Tae Kwan Do. Unfortunately, due to family, health and time issues I had to take a break. t's been 2 years since I've done any regular training. I'm going back to my class in Sept. My next test will be for Black Belt. I have a lot of catching up to do :bitelip:
I'm hoping to start doubling up my workouts. I'll either be at the gym or track in the morning and for the next three weeks I'll be riding my spinner at night for cross-training (gotta love the Tour de France :teeth: ). Both last night and tonight I jumped on my spinner for at least an hour and rode "with" the tour. I did this last year too and it really helped keep me on schedule. Anything that keeps the motivation going! :thumbsup2
I'll check in when I can! Happy training!

Terri- I didnt realize you were going Goofy again :thumbsup2
Hope work calms down for you soon! DS loves the Tour de France & hopes to participate someday. We watched some yesterday, he's cheering for George Hincape (sp?) because he was on Lance's team & is his friend. We have to Tivo everything about Lance for him. :goodvibes
Matt- Wow- you guys are doing all that & think you are out of shape  I think both your times are awesome :cool1: And dont injure yourself trying to impress DH, I'm sure she thinks you're pretty great already. WTG on the WL for both of you!
Craig-good to hear from you again
Anne- you are soooo funny :lmao:
Jen- great job on the 5k, the heat & humidity can really mess with your performance. I went out about 20 min later than I planned yesterday & boy did I regret it towards the end of my run. We've only had highs here of around 97-100 :sunny: and big time humidity. I'm going to have to start going out at 3:00 a.m. :teeth:

Hi, everyone! I am sitting here at work dreading getting up early tomorrow to do the 5K. I did 4miles Friday night so I sort of analyzed how I feel this morning, trying to determine how I am going to feel by the time the second 5K rolls around, Thursday evening. I think I'll be okay. I have Anne's little voice in my head, reminding me to stretch and take my aleve. One other thing I haven't had to worry about that much which will be a huge factor tomorrow is the heat and humidity. It may even be raining when we start out. Thank God I have my BRIGHT yellow Disney 1/2 marathon rain jacket! I actually wouldn't mind having an excuse to wear it. I wish it had the logo on the back so that people behind me could see that I've finished a 1/2. HAH!! I just realized that I'm an optimist -- assuming there will be people behind me to see anything on the back of my jacket!
To everyone doing Independence Day 5Ks, good luck and have fun!

Phil and I got a babysitter for the boy yesterday and did an 8 mile trail run. It was really good. I had done that trail once before and thought it was really tough b/c of all of the hill climbs. I felt really good yesterday. I used a HRM and kept my heart rate in what felt like a good zone. I felt much stronger than last time and I was sure my time would be better. I was actually 3 minutes slower!!!! Oh well, I wasn't as tired on the trail and the run felt good! I also rode the single speed on a trail this weekend. It was really fun. I learned to keep my arms loose, as it has a ridgid fork. I couldn't ride all of the hills. I think I had to walk in about 3 spots. I am not very good at fast downhill. If i would be brave and just let go, I would have more momentum for the uphill. Maybe next time.
Sunny - tell the little man congratulations! That is wonderful! Sorry the steriods aren't helping much. That is cool that you and your DS are doing one of the irongirl events together. That sounds like fun!
Judy - Wow! ELEVEN MINUTES!!! That is great!
Mel - I'm so glad you had a little relief!
Jen - Way to go on your 5k!
Matt - good luck w/ your 5k tomorrw. I am doing one too. It is really hilly and mostly on a gravel road and I'm pushing the boy in the stroller so I'm not expecting any personal records!
Terri - spinning during the tour is a great idea! I don't even know what network it is on. I'll have to check my guide. I'm totally rooting for George too! He won a stage last year. I would love to see him win this year.

I'm still without my personal laptop, so I apologize for anything I missed from last week's thread.
Mel - Great to hear your foot is improving. :wizard: for staying injury free.
Sunny - That is an absolutely terrible story!! Congrats to DS. Glad you're enjoying your time-off.
Momoftwogirls - WELCOME!! We love our family expanding. You'll get lots of great advice here. There are all abilities represented and we are all happy to share info. The running store sounds like a great place to start.
Jackie - Please listen to the good doctor :) I know how tempting it is to "squeeze" a run in but better safe than sorry. Your shins will thank you.
Judy - WTG!! :cheer2: You're doing awesome. You should be oh so VERY proud of yourself.
Tiff - Great pace!! :woohoo: You'll be flying at DL.
Kristi - Great job on the DL training! :rotfl2: about all of the really bad food on the Boardwalk.
Jen - Loved the race report!! Congrats!! Definitely heart-warming  You're killing me with the commentary on your 5-yo, as I have one of those too :rotfl: !!
Anne - Glad you and DH were able to escape for a while. The bookstore is SO tempting!
Matt - :rotfl2: Thanks so much for the Monday Morning Funny with the visual of your trying to impress the Mrs.!! Glad you guys had a good track workout and enjoyed the reward afterward.
Terri - Best of luck surviving the busy season and for the twice-a-days. At least you have the tour to motivate you. I love watching running programs while I'm on the treadmill.
Heather - Thanks for wondering where I've been...
It was a busy weekend for me. I ran 14 miles on Saturday and then was a race volunteer both Saturday and Sunday for a local 10 mile race in my hometown of Lake George, NY. It was a lot of fun to cheer on the 500 runners. I hope to volunteer for another of my running club races real soon. Today I ran 6 miles and I am going to the Y with DH to lift weights this afternoon. DS turns 16 on the 5th and DD turns 9 on the 10th. We're having a combined party this afternoon.
Best of luck to all with training and meeting goals this week. Happy 4th and Happy Canada Day to our northern friends!!

Sara - Bummer 'bout the lap top! Glad tou could check in!
k - Welcome!!!!
Sunny - Congrats to ds and hugs to dd! That's so hard.
Jen - COngratulations. DH and I were scheduled to do 5 Saturday,m but it was so humid, we did 3. Still was awful. Cool taht the 10k'er congratulated you. RUnner/walkers/wogger are genearally very cool about that stuff. Haveing a Boston MArathonm runner ask me how I liked a 5-miler was amazing.
Mel - Hope your drama with dd and docs is getting better!!!
Cam - You guys do waaaay too much! Good luck tomorrow!
MelR - Glad you culd get some quality training time with dh. ;)
Matt - That's precisely why I make such a good anchor for dh. he can't go all out and has stuff left in the end of long runs. :teeth:
We did 3 Saturday and then walked 3 that night. Back on teh boardwalk. Almost had another sandal disaster as I did not wear walking shoes to dinner. Luckily, dh was paying attention when I said, "We'l get blown off the boardwalk and I was kill my fee." No one else did. So, went home, got decent shoes and walked 3. AMde me feel better after I shortened the am run. DH and I have decided that we are no longer pushing LRs to MOnday if we are gone. We are back to packing running gear again. I'm hoping it will help fo rme to run on what tends to be my best day again.
Happy 4th everyone!

Sara - I have a 5 and 3 year old. WOW are those trying ages. They say the darndest things tho! I had to re-instate the rewards sticker chart just to get them to behave and stop fighting. And the attitude that a 5 year old can throw is amazing. My 5 yo is a princess and the 3 year old is a rough and tumble who is obscessed with Snow White. Last fall at WDW she saw Snow White in a parade and broke out into tears screaming "I Want HER!!!, I Want to take her home!!". She was in histerics every time we saw Snow White. OH and then we got a suprise package left in our room for each girl from a cast member and Kate's had an autographed pic of Snow White.
OK, that was totally off Topic.
I need to run tonight, but the weather looks like rain. And it is unbelieveably humid again, until the rain comes. That is if it comes. After my run we are planning a back yard campfire and fireworks at home.
Happy 4th to all the US WISHERS!

Hi guys!
I ran my last LR last night in preparation for my half marathon in Calgary, Canada this weekend. I went out at 8:10 p.m. hoping that it would be cooler, but NOOOO, it was 90 F when I started and then 85 F when I finished my 8 miles. Calgary gets a cool air off the Rocky Mountains at night so the 7:00 a.m. start should be about 50 F. Oooh, can't wait for that!
We are flying up to Canada on Wednesday and will be gone for 3 weeks. I will try and check in periodically and will give a full report of my race when I get back.
Oh, one last thing, I ran my 8 miles in my new orthotics. They aren't feeling 'great' yet, but I can see they have the potential to really help with my hammer toe and ITBS. :teeth:
Sara, great job on your 14 miles! It is great that you are finding the time to cross train too!
Christa, and all you swimmers, I think that is a wonderful way to cross train. I really think it would really help my running. I am going to add that after my summer vacation. Oh, and Christa, girlfriend, a sub 9 minute mile over 11 miles!!! You rock!! :cool1:
MelR, congrats on your new bike. It's sweet! I envy that you and Phil are able to do those adventure/trail runs together.
Jen, congrats on your 5K. Do you have another race planned?
Cam, Matt and everyone else running races tomorrow, good luck! :cheer2:
Anne, tell us how you like the Jeff Galloway book.
Jackie, good luck getting that run in tomorrow. Today is frightfully hot. :sunny: I think it is 95 now. I took the kids to the grocery store and they couldn't even stand being in the parking lot. :rolleyes2
Judy, good job on your 11 minutes of running. You will be doing a nice run/walk ratio before you know it. :Pinkbounc
Mel, I am happy to hear your foot is doing better. Go girl!
Tiff, yeah for your 4 miles. That is great since you were just coming off your VBS week. Those are exhausting!! :hyper: I really needed time to wind down after ours.
Not sure if I will be able to post again before our trip, so healthy training everyone for the month of July!!

Just a quickie- Mel R, if you booked direct with Disney and a code comes out next year, you can apply it to your booking anyway. That's what I did last year.
Not much else for me today, had to read the post quickly as I'm supposed to be working but am procrastinating on here, but well done Judy, that's cool. I'm plodding along, did 80 minutes Saturday but have to take next weekend off so won't go up to 90 minutes until the 13th, still I'm ahead of my official programme so no big issues with that.Oh well I suppose I can't put work off any longer, Helen

Hi to all! I am a newbie here and SO excited to find this part of the DIS board!
I am training right now for the Disney Triathlon in September and then the Marathon in January! We were at DW last year and saw the marathon and I promised DH that I would be there doing it in 07.
A little about me: I am married and have three kids. One born to us and two who made a small detour through South Korea. Our newest daughter just arrived home this May and is 6. I am thankful for this training as it is my me thing. I used to be in great shape, but the stress from the adoptions and some health issues really slowed me down. I have been seriously training for only two weeks, but it feels so good.
I just got an awesome new bike that I am so excited about! It will definitely help my bike time. I rode it for the first time last night and had so much fun!
Tonight is a running night. I have asthma and am re-building my lungs and HR so I have been going 2/2 R/W. I am hoping to do more running tonight although it is humid and hot. We'll see. I had a while of creating a very negative attitude for myself, so every time I get out there and do something is a victory.
So excited to join you all!

Good Luck to all the 4th of July racers tomorrow!
I'll be thinking of you while I am at work. :(
Quick check in: today was my "stretch & strengthen" day. I didn't really have time to do anything since I worked, napped, then had swim class with Zack at the Y at 5:30pm. So, I am going to count swim as my strength & stretching. I didn't realize how hard it was going to be to hold him up to do all his "swimming." Well, it wasn't that hard, but I am still counting it! :teeth:
It is way past my bedtime...

Exactly one month ago today (6/3), my aunt (mom's sis) past away from stomach cancer. She and Mom were very close, so Mom took it hard. I've been keeping my eye on her and she just started getting back to her normal self. Tonight my uncle (Mom's brother) passed away. :sad1:
He had health issues, but up until this past weekend, was doing ok. We saw him yesterday and he didn't look good. Got a call tonight that he passed.
Now Mom is a wreck all over again. We'll spend the next few days making arrangements for him, since we're his closest family (he had no kids and wife died years ago).

What can I say, HHH - HOT HAZY HUMID. Temp was 79º to start and with the humidity it felt like 93º. My Sunday run 5 1/2 mile was definitely a LSD run. Ran a 10:27/mile pace. This was a good run, the heart rate stayed pretty much in check with an average of 144bpm.
My tip for the week.
Let your heart be your virtual trainer. There are 3 distinct training zones, Base, Threshold & Speed/Hill. Training inside these zones will not only assist you from completing your training session but also will allow you to train to the optimum efficiency.
Base - intensity should be 65-75% of your maximum heart rate.
Threshold - between 75-85%
Speed/Hill - between 85+%.
Use your heart to determine what is optimum. Your heart rate monitor tells you how hard your heart is working in beats per minute which gives you a precise view of what's happening inside your body. With this being said working out at the correct exercise intensity is the only way to achieve your fitness goals.
Put simply:
Too hard = injury, muscle soreness = can't finish workout
Too easy = no improvement or results = will not reach fitness goals.
How to determine what your Max Heartrate is.
The most common method is:
220 subtract age - Using this method my max heartrate is 180.
My training zones would be
B = 117-135 bpm
T = 135-153 bpm
S/H = 153-180bpm
My prefered method is devolped by ally Edwards, an expert and author in heart rate training.
Males:
210 - 1/2 your age - 1% of your total body weight + 4 = Maximum Heart Rate
Females:
210 - 1/2 your age - 1% of your total body weight + 0 = Maximum Heart Rate
So for me my Max is 192.2
My training zones would be
B = 125-144 bpm
T = 144-163 bpm
S/H = 163-192bpm
There are a ton of links and resources on the net.
I have one question how do they corel everyone. I know that they ask for proof of finish if under 5hrs. Does this put you in the front corel or is there more than 2 corels?
Cheers

Terri - lots of :wizard: and :grouphug: for you!
Robb - I feel your HH humidity pain...My times suffered there too when I ran. I have to say I am glad to hear it wasn't just me.
Bekah - :welcome: to this crazy group! :cheer2:
I have come to a conclusion..now hear me out...I think I do better with hills (up and down) than flat. This is for running and biking. I think the down hills help me get the speed up for the up hills (this is mainly true for biking.) With flat, I have to always work equally hard. So can I say, the hills make me a better runner (an biker)! :confused3
I did a mini brick workout today. Biked around 14 miles (in 45 min) and then ran a little over a mile. (You can see where the "mini" comes from.) Was going to go further but the fam got up earlier than expected and they were all waiting for me to make "Mickey Waffles" for them. So I told them I had to do at least 1 mile and they said they could wait 10 more min...I finished in 8. :woohoo:

Sorry I haven't been on the boards lately. Saturday I ended up going to a flea market with my husband, mother, and step-father.....that took up most of the day but it was fun.
Sunday - I just started to dust off my summer clothes and yesterday after work I was so pooped I didn't get any running done (I was the only admin on yesterday).

Terri -- I am sorry for you and your whole family. sending a hug to you and your mom.
Robb -- Thanks for all the info. I can't bring myself to do the heart monitor thing again. For 10 years, I had to monitor my HR at least 10 times a day. Sometimes it was way too fast to count, and even shut down some medical equipment when it got over 225 bpm. At some point, I am going to have to pay attention to it again, so I am absorbing all you are teaching. Thanks!
Well, the 5K was very hot and very humid and they changed the course on me. I was very unhappy with uneven terrain and hills that I can only see once I have to climb them. My shuffle wouldn't turn on this morning. So, I took my ipod which I forgot to turn on. I paused to start it and then it died about 1/2 way through and I tried to re-start it. UGH! I really depend on the music beat. It is "frozen" and I will have to figure it out before THursday night's 5K. Garmin said 3.2 miles in 47:20 (14:47). If the course was really 5K my pace was 15:14. Big difference.
Have a great 4th all! I am going to enjoy my day off with a book in the air conditioning. :teeth:

Yup, I got out there this morning. DH said it wasn't too hot... yah, but there was also no shade!!!! So I ran in the sun for 2.5 miles. Not a lot, but enough to make me happy. I keep thinking it is Saturday and I should be running farther.... but it isn't so I can do what I want. I also noticed that I run better when I'm not under pressure. My run this morning was really good. I jogged the whole thing except for 1 block in the middle of it and my warm up. Baffles me, I think I get nervous in races and start out too fast. Oh well, it's the experience.
Have a great 4th everyone!

The boy did his first race this morning. He did 1/2 mile and did it in just over 6 mins! He was GREAT. I will post a pic later. He got a race #, t-shirt (that actually fits and looks just like ours) and a full goody bag w/ some great stuff in it!
Phil placed 3rd in his age w/ a time of 22 something (that was his 1st 5k ever) and boy and I place 1st in the stroller division (not a big shock) I'm not sure of my time but it was over 30mins. I think i was more like 10min miles or over but I didn't run really hard and the boy and I stopped 3 times for him to get water. We had a great morning! Of course, I wore my socks!

Thanks for the prayers and PD. I have a question that is very OT, but I figured if anyone can answer it, someone here can.
I'm trying to find a logo for the US Navy. I'm doing up the program for my Uncle's funeral. I'm using a photo of him and since he served 20 years in the Navy, I wanted to include the logo. I can't find one. I went to the US Navy website and captured a small round Dept. of navy "seal" kinds logo. But I thought there was something with an anchor.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

You should be able to grab a logo off of this page: http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=images&imgsz=all&imgc=&vf=&va=navy+logo&fr=FP-tab-web-t400&ei=UTF-8
The one that I most commonly have seen was the third image in (My dad was a navy man).

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am so excited about finding this - DH thinks I am a little crazy, but at least he understands my Disney obsession. ;)
I did get out and run last night - pushing DS in the jogger and with DD riding her bike with me. I think I need to take DS more often - whenever I walked he would say "Run! One, two three!" LOL I did pretty well for pushing the stroller, I think.
Today is my rest day and I am swimming tomorrow.
Melissa - I loved your picture! That is so cool!

Kind of drive-by here but I have to send my well-wishes out to Colleen before she takes off to Canada!!
Colleen - Best of luck on your half-marathon this weekend. Enjoy the time with your family. Travel safe.
Terri - My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
Bekah - Welcome!! We're glad you've decided to join us.
Christa - :rotfl2: About the Mickey waffles for your girls. We've always got the Mickey chocolate chip peanut butter pancakes going on over at our house. Yummy!!! Rolling hills work well for me too...
Robb - I really should strap on the heart rate monitor again. Thanks so much for the info.
MelR - Loved the pics of the boy. Way too sweet. Congrats to both him and Phil.
4 miles for me this a.m. on sore legs. I still need to do three sets of 15 full-body pushups before I go to bed. I keep putting it off (hence, why I am on the computer!!) :confused3 I hate the pushups but love the results :cool1:

Just another quickie post - tonight I ran 3 miles on the threadmill (I hope over next weekend to make it back outside for runs).
Today - I also registered for two events:
1 - The 5k Ice Cream Run,Dave I'm not sure if I ever answered your question, at the end of the race they serve you Ice Cream. (August)
2- Is the Bigelow Tea 5k race. The headquarters of Bigelow Tea is in Connecticut. (September)
I hope to find a 10k to do at some point before my half marathon in October.....I would like to get as much practice in as I can running with other people - I always feel the pressure to run as fast as everyone else, instead of running my own speed (something I really need to work on - so that I don't end up really hurting myself).
Have a good night everyone!

Melissa - GREAT picture! He is SO cute.
I gave up on the idea of running this morning. I looked at the forecast, and the combination of temp and heat index erased any hopes of beating the heat unless I was outside by 5:30 or 6:00, and it's a holiday so that seemed really unfair. But I did get on the bike tonight while I watched "The Capitol Fourth," so I managed 34:00 before the fireworks! (Would have used Terri's idea of riding with the Tour, but I watched the morning coverage and already knew how it turned out today.) The heat here is supposed to ease by Thursday - hooray!

Hi guys - just a flying post to say to Cam - the freezing thing seems to be an ipod issue, they don't seem to like running. I know three people it's happened to, it works fine 'stationary' but when they start running they freeze up. Sadly because of daft New Zealand policy where they'll charge you $100 to look at it - even if it's under warranty - which you don't get back if the ipod isn't faulty (???!!!, it doesn't work, how can it not be faulty, but apparently their definition is different to ours) no-oen has bothered finding out why - it's cheaper to buy a budget MP3 player for running instead. If you do find out why it does it though, let me know and I can tell them all.
Well it's running club night tonight, have to do 10km, and I should really be donning my trainers about now, but my office is nice and warm, and outside isnt! Anyway, that's my lot, other than to send my condolences to Terri. Helen

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:
I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. We had a fun time camping. The princesses princess: princess: really enjoyed it. We ended up coming home a day early - as I was having allergy attacks and the weather wasn't great. But we all had a good time.
OK, yesterday I went to our high school track and alternated walking and jogging laps. I did 2.08 miles in 30.11 min. The walking felt OK, my right shin was still sore when I jogged on it. But I kept it really slow (just felt like I was shuffling along) and tried to keep it under the threshold of irritation. Each lap I jogged felt a little better than the last. I think I am going to do the deep water running again today to let my leg recover. I'm going to take it really slow and easy so I can get myself ready to train at the end of August.
I had a dream last night that I ran the WDW Marathon. It was kind of strange though because I had to just go down, run, and come back. I didn't have any time to meet any of our team when I was down there. And I kind of felt like I was sneaking in and sneaking out.
OK, I'm going to try to catch up with everyone now.

Hi TEAM, just trying to catch up on posts:
OK, the exchange between Anne and Jackie had me rolling. :rotfl2: I didn't realize my shin saga had such wide reaching implications. I wish I didn't have a shin saga...

Judy Awesome job running for 11 min!!! :thumbsup2 :cool1: Come close, here's a secret. You are a runner girl!
Jen Great job on your 5K. Isn't it nice to be part of the running community now? Sounds like you had a great experience at your race.
Sunny Thanks for posting your story about the cups. It really moved me. You are a really special person to paint and put back all those styrofoam cups.
Kristi Great job on your training while on vacation. Good for you! Mmmm, boardwalk food... Sorry, the socks aren't speeding you up. Boy, I thought I ordered the extra fast socks - maybe I sent you the wrong pair. Or maybe the PD settled off of them during shipping.
Craig Good to "see" you. I always enjoy your well written posts.
Matt Your track workout with your DW was impressive. WTG! :thumbsup2
Sara Sounds like you got a great workout in, and the race at Lake George sounds like fun. That's such a beautiful area. We used to take the family there when we were in Vermont. We need to get back over there - I always liked it a lot.
Carrie Glad you didn't tear your feet up again walking in sandals.
Colleen I can't wait to hear how your half marathon went. Here's hoping you have fun with your sisters. I liked your "mommy is a better mommy when she gets exercise". I need to use that line with my princesses.
Robb Thanks for the info on heart rate. Maybe I should get a heart rate monitor sometime.
Cam Good job getting out there for your hot and humid 5K. Sounds like it wasn't the best race you've ever had - with your frozen iPOD and all. But at least you were out there doing it. Good luck with the race on Thursday. Take it easy.
Christy Sorry to hear about your ankle sprain. Here's PD :wizard: :wizard: hoping you get back out there soon.
MelR Wow, what a fun race it sounds like you had with your family. Thanks for posting pictures of the boy. It looks like he was having a great time running like his Mom and Dad.
Jodi A race where you get ice cream at the end?!? Wow, sign me up!!! I'll hobble through that one anyday!

Well I was able to get my sr in yesterday before the heat. Did 3 miles but I was not happy with my pace 14:50 inlc warm up . I kept getting interupted so I would lose my groove (neighbors talking or unplanned potty break) But at least I got in the steps. Today is xt. Yea, dont have to worry about the heat, the gym has A/C!
Dave-glad you had fun camping. The campgrounds around here are jam packed on the 4th so we wont go on holidays. So we poped up our camper & camped in the driveway. They boys love sleeping in there & I can run in the house for potty breaks :teeth: Hopefully we can get to an actual campground soon. Be careful with those shins. (and no skipping out on us in Jan :goodvibes )
MelR-that pic is so cute!

Melissa - The picture of the boy is absolutely adorable. How old is he, if you don't mind me asking?
Terri - I am so sorry for yours and your mothers loss.
Well. Happy belated Fourth of July everyone!! Sorry I have been MIA. For some reason I feel like such a bum. I only ran twice last week, on Thursday I ran 4.5 miles then on Saturday I did my LR of 6.5. I think my pace was a bit fast somehow I managed 1hr 2min 34sec. Last week for 6 miles my times was 1hr 16sec. So I guess that running with my mp3 player got me out of my pace. Anyone got any advice on how to keep an eye on my pace while I am running. I have the hardest time with that, and let me tell you my shins have let me know since then that I pushed to hard. As for this week.... here it is Wednesday and I haven't run AT ALL.
Monday I took the boys to Sea World. Left the house at 5am got back home at 1:30am.But we had an amazing time. Lucas (the 20month old) loved Shamu, that is until Shamu drenched him in water!! We stayed mainly to see the fireworks, and immediately regretted that decision as soon as they started. I guess maybe I am a bit spoiled by Disney fireworks, but let me tell you these blew big chunks. You couldn't hear the music unless you were right at the front, and they had so many HUGE trees surrounding the water area that you couldn't see any of the fireworks.
Then yesterday my Mom called and my Grandfather had to be taken to the hospital. He was working on the lawn mower a couple of days ago and messed up his back, and he hadn't been able to get out of bed for 3 days because it hurt so bad. So I had to meet her to help with that, then we had family coming over to our new house to celebrate the fourth. It has just been a couple of really busy days, so I have decided I am definately not running today. I'll go out tomorrow morning and then put in my 7 on Saturday. I guess 2 times a week isn't too bad huh? Not good enough, when I one day strive to run like Christa!! By the way if I forgot to mention it before. Great time on that 11 miles the other day. I can only dream of a time like that one day!!
Take Care,
Dana

Dana Hi Dana - Aaahhh, running too fast. I'm pretty sure that's what did it to my shins. ::yes:: Running an 8:21 mile (when I had been running 9:30-10:00 mpm) in a 5K essentially ruined my shins for the past month. How's the rest of your life going these days. Are you making progress with quitting smoking?

OK just a fair warning...I am in a foul mood today. I don't think I like my job anymore. It was a rough weekend. And I REALLY don't want to go on this trip next week. So...there.
But here's a good thing....Yesterday DH and I did the 5K that he did on Memorial Day. The roads are still marked so we stood on the Start line just like it was a real race. I wanted to see if I could do it, because it was not an easy course. LOTS of hills!! But, hey guess what...I DID IT! My Garmin said 42:55. I'm such a sap. I was crying as I crossed the finish line. There was no one around but DH. I know, I'm pathetic, but I was so thrilled that I did it! :yay:
And the most amazing part was I was not dead afterwards. I don't mean literally, I mean I was not sitting on the couch moaning in agony. I was OK. Gosh it felt good. :goodvibes
Now I'm looking for a local 5K to do. :bounce:
Sunny - Your Styrofoam cups story was heartwrenching. :sad2: How are you feeling today?
Tiff, Kristi, Anne, Cam, Jackie, Mel, Sara, Colleen, Christa, Carrie, Minnie, Helen, Terri, Dave - Thank you all so much for your really nice comments on my 11 minutes of running. I am just blown away by the awesome support and encouragement I get here. What a wonderful group this is! :goodvibes
Terri - Oh that is so sad.
Bekah - Welcome! :welcome: :disrocks:
Christa - Mickey waffles are a great motivator! They work for me! :teeth:
Kristi - Don't give up on the W.I.S.H. socks. Maybe yours just need to get warmed up a bit. :lmao:
Mel - OMG how cuuuute! The boy is adorable! And I love that you call him that. :teeth:
Jodi - Where is Bigelow in CT? Maybe I'll do that 5K. :rolleyes1
Dave - We went to the town pool yesterday and I gave deep water running a try. HOLY COW it is HARD! :earseek: Oh thank you so much for your "runner" comment. That means a lot to me. It really does.
OK I'm going to pretend I feel like working today.

Morning, all! Judy -- Awesome job on the 5K course! I would have been bawling right with you! But happy tears for you, not :sad1:
Mel-- The picture of DS is wonderful! How awesome for him to have finished a race with flying colors! SO glad they recognized all the kids with medals and tee shirts. Positive reinforcement at its best.
Maybe that is what I need. I was really disappointed to have done as poorly as I did yesterday but I am going to get over it by tomorrow night's race and try for a PR. If the ipod dies again, so be it. I won't fiddle with it. I'll just keep moving.
Official results -- 47:19 pace 15:16 (UGH!!!!) Finished 178/203 (still reassuring to know there are people behind me. Sad, I know, but true! ;) )
Just read that they changed the course for tomorrow night's event, too, and we will be going under a very long overpass (travelling in the direction of the road) which I dread -- first, because my garmin will lose its signal, and second, the road is not in good shape and there are pits and often debris. The fact that it is in the evening with those conditions makes me very leery (sp?). Oh, well, just have to get out there.
Tiff -- Your pace was awesome, especially since it included warm-ups and breaks in rhythm. :thumbsup2
Keep up the great training, everyone! You are keeping me motivated. Oh, that, and a a castle medal! :teeth:

Wow!! my DS5 says he wants to run the kids race at Disney, but I have no idea how to get him started, and I can't find much information about the kids race. Like how far the kids run, etc. I am hoping to get him started so we can both run our first races at Disney.

I have got to find a way to keep my pace at around 10min. That's where I usually am, but last week I got to run for the first time with music and I guess the beat of the music was faster so I ran faster!! Thankfully with lots of ice and rest they aren't hurting too bad today. The rest of my life is going pretty darn good, thanks for asking, and to top it all off I am still SMOKE FREE!! Almost 12 whole weeks without one. It still isn't easy, there are times (alot more lately) that I really think about bumming one from somebody. I don't do it though, I just tell myself that I wouldn't be able to stop at just one, and it would be really hard to quit again.

Cam - good luck tomorrow night!

Just back back from my scheduled 2 miles (w4/r1):

After a much extended absence, I'm back.....
It's pretty bad when you haven't posted in so long that you have to take notes on who to reply to. :guilty: I have been completely swamped since getting home from Toronto... if it wasn't work stuff jumping up at me, it was "family" obligations during the long weekend. (That's the thing about living so far from home... you sort of get adopted into other people's families... :rotfl: )
Anyhoo.....
Krista-- I was able to get some pretty good runs in during my time in TO. Our hotel was right near Queen's park and Provential Parliment, so that was a nice loop to run some mornings. Otherwise, I did a pretty good job of supplimenting with workouts in the fitness centre at the hotel. Between that and all the walking I did around the city, I don't think I really missed a beat.
Robb-- Welcome to our little group. I will make sure to get directions to the Running Room before I head to T.O. again. I did stop in at one running store downtown (the name of which fails me at the moment) and everyone there was wonderful. I was hoping to run TO Waterfront this fall, but unfortunately I have to be here to work that weekend. I hope to be back your way in October, if not sooner.
Matt-- Welcome!!
Bekah-- Welcome!!
Terri-- So sorry to hear about your loss. :grouphug:
Jen-- Great job on the 5K!! :thumbsup2
Judy-- Wow, talk about your training paying off. Congrats on both of your runs this week!! That's wonderful!
Dana-- Re race packets: While they say they will be mailed out in mid-October, most of us got them right around Thanksgiving last year. Unless, like Helen, you live in New Zealand and.... has she even gotten her packet yet?? :confused3
As for my training, I am doing OK. I have started to us the "I'm really busy" excuse for either shortening or skipping runs, which I really need to break myself of!! I'm hoping to get a good quality run of better than 4 miles in tomorrow morning. Only six weeks until official marathon training starts, so I want to make the most of them!! :thumbsup2
It also just dawned on me that my 180 ADR date is Friday , so I really should get on the ball with that....
Happy training all!

The training tips are great! As a newbie, I still am soaking in how to get going on this running thing. I did a 9 mile run at a 11:07 pace and then took 8 days off. Not a good training idea. I had to get my DS 11 ready for his 3 week trip to England so was way too busy to do any workout. On day 9 I did 5 miles, slowly and walked about 1/3. It hurt much more than the 9 mile. The last two days I'm back at 6 miles and it's feelin good. Now I just need to keep it up.
Judy - great job on your run, that it awesome!
Mel - your son is adorable. My DD7 and DS4 like to run with me on the track, it's a lot of fun.

A day late on the 4th of the July 5K report but hey, who's counting...
It must have been like lets see 234293487 degrees and approximately 2349802834 percent humidity for the start, give or take a few hundred million. First mile through downtown Pensacola was shaded and not too bad, but then came the two mile out and back along the beach where the sun was just BAKING on the hot pavement. Both the DW and I had our share of problems, but struggled through. Times were a bit depressing since we felt like we were working so hard, but they were both about 30 seconds slower than the times we ran last week (or was it the week before?) at the other 5k. We're telling ourselves it was the heat, or the course was a bit too long. ;) 26:03 for me and 32:26 for her. Ran another 2.5 miles or so at mandatory PT this morning, not a great idea after a hard 5K, and my shins/calves are real sore as a result.
Our next race is Aug 5th in Pensacola Beach, after a solid month of training she's hoping to break 30 for the first time ever, while I'd like to get back under 25. Then comes a 10k on labor day in Atlanta most likely, then the half marathon at Disneyland... My oh my July already? September is really creeping up!

Yeh Judy - plus, not only have you achieved 5k, you have also learnt one of the most important skills for running at WDW - how to run while sobbing. I don't think I'm alone in admitting to weeping as the race starts, when I ran through the castle, when (in my case) I came round the corner and finally saw Eyeore - who looked very frightened as I accelerated and flung my arms round him - and pretty much for the whole last mile, and man it messes with your breathing! Even now I tear up on training runs while thinking about it all - so, next week for you, 6k with compulsary weeping at the end of it. Helen

Guess who's registering for Race for the Taste? :woohoo:
DD13 has decided not to play club soccer this season so that she can play volleyball for her school. She's also decided to try out for the school boys soccer team because the girls team wasn't challenging enough :thumbsup2 All that means our fall weekends will be free and she wants to do Race for the Taste!
I did 30 min on the TM tonight...low and slow. I'm up to W7/R3, trying to come back slowly. The pod has released me so I'm clear for running again and it feels SO much better to be able to go, go, go! I can't wait to start training for the half!
Didn't we have some teammates running the Peachtree yesterday?
Judy...congrats on your 5K! Helen's right...the WDW half is a tearjerker
Matt...wtg to you and DW on your race! It's a tough time of year for racing!
Sonya...great pace! Tell us more about DS's trip to England!
Cam...is life settling down for y'all yet?
Christa...I know what you mean about confidentiality. There's a lot I can't tell about my day.
Kevin...welcome back!
Bekah... :welcome:
DD13 had her CT today so hopefully we'll have a final answer soon and we can put this all behind us. My aunt manages a urology practice in Ft Myers and had her pediatric urologist review the ultrasound. He said not to worry, but to go ahead and check it out. We'll just all feel better when we get the final report!
So hopefully the biggest question I'll have in the next couple weeks is...do I go to my high school reunion or not? :confused3

Greetings Team:
OK, I'm trying to emerge from my black lagoon this week. I attempted to alternate walking a lap and running a lap on the track again today. Actually I used the indoor track next to the pool at the gym so I walked 2 laps and ran 2 laps. The walking laps went fine, but the running laps were quite uncomfortable. I ended up doing about 10 minutes on the track, and then decided to put my swimsuit on, retreat to the black lagoon and swogged for 30 min. I'm trying to listen to my body and not injure myself further so I can train properly for the marathon. I'm getting nervous though. It's been 4 solid weeks of pool running, and my lower right leg still won't let me run.

Hi Judy,
Yes, Bigelow is headquartered in Southport,CT - That's where the race is. :goodvibes

OK, must admit I skimmed severely, so apologies to those I missed.
Terri - I am so sorry about all you've been through lately.
Judy - Woo hoo on the 5K!!!! :cool1:
Cam - We all have our off days. Put the last one behind you adn good luck tonight!!!!! :cheer2:
MelR - Awesome pic of the boy and awesome race! Give him my congrats! (Not that he has a clue who I am)
Kevin - Voice of experience here, "Get back on track!!!!!" Catching up is no fun!!!
Mel - Cool about Race for the Taste with DD!!! :wizard: For the CT results
Bekah - Welcome!!!
WOw, remebering weird dream of last night. I was back in HS at a track meet. I was telling coach and a friend about the marathon and trying to figure out how on earth I was going to run a 6 minute mile again. Breaking 90-second laps was tough. Yes, laughable these days when I am luck to break 11. :rotfl: Still trying to figure that one out.
Biked 13 tp 14 miles Tuesday night with a 49 pounds behind me in a trailer. DH had 49 + teh 4YO (30?) behind him. My db and I still had a hard time keeping up and he had no one. We've decided that next year dh gets all 3 and hopefully we can keep up. ;) DId I mention that was after 2.5 hours in the pool with the kids. ALmost good to be back today.
Hoping to do 3 tonight and start mandatory Saturday runs again.

Hi, everyone! Thanks so much for the encouragement for tonight.
Here I sit in my office with my garmin and my ipod charging and hoping it all comes together tonight.
I am feeling very pressured because 2 of my partners and DH are running this race and I am going to feel like a fool knowing they are waiting around 15 minutes or more for me at race end. I am hoping that will motivate me rather than bum me out. :confused3
Dave -- I am so sorry your shin is still giving you problems. I hope you are reassured knowing that you can walk as much as you need to at the marathon and still finish light years ahead of many, many people with a very satisfying bit of bling around your neck. ::MickeyMo
Life around here is calming a bit. DS is still away at his Johns Hopkins program and seems to be having a great time. DD17 had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled yesterday and had a rough evening but I am hoping today will be better for her. Thank God DH is home to take care of her!
I am planning to do my LW this weekend on Sunday because we are away tomorrow night and all of Saturday. Meeting some friends in Atlantic City to celebrate her birthday on Saturday, but we are going down tomorrow night (had a coupon for a free room) and will go see Superman at the IMAX theatre and eat some interesting food. Should be fun.
Next week looks pretty calm, too, leading up to DS's return on Friday and his birthday celebration on Saturday with a POTC movie and then a celebration at home. His birthday is Wednesday and it is sad to think of being away from him on his birthday, but we've arranged to have pizza and soda delivered to his dorm for his 9:45 pm floor meeting. Hopefully, he will enjoy the surprise.
Back to work for me. Have a great day all!

Good Morning,
Well, my attempt to keep up with everyone last week was pitiful. Every time I log on I am behind by pages and pages!
My update is that I have tried the elliptical and pool. I am in some pain after, but not during. So, I have clearance to do both. No wieght bearing activity at this time. I do feel some improvement and was able to walk about 3 blocks the other day to a neighbors without pain. So that's a start.
This will not be the week I keep up with all of you! I work tomorrow and then leave for Mexico for a week. I will attempt to stay on top of posts when I get back! :rotfl2:
Have a great week!

Greetings all. :wave2:
Well, I think I started something. Last night DH asked me if I wanted to do the 5K route again, so I said sure and put out all my things so we could get up and go at 5:00am. When we woke up though, it was pouring, so....being the slug that I am....I went back to bed. :sad2:
Which begs the question.....when it is raining, what do you guys do? I guess if I had more then one pair of running shoes I might have gone, but I don't, so that was my excuse. I guess I could have gone on the TM, but like I said, I was a slug.
Kevin - YAY! :goodvibes I'm glad you're back! You're comment about Helen's packet made me laugh out loud, which, as you can see from my early morning post yesterday, wasn't easy to do because I was cranky. But you made me laugh so I am REALLY glad you're back!
Christa - OK now you've got me really curious about your job....CIA? FBI?? Hmmmm... :rolleyes1 My job is no big secret, I work at IBM. The problem I have is after ten years of this corporate world, well, I've lost my motivation. I think working in this environment sucks the spirit right out of you. It's become a real grind. The only good thing is that I have my own office so I can shut the door and do stretches if I feel like it. BTW my time was not all that great, I was just so happy that I could do it at all! :teeth:
RedSonya - Thank you for your comment. And yes, the training tips and the things you learn here are wonderful! :thumbsup2
Matt - Hey I think your times were pretty darn good! :woohoo: And yes, that one bizillion percent humidity will get you every time!
Helen - Oh thank you. It's good to know it's not just me. :upsidedow Hey, I passed "Running While Sobbing 101"! :lmao: Oh Helen, I really wish you were going this time... Want me to give Eyeore a message?
Mel - Darn it, you too? I'm thinking you guys are all working undercover.... :cool2: Ohh the Race For The Taste! I have to check that one out. Sounds to me like there's food involved! Oh Mel, GO to the reunion. You'll regret it if you don't. That's coming from someone who missed both of hers so far.
Dave - Ohhhh, nuts. That's not what I want to hear from you. :guilty: Are you wearing your W.I.S.H. socks when you try to run? They have magical qualities you know... :wizard: :wizard:
Jodi - I don't know where Southport is. I'll get out a map. I wonder if they have a website where I could register. Suddenly I'm like a 5K machine! :woohoo:
Carrie - Your shirt updates in your signature crack me up! You're so funny! :rotfl:
Cam - Hey, umm, Cam? You know all the casinos are closed, right? Oh what a nice surprise for DS's birthday! And those are great plans. I'm sure he'll enjoy them.

Which begs the question.....when it is raining, what do you guys do?
Judy -- Go to LLBean or someplace and get yourself a waterproof rain jacket. You will not regret it. There were so many times last year that I didn't go out because of rain and it really does break up your rhythm. I got a really awesome yellow rainjacket at the EXPO that has the 1/2 marathon logo on the front. It has kept me dry in a downpour and made me very, very conscientious about why I was out there in the pouring rain in the wee hours of a Saturday morning! :rotfl:
Cam - Hey, umm, Cam? You know all the casinos are closed, right? Oh what a nice surprise for DS's birthday! And those are great plans. I'm sure he'll enjoy them.
Yep. We aren't gamblers anyway, so we aren't phased at all by the casino shutdown. Everything except the gaming areas is open -- movies, restaurants, shopping. We are actually hoping it will be kind of quiet there with the casino crowds missing. The only problem is that we are eating at Carmine's, which is a deadly italian restaurant -- wayyyy tooo tempting!

Yay to all of you who have run races lately!
I am trying to post quickly while the kiddos play - ha ha. We all know how that goes!
I swam yesterday - it was the more interesting swim of the week where I do drills and use the flippers, kickboard, etc. interspersed with free-style laps. I am trying to decide between running and riding today - my bike's water bottle cage is on order so I don't have a way to take anything to drink.
Here is a question for you more experienced people: I am prone to migraines and get one almost every time I exercise. If I come home and take my meds, I can head off a major one, but at 5 times a week - that is a lot of meds! I am good about being hydrated before I start and have tried drinking water and/or gatorade as I run/ride. No change really. I am hoping that as I get in better shape they will decrease, but wondered if anyone else had any suggestions.

Actually, you were right -- parts of Delaware were under 16 inches of water. Fortunately, it was pretty far south of here and didn't affect us. Just minor flooding here. Thank God our house sits up on a hill, kind of.
Hey, the sun is coming out. My partner said it is very muggy out, but at least we won't be running, walking, wogging in rain. :cool1:

Bekah - I don't have migraines normally, so I may be way off base here, but just in case it helps....
1. I get a migraine if I am running in the ehat adn not properly hydrated. At least 64 oz a day plus before/during/after (depending on distance) work out.
2. My db used to get migraines from low blood sugar during work outs. Make sure that you do not get hungry. I need to eat befoer and about every 40 minutes during.

OK Judy - 1) I am a LPC (counselor) and I work with child abuse, neglect, spouse abuse, court stuff ect...you get the picture. I work with the whole family. It sometimes gets out of control...running is therapy for the therapist. :goodvibes 2)Running in the rain...Just put on a hat and do it. I LOVE to run in the rain (if it isn't freezing cold out)then I put my shoes in front of the fridge to dry out.
Bekah - Sorry about the migraines. I have had a silent migraine while running. (not sure if you know what that is..) I was around mile 14 of a 19 mile run and suddenly my vision went very blurry and I got real dizzy. Not sure why it happened and hasn't happend again while running. I think I needed calories b/c after I took a Gu, and it got into my system, I was OK. Maybe you need to eat more! :thumbsup2
Nothing to report today b/c of meetings, clients all day long. My production co is also opening up a show Saturday, so we are practicing into the wee hour of the night (or shoud I say morning). Will run long tomorrow, I hope. It depends on how much sleep I get tonight...may have to push it to Saturday.

What a sweetie, Dave! Thank you! I have already taken the first dose of aleve and will do another around 5pm. Howard is coming by to play chauffeur for all of us so we don't have to walk to our respective parking garages, get out, get through the city and find parking at the race. He'll pick us all up so we can go to the race together. We'll put our goodies in his van and do the race and then he'll drive us back to our garages afterwards. I am sooooo spoiled!!! The really nice thing is he has agreed to run with my partner who has never done a race before, though she has been doing 3 miles on the TM several times a week for a while. I am sure he will enjoy having someone to run with. And I like her so much that I don't even mind that this gorgeous woman is running with my DH! ;) (BTW, she is also my WW buddy and she looks like Christa and I look like, well, uhm, Winnie the Pooh -- see my tag)
Actually, I am starting to look forward to the race. I'll be back later to tell you all how it went. Thanks again for your support, guys. I don't know why I am still so needy.
Last year's results show 829 participants, with 133 finishing with pace of 15:30 or longer. That is very reassuring.

As far as me... looks like I am gonna be sidelined for a while. Last night my throat started hurting a little, and then around 4am I woke up with the chills. This morning I woke up with a fever, and a sore throat so bad I couldn't swallow. Went to Urgent care and found out I have Strep Throat again!! Obviously, the antibiotics from 5-6 weeks ago didn't completely clear out the infection so it has come back. Here's to hoping it goes away soon, and thank goodness my mileage is slowing down for the next four weeks before I start seriously training for the Marathon. At least it will give me a chance to rest. Well..... I'm off to bed now. Goodnite everyone!1

Dave, Sara, Judy, Carrie, Melissa, Kristie, Jackie, Dana -- Thanks so much, guys, you are the BEST!!!   The 5K went MUCH better than Tuesday. According to my Garmin, the splits were:
mile 1 -- 14:17
mile 2 -- 14:15
mile 3 -- 14:11
final .13 -- 11:37
Garm thinks the race was 3.19 in 45:09.
I think official was 5K in 45:06 which is a 14:31 pace.
A bit better than Tuesday which was 47:19 for a 15:16 pace.
Thanks, again, WISH team, for your support! I LOVE hearing your "voices" in my head when I am out there by myself. :grouphug:
Oh, one last thing -- this race had the BEST goodie bag -- a bright yellow Lance Armstrong tee shirt, a yellow cyclist cap, yellow livestrong bracelet, a ticket to the local minor league baseball game next Thursday night, 5 different shampoo & conditioner samples, hersheys kissables, purple m&ms, a 2 different concert tickets -- one is a very locally famous garage band and the other is the Marshall Tucker Band -- and all sorts of coupons and discounts for local restaurants and shopping outlets.
I'll definitely do this race again next year! :cool1: :thumbsup2

I just saw the word's Helen's packet on a post then and got very confused - skimming again. Yes Kevin, it is here (did you not hear about me being on the DVD, did I not shriek loudly enough), but I just thought I'd mention the new trauma of the DL packet as I leave for England three weeks before the race - hmmmm, I wonder if it'll get here in time.
And Judy, if you could ask Eyeore to make sure Tigger is with him as I run past in 2008. After I've done Goofy, that's it, no more, I'm intending to retire and sit with a blanket on my knees - unless of course, I don't get my tigger picture this time either in which case 2010 here I come!!!
I'm skiving this afternoon, I finished my last job for the week at 11am this morning and thought - oh, I'll worry about next week, next week. I may regret that Monday morning but at the moment - hoorah, a rest. I think we'll got to see POTC tomorrow, I think it's on at the IMAX screen in town so that'll be fun if it is. Not much else to report, only on here to gossip really. Helen

Dana- UGH! :wizard: for the strep and congrats for being smoke free for so long :cheer2:
Krista-Didnt you & Steve do the Flying Pig 1/2 this year? Was it a good event? Mom & I are thinking of doing the full next year. It has a 20 min pace requirement so that is much more doable for my bad ankles than WDW 16 min pace. Plus she could probably do it with me. She's done all the big races with me & its becoming a cool tradition. I also would love the merchandise! I know you were thinking of doing Nashville this year. How far are you from Nashville? Just trying to figure out how far you are from me. We are 1 1/2 hrs south of Nashville.
I just checked & the full is 65% full & the 1/2 is 75% full
I have a sr today & it cooled off a bit when we got our rain so hopefully it will feel good.

Kristi, Your t-shirt "I'm Grumpy because you're Dopey" had me :lmao: That will get passed along to others! And WHY did you decide to run at noon??? But, hey, negative spits!!!
Anne - I've only had the nerve to wear those t-shirts once each to work. Since I work at a tv station, we can wear pretty much whatever we want. Speaking of - that's why I wog at noon sometimes. I work 3:30am-11:30am. So, my noontime is like everyone else's dinnertime. And on days Chad works, he does a 3:30-11:30pm shift, so someone has to stay home with DS. I have a very short wog-window somedays!
Cam - you go girl! Awesome job and your goody bag was fabulous!
Dana - get better soon!
Dave - more :wizard: for your shin!
So, yesterday was supposed to be a 3 miler - but Chad took the Garmin with him & Zack to the lake. Argh! I then lost all motivation because I love that little toy! So, I decided that I would swap and make yesterday my rest day and do the 3 miles this afternoon when I join them at the lake.
I woke up this morning with my arm killing me! I have lymphodema, but it's very mild and flares up maybe a couple times a year. I thought maybe I just slept on it wrong. I dug out my compression garment, pulled it on, and off to work I went. When I got here, the pain/ache was so bad, I was nauseous. It's better now, but still aches. It finally dawned on me what did me in. Yesterday, I squirted Round Up all over our gravel part of the driveway (weeds were making me crazy). I guess all that trigger pulling did me in. :sad2:
So, now I don't know if I am going to get out today either. Exercise can make my arm worse (the whole movement of fluid thing), and wogging with this thing on my arm is going to be crazy hot! So, we'll see how it goes. Now I feel really guilty about not going out yesterday. I get a little crazy once I am on a training schedule and feel like a failure if I skip anything.

Helen – I think the question was whether your pre-race packet ever got to you, but your response still had me :rotfl: I hope you enjoy a work-free weekend. I can’t wait to hear what you think of POTC2. I bet it will be awesome to see on an IMAX screen. The hotel/casino where we are staying has an IMAX theatre but they are showing Superman. I wish I thought the superman actor was a hottie, so I’d enjoy seeing him on the big screen, but alas, I think I may be getting old – he actually seems too young to be a hottie for that role. :confused3
Anne – I am so glad your workout went better this week. Please take it soooo easy so that you don’t re-injure yourself before DL. Thanks for asking about my partner. She said Howard pushed her but she felt so great about doing it. They finished under 27 minutes with an 8:41 pace. Awesome! :cheer2:
I checked the official results this morning and they were so “off” that I actually wrote to the race director to ask them to correct my time. It is off by 42+ seconds from what the clock said at the finish. Even Howard and Jess commented that I was 45:06 and my Garmin was close to that, so I know we were right. And that is more than 10 seconds different for the pace. I have done 11 5Ks with this company since March 2005, so I am hoping they will get this fixed.
Jess and Howard and I may do the Lance Armstrong event in Philadelphia on 9/10, but I have to check the training schedule and see if that would be okay to do a week before the ½. I am pretty sure I’d be okay, but I am going to think about it a LOT before deciding. The race last night was so awesome and for such a great cause, that I’d LOVE to be part of that bigger event in Philadelphia. It’s very cool – they have training sessions 2x/week leading up to the event, with professional trainers for bikers, runners and walkers. I am not available to do them because of the schedule, but that is such a great resource, if anyone is around the Philly area and interested. Terri?
Dave – I hope you get to spend your vacation doing all the things you love, including a bit of running, as long as you don’t injure your shins. I have to say I was shocked last night that I had shin splints for almost the whole first mile last night. That hasn’t happened in sooo long and I can’t figure out what happened. But, fortunately, the pain diminished to almost nothing and I was much better. I can’t imagine how you are tolerating that for running. I really hope you can get it resolved. In the meantime, remember that finishing the FULL is a HUGE accomplishment and certainly, without a doubt, within your reach.
Tiff – I’m sorry I don’t remember how old your DS is, but if he is old enough and interested and you want to, you could put him on a plane and we’d LOVE to host him for the 9/10 Lance Armstrong race in Philadelphia. You might want to look at livestrong.org to see if there is a race near you. The feeling at this race was amazing – very purposeful and joyful and all those yellow shirts and wristbands were inspiring!
Kristi – Don’t be so hard on yourself, sweetie. Don’t do anything that worsens your lymphodema. I know someone who has it and she says the pain is debilitating. Please take care of you. I hope you get to go to the lake and just relax. If you have to miss a training session or two, you’ll be fine. Just get back on track when you are feeling up to it.
Minnie – Have an awesome time at the Beach Club! BCV is our home resort (DVC) and we LOVE it there. We are staying there in January so be sure to leave some :goodvibes: and pixiedust: at the resort! :teeth:
Well, I am working today only until about 5:30 and then heading home to pack and head to Atlantic City. I think we are seeing Superman at 11 pm, sleeping in tomorrow, and then walking the boardwalk to find something for a light breakfast. Or maybe we’ll order room service – Jenn has never gotten to do that and would probably love it, IF she is up to eating anything by then. She still is so incredibly swollen and it has been 48 hours since she had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted. I am hoping she will be able to enjoy the time away with Mom & Dad and her Godmother and her DH all to Jenn’s self. (Ugh– where are the grammar police?)
Have a wonderful weekend everyone! If anyone is doing any races, please be sure to hydrate really well and wear sun protection!

I do have pictures of Copper Mountain, but hubby and I are computer illiterate, however if you go to my husband's work website you can see some of the mountain. The website is: www.carbonate-real-estate.com
If you click onto activities and scroll down til you come to 2 pictures of a guy fishing, that's my husband. :goodvibes Let me know what you think.
Cam, :cheer2: Great job!! :cheer2: and that's for both of your races! That goodie bag at the second one sounds awesome!! What a great reward. Did your partner enjoy her first race? Did your IPOD work? :music: Have a great time away from work!!
Matt, Great job on yours and your DW's Firecrack Fourth race!! :thumbsup2 Loved your description of the humidity and temperature! :rotfl2: So glad you were able to find a couple more events to participate in!
Dave, Cam said it so well about walking as much of the WDW marathon as you want. I know you have dreams of running the whole thing, and that can still happen, just maybe not this year. You've really come so far!! :cool1:
Judy, WONDERFUL!!! I must have missed about you not getting to do the Memorial Day race. I'm so sorry! But, see..you CAN do it!! and with hills!! Also your multi quotes look excellent! :woohoo: When do you leave for Italy?
Helen, Enjoy your time off!! and POTC!! pirate:
Dana, That's the pits!! :mickeybar WISH I could give you a real one!! Absolutely fantastic that you have gone 12 weeks smoke free! Keep it up!! :rainbow:
Monte, Do you have pictures of Copper Mountain? Sounds gorgeous!
Kristi, Your t-shirt "I'm Grumpy because you're Dopey" had me :lmao: That will get passed along to others! And WHY did you decide to run at noon??? But, hey, negative spits!!!
Jackie, VERY wise decision to not run after donating blood!! ::yes::
Little by little the stamina is building back up. Was so afraid that I would have to wait four months and then PRAY that I could be ahead of the sweepers at DL! The first time I tried one of my exercise videos..it was very, very sad. :sad2: Could barely make it through halfway before I gave up. But I did it again this week and it was much better, so I have hopes! Five miles this weekend!
Keep up the good work everyone!! Anne

Question: where do you wear a pedometer, on your ankle or your waist and why? I have always worn mine on around my ankle, but recently have been told that is the wrong place. Help.

This morning I did my old standard 45 min @ 3.8 @ 1% with no running. I stayed up way too late last night and this morning I was toast. Plus for some reason I am sore all over. Could be a Lupus thing. I don't know. Plus for whatever reason I was so craving salt last night that I am retaining water like crazy. It almost didn't look like my own face looking back at me in the mirror. Oh yes...I'm tired and bloated. What a turn on, eh fellas??
Christa - Ohh, that's a very interesting job, but I'm sure also heartwrenching at times. No wonder you need to run! :goodvibes
Melissa - Ohhh! Thanks for the shopping hint! I think I'll do that as soon as I get back. :thumbsup2
Jackie - Ah you are my kind of girl. :teeth: Thats exactly what I did. Of course, in January I'll be kicking myself for that.
Dana - Oh no! :guilty: That stinks. Get better fast! :wizard:
Cam - Whooo hooo! :dumbo: You did great! I'm very proud of you! Yay for the goody bag. A girl can never have too many hair products or Kisses (or kisses :love1: )! You're comment about the new Superman being too young made me chuckle because that's what I thought too! Sad... I hope you guys have a great time this weekend. Do you realize you will be only a couple of hours away from me???? ;)
Helen - What do you mean "that's it, no more"? No no! :rolleyes1
Anne - We leave Friday night at 9:00pm. Already I can't wait to get back. I am so dreading this trip.... Hey, and for you...baby steps, baby steps! :thumbsup2
Dave - Tiff said it best - getting across the finish line is getting across the finish line.
Kristi - Ouch! I hope it's better today. pixiedust:
Minnie - Have a great time but I can't let you go without telling you this...I am crazy jealous! Take pictures please!!!

Minnie - have a great time at BCV! It's our "home" also.
Cam - I keep telling DH we should do one of the Lance Armstrong events. Chad had the same cancer as Lance and I feel like we should, you know? My best friend lives right outside Philly too - but I think 9/10 is way too close to DL for us. Have a fabulous time in Atlantic City!
My arm is feeling MUCH better. I am going to leave work and head up north now. I will definately do my 3 miles as long as my arm feels like it does. now.

Cam - WTG on the 5k! That is AWESOME! :cool1: I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 24 and they were so bad that my medical insurance covered them! :scared1: I had them taken out Friday and My coworkers got a good laugh out of me when I came back to work Monday...They said, and I quote, "Christa looks like the Cabbage Pach Kid from Hell"! My face was VERY swollen.
Monte - Haven't gotten to look at the pics yet, but I cannot wait! The pedometer..I have no idea! If it is working for you where you have it..I would not change it.
OK my WISH friends....I did my 12 miles today, even though I got in VERY LATE last night! I heard all of you getting me out of the bed @ 0600 this morning to run! I did 12 miles in 1:48....that is 9MPM. I tried to slow down a bit so I would not run out of steam.
As I was running, I thought:
I know I am running in the South b/c:
1) Everyone you pass smiles and says morn'n.
2) "Sweet Home Alabama" was my motivation to get me up East Blvd (a 1 mile + BFH).
3) I had to duck under tons of "Crepe Myrtles".
4) The main thing in the paper today is the Nascar Hall of Fame that is coming to Charlotte.
There was something else but I have forgotten.... :confused3
Also had my weigh in today at WW...I am under my goal! :woohoo:

Morning all!!
Matt-- Great job with your 5K!! :thumbsup2
Judy-- Re: Running in the rain-- if I'm being a good little runner, I'll get out there in the rain, so long as there's no lightning involved. The way I look at it, there's a possibility that it might rain on race day, so lets get used to what that feels like. That said, snow and ice on the roads are a whole other thing.... I pretty much play that by ear and adjust if needed.
Beka-- Migraines are the worst, aren't they?? My first thought was hydration, but if that's not the issue, it could be blood sugar or it could be a low salt issue too. If it continues, I might talk to whomever has treated you migraines in the past to see what they have to say.
Robb-- I missed your question about the corrals too. I estimated my time at 5:30 and ended up in Corral C, and still had at least two other corrals behind me. For next year, I have no idea where I will end up since I did put in my proof of time from last year's race at 4:30.
Dana-- Sorry to hear about the strep. Get well soon!
Minnie-- I am unashamed to admit I am totally jealous of your trip. :p Have a great time!
Christa-- :worship: Wow, that's great!! I wish I could "oops" do 9 minute miles. :teeth:
pixiedust: pixiedust: for all those suffering with injuries... take care of yourselves!!
I was thrilled to get out and run yesterday afternoon finally. I did three miles averaging 9:06/mile pace. :thumbsup2 I was pretty proud of that. It finally feels like I am "training" again. I did map out my runs for the next 6 weeks so I have a plan to get me to the start of "official" training. Hopefully this will help get me off my duff a little better. :teeth:
It's a scary thought that I am 180 days out from the marathon trip today. :scared: At least I have the hotel(s), flights, ADRs, park tickets, towncar and race registrations taken care of...... now all I need to do is go! (oh, and that pesky "training" thing.....)
Well, I need to get to :beach: Happy Friday all!

Hey, Christa – You are my hero!!! :worship: Congrats on the WW sub-goal WI! :thumbsup2 You should be so proud of yourself for working so hard. Thanks for the reassurance that DD’s swelling is not unusual. I know she is self-conscious about it, but I am just glad she isn’t still in pain. And, she, like you, was in such bad shape that our health insurance covered the surgical procedure and the IV sedation. Thank God! I am just glad it is done before she leaves for college, so she won’t be in pain or discomfort there.
Soooo - speaking of being 180 days out, has anyone figured out ADRs yet? I know Friday night is set with our WISH meet at POR, right? But where are the marathoners eating Saturday night? Did anyone do anything good last year? I haven’t seen much in the way of carb-loading foods at any reasonably-priced restaurants and would love to hear any ideas. I still want to do our celebration dinner at LeCellier like we did after the ½. I just hope my “GOOFY” DH will be able to walk from BCV to EPCOT for that. :teeth:

Hi Everyone!
I'm more of a lurker than a participant so far but I just wanted to let you guys know how much I appreciate all the valuable information you provide - at the beginning of this link and throughout.
I do have a question for all of you in the know...
First some background. Due to the encouragement of a good friend, I have signed up to walk/run in the 1/2 marathon at WDW in 2007. She participated last year and really enjoyed it.
I have been inactive for quite a while (and I'm overweight) but I do enjoy walking occasionally and I've been gearing myself up to really get with a training program to walk and add some running in there as well. I have carved out the time that I need to seriously train over the next several months and I really, really want to succeed. However, in reading John Bingham's book "Marathon for Mortals" and other information by various authors, I kind of get the impression that since I've been inactive for quite a while (ie, not been walking on a regular basis), it may be too late for me to seriously train for January's half without injuring myself.
I have no health issues, past fractures or really anything in that nature holding me back....I just don't have the strength in my legs and feet just yet.
My question is this: Is it too late for me? I am planning on signing up with a personal trainer to help keep me on track each week. I realize that obstacles may come my way, other things can happen but I just want to know that if I seriously make the effort to train from here on out, and keep with it, that I do have a good chance of being able to participate in the half in January.
What do you think? Sorry so long.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Susie

I ran with my running group last night and we were out for an hour. WOW, it was a long one. We covered about 4 miles, with warm up and cool down walks. One of the leaders said she would help me train for my 1/2. She wants to do Goofy in 2008. She said she would help me this fall with my long runs if I wanted. How nice.
CAM - CONGRATULATIONS!!! You did awesome. I was super excited on my 5K when after mile one they yelled out 12.31 Great Job. Oh, and the person above that said she would help me run is the one that was doing the yelling. So supportive.
OH and we are doing Ohanas on Saturday for a celebratory dinner. There is nothing like a pile of flame grilled meat!!!! My girls love the coconut races, tho last time we were there they didn't give out gummy worms.
I am still curious, is there still any discussion on an Illuminations gathering??

Susie -- First of all, :welcome:
Second, I really don't think it is too late. Right now you can "train to train" -- that is, get out for walks whenever possible, try to do something other than walking as cross-training, and nourish your body in a smart way to energize it. I think the Marathoning for Mortals "walk a half marathon" training plan would start late September. So, between now and then you should get into the habit of walking and walking quickly. The sub 16 minute pace is not easy to maintain until you are accustomed to what that feels like and can keep yourself in motion. Work on stride and posture. Most importantly, find a really good pair of athletic shoes. I use running shoes even though I mostly walk.
Checking in here frequently helps us all stay on track and stay motivated. After all. 7 months can seem a long way off, until we realize how much conditioning we want to do to be able to pull this off without injury.
Good luck!

Monte, Copper Mountain looks great! Your husband definitely looks like he knows what he is doing. My husband is retired Navy, so you know where we have lived..beaches!! I'm a mountain person! I doubt that I could train on them though...whooooo wheeeee!
Here are two sites that explain the placement of the pedometer and why:
http://www.prevention.com/article/0,5778,s1-2-68-172-4113-1,00.html
and
http://www.wellness.lanl.gov/svc/motive/10k/pedtips.htm
If you still have questions, find the brand name on your pedometer and do a search on the computer for the company that makes it. They should have instructions on where your model should be worn.
Christa, how AWESOME!! What a sad person your MIL must be if she can't see how incredibly fit you are!! 12 miles??!! a 9 minute pace??!!! :worship: Your "I know I'm running in the South" list may have started something..I'll add #5 The humidity is 80% at 6:30 am!
Cam, we have a WISH meet firmed up for WDW?? It must have been while I was sleeping..siiigghhhh. I knew we were talking POR, but didn't know we had a time. :confused3
Kristi, so glad your arm is better today! Hey, if you get those times when you run in the heat, no wonder you are flying when it's early in the morning on race day!! :teleport:
Minnie, have a pain free GREAT time!! pixiedust:
Kevin, At least I have the hotel(s), flights, ADRs, park tickets, towncar and race registrations taken care of...... now all I need to do is go! (oh, and that pesky "training" thing.....) :rotfl2: So, true!! Glad you have your training schedule worked up!!
Judy, Have a WONDERFUL time, it's ITALY!! Maybe you and DH can get "lost" a few times and not be able to meet up with MIL?? :moped: Maybe MIL will meet some Cruisin' Dude who will want her all to himself!! :groom: It could happen....What happens on the cruise, stays on the cruise..right?
Jen, see? Aren't runner people nice? You are doing great!
OK, off to cross train. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!! party:

Kristi - -Awesome! And how wonderful and generous of that trainer to offer to help you this fall. I am going to be so lonely through training and certainly intimidated. Trying not to psyche myself out, though.
I must admit I am kind of jealous of everyone who will be celebrating Saturday night. Once again, I am wondering what mind of a  I am to have signed up for the full. So, we are looking for a carb-load option for Saturday night before we both do the full Sunday. Any ideas?

Jen-that is great you will have someone to train with :thumbsup2
Susie-Nope, its not too late. You are ahead of where I was last year. I signed up for the 1/2 at the end of July and was a big 'ol couch potato. I'd never done an event of any kind, nor considered it. This group inspired me to get off my booty! I used the MFM book to train & it worked well. I was a little worried like you when I saw everyone recommend being active for a year before doing it but baring injury, you should be fine. Definately train to train now. And yes, if you put your mind to it there is no doubt that you can do it :cheer2: I am of the "If I can do it anyone can" group. The atmosphere at the race is so great & everyone of every skill level feels like they belong there. Good luck , keep us posted!Watch out though, as alot of us can tell you, its addictive. I'm traveling accross the country in 10 weeks to do the DL 1/2 :teeth:

Cam - Great job on your 5K! And I so want to do the Philly event with you. I've been whining about it for weeks, hoping that DH will think that I'm not crazy to try a trip to Philly for a long weekend. But so far, he just looks at me like I've lost all sanity. I even read your post to him and got the same look! We're huge cycling/Lance fans, and I'd love to support the cause, and it just seems like a great race.
Also, DD had her bottom wisdom teeth out last week too, and the swelling took 5-6 days to subside. The pain was gone before the swelling and bruising was. We just got back from her recheck with the oral surgeon.
Christa - Isn't running in the south great? I love the saying "morn'n" to everyone! If we could only turn down the humidity... although I have to admit this weekend is just about perfect. And I could skip the whole Nascar thing - DD has become an Indy car fan (might have something to do with a very hot young Marco Andretti!) and we feel like complete aliens in this state!
DD and I are spending the weekend planning our girls' weekend trip to California in 2 weeks - including a quick trip to DL. We're going for a wedding, but squeezing in as many hours as we can at the park while we're there. Of course, friends and family think we're nuts, but they just assume it's part of the Disney obsession!
Have a great weekend!

MelR - Chad is 3 years out now. He was actually diagnosed while I was 8 mos. pregnant and on bedrest. Talk about a crazy month! He also did a month of elective radiation after that just to be safe. His urologist is very confident that things are ok - so much so that he now is going for his CT scans every year (instead of 6 mos.). I want to do some sort of big family trip in 2 years to celebrate his 5 years cancer-free. I know his case was extremely curable. But it was cancer for goodness sake! And (as Chad would say himself), he's half the man he used to be! :lmao:
Susie - the Half is definately doable for you! I only started exercising in January and completed the Minnie 15k in May.
I did get out for a 3 mile wog up here at Lake Sunapee this afternoon:
12:59
12:34
13:16
38:50 very good for me considering the hills here - we're at the base of a ski resort.
Speaking of Sunapee- if anyone is ever here for vacation or something, let me know. We are up here most weekends in the summer at my uncle's house on the lake. I'd love to meet up!
Also, speaking of kayaks - I was able to go out for a spin with Chad on our new tandem one while Zack was sleeping. I didn't paddle because of the arm swelling. Rather, I was chauffeured around a canal I never knew existed. Pretty cool - I think I am liking Chad's Father's Day gift! :teeth:
Tomorrow is 30 mins. xtraining - so I think I'll take Zack for a paddle boat ride in the morning.

Christa - very inspiring! You are awesome.
I must have pushed myself a little too hard this week after being too busy to workout for 8 days. My hip has been a little sore so yesterday I ran 3 and walked 2 miles. Today I swam a little over a mile. I think I will take tomorrow off to rest or swim again.
Haven't heard anything from my DS11 who is on day 10 or 20 in England with the Student Ambassador program. I guess that means he is having fun!
Thanks for all the words of wisdom!

keenercam, TiffJ, Kristi1357 - Thanks for you words of encouragement. :goodvibes I feel in my heart that I can do the half but I just needed to hear it from those that have been there AND to make sure that I am not just living in some fantasy world. I think this is an incredible goal, for me at least, and if I can do this....well, I think I'll be on :cloud9: for a long time after.
TiffJ - the friend that encouraged me to sign up told me how addicting this can be. :teeth: Since her first run (WDW 2006 half-marathon), she has competed in several 5Ks, will do the half at DL in September, a full marathon in October in San Francisco and the half with me in January. I don't know if that's a lot or not but it sure sounds like it to me.

Susie-- I "ditto" everything Cam said. I think that so long as you are starting now, you should be fine. I really do like the Marathoning for Mortals programs... very straight-forward and very doable for newbies. Heck, it got me to the finish line!! :thumbsup2 Welcome!!
Cam-- Re: Saturday night carbo-loading options---- last year, I ended up at Lotus Blossom Cafe in China with Veggie Lo Mein. Not the best, but it did the job. I had scouted all the usual suspects in terms of sitdown places, but I didn't want a really heavy meal for fear of race-day problems (and I was nervous enough as it was...)
This year, it'll be Rainforest Cafe (Rasta Pasta) for lunch after the half and then probably something back at the Poly for dinner (Kona? Room Service?) After the full, I was planning on a celebration dinner at Les Chefs de France..... which better be a big meal, since I don't think I will be able to move after 39.3 miles in 30 hours. :joker:

Here is what I have planned so far:
Thursday night - Hoop-de-do Review. Disney won't start taking reservations for this until next month.
Friday night - WISH dinner at POR
Saturday night - ???
Sunday night after the full - ADR at Grand Floridian Cafe, then over to MK for EMH if I am up to it, otherwise back to Pop for an easy evening
Monday morning - WISH breakfast TBD?
Tuesday lunch - ADR at Prime-Time at MGM
Rhonda was going to try and organize an Illuminations Dessert Party, which DD and I would love to do. The official WDW site has January hours posted, and there is EMH at Epcot on Tuesday, but I can't tell if that is AM or PM hours.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry – I kind of dropped out of sight. I wasn’t feeling so hot most of the week. I can’t wait to call and make my ADR’s today.
Soooo - speaking of being 180 days out, has anyone figured out ADRs yet? I know Friday night is set with our WISH meet at POR, right? But where are the marathoners eating Saturday night? Saturday, I’m getting together with my friends (Heather and Jim) we will most likely (hoping times are still open) be going to LeCellier. If anyone bumps into me that night, feel free to come over and say “Hello”
Looking forward to get the get together on Friday at Port Orleans, 4:00, right?.
Hey Question about the Garmin – I’ve always tried to pace myself with it but when doing my last 5k it was all over the place saying I was behind, the I would turn the corner and I was going too fast. It was killing me! Does everyone have this problem? I blamed it on the huge buildings in Hartford.
(Mel) Chimera congrats on joining the “Race for the Taste” I would love to that one year – but when I go in October, I go in late October.
(Random Thought) The most bizarre thing is I am starting to have dreams about Disney World and the trip in January :cloud9: ….. Anyone else doing the same?
Saw POC last night – pretty good, I want to go see it again…..I wasn’t able to fully join it because the people next to me were talking (oh well). I was surprised that my husband wanted to bring me with Johnny Depp  in it and all.
I will try and check in again a little later with everyone!

Good Morning Team! :wave2: (if I can even still call you my team since I haven't been here in forever...)
I just got back from a wonderful 8-day trip up to Pennsylvania. It was amazing but it sure did my diet in. All I did was eat, eat, eat, eat! Let's put it this way. I gained 9lbs in 8 days!!! :earseek: Can you believe it? I gained more than a pound a day. I had things I hadn't eaten in almost a year. Fries, real pizza, potatoes, tons of chocolate, and even an freaking IHOP funnel cake breakfast. What was I thinking??? But I went up there knowing the diet was sidelined for the week. A 2-day stop in Hershey, PA was first on the agenda for goodness sake. :rotfl: And at the end I am proud to say that I am ready to hop back on my diet and into exercise. In the past, a binge like this normally would have caused me to give up and gain all my weight back but not this time. :cheer2:
Here's what our vacation entailed. It was really really fun.
1. Hershey Factory with dinner at Hershey Pantry for our 4th Anniversary. :love2:
2. HersheyPark
3. Trip through Amish Country with a horse & buggy ride. Dinner at family style Plain 'N Fancy. The town was called Intercourse, PA. How could we resist? DH and I are both now proud owners of Intercourse, PA Tshirts!
4. Sesame Street Place. Breakfast with the characters.
5. Sesame Street Place. Dinner with the characters.
6. Philadelphia Children's Please Touch Museum. What fun!
7. Philadelphia on 4th of July! Just a VERY fitting coincidence. We toured Independance Hall, saw the Liberty Bell, and watched the 4th of July parade and fireworks! The town was buzzing! It was great. :thumbsup2
8. Crayola Crayon Factory. :rainbow:
It was a 13 hour :drive: for us. We split it into 2 days on the way there, but we drove all the way home in one day. I'm praying some of my weight gain is from being so bloated from the long drive, but probably not. :confused3
Anyone have a copy of MFM hanging around? I loaned mine to a friend. Could someone please post the Week 1 schedule for RUN-WALK 1/2 Marathon for me? I've been out of it for so long that I'm seriously having to start over here. But I'm looking forward to it! Thanks!
Just for myself:
I would like to recommit in writing that I am restarting my diet today July 8, 2006 and that I will exercise tonight for 30 minutes. I will not get discouraged by how fast or how long fellow teammates are running. I will encourage them and focus only on where I am. I will stick to my training schedule even if I have to do it alone. No one can do this for me or prevent me from doing it.

Hi RunningLilo!
I was in Pennsylvania the week before you visiting Hershey Park and Amish country. Oh, and yes, we had to get t-shirts from Intercourse as well. :teeth: We didn't eat at Plain and Fancy but we did the Amish tour, saw the Amish Experience Show and "typical" Amish house from there. In addition, we ate at an Amish Farm for lunch. Had a great time!
As for the MfM - I've just finished reading it for the first time. Here's the schedule for week 1:
Monday:
Run/Walk, Moderate Intensity (I), Heart Rate (HR) - 60-70%, I-Rate 6-7.5
35 min: Run 3 min/ Walk 2 min Repeat 7 times
Tuesday:
Cross-Training, Moderate I, HR - 60-70%, I-Rate 6-7.5
30 min
Wednesday:
Rest
Thursday:
Run/Walk Form, Moderate I, HR - 60-70%, I-Rate 6.5-7.7
35 min*: Run 3 min/ Walk 2 min Repeat 7 times
* After the walking cooldown, perform 4 stride drills by gradually increasing your running pace for 30 seconds until fast but controlled pace is reached, focusing on form and quick footstrike. Follow with 1 minute of easy walking. Repeat 4 times.
Friday:
Cross-Training, Moderate I, HR - 60-70%, I-Rate 6-7
30 min
Saturday:
Endurance Run/Walk, I - Comfortably Brisk, HR 60-75%, 6-7.5
3 miles: Run 3 min/Walk 2 min, Repeat continuously
Sunday:
REST!
Good luck with your training! I'm just now starting this process. I hope I can stick with it! Enjoy!

Pat-- I didn't even realize that the hours and EMH info was out already...... and wouldn't you know it, I have to make a change to something. :guilty:
Jodi-- It could be the tall buildings, no doubt about that. I have read product reviews from New Yorkers that basically say "don't bother" because of difficulty getting a good signal.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, I have finally done it. I managed to make it nearly one entire year in this happy group, and now I've gone and done it---- I've hurt myself. :guilty:
Did you forget to stretch before you ran? Nope Did you go out too fast? Nope! Actually, I tweaked something putting away dishes last night. At the time it was just a little twinge on the inside of my knee and it didn't bother much at all for the rest of the night. This morning, however, it was very tight indeed. I stretched really good and tried to give it a whirl, but that wasn't happening today. :( So I'm icing it down and taking the day off. My best guess is that it's muscular as opposed to something more serious, but if it lingers to Monday I'll have one of the ATs at work look at it. I guess better this happen now than 3 months from now, right??
Happy training all!

Dena - I'm glad to see you back. I have been missing you! I really like your accountability statement. I think we would all be very mentally healthy athletes if we would stick to some of those ideas!
Kevin - OUCH!!!!! The solution is clear. No more doing dishes or housework for you!! Hope it heals quickly!
Is EMH Ext magic hrs? If so, do you make your ADR's in the park with the EMH and then stay and play?
OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The WISH meet is at 4:00??????? I don't think we will be in until 7:00 on friday :guilty: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: I hope we can get to some of the other wish events!!!! Y'all just need to sit around and chat till the late hours so I can see you there!
Just fininshed 3 miles on the TM. Phil is on-call, so as I was sitting downstairs watching NickJr. and Dis channel w/ the boy, the TM started calling to me. Glad that is done!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:
OK, I have a reservation at the Wilderness Lodge for Saturday, January 6th, and I'm thinking we'll be staying off site the other days. I made an ADR for Chef Mickey's for Saturday, January 6th at 5:30p. That day will be DD8s princess: birthday (will be DD9), and we'll celebrate a birthday dinner there.
I didn't know about the WISH meet for POR on Friday either. Friday at 4:00p at POR? :confused3

Is EMH Ext magic hrs? If so, do you make your ADR's in the park with the EMH and then stay and play?
Yes! EMH = Extra Magic Hours. Different parks on different days, some days morning hours, some days evening hours.
Last year DH and I did AK evening EMH - very cool. That park always closes early, and the evening hours were awesome. We ate at the Flaming BBQ and had seats down on the terrace level looking across the water at Expedition Everest. We were the only people in the entire area. We walked through Asia and did not see another person, it was like we had the park to ourselves. Not a lot of rides or shows going on, but just the feeling having the park to ourselves was wonderful.
Otherwise, you need to check and see if the attractions open during EMH make it worth your while. This trip I will have my DD 21 with me, so you can be sure we won't be doing any morning EMHs. I like the evening EMHs just for the extra time in the park.
Still trying to decide about a few other ADRs. There is always the dilemma of choosing between tried and true favorites, and something new. DD is not the most adventuresome eater, so that limits us too. We are definitely planning on Hoop-de-do Review on Thursday night, but Disney is not taking reservations for 2007 shows yet. I love the planning!!

I forgot to mention my 8 mile LW this morning at the forest preserve. I had an average pace of 16:04.
That included several stops for wild life. At one point I rounded a bend in the trail and an attack squirrel was up on its hind legs :scared1: I do NOT like squirrels. Am I the only one who thinks they are rats with bushy tails? After I jumped back a few feet (and probably confused my garmin) the squirrel headed up a tree. Took me a few seconds to get back into my groove after that terrifying experience. Fortunately the next wild life encounter was a lot better. A deer and her two fawns were standing directly on the path. After a moment the mom gracefully jumped into the high grass....but the two fawns just stood there looking at me. No way was I going to walk between them and their mamma, so I tried shooing them from where I was and after looking at me for another moment or two they followed their mom into the brush. It was just like the cornfield scene in Field of Dreams, one moment you could see them, and the next they had completely melted away. I also saw a blue heron - not too fond of them either since we have had one munching on the koi in my backyard pond. There were also a lot of cute bunnies and lots of people with dogs. So, all in all, it was a good walk. The Chicago Distance Classic is only 36 days away, it is getting close.
And in case you were wondering.....
71 days until the DL Half
182 days until the WDW Half
183 days until the WDW Full :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Take care everybody!

Time to get back to work.
We had my uncle's funeral today. Everything went fine. We're having him cremated so we can take his ashes back to Arkansas ( :wave2: to MelR) so he can be buried with his wife.
I'm getting ready to go out for a 5 mile wog. Hopefully I won't be too slow.
My nightly spinning rides with the Tour de France are going pretty well. I've actually lost 3 pounds! :goodvibes
Dena and escape - So you came to PA and didn't even say hi to me?! :teeth: Hope you enjoyed your time here. I love taking my nieces/nephews to Sesame Place. We always have a ball. And my Mom and her siblings are originally from Amish country. We visit there often.
Kevin - Hope the knee is feeling better.
So the WISH meet is Friday at POR? I must have missed that announcement.
I know I missed a lot on this week's thread. Now that things will get back to normal (I hope), I should be able to keep on top of the weekly thread.
Happy weekend training to all! :thumbsup2

Terri, sorry for your loss. Sending PD :wizard: your way.
Kevin, rest the knee, use some ice and see how it feels tomorrow. Hope it turns out to be a simple tweak.
Dena and Escape, glad you enjoyed your visit to PA. I live about 1/2 an hour from Lancaster and we head out there about every month or so.
I know I have missed a lot of others but I do not have that much time. I have been very lame in posting for about 3 weeks because I have been swamped at work and doing some home improvements, but mostly because I have been having a lot of dificulty with getting the body working right. I have run a 5 K (23:08 but had to walk 4 times in the last mile due to back spasms), and a number of long runs but have difficulty with each one. I think there is a combination of really having glucose issues and my over thinking the difficulty. I did a 7 miler on Thursday and right at 6 miles (around 50 minutes) I got light headed, dizzy, vision got blurry, and every muscle in my body felt dead. I stopped and walk/ran back to my car then took some gatoraide and instantly felt better. Today I did 10 miles with the running club and the same thing happened at mile 8. This time I had Sport Beans with me and they worked well but I was finished running and ended up doing 6 min run 2 min walk to the end. Sorry for going on and on but, as you can see, I am trying to figure this thing out with little success. I am going to set up an appointment with a nutritionist, maybe they can help.
Thanks for listening everyone. Hey WDWfan9, the Chicago Distance classic is the same day we head home to Saratoga Springs for the first time. Good luck.

I remember from a previous post but wasn't sure if it was set in stone....just assumming :teeth: I'm hoping it works that I get to meet everyone then....although you never know - I'm also doing the Goofy with one of my best friends, who at that time won't have seen in a year - I'd like to spend some quality time with her too! Tough to fit so much in such a short weekend :goodvibes
