Virgin Atlantic credit card

Sorry if this has been posted before - I've tried searching unsuccessfully.

Have Virgin stopped doing the credit card that gave miles for every pound you spent?

I looked into it about a year ago and liked the fact that you could earn a 'free' companion flight if you spent £15k in a year, so thought I might give it a go. Can't find details anwhere now :confused3 Has it been withdrawn, or am I not looking in the right place? :blush:

My DH has this credit card and earns Virgin miles. He only got it a couple of months ago so I know they must still be doing them. I had a quick look on the web for you but can't see where it tells you that you can earn air miles. :confused3 I have a feeling that DH had this problem and just rang them up to ask if he could apply for one of the cards that lets you collect air miles. Hope this is a little help.

I also have one of these cards, mine has an annual fee of £80 and a very high interest rate but I get 2 air miles/points for every pound spent. I'm paying off the balance on my DW's new car this weekend with the Virgin card .... 5000 points Ker-ching! I will though be paying this straight off when I get back home!

However, I have a feeling that Virgin have stopped promoting this card. I'm sure I read somewhere that they were stopping it in favor of another card. For the life of me I can't remember where I read it though :( It might be worth giving Virgin a ring to see what they have to say?

Thanks both of you. I'd even decided on the one with the annual fee AndRu for the extra miles! I will give them a ring ::yes::

Edited to add that I gave them a ring and the call centre bod confirmed that they were no longer offering this card at the current time ..... but, to watch for more details in early July!

So, sounds like they may be going to offer a slightly different version; wouldn't mind betting the terms won't be as good :rolleyes:

Thats a shame, My parents have only just got one. I wonder if they are going to change their terms?

Also ive noticed that a companion flight is actually 20,000 miles!

Ah .... it's already losing a bit of its appeal! BA's Amex is £20,000 spend for a free companion flight and Virgin's was - I'm pretty sure - £15,000. That was one of the reasons I was interested.

I hope they don't change things for those of you that already have them :goodvibes

Still worth taking a look at the new offer, you never know, might be even a better deal for the consumer :rolleyes1 (not holding my breath at this point ;) )

I believe there is a spend of £15k for a free companion flight as well as the points options. Certainly that was what was said when I signed up back in Jan. Be interesting to see what the new version is!

If you do have one of the Virgin cards, don't get bogged down on the £15k - £20k thing. Just ....

* Spend what you can afford
* Pay it off ASAP so as not to incur interest charges
* Keep looking at the Miles+Money offers for discounted flights

And don't forget, if you've had holidays / flights with Virgin in the past you might (as I did) be able to claim the points for those trips. I claimed aprrox 16,000 points for 2 holidays with Virgin to Florida and had them added to my Flying Club Membership in addition to my credit card points.

Great general advice.

In my case though, we do pay off cc bills in full monthly but are very heavy users mostly due to DH's job. So it really was the '£15k - £20k thing' I was most interested in ;) - a free flight is a very nice perk :thumbsup2
