Hi CJK~
Hope you're having a great week! How was Branson? I'm leaving for WDW tomorrow, but I just wanted to stop by and see how you are doing. :goodvibes Take care!
Thanks everyone! :goodvibes I'm back from a GREAT trip to Branson. What a great little town with fabulous entertainment. In 3 full days in Branson, we managed to see 10 shows, Inspiration Tower, Christmas festival of lights and Silver Dollar City! Can you believe it? While it was very busy, there was VERY LITTLE exercise!!! Our days consisted of eating and sitting! I did manage to run on the hotel treadmill twice for 30min. each time. I also TRIED to be good foodwise, but I did allow some treats here and there. Buffets are ALWAYS my downfall!!!
I weighed myself today and wow - I actually lost one pound!!!! I've really gotten good at knowing what to order and what not to.....but I did think my desserts and bacon/egg mornings would have caused some damage, but maybe not!
My last official weigh-in was 10 days ago, but as of now, I'm down 3lbs from then. Hopefully this weightloss wasn't a fluke, but I'll try not to weigh myself again until Wednesday - 2 weeks after my last weigh-in.
I just have to share a little story. It may seem insignificant to most people, but for me, it was a victory. We went to Branson on a bus tour. During one of our travel days, I needed to get into my carry-on bag which was in one of the compartments above my seat. I stood up and started rummaging through it. Just then, a couple fellow passengers needed to get by me so I had to squish into a nearby seat in order to allow the people through. A woman behind me exclaimed, "it's a good thing you're so tiny"!!
I just smiled and eventually found my seat again. But inside, I was positively glowing!!! I know that this past June, there's no way anyone would have ever called me tiny!!! I must be doing something right and boy, does it feel good. I've decided to go for another 10lbs of weightloss, but I'm 6lbs away from my original goal. The end is in sight!! I'm excited to try maintaining since.....well......I've never really tried it before.
I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend. I'll get to all the journals shortly.

You'll have to let us in on your secret. ;)
Have a wonderful weekend! Welcome Back! :goodvibes

That is a great story and the ultimate compliment! WHatever you are doing is working, I bet you will have no problem losing those next 10lbs. I wish I were as dedicated as you, maybe then I wouldn't be playing with the same 5lbs for the past 18 months... :rolleyes1
Keep it up! :cheer2:

I loved your story about the bus! You should really be proud of your accomplishments regarding your weight and lifestlye changes. CJK - your bus story is awesome. You must have been grinning ear to ear! What a wonderful affirmation of all your hard work. You're dedication is definitely an inspiration for me. :cheer2:
Thanks so much for your kind words everyone. :goodvibes I've really been thinking about what you've all said. How have I kept going so faithfully these last 6.5 months? I guess it's a few things. The first is exercise. I find exercise easier to do than eating well. The second more important thing, is that I allow myself treats EVERYday.
When I go to diet/fitness websites, I often read how people completely cut out sweets and/or fastfoods and I always find myself wondering how on earth they keep that up longterm. For me, I find that I HAVE to allow myself some treats or I would simply give up. For example, I'm still going strong on my Halloween candy from MNSSHP in October! The key for me is portion control. I have about 3 small pieces a day. Friday night is pizza night. I have 2 small pieces. I simply try to work these foods into my otherwise healthy diet (complex carbs, protein, fruit & veggies).
The third thing is posting in my journal and being accountable. Your support helps more than you can know! Reading your journals helps me motivate and feel motivated! Thank you!
This approach has worked for me so far (51lbs gone). Today I discovered that I've entered a new decade - weightwise! ;) I'm 9lbs away from my goal now. I'm not sure how Christmas will go, but I hope to at least maintain.
Hope you're having a great week!!! :sunny:

CJK: Your are my inspiration! The day somebody on a bus calls me tiny is the day I died and went to heaven! You are the queen of "staying with it" and your success and the compliments that go with it, is earned! Send some of that willpower and determination my way, I NEED it! Good for you, keep it up!

Great job and congratulations on your successes!!! :grouphug:
Thanks so much everyone! :goodvibes Your comments really mean the world to me.
My week has gone pretty well. I have one more Christmas gift to buy and I hope to finish wrapping this weekend. This coming week is the official beginning of many social gatherings of the season. Eek! The good news is that I'm hosting two of them, so I will have more control over what is being served. The next 3 weeks will be difficult. I had initially wanted to continue losing through Christmas, but I think that's unrealistic. The food choices over a period of 7 days will be VERY fattening, exercise will be reduced and drinking water will be difficult with all the bouncing around to house to house. I will still watch portions and exercise when I can however. My goal will be to maintain and if I miraculously lose weight, that'll be a bonus!
I'm down another pound making me 8lbs away from my first goal. Of course, my two scales are still 8lb different. According to one scale, I'm practically AT goal and according to the other, I'm 8lbs heavier. Go figure!
Have a great weekend! Tonight is pizza night so I'm anxious for hubby to get home!

That sounds sensible, trying to maintain will be hard enough (for me anyway!!)
Although knowing you & how awesome you are doing it wouldnt suprise me at all if you continue to lose throughout christmas! ;)
Enjoy the pizza :)

CJK you have a very realistic plan in place for the holidays. Great job!!!
8 lb variance - Wow. Good for you taking the heavier of the two. Can you get a real weight at dr's office or maybe try out a third scale someplace else? Wouldn't be an awesome surprise if the lighter scale was the correct one? 8lb difference on the scales would drive me nuts! Can you tell I don't like "unknowns" ...
Have a great weekend and enjoy your pizza night!

CJK: the best thing you can do you have done: being realistic and not setting yourself up for failure! And you want to enjoy the holidays so why stress about trying to lose? Good for you! Hope pizza night was fun. I would just average those two scales and say you are 4 pounds from goal! Anyway you slice it, you have done so incredilby well have much to be proud of!

You are doing great. I think maintaining during the holidays is a very good plan. And if you do manage to lose, it's an extra bonus!! Keep it up, you will be at your goal soon! And I'd toss the scale that was 8lbs heavier, that's just the way I am... I'd get some weights (like dumbells) and weigh them and see which scale shows the correct weight. Then you can toss the scale that is wrong!
Thanks everyone!! :goodvibes Thanks for the tips re: our scale dilemma! I think I will weigh some barbells on the scales and figure out which scale is correct. Thanks!
I'm starting off my Monday in a lousy mood! First, I weighed myself and was UP 2lbs. Intellectually, I know that it can't be real weight (since I stayed in my allowed calories all weekend), but it still bothers me. I had a lot of salt yesterday and didn't drink enough water. The kicker is that we're having company 3 times this week so it's no fun starting the busy FOOD week off by a showed weight gain on the scale.
In my attempt to make healthy food choices, I made a low-fat cheesecake last night, to be served tonight. Well, the cheesecake split open after cooking. Why does that happen? So much for serving a beautiful looking cheesecake. Dh and I sampled the cake tomorrow to make sure it was company-worthy. Dh said that it was, "okay". It definitely tasted a little healthy. I'm worried that our company will hate it! Argh!!!!!!!
I have a million things to do today to get ready for tonight and it's no fun starting the day off feeling so lousy. I'm going to run on the treadmill in an hour or so. Hopefully that will help me feel better. Sorry to vent, but I figured this was better than eating another piece of cheesecake!! :teeth: Have a great day!

Hi CJK

I'm sure your company will love it :thumbsup2

I hope your run helped you feel better today. :cool1: Bummer on the 2lbs, but I'm sure you are right about the salt. Just drink lots and lots of water this week. If you slice the cheesecake before you serve it, no one will know about the split. I'm sure your company will love it either way.
lovinaz
12-14-2006, 12:51 PM
I made a low fat pumpkin cheesecake and it split too. They are very finicky creatures. I did get a cheat sheet on how to prevent cracking, I will have to make another one to see if the tips work! I'm sure everyone will love it, no matter what it looks like. You could always put some whipped cream on it to hid the crack (that's what I did!).
Don't worry about the scale going up. If you know that you ate within your limits, it is just water retention. I know it's easy to get frustrated by that number on the scale, but just try to keep doing what you are doing and try to stay positive. :teeth:
Thanks everyone. Sorry I've been MIA again. The last few days have been full of Christmas parties and lots of disappointing news. As I sit here, I'm struggling with my mood. But first the good news!
Wasn't the BL finale fantastic last night? They've all done so amazingly well and deserve a lot of credit. Talk about inspiring!! It really makes me think that WE CAN ALL DO IT too!!
I've continued with my water, healthy eating and exercising as much as possible during all of these Christmas parties. I baked some cookies and didn't eat a single one for dh to bring to work. I did have one glass of wine per party (a far cry from 3 like I would have done). I'm proud of how I've done, but the scale isn't cooperating!
I did drop one pound this week (the mysterious 2lb gain disappeared thankfully). I've just been confronted with some family stress and disappointment. Another couple was going to go on a Disney cruise with us in the new year, but they have had to cancel. Another dear friend just told me that she and her husband are separating. I'm just heartbroken b/c I love both of them. I want to do something to help, but I haven't a clue what to do. I just heard some disturbing family stuff pertaining to Christmas which is difficult to handle. It's funny how we hear bad news in three's!
Normally when I'm stressed, I EAT, but I'm not doing that now. I'm just letting myself feel everything. Wow!
Oh wait, I don't want to end on such a down note. The good news is that a dear friend was here earlier this week who I hadn't seen since early September. Anyway, he commented on my weightloss which was nice to hear. But what meant the most, was how he said I have a new "glow" about me. My skin and hair seem to be shining he said. Basically, he said that I seem so healthy overall. I told him that he could come for dinner again. ;)
Have a great weekend!

It's so nice to have people notice all of your hard work!
I'm so sorry you're haviing some added stress over the already stressful holidays. It is such a hard time, but good for you for sticking to your guns and not munching. I really want a chocolate chip cookie, and it's taking every ounce of will power to just say no!
I saw the winner of BL on TV this morning--what an inspiring story. I only wish I could maintain that kind of dedication.

So sorry about all the sad news CJK, it seems to feel all the more sad at this time of year too. Just be there for your friends who have seperated - both of them, & make sure they both know that, so they wont think your taking sides.
Congratulations on losing the mystery 2lb's plus another 1lb :)
That IS something to celebrate, remember as you've lost more & more the weight loss will slow down, this is when a lot of people 'give in' but i know your not one of those people, as you have shown amazing will power & still are!!!
Hope all the other stressful stuff calms down!
That was lovely what your friend said to you, & just the motivation we all need to carry on, tell him he can come to mine for tea too if he's nice ;)
Thanks so much to everyone for humouring me during my unecessary pity party. :sad2: It's comforting to know that I can really be myself here which, as you've noticed, ain't always pretty! :p
Today is going great! The scale showed a 2lb loss and I'm wearing SIZE 8 jeans!!! They're old jeans from my skinny days that I thought I'd try on for heck of it and they fit (still a little tight on calves and waist), but fit perfectly everywhere else and absolutely wearable! Woohoo!! I just may have to go shopping soon!
I had a really good Taebo workout today and am ready to conquer the weekend and all the food temptation it brings. Have a wonderful weekend everyone. I'm going to try to get to all your journals later today. :goodvibes
The scale saga has been resolved........sorta!!!!!!
This afternoon, dh stood on our two scales that are 8lbs out from each other. We then brought the scales downstairs to our little gym where he weighed himself again on both scales (to ensure that the numbers didn't change from moving the scales). They were the same. We then proceeded to put 115lbs of weights on each scale. The verdict? The heavier scale was 4lbs too high and the lighter scale was 1lb too low. We concluded that the more weight that is on the scale, the further out the scales go. Sooo, we've concluded that to be safe, we likely weigh 2lbs heavier than the number on the lower scale. Does this make sense or am I rambling?? :rotfl:
Anyway, the point is, I've been going by the heavier scale and now I realize I should be going by the lighter scale (plus adding approx. 2lbs) which means I'm now AT my initial goal!! Woohoo! I'm still going to try to lose a few more pounds so as to fit into my pants a bit better. My 8's are still a little tight on the waist and I have a few cotton pants I'd like to fit into without having the pockets bulge. But still, it's nice to know that I'm almost into the 140's.
Thanks for sticking with me! I'm off to read your journals. Have a wonderful final week before Christmas! :sunny:

I think I would get a new scale and ditch the other two! It's bad enough I have to see the number on the scale, forget adding math to it!!!! At least you have a better idea of what the "right" number is.
Congrats on the Size 8 pants! At this rate, you will pass me up, since I have been stalled for quite some time now (and am 4lbs heavier than I was this summer, OUCH!)
You should definitely treat yourself to a shopping trip as a reward for all your hard work these past few months! :thumbsup2

Hi everyone!! :goodvibes Thanks for checking in on my journal - especially when I haven't been!!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends. Our Christmas is really spread out over 5 days between our two immediate families, extended families, aunts/uncles/grandparents/friends. We had some wonderful quality family/friend time. However, I've got some good news and some bad news.
The good news is that I was able to work out 4 of the 5 days that surrounded food. I worked out on the treadmill each of those days and walked one evening as well. During the first 3 days, I really held my own foodwise. I was able to have SINGLE portions of the unhealthy treats that were constantly presented to me. Also, if I didn't REALLY want it (ie. pie), I said no and just had a single chocolate or something similar that I DID really want. I'd never do that before.
Okay, so onto the bad news! :scared: I drank very, very little water and LOTS of tea! I was constantly travelling between houses so water would have just been a nuisance! Well, on day 4 and day 5 of our Christmas week, I lost it both evenings. Quite honestly, I lost control as far as sweets are concerned. At one of the parties, there was an enormous spread of my favourite chocolates, squares, brownies, candy, etc.... Something just snapped in my mind and I made the decision to have whatever the heck I wanted. I ate so many sweets that I'm sure I gained a couple pounds in those 2 days alone. Yes, I easily had 7000 extra calories!!! All the foods that I hadn't been eating the last 7 months (or very large quantities of them), were just too much to resist. I'm soooo disappointed in myself, but I'm trying not to beat myself up.
I couldn't bring myself to stand on the scale this morning, but I do know the scale will be up. Today, I got back on track with water, exercise and food. BUT, tomorrow I'm going to one of the biggest parties of the season!! :upsidedow Yikes!!
I'm really struggling right now and I just want to get back on track and not undo some of my hardwork.
I was also really struck by how friends/family reacted to my weightloss (now about 60lbs lost since June). Well, most people were quite complimentary. Some family, however, FREAKED out and said they were worried about me. Their reactions really bothered me. I'm in my healthy BMI (about high mid range), I've lost about 2lbs a week (so it wasn't too fast), yet my family is worried? I admit to shedding a few tears when I was by myself (but that could also be the Christmas stress getting to me). Sometimes I think that I just can't win. *sigh*
Well, I've got to go make a salad for tomorrow's party. Please send any positive thoughts that you have to spare. I'm quite nervous about losing control again. :( Hope you're all having a wonderful Holiday season!!!!!

Hang in there CJK! 2 days of eating snacks is not going to undo 7 months of hard work and commitment. You have done such an amazing job at losing the weight and being more healthy. Holidays can be so stressful with all the running around and social situations. As for the comments...focus on the positive reactions, not the negative and maybe jealous remarks. People are so funny when it comes to their reaction to anonther's weight loss. Back in the mid-eighties, I lost 60 pounds and was told I looked too thin (120 lbs. on a 5'3" body is not too thin) I think some of those commments were caused by envy. Also, don't you just love how everyone tries to fatten you up? Stay away from the scale for a little while. Maybe give yourself a week to get back into the groove and then weigh yourself. There's just no reason to make yourself more stressed out over a number on the scale. Keep doing what you have for the last 7 months and you'll be just fine, in fact you already are!

CJK, just got caught up with you and congratulations on making your initial goal! Don't worry about overeating at the recent gathering, its what you do the next day that counts. Enjoying some sweets at the holidays is just a fact of life I think! As for people's negative reactions to your weight loss, how disappointing but not surprising! Nothing like a big amount of success to make people feel crummy about themselves and then criticize you. Every time I have lost weight I have been saddened by the reactions of others. Which is why I love WISH. We are all friends but in cyber space its easier to be nice and true to ourselves and each other and not be petty and jealous! As I recall one of your reasons for doing this was to get healthy to conceive, thats some powerful incentive. I think given your age its not an off the chart amount of weight to lose. YOu exercised and worked very hard at this. Its not like you did some wacko diet that cannot be maintained. Since you lost that weight and gained a ton of muscle you did it the healthy way. So just blow off the cattiness and be proud of you!
Hang in there, the holidays are almost over (thank goodness). Then we can all start the new year and leave the sugar loaded season behind us. And again, CONGRATULATIONS!! :cool1: :thumbsup2 :grouphug: :cheer2:

Once the holidays are over, just get back into the routine, and hang out here for encouragement. I think most of us experience the same thing, gain during this time of year, but the new year is a time to start again.
Don't worry too much about comments from others. You've worked hard and should be proud of your accomplishments. :thumbsup2

Hi CJK
we are all struggling right now so know you are not alone.
Well done for getting back on track after the party, & i'm sure any small gains will dissapear once new year is over & life settles back to a normal routine :)
I'm sure your family didnt mean to upset you with their reaction, proberbly just shock! You have done an amazing job the last few months, i'm sure if they knew how sensibly you have worked to lose the lb's they would understand & be overjoyed for you, but if they dont know pherhaps they would be concerned you were ill or something.
Hope the next party went well :)

Don't worry about all the naysayers! You are finally at a healthy weight. You did not pick that healthy weight out of a fashion magazine with ultra thin models, you picked that healthy weight out of a established medical chart for healthy weights - BMI. You lost weight the right way - eating healthy and exercising. And if people can't be happy for you, that is their problem, not your problem!
And like everyone else has said, don't let a couple days of crazy eating get to you. We've all been there, you just have to focus on all the things you did resist. Those couple days won't ruin everything you've accomplished.

Hey! I am finally getting caught back up with your journal.
First,:cheer2: CONGRATULATIONS!! :cheer2: on reaching your goal weight!! WAY TO GO!! You have been SO dedicated and done an EXCELLENT job!! I will take inspiration from you as I get restarted on this journey.
Second, I hope you have gotten back in the swing after the couple of rough days. I agree w/ previous posters that a couple of days won't derail 6+ months of hard work...unless you let it mentally throw you off of the track. I think that the weight loss journey is as much mental as it is physical. Keep thinking the positive thoughts and you will get there!! Remember you are working at this for your health and the health of your future children and that is an awesome motivator! You are already at your goal weight all you have to do now is maintain and maybe drop a pound or two here and there so those pants are a touch more roomy. That is a cinch compared to the hard work you have already put in!
:cheer2: Keep up the good work!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!! party:
THANK YOU soooooo very much to all of you!!! I think I had what can be considered a "temper tantrum"!! I'm quite embarassed. :headache: :rotfl: Thanks to your kind and encouraging words, I'm right back on track!
A little off topic, but have any of you ever had chocolate, candy cane cheesecake???? I had some at the party I went to a couple days ago. Let me just say it's AMAZING!!!!!! I didn't intend to eat the entire large piece, but I just couldn't resist. The hostess also had homemade turtle brownies that were incredible. Thankfully, I worked the rest of my day around these goodies so I didn't gain weight. In fact, I'm down a couple pounds from just before Christmas!! It has really been an eye opening experience.
While I did indulge in some treats (one REALLY bad day and two semi-bad days), I did watch what I ate the rest of the time, continued exercising and kept busy. I'm wondering if my body welcomed the extra food, almost as if I was in starvation mode again (though I eat 1400 calories a day on average)? Interesting. In the meantime, I'm trying to be careful today and tomorrow so that I can enjoy some champagne tomorrow night! ;)
I'm wondering if I should re:evaluate my weightloss plans now. I still have a couple pair of pants that don't fit yet, but I'm beginning to think that I'm not really meant to be that small anymore. I'm a solid size 8 right now, about 148lbs on my 5'8 frame. I was 140 when I got married and I never thought I'd get to that weight again. I once got to 131 but found that entirely too difficult to maintain (read: dh found me somewhat irritable! ;) ). I'm going to try to get to 145 and try maintaining for a while.
As for the negative comments from family/friends regarding my weightloss, you're all absolutely right. That's why I love coming here so much since we're all on this journey together.
Happy New Year and thanks so much for sticking with me! I'm off to read some journals!! :cool1:

Hi CJK-
It seems like we are very similar in weight and height! I am 5'7ish and right now about 152 pounds. Id like to get down to 140-145.
You have done a great job, dont worry about all the holiday eating--we have all done it! you will get back on track !
Have agreat weekend!

CJK, I'll add my voice to what others have already said. The comments from others are disappointing, but don't let it get you down. You know you have lost weight (and become healthier) in a sensible fashion - eating right and exercising. It is a lifestyle change, not a diet. That is also why the indulgences (like that scrumptious sounding chocolate peppermint cheesecake!) are fine. These are indulgences, not regular habits for you. Do what YOU feel is right as far as your weight. Don't let the negative comments of other dissuade from continuing to lose a few more pounds if that is what you want to do.
Here's to a Happy & Healthy 2007 (and maybe a new addition?) :) I'm sure you get enough family pressure, as it is. :) Just know that from a health standpoint, you are doing great!

CJK I know what you mean about comments. I have not lost as much as you (only 25 pounds)and mine has been over 2 years. This past summer my "friend" asked me if I was losing weight or was I sick. Yes I found out the I have PVCs (irreguloar heartbeats) but they are a very minor problem and that was the only problems that I have had in the past year and she knew about it. Some people should just keep their mouth shut.

Hey CJK!!
I can't believe I haven't checked in for a while.....I'm sorry!
I've been reading, but not posting...
Anyway, great job on the weightloss!! Family & friends are used to seeing you one way, then you do something different, they don't know how to react. (either that or they're jealous at how good you look!!:thumbsup2 )
Keep up the good work and kickin' butt!! To heck with the naysayers!! Also, 5'8" 145 is a good goal...and you are only 3 lbs from it!! I'm 5'5 and want to get to 140:wizard:
Have a great day tomorrow, and a great week, just incase I don't check in for a few days....(i'm a schmuck!!)

Wow, it has been entirely too long since I checked into my journal! My apologies. I should make it my New Year's Resolution to keep up with it!!
Well the Biggest Loser competition is officially over now on the DIS. :( I lost 22lbs during the challenge. I'll miss the accountability, but I'm not going anywhere. Y'all are stuck with me! :)
I just found out that I'm going to Mexico next week. Woohoo!!! I'm even considering wearing a.......gasp.......bikini for the first time in my life! I still don't have a real bikini body, but I'd like to reward myself somehow for my progress. We'll see if I'm brave enough!
Diet, exercise and water have been quite good so far in 2007. Hopefully this will be the year that I continue with it, and continue with these good habits. What a wonderful thought to have finally changed my habits for the better...permanently! In the past, once I got down to my ideal weight, I would "celebrate" by binging!!!!! NOT ANYMORE! I have all of you to thank for your continued support. THANK YOU! :grouphug: If any of you are interested in seeing what I look like, and I'm sure many of you have lost sleep over wondering what I look like :rotfl: :rotfl2: , I posted on OhMom's "biggest loser before and after pics". http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1313519

Lindsay, go to post 308 of this thread (page 21), there is a link to the other thread, and CJK's pic is the second post.
doesn't she look fab??
And Welcome to WISH, BTW. Glad to see you here.
Gosh guys, you're actually making me blush! Your words mean so much to me, and help motivate me to continue on this journey to a healthier me. I hesitated whether I should post my pictures or not, but if my progress motivates anyone, then it was definitely worthwhile. :goodvibes I'm not where I want to be yet, so if y'all don't mind, I'm going to continue writing throughout the year.
Do you find that you're your own worst critic? When I look at my after picture, I still get annoyed and frustrated. Don't get me wrong, I do see the changes and I am proud of them, I just thought I'd be further along than I am. But anyway........I'm not going to focus on that. Moving forward!
We leave for Mexico this Thursday so I'm running around trying to get things done. I've been eating a few more calories per day, but I've really stepped up the exercise to help compensate. A pregnant friend really wanted to go to an Indian food buffet yesterday which happens to be my MAJOR weakness! Thankfully, this particular restaurant is known for its healthy food so hopefully I didn't do too badly. Boy was it good!! Anyone else ever dream about somosas??? :cloud9:
The scale continues to move down in the right direction. I'm not sure how much more I want to lose now. My main focus now is getting more tone so I'm going to kick up the weight training a bit. Of course, most of that will happen after I get home from my trip (and consumed too many chocolate monkeys and pina coladas! ;) ).
Foxfiregrrl: I'm not sure when/if we will begin trying to have a baby. Thanks so much for your kind words. Our original plan was to start trying this past fall, but I'm having trouble taking that next step. It's such a major decision and my maternal instincts have yet to kick in. The clock is ticking, however, so a decision needs to be made very soon. Best wishes to you as you get healthier and begin the journey towards parenthood! :goodvibes
I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far. I'm going to read some of your journals and then get ready to go out with friends tonight. Have a great day!

WHere in Mexico are you going? You are going to have a blast!!!
Everyone is so much harder on themselves than they should be. I am always talking down to myself and say things that I would NEVER say to another human being! We all need to learn to be nicer to ourselves!!!
As for the baby thing, my first (DS10) was a "surprise" and I didn't have a motherly bone in my body when I found out I was pregnant. I was very surprised at how those motherly instincts just magically appear once the baby is born. I'm sure whatever choice you make will be the right one! :goodvibes
Amy&Dan
01-06-2007, 05:52 PM
Hi CJK, I agree with Amy (as usual). Your motherly instincts will kick in once your baby is here even if you think they won't! And I agree that whatever you decide will be the right decision. You are smart to think it through very carefully and wait until the time is right. And if you want a dry run, I am happy to Fed Ex my kids to you for a long weekend!
We are so hard on ourselves, its human nature, especially for women. It takes awhile to adjust to a new you. But you continue to work hard. Also, please keep posting. I know that once I lose all my weight (please God) I will keep posting and journaling because that will help me stay where I need to be. I know at Weight Watchers they say to keep coming to the meetings even after you have reached goal. People who do tend to keep it off. So don't leave us, if nothing else we would miss you!
Have a great time in Mexico. And have a pina colada or ten for me okay!

CJK your "red dress" picture is fabulous!! You look great and should be really proud of all you have accomplished. Good Luck on the baby front. As others have said, it really does change you. Even though I complain about my kids, they are also my greatest source of joy. I was not the "motherly" type before kids either, but it really does naturally come. It is definitely a big step, but try not to "overthink" it. At a certain point, just do what feels right.

I hear you on this! We got to thinking we "should" have a baby a year or so after we got married, but we could never quite jump. We've been playing "maybe next year" since 2002. Then, one day it's like someone flipped a switch in me and I'm ready NOW. I have no idea how or why, but while we would have loved a baby if it had come along before, I'm glad we waited.
It sounds like you're thinking this through carefully and being very honest with yourself. I know it will be great when the time comes.

Hope you had a great weekend!!!
I'm BAAAAAACK! It feels like months since I've been here rather than just days! So much has been going on in my life. I hope everyone is doing well with your healthy lifestyles. I tell you guys, I could really use some of your positive vybes!! :sad2:
First off, I'm back from the Mayan Riviera and Cozumel (split stay in both cities). We had a fabulous time!!!! I even went to the gym twice and did lots of snorkeling and swimming in an underground river. However, I have a confession to make to y'all......
I chickened out and didn't wear my bikini. :sad2:
I know, I know. I'm really disappointed in myself. In my defense however, dh agreed that the bottoms were tight and did show some unwanted bulges! :scared1: I could have bought another bikini, but considering the fact that I've never worn THIS one, I'm sure not going to buy another one to just gather dust in my closet!!! ;)
The other bad news is my eating. Yikes! I've been totally out of control. With all you can eat food at my disposal, I absolutely threw caution to the wind and ate whatever I wanted. Breakfasts consisted of bacon/eggs and every fresh pastry I could get my hands on. Lunches consisted of pizza nachos/cheese/salsa, dinner consisted of many, many simple carbs and ice cream with a bunch of fruity alcoholic drinks thrown in for good measure. It wasn't pretty folks! We got home this past Thursday, and my eating hasn't gotten much better. I found my Halloween candy bag (yes, HALLOWEEN candy from MNSSHP) and I've been chowing down. I've been back into my exercise routine, but food is still lacking. It's better than it was on the trip, but nowhere near where it should be! WHERE'S MY MOTIVATION???? :confused3
Well, the candy is almost gone so that'll help. Dh is going to help me get back on track too. But, if any of you are willing to give me a kick in the pants, PLEASE DO!!! :cool1: I ate a pretty nasty lunch today (after working out on the treadmill - go figure), but I think I'm going to go do a weight routine before dh gets home. I hope you're all having a good weekend!!!!!

Welcome Back!! Your vacation sounds like it was absolutely wonderful! :cloud9: Snorkeling & Swimming in an underground river sounds really, really cool (hyperventilating a little 'cause how can there possibly be enough air in cave type enclosed space, but still think it is really cool! ). I laughed when I read about the pastries. Those are definitely a vacation weakness for me too. And fruity alcoholic drinks and Mexico just go together.
You will get back on track. It seems everyone has trouble with "reality" after a vacation. I'm sure within a week or two you will be right back on track. You have already started exercising again, so that is a start. Next work on drinking enough water or getting your food choices under control (you get to pick :) ) . Then go on to the next one. You can do it!!
But if you want a "Kick" here it is: CJK, you have worked too hard and come too far to let it all slip away now! You are at a healthy BMI and you are going to keep it that way. Don't let the pounds creep back on. You don't need to take the vacation lbs off all at once, but don't let them take up permanent residence either. You can get back to your healthy eating & exercising. You can do it!!
How's that?
Ok, I'm quite sure I'm going to need you to return the favor after my vacation in March. After 4 days on the Wonder with Krispy Kreme's, I might require rehab! :)

I'm sure you will get back into the swing of things once your routine is back to normal. Just remember all that hard work you've put in, your my motivation so dont give up now, or i dont stand a chance!!!!!!

You will get back in control of your eating. It takes a while to get back on track after vacation, but you can do it! You know how hard it was to get this far, you don't want to get back to where you were, do you??

CJK: Welcome home, so glad you had fun! It takes a bit of time to settle back into your routine. Also, once the tummy gets stretched out from vacation eating, its hard to go back right away to your normal amount of food. But it sounds like you have made the transition. That is what counts, getting back on track. Thats what maintenance is all about, staying with the program overall. Its good to have fun on vacation, who wants to be a diet commando in Mexico? Thanks all. I'm sure that if it weren't for all of you and this journal, I'd still be eating my way back to my original size.
I managed to do well on the weekend with food. I had one white russian, but everything else was fine. I was pleased. A dear friend asked me to be MOH in his wedding so I was quite touched by that. Now I have even more motivation to stay on track this year.
I must admit to feeling really, really down. Dh has noticed a real shift in my attitude - and not for the better. For 8 months I was riding high. If I went to dinner and made a healthy choice, I'd feel so proud of myself. Now? I feel angry and deprived. This is my 11th day of being back on track and this attitude shift is really weighing on me. I need to figure out what's going on. Whenever I do allow myself a little treat, I just want to eat more and more of it, so I can't really let myself cheat much right now because I don't seem to have my usual self control. The trouble, is that we have 3 parties this weekend, with one being a superbowl party with all the bad foods you can imagine.
I've got a lot of stress right now in my personal and professional life. I think it all has to do with emotional eating. I can't give in to it or I'll wind up back to where I was last year. If anyone has any prayers or positive thoughts to share, I'd really appreciate it. I hope this is just a phase that I have to get through and then I'll be back to my ole self.
Thanks for listening.

We all go through those rough spots. I think if you are that stressed that you hit it right on the head - it's that old, nagging habit of emotional eating trying to make a comeback. DON'T LET IT!!!!!
Find something that you don't associated with eating when you feel the urge to snack come on (for me it's either reading, surfing DIS or watching TV). Then hopefully once you get engrossed in that activity, the feeling will have passed.
You CAN get through this, hang in there!

HI CJK
Sending lots & lots of positive vibes your way pixiedust:
It almost is certainly due to the stress you say you have in your personnel & profesional life!
I'm just trying to think of ways to help & thought what about writing a list of things you know de-stresses you & doing them.
Also the fact you are having to deny yourself every treat will make you disheartened, tell yourself a little of something in moderation is ok & once you can do that i think you will get your self control back :goodvibes
Hope you feel more positive soon,
take care :flower3:

Keep on keeping on!:cheer2: You have done a great job in the past and I know you will continue to do a great job!:cheer2:
I know how hard it can be to stop emotional eating when you're under so much stress. I think the key is to take it step by step and day by day, realizing that we are going to have both good days and bad days.
Replacing emotional eating with healthy habits is a great idea! Maybe when you want to eat and you're not hungry, you can come here and post about it. Maybe you can do a quick exercise, maybe 15 crunches or lunges... Maybe brush your teeth so you won't want to eat.... Try several things out. You'll find one or maybe several that you can use in place of the eating. I know firsthand that it is easier said than done, but CJK, I have confidence in you that you can do this!:cheer2: You have come so far, please don't give up now!

I often wonder how much the weather and time of year effects our mood and attitude towards our eating. This early part of the year, you're in total depression following the holidays plus the weather is bad, so you don't feel like getting out and doing things.
The fact you're able to work through that and stay on track is HUGE. You are overcoming your emotional reaction to eating, and that is something I'm so jealous of. Even though you're angry and feeling deprived, you're still able to see the forest through the trees and stay strong. Keep it up! We all know what you're going through!

The fact that you recognize that it is emotional eating, not real hunger is huge. That gives you the power to fight back - and you have the power to do so! You are a stronger, healthier, normal BMI woman because of all your hard work! Others have made great suggestions about distracting yourself until the craving passes. I think I read somewhere else that if you still have the craving after 3 hours, then allow yourself a small treat and that will satisfy the craving. The weather/season is affecting all of us, but it is already February. Spring will be here before you know it. Just hang on a little bit longer and it will get better and easier. :sunny:
You're all just so wonderful, that I just can't express how much it means to me. :goodvibes I may not have posted for a while, but please know that I have been lurking. Truth be known, I haven't felt worthy of posting yet... :guilty:
I've never considered myself a binge eater, but I seem to have gone down that path this past weekend. :sad2: I had 11 days of good eating since our trip to Mexico, though I admit it was a REAL STRUGGLE. Then, last weekend I had 3 parties. Instead of using my usual tactic of portion control, I completely gave into all my cravings and lost control. Have any of you had the Costco frozen cheesecake slices? In one box, there are 4 kinds of cheesecake: amaretto, creme brulee, chocolate and berry. Anyway, I discovered that I can never, ever keep a box in my house again. It wasn't pretty!
In my mind during my 2.5 day binge, it was as if I was telling myself to eat as much as I possibly can because it will all end tomorrow. I was actually disappointed whenever I felt full! Ironically, I really felt like I wasn't depriving myself during these last few months. I was still allowing myself some treats, but maybe not enough? :confused3
I haven't weighed myself, but I know I did some damage. I still wasn't back to normal weight from our trip. This little binge has done nothing to help me get back on track. I'm still wearing the same clothes, they're just a little tight on the waist! However, since Tuesday of this week, I am finally back on track.
No really, I am! :p
I think I need to mix up my program as you've all suggested. I went out last night and bought some new exercise dvd's including Carmen Electra's strip tease, pilates dvd, salsa dvd and an aerobic dvd. I also bought some new foods to try such as different nuts, skinny cow ice cream sandwiches. I've made a clothing shopping date with some friends for the end of March so that's my reward for staying on track over the next couple months. I will still allow myself treats along the way (ie. Valentine's day, dh's b-day, etc...), but within reason. I will not feel deprived anymore!!!
Thanks for all your support. I'm off to read some of your journals. I'm sooo behind and I've really missed you! Amazing how that can happen when we've never physically met before!

CJK: You can do this, don't give up or give in! And yes, I have had that Costco cheesecake before, its evil its so good! Buying some new workout DVD's was very smart. A great way to motivate and reward with a non food thing that will really help you exercise. I think anytime you lose a lot of weight, the first few months of maintaining that loss are especially hard. Add to that the fact its been the holiday's and winter and its just a challenge. But you have had a lot good days, so its not as though you have fallen off the wagon, just had a few bumps. You can do this and you will! And I am glad you missed us, I feel that way too when I am gone from WISH. We are a community of friends here to support each other!

Yes, I've also been in the "might as well get my bad food day's worth" mindset. That happened to me on Superbowl Sunday. And I paid for it with an upset stomach at 1am!
Great job getting back on track. I've also been there with the cheesecake which is why that is just another item on my "DO NOT BUY" list. If I want to splurge, I will go to Cheesecake Factory, enjoy a piece, then be done with it.
You are doing wonderful, I hope you like your new workout DVDs!

CJK, it is good to see you back. Great idea with the new videos and I especially like the "clothes shopping date" idea. That will be a good incentive for you to get back on track and stay there. I know what you mean about missing the WISH community. Sometimes I am embarrassed to post when I am not doing well, but I know I can get support here and it always worth it to come back. Haven't had the Costco cheesecake but sounds like something I should definitely stay away from:rotfl2: .

Just dropping in to say Hi.
I too have to stay away from cheesecake. I just can't have it in the house or I'll keep eating "little" slices...until the whole thing is gone.
The shopping date is a great idea. Glad to hear you are back on track.
Thanks everyone. Sorry to be away for so long yet again. I'm finding it difficult to post when you're feeling down in the dumps! Anyone else ever get like that?
Well, I'm living proof that exercise alone is NOT enough to maintain your weight when your eating is out of control! Since January, I'm just having such difficulty with my attitude it seems! Argh! In the last couple of weeks, I'll have about 5 really good days. Then, I'll have a special event happen (ie. dinner at a friend's house who is a chef!). Instead of doing the portion control thing, I decided to throw caution to the wind and not worry about it. That would be fine.......if I gained control the next day. But no, that didn't happen. That one night, turned into 2 days of eating junk. This has happened more than once in the last few weeks (see the cheesecake story in my previous post!!).
I'm now back on track and am on day 5. But, I just don't have the confidence I once did. I've definitely gained weight (my size 8's don't feel as good as my size 10's do now!). I went shopping on Monday and nothing I tried on fit. :( I've got to get back under control.
The good news though (yes, there is good news!), is that I maintained exercise. I really like my new dvd's which is helping with my motivation. I've also continued to drink water and stop eating after 8pm. Too bad I couldn't say no to all that food! :sad2:
But, dh is really being supportive and is helping me regain my balance. We're doing our annual 6km charity walk at the end of April (this will be our 4th year). I have always walked the 6km but now I'm thinking of running at least part of it. I hope that this will be motivation for me! I also bought You: On a Diet and am enjoying it. Hopefully with all of these elements, I'll be able to regain my focus (and lose this recent weight gain as well as a few additional pounds). I want to burst into spring feeling good about myself which would be the first in many years.
Thanks for hanging in there with me! Have a great rest of the week.:goodvibes

Yay for getting back on track:cheer2: . You have made some major changes in the past year going from being overweight to a healthy BMI. That took a major amount of discipline. Now you need to find a good balance to maintain your healthy weight, allowing yourself indulgences without going completely overboard. I know you can do it though!!! Just look at what you have accomplished already and KNOW that you can accomplish this too!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hi everyone *sheepish wave* :)
I can't believe it has been so long since I posted. I had been feeling terribly guilty about it, but now I'm realizing that I really need a break. I just didn't want to completely stop posting without saying goodbye (at least temporarily) to my WISH buddies first! :grouphug:
You have all been so wonderfully supportive to me on this journey. I shudder to think where I'd be today if it weren't for all of you! I'd probably still be a closeted eater and feeling miserable about myself. :sad2:
So, where am I today exactly? I'm still sticking to my new lifestyle, while enduring the odd bump in the road (darn maple syrup season!!! ;) ). I'm still a few pounds heavier than I was at Christmas (vacation weight that I never lost), but I'm still maintaining in general. I watch what I eat during week days and cheat a little on weekends. I exercise 5-6 days a week and I'm drinking water. I'm training for a 6km charity run at the end of April.
I haven't been posting because I've felt a little burnt out. I was starting to be consumed as far as diet/fitness was concerned. I talked about little else with my hubby and was become unbalanced. Have any of you ever felt that way? By stepping away from my journal for a while, I've been finding my way back to balance. I still lurk on the WISH boards and I'm still subscribed to many of your journals. We've come too far along the journey to sever ties!
I wanted to send you all a heart felt thank you for helping me along these last few months. Last June I started this journey and now, 10 months later, I think I've finally "gotten" the fact that this is a way of life. I'm going to continue taking a break from journalling, but I'll be back! Best wishes to all of you for continued success. If I can do it, ANYONE CAN!!! :cheer2:

Wow - thanks for the bump!! It's nice to know I haven't been forgotten! :goodvibes I've been thinking of all of you and have read some journals when I've had the chance.
Well, here's the update. I'll start with the good. ;) I have started running. I did my 6km charity run, which led to another, which led to me running 5km 3 times a week! Until this spring, I've only been able to do interval training (walk/run/walk/run), so this is VERY new to me. I have good and bad days, but I haven't stopped. It's so invigorating!!! I'm going to load my MP3 player with some really great music, so that should only help more. In between my running days, I'm still doing pilates, weights and aerobics. I work out about 6 days a week, sometimes 5, sometimes 7. It depends on the week. On weekends, I generally just go on long walks with dh.
Now for the food update. Welll, it's just so-so. You'd think with all the running I've been doing, that I would have lost some weight, but no such luck as of yet! I am still about 10-15lbs heavier than I was on Dec. 31st, but I'm not gaining anymore. (Incidentally, most of the weight gain is from my January vacation that I haven't been able to lose yet). I'm quite good with my eating during the week, but too many social events on the weekends. I'm still trying to train my taste buds to prefer apples to cheesecake! :p
So, basically I'm maintaining. I'd like to lose that pesky 10lbs again, because I bought some shorts and jeans that aren't fitting anymore. Argh! I'm quite active during the summer so I'm hoping that will help. I just need to get my weekend eating under control.
So that's my update for now. I hope all of you are having a great summer so far. I'll try to check in more and read some of your journals. I miss all of my WISH friends!!! :goodvibes

Hi all!!!
Believe it or not.........I'm still here! Its been a very busy summer, mostly good, some bad.......basically the usual!!!
I just had to post my recent success.................. I ran my first 10km this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The best part is that I'm not particularly sore or tired. I ran my first 5km at the end of April and consistently kept running until then. Sadly I'm not a size 2......ahem....due to my love of food..........but I've been maintaining size 8. I really hope that fitness will forever be a part of my life. If I can do it........the queen of junkfood and procrastination.....ANYONE can!!

Reflections...........
Hi all! As we prepare for the holiday season, it occurred to me that I've been at my goal weight for a year now (plus and minus a few pounds throughout the year, but remained basically constant). This may be an even bigger accomplishment for me than actually losing the weight itself. I've lost weight before, multiple times actually, but I have NEVER kept the weight off for one year before. For that I am proud.
Maybe this time it really is a lifestyle change I've developed and not a "diet". I have let myself have treats, but I know that by doing so, I have to be good for a few days. Exercise is a regular part of my life, 5 or 6 days a week. I still don't enjoy exercise, but I've learned that I don't like the feeling of NOT exercising more.
It feels sooooo good being able to go clothes shopping, and being relatively sure that I will be a size 8 pant and medium size top. For years, I never knew how big I had gotten so shopping was always a nightmare. I hope I never take this for granted.
I hope all of you have made this lifestyle switch as well. I'm in this for the long haul. Best wishes to everyone and happy holidays!!!

In a word..................OY!
New year, new me....that's the new objective! I think I've probably gained about 10lbs in the last few weeks between vacation and Christmas fesitivities. Not bad in the grand scheme of things, but definitely a sign that things aren't going very well. I've been feeling tired. Tired of the same old exercising routine, same old food routine and constant guilt if I end up off course. I've been back on course for 5 days now and plan to continue. It felt just terrible over Christmas not fitting into some of my dress pants (something I haven't really felt for 2yrs), so I've got to get a grip before it gets worse. I'm going to shake things up and try some new exercise activities and different food choices. I'm visiting family in Florida in February, so it would be nice to fit my clothes again.
I hope that by resurrecting this ole journal, I'll feel inspired and get back that passion that I used to have. I look forward to reading some of your journals again and see how you're all doing. Happy New Year! Here's to a healthy and happy 2009!

Christa - I found you!! You are such an awesome person that I know that you will be able to get those few pounds off that you want to loose. You know what to do and how to get it accomplished. I know you will beat your challenge.
On a side note, I can't thank you enough for coming over to the DFD thread and wishing us good luck on Marathon Weekend. It would have been great if you could have been there. Maybe next year?? That coule be part of your training goal for this year. To get prepped for the WDW Half. I am planing on being back and I know of a lot of other WISHers that will be there as well. Be a great way to put a face with a screen name. But I will stop pressing.
It really is great to hear from you again.

Thanks everyone - for remembering me and for your encouraging words! :goodvibes It does feel good being back, even though I haven't had a lot of time yet. I'm on track and feeling good about it! I've been trying to get my hands on wii fit, but no luck yet. The stores sell out in hours after getting restocked. Do any of you have it? I used it at our neighbour's house last weekend and really enjoyed it. It would be great to own, so I could switch things up a bit.
Dh is addicted to P90X. Anyone have this exercise program? I don't do it myself, but I do run on the treadmill while he does the program. Talk about intense!!!! It's nice having an exercise partner, even if we are doing different things.
Bubba - I have often thought about doing the half in Disney. The problem is that we only get a few weeks of holiday time a year, and dh absolutely doesn't want to do a marathon during his precious vacation time. I'll work on him though. How did you do??? Congratulations!
Well, I'm having company tomorrow and the next day. I'm making healthy salads and entrees with an unhealthy cheesecake for dessert... ;) Is that terrible?? haha The good thing, is that I'm making one cheesecake for both dinners, and any leftovers will be sent home with my guests. I'll just make sure I have little slivers. I probably shouldn't have any......but.....this is probably my favourite cheesecake ever - chocolate caramel.
I've been exercising 45min. a day and eating very well 9 days in a row now. Even with all this company, I'm planning to stay on track. I can do this!! I haven't weighed myself yet, but I haven't really noticed any improvement in my clothes either. I'm still motivated though.
Have a great week everyone! I will get to everyone's journals this weekend hopefully.

Great job getting back on track. I think making healthy salads and entrees and a delicous cheesecake is very smart! I mean you get your veggies and other "good stuff" in but still get something decadent to share with company. Good balance in my book! I have heard of that exercise program your hubby is doing, it does sound intense! I think its great you and your husband are working out together. Keep up the good work!:thumbsup2
