Train to HHI????

I am trying to get this HHI mini-trip to come to fruition...

How long of a trin ride approx frim RI do you think?

Would it be better to just drive?

Amtrak doesn't go to Hilton Head. I think your closest stop would be Savannah, and then you could rent a car and drive from there.

You can play around on Amtrak.com, but it seemed like a pretty long trip to me. They had you leaving Providence at 10:25 PM, getting to Washington DC at 7AM, leaving DC again at 9:55 AM, and getting to Savannah at 8:35PM. About 22 hours, and then you still have to drive to Hilton Head. It'd be about $500 per person, and that's without sleeping accomodations. Looks like that would be $356 additional, per two adults.

I'm assuming you don't want to fly. I like Amtrak and use it several times a year, but I took a 20+ hour train trip several years ago, and you couldn't get me to do that again at gunpoint. And we had a bedroom on the train.

I'll tell you, I would rather put bamboo shoots up my fingernails rather than drive from RI to SC. Been there, done that!

(Sadly, I will be RIDING to RI in 3 weeks but flying home!)
