My sister is starting the College Program on August 2nd. I am planning to go down to visit her October 7-14. I want to book a value resort because this is a solo trip. I am an obsessive planner! I have NEVER not had my hotel reservations if I knew I was going! It is killing me that she can't make a reservation for me until she gets started in August. So I am just wondering if maybe anyone was just sitting around doing nothing and wanted to check availabilty for those dates at a value with the CM discount just to put my mind at ease. Just knowing there are still rooms availble will make me feel better even though she can't make the reservation for another month. So, if anyone was willing I would greatly, greatly appreciate it!
Also, just a random question, can you book the dining plan with the CM discount? Just wondering! Thanks so much!

Thanks for answering, I figured the answer was no.
Does anyone know how many rooms they offer at the discount? I mean have you ever tried to book a room for someone and none were available? How hard is it to get a discounted room?

I'd book now, then cancel if she can't get it. There's only a few at each rate. No dining plan can be added, nor tickets. Tickets aren't much cheaper either, go with AAA.

I had DD, who is a cast member check. As of right now there are rooms available at the value resorts for the dates you need.

ANiceNurse - Is there any way you could have DD check some dates for me? I will be on the CP starting Sept 4th and my parents are looking at coming down October 18-22. They really want to stay at either a Moderate or Deluxe. Is there any way you would PM which resorts still have the discount for the time frame and possibly the discounted prices for some deluxe and moderates? Thanks a Bunch

Honestly, It probably was helpful - towards your sis.
There is A LOT that she will be doing before she goes down there, and the first couple of days she is there. It's A LOT to expect her to make the reservation the first day there. I mean - she'll be in a totally new world trying to get comfortable!
I know from experiance.....

She actuallly emailed me telling me that she wants to make the reservation the first second she is there to make sure I can come visit her. She begged me to buy my plane ticket so it would be set in stone that I would have to come see her! You don't understand our relationship, we are extremely close and she is more or less freaking out (as am I) that we won't be seeing each other on a daily basis. There's more to it than you know. :thumbsup2

What type of dining plan are you talking about? If your sister is with you and you eat at a restaurant in a hotel you will get a discount off the bill (not including alcohol or tip).
Also, your sister can get you in to the parks for free up to 6 times. You won't have a need for tickets unless you go more than that, and even then she can get you a ticket with up to a 40% discount. Also, she gets a merchandise discount.
There might be blackout dates, but I don't think those apply during the dates you'll be down there.
Oh, and I contacted Disney myself about questions for family members staying at the resorts. Your sister will have to book your room through the Cast Portal. She will have to go by the hotel within 10 days of your arrival to confirm that she is a Cast Member and verify the reservation. That should be all that is needed for the discount.
Have a good trip!!

!!
Unless they changed something out of the blue, you don't get a a maingate aka the 6 times free. I believe it's one or two days. And the tickets are less than 10% off. Not even fulltime or salaried get THAT much off tickets.
As for the dining plan, unless you eat a lot, I'd skip it. It's really only good for people who want two "real" meals a day. Since you'll be by yourself you would be sitting at a nice sit-down place by yourself everyday, since you sister will probably be working most days, or at least some.

Was going to second that CM discount is 10%, not 40% off tickets. Not sure how many entrances she will get, but I think it's less than 6 on the college program. The room will be cheaper if she stays with you than if she books it for you and she's not listed as being in the room.

We've taken my niece (DL CM) 3 times and used her room discount. Unless they have changed it, there is no discount on value resorts. Only moderates and deluxe. We got 50% of both so when you figure it the 50% off moderate makes it less than value regular price. Also, we went in Jan. and no, we could not get the DDP. It's not offered to CM. We did use her maingate pass to get in but she's been working at DL for over 3 yrs.
Hope this helps.

This is from wdwcollegeprogram.com for CMs who log in.
Cast Members may book rooms at a discount of up to 40 percent for their use or for friends and family
On top of your Walt Disney World Cast Member ID which allows you Theme park admission to the Magic Kingdom® Park, Epcot® Disney-MGM Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park and a Main Entrance Pass that allows you to admit as many as three friends or family members in to our theme parks six times during your program, you have the ability to purchase Magic Your Way tickets at Company D stores, which are Cast Member-only stores, for a discounted rate.

CPs can get their discount on the Value resorts as well as any of the other resorts ~ discounts range from 25% or 40% (friends and family) to 50% (CM staying in the room also). Just depends upon what's available at the time.
The discount on passes bought at Company D is only 10%.
CPs started getting the blue main gate passes with 6 admissions sometime last year. They also still get the 2 white one-day passes - my daughter just got hers in the mail yesterday.

White passes are just an entry for one person, one time, or maybe it's three, I can't remember. I barely used my 12 times up I gave my white passes away to some friend's family.
No far on the maingate for CMs, I just got one pass while on my CP. I knew that Seasonal CMs were getting them.
As for Value, any CM can get a discount on any room, at any resort. Sometimes it's 50, sometimes it's only 10. It also depends if the CM will be in the room or not. Sometimes there's only rooms left when the CM isn't in the room. The portal is WONDERFUL, and I miss it a lot! I think it was last year they even did something so you could buy the Dining plan for 35 bucks a day, not too bad!

The big difference between the main gate pass and the white pass is ~~
With the white one-day pass the CM does not need to be present when the pass is used. The white passes are for one-day with park hopping included & do have an expiration date.
