Hello everyone. I am 16 years old, and have been battleing the weight since I was a young child. Currently, I weigh 275 pounds, and have stage two hypertension, high cholesterol, and am at risk for developing type two diabetes. I need to lose about 150 lbs to be in the ideal range for my height (109-132 lbs), and will hopefully acheive this by eating right, and exercising daily.

I just wanted to wish you well with your weight loss. I started weighing more than you do now and I was able to lose the weight in about 16 months. WISH was a big part of my success. You can do it!

Keypooh - :welcome: :welcome: to the WISH boards on DIS. You have already taken the biggest step that you needed to take. You admitted that you have the desire to be healthier. Now, you need to have a plan of attack. First suggestion is to not think about needing to loose 150 pounds. That can seem overwhelming and to a lot of people, even impossible. That will make you get discouraged very easily and then, you would decide to quit before you even get started. Think about loosing 25 pounds. This is more managable and not as intimidating.
Second, fine people that you can trust and even respect to hold you accountable. For a few people, this can be a negative influence but for most, this is a positive influence that will keep you motivated during any of the trials that you may encounter. As the previous poster stated, there are several threads here that their main goal is to keep you motivated, encouraged and informed in your quest for a healthier lifestyle. There are so many on this site that has been where you are and they have succeeded. Find them and others that are trying to loose to find out what worked for them so it can work for you as well.
Most important, DON'T GIVE UP! My motto is IF YOU BELIEVE, YOU CAN ACHIEVE!! :grouphug: :woohoo: :cheer2:

keypooh -- welcome to WISH and kudos for your strength in sharing your story with us. we are here to help you and encourage you -- believe me it's two ways. i will need some inspiration in the future no doubt and then you can be here for me :)
i agree with the suggestion of making mini-goals -- have you thought about that yet? try not to overwhelm yourself with the big picture, break it down into small changes that you feel you can do. like drinking 84 oz of water every day, or walking around your block. once that feelsl like the routine, you can focus on adding something else. you can do this!!

Hi keypooh90,
I am new here too and just wanted to wish you the best and lots of encouragement. It is hard when you are so young but it is great that you are aware of the health issues and risks. I have struggled with my weight all of my life and I know it is difficult when you have siblings, friends, etc. who are thin. It gets downright depressing. Just remember you are worth it and you are on the right track. What a great mindset you have. Let us know how you are doing. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

KeyPooh, We are here for you! Start by taking short walks. Then every day walk a little longer. You don't have to start off trying to run a marathon, just try a little everyday to get your body used to it. And if you fall off the horse and eat something that's bad for you, just brush it off and get right back on. You are still young enough to get a handle on this. Don't wait until you are old like me because it gets a lot harder. If you need someone to talk to I am here. May I ask what diet are you on? Keep your head up, You can do it!!!! :thumbsup2
