OK, this sounds stupid but in what currency does everyone take TCs for Spain ? Sterling or Euro ?
In the last 6 years I've only been to Europe for weekend breaks so have always taken cash or used the cash machines. However, been to Orlando 4 times in that period so used to taking $$ TCs and just using them as cash.
Off to Menorca next week so what's best ? It's so long since I've been to the Med for a 2-week break that I've forgotten !!

I haven't been on holiday in Europe for so many years I don't know. We always used to take our TC's in the local currency ie Francs, Pesatas, Drachmas etc so I would assume it would be best to take them in Euros's now - assuming they are available!!! :teeth:

I guess we'll have the same situation when we go to Italy :sunny:
The alternatives, I suppose, would be cash, travellers cheques (which you would need to change at a bank / hotel) or visa.
Most travel agents carry large amounts of Euros but not sure what TC to take :confused3
Cash machines, although useful, will probably charge for a withdrawal :)

We don't bother with travellers cheques for Europe any more. We just take cash & withdraw more form cash machines when & if needed.

Is there a charge though from the cash machines?
Guess it's probably little more than the commission charge on the TC though :confused3

Don't know if this is too late for the OP but if you do take travellers cheques take sterling ones as you will get a slightly better rate over there. Persaonlly I don't always bother as I just use the ATMs but it does stop you from overspending if you do. As the ATMs charge a fee I just usually get larger rather smaller amounts from them.
I wouldn't recommend changing TCs at the hotel as they will charge you commission and probably pay a lower rate too. Many shops now do exchange at pretty good "commission free" rates so you can shop around for the best.
