I have booked a stay at BWV and just looked at the map. It appears that the rooms are no where near the actual boardwalk? Do you just get a view of the boardwalk (if you are lucky) and hike over to it? How long of a walk to the boardwalk from the villas? I assumed by the photos that the rooms were located ON THE BOARDWALK just above the shops and restaurants.

To quote a beloved Richyams, depending where your room is, the walk can be very

:rotfl:  LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG :rotfl:

But it is a great resort.

If you booked a "boardwalk view" which is a guarenteed room type, you will be right over the Boardwalk. However, you'll need to go sort of around the building or through the lobby to get there, since there is not (to my knowledge) direct access onto the Boardwalk from the Villas.

Preferred View villas generally face the pool or canal.

Standard View villas generally fact the porticullis.

BW and SV are only about 20% of the resort apiece, generally book quickly, and are guarenteed room types - SV because its a point bargain, BW because its one of the premier views at WDW.

If you look here:

http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/bwalk2.jpg

The purple rooms right above the yellow rooms face the Boardwalk. The rooms on the same left hand side of the purple shape North of the Lobby area (at least North map wise, I don't know if that is actually North, suspect it isn't) are the standard view rooms. The other side of the hall from all those rooms are preferred view - including the wings.

The resort is large (no larger than AKL) and it may be a hike to get from a room at the far end of the resort to the lobby.

(I think a few of the sales center converted rooms have direct access to the Boardwalk).

BWV has three view classifications that are confirmed when a reservation is made. There is a Preferred View Boardwalk with the rooms that actually look out over the boardwalk.

There is Preferred View Water & Garden which run along the canal behind BWV and overlook the pools or canal.

There are Standard View villas which primarily are along the front driveway area. These villas are very popular because they cost less points.

Keep in mind that even a boardwalk view room can have a pretty good walk to the boardwalk. Depending on where the room is, you might still have some long hallways and an elevator to negotiate to get there.

Pluto,

You bring up a good point to consider when booking a room overlooking the boardwalk when you mentioned that it would be noisy. Generally speaking - how late does it stay noisy?

Depending on exactly where the room is , I like to use the stairway that exits out at the ATM machine right next to Screen Door!?!?

one I'm on the boardwalk , two I can get more cash :thumbsup2

Pluto,

You bring up a good point to consider when booking a room overlooking the boardwalk when you mentioned that it would be noisy. Generally speaking - how late does it stay noisy? We were there in May. We were on the second floor, right on the boardwalk across from the Hoop Toss area. With the sliders closed, we could hear a little bit of noise from the boardwalk but it wasn't a problem. The boardwalk attractions close at 11pm so things got very quiet after that time.

We were there Sun-Thur nights and Thursday night was noticeably noisier than earlier in the week. We did hear some noisy revelers coming from JellyRolls early one morning around 2am.

We were there for two weeks, and had to split our stay between two villas.

The first week, we were on the first floor, all the way at the end, near the Atlantic Dance Hall. We had a pleasant view of the canal and bowling green, right outside our door. Sometimes we'd just slip out the door at the end of the hall, and find ourselves right ON the Board Walk. Not bad! Except we needed to be closer to the lobby, to get buses or boats. Sigh. Most of the time, we schlepped to the lobby using the inside hall -- and as my wife remarked one morning, during one of our long treks, "This must be why they call it the BORED walk..." :lmao:

If you get one of THOSE rooms, and you accidently forget something and need to go back to your room mid-trek...it's not pretty. :furious:

The second week, we were on the 5th floor, just a few doors down from the elevator. I was a much happier camper. :teeth:

We use that one too....but it leads out onto the Village Green, not the Boardwalk (but at that distance, its reall a nitpick.......)

please don't let this quote scare you. We've stayed at all the DVC on site resorts and if you forget something at any of them it's a pretty good walk back to your room at all of them. Some of them you even have to get out of your car and go back :rotfl: the only diff. is at least at BWV your in the AC hall to do it. :teeth:
A lot of people complain about the walks to the rooms at BWV but GEE if they don't like walking why are they at WDW :confused3

You found my secret exit as well! Keeps me close to my friends in the cooler section of the Screen Door! When overlooking the pool there are also stairways on the side wings leading down to the first floor, then the walk is quick and easy out through the pool area, past the Gym and the arcade into the center court by the art gallery.

But, we have stayed on the Boardwalk several times now (the last trip on the second floor right above Thimbles and Threads). Our five year old who is very aware when the party is still going on around her, has never had trouble going to sleep. The main noise I generally heard was the whistle from the Friendship boats. Otherwise with the doors closed the noise was not disturbing at all and I am a light sleeper. It seemed to tail off around 11 and then pick up briefly when Jellyrolls let out.

my complaint against the other exit is that even with a key sometimes (most of the time for me) they won't let you back in.....

when some of the other exits do (the ones not a staircases)

so getting back to your room can be a pain....

That stairway behind Screen Door at the ATM seems to only let you out, not back in. CMs prop it open during the day, but I have had issues getting back into that one. The others have generally been open or accessible with the room key.

Thank you for your explanation with reference to the map. We have a SV room booked in August and I have never really understood which rooms they were. I am a very visual person and now have an understanding of what to expect for location.

We have stayed at the BW twice and I am currently planning our 3rd trip for August.
1st time, we were so lucky to get a village green view on check-in. Wow. Right near the elevators, laundry, excellent view of Epcot, MK fireworks... yet, it WAS noisy.
2nd time we had pool view on the 4th floor, again near the elevators, again a 30 second walk to everything.
This upcoming trip - very, very lucky to get a SV for our entire vacation. We are going to be out in the middle of nowhere. We have friends that have stayed SV, some of the rooms are to the north and some to the far south. I don't care, though, as long as I get an upper floor and non-smoking.

I suggest, that if there is concern to have your preferences listed on your reservation (near laundry, upper floor, near elevator). If you don't ask, you don't get.

The beauty of BWV's and BCV's is the relative location to MGM and Epcot. BWV can be rough if you need the elevator, but if you can hike the stairs (my choice), even the last room on the hall (just had it, room 4135 1-bedroom) is extrememly close to MGM. I find the only thing I use the boardwalk proper for is Jogging and getting to my destination, not for actual recreation.

I see no reason to ever stay at any of the other resorts, as transportation becomes an issue much more often. The 1/2 mile walk to MGM/Epcot is a welcome start/end to the day, and the rooms continue to be in darn good shape for us.

When booking my trip to the BWV i asked for a specific room type and they said they can only request views in the notes but nothing is for sure. I was confused because in this thread many say that there are booked room types. We booked a two bedroom villa would that have anything to do with the fact that we do not get to choose the view type?

If you are staying in the DVC section, you book either a studio, one bedroom, two bedroom, or grand villa. At BWV, you also request a "view" or "location" which are standard (overlooking parking lot usually), preferred (pool view or canal, or courtyard), and Boardwalk (overlooking the boardwalk). Preferred and Boardwalk views are more points than the standard views.

Are you a DVC member or are you paying cash? Maybe cash customers cannot specify a view?:confused3

Cash customers that want a chance of a overlooking the Boardwalk need to either rent from a member (11 months prior to arrival) or book at the BWI (hotel side of the resort).

CRO reservations do not specify a view. You get whatever members don't book. Members almost always book up boardwalk and standard view, so CRO reservations usually get pool/garden.

I've actually gotten the exact same studio, preferred view, above Muscles and Bustles twice now. It was on the top floor, 2 doors down from the elevator. It is an incredible location, but it was actually noisier than my boardwalk view villa!
I stayed on the 5th floor, boardwalk view in Oct, right over Big River Brew...it was pretty quiet and not a bad walk from the elevators..not a quick walk though.
The one time I had to pack a picnic lunch for the trip to my villa was when I was in a one bedroom villa, looking out over the quiet pool, towards the S/D. We were 4 doors from the tennis courts end of the bldg...235 steps from the elevator!!! Yes, I counted. Had to do something to occupy my mind as I trudged to or from the elevators. But, I have to say it was much quicker getting to the quiet pool or MGM because we could use the stairs at the end of the hall.

I really believe noise at BWV is relative. For us, it was noticable but not disturbing - even with the doors closed. But for my parents, who live in the middle of nowhere and are used to nothing but the noise of crickets, I would think what we found noticable would be disturbing - they find the sounds of traffic you can hear from my house disturbing - the freeway is a mile away. I think it also makes a big difference what schedule you operate on - if you are trying to get kids to bed from 9:00 pm (when Illuminations starts - and the fireworks are noisy throughout all of the Epcot area), through about 10:30 during busy seasons (when the last of the Illuminations crowds starts to clear the Boardwalk - visiting Seashore Sweets for Ice Cream, picking up a t-shirt at the shops, stopping by for a nightcap at ESPN, the Boardwalk can be a noisy place. If you are out in those crowds yourself, and heading back to your room at 10:15, you aren't likely to notice it at all.

The only time I had a problem with noise in a boardwalk view was when I stayed in a 1 bedroom over Big River on the 2nd floor last June. People stood out on the boardwalk talking and laughing (and drinking I assume) until past 1:00am. Other times I was on the 4th or 5th floor, it wasn't bad.

For the future how do i go about contacting those who do want to rent?
I know nothing of this membership. I have only been to WDW three times as a small child and this will be my first trip with my daughter. so im a lil rusty when it comes to all the latest things going on. DVC i assume stands for Disney Vacation Club? LOL

Did you have to listen to the ringing bell at the basketball toss until 11 like I did?? At least it stopped no later than that!! And I was on the top floor!!! But I have to agree...those leaving JellyRolls at closing could be a tad on the noisy side.

Head over to the Rent and Trade section of the DVC boards. You'll get a fair amount of info there, as well as seeing what people have to offer.

We stayed in room 4031 and it was a Studio with a Boardwalk view. This was our view of the boardwalk. It was a nice walk from the elevators each way but that's OK the view was well worth it.

We were on the 5th floor and I did hear that bell. The first couple nights I thought it was a phone ringing somewhere. My DH finally figured out it was coming from a game on the Boardwalk.
