I've decided that since I love being on the Dis so much, that this would be the perfect place to write my on-line journal of weight loss, fitness and lifestyle changes. I'll share some info about myself during the next couple of days. Support and comments are welcomed. I find this board very motivational and I'm excited to begin this journey!

Let me introduce myself...My name is Denise, I'm 52, live in South Jersey (very close to Philly) love going to WDW as we all do,and need to lose about 50 lbs.My DD and I took a short trip to WDW in May, where I had my wake-up experience. I've had osteo-arthritis in my knees for years now, and the condition has slowed me down quite a bit, but never has kept me from participating in the activities that I enjoy. Unfortunately, during this trip, that's exactly what happened. After a day in the MK, and a day in AK, my knee went out just from stepping the wrong way. The next day, my daughter insisted that I get a wheel chair for our day in Epcot. I fought her about it, but finally relented because I knew my very slow limp would keep her from enjoying the park. I decided then and there that I didn't want to have this happen to me in the parks again, so I needed to get serious and take control of my poor eating habits and lack of exercise. In the past couple of weeks, I've made some small changes to my lifestyle to help me become more healthy, and I'm very happy about that. My knee is feeling somewhat better, so I'm also healing from that injury. I literally have to take baby steps in this journey, so your support is much appreciated!

Started using the Calorie King website today. It has lots of great info and easy to use food lists for counting calories. Seems to be user friendly and something that I can stick with. I also drank water today in place of diet soda. Don't know if I can do that every day, but I'm pleased with today's efforts. Had a salad for dinner instead of a hoagie or pasta dish at a local Italian place. Today was a good day!

Welcome! :wave2: The small changes that you make will make a HUGE difference! My dad has knee problems, so I can empathize with you. I have seen his struggles and I know what you are going through. You will be amazed at how much better you will feel just by taking off a few pounds! Good luck on your journey and keep it up! :thumbsup2 Karyn

:welcome: Denise! I’m glad you’re here! The WISH boards are a source of great inspiration for me and hopefully they will be for you too! :sunny:
You have taken the first and most important step by deciding to lead a healthier lifestyle! :cheer2: You seem to be off to a great start also w/ drinking water and making better choices while eating out! I think that eating out is one of the hardest challenges, so if you can get that down you can do anything! :thumbsup2
I see you have joined the walking to Disney challenge. How far is it for you? Have you considered joining any of the other challenges? I am not sure how much exercise you can do w/ your knee problems, but I really like the exercise challenges. You can just sign up for however many minutes that you think you can manage in the month.
Good Luck and Keep up the Good work! Have a Great weekend! :sunny:

Thanks so much for the nice welcomes! I haven't visited the Walking to Disney challenge lately because of the problems with my knees, but I intend to get back there again and re-start my mileage record. Our next trip will be Jan.2007 to BCV. Wouldn't it be great if I could rack up all those miles?
I had a rough time at work today with goodies. One of our reps brought in pastries and I just couldn't refuse. When I checked the calorie content I was shocked, but I ate a nice salad for lunch and even refused the bread, so it sort of balanced out. I've started doing the stretching exercises that I was given at physical therapy last year. We're going to Hershey park on July 8 & 9, so hopefully that will prepare me somewhat. Hershey has a lot of seated show attractions, so maybe I'll stick with those if my knees are too creaky. I'm so glad the weekend is here.I'll have some time to organize my food choices for the week and get some grocery shopping done.

Hi Denise!
I have also just recently started using a journal to help me on my journey!
I work in fast food, and this site REALLY helps me to get thru the meal times! My DH also will send me dinners so I stick to those healthy meals rather than modified fast food. I just thank my stars I don't work anywhere near pastries. I couldn't do it. It is hard enough having gone on a glueten/wheat/flour free diet since January without all those extra temptations going on! I would never be able to do it!
I have osteo-arthritis in my spine from poor mechanics, which I am working on very hard. I limped thru my last visit to WDW, but I am on track to enjoying walking on my next in 2 years!
Good luck and keep taking those baby steps! And have many more good days!

Thanks for the encouragement Wendy!
We went to our nephew's high school graduation party today. I made some good food choices...chicken breast without a roll, broccoli salad, veggie sticks, diet soda, but then I made the mistake of sitting at the table with the pretzels and sour cream and onion chips. I had way too many of them! I have no idea how many I consumed, so how do I count them in my food diary? I guess I'll just write down the foods that I can count and just list the others as additional items without portion amount. I feel good about refusing the cake for dessert. We had a really nice time there visiting with friends and family that we hadn't seen in awhile.
I'm down 1.5 lbs. today!

I've been using Calorie King for almost a week now, and I am happy to say that it's a great tool for keeping me on track. I did some smart grocery shopping this week and took the time to prepare food to take to work. The only thing that I've purchased from the vending machine was a small bag of pretzels.I've also continued with my stretching program and feel that my knee pain is improving. Next week, I'll start my walking program. Thursday is my weigh-in day, and I know that I've lost a few pounds. I'll share my results tomorrow. I know that my planning ahead has helped me stay on track.

I did my first weekly weigh-in and I'm happy to say that I have lost 4 lbs. I've been consistent with my journaling, but my food choices need some work. I'm sticking within my suggested calorie range, but not always eating the healthiest choices. For instance today, a co-worker decided to treat us to fresh from the oven soft pretzels, and I can't believe that I had 2. (those of you from the Phila. area know the temptation.) After downing the pretzels, I compromised my healthy choices later in the day just to save calories.Ugh! When I do my grocery shopping this week, I need to expand my healthy selections for more variety. I'm nervous about this holiday weekend with all the socializing and the food and drink temptations. Whenever I spend time at my friend's pool, we always enjoy a couple of wine coolers or frozen drinks. I suppose I'll have to come up with a reduced calorie version. I need to get creative!

Denise, I too find the diet the hardest. I have eliminated breads and such, and it has made a big difference. It's the sugars that I tend to be bad with. We are having dinner at our house for the holiday, so that I can control what's on the table. Sure helps!
Good luck this weekend and have a great holiday!

I did fairly well yesterday for the first day of the weekend. We spent the day with friends and had lunch at a restaurant where I chose a turkey club with fries, but gave most of them to my hubby. Later in the evening , my son and his fiancee came over, so we grilled for them. I passed on the hot dogs and burgers and had dessert. Peach mango smoothie frozen yogurt-200 calories for a cup, and boy was it yummy! Not sure what's happening today...probably spending some time with my Mom and sister. Whatever we do should be fun since its the weekend!!!! Enjoy your day everyone and make some smart choices when it comes to food!

I've had a rough couple of days with all the holiday eating and socializing. Time to get back on track tomorrow. It will be much easier when I take my little prepared meals to work. I'm bordering on feeling really crappy about myself, but need to get over that and remember the good things that I've done. I suppose that I picked the wrong day to go bathing suit shopping (gotta laugh) but I did buy one which I really like from the Delta Burke collection. I love being in the water so I resigned myself years ago to enjoy the pool and beach and not worry about what others think. Hope everyone enjoyed the 4th and did something patriotic and community oriented. We went to a neighboring community for some activities. We're watching the Phila Welcome America broadcast right now. We probably should have hopped on the train and rode across the river and joined in the fun, but it just gets soooo crowded. We've been there and done that! When the wind is blowing in the right direction, we can hear the fireworks from Phila.-kind of like a simulcast. Enjoy your night and stick with your programs!!!!!

Decided to set daily goals for myself. Today, I'll drink 8 glasses of water. I also need to get tougher and refuse the snacks that my co-workers are always bringing in. Sometimes my office seems like a big junk food buffet. For example...yesterday everybody brought in their 4th of July leftovers. We had way too many desserts sitting there.Sometimes I think there's a conspiracy against me. I turned around after taking a phone call and a piece of chocolate cake was sitting in my "in" bin.
Today is my day to "Just say no!"

Good luck Denise! It does sound as if your co-workers just aren't concerned with your desire to be healthy. Just say no is a great way to start! It took a while to get my best friend to understand that I was changing everything, not just selected segments. She understands now, and even helps to make sure that if we meet for lunch, it is somewhere that has a sensible menu. I think I encourage her to be healthier.
Best wishes!

We had dinner at the Silver Diner tonight. Of course the menu is loaded with typical diner and comfort foods. I searched their website before we went to try and find something that was a healthy choice. I decided to order the summer fruit and spinach salad with salmon on the side. It was an odd combination, but pretty good. I find I need to try some different items so that I don't get stuck in a food choice rut. I also had a little chocolate fix at work today...the new Hershey's Kisses with coconut. Those darn co-workers, and me with little will power!
To make matters even worse (or better depending how you look at it), we'll be going to Hershey this weekend. I have that Chocolate World jingle playing in my head already! The picnic buffet includes burgers, hot dogs, chicken, salads and ICE CREAM!!!! I find myself having cravings for that recently...maybe I need the calcium. Yeah right! WISH me luck!

I SURVIVED HERSHEYPARK!!!!!
I am happy to report that my knees survived all the walking, waiting and hills at Hersheypark. My hubby and I set a nice leisurely pace for ourselves, so that I didn't over-stress my knees. I also took Aleve in advance and during our trip to ward off any inflammation. I did wear my elastic brace on Sunday, just as a precautionary measure. Funny thing is...my calf muscles are what ended up sore from all the hills. We had a great time, and can't wait till next summer's trip. By then I should be quite a bit lighter and all that walking will be a piece of cake! (chocolate of course!)
My DH had a dr. appt. today in preparation for cataract surgery next week. His blood sugar level is at the high end of normal, so the dr. suggested that he cut back on carbs. We've decided to tackle the problem together, so any suggestions on low-carb eating and books would be much appreciated. I have a check-up next month also, and I'm a little worried that my levels will be up too. I just love pretzels and breads and crackers and bagels and all that high carb stuff. I do think that making the dietary changes will be easier if we have each other's support.
I did some grocey shopping and made some healthier choices and also bought a wider variety of things to eat at work. I don't eat breakfast at home, so I stocked up on yogurt, cottage cheese, lo-fat puddings, multi-grain crackers and some other things that are easy to grab and also count the calories. It will be nice when all of the changes in my lifestyle come together and become second nature. Right now I still have to think and plan and change so many of my old bad habits. I know changes like this can't happen overnite, but sometimes its difficult to be patient for the weight to drop and to have more energy, etc. It helps to know that those of you who making these same changes are here for support!
Thanks for reading my journal and all your support! We can do this together!!!

Hello Denise!
Sounds like you had a great weekend!
I eat pretty much low carb. Fresh above the ground veggies, and good cuts of beef, fish and other fresh meats. My DH follows something similar to South Beach. Their cook book has some good ideas in it. It takes a while to get the hang of shopping tho. We just tour the outer isles of the grocery store, rather than go down all the isles. Keeps lots of those bad carbs out of view. It was REALLY hard to lose pasta, but go into the glueten free section if there is one, and you can get pasta made from corn (a bit different, but helps with the urges) and other lower carb foods. The eating changes we have made were a big help with my weight loss.
Good luck on shopping and with surgery for DH!

I've been having a problem with fluid retention for the last couple of days, which is strange because I don't normally have issues with that. The weather has been very hot and humid so I'm sure that might be contributing to the problem. So...I've cut back on salt and propped up my feet for awhile.
We're going to take my Mom to Bahama Breeze on Sat. for her BD. I've been looking at the menu on-line trying to find a healthy choice. Unfortunatley their website doesn't give calorie counts and nutritional info.
DH and I decided to start a committed walking program together, right now its kind of hit or miss. We do wear our pedometers every day, but for me the mileage is adding up very slowly. Time to MOVE!!!!
Thanks for stopping by Wendy. I appreciate your suggestions! Have a super Friday everyone! The weekend is almost here.

Well, the weekend is almost over, so I'm planning my activities for the upcoming week. The weather forecasts extreme heat and humidity, so I've decided to take my walking indoors. I can go to the local mall on my lunch hour and fit in a good half hour walk, or stop on my way home at another mall near my house and do my walking there. Either way, there are no weather related excuses.
I need to get back to journaling daily. I write most things in my little notebook, but then don't get around to entering it on Calorie King. CK is great, easy to use and I love the progress and nutrition reports.
My fluid retention has gone away...that was a weird few days. Still haven't lost any more weight, but I'm hanging in there. My BD is at the end of the month, so I've set a mini goal for that date.
My son and finance have decided to go to WDW and DCl for their honeymoon in Aug. of 2007. As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. We honeymooned at WDW in 1974, and my DD in 2004. DS has decided on the Poly. Its been fun helping them out with their planning. By the way, he's done extremely well with weight loss in the last few months...40 lbs. He works out regularly which is something that he never did before. What a diiference he's made in his lifestyle. I'm so proud of him!
Have a great week everyone! Make smart choices and enjoy your life!

I accomplished my goal today of entering my foods on Calorie King. I'm pleased to say that I was only a little bit over my suggested calorie goal for the day. I've added more fruits and plan to have more salads with raw veggies. (I AM NOT A VEGGIE EATER) This part is going to be really tough for me. I'm also going to search for recipes for grilled veggies...marinades and such. Does anyone have a favorite? Hubby and I are eliminating the potato, rice, starch portion of our meals. We're also reading labels and just becoming more informed with regards to carbs and calorie counts.
Goals for Tuesday...Walk the mall at lunch and our neighborhood with DH later
Do my physical therapy stretches
Use CK and not go over my calorie count

I took the day off because my hubby-Gary had cataract surgery this morning. Everything went well, and I'll take him for a follow-up tomorrow morning. Its nice to have a few hours in the daytime to do as I please. He's just relaxing and taking it easy. He's wearing a patch over his right eye. I should probably look for his "pirate" accessories from last year's MNSSHP, it would complete the look. He's a real comedian so he would think that is funny. I'm suprised he's not using pirate phrases and going "arrgh". LOL! pirate:
I've been faithfully recording on Calorie King and even stayed under my calorie limit. I just realized that when I log exercise on my daily totals, that I can add more food to the plan. I've decided not to do that but it helps to know that some additonal calories are ther if I "need" them. I do need to do some more exercise today. I walked around the grounds at the surgi-center while I was waiting this morning, but then my book kept saying "read me". And that I did..just finished it a little while ago.
Good luck and good losses to all. Hang in there!

Denise, I have been to calorie king to help my DD, who wants to eat better, but not really get thin? She is a bit chubby, but she is only 10. I really hope to have her start being aware of the foods she eats as it pertains to her overall health, not just her shape. Any other ideas on web sites you have visited that has more info on nutrition for her age? All I find is adult sites. I am not that computer/internet savvy. And I really try not to ask the 17 yr old son! I get teased for days!
Thanks Denise!
Glad to hear the surgery for DH went well. Maybe he really is a pirate? Have you seen the new POTC movie? Maybe he can qoute some of the funnier lines for you? pirate:

Hi Wendy...I did a quick search on Google for nutrition for children and many sites came up on the search. One that looked good was-nutritionforkids.com.
It has resources for kids, parents and teachers. I also noticed that it has links to a bunch of other sites. Check it out, it might have some good info. I'm a big-time reader, so you could also try your local library.
I know exactly what you mean about asking your son for help. Mine is a techno wiz, and it started a a very early age. Anytime I would ask him for help on the computer, he would just click away and I had no clue as to how he found the things that I needed. He graduated college in 2004 and landed himself a nice job at the university he attended, so I guess I'll forgive him for being impatient with me. He also bought me the laptop that I'm using, and have become very attached to.
Haven't made it to Pirates as of yet, but my DD and niece went at midnight on the night that it opened, and they both really liked it. Our local park had Jaws on a big screen last week, so of course all day long DH was quoting lines from that. I am always amazed at how he can remember all of those lines, and he's really good at impersonations too.
Have a good Thursday! Denise

Since she is more computer whiz than I am (she's only 10) I will just watch over her shoulder while she cruises thru it all :goodvibes !
My DS also went at midnight on opening night. He is still asking for the monkey because he needs to shoot something! Your DD will know! And Jaws--I remember going to see it the week it came out! Does that age me? I wasn't but 12. Still left a huge imprint on me, because the next week my Dad took us to N. Carolina's ocean parks to camp, and I wouldn't swim!

Today has been one of those lazy Saturdays. We're taking things easy since Gary is still recuperating from his eye surgery. Its been a stormy day, and we even lost our electricity for a couple of hours. Hopefully tomorrow will bring some pleasant weather so we can get outside and do some yard work.
I decided that I need to get back to Curves next week. My knee is pretty much back to normal (for me anyway), so I should be taking my workout routine to the next level. No more excuses! My Curves is 2 blocks from my house, so talk about being convienient! I can't use that as an excuse. I need to drop a couple more pounds this week to reach my birthday goal.
It was a stressful week at work...lots of changes are happening and I know things will get worse before they get better. I'll have to get inside my head and come up with a calming way to cope with it all. After all, its just a job. I need to focus on family, friends and fun after work!

I did it! I just registered for the American Heart Association Walk on October 7. I haven't done anything like this since Walk America back in the late 80's (when I was fit and trim). I figured this would give me a goal to work toward and support a great cause while I'm at it. My DH said he would walk with me, as long as he doesn't have to ask for sponsors. I feel really good about my decision to do this. Both my father and father-in-law died from heart attacks, so this is personal for me. Now I just need to get in training mode.

Wow, I can't believe I haven't posted in over a week! We've celebrated birthdays (with way too much eating) saw the Lion King (awesome), celebrated my future DIL landing a teaching job, and just a bunch of other busy things.
Time for me to get back on track. The weather has gotten slightly cooler in our area, so I plan to get out and walk in the evening. We'll be taking a mini-vaca later in the week at the Jersey Shore. I LOVE to walk on the beach early in the morning, so that will be fun! I just have to avoid all those boardwalk treats. Yeah right!
It's also time for me to schedule annual dr. appts, blood work, dental visits etc. Yuck! I really am kind of phobic and sqeamish when it comes to all that. Guess I'll start with the less traumatic and work up from there.
I do apologize to those of you whose journals I haven't visited lately. I'll get back into the swing of things and stop by to say hello. Have a great Sunday everyone and keep your goals in mind...you're worth it! Denise

I realized that today is only 2 months to the AHA walk on Oct.7. We'll be returning from our vacation to the Outer Banks and Busch Gardens on the first. It will be nice to do some "training" on the beaches in North Carolina.
Well, with that said, I walked 4.4 miles...at the mall during lunch and around the neighborhood this evening. I need to step up my training and walk whenever possible. Wearing a pedometer has really helped as an incentive. Its amazing how the steps add up just by doing everyday activities.
I started leafing thru an old Prevention Magazine book on walking . It's really a good source for those on walking programs. It has a daily log and lists different programs for varied fitness goals. I'm going to use it as I countdown to Oct. 7.I think I'll go read it now and get motivated!!!!
Have a good Tuesday everyone! Keep cool!

I know this is off topic, but Spirit Airlines is offering $16.00 fares to Orlando. I tried to get my hubby and daughter to go with me Sept.2-5, but they won't budge. DH says its too hot and DD says its her 2nd wedding anniversary on the 4th. Darn, darn, darn. I also tried the solo suggestion, but DH is worried about that. He promises me that we'll take advantage of one of those spur of the moment offers in the future. We have 3 day WDW passes remaining, and a Sea World -Busch Gardens annual pass which is good until Feb. Oh well, guess I'll have to get over this and move on. It was fun planning my imaginary trip for a couple of hours.
Hope everyone is doing well with their health and fitness quests. We won't talk about mine right now. Tomorrow brings a brand new day!

Its funny how a vacation can throw a healthy eating plan off track. We went down the shore for 3 days last week and I just blew any good habits that I had and just ate whatever I pleased. The only thing that I did that was good for me was walk on the beach. Then I came back to the job-related stress and just continued with the same pattern. Ugh!
Well now its a new week and I have new resolve. I have 5 weeks to prepare for our trip to the Outer Banks. I have to wear a bathing suit every day, and that's not the prettiest picture you'd want to see. We have both a pool and a hot tub at the house and miles of beautiful beaches that I can't pass up. I just love the shore! A bathing suit should be the least of my worries and being healthier a priority!
DH is at work right now. Yeah for OT! My son and his intended will be here around 11, so I'll be making some type of brunch. Today, I will take 1 minute at a time, record what I eat and stay in my calorie range. Ther's a yard sale around the corner that I might just have to visit also.
Make it a beautiful day everyone, have fun, and be healthy!
In your last post, your attitude is so positive!!! :thumbsup2 It's people like you who help me stay on track. Thank you! I just know you'll lose weight before your big trip and you'll enjoy the beaches and hottub with a smile on your face. Regardless of how many pounds you lose by then, you'll know that you're becoming healthier and happier. Way to go!! Hope you had a great time with your family.

Hey CJK...a belated thank you for stopping by. I've recently made a decision to be happier and more positive!!! It's so easy to get caught up in negative talk at work with everyone in bad moods and stressed about their work load etc. I found myself getting grumpy and old, and also bringing that mood home with me. I'm 53 and don't want to think of myself as an old f*rt. (Is that word allowed?) Hopefully I have many happy, and healthy years ahead of me. Hubby and I keep talking about retirement and the things we'd like to do, but I thought...why wait? Financially, we can't retire now but we can sure try to live a happy and somewhat carefree life. I don't mean to sound irresponsible, but I am really trying not to sweat the small stuff.
Well. enough said. The weekend is here and its time to have some fun. I'm enjoying a glass of wine and the Dis, what could be better? Hopefully tomorrow we'll take a ride to Chesapeake City and have lunch at the Chesapeake Inn. They always have outdoor entertainment so its a great way to spend a couple of hours. The town also has some quaint shops to browse about.
Everyone have a super weekend, and when you're feeling a little down, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again!

I hope you were able to enjoy your day in Chesapeake city! Good job trying to feel better by living life as if you're already retired! We should all live more like that. Thanks for your encouraging words. Here's to a great weekend for you too!

Hi DisDee! I've been on the WISH board, but today was my first trip over here to the journals. Your experience of your knee going out scared the bejeezus out of me! I'm about your age, and I love my solo trips to WDW. An experience like that could seriously hamper my trips. You've just given me added motivation to lose weight (10 lbs gone, 10 to go), eat healthier, and keep in shape. And I think it's a great idea to sign up for a walk for a cause you feel is important. It serves as added motivation, too. I'll have to keep my eyes open for one. Thanks for some great motivation!

Hey Simba's Mom...thanks for stopping by. I really appreciate it when others take the time to post on my journal! It's so nice to know that we're all in this together, and really does help with the motivation factor.
My laptop had to be sent out for repair, so I've been using our really slow old desktop for the past few days. I've used that as an excuse for not journaling on Calorie King. No more excuses, I'm back to journaling tomorrow, slow computer or not. My weight loss has stalled. I'm about 18 lbs. less than my all-time high weight, but I really need to jump-start another weight drop. I also need to move more. Seems like I waste alot of my lunch hours playing on the computer or running errands, when I should be using the time more wisely for ME.
The stress at work has lessened a little , which is a great thing. I actually left work today with just a couple of minor unfinished projects which is highly unusual. Most days I leave a mountain of papers on my desk. Thank heaven for little miracles!
Everyone, have a great Thursday! We're getting close to the long weekend!
Glad to hear the stress at work has lessened a bit. Hopefully you'll have some more time to focus on YOU! :goodvibes
I know what you mean about the computer!! It can be so addictive. Sometimes I think I spend too much time on it too, but then, I wouldn't have met all you fine people!! What's a gal to do! :teeth:
Hope you have a great long weekend!

I can't believe that summer has "unofficially" come and gone...but I must say I do love autumn and the beautiful colors that it brings. Today is my early day at work, so I thought I would Dis a little before I hit the road. We should have a full department today with everyone back from vacation and family leave. It's a very good thing!!!!! Only 2 1/2 weeks till our vacation in the Outer Banks, I may need to start packing...that makes it seem closer.
I'm still holding steady with no additional weight loss (or gain which is good!) I need to plan some strategies for this week, like stocking up on some lunch foods for work. That's one of my biggest problems...not being prepared. I've started carrying my thermos with ice so that I can have really cold water to drink. I enjoy it so much more that way.
Hope everyone has a nice week...at least its a short one! Think thin and healthy!

Hey, Simba's Mom...looks like it's our time to do some serious dieting pre-vacation, cause I know when it comes to vaca, there's a lot of eating involved.I see you'll be staying at BCV, which is where we'll be in Jan. You'll have to give us the details. I'm jealous...I miss WDW!!!!
I can't believe summer's basically over either!!! I'm still in denial!
It sounds like you've got a great plan for the week. Being prepared is the only thing that works for me. Have a great week and happy packing!!

I did it! I stayed within my calorie range today and also exercised for 30 min. Hubby and I took an after-dinner walk at a local park. It has a 1 mile walking path and I wanted to set my pedometer. I was happy to find out that it was only slightly off. I think I'll give myself 2 stars today...1 for food and 1 for exercise. It may sound childish, but those stickers on my calendar are another form of motivation for me.
I plan to go to Curves after work tomorrow. I wonder if anyone will recognize me? LOL!!!!! My knees held up rather well this weekend when we moved our son to his new apartment, so I'm sure I'll be ok at Curves...as long as I do the workout carefully.
It feels great to have reached my goals for today. I wish I could say that everyday. I'm going to try to journal more regularly too...it really does help.
I also need to read some other journals-very motivating. I'll be stopping by soon. Thanks for reading my ramblings!
Congrats on staying on goal for food and exercise!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: Isn't that feeling fantastic? I hope you enjoy Curves as well. Keep up the great work and have a great weekend!! :sunny:

Today was good. I stayed in my calorie range again, and still have a little left over if I want a small snack. Did the Curves workout very carefully, and they DID remember me. Seems like a bunch of the other members took a lot of time off this summer also. I've decided to treat myself to a couple of new workout outfits...something that makes me feel energized, not a sloppy old T-shirt. I think I'll do a little shopping this weekend, that should be fun!
Only one more day of work left.Thank heaven for holiday weeks! The weekend is almost here!!!!!!!
You know, the more I hear about CURVES, the better I think it is! It just sounds like such a motivating place. How great that people remembered you! Definitely go buy a new outfit or two. Nothing like looking cute to motivate you to work hard!! :thumbsup2 Have a fabulous weekend!! :sunny:

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my journal! Yep, going to curves on my birthday Thursday. DH wants to stop in and see what all the hulabaloo is about. I think he just wants to spend my birthday with me! We almost always spend my birthday together. I am going to be 29--well, for the 17th time! My DD is going to make me a flourless cake, since I no longer should have flour/gluten. She's practicing because she wants to be a pastry chef.
I have introduced my DD to calorie king. She wants to eat healthy, and this will help to track where the bad calories are and how easy it is to stay away from them when you know where they come from. She is just growing so much! She is only 10, but you wouldn't know it. Thank goodness she acts like a normal 10 yr old!
Have a great week, great losses, and great fun!

Ok, DisDee, where are you? If you're on vacation, I hope you're doing better than I did. I just couldn't resist all that gelato at BCV (pistacchio-I had it 3 X), the chocolate wave dessert-Heck, I never turned down a dessert. I'd post a picture, but it makes me drool just to see the picture again. Anyways, I gained back the 1 pound I'd lost so far in September and another pound for a total of 2 pounds. Considering all I ate, that really isn't too bad. I did keep my exercise up. Are you? If you haven't done the stairmaster before, I learned the hard way-don't go into it full blast! I did at AKL the first day, and boy, did I pay for the rest of the week! I called DH back home, and he suggested the hot tub and some easy walking, so that's what I did, and it helped a little. What made it hard to get out were the heat and the beautiful view from my BCV studio, so I spent a lot of time just chillin' on my balcony. Isn't this view beautiful?

Just a quick hello to those of you who have stopped by recently. We're on vacation in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Having a wonderful time while eating way too much, but we are walking quite a bit and enjoying the beautiful views of the ocean and sound. Tomorrow we plan to go visit some local towns on the mainland and do some antiqueing (just dh and myself...it's our date day) Right now there are 8 family members at our house, and tomorrow 2 of my DD's friends are joining us. We just love it here and wish we could afford a "cottage" but renting is fun too.
Hope everyone is well and staying healthy. I'll have to catch up when we get home.

I'm baaack! Had a really nice time on vaca until I started having some gyn problems. Yuck, that really put a damper on my last few days. We did make it to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg for their HalloScream event. Since we have an annual pass for BG Tampa Bay, our tickets were 50% off. It was great fun and I was feeling good that day. Things went from bad to worse though, I've been to my Gyn 5 times, had blood work, 2 ultrasounds, an endometrial biopsy and was on bed rest for 5 days. But... I'm feeling good again (must be the hormones), and I'm back to work. My test results should be back in the next couple of weeks. I may have to have a hysterectomy, but I'm OK with that. I won't be having any more kids at 53. LOL!
There was a plus side to all this...since I was a bundle of nerves, I didn't have much of an appetite, so I lost a few pounds. What a way to lose weight! My scare helped to reinforce the importance of being in good health. It was like another wake up call.
Hope all is well with everyone! I'll be catching up with your journals real soon.

We visited with our son and his future wife today. He started on his healthy weight loss and fitness plan back in April and has lost 70 pounds since that time. He looks like a new person! We're so proud of him and his commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
I decided to try out some different supermarkets in the area starting this week. We have a Wegman's, Trader Joe's and a Whole Foods nearby, so I thought it would be fun to add some variety to an otherwise boring task. I know that we tend to eat the same foods over and over again, so it's time to spice things up a little. Change is good!
I've been doing a little more planning for our Jan. trip. We'll be on the dining plan for 5 days, so I'm trying to narrow down my restaurant choices for dinner. I also want to try some new places. We all know that planning is a big part of the fun.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!!!!
BIG congrats to your son!! :cheer2: What an amazing accomplishment! Sounds like he's on the right track for beginning married life.
Happy trip planning! That's half the fun!! I wish I had a trip to plan too! LOL Ah well, I'll have to get going on my report. Have fun experimenting with the different grocery stores. Have a great week!

I can't believe how long its been since I've posted on my journal. I've had a bunch of ups and downs with my gyn problems over the past few weeks, but the good news is...my biopsy came back negative ,which was such a HUGE relief. I'm hanging in there and hoping all my irregularities straighten themself out in the next couple of months (with the help of meds). I just have to be in good health when we go to WDW in January.
I also had some routine blood work done with my primary. My blood sugar and cholestoral (sp?) are somewhat elevated, so I have to work on controlling both of these levels. I'm not at the point where I need medication, I just need to be smart about my diet and exercise. My Dr. was happy with my weight loss, but I need to continue to lose. Funny thing is, the weight that I've lost in the past month has really helped the arthritis in my knees. I've barely had any pain.
My Dr. has suggested that I take fish oil capsules as a supplement. Does anyone use these? She suggested that I freeze them, so the aftertaste isn't so bad.
Hope everyone is happy and healthy. I need to stop by and visit some journals and post more regularly myself.

Hi Denise! DH started taking fish oil capsules, but then he stopped, I never did find out why. I think they just weren't making much of any difference. That's great about the weight loss and your knees. My problem is that my right knee has gotten alot worse since my weight loss, but that's because of my exercise-all the walking. So I'm trying to adjust my exercise routine. Great news about your son!

My hubby and I did some grocery shopping this afternoon. We really took our time and read labels and did some much smarter shopping than usual. When we got home, I portioned my items that I bought to take to work, so I can just grab them tomorrow morning and pretty much have mini-meals for the entire week. I bought yogurt, fruit, soup, salad, veggies, reduced fat cheese and Healthy Choice entrees. (Hope I like them) I need my crunchie snacks, so I bought multi-grain crackers and pretzels, and sat here and counted each serving and put them in zip-loc bags. Normally, when we open a bag of pretzels or the like, they just magically disappear. I am also cooking some turkey chilli (with beans for fiber...I am not a bean person, but I'm trying), and made some veggie dip with light sour cream at 40 cal. a serving. I hope I can be this organized every week!
This isn't health related, but I wanted to share some fun info with all of you Disney and theater fans. My daughter had the opportunity to see Mary Poppins on Broadway last week. She works as a nanny for a member of the orchestra and he gave her 2 free tickets. The show is still in preview, and I believe it opens on Nov. 16. Lauren has been to many Broadway shows, and she just loved MP. She said the sets are wonderful and creative, and it's bound to be a big hit. She claims its her new favorite, and she wants to go again already. Its at the New Amsterdam Theater (Lion King). So...if any of you live near NYC or have future travel plans...this is the show to see! She was so excited about it, that I wanted to order tickets.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!!! The weather is cool but sunny here in southern NJ...a nice fall day!

Well here it is the weekend again...boy does time fly! I did pretty well this week with my eating plan. Thinking ahead and preparing foods to take to work really helped me stay on track. We did have dinner at the Cheesecake factory on Thursday, and it was way too good. I think it will be my new favorite restaurant!
We're trying to decide what to do for Thanksgiving. I started the new meds for my gyn problem, and according to my Dr., Thanksgiving will be the time when I have to be off my feet again. I think we'll just do a simplified version of a turkey dinner. Maybe cook a breast on the grill and go easy on the sides. One pie instead of 5 desserts. It will certainly be a healthier holiday.
DH is working some early overtime this morning, and when he gets home,we think we'll head down toward the Jersey shore. We'll hit some antique shops and go to Smithville (a shopping village with lots of neat shops where we can blow our hard-earned money).
I suppose its time for me to get started with all those little Sat. chores. Need to pay some bills, tackle the laundry and tidy up. Have a great weekend everyone!!!!!!

Had a really nice day today on our little shopping trip. We stopped at an antique mall, so I went browsing thru the books like I usually do. One booth had a special on cookbooks-4 for $10.00. I got a really neat Better Homes and Gardens Diet Cookbook-over 400 pages and in almost new condition, and 3 others that are great also. I've been flipping thru them to find some new recipes to try. I have to keep our meal planning interesting, so we don't get bored and revert back to our old bad habits.
Hubby went to bed early since he's working again tomorrow, so I decided to check out our Comcast On Demand fitness workouts. I found 3 that I'm going to do this week. My goal is to get up 1/2 hour earlier, do the workout and then get ready for work. I also plan to walk at lunch, either at the local park or mall depending on the weather.
We have to do some gocery shopping tomorrow, so its time to make my list.

I was thrilled to hear that, because I'm the type of person who does not talk about my weight and fitness goals at work. I'm going nuts at work with snacks! In the past 2 days, we've had birthday cake, pound cake, multiple Hershey bars (the Hershey Lodge is one of our customers), Key Lime Patties, Macadamia nut candies, and pretzels. Our dept. is snack food central...everyone knows that there is food to be found in customer service. I've passed on the cake , but not on the candy. I count my calories, and the goodies have really cut into my healthy eating plan. To top it off, this being the beginning of the holiday season, things are only going to get worse.I need a strategy to get thru this. We have many vendors that send in food gifts along with all the stuff my co-workers bring in. What's a fat girl to do???? I can't sabotage the progress that I've made to this point. I need to just say NO! Well, enough said about that, time to move on and think healthy. Tomorrow is bagel day, but I won't give that up, just plan it into my calorie count.

I had a cocktail dress listed on Ebay (didn't sell) that I had purchased when a local dept store went out of business, so it wasn't returnable. Anyway, the top was really snug, but I tried it on last night and it fits a little better. We have a wedding to attend in March, so I thought this might be a sign that I'm meant to wear this dress! I really do like it because the style is flirty and fun, not like the conservative stuff that I usually wear. So, WISH me luck on the dress.
We went to dinner last night because hubby and I both had stuff to do after work so it was just easier to meet for dinner. I took it easy though, and brought half of my entree home to have for lunch today. I know that might seem insignificant, but there was a time when I would devour everything with not a thought about the amount of calories that I was consuming.
Well, off to get ready for work. We're supposed to have very heavy rain later today, so I might have to walk at the mall.

My DH reminded me that we have just 2 months (Jan. 20) till our trip to WDW! I did a lot of work around the house this weekend-big time cleaning, and I hate to say that I am a little achy. Another wake up call to get in shape for WDW and life in general.
We celebrated our son Steve's 25th BD last night with dinner at Buca Di Beppo. It was lots of fun with our group of 9. One nice thing about the family-style service, is that I didn't have a huge plate full of food. I took little portions of several different things. I know that I was way over my calorie count, but I didn't walk away feeling stuffed and uncomfortable. It also helped that half of us who were there are eating more healthily these days, so It made things easier.
I'm watching the morning weather report as I type. Looks like this week is going to be a little chilly, so maybe I'll be walking indoors. Thankfully I have 2 malls where I can walk when the weather is lousy. Now I just have to do it!!!!!

We are not doing a big dinner, we are going to the movies to see a Christmas comedy with my mom in law and then we are coming home to have turkey sandwiches and a few veggies and relishes. There will be the pumpkin pie, but without all the other stuff, I think I will do just fine! We have eliminated starchy veggies in the house, so without all the root veggies for a feast, we are going to forego the feast. Just have a great day together! Hope you have a wonderful time!
You asked about motivation for walking, well, my dog is a big one. She will come over and lay her head on me until I get up to see what she wants. She goes over to her leash and sits and stares at it. I can get someone to go with me half of the time, but having the dog I feel ok walking at night. She is an angel, but very protective and I feel safe. We live in a quiet town and more often than anything you see people out walking alot, less with the snow, but there are still people out and about. I have a treadmill, but I will opt for the outdoors if I am able. I have enough 'unfirm' muscles, and walking is at least helping my legs stay ok.
Alright, enough about me! Sending you wishes for the Happies of Holidays!
Enjoy your family, especially with your daughter coming home! It makes the holidays more of what they are suppose to be! Family.
Best to you!
Wendy and family
Good job on handling all of those goodies! Hershey chocolate is a personal favourite, so I admire you all the more!! That's great that you and dh are onboard for not overdoing it at Thanksgiving. It helps to have a partner in crime! Enjoy your time off and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Hope everyone had a happy and healthy Thanksgiving! This will be a quickie post since I have to get my act together for work tomorrow. I can't believe that since Wed. evening, we went out to eat 3 times. Yikes! I must say that I have gotten much better with my restaurant choices. These were all spur of the moment meals, hubby and I went to see a movie on Wed, and then to the diner. Then, our daughter wanted to treat us to lunch on Friday, and after that our son and his friends invited us to dinner. We normally eat out on Thurs. nights, so that will be it for this coming week. I need to just say NO to restaurants. Right now I am craving a snack, but since there are none in the house, I will have to survive! I'll catch up on journals real soon. Have a great week everyone!

Hello Denise! Thanks for the positive words! Yes, I really enjoyed the 'new' Thanksgiving. We had a very nice day, and the stress level wasn't even there. We are going to keep this tradition going.
Yippee on another pound! I am just hanging around at the same mark. I need to get off the program and start a new one. Yes, more exercise would work. Walking is going to have to be TM with the snow outside now!
Here's a bit of luck to help with your exercising, and me too!
Have a great week!

We just finalized plans to spend the weekend with our daughter and sil in NY. Let the holiday whirlwind begin! We'll leave on Friday after work and come back on Sun. afternoon. Now how do I tell her to take it easy on the snacks and meal planning? I am really bad about refusing all the yummy food that I'm sure she'll be offering us. She does live in an area (Hudson Valley) where there are beautiful places to walk, so I'm looking forward to being outdoors in the fresh air. I just hope the weather cooperates!
I lost another pound, but probably found it yesterday. I had a bad eating day, in fact I'm paying for it now. I'm dealing with heartburn and indigestion which I haven't had in quite some time. Yuck! That's what I get for making poor food choices. I'm going to have a cup of tea and hope that things calm down.
I'm thinking about surprising my hubby with tickets to the Boston Pops on Dec. 17. They're doing a road tour, and will be performing in Trenton. I just hope at this late date that some good seats will still be available. I'll have to check it out tomorrow. We always try to attend a Christmas concert or show, and we've enjoyed the BP for years, so this would be a nice treat for us.
Hope all is going well for everyone. I know that with the hustle and bustle of the season that its easy to get stressed out, so sometimes its nice just to pamper ourselves a bit. I'll have to think of a little something special, and when I do, I'll pass it along to you Wishers!
Wow, sounds like you've been busy, but busy with a lot of fun stuff too. Have a great time this weekend with your dd and sil. Do they know about your healthy lifestyle? Maybe if they know in advance, they could have some healthy snacks to nibble on, or maybe you could bring some from home? That's great that you can do some walking while you're there. Walking can really help compensate for that extra cookie we eat! ;)
The Boston Pops sounds great! I've never seen them in person, but have enjoyed them tremendously on TV. You're absolutely right that we need to be kind to ourselves during this very busy season. I need to follow your advice. Have a great week!!! :sunny:

Time to check in and be accountable. Today is our department lunch and gift exchange at work. I ordered a salad because I know that I'll also partake of some of the goodies that everyone will share. All things considered, I'm actually doing pretty well for the eating season. I've lost another pound which makes 30 total, but I won't change my clippie until I remain at that weight for at least a week.
Yesterday I baked cookies (mostly to give away) and only ate 2. We also had friends over for dinner which was fun! We haven't seen them since the summer, and my girlfriend has lost 19 pounds at Weight Watchers. She's very petite, so the weight loss is really noticeable on her. She's just completed her master's degree at 53 and is going to Mexico for a vacation to celebrate. I'm thrilled for her!
I haven't done much "formal" excersize recently, but have been running around alot, as everyone is I'm sure. I do need to do my stretching and toning for my legs and knees. Our trip to WDW is a month away! I can't believe that the date is approaching so quickly. Once the New Year is here, I'll really be in vacation mode.
Time to move and start to get ready for the day. Work has been busy, but at least the time flies by. Hope everyone is having fun preparing for the holidays, but make sure you create a little peace for yourself during the hectic days.Stop by and say hello...I'd love to hear from you guys!

Here I go again...about to complain about all the junk food at work. All of our vendors are sending in food baskets, candy, cookies etc., and my lack of willpower is at an all-time low. I'm trying to tell myself that every pound I lose will give me that much more stamina at WDW. I just cannot afford to gain back any weight with the arthritis in my knees. We plan to take this trip at a leisurely pace, but I keep thinking about that long walk around the World Showcase. I just love Epcot, and plan to spend at least 1 day there. I guess I've just anwswered my own dilemma...just lay off the snacks, keep walking as prep for the trip, and just be smart about being healthy. Thanks for listening!!!!

Today I was much more in control. I still had some snacks, but wrote down everthing that I ate (it looks much worse on paper). I journaled my food on Calorie King, and I'm pleased to say that I didn't go over my calorie limit. My choices weren't the best nutrition-wise, but at least I reigned in the calories. I suppose that's the key for me...journaling my food choices. Tomorrow I plan to make some healthier choices, get out and walk a bit and hit the mall after work.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I have an extra day off from work to relax. Needless to say, I've consumed way too much, but find it easier these days to get back on track and do what needs to be done. There were times in my ancient history when I would blow my "diet" for a day and I would say just forget it until my next "diet". Now that I'm older (LOL) and wiser (yeah right), I am a little bit smarter about my attempt to be healthier. We hosted the family dinner this year, so we packed up the leftovers and sent them home with our guests.
I got a great little gift for Christmas from my hubby. Its the Hidden Mickey book. It will make fun airplane reading material, and its small enough to fit in my Healthy Back Bag to carry into the parks. I just love it!
Time to run and get ready for a visit from my son and future DIL. (August 4, 2007) I've been lazy all morning and enjoyed every minute of it. Enjoy the holiday week and the celebraton of the New Year!

What a week! I won't even try to describe how I got thru this week with all the over-eating. I am so glad that the New Year is almost here and that I can wipe the slate clean and renew myself. I am big on new beginnings, but not resolutions. I always feel that I set myself up for failure when I make them. We have another family get together tomorrow, so my plan is to focus on the people and not the food. We haven't seen a few of the people who will be there since last Christmas.
Just in case I don't post again, I'll wish everone a Happy New Year!!!!
Sounds like you've had a busy but fun holiday season! :) I completely hear you on all those treats around that are just calling our names. I'm still dreaming about this candycane chocolate cheesecake that I had the other day. :cloud9: But as you said, the new year is upon us and it's a great time to resume our healthy lifestyles. Happy New Year to all, and thanks for stopping by CJK. I'm back on track today! I stayed within my calorie range and took a short walk. I wasn't going to weigh myself, but I did anyway and was surprised to see that I had only gained 1 pound. I am a happy camper! I have less than 3 weeks till my trip to WDW. I'd like to lose another few pounds, and also hope to see my energy level and stamina increase. Since it now January, I am allowing myself to start packing, which makes the upcoming trip a reality. The countdown has begun!!!!!!!!!!!
Off to do a few things around the house before the HGTV Dream House comes on at 9:00. Yes, I am a dreamer, but watching the show has become a NY Day ritual with us. If I win the house, I'll invite the WISH journalists for a vaca. Keep your fingers crossed!

I too watched the Dream House. Pretty cool. Count me in on the invite when you win! :goodvibes
Glad the holidays were good to you. We had a pretty good one. Our next big thing is DS and DH are going to Mich Tech for an offical tour and such. I believe they are going on DH's next break, the end of March. So we should have taxes done and financial aide filled out by then. He is excited, yet as I know I have lamented before, I wish he would stay local for a year. Oh well, guess I won't win this round.
When are you off on vacation? I am going to miss taking a year off. But college is more important right now.

I had a pretty good week! Did OK with the food until we went to dinner at the Olive Garden. Since we were using a gift card, I splurged and added dessert to my meal (chocolate cheesecake..yum!), then spent the rest of the evening in a food-induced stupor. I really felt crappy after eating all that food. I've gotten used to those smaller meals and snacks spaced throughout the day, so that heavy meal did not sit well with me.
For exercise, I've been walking a little more, and have begun to use the Comcast on Demand videos. I tried a beginner's yoga workout, but can't tolerate the poses done while kneeling. I had to modify that one. I'm also doing a Leslie Sansone walking video. I'm trying to add variety to my routines, because I tend to get bored real easily.
Wendy, its nice to see you back on the journals again! The holidays were such a busy but fun time. To answer your question about vaca, we flying down on January 20, driving to Tampa to visit Busch Gardens on Sat. and Sun., and then to Orlando for WDW and Seaworld. I can't wait! My last trip to WDW with my hubby was in Sept. '05. We saved 3 days from our passes to make them non-expiring, and may add a 4th. We're flying back on the 27th. We've rented points at a BCV studio, so I'm real excited about staying there for the first time! I know what you mean about college being more important right now. We went to WDW in '97, and then not again to 2001 with the kids. They were on semester break, and we were able to get a super rate at AKL because our original resort choice was closed for renovations. Somehow, I think this was our best trip because they were older and knew how to have fun on their own. It was great!
Take care and post often! Have a great weekend!

HI Denise!
I agree that the trips are better as they are older. Although there are some very special memories from them as little ones, but some of our best trips are the most recent ones. Our last one was Dec 05. We went for an entire week, and even convinced my parents to come over for 2 nights. We had a great time and are very eager for Dec 08 when we plan (hopefully) to go again.
Have a great time and hug a princess for us!

Just want to share an exciting moment that I had yesterday. I was trying on some clothes for our upcoming trip (capris and shorts) and all were either too big to wear or fit so much more comfortably than when I last wore them back in September. I was quite surprised, I know that I had lost weight, but to see a real confirmation of the loss was just the boost I need to keep going.

Isn't that such a great feeling!? Just yesterday I had a pair of capris on that had been too tight to wear when I first started dieting. Then yesterday I had to go to the bathroom-pants down without unzipping. Isn't that wonderful? Or is that TMI? Anyways, I love when you can feel the difference in clothes.

We returned last Sat. night from our wonderful trip to WDW. We utilized the dining plan and enjoyed every minute of it. My strategy for this trip was to eat what I wanted, but to stop when I started to get that full uncomfortable feeling. This worked very well for me as I returned at the same weight as when I started the trip. We were gone for eight days and had a blast! We had a couple of down days, one which we spent at Stormalong Bay, and another which included a trip to the Poly for Dole Whip. We met up with my bother and his wife who live in Ft. Myers. It was great to see them, and also motivational because my SIL has lost 50+ pounds and my bro has lost weight too.
My knees held up fairly well with all of that walking. My leg muscles were just achy and fatigued. I did wear my brace for the last couple of days, just as a precaution. Silly me, I wore it to the airport, forgetting that it has metal strips inside the elastic for support, so I set off the metal detector. I had to get the full security check...chemical test, pat down, wand, etc. My hubby said I freaked some little girls who were sitting beside him putting their shoes back on. They wanted to know what that lady did wrong. Gotta laugh at my own stupidity.
Gotta run now. We're going to a family BD party. I'll post more later.

Just another manic Monday, and its off to work I go. I decided to sign up for the March of Dimes Walkamerica in April. I did the walk in the late eighties for several years, and if I remember correctly, it was about 15 miles back then. My local walk is now 5 miles. So now, I must walk more regularly and stretch, stretch, stretch. I have a bad habit of not doing that, and I always pay for it later.
I've been very good about writing my food choices in my little notebook, but have trouble transferring it to Calorie King when I get home from work. So, that is another goal for me this week. I made it to Curves twice last week, so this week I'll make it 3 times. I may have to take my walks in the mall. Its very cold here in NJ this week.
Hope everyone has a super week and meets their goals! I am certainly going to try to!

I'm feeling a little stressed today. Sometimes I expect way too much of myself, and when I fall short of my expectations ,I get in a funk. So, I need to perk up,and end my little pity party.
My hubby and I are thinking about joining a gym together. I've been a Curves member for a couple of years, and its getting real boring. We have a place about a mile from our home that offers all kinds of classes, equipment, cardio, pool and spa. We would also qualify for a reimbursement from our health plan. So what do we have to lose? Maybe we'll check it out this weekend.
I stayed within my calorie range today, although I didn't make the most nutritious choices. I'm always bad about snacking at work.
Tomorrow, I'll walk at lunchtime since I'm going to a scrapbooking class after work. Its a Disney layout class...hopefully good for beginners.

I decided that I need to be back here on the Wish journals... writing always helps with my motivation. I'm holding steady with my weight loss, always in a range of 2 lbs. on the scale. It depends on the time of day, fluid intake, etc. I've got some important events coming up that I need to prepare for.
1. Walkamerica on April 29
2. 33rd anniversary on May 11
3. My son's wedding on Aug.4
With that said, I would like to lose 5 lbs. in the next 30 days, and walk at least 4 days a week, with a l.t. goal of 1,000 steps a day. So, by March 19, I'll be a little lighter, and have more stamina. I think my goals ar do-able, so WISH me luck!

I purchased the book, "You: ON a Diet" on Monday night. I just started to read it. It has lots of common sense info and medical info also in terms that are not like reading a textbook. I'm not sure if this program will work for me, but since I love to read, I'll let you know what I think. It might be listed on ebay next week.(LOL)
I've been lax about scheduling some medical follow-ups and routine appts., so its time to get to work on that. Unfortunately, our eye dr. doesn't accept our new medical plan, so I have to find a new dr. That's always fun...just when you find an office that you like, you have to make a switch.
I've really been missing WDW since we returned from our vaca. We had such a great time but came back to ugly winter and grayness. Sometimes I think I have that SAD syndrome. I'm wishing for springtime and flowers!

Hey Wendy, its great to have you back!
Heather, thanks for reading my journal! I really appreciate it when someone takes the time to offer me some support! As for all our trips to WDW, some are short, and some are longer like the last one in Jan. We always manage do make it a budget vaca of sorts. It helps since we have family in Florida. I'm going to try to take a trip annually, but we really need to get out there and visit other spots in our big, beautiful country!
I went to Curves on Friday and really overdid it on the bouncy boards. My legs are aching just below the knees. I suppose I have shin splints. I went to Penney's at the mall today, and was planning on walking once around, but they just hurt too much to do it. I found some great clearance curtains for our bedroom and then went straight home.
Well, enough of the complaining. I got weighed and measured on Friday, and that was excellent news. Since my last check-in, I lost 12.75 inches, 9.25 pounds, and 7 pounds of body fat. Can't complain about that!
I signed up for Walk America in April and got my first few donations from my family. I'm off to a good start!
Its starting to snow rather heavily here. We're only expecting a couple of inches, but it may mix with ice and be a real mess. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow's commute. I feel the need for Spring! I have a big Oven Stuffer in the oven. Nothing like cooking a nice meal on a snowy day.
Hope everyone has a great week! Stop by again!

I have just been reading your journal and can really empathise with your wanting to get healthy so you don't ever have to do Disney in a wheelchair again. Thats actually what got me going to the gym. I had osteoarthritis in my ankle and had surgery last March--an ankle fusion. And its been great. Then I planned a trip to Disney for May and realized I had better get moving or I'm going to be doing Disney by wheelchair. So last October I joined a gym and have been going faithfully. I know now there will not be a wheelchair for me. I'm so much stronger now and can walk for miles.
Losing that weight is so good for your knees too. Good for you. Whatever it takes to get healthy, so long as we get there. For me that impending trip to Disney was my kickstart.

Carole, thanks for your words of inspiration! We're all in this together! I've been following your journal also, and find it encouraging to read how you went thru surgery and then eventually started a regular fitness program which you seem very dedicated to. I'm the type who is all "gung ho"' for awhile and then becomes a slacker. I know in my head that its neccessary to work out on a regular basis, but my body wants to rebel. I've been doing a little better recently. I went to Curves today, even though it was a rush to get there before closing. I always feel better when I take the time to just do it.
We have a family wedding tomorrow. It will be fun to get dressed up and party the night away. Then there's the food...help!!!
Tomorrow is also the start of the Philadelphia Flower Show. DH and I plan to take a half day next Friday and go. Its such a great show, and just what we need during our dismal March. This year there is an Irish theme. As the old saying goes, take time to smell the flowers or roses or something like that. That's just what I plan to do!
Well guess I should get some stuff done around the house since I'll be busy most of the day tomorrow. Have a wonderful weekend!!!!!

Other than feeling better and stronger since I started the gym I'm just now starting to 'see' the difference exercise makes. That took about 4 months. I'm not so saggy. And my jeans look better. Now thats a really nice feeling. Kind of makes me stand up straighter kind of feeling.
I'm a gung ho person too and worried that I would burn out quickly. Getting a personal trainer I think really helped. Its not really expensive. About 40.00 a month I pay. It keeps me accountable for one and she makes programs that ensure I don't overdo it and are safe for me. Also my daughter joined the gym about a month after I started. Thats been a big help. Anything that will keep me going is great. I've heard good things about Curves BTW.

Today is day 1 of my WISH journal challenge. I really have noticed a difference in my attitude and food choices when I journal my feelings and foods. The key is to do it daily!!! Wed. is bagel day at work. My dept. manager buys us big a** bagels from a local shop. The "everything" is to die for, and of course it probably has more carbs than I should consume in the entire day, but I have this indulgence once a week. I really look forward to it.
My son bought me a new MP3 player to use when I walk. Since I'm techno challenged, I have to play with it and learn how to use it. I'm looking forward to the time change this weekend, so DH and I can walk more at night.
Have to run, I'm on my lunch hour. I'll post again later.

Julie, if it wasn't for my son ripping the 3 albums for me, I wouldn't have any music either. By the way, what is ripping? I'm 53 and notice... I still call them albums. He'll be over this weekend, so I'll make him add some more music. LOL!
I'm thinking ahead about my food for tomorrow. We had a salad for dinner, so I packed some for lunch. We have a get-together after work at a place with fried appetizers, burgers, drinks etc. I really don't like going to these functions, but I ditched the last one along with the holiday party, so I better show up this time. Its our semi-annual sales meeting and everybody from both inside and outside will be there. I figure I'll stay one hour, have one drink, and one appe.,then I'm out of there.
I also need to think ahead for the weekend. The kids will be here for my DH's BD.My DD and SIL will be staying over since they live north of NYC, and DS and future DIL will be here on Sunday. Well, the after work function was just as I expected. Mostly fried foods, and I must admit, I had more than my share, but boy was it good. I'm certainly glad that I don't eat like this every day. I had one Bahama Bay Breeze, and then switched to Diet Coke.
I have a half-day at work tomorrow because DH and I are going to the Philadelphia Flower Show. I am really looking forward to it. Its always so beautiful and the fragrance is wonderful. It really puts you in the mood for Spring. I'll be doing lots of walking since we'll be taking the train and then we have to walk about 4 blocks and then also all the walking at the actual show. I should take my Advil in case my knees start getting achy.
I'm looking forward to the weekend even though it will be busy. It will be nice to have the kids here together again.
I'm planning to get my training strategy for Walkamerica written out over the weekend. It helps to have a visable plan to focus on. I have 7 more weeks to prepare. I hung a donation form at my desk at work, and have received many contributions from my co-workers. Actually, more than I expected, which is wonderful!

I had a good chuckle with the "album" thing. You are right. I have just recently learned that ripping is copying. And burning is recording. When did the definitions change?
So glad you are enjoying the link to the radio station. It does fill that need when the music sooths the beast in you.

We had a really nice time today at the flower show and must have walked at least a couple of miles. Its amazing how the convention center is transformed into a garden wonderland! The show is a welcome breath of springtime, and helps me get thru these last few weeks of winter.
I'm not sure if all the walking will make up for the fact that I had 2 donuts this morning. Yikes!!! Our outside sales reps alwas bring goodies when they visit the office.
Talked to DD a little while ago. They're taking Amtrack into Trenton and should arrive around 10 a.m. which is great because they will be able to spend the entire day with us. I think they are staying till late afternoon on Sun. We're having dinner with friends on Sat. night at The Cheesecake Factory. I suppose I should check out the on-line menu beforehand to see if there are any healthy options. Yeah right! Cheesecake is dairy ,and I do need my calcium.

How were your knees feeling after the garden show?
I plan on attending our local garden show soon. I'm hosting my DS wedding reception in my backyard and want ideas on what annuals would look best for June. Though my backyard is shaeded so impatience will likely be the mainstay.

Carole, thanks so much for asking about my knees after all the walking. Thankfully, they did not give me any pain. My legs were just achy and fatigued overall, but it wasn't bad...more like a good hurt if that makes any sense. It just felt like I did a strenuous workout.
I have a son getting married this summer also...on Aug 4th. I think its great that you are having the wedding reception at home, and I'm sure your garden will look beautiful! There was one display at the show which was a garden party-very lavish, done in all pinks, very beautiful. Another was a rustic farm reception, a really neat mix of the outdoors with beautiful Irish crystal and tablewear. I wish I could be so creative.
I have my training plan ready for this week, and I really need to stick to it.
5 days walking-20 to 30 minutes
3-4 days at Curves
Physical therapy stretches everyday
For the food part, just make smart choices and journal every single bite. It really does help keep me honest.
Have a good week everyone, and keep up the good work!

I am thinking lilac colours and white with some pink for flowers in the backyard. I'm not so much a fan of purples but the bride to be is. My big fear is rain. Its not a big wedding thank goodness. How about yours?
Good to hear your knees didn't give you any grief. Flare ups are strange aren't they. I never used to be sure when my arthritis was going to give me trouble.

Walked for 25 minutes at lunch

Tomorrow I'll walk at lunch and then go to Curves after work.

Day 6-Journaling Challenge
I did really great with my exercise today!
*25 minute walk at lunch
*Curves workout after work
*6,500 total steps (I'm getting there)
Now if I could get my eating and exercise in sync, I'd be doing really well. I must make more healthy food choices, I must make more healthy food choices, I must make more healthy food choices. Maybe that mantra will work for me.

Day 7
Today was an off day for me. I called out of work, and just hung around the house all day. I did finish the book that I was reading..."In An Instant" by Lee and Bob Woodruff-an excellent read and very inspirational.
I have to double up on my workouts tomorrow. Plan to do a Comcast On Demand workout in the morning before work and walk on my break. Tomorrow is DH's birthday, so I won't be exercising tomorrow evening as we're going out to dinner. Friday I'll walk and hit Curves on my way home. Sounds like a plan to me.
I have to do some grocery shopping and stock up on my grab and go stuff for work. I do so much better when I plan ahead.
DH and I have been checking out the Carnival website for a cruise in May, 2008. It will be our 34th anniversary. It's hard to believe that so many years have just flown by.

Food choices (not too good)
I did drink lots of fluids today, including a 33 oz bottle of water
We celebrated DH's B-day again since today is the actual day. Went to dinner and then shared some of his choco/peanut butter fudge. I'm looking forward to being at home this weekend where I can be in charge and do some healthy planning and cooking.

The weather is icy and snowy here. Its hard to believe that the temp was in the 70's earlier in the week. I did my walking outdoors, now I'm going to have to hit the malls again.
I plan to do the federal taxes tomorrow, and if I'm not too depressed I'll attempt the state too. I also will be making Easter Basket bows for a friend who is active with the the Sunshine Foundation, and distributes the baskets to kids. I'm also making some awareness ribbons for the March of Dimes Walkamerica. I'm making them into magnets and giving them to my freinds and family who support me.

We had a lazy day at home today with the exception of running to Home Depot early on. I did complete the Federal Taxes yesterday...we didn't owe and got a tiny refund. All is good with the world!
Goals for this week
*Walk at least 30 minutes 5 times
*Curves 2-3 times
*Journal food choices
*Cut back on soda and caffeinated drinks (I'm having sleep issues)
I looked back on my journal entries since June and I realize that I'm better at writing about my goals rather than trying to acheive them. So, with that said, I need to find a way to rejunvinate my efforts. I know its easier said than done and in my case it has to be done!

Lol. You are honest anyway about not goal meeting.
I had a discussion with a doctor about sleep one time. His response was that many people do not really give themselves permission to sleep. That as they are starting to enter that sleepy state just before sleep that they in some way resist it instead of allowing it. And most people don't realize they are doing that. So I tried it and found it helped me, not always but often.

Day 12-Spring has Sprung!!!!
I love new beginnings, and the spirit of renewal! I had an appt. with the oral surgeon today-a consult in preparation to have my wisdom teeth removed. I couldn't get a Friday appt. until the end of April, so I'm thinking about trying another day so I can move it up. Its not that I'm looking forward to having it done, I just want it over with.
Carole, thanks for the tip about sleep prep. A big part of the problem is DH and his snoring along with menopausal symptoms. I'm sure the caffeine is a culprit also. I'm willing to try anything.
My food choices were so-so today. I got home early because of the appt., so I was able to make a nice dinner. DH has been wanting stuffed peppers, so I made them tonight. They turned out really tasty! It was a nice treat for him, cause he's usually the one who starts dinner.
Tomorrow I plan to walk at lunch, since I have a hair appt. after work. The weather is supposed to warm up as the week continues. I am so ready for Spring.

Yesterday was blah...it must be Wednesdays, a hump day thing. Work is really busy because I have 2 of the sales reps in my group on the road this week. I'm taking all of their calls and writing their orders.
Today's plan is to walk at lunchtime, journal every morsel of food and stay in my calorie range. I'm also mixing up my stretches so I hit different areas. I bought a box of cards called "The Stretch Deck" which has about 50 different stretches with diagrams. I'm adding them to my Curves stretches when I go there so my routine isn't the same. I do get bored rather easily.
I just started the audio book-"Four Blind Mice" by James Patterson. Its got me hooked already. I have a 35-40 minute commute, so it helps the time go by more quickly.

"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." Confucius
Call us crazy, but Spirit Airlines offered $9.00 fares to Orlando on Friday, so DH and I decided to book it-$74.00 total RT- fees and taxes included, for 2 flights. We're going June 1-9. Of course we won't be in Orlando the entire time, we're heading straight to my brother's in Ft. Myers, and doing some touristy things, then we head to the St. Augustine area to DH's brother's place, then back to Orlando. We're not going to the parks, just BB and TL. We booked Buena Vista Suites for 2 nights ($88.00), so we'll get a full breakfast and have a fridge and microwave in the room. We'll do DT Disney, and maybe hit City Walk. I'd like to go to Margaritaville.
So, with all that said, I have to continue on my fitness quest. I've been very lax when using Calorie King, so that's my number 1 priority. I keep reminding myself about how well my son did by keeping track of his food intake and adding exercise to his life.
It looks like its going to be a beautiful day today. I'll be heading outside to walk, maybe somewhere different since I have plenty of time to explore.
Enjoy your day! Denise

Day 19-"To begin to think with purpose is to enter the ranks of those strong ones wo only recognize failure as one of the pathways to attainment."
Today was beautiful here in NJ...it was in the upper 70's with sunshine. I didn't walk because I'm having some gyn problems again. I made an appt. for April 11, which is actually a follow-up for the problems I was having back in the fall. This whole menopause thing sucks. I've also heard it called mental-pause which is how I act when all this is going on. I get myself really worked up, so I'll probably lose some weight which is the only good thing about it.
DH and I sat out on the patio after dinner, and even lit a fire in our outdoor fireplace. We're burning the old paperwork that I've been cleaning out of the files while I worked on our taxes. It was so nice and relaxing to just sit out there with a magazine and chit-chat with DH.
I got an e-mail from National today for a $40.00 off per week code. I tried it with our ressie and it got our 9 day rental down to $215.00. I'm aiming for under $200.00, then I'll really be happy.
Carole, I think that Spirit sale was extremely limited. My hubby just happened to look at the e-mail and jumped on the fare. We're very fortunate to have jobs where we can get time off fairly easily. I have 4 weeks vaca, and he has even more than that, although his accumulates monthly.
Hopefully, I'll be feeling a little better both mentally and physically tomorrow. I'll take a walk at lunch. I'm lucky to have 3 parks with walking trails near work, plus my office park is situated on a lake with a path. During the cold weather, I can take it indoors to the mall which is about 2 miles away.
Enough rambling for tonight. I must be going thru mental-pause. LOL! Have a great tomorrow!

We just walked and talked at a relaxed pace and ended up walking farther than we ever have. It was nice. Our weather is turning cold again tomorrow. Well here it is Monday and I can't believe that I didn't take time to check in over the weekend. We had a whirlwind day on Saturday and Sun. morning with DD, then after we took her to the train station, we came home and tried to get some house stuff done.
We decided to add a night or 2 at Vero Beach to our Florida road trip. Hopefully we can find availability and someone who will rent us points. It would be nice to add some beach time to the vaca.
It looks like we'll have nice weather for the next couple of days-beautiful outdoor walking weather! I'm going to take advantage of it while I can.
I'm thinking about stopping at the mall after work to look for some new work clothes. I really need to get some new pants, but I'm so hard to fit. I'm thick around the middle but my legs have gotten more toned lately, and I'm short. Its not a good combo when clothes shopping. I can wear 16 and the occasional 14 now, as long as the waist is comfy. In the past, when I find a style that fits, I buy it in several colors, so I'm hoping that I can do that again.
Off to check-in on some journals. If I don't get to them all, I'll be back again this evening to finish. Have a not so manic Monday!

Monday was a good day for food and exercise! I stayed in my calorie range and took a walk at lunch time. (3 miles total according to pedometer) By the time I got to the mall last evening , I wasn't in the shopping mood, so all I bought was a pair of sandals. They're real cushy and comfy, and should be good for Florida.
I was able to find someone to rent me DVC points for a night at Vero Beach. Now hopefully there's availability. Also got an e-mail from Mousesavers yesterday for a super rate at the Radisson Resort -Celebration. I booked it for 2 nights for under $160.00 total. The resort looks really nice on the website, and the Mousesavers review was excellent. So good-bye Buena Vista Suites. Its fun to stay at a different hotel-kind of like a new adventure.

I walked again at lunch today. The park where I go is about a mile from work, and it's really very pleasant to walk there. April 5-Day 29 "Well done is better than well said" Benjamin Franklin
I've noticed a pattern with my work-outs...Strong and energetic at the beginning of the week and then it fizzles out as the days progress. Kind of like the work week. So, with that said, I need address that issue and follow thru to the end of the week.
Today the food was out of control! I bought a muffin and coffee at Dunkin Donuts this morning, then a co-worker brought in a basket of home-made Easter candy for us to share. After lunch, another co-worker brought a bag of soft pretzels. Then, it was our night out for DH and I at a local Italian place with yummy bread, dipping oil, salad and entree. At least I didn't order pasta. Yikes! Tomorrow has to be more healthy.
Vacation update...couldn't get a room at Vero Beach, so we're going to spend 2 resort days at Saratoga Springs. Rented points which equal $108.00 per night, which is great for DVC. Also added the dining plan, so I'll have to give some thought to restaurant choices.
DH is off tomorrow, so I need to discuss a grocery list with him. He's going to pick up the rest of our food, etc. for Easter dinner. What a guy!

I hope everyone celebrated a nice Easter with their families. We were a group of 8, and I cooked way too much as usual. I did send quite a bit home with everyone, and the rest of the desserts will go to work tomorrow to share with my co-workers.
I've decided to bite the bullet and post my weight and weekly losses. I think this will help to keep me honest. My highest ever was 213, and currently I weigh 187. I am up about 5 lbs., which may be due to the gyn problems, or may be due to overeating. LOL...the second scenario is probably the reason. I've been feeling really sluggish lately. I have a gyn appt. on Wed., and will probably have to go thru another round of lab work, ultrasounds, etc. I think I have myself worked up about all that, and I'm feeling physical symptoms because of it.
Its still chilly here in NJ. I wish spring would return. Its so nice to get outdoors and move, but when its windy and cold I just talk myself out of doing it.
I'm off to catch up on some journals, and get ready for the work week. Make it a good one!

I just booked an ultrasound for my gyn problem. Maybe we'll be drinking our 8 glasses of water and wishing for a bathroom the same day. Mines on the 23rd. Ain't life fun sometimes!
On a more fun note I'm walking my first race on Sunday. 5K. Wish me a "no rain or SNOW" day.

Hi Everyone, The dr. visit was rather inconclusive. I have to have the ultrasonds (internal and external) next Thurs. (19th). After that I go back for a follow-up where we'll discuss those results and my blood work. I have a feeling he'll also want to do another biopsy. I have fibroids and also was diagnosed with hyperplasia last fall. It's hard to believe that 6 months have gone by since I experienced all the problems. I'm just concerned that if I have to have a "procedure" that it will happen after vacation and before my son's wedding in August.
Carole, at least I'm used to drinking alot of water these days. Problem is, last time they didn't take me at my appt. time, and I had to sit and wait, feeling like I was going to spring a leak. I hope everything goes well with your problem, and with your 5k too. It must be very exciting for you!!!! The weather seems like its going crazy all over the country this weekend. I hope your race is over before the rain or snow. We're expecting a nor'easter that's coming up the Atlantic coast.
We're going out to dinner tonight for our future dil's BB. We're going to Bertucci's which is chain in our area. She was talking about getting a pair of Crocs, so I bought her a gift card and I'm going to decorate the box with little pics of Crocs that I printed off the website. It should be a good time!
I modified our vaca plans again. Now we're doing 2 nites at SSR and 1 night at the Radisson. I figured since we're not doing the parks, at least we'll be on property, and can experience the Disney magic. Made ADR's at Raglan Road and the Yacht Club Galley. I'm thinking maybe we'll catch Bob Jackson at Port Orleans, go to the Poly for Dole whip, and do some other non-park stuff. We're also trying to decide which water park, and are leaning toward TL. We'll spend our relaxing time at SSR and check out OKW since we're in the area. SSR seems like a great walking resort.
Wendy, thanks for asking about my appt. You are the one Disser who has been posting on my journal since the beginning. I really appreciate that!
Today is errand day since the heavens will be opening tomorrow. We're expecting several inches of rain from the storm. DH has the coffee brewing and it smells great. Have a super day!

Today has been kind of crazy. We're getting several inches of rain and our family room is leaking! We have one of those houses where our family room windows are at ground level. We haven't had any water for almost 3 years, so we thought the changes that we made to the landscaping had worked. DH is on towel duty.Thank goodness I work for a linen company and we're always getting freebies. I decided that I would have a stay at home and cook day before all of this started, so I had 3 different entrees going for dinners and to freeze. So, our relaxing Sunday has been rather un-relaxing. We finally decided that we have to have a pump installed...now to find a reputable plumber.
Today's food choices were high on carbs. I had way too much sun-dried tomato bread that DH cooked yesterday, but it sure was yummy. I did have lots of protein with all the meats that I cooked. it was a real carnivore's feast.
Got lots of little things accomplished this weekend, I guess you could say I've started Spring cleaning and decluttering too. I managed to get a few things listed on ebay with more to follow. It always feels good to get rid of stuff.
Have a great week everyone! Be happy and healthy! Denise

Thats just no good...getting water in the house. You must have got the rain we were supposed to get. Good thing you have lots of linens. Was it just in the basement?
We lucked out for the 5 K. It rained in the night instead of when it was supposed to (during the morning) so my race was done in sunshine. YEAH! Loved the race. 5K was perfect distance wise. I still had lots of energy at the end. I'm signed up now for a 10K in June and hope I feel as well at the end of that as I did with the 5K. I start training for that next week. We did not push our speed at all. Just enjoyed our walk really at a brisk pace. The good news is we left lots of room to beat the time next year. lol.
Hope you get dry weather now to stop the leak problem. What a pain for you.

"Pennies do not come from heaven. They have to be earned here on earth." Margaret Thatcher
Our water problem has subsided. We had to tear out about 3 ft. of padding around 3 sides of the room. We've extracted most of the water from the carpet with our Dirt Devil cleaner, but tomorrow night we're going to have to shampoo and deodorize.Maybe then we'll put the furniture back where it belongs. We have fans and a de-humidifier running, so the situation is improving- thankfully. I've been watching the news reports showing other homes in our area that have several feet of water, so all things considered, we're ok. Once we have the pump or drainage system installed, we'll buy some new carpeting. Well , enough about all that!
Did pretty good with the eating today, since we were so busy with the water.
Julie, I had to laugh about your comment about my DH and his baking. The man likes to eat, so he doesn't mind cooking, in fact he likes to.
Thanks for all the good thoughts about my upcoming tests and Dr. visits! I'll try to check in on your journals real soon! Denise

April 27-"Procrastinaton is oppurtunity's natural assassin."
Hello everyone!
I've been among the missing for the past week and a half , so I"ll try to catch up a little tonight.
I had my follow-up at my gyn to review my lab work and ultasounds. I'm still having some abnormalities, so I have to have another biopsy and a D an C on May 15th. I'll have it done at a local hospital as an outpatient. I need to schedule an EKG prior to that since I'm over 50. I'm nervous about all this, but since I've been seeing m DR. regularly, I'm optimistic that my results will be OK.
We also were shopping for a new car, which consumed some of our evenings. DH did a bunch of research on line, and some of the initial tire-kicking, but we ended up at Saturn again, which I knew we would. We bought a Saturn Vue, which DH will drive most of the time, and it will be great for our weekend jaunts.I really do like it, hopefully he'll let me drive it sometimes. LOL
Last weekend we took a whirlwind trip to NY and Boston. Our SIL works for Amtrack, so we rode the train up, and did a quickie tour of Boston on Sunday. We had a really nice trip, but needed more time to sight-see. I guess that means will have to go back again. I'd like to do a trolley tour of the city.
I had dental surgery today..3 wisdom teeth extracted. Yuk! I'm having some pain, but its not too bad-the meds help. I've been putting this off for years, but a few weeks back I chipped one, so it was time to bite the bullet
I hope everyone is doing well with their fitness quests! I suppose I'll lose a couple of pounds with my light diet. Guess that's enough for tonight. I feel like I'm rambling.Have a wonderful weekend!

I'm just a few steps behind you it seems. My ultrasound was not normal so I have to see a GYN and get a biopsy. However I don't have my referral yet. Like you I'm being optimistic. My philosophy is to hand it over and let the professionals do their investigations and proceedures. I'm in their hands. And emotionally I hand it over spiritually. So I figure I'm in good hands all around.
Take care

Thanks fo checking in on me girls! I'm feeling pretty good. The pain was easier to control than the swelling. I'm going to continue icing my face today, and hopefully by tomorrow I'll look normal enough to go to work. I do have some bruising at my jawbone. My DR. said the roots were wrapped around the bone. Since I'm off today, I can get some little projects done around here. Sounds like a plan!
My eating has been very unusual for the past few days. Way too much ice cream, but I had the perfect excuse to eat it! I'll start journaling my foods again today, and make some healthy choices. I'm also going to get out and walk, and get rid of some of the cob-webs in my head. Its been a lazy 3 days! My DH has been very patient with me while I was having my little on and off pity party.
Make it a great day!

Hi everyone, thanks for your kind words while I was healing from the dental work! I had my follow-up and everything is healing just fine, and I'm eating almost normally again.
I haven't posted in over a week, so I'll catch up with a few things. We spent last weekend in Ocean City, NJ. There was a wonderful block party with crafters food and entertainment. The street was closed off for almost 10 blocks. it was great fun on a beautiful day. It was nice to see the ocean again.
I had my EKG in prep. for my GYN procedure, and it was normal thankfully. I also lost 3 pounds from my last visit which is great! The biopsy etc, is this Tues the 15th and being done at the hospital as day surgery. I'll be happy when its over, and I'm anxious to find out what has been causing my problems. I'm hoping for a clean bill of health!
We have a modified itinerary for our Florida trip. We're heading to West Palm Beach for a few days and also Vero Beach. My sil will be staying there with her friends who are DVC members. Then we go up to St. Augustine and finally to Orlando. Yeah! Our home away from home! It will be so nice to relax at the pool at SSR. I'm really getting the travel bug again, and I'm anxious to have a nice relaxing time at WDW.
Well enough about me. I hope everyone is doing well and getting fit. Denise

I'm at home today taking some extra time after my procedure yesterday. I didn't speak with my Dr. afterwards because of the anesthesia, but he did speak briefly with my hubby. I know that I have to wait about 10 days for the results. I made my follow up appt., so now we play the waiting game. The hospital took very good care of me. The anesthesia was great, I was totally out of it and when I woke up, I got a fruit ice pop! I experienced some minor cramping, but that stopped pretty quickly! I just relaxed yesterday, slept quite a bit, read a couple of magazines and started a new book. I proclaimed today a D-Day, a day which I only do things that I want to do, which may include some pampering and some comfort foods. I do know that I'll be working on my vacation organization such as cancelling multiple car rentals, making my daily index cards, and just making sure everything is in order. I take an accordian check-size file with me to keep the daily stuff in order, so I'll be filling that also. I'm so excited that the trip is just a little over 2 weeks away.
I've been shopping for some spring and summer clothes over the last week or so. I am just so hard to fit on the bottom. My waist is large in proportion to my legs, so pants and shorts that fit on my waist, bag in the legs. I'm easier to fit on top thankfully! I have found a few things both for work and vaca. I need to lay things out and mix and match especially for the trip. I figure I can take 5 outfits for the 9 day trip because I'll be able to do laundry. I admit that I am an over-packer, but hubby and I take only 1 large suitcase each and 1 carry-on. Usually its a back pack or something that we can both carry.
Has anyone seen the Hallmark gift tag that says "WISH"? Its green (almost lime) and has a key-chain thingy on it. I'm going to add some lime-green ribbon to it and hang it from my bag when I'm in WDW.
I plan to visit some journals today since I have lots of time to play. Hope everyone is doing great!

I did some more clothes shopping today. I returned 2 things and purchased 3. My shopping rule is that I only go into the fitting room 1 time, the rest comes home with me to try on. Found a couple of light-weight short sleeve shirts in Target for the trip, and a skort in another store. I'm getting there! I would like to find a pair of denim shorts..they're like a wardrobe staple. I also tried on a couple of MOG dresses for the wedding. I know the style that I want, I just need to find it.
We also went to the Men's Warehouse with DS to choose the tux for the wedding. I can't believe that its approaching so quickly. I'm really hoping to find the dress before we leave for Florida, then I can worry about alterations when we return.
I'm getting back in to fitness mode after the surgery. I'm not allowed to lift more than 10 lbs. until a week has passed, but I plan to walk tomorrow morning. DH is working and going in around 3 am, so I'll have some time to myself. I think I'll just walk around the neighborhood. I'm looking forward to being outdoors!
Hope everyone is doing well! Hang in there!

This is just a quickie post before I get ready for work. Only 6 more days at work before my vaca. I just love counting down! I'm feeling pretty much back to normal after the dental and gyn experiences. I am up a few pounds due to all the comfort foods. So, I have to think healthy choices, and prepare ahead. I have a little more than a week before I leave, so I'd like to drop those extra pounds and hit the vacation at the weight where I was holding and pray that I return at the same size! Whew, finally got a chance to post on my journal. We were in Florida for 9 days, then I spent this past week getting back into the work mode and also had things to do to get ready for my dil's bridal shower which was yesterday. So much has happened that I'll just take one thing at a time.
Our trip to Florida was a blast! We spent Fri-Mon a.m. in Singer Island which is just north of Palm Beach. We stayed in a condo- 21st floor-oceanfront, and had a bird's eye view of Tropical Storm Barry. We ate at some great restaurants, and visited the Flager Museum in Palm Beach. We had a wonderful guide which made the tour of the home even more enjoyable. Flagler was one of the founders of Standard Oil along with Rockefeller. The mansion was his winter escape. Words cannot describe the opulence of his mansion! If you're ever in the area, this is a great tourist spot.
Needless to say, I really didn't watch my eating while on vaca. I got home weighing a few more pounds than when I left. I don't allow myself to get upset about weight gain anymore. Life is just too short to spend time worrying. I just need to begin jornaling my food again, and everything should fall back into place. I have less than 7 weeks till the wedding, so I must be in control!
I'll post more about the trip later. I missed the support and friendliness of the Dis community. One of my goals for the week is to check in on the Dis more, and also to keep that food journal.
I hope everyone has a super week!!!!!

Happy Fourth of July everyone! Hope you all had a chance to enjoy your hometown activities. We caught a parade this morning, and had a bbq with our son and dil. Then we went to see Ratatouille. I really enjoyed it! My dh and I discussed how WDW could make it into a new attraction. It could be near France in Epcot, and it would be part water ride taking place in the Paris sewers.
We getting ready to go to DH's company picnic in Hershey this weekend. It's the park's 100th birthday and they've added a new area called the Boardwalk. I wonder where that came from? All kidding aside, we really love Hershey and we've enjoyed it with our kids for years before we could afford WDW. As an added bonus this year, we'll also get to see the house that our daughter and sil are buying in Harrisburg. They are so excited!
The countdown clock is ticking for the wedding. I need to start making my lists for things to take care of in the house and for the wedding itself.
My Curves moved. Now its a couple of miles away instead of a couple of blocks. I'm really disappointed in the new location. They said the new facility would be larger, but its not. In fact, I think its smaller. They're probably saving money on rent cause its in a dumpy office building. This might be the catalyst I need to change clubs.
Have a great rest of the week.

My DD wants to see Ratatoulle so much, that she almost opted to go there rather than shopping with her friend. Maybe you should email the president of WDW and mention the new ride. Who knows, maybe there could be a commission in there for you! Or free trips for life. Now that would be a cool commission.
Too bad about Curves moving on you. Ours used be on the way to work, until they moved me! There is a unisex gym right around the corner, but it has changed owners already in just 2 years. They do offer a regular pilates group.

You can't tell from the pictures, but the day of the wedding was about 95 degrees, but I still think we looked pretty good.

Wow! What a busy time the last couple of months have been! I figure its time to get back to basics, and since this journal was started for support in my healthy lifestyle journey, I figure that's what I'll talk about first.
My weight has been pretty much the same for the past 6 months or so, up a few, down a few, but almost stagnant when it came to weight loss. So...I decided to check out our medical plan and what type of reimbursements I could get for fitness and weight loss programs. Well, it turns out I can get $200 for a weight loss program and $150 for fitness. So, I figure I'd be really stupid if I didn't take advantage of the benefits, and become healthier to boot.
I checked out a couple of gyms, but decided to stick to Curves for now because of the convenience, and ability to go to any location. I also joined Weight Watchers Monthly Pass program which includes all the interactive internet tools.I feel really good that I did both. I've committed myself to going to Curves 3 days a week, and have done fairly well with WW. I've lost 8 lbs. so far, and I'm feeling some small changes with the way my clothes fit. My supervisor also took me aside and told me she noticed that I've lost some weight which made me feel terrific. I'm not the type that "fishes" for compliments, so I know that her words were genuine.
I've done well journaling my foods with WW, and I have the mindset that I'm not expecting any miracles overnight. I'm making lifestyle changes and not dieting. When I was doing my Curves workout today, I even started a little jog on the bouncy boards. That's a biggie for me, because I never run. I was a chubby kid, and hated gym class.
Well, enough of this for now. Tomorrow, I'll add the next installment and also check out some other journals, which always helps with my motivation. Till then!

We've been making some vacation plans recently, so I thought I'd share them with my Dis friends. I get such a kick out of planning.
Last night my DH was on the Spirit Airlines website, and snagged a super rate for a weekend in Feb.to Tampa. The rate was -$2.00 (Spirit pays you to fly). With the taxes and security fees, the rate was about $35.00 for both of us. We figure we can either go to Busch Gardens or maybe just hit the beach and relax.
We're also going to WDW and taking a Wonder cruise in May. Again, we got good rates on Spirit ($35.00 each way), so we decided to celebrate our 34th anniversary with a cruise. We're also renting points from a DVC owner. We'll have 2 nights before the cruise at VWL, and 3 nights after at Old Key West. We'll be able to hit Epcot for the Flower and Garden Festival, which DH has never been to. We also have some old hoppers with a water park option, so we'll probably go to Blizzard Beach. We also might take advantage of the special for Universal.
If any of you have taken a 3-night cruise on the Wonder, I'd appreciate an helpful hints since we're first timers.
The State of NJ recently issued tax rebates to residents, so we're using our "found money" and applying it right to vacation. Now I just need to find some other ways to magically save.
Make it a great day!!!! Denise

I stayed within my points range yesterday, so I feel good about that! I had half a bagel and for lunch I chose chicken, a h.b. egg and pickles from the deli tray. The food at work is really a challenge! I have a weigh-in today, so I'll report later. I'm thinking about switching to the Core Program, and maybe I'll boost my loss a little plus I need to stop eating so many bread products.
Thursday is the night DH and I go to dinner, so I need to choose carefully!
Have a wonderful day everyone!!!

I've been terrible about journaling lately. I really have no excuse, except that I've been lazy and in a rut. I've been going to WW regularly and today I got my 10lb. star. I'm feeling really good about that! I had 2 routine Dr. visits this week-primary and gyn...I'm trying to be responsible for my health and wellness. I have another appt. in a couple of weeks with a dermatologist , a dental check-up and cleaning at the end of Oct., and still need to schedule vision and the dreaded over 50 colonoscopy. My mammo. is scheduled for Dec. Whew! I'm really glad we have health insurance!
Don't know what we'll be doing this weekend. We finally have a hint of fall in the air (which I love) Maybe we'll go out and get some mums and do some stuff around the house. I like to cook on the weekend so that I can freeze some dishes and also have meals for later in the week.
I'm off to do a little something domestic before I crash for the evening. Have a super-dooper Friday. The weekend is just about here!

I couldn't sleep this morning, so I decided to get up early and do a little Dissing. I had a follow up with my Dr. regarding my blood work, and it was one of those good news/bad news things. My cholesterol levels all improved and are excellent,but...my blood sugar is still high, and I was told if it doesn't improve in 3 months, I may have to go on medication.I kind of expected that, but when you hear it from the Dr., it's reality check time. She was happy with my 10 lb. weight loss, but would like me to lose 10 more before my next visit in Jan. So here's the plan. Curves 3 times a week and a vigorous walk on the other days. I will also walk more in general. I'm going to switch to the Core plan at WW, so I'm not eating all the bad carbs that I love.
I'm officially in countdown mode for our trip to the Outer Banks for Thanksgiving. Our vaca is 1 month from today. That means I can start my lists, pull out the totes and start getting things together. We've rented a 5 B.R. house on the sound with a hot tub, pool table, elevator, and many other great features. Its also in a community with a recreation center with indoor pool, exercise room, and other fun things. This is our first trip down there in November, so I'm hoping for nice weather.
We're thinking about taking a ride to Atlantic city today. There's a Rainforest Cafe in the Trump Casino which would be fun to go to. I'm missing WDW, so I can pretend I'm in DTD. LOL!
More later...and have a beautiful Sunday!

A beautiful day at the Jersey shore! We took a ride just to have lunch, do some people watching, and check out the new shops on the old Steel Pier. We walked on the boardwalk and had lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. Its not as large as DTD, but still has the same atmosphere. The best part was we had an early lunch and beat the crowds! I had lettuce wraps which were yummy, although a little spicy. Not sure of the calorie count, but I could have made worse choices...like the peanut butter pie, which I'm sure I would love!
My son told me about a website he discovered called The Daily Plate. I'm going to check it out. I believe it lists restaurant calorie counts, has a journaling section, and lots of good healthy info.
Be back later....

I had my dermatologist visit yesterday and all went well. I have some sun damage to my skin from all those years when I didn't realize the importance of sunscreen. But even so, I'm happy that my visit had a good outcome.
We're very busy at work this week, so sometimes that gets a bit stressful. We have 2 people missing from our dept., and also 2 of my sales reps are out , so that makes me a little crazy. I find that if I take a deep breath when I start to feel tense, it really does help me calm down. I just have to remember to make myself do it.
I've declared tonight a house straightening night. I must admit , I'm bad at putting things away at times. By the time I get home from work, have dinner and clean up, who wants to putter around with all the other stuff? Not me! I really do need to address the situation tonight, cause Thurs. is date night, and Fri. my DD might be staying over.
Time to get ready for the day. Have a good Wednesday!

Well, here it is 2008, and I have so much catching up to do. I'll try to journal over the next few days and get up-to-date.
After about 15 months of gyn. problems, I finally had a hysterectomy on Dec. 11th. The surgery went well, and I was released from the hospital the following day. (Thank goodness, because I got no rest while there!) I've pretty much been at home recuperating for the last 3 weeks with the exception of a trip to my daughter's in Pa. over the holidays. We took a ride to Hershey and drove thru their Christmas light display. It was so nice to get out and have a change of scenery and do something festive. I'm very thankful that I'm feeling so good...actually much better than I expected. I just spoke with my Dr.'s office and was told that I can now drive again! My family has been wonderful! They've brought me meals, cleaned my house, did my laundry, cooked me dinner, and have just taken care of me in general.
I do have some other health issues that I'll write about later, but for now, I'm doing well, and enjoying some time off from work.
I hope everyone had a great holiday season, and I wish you a happy and healthy New Year! Denise

Since I'm now able to drive, I took myself to the lab for blood work this morning. Then I had a list of other things that I wanted to accomplish. I went to Panera for a bagel and tea, then to the mall for a walk. (I'm not allowed to lift or strain, so no Curves for me for awhile.) After that I went to the bank with my first disability check, and then to the grocery store for a few items. I picked up some fresh asparagus to have with the pork roast that I'm making for dinner. I'm resuming WW today since I'm feeling good- hence no more comfort food. I'll go to my first meeting on Wed. My weight is about the same as the end of Nov. which is OK because everyone has been feeding me all kinds of yummy stuff over the last month.
DH suggested that we go to a movie later. I'm thinking maybe "Charlie Wilson's War" with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.
Off to do a little straightening. I really wish I could run the vacuum, but I'll leave that for hubby.
Have a great weekend!

Another new week. Yikes! I've been out of work for 4 weeks now, and I know that I'm recovering, but I haven't done much on my to-do list. My lists have silly little things like fill in the new address book, straighten up my jewelry box, etc. I suppose I should try to complete one item each day. I have to see 2 different doctors this week, and go to a WW meeting on Wed.
My DD and DS lent me a bunch of DVD's to help pass the time, so hubby and I have been watching the first season of Desperate Housewives. We've really gotten hooked. I also got a historical DVD about Disneyland for Christmas which I'll probably pop in today.
I need to pick up a new WW 3-month journal when I go on Wed. There's something about starting off the New Year with a blank slate...it helps with the mind-set.
The weather is supposed to be mild here in NJ today. I need to get outside and get some fresh air. That should perk me up.
Have a great week!

I spent a lovely afternoon enjoying the beautiful day. I took a ride to a neighboring town-Moorestown, and did a little browsing and shopping. This is the town that won the national award for best place to live a couple of years ago. It's so nice to shop in a town that has a main street with family owned shops, etc. I hit the bakery and bought some rolls for dinner and then went to the bookstore in search of bargains. After that, I went to a local park and found a nice bench to sit and read. Then I came home and read some more while sitting on the deck. This has been a rather indulgent day, but I figure I deserve it with everything that has happened in the past month. I have a follow-up with the gyn tomorrow, and with the oncologist on Thurs. (my lab results were positive for uterine cancer). I'm thinking positively, and taking one day at a time.

I had my follow-up appt. on Tues for my hysterectomy. I have an inflammation from the sutures, so my doc gave me meds for the problem. Other than that I am feeling well and improving every day.
Went to WW on Wed. I'm up 1.5, not bad for some one who ditched the program for 6 weeks due to surgery and the holidays. My new philosophy is health, not weight. If I think and eat healthy, the weight should come off.
On Thurs. I had the second appt. with the oncologist. I got wonderful news...my CT scan and blood test were negative so that means no additional surgery, just radiation. I have an appt. with my doc at the Virtua/Fox Chase Cancer Center on Mon. to set up my treatment schedule. Fox Chase is very highly rated in the Phila. area as a top notch cancer treatment center, so I feel I'm in good hands.
As of right now, I'm out of work until Feb. 5., which of course could be subject to change. We have plans to fly to Tampa for a weekend in Feb. Originally we were going to Busch Gardens, but with all that has happened, we plan to just chill and relax at our hotel. I found a great rate for the Bellevue Biltmore in Clearwater...$85.00/nite. It's one of those classic, sprawling hotels built in the late 1800's and on the National Registry of Historic places. I'm really looking forward to our get-away.
Well, enough for now. I have to chuckle at the title of my journal. When I started it a year and half ago, the "healing" was all about the arthritis in my knees. That all seems so minor now. I'm so thankful that I had the surgery and the cancer was discovered at an early stage! Girls...don't ever delay your gyn appts., and tell your doc about any minor problem, and be an advocate for you!!!!! No one else knows your body like you do!

Julie, thanks so much for the prayers and I'll be sure to return the favor!
Yesterday I got to talk with one of my co-workers who had just found out about my diagnosis. It was so nice to speak with someone from the office who had such positive and up-beat things to say to me. I'll probably stop in there this week to say hello. It's going to be difficult to speak with everyone for the first time. Sometimes I get rather emotional when I talk about it.
DH and I went to dinner at Carrabba's last night. We're still using our gift cards that we received for Christmas. Of course I ate way too much, but I figure if I eat out only 1x per week, it shouldn't be too bad. We both had a delicious meal and did bring home some leftovers to enjoy today.
DH and I hit Target and Kohl's today in search of winter bargains. I had no luck at Target as usual when it comes to clothes, but at Kohl's I found 4 items. One was a pair of really cute cropped capri-style pants that was marked way down from last summer I suppose. They're a petite so they fit really well. They'll be great for my trip in Feb.
Well, time to get to work. We're still un-decorating from Christmas. We're taking things slowly this year. We finished the upstairs, but now have to tackle the family room and store things away.
Have a laid-back Sunday and a great week!

I need to play catch up for the week...
Monday-My DH took me to my first visit to the Radiation Oncologist which was scheduled for 2:20. When we got there, we were told he had just left due to a stomach virus. Actually, I'm glad I didn't get to see him, because I certainly don't want the bug. I was re-scheduled for Friday afternoon.
Tuesday-Took a walk at the mall just to get in a little exercise. Of course I stopped at the Disney Store and found a couple of bargain T-shirts for the kids. Ran a couple of errands and came home and relaxed.
Wed.-Met a co-worker for lunch and then went to my office for the first time since my surgery (just for a visit). It was nice to talk with everyone. Then, I had to go to my gyn. to pick up paperwork for an insurance claim. I'm fighting a $700.00 charge from pathology which ins. said wasn't medically necessary.
Today I have an appt. with my primary to review my blood work. I also have a bunch of questions for her regarding all the reports that I picked up yesterday.
Hope you all have a great day! I'll be visiting some journals later today.

I had my follow-up with my primary yesterday and got good news re:my blood work. My sugar is in the upper ranges of normal, however my numbers for the A1C test are down from last time and back in the normal range for a non-diabetic. So...that means no meds for me. Yeah!
We went out for dinner last night at the Red Lobster. Yummy! No appetizers or dessert for us, and I brought home half of my shrimp for dinner tonight. Maybe I'll make a salad to go with it.
Went to WW this morning. No weigh-in today, I just needed to get back to attending meetings. We discussed getting variety in our meal plans, so I came away with ideas for new foods to try. Now all I have to do is get to the grocery store.
I have my first appt. this afternoon with the Radiation Oncologist. I'm nervous about it, but DH will be with me, so I'll be OK.

Time to catch up again...
Friday-1st Rad. Oncol. visit
My visit went very well. All of the medical personnel that I've dealt with have been very sweet and compassionate. I had a thorough physical and then spoke with the doctor about the treatment plan. It looks like I'll start rad. on Feb. 11 for 5 weeks (Mon.-Fri.) After that I have 3 additional internal treatments. This is one of the rare times in my life when I'm not supposed to lose weight. Who knew? I have another preliminary appt. on Monday to have more CT scans and to mark the area where I'll have my treatment.
Sat.-DH and I hung out with my 2 SIL's this afternoon. We were supposed to have a memorial gathering for my BIL who passed away in Nov., but its been postponed because all of the immediate family could not be there.
Sun.-Met my daughter and SIL at Bahama Breeze. We picked a spot that we could both get to fairly easily. Spent a couple of hours there enjoying a nice lunch. After that, we came home...I crashed, then later DS and DIL came over for a couple of hours. We hadn't seen them for a few weeks, so it was great to have them here.
Mon.-Had my 2nd appt. for the CT Scans. Had to drink that nasty Redi-Cat stuff to prep. Yuk! All went well. I was seen right on schedule. I've gotten very emotional both times that I've been there. This all seems so unreal to me. Its not that I'm in denial, its just that I didn't think that I'd have a cancer diagnosis after my hysterectomy. None of my prior lab tests gave any indication that it was there. When I was at the center on Friday, there was a small ceremony for a woman who had just received her last treatment. I lost it! She had 2 friends there with her, so there was a lot of crying going on.
I've never been to a cancer treatment center before, and I'm amazed at the upbeat spirit that everyone seems to have. I consider myself so lucky that I went in the hospital when I did. What if I would have waited? I don't even want to think about it.
So, enough of the sad stuff. I'm going to treat myself to some ice cream tonight. Chocolate/Peanut Butter from Wawa (for those of you from the Phila. area.) Yum!!!!!
Have a super week everyone!

Wow, Denise  What a lot to be going through all at once and all of a sudden! I am amazed at how upbeat you are staying and I think it is great! I have read over and over that keeping a positive outlook really helps in recovering from anything and especially cancer. Also eating healthy and exercising.
So, it looks like you are on the right path to recovery :cheer2:
It looks like you will have a nice relaxing vacation right before you start rad. I think that is a good idea. You can go relax, refresh and then come back and rid yourself of the cancer for good!
Take it one day at a time and take care of yourself.

Amber, thanks for the sweet words of encouragement! That's just what I need!
Today is the day that I told myself I would handle all of the medical, insurance and disability phone calls. Sounds like fun, right? I really need to psych myself to do this. I hate handling that kind of stuff. I'm also keeping a binder and journal with all the paperwork that goes along with this, so that also needs some organization.
Yesterday I played around in my extra bedroom, and made myself some space to do some crafts, photo albums etc. This was the room that used to be my DD's, but when she got married it became MINE! I've been using it as for the extra closet space, and her old dresser is in there so I have lots of space for my junk. I also have a vanity with a make-up mirror which I need 'cause I can't see close up anymore. So with the new space for being creative, it will help me pass the time while I am still out of work. I picked up a couple of needlework kits the other day, so now I'm anxious to get started on those.
I checked out some of the fitness programs on Comcast on Demand, and found couple of low intensity workouts that I'm going to try. I really need to do something during this time and keep up some kind of fitness routine. I have a stretching routine that I received from physical therapy a couple of years ago, so I'm going to use that as my starting point. Just because I have a medical problem, doesn't mean I can't be healthy. Does that make any sense?
Make it good day!

I hung out around the house this past week. All of my friends are at work during the day, so there's not much going on besides running errands, making dinner and just finding things to pass the time. I went to the bookstore again and picked up a Carol Higgins Clark mystery. I've been keeping my book choices on the light side cause I get easily distracted with everything that is on my mind. Started an embroidery project..its nice to do something creative. Tomorrow I'm having family over for dinner which should be fun. I do enjoy cooking when I have the time.
My food choices haven't been the greatest, but I weigh myself daily to make sure I stay at the same weight for my treatments.
Time for bed. I've been listening to my nature music and I also have a CD that I bought at AKL which is very soothing and helps me relax.

I have an appt. for my yearly mammogram tomorrow. I'll be up bright and early since my appt. is at 8:30 and I have at least a half hour drive during rush hour. After that, I'm not sure what I'm doing. I know I need to pay some bills and do some household stuff, so I guess I should make a list. Monday is a "taking care of business" day, so Tuesday will be a D-Day. That's what I call the days when I nurture myself.
I made a ADR for our day in Epcot in May. I managed to get 7:40 at the Rose and Crown, so...if we order appetizers and desserts and eat very slowly, we should still be there for Illuminations at 9. I'm trying to decide where to have dinner on the 11th, which will be our 34th anniversary. It will be a non-park day, as we return from the cruise that day.
We had a nice dinner today with my family. Made a yummy pork roast and a roasted chicken too. (My sister doesn't eat beef or pork.) I now have leftovers for at least 1 meal, maybe more which is a good thing!
Time to call it a night. Have a super week everyone!

I had my mammogram this morning-now I play the waiting game. I contacted the fitness center which is affiliated with the treatment center that I'll be going to. The gym has some special programs geared toward cancer patients, but the fee is outrageous. With my Dr.'s ok, I think I'll continue at Curves. I really wish it were spring and the weather was nicer so I could go outside and walk.
I canceled my WW Monthly Pass for now since my weight can't change during treatment. I still can use the program materials and keep a food journal which will be helpful in knowing how different foods affect me, and how much I actually eat to keep my weight at the same level. I'm weighing myself every day and it seems to fluctuate in a 2 pound range. I also made an appt. with a nutritionist, but that's not until March. My health plan covers 6 visits at no charge.
Tomorrow is my fun day so I have to decide what to do. I think I'll check out the class schedules for the local craft stores and see if they have any interesting projects. Sounds like a plan!

I finally got around to checking out a bead crafting store in my neighborhood yesterday. I've never done bead work before, but I've always enjoyed crafts, so I signed up for a class on Thursday. This particular class is a beginner level bracelet. I picked some colors that will go with an outfit that I plan to wear on the cruise, so I have until May to complete the project. It just might take me that long. LOL!
I also went to Curves yesterday. I just took my time and didn't over-do it. I'll gradually add a little more intensity each time I go. It felt good to be there and chit-chat with the other members. I'll continue to go as long as I feel up to it. I'm also going to wear my pedometer and try to get in a little more walking. I think I'll hit the mall today which is a mile if I walk into each entranceway. While I'm there I can stop at the Disney store and buy some DD$. Got to build up my stash for May.
I'm also going to a consignment shop today with some items that I don't feel like listing on ebay. I've had time to clean out some drawers and closets, so maybe I'll get some extra $ for the trip. I love "found" money!

I had a very good day yesterday! I walked 2.6 mi, which felt wonderful. I've got my pedometer on again today, so I'm hoping the steps add up.
DH and I did a little shopping for our upcoming trips. We went to the Penney's outlet and picked up 2 carry-on pieces of luggage. They're both made really well with lots of pockets and a detachable toiletries holder. We're doing carry-on only when we fly to Tampa, so they'll work just great. I also went to the Disney Store for my $$$$, and ended up finding a couple of deals. Cushy Tink slippers for $5 and "Pirates" T-shirts for the cruise. Not sure if hubby will be into that, but I think I can get him to wear one. I found some mark-downs at Kohl's and got Capris, a beautiful blouse and a straw hat for the cruise for $10.20.- with my $10.00 coupon, I spent $.20-now that's a deal. They were last summer's mark-downs (90%), but who cares?
I know it seems kind of weird for me to be writing about the trips, but that's one of the things that will help me get thru the anxiety of my treatments. I love to plan my Florida trips, it keeps me happy.
Time to focus on my kitchen...not fun.
I'll be back later!

Where have the last few days gone?
I took the beginner beading class on Thursday and really enjoyed it! I'm working on the bracelet and it's coming together nicely. It took me awhile to get the hang of it, but now I find it very therapeutic. I'll be going there one day next week to get some help with the next step. Everyone is so nice!
On Friday, I got the letter from my mammogram which says everything looks good! (big sigh of relief) Yeah! I hung out at home all day cause the weather was so lousy with heavy rain. I made a nice dinner and we relaxed in the evening. DH has been working a bunch of extra hours on a couple of special projects. Thankfully he works for company that allows him to flex his time so he's able to be available for my appts. when I need him. They've been very understanding with him.
I met a friend from work today for lunch. We had a nice time and then I helped her choose a baby gift at "Babies Are Us". I haven't shopped for baby things in ages, so that was fun. Then hubby and I went grocery shopping which we needed to do desperately. He went to bed cause he has to get up at 3:30 for work, and I'm sitting here watching "Father of the Bride" again. No matter how many times I see it, I still enjoy it!
So, my plan for tomorrow is to catch up with some journals. Thanks to everyone who has posted here. I really appreciate your support during this rough time.
