Happy Father's Day to all our dads! DH is thinking he might want a WDW daytrip for Father's Day :smickey:

I'm definitely side-lined for this week. Had a cortisone injection in the bottom of my foot on Friday :scared1: My foot is taped for the next 4 days so I'm not allowed to do anything! I also have a heel cup that I'm supposed to have on my foot with shoes anytime I take a step. I'm not to be barefoot at all...that's pretty hard for a native FL girl! And the podiatrist promises that all this will be most effective if I just purchase the $450 custom molded orthotics (insurance coverage not included) ::yes::

Seriously, though yesterday post-injection was painful, this is the first day in 3 months that I've been pain-free. The cool thing about the doc is that he did the 2006 WDW full (in 4:44) and is on the planning committee for the Sarasota Half/Full.

Colleen...the new training program I found is on the http://www.yourungirl.com. I picked the beginner running program, but they have more advance stuff.

Dana...congrats on the new house!

Tiff...I thought about you when Alberto was coming in :umbrella: ...we had 2 days of wet weather, but not too bad. Had a guy come out for hurricane shutter estimate yesterday :thumbsup2

Nancy...how did you do with the weather?

just an FYI...I did some 'enhancements' to the URLs on our front thread page. I imagine that most of you regulars just skip that page to get to the good stuff every week, but I've added some new URLs and reorganized into categories. Please let me know what you think!

And if you need a room for marathon weekend, check out the resort rates thread. Only 10 rooms needed for a block!

Thought I'd check in since I've been MIA the last couple of weeks!

After my bout with sore knees and shins, everything is going great now. I am loving my new shoes, bought some knee bands that are working great to "hold everything in place", and I am walking/jogging with absolutely no pain whatsoever! :thumbsup2

I had to take a little time off from training (partly for my legs/partly because of a crazy schedule), but I'm back on now. Yesterday morning, I got up early and walk/jogged 7 miles. I wanted to stay under a 13 minute mile average, AND I DID! Finished in 1:29:11, about 12:44/mile! I was very excited, and am well on my way for my 10K in September, 1/2 marathon in October, and the WDW 1/2 marathon in January!

Also, am still doing great with Weight Watchers. I passed the 40 pound mark last Monday, and think I lost another pound or two since then. I'll know at weigh-in tomorrow.

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well. Happy Father's Day to all you fellow dads. Have a good one!

Michael, congratulations! 40+ lbs. that is awesome!  You are on your way and great mileage too!

I ran my little hometown 5K yesterday. It was really a lot of fun. I ran it in 27:30. I was happy with that. I won a little trophy for placing 2nd in my age group and my friend with whom I am running Chicago placed 3rd. I think the course was a little long. My garmin is kind of wacky at times, but it measured 3.35 miles for this course?? :confused3 What was really neat about this 5K race was the "meal" we had after. They had the usual bananas, oranges and bagels, but they also had good ol' southern sweet tea, muffins, trail mix and wraps!! They had tables and chairs set up so we all sat down for our 'meal'. I met a lot of nice people (mental note to self: "runners are really nice people" ;) ).

Tiff, I am glad you had a nice time in WDW! We are debating whether we should book a week in August for the free dining deal going on now. Ah, Mickey, sweating and eating, why can't I convince DH that would be a good thing! :thumbsup2

As for marathon weekend, yes, I bit the bullet and signed up Goofy. I really am mixed about the idea, because I am not sure how my recovery will come along after Chicago, but I will definitely be going that weekend, just not sure which race I will be running. :rolleyes1

Mel, thanks for the website with your training plan. I wonder if it will take off like some of the other sites? Thank you for the work on the group room reservations. If a person already holds a room reservation for that weekend, it should be pretty easy for them to switch over if we decide to go with the group plan, correct?

Well, off to made Shrimp scampi for dinner (DH's request). Happy Father's Day to all you dads.

Micheal-congrats on the weight loss! You are doing great, keep up the good work. Sounds like your running is going good too.

Mel- another year of hurricanes & I bet my mom will be getting those shutters too. I think dad is tired of putting up those boards (they live in Mobile) And if I lived as close as you I would definately be taking DH to WDW for Father's day. HOpe your foot gets bette r& the shot works for you. Thanks for the new links!

Colleen-congrats on the race! You did awesome! You got to love a race that gives you that kind of post race food :thumbsup2 OMG, you signed up for Goofy while I was gone ?!?! Cool , I think my mom is relieved that it filled up while I was out of town. She was afraid I was really going to lose my mind & try it too. Tell DH it isn't "that hot" in Orlando in Aug :rotfl2: I say the heat is worth it for free food & WDW! I thought June would be real bad, but we survived & had a blast.

I just did 2 miles today. But I went out at 5:30 and it was still stinkin' hot! I will be getting up real early this week to get my runs in before DH goes to work. I think that will be much better than when he gets home. It full on training time for me.

Okay it's my once a week check in, sorry for all the bad news last week, and hope you feel better in a few weeks Mel.

Not much to report for me. Have increased my mileage a little bit more than the 10% rule, but so far I seem to be okay (I was gymming for 3 hours a week so I figure I'm okay). Did my 30 min windy run Monday, an hour Wednesday, the gym Thursday, 30 minutes Sat and 70 mins Sun - now all I've got to do is work out how to do another gym session in the middle of that lot. Good news is running buddy has been given the okay to start again so she's coming with me for my 3.5 miles tonight, I need her to keep me motivated as it's winter here and I've climatised big time so, even though it's still 56 during the day I'm freezing!!! Thankfully it'll have warmed up a bit by the time DL hits so I won't be going from frosty cold to hot.

Anyway, that's all my news for this week -off to the dentist now for a filling so better go. Helen

Hey all, I was gone most of last week with my mom for an annual trip we take. Left the kids at home with dad!!! I managed to get in 2 treadmill workouts at the hotel. I planned on running the streets, but my mom wouldn't let me after she saw how not safe it was there in the evenings. There were a lot of "street hang-outers" and she didn't think a woman should be out alone. So I settled for the hotel "old" treadmills. I just got back from 30 minutes of wogging, with it being mostly jogging. The weather here is very hot and humid... just like Florida, only we have it during the summer and not year round!!!

I need to catch up, so if I miss something I should know about, please let me know!!!!

Happy running!

Hi everybody,

Well, against all odds, I actually worked out today. :woohoo: Did a 6 mile LR (though technically it is an OR - only run) on the TR at 1% in 62 minutes. It was a little bit slower than my usual 60 min but I'll take it. It was hard! :faint: Definitely my "punishment" for not doing anything during the week (or since the Minnie, really, if we're being honest). :rolleyes1

Mel- hurricane shutters definitely give peace of mind. Hopefully your neighborhood doesn't have weirdo restrictions on them, like some do. I know they should be taken down promptly, but who cares who puts them up and takes them down? My parents' homeowners' assoc. apparently does. :confused3

I haven't booked my hotel yet for marathon weekend. When does it usually fill up or increase in price? I probably need to do it soon.

Good luck on another week of training! :cheer2:

Dave - Sorry, Saginaw vs. Lake MI beach. Nope, no comparison. ;) The socks rock, though.

Funny aside - I'm working on a special scrap book project and people are sending me pages. Due to my Let's cram it in mail woman, all pages are being sent to work. So, I get home through some nasty rain last night and I see this Priority Mail envelope half sticking out of my box. Nice. I walk to the mail box worried to death that the pages someone worked hard on are trashed. Boy, was I relieved to see Dave's name. Sock!!! Nt only am I now way excited, but I know it's something that will dry ok. Whew! Thanks again Dave!

Does ripping out and installing a new door count as cross trianing? That was the fun we had at the ILs this weekend. Needed to be done, though, and I did get to cool off a bit in the poll with my nephews. :thumbsup2

Mel - Thanks for the new links! Have not had time to check the out, but they look great!!! And thanks for keeping this up each week!! SOrry your pf has beenbothering you!!! :wizard: that the shot and TLC work!!!

Good morning all. Well, I believe it is high time that I return. I have lurked for the past couple of weeks and not posted because I was trying to sort through all of my medical concerns. Seems the last time I posted I explained the issues with my thyroid and all the testing I was going through. An update is that the thyroid is fine, may have to have a biopsy on the nodule they found if there are any changes to it, but in all the tests they found an even bigger concern. I had a lot of labs drawn and each time my glucose levels were high – not real high but high enough and consistent enough to raise a red flag – so the endocrinologist I was seeing for the thyroid ordered a fasting glucose tolerance test. Since diabetes runs in my family I was now very concerned. I had the glucose tolerance test and it should I am glucose intolerant and that I am pre-diabetic. I have worked very hard at maintaining my health (I lost 50 pounds 17 years ago, kept it off, eat a healthy diet, and been very consistent with maintaining a running/fitness program.) and it appears that I am destined to be diabetic. The endo. doc said that if I had not been so good with diet and running I would be a diabetic already with many additional, much worse, health problems. However, she went on to say that I will eventually be diabetic because what is happening is that when I eat there is a very large amount of insulin produced at once that causes my glucose to drop dangerously (during the fasting glucose test they watch for levels to increase but not higher than 160. Well my levels went down to 50 instead of rising as they should have.) and this will eventually burn out the islets that produce the insulin. Now I am testing my blood twice a day and have started on glyset to try and stave off the onset. I have taken the time to feel sorry for myself (about two days then I kicked myself in the butt) and returned to my training and am looking at the world with an entirely new outlook and purpose.

As far as my training is going, I have maintained a 25 to 30-miles-a-week program of running and have actually lost 5 pounds (doc says to loose 10 to delay the onset even more). It is interesting though to now understand why mid run, on runs longer than 40 minutes, I feel a real heavy sense of fatigue and even nausea no matter what my pace is – this is my blood sugar dropping then spiking weirdly to above 130 within 10 minutes. Saturday I ran 10.5 in 1:26 and had to walk after 6 miles with nausea and some shakes that lasted about 3 minutes. I have to experminent to find out what to eat before, during and after my long runs.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for listening. I will try not to be such a stranger from now on.

Thanks, Mike

I can't believe I am making it on the first page this week!! Still being without a personal laptop is KILLING me!! :confused3

Colleen - Congrats on signing up for Goofy (I think!!).

Mel - Sorry about the PF. I developed it in my left foot last October while at WDW and haven't quite kicked it yet. I hope the shot and taping resolves your issue.

Michael - WTG on the 40 lbs loss :cool1: !! No small feat. Glad to hear you're on the mend and the shoes are working well for you.

Helen - Glad to see you're still hanging in there.

Mike - Yeah on the weight loss and for maintaining your training program. Good luck finding out what works for you as far as pre and post-workout meals.

I did 12+ miles on Saturday and WT'ing yesterday. An hour on the TM this morning.

I hope all of the men out there had an awesome Father's Day.

Best of luck to all in meeting goals this week! :cheer2:

Couldn't help myself . . . after my good training session Saturday (and knowing I had a weigh in today at noon) I decided to give it another go this morning. Ran/walked the same course as Saturday, and lowered my time from 1:29:11 to 1:28:17!!! :cool1:

I knew from the first few miles that I had a good time going, but I didn't take my timer with me (left it sitting on my mailbox so I could stop it as soon as I got back). I was floored when I stopped the watch and saw the time. The extra weight loss and the new shoes and knee bands have helped dramatically.

Mike & Mel: lots of pixiedust: for your ailments. Hang in there!

Gotta go . . . wish me luck on my weigh in!

I should just change my screen name to SLUG cause that's what I was this weekend. Well, not exactly a slug as I ran around after four stepkids all weekend, did an enormous amount of work outside, went to a graduation party and a Father's Day BBQ. I was terrifically busy, but...alas.....no training. Then last night I got a splinter in my foot when I was on the deck but I couldn't get it out and I didn't want to wake up DH so I said I'd deal with it in the morning. Really dumb move! It hurt so much this morning I had to have DH dig it out, and so, again...I didn't train. Grrrr. :furious:

Mel - Oucharoonie! I'm sure it will be worth it though. Thanks for the new links! I did actually see them and I intend to check them out later today.

Michael - Glad to hear your are pain free! That's great. Knee bands, huh? Maybe I should get one.... Do you have a picture or name of what you bought? OMG 40 pounds! That's FABULOUS! I once lost 30 pounds on WW and I can't tell you how great that felt! Don't you feel wonderful?!?!?! :cheer2:

Colleen - Yay on the 5K! :cool1: I'm impressed!! :woohoo:

Helen - Hi! :wave2:

Jen - Good advice from your mom. :goodvibes

Carrie - Your mail-lady has to go! :furious:

Mike - Ohh, that sorta stinks. You seem to be doing all the right things and you'll still end up getting it. :wizard: for keeping it under control so it's hardly an issue for you.

Thanks! It does feel great to lose all that weight and get back in shape like I was 15-20 years ago.

Regarding the knee bands, I just started looking online to try and remedy my problem. Found them shown on several websites specializing in knee braces and wraps. The ones I got are by Mueller. They are just velcro-type bands that attach right under your knee cap (the soft part just above your shin). There is a stiff tube-like apparatus in the front that you snug up against your leg when you strap them on. I got mine at Wal-mart for about $6 each. One of the best investments I've ever made. My knees/shins are literally pain free. :thumbsup2

Judy - We have teh worst mail carriers! DOn't even get me started. Of course, I'm afraid to complain, as worse service than I'm getting would mean bills not arriving and such. I fell like I'm trapped! You are not a slug!! We all go through times when it;s hard to work out. Just don't make a habit of it! ;)

Michael - WTG!!! That is aweseome!!

Sara - You rock!!! That's great!

GoofyGuy - :grouphug: I know I am headed that way too. I have had low blood sugar as long as I can remember (not enough to set off flags, but I have all the signs)and diabetes is on both sides of the family. (Reminder to self that that's why I need to get on the stick again) I get the nausea and fatigue if I go more than 40 to 50 minutes w/o Gu. If I take very 4 miles, I do ok. If I pass my point of no return though (~60 mintes), I'm done. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this, but it sounds like you're doing very well. My father ate pretty well and exercised hi whole life, so he held off until 60 when he was diagnosed. He does failry well and after he got htings under control, he realized tha the could have a day every couple weeks where he had aice cream or dessert like a normal person. Hang in there!!!! Although it's more fun to pretend you can eat anything you want, especially when you run, it is good to catch this early!

Hi everyone!!

I'm so sorry to hear about everyone's difficulty and sadness of late. :grouphug: for everyone.

I apoligize for being away for the rest of last week. It's been a strange few dyas--- just feeling very out of sorts lately for no apparent reason. I don't know what's up. :confused3 I have been running 2-3 miles here and there, my usual 9:15-9:45/mile pace, so no big gains around these parts.

Michael-- Congrats on the weight loss. Sounds like your training is going wonderfully. :thumbsup2

Colleen-- GREAT!! Another :goofy:

Dave-- I got the socks in the mail Saturday. They look great!! Thanks for setting that up.

200 DAYS?!?! Where did the time go?!?! It's hard to believe we are coming up on 6 months since the last race-- feels like yesterday I was standing in that corral ready to go.

I am officially on vacation from now until June 29th!! :cool1: I leave for Toronto on Wednesday morning, so the next couple of days are full of all those fun pre-vacation errands... Laundry, Packing, House Cleaning. I should be running a 5K Saturday, but of course I have yet to sign up... I am making myself decide by the end of the day what to do one way or another. I want to, I just can't make myself register for it.

Got to dash!

I deal with the above low sugar problems also. I have been told that I will be diabetic in the future. After having my second child, I because lazy and didn't lose the excess weight (plus some). She turned 3 in April, so I decided that running was going to help me get this weight off. I already have the nasty vericose veins from being overwight and that really bugs me. As of 3 weeks ago I also went back to doing WW, so far I have lost 25 pounds from my high weigh after my 2nd was born. I wan't to lose 45 more before the marathon... and I am determined to do it.

Does anyone else have bad vericose veins on their calves, and is it causing a problem. Mine is hereditery, but my weight didn't help. My doctor did say I would eventually have to get this fixed. My last PG really made them pop out more and they haven't decreased in size at all. I worry that the increased blood flow with running will cause a problem. I go to the doctor next week and will talk to her about it, but was wondering if anyone else has this problem. I am only 34 and seem too young to be dealing with this.

Thanks and Happy Running!

I just wanted to check in with you all and again express our gratitude for your kind thoughts and prayers. My dad has been fighting hard but unfortunately his body is just not strong enough after a long week of constant stress. So they are moving him to a hospice facility this afternoon. It is hard to believe that just a week ago he was relatively healthy living a normal independent life and now he is in hospice care. I am just so sad and it will be hard to say good-bye - I just love him so much. I'll check in again when I am up to it and again I am so very thankful for the kind support you have all given during this impossiblly difficult time.

Congratulations of leaping into the Goofy. My sign up for the double last year was a bit like your internal conversation, and went like this . . .

My training was going well in the spring and I was really focusing on the half marathon, expecting a nice time. I was in Boulder, Colorado last memorial day, the weekend of Boulder Boulder, and Disney had a table on the outdoor mall as part of the race/trade show. I chatted with the young lady from Disney sports, and she convinced me to sign up. She used unfair tactics, pointing out that by then 800 people/lunatics had already signed up, so I told her, okay, here is number 801.

Even after signing up I wasn't sure that I could do it. I trained hard for that strong half marathon, and thought of registering for Goofy as purchasing an option. I would be in Orlando for 6 days, and I was really committed to the half. I'd do that on Saturday, and then if I couldn't get out of bed Sunday morning, so be it. My strategy was to go all-out for the half, and then see what was in the tank for the full.

As the year went on and I felt stronger and stronger and I wanted to make the Goofy, I changed the strategy, consciously backing off 30 seconds per mile for the half marathon, leaving more in the tank for the full marathon. This strategy was successful, as I got the half a bit faster than my goal, and I finished the full in a respectable time.

I well understand your questioning the ability to get both, but as the months go by and your training builds, I suspect on Friday evening January 5, 2007, you'll be very confident you'll get them both.

Good luck

Craig

I go to the doctor next week and will talk to her about it, but was wondering if anyone else has this problem. I am only 34 and seem too young to be dealing with this.

Thanks and Happy Running!

Jenn, I had major vein problems after my second child-birth. I finally had them done last summer. First vein closure of the greater safonous veing (spelling?) and then vein ligation and stripping of both legs. I was very pleased with the results. No more throbbing and creapy crawly sensations, not to meniont the ugliness.

With my latest herniated disc I've been standing non-stop. With the percocet they gave me for pain I encountered major constipation (sorry, TMI) and felt a vein burst in my lower left shin. I'm so disappointed. It throbs and creeps but doesn't show on the outside yet. I've gone back to wearing the anti-embolishm stockings; Between my lack of mobioity, my compression stockings and my left elbow brace I look like a total 80 yo invalid. :confused3 I feel like screaming at people, "I used to be a runner just 2 short months ago...

Waaah, 200 days, it doesn't get any easier not being able to play you know, although, yeeeeeaaaah 565 days until I go Goofy (hmm, maybe I shouldn't start training just yet). Well I've stuck at DL training for two weeks now, in very cold temps so I'm feeling all proud - and running buddy is back, we did 3.7 miles Monday night, although she wasn't happy that her legs started hurting half way round (she ran her 11th marathon 6 weeks ago and she didn't think she'd lose it THAT fast), Why I do I know she'll be lapping me again in about a fortnight.

So tomorrow night's run is an hour - which is supposed to end up in the sea for the annual running club midwinter swim. Normally the big fire truck comes to light the beach and illuminate all the fools in the very, very cold water, apparently it's not coming this year though so I may just take off a trainer and dip in a foot. It's a bit dark in that water otherwise!

Anyway, hope everyone has a good week. Helen

Carrie, Sara, Michael, and Judy, thanks for the kind words and support. I feel bad that I allowed myself to feel sorry for myself, even if it was just for a couple of days, but I knew that I would recieve support from the boards. I know that things could, and almost were, be a lot worse so I will move on and make some lemon ade. Carrie, hey maybe we can comiserate when we feel like feling sorry for ourselves (NOT).

Rhonda, I am so sorry to hear about your dad and am sending boatloads of :wizard: PD your way. Keep strong and look to us for support; we will always be here.

Good morning, everyone!! :sunny: Is the marathon really 199 days away?? :scared1: I'm writing a trip report from our January trip, (I post them on Mouse Planet, if anyone wants to check them out, I have about 4 or 5 on there. My "real" name is Krista Fulkerson) I got about half way through and stopped working on it because I got busy with other things. I reread what I had written with the intention to start writing it again and lo and behold, I motivated myself for training and got excited again. :dance3: Yes, I ran last night, 30 minutes on the treadmill r3/w2, I did about 2.5 miles which disappointed me because I run faster and further outside, but I was happy about it too because I do tend to go slower on the treadmill and I went faster than I normally do. I'm doing another 30 tonight, hopefully outside (if the weather permits) and with Hines, he LOVES to run, right his limit is about running 3 or walking 4. :dogdance:

Okay, so since Stephen is super busy at work right now and doesn't have time to post, I'll post for him. :teeth: On Sunday he did a triathlon, it was 6 miles canoeing, a 10K run, and an 18 mile bike ride. His total time was 2:55 and he and his partner came in 31st out of over 300 teams. Stephen and Mark are already discussing their strategy for next year and how to improve their time.

Rhonda-- :grouphug: for you and your dad. You are both in my prayers during this time.

Colleen-- :cheer2: Congrats on going Goofy!!

Kevin--Have a great time on your vacation!! I'm so jealous, I could use some time off. Oh well, 100 days til Disney. ::MickeyMo

Dave--Since I didn't comment last week, I'll comment on Roethlisberger now. I love Ben, I think he is a terrific QB, but I think he was incredibly stupid for not wearing a helmet and I'm so glad and thankful that is going to be okay. I completely understand the whole invincible thing though, I'm 27 and at times, I feel like nothing can touch me because I'm so young and I hopefully have a long life in front of me. Of course that's not true and I know that at any time life could be over, but it's very easy to get caught up in the "I'm young" and in his case "I'm famous and the world is at my feet" and forget for a second that you are human. I think he learned a valuable lesson last week. So, how do you feel about Santiago Holmes? I think he'll learn very soon that Coach Cowher, the Rooney family, the Steeler organization, and the city of Pittsburgh will not tolerate such behavior.

Mel-- :wizard: for your foot. Is it feeling any better?

Sunny-- :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Helen--Are you SURE you can't run Disney in January? We are going to miss you!! ::yes::

Carrie--That is too funny about your mail carrier. I can sympathize, if a car is parked in front of our mailbox and the mail carrier can't reach the mailbox without getting out of the mail truck, they won't deliver the mail! The next day we'll get too stacks of mail with a post it note saying the mailbox was block. It's especially frustrating when it's someone's car that we don't know and they just happen to be parked in front of our house.

Mike-- :wizard: :wizard: for your health!! I hope you get some results soon.

I better get back to work, although I'd rather stay and play with you guys! I'll check back in later.

Helen - I'm sorry you can't be ther ein January! At least you have DL, though!!! 11 marathons in 6 weeks?????? :smokin: and a bit crazy too! ;)

GoofyGuy - We all feel sorry for ourselves sometimes. We are human. Good for you for getting over it quickly, though!!!!

Krista - Thanks fro working out! We miss you when you dont'! ;) Tell Stephen congratulations!!!

Craig - So good to see you!! Just recalling your struggles baout the Goofy last year! So glad you're feeling stronger this year!!

Sunny - :grouphug: You are still a runner! I wish I could wave my wand and make it go away!

ETA: Did Curves for XT last night. Squeezed it in a very busy schedule. I'm so proud of me. :p (baby steps, you know) Hope to run Wed, Thur, Sat or Wed, Frid Sat.

Rhonda - lots more :wizard: and :grouphug: coming your way.

This is a total drive-by, but I am so aggravated I just have to vent to some people who may understand. I posted this on the WW thread, but tend to be over here more often.

My doctor's office FINALLY called me back regarding the doctor's note that my Weight Watchers leader suggested I get from him. (my leader knows how I have been stuck about 4-6 lbs. above goal for almost a year now)

My doctor refuses to write me a note saying my weight is healthy for me! He told his office person to tell me that my BMI is still too high and that I am welcome to come in and talk to him about it further! Umm, hello - I was there 3 weeks ago and you told me about how a liquid diet would help me lose these final 4-6 lbs.! Oh, and he also told me that the new finding is that exercise does not help you lose weight (said in response to me saying that I now exercise and even completed a 15k). What kind of doctor suggests that?! Yeah, I'll go on a liquid diet and stop exercising...

I know I should have switched docs long, long ago - but I was lazy about it. There have been many other incidents in the past also with this guy.

I am going over there after work and having my records sent to my new doctor. Hopefully, the new one will really, really listen to me and see that I am certainly not looking for an easy way out. Shoot, I never would have even asked for a note had my leader not suggested it!

I am going to find a corner somewhere here at work and do this :furious: as quietly as I can.

Hi, everyone! I noticed that so many of my posts recently haven’t “taken” when I posted. Even some of the updates to the challenge thread didn’t change after they appeared on my screen. Isn’t that weird? Is anyone else having DIS problems. I feel like an addict who can’t get a fix. ;) So, now I am doing a post in word processing and trying to paste it. Numerous attempts and still not sure this is working. :confused3

I am actually catching up from the end of last week’s thread.

Sunny – How did the MRI go? How are you feeling?

Heather – how did the shopping, er, cross-training go? When DS and I went to see a Broadway show last summer we walked from our hotel all the way to St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Disney Store and the NBA store and back again. I thought the walking was great cross-training!

Jodi – I am so glad you are having such a great time planning the surprise for your DH. Do you have to arrange for him to be out of work or anything like that? My best friend took his wife and kids to WDW on a surprise long weekend and he set it up with her principal ahead of time for her to be away from work. She was stunned and thrilled.

Hi, Dana! Hope you are loving the new house. I have always enjoyed moving, the feeling of a fresh start and a chance to organize everything. I hope you are enjoying the process.

Tiff – I was soooo excited when I saw you mention you’d like to walk the Full with me. That would be so much fun! Rhonda and I had a blast doing the ½ together and the Minnie and it was so much fun to be with other WISHers whenever our paces meshed. I would LOVE for you to do the Full with us. The more the merrier. We can do the “thunderation” cheer that Lily made up for us. BTW, do you have a walking partner for the DL ½ yet? I am hoping to find some WISHers at a 15:00 or lower pace to walk/jog with. It would be so much more fun to do it with someone rather than alone.

Christa – I am so jealous that you are in my family’s “happy place”. We LOVE Hilton Head, especially at Thanksgiving. I hope you are having a fabulous time. We have never gone during the summer. That may be something to consider for next summer, now that we own points there and could book at 11 months.

Mel – I am so sorry you are going through such problems with your PF. I hope the cortisone shots help.

Michael – congratulations on the weight loss! That is awesome! :cool1:

Colleen– awesome time on your 5K! So glad you enjoyed it and that they fed you well after.

Helen – can’t wait to see you in DL!

Jenny – 6 miles when you haven’t had time to do other shorter runs is very ambitious! You go, girl!!

Mike – I can’t imagine running that many miles every week. I can’t even walk that many. Good job on working on your future health now and not when the issues flare up.

Judy – I think you are the last person to be called a “slug” – hey, did you know they actually list barn chores in the activity points list on the weight watchers website? Pretty impressive numbers, too. Let me know if you don’t have access to that feature and want details.

Kevin – Hope you are having a great trip to Ontario!

Jen – I have actually noticed that I have vein-shaped bumps on my calves now – they aren’t blue but they definitely look like protruding veins. Do you think it is from walking/jogging? I guess I should ask the doctor, huh? Is there anything to worry about? Or just how they look?

Krista – So glad to hear you are enjoying training again. Congratulations to Stephen and his partner on an awesome finish! :thumbsup2

Kristi– I am hoping your new doctor is sensible and helpful. :goodvibes

Good morning -

I did 45 min @ 1% @ 3.8 this morning. After missing three days I have a question....Today my legs are killing me! And this after missing three days. What they heck happens during a taper??? Towards the end of a taper you aren't training at all, is that right? I can't imagine missing any more then the three days I just missed! I'd be so stiff I wouldn't be able to move on Marathon day! (Keep in mind I'm 45. I don't bounce back like I used to!)

Dave - Got my socks yesterday and they are so cool! :thumbsup2 I was so excited! I'm sure the people driving by saw me standing at our mailbox ripping the package open and saying - out loud of course - "Dave, these are so cool!!" Thanks very much for all your efforts. They are my first piece of official WISH Racing Team apparel! :teeth:

Oh Rhonda - I know how hard this is.... :grouphug:

Sunny - Oh you poor thing. I'm sending :wizard: that you catch a break soon.

Helen - I'm geographically challenged so please excuse my ignorance but you don't have winters like we do here (I'm in New York) do you? OK I realize this is probably really a dumb question but I honestly thought it was always fairly warm in N.Z.

Krista - Way to go Stephen! :cheer2: And way to go to you too! :woohoo: Don't you dare be disappointed in anyway! Hey! You DID IT didn't you?????

Carrie - Baby steps work wonders! I know that for a fact! I've used them many times for many things!!

Kristi - Get thyself to a new doctor, woman! :rolleyes1

Gosh I sure miss Cam.....

Well, I am pleased to report that I have stuck to my DL ½ Marathon training plan since it started on 6/11.
Here is what my training log shows:
Sun 6/11 (rest) – did 50 mins on bike
Mon 6/12 – walk 30 mins
Tues 6/13 (x-train 30 mins) – elliptical 35 mins
Weds 6/14 (rest)
Thurs 6/15 walk 30 mins; 30/60 second sprint intervals
Fri 6/16 (xt 30 mins) – floor exercises, calisthenics 30 mins
Saturday (walk 2 miles) – 2.85 miles avg. pace 14:57
Sunday (rest) – 45 mins bike
Monday (walk 30 mins) – TM at gym 30 minutes 2.03 miles

The schedule calls for 30 mins cross-training today and I will go after my WW meeting. It is going to be a crazy weekend with DH's birthday (Fri), DD's party (Sat.) and taking DS to "college" on Sunday, so I may skip my rest day tomorrow and move Thursday's 30 mins plus sprint training up to tomorrow and Saturday's LW to Friday morning. Then Saturday can be a rest day and I can do some kind of cross-training on Sunday.

Wow, Cam, you do a LOT of training. Suddenly my training looks vastly inadequate...

Now, THAT is REALLY funny!!!! :rotfl2:

Judy, I really don't think that 30 minutes a day is a lot of training, especially when a lot of our team are doing 6 mile RUNS! Oh, I feel so inadequate. The only reason I am not beating myself up is because the Penguin says this is what I should be doing right now. As a matter of fact, the only reason I did stuff on the 2 Sundays (that should have been rest days) is because I felt like a slug for "resting" after having done NO hard work the day before.

Oh, well, the plan worked for me for the WDW 2006 Half. So I have to believe it will get me where I need to be for Disnelyland.

This time I slowed down and read. I hope I remember all my comments.

Mel-- ouch on the shot, but I'm glad to hear you are finally out of pain.

Michael-- congrats on 40lbs that is a major achievement. you should be very proud.

Mike-- I'm sorry to hear you are facing diabetes even with all the healthy precautions you have put in place. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Sending PD your way.

Rhonda -- I am so sorry to hear your father has taken this turn. My thoughts ad prayers are with you and your family.

Cam-- you are a workout MACHINE! Way to go. I so jealous!!!!!!

Kristi-- I think you and I could keep a thread going on drs alone. Of course it would be a rant thread :furious: Imagine how bad my new dr situation is that I actually, willfully switched back to Lahey Clinic yesterday! Aside from other issues, when I got to the Mt Auburn hospital and saw Anthrax warnings posted every 10 feet on the building I knew I didn't want to be there. I work in bioterror-defense and I know they don't put up warnings just for the heck of it. SO I will be seing my new pcp at Lahey tomorrow.

MRI shows a bunch of things that I can't make sense of. I sent it off to Dr. Lynn and she says I'm justified in complaining like a baby about my pain :(

I'm at work today for the first time in 2 weeks. I am mostly standing at my pc. I can't wait to feel better. The next two weeks are supposed to be vacation for me and DS. I was going to take him hiking and biking and camping... URRRGGGGHHHH :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: I wish I could reschedule his camp so we didn't waste all that vacation time, but I can't.

Sorry to rant more.

Oh and Kristi-- you've got to find a new doctor. My dr (Dr WhoCaresAnyway) wrote me a note for WW. I had my speach all prepared and was all nervous and she basically said, "sure, I'll write it for what ever you want" Like it was just a joke anyway. I set mine 5lbs higher than the WW cutoff. I'm glad I did or I might still not have made LT!!!!!!!

Judy - Actually, when the taper starts, your legs will start hurting from NOT working out so much. Then, you'll do a short one (I think 20 minutes for both distances) the day before to loosen you up. Plus, you won't go days without trianing, you'll just decrease times/distances.

Cam - 30 minutes is fine! Listen to the Penguin! And, it's much better than my track record as of late!

Sunny -

There are a couple of things that stick out that I wanted to say.

Rhonda- I wish you all the best during this extremely difficult time. I'm so sorry your father has taken this turn, and you have all the support of this fellow WISH team member.

Mike- PD :wizard: :wizard: on your recent health trouble. It does sound like your exercise and healthy living has helped offset your genes a little bit. Hopefully you'll be able to keep your blood sugar under control.

Sunny- PD :wizard: :wizard: on a speedy recovery to your back. I hope you get some help and relief soon.

To everyone else, I'm sorry I don't have time to address everyone, but keep up the great training and running. And keep posting - but not so much that it makes the server so busy that I can't post!

It's just ridiculous, Dave, isn't it?
I find I am spending so little time here and the time I do spend doesn't feel like quality. There is always a desperate feel to it as I wonder whether my posts are going to "take". It's gotten to where I can't even tell if a thread has been posted to, because the pages showing the threads seem to be significantly lagging before the actual posts. That is soooo frustrating!

No exaggeration -- I bet I "lose" 8 posts/thread updates out of 10.

Maybe that is why the :badpc: smilie is now on the front of the smilies page. :rotfl:

Dave - Let me give you a little hint....I compose all my replys in Word so I can toggle back and forth between Word and the thread. (Then I can spell check too. You all didn't think I was THAT good a typist, did you???) then I cut and paste it in my reply. Only after I am SURE that it has posted do I then scrap the Word document. :thumbsup2

I know it's not hte same as a list, but you know you can e-mail from the boards, right? As long as the person has chosen to accept e-mails, you can go to their profile and click Send E-mail. It's right below PM.

Cam- you can walk with me & mom! We usually train for 14:30 pace but I am not wanting a PR or anything for the race. I only want to finish & enjoy the whole event. Meaning 14:30- 15 min pace is perfect! I dont remember what we put down for our finish time to see if we'd be in the same corral. But if its anything like WDW, they dont check anyway. OH, and I am really, really, really thinking hard about the full. I have already told DH that you said you would walk with me :woohoo:

Dave- I was having big problems with the server yesterday! I feel your pain.

Minnie- It's ok, just get out there & walk. Dont have any expectations except to get out there & put one foot in front of the other. I know how you feel, I was so disappointed in my performance after the Minnie that I didnt walk for 3 weeks. It feels great to be back into the program again!

Sunny- PD for you! I sure hope you get better soon!

Kristi-Shame on that Dr. That is ridiculous. Wow, he should write a book, stop exercising & only drink some shakes. Real healthy :sad2: Good luck in finding a good new one.

Dave-Thanks for taking on the sock thing. I have sent your payment! I hope your shins keep getting better.

Sorry I can't get everyone in, but I have to go to baseball fields to get DS trophy.

I have been fully back into training & it feels great. I've done my SR & xt & I am loving being back into a schedule again. Although, I could do without the heat! :sunny: My legs are a little sore from weights last night, but its a good sore (see, those aliens are still here  )

Two posts in two days, I must not be working hard enough. But just wanted to reply to a few folks

Krista: no definitely can't make it. It's Tim's 40th mid Dec and he had the choice of where to go and he wants to be in London watching his soccer team. We could have gone to Fla on the way back but it seemed a bit tricky datewise so next year it is.

Carrie: Sorry, you'd never guess I write for a living, guess I don't always do the words good. I meant that she'd done her 11th ever marathon six weeks ago, not that she'd done in 11 in six weeks (though I wouldn't it past her).

Judy: No, compared to a New York winter, we've got bikini weather here. In fact, it's bright blue sky and sunshine today, probably 60 degrees. But the last few nights we've had winds from the ski fields down south which has taken it down to about 40 degrees, which for our now tropical heat thinned blood is absolutely freezing!!! I have no idea how I'm going to cope in England in December, I may go into the hotel and not come out!

That's it - still doing the hour run tonight, hope it stays nice and dry. Helen

I just registered for the half. I’m excited but nervous about starting this new adventure. I’m a beginner and will probably be attempting to walk the half. I need help figuring out how to add the clipart to my signature. I followed directions that were in another post – but all I see is a red x in my signature. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Hi Everyone :wave2: ,

It has been so crazy busy at work lately – and there is no sign of it slowing down anytime soon. :faint:

Last Friday they were moving people around (starting after 5p.m.), well one of my fellow admins had a family emergency so I packed up her desk to help out……I tell you on Thursday and Friday I didn’t even take lunch --- I’m just catching up on my work from last week but with all that my friend was going through I don’t mind one bit (I’m glad I could help her out).

Dave – Love the socks, just got them yesterday :woohoo:

Sunny – I loved your cake from last week! I know there was another cake out there by someone else but can’t remember who it was --- wish I was that good with things.

Hi Cam :wave2: ,

I wasn’t able to schedule time off for my DH but I have him coming in that Friday (he would be leaving CT at 6:30PM – arrival in Florida at somewhere around 9:00PM). Saturday and Sunday no worries, Monday he will just have to schedule off himself – that’s why I decided not to wait until January to tell him about the trip, but to actually do it on our Anniversary (In October), which I’m actually going to move that celebration up a weekend. I already told him that he has to beat it that the Saturday (21st of October), so I can set up my basket and balloons, etc. for Sunday morning.

I actually contacted Disney, they gave me company that supplies their balloons, and I ordered a couple of official Disney World park Balloons (they are the Mickey/Minnie mylar balloons). In addition, I bought balloons at a local party store. I hope he is super surprised; I’m working so hard at the surprise.

199 Days.... Wow, Judy you are like me ;) I usually do a count down of some sort, unfortunately I haven’t had the time to do anything lately. :rolleyes2

Kristi - Get thyself to a new doctor, woman! Kristi, I agree with Judy and the others. :teeth:

Okay, now as for training – Tonight I went to the fitness center and did 10 minutes on the elliptical, 20 minutes on the stationary bike……..then I moved onto doing 3 miles on the threadmill (although not thrilled with the time of 33 minutes – I’ll take it, I was just enjoying myself).

Well, have a good night everyone, I will try and check in tomorrow (I’m sorry I haven’t been around much lately).

Jodi

I am back from the Big Apple. I had a great trip. We had a special event last night at the Museum of Modern Art for clients and it was fantastic! I got to see Van Gogh's Starry Night and Monet's Water Lillies. I did get in some xt on 5th Avenue. Shopped at the World of Disney Store, American Girl, and Build-a-Bear. It was fun to get away, but I really missed my family and am glad to be home.

I have yet to start my training for DL, but I promise to start soon. (You notice I did not say tomorrow).

I love the WISH socks! My mom was so excited that she gets a pair. She is on board with going to DL with me in September. She is looking forward to being part of the Scream Team. Thanks again Dave!

Why is running with my dog always an adventure? We went to a running park last night to get in our run. On the way over he was pacing in the car and crying, I figured he had to potty. We get there, I get him out and he goes, I thought to myself, "good, now he won't have to go while we run". We started out doing 2-2, I was feeling great and running in the 9:00's and walking in the upper 12:00's. I was able to run in 9:00's the entire time, but we ended up walking in the 16:00's because every time we stopped to walk, Hines would tug on his leash to get over to the grass and would start peeing, he was peeing while he was walking! We did that for a while, until one walk break he started really tugging on the leash and wouldn't walk with me, so we stopped and he started sniffing around looking for a place to #2 potty. Thankfully I grabbed a couple of potty bags before we started, so I cleaned everything up, looked around and no garbage can. I had to run with a bag of poop in my hand for about a quarter mile, I thought I was going to throw up! After that episode, we continued on, during another walk break, Hines starts peeing and walking again, and then he started sniffing around, I thought "oh no!", but he wasn't looking for a place to place to potty, he plopped himself down on the ground and laid down. I guess he was tired! I made him get up, we only had 7 minutes to go. The last minutes of my run I had to slow down to an 11:00 pace because he was so far behind me, I couldn't drag him to go any faster!!! We ran 2.62 in 30 minutes, although I think it took us 40 minutes to run 30 and when we finished, Hines drank SO much water (there's a drinking fountain for dogs at the park), I thought he was going to make himself sick. So it was quite the adventure we had last night! Can't wait to do it again. ;) Stephen laughed at me the entire time, I told him he gets Hines next time! Oh, and Stephen said thanks for all the congrats on his tri.

Jodi--When is your anniversary? Our anniversary is Oct. 21. This year is the big 6 for us. Have fun planning! Although I don't know how you do it. Stephen and I sit down and plan everything, but I make him call and make all the reservations and ADR's. For some reason I just don't like doing it. How is your foot? Feeling better?

Helen--We will miss you! Guess I have to run Disney in 2008 now. :teeth:

Heather--It sounds like you had an awesome time! I'm very jealous, I would LOVE to go to New York City, I have never been.

Kristi--Your doctor sounds like a real winner! Have you found a new one yet?

Dana--I forgot to tell you congrats on your new house. Stephen and I built our house 2 1/2 years ago, we had so much fun and it was such a great process. It was really cool to see an empty piece of land turn into our home. We've already decided when we move, we are building again.

Speaking of building, where is Liz??

Tiff-- How is VBS going? Ready to pull your hair out yet?

Monte--Good job on your 10K.

Minnie--I completely know what you mean. After Disney and after the Flying Pig, I was nervous and scared to get started again, that's why I took off so much time after each event. I don't even know how to describe it, but I was definitely scared. Just start back slow, go for leisurely walks and ease back in. Do you have a mp3 player? Whenever I don't feel like working out, I always download new music, I get excited to listen to my new songs, but the only time I use my mp3 player is when I run, so I have to run to listen to my new songs. :rockband:

I better get off here and start my day. It's going to be a long one, I have to work a chili fest for the fire dept from 10-2ish. I'm the "to go coordinator", sounds important, huh? It just means that people pay me if they want their food to go. I'm not looking forward to it, it's outside and it's storming here with a high of 88. At least I get out of the office for a little bit!

Good morning,

Gosh, the summer has been pretty hot so far. This has been my running experience the last few days. Did a little speed work yesterday, but the kids put a quick end to that as they needed to get to the pool.

Sunny

Sunny: It's the throbbing and ugliness that I hate. I go to my doctor on Monday and will discuss it with her. I have had these veins since college and I am only 34 now. I really don't want to be stripped yet, unless she feels it is necessary. My fear is blood clots, but I don't know if varicose veins can cause that.

Cam: One of mine started as just a bump, but not the others. I have one that burst while I was PG because I have a pernament bruise on my rear calf. If you are concerned, ask your doctor the next time you are in.

I haven't signed up for my 5K yet. I pulled the registration form out and it hit me... IT'S NEXT SATURDAY. YIKES. DH says to just do it. I will probably be faster than my last one which I did in 39 minutes. I am aiming for 35 this time. I guess I should just send it in.

Oh but then reality hit when I realized summer is flying by and the 10K I want to run is the first week of September. I think I better start upping my mileage, especially on my weekend run. It is really hard for me to go more than 3 miles on weekdays because of my kids. We are going camping this weekend and I already announced that I will be running Saturday morning. Hopefully the campground roads are nice, and it will be a great visual change for me!

I think I'm back on the workout wagon! Yesterday I did 3.1 miles on the TM in 29m51s at 2%. Today will probably be another 3-4 miles, plus lots of XT (in the form of packing and lifting heavy moving boxes). DBF and I haven't hired any moving help, so I'm going to be totally ripped by the end of the move :rotfl:

Cam - thanks for the encouragement! I've actually done a few runs since the Minnie, but I wanted to do a longer one last Sunday as a wake up call to myself that I've been losing fitness over the last month. It worked!

Krista - I wish I could run with my dog, but he has joint problems. I wonder if he would ride in a baby jogger... :dogdance:

Krista - Your local outdoor store should have collapable (cloth) doggie water bowls. You can put it in your waist pack for hines. I got one for Ec's Buddy as he was running all of our long runs w/ us and I was sick of stopping at puddles!

On vacation. I'll be back to post more later. Planning on riding the bucking bronco tomorrow. Hope she is good to me!

Good morning all. :sunny:

No training today, as it is a rest day.

Cam - Holy cow! I do at LEAST 2 and a half hours of chores per weekday. Man! That's like another whole meal! :teeth: Well, this is all good in theory but I'm not losing ANY weight doing WW on my own. I'm actually going to my first meeting Saturday morning. I NEED this.

Carrie - Well, I was actually thinking if we couldn't get on the boards and wanted to get in touch with someone. Being that the server is making us all nutso lately. If anyone wants my email it's easy...Honeibee@yahoo.com. I check it every day. :surfweb:

Minnie - How are you doing today? :flower3:

Monte - Hey, at least you DID the 10k! I think that's great! :woohoo:

Helen - OK that does it. I can never move to N.Z. No one is ever going to see me in a bikini! :rotfl: Seriously though, it sounds lovely.

Dave - Oh Dave, don't be scared. Listen, if I can do this, anyone can. I'm 45, 40 pounds over weight and not that long ago had ACL replacement surgery. Plus I've never been athletic in my life. Mind you, I'm not running the entire Half, but I just keep plugging away, doing intervals, adding a little more. When things start to hurt I back off a bit. But I keep going. Keep improving. Even if it's just the tiniest most minuscule bit of microscopic improvement. Please don't be scared. Give your shins what they need but keep plugging away. I bet you'll amaze even yourself.

Jodi - I have a ticker in my signature so I can keep tabs on how much time I have left. :teeth:

Krista - Thanks for sharing the Hines adventure! Sorry to laugh at your expense but it was kinda funny! :lmao:

Heather - You do realize I'm only about 40 min north of Manhattan... :rolleyes1

Hey do we have any plans for Saturday night dinner? I mean after the Half? I know you Full guys have to get to bed early, but DH and I were thinking about ADRs and wondering where we should have dinner Saturday night.

Minnie  I totally relate to what you are feeling. Right now I can't run at all. I'm signed up for Goofy and I still don't have a clue when I'll be able to get out there and try out one measily mile. :furious: Its frustrating, depressing, terrifying. Just a couple of days ago I started carrying a couple of pictures with me; one WDW marathon pict and one "arms" pict to prove to myself I really was an athlete. All I feel like right now is useless. Not only have I lost the abiilty to workout, I feel like I am losing the desire. Its terrifying. I'm sitting by the phone waiting for a call for my neurosugeon apt. I have to drive back into Cambridge today to pick up my MRI (all I have right now is the written results). That's driving without the ability to look both ways. Should be a life-risking activity :confused3

Dave-- You have made incredible progress since you started walking back in Jan(?). Maybe you've progressed just a little too fast. Don't get discouraged. I know you can do it. Just keep researching all the areas that might lead to shin recovery. Good luck. I know how frustrating it is to want to run and feel your body might not be able to do it. Don't give into that negativity :)

Dave & Cam-- I've had many server busy issues lately, too. If I was more organizied I'd do the Judy thing ::yes::

Colleen-- If, I mean WHEN I run Goofy, I plan to do the half at about a 12-13 mm.

Jodi-- the other cake was done by Lynda (Crazy4Pooh). It was awsome. I've never attempted the shape cakes.

Monte-- congrats on the 10K :cool1:

Jen-- In my case, my mother has a history of clotting which they said put me at risk for deep vein thrombosis (sp?) which is life threatening so mine was considered necessary (TG) I never could have paid for it myself. I have been throb, creepy-crawly sensation free for one year. Now, the combination of standing for 2 weeks straight and the constipation I ended up with from the percocet (sorry, TMI  ) I have one starting again. It doesn't show on the outside but I can feel the surging and creepy-crawly. I am so bumbed. This pneumonia has had far reaching ill -effects :furious:

But depending on what vein it is, you may be able to have the closure procedure done. I had that done first on my left leg. I believe it can only be done on the greater safenous vein (sp?). It was a really easy, nearly painless recovery. Stripping was another story...

I've eased into the WDW Half idea with Paul. I've used my latest pneumonia, tendonitis, sciatica for sympathy and said, "if I ever get to run again, do you think you would run the half at Disney with me? It would be just the two of us, we'd go just for the weekend and not tell DS". Of course this totally breaks my heart to go without DS but financially we really can't afford to go at all. He said, "sure" but he shows no signs of contemplating training! He could pull off a 5K without training, maybe even a 10K, but 13.1 miles is a different story.

I went to the Y last night with DD. I got her set up on Fitlynxx. She was so proud at the end to see she lifted 4,500 lbs. I bit my lip and refrained from saying "I lift 80,000 lbs in a session). What are mom's for? But she was cute, too. She very carefully, worded her concern of not wanting to get really big muscles, would she end up looking like me? :rotfl: :lmao: I assured her at the rate she willing to lift that will never happen! Not to mention she is a stick up and down to begin with. I also walked on a TM while she wogged. Oh that was hard. Everytime she went into a run it was all I could do to not join her. The odd thing is, I know I could run without pain but I know the pain would come back to bite me later. What I don't know is, would that actually cause more damage? Hopefullly I'll know soon.

Thank you MelR!!!! I saw my (yet another) new PCP this morning and very sheepishy referred to myself as an endurance athlete, I quickly added "but I've gained alot of weight and lost alot of muscle over this past 6 weeks, but I really was an athlete" I have no confidence left. I can't wait to prove to myself I still have it. :sad2:

A while back someone had a link to a website that carried athletic apparel for...less than athletically built ladies. Anyone still have that? :confused3 (OK yes, I mean plus-sized.)

Plus, Cam, I think way back in Dec you posted a list of what you were packing to take to WDW. I remember this because Howard was on your list. :rotfl2: When you have time, could you post that for us again? I meant to keep it last time but I didn't. Yes, I am already thinking about what to bring. I know, get a life. But I'm trying hard to keep this trip to Italy off my mind. :rolleyes1

Judy -- I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, and it may be TMI, but let me know and I can always delete it! Our philosophy, as may be apparent from the list, is that anything vital went in carry-ons (all running gear, etc.). Everything else was in checked luggage. It gaves us peace of mind to know we couldn't lose the running gear we'd trained in.

You're welcome, Judy. My good friend Ann (Maherae) reminded me that aleve is not on my pack-list, though taking it is on my to-do list. I always have it in my pocketbook, but if you need any Rx or OTC drugs, I'd definitely put them in your carry-on, as well.

I still think it's funny (but a great compliment) that people thought it was a professionally done basket.

We are on vacation t Mt. Magazine St. Park. They recently built a new lodge and it is beautiful. It has a great workout room and an indoor pool w/ a lap lane (and it really is big enough to do laps in) Today, I got to swim for 20mins, lift upper body and run about 5 mile mix of trail and road on the highest point in ark! I had a pretty good workout day! Tomorrow, Phil is having a guys climbing day (just below the lodge) so i'll be riding and hiking w/ the boy! I'm sure that will be a slight challenge :-)

Sunny, you are still an endurance athlete! Once you get back into the grove you will be fine! I'll send you the program I did for goofy last year. (i think I maxed out at 34 miles on my longest week and it was only a 16 week program. also, i missed some of the shorter long runs for crosstraining/races.) Basically what I'm saying is, you can totally do goofy and probably w/ fewer overall miles than you think or even than you did last yr. for the full.

Mike – Sorry about your health problems. Sounds like you’ve done everything right, and it’s still going to catch up with you. Doesn’t seem fair!

Michael – Congratulations on the weight loss. Great workouts!

Kevin – Hope you have a great vacation!

Sunny – Hope your health problems improve. You’re having such a tough time of it, and it doesn’t seem fair. And you’re STILL a runner!

Dave – LOVE the socks! Thanks again for all your hard work getting those together. And hang in there with the shins. You’re still a runner too, and I’m sure you’ll be there in January!

Minnie – Baby steps…

Jodi – I’m hiring you to plan our next anniversary. We never do anything exciting – I definitely need you to help spice things up!

Krista – Hines definitely keeps the walks interesting! We only take Mystic with us when we’re not really serious about the training – it drives me crazy stopping for potty breaks every 50 feet.

Cam – You have a whole new career as official WISH Board List-Maker! And where has Ann (Maherae) been?

I haven’t done any official training this week – have been in Baltimore for work since Sunday evening. But we spent a couple of hours Sunday night in DC walking the mall, and then spent another couple of hours last night at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore walking, and I’m pretty sure we did at least 2-3 miles both nights, so I’m counting that! I wish I’d thought to take the Garmin when we walked so I’d know for sure just how far we walked.

I’m so excited – a cousin is getting married next month in California, and DD and I are flying out for the wedding and doing 2 days at Disneyland! I’ve only been once before (in my college years) for a few hours, so we’re really psyched about visiting the “other” park!

Hope everyone is healing!

I am so very sad to report that my dad passed away last night. He was in hospice for just over 24 hours but they were the most peaceful hours we all experienced during the last horrific 8 days. It was the hardest day of my life. We are planning a memorial service on Friday at the community church near my parents' home and hopefully that will provide us all some much-needed closure.

I can't thank you ALL enough for the support, prayers, and pd you have so generously given me and my family. It has been a true source of comfort to me and I wish I could give each of you a hug and a personal thank you. Please know that as hard as this whole experience was, it was improved by your support.

I am so sorry Rhonda. Please accept my deepest sympathies. I wish you and your family all the best.

Quick question for all of you - Have any of you shipped stuff ahead of time to the resort? I was thinking about doing this but I don't know how crazy it gets during Marathon week/weekend.

Quick question for all of you - Have any of you shipped stuff ahead of time to the resort? I was thinking about doing this but I don't know how crazy it gets during Marathon week/weekend. Hi Jodi :wave2: I shipped stuff ahead of time to Fort Wilderness when we went for Labor Day weekend. I made up "bags from Mickey" for each of our princesses that had a Pal Mickey, lanyards, pins, etc., in them. It didn't work out quite as well as I would have liked. Again, I'm just one person, but the packages arrived a day late - I was anxious because the girls didn't have their Pal Mickeys, lanyards and stuff for the first day in the parks. I was really wanting the packages to be in the room when we arrived, and it turned out to be a big pain.

Rhonda-I am so sorry for your loss. Prayers for you & your family :grouphug:

Krista-Thanks for asking, VBS is going great. This week is prep week, so not as crazy as next week will be but I am having a blast decorating the church. That's the part I love & tend to go overboard with.

Dave-how did your girls like the Pal Mickey? My boys saw them & want one but I havent decided if its worth it to lug around the parks.

Mel-have fun on your vacation!

Judy-i saw all types of runners wearing all kinds of things (including jeans :sad2: ) but naked & barfoot would be a first for a WDW race I think :rotfl: You are too funny!

Cam-wow that's a complete list, you even have on there which wrist to put your garmin on :rolleyes1

Yesterday was xt going up & down stairs and up the ladder, down the ladder, move the ladder, up the ladder ......... decorating the ceiling. Today is 2 miles. I've been doing great on my WW eating all week. I have even been packing my lunch & taking it up to the church so I dont have an excuse to eat badly.

Dave-how did your girls like the Pal Mickey? My boys saw them & want one but I havent decided if its worth it to lug around the parks. Hi Tiffany - The girls liked the Pal Mickeys. Our 8yo was more into it than our 5yo, but they both liked them. We got them when they were really cheap from the Disney Outlet store. We got last years model for around $15 or something like that. So it wasn't a big investment, and they weren't bad to carry around at all.

Good morning everyone! It is so hot here--it's already over 80 and it's only 8:00. I'm not looking forward to running tonight. I see either a treadmill run or a late night run in my future.

Jodi--Oct. 29 is my parent's anniversary! They are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. That basket looks amazing. I would LOVE to get into the event planning business, but I don't even know where to start. Too bad you don't live closer! :goodvibes

Cam--And I thought I was a list maker! Wow!!! I bet you didn't forget anything.

Melissa--It sounds like you are having a great vacation. Is there a spa there too? That's where I would be--getting a massage and facials every day. :teeth:

Jackie--Hines is a great running partner and I feel safer with him with me, he has a very big bark and right now he is in personal protection training. Not that I live in a dangerous area, we live in a subdivision, but you can never be too careful. I'm not sure what his problem was Tuesday, he never stops and pees while we run, I don't let him potty in other people's yards, so he doesn't even try to get to the grass anymore. I'm wondering if being at the park and smelling lots of other dogs had something to do with it.

Tiff--Have fun decorating the church. Do you have a specific theme?

Another quick post since things are absolultely crazy around here! Why am I always a crazy mess before leaving on a trip?

I made sure to do 3 miles yesterday - W4/R1. (weighing in at WW on weds. nights is a great motivator!) I finished at 37:xx!!! I think my record previous to that was 39:xx. It's funny too, since I was so darn tired the whole time. I even stopped at my house at mile 2 to see how Chad and Dad were doing cutting a chain out of a tree in our backyard. Weird. But good weird!

Oh, and another reason for the people in my neighborhood to think I am a total nutcase - I had my tank on inside out the whole time! When I got home and was stretching in the driveway, I looked down and wondered what this tag thing was on my right hip. DOH!!!

I transferred my records to the new doctor and I have an appt. for a physical in mid-July. I can't wait!

Everyone take care and keep up the training! I am bound & determined to stick to my training for DL. My 12 week plan starts Monday in Ocean City. I can't wait to wog on the Boardwalk in the morning!

Rhonda - may your fathers memory always be a blessing to you and your family.

Judy - I am not surprised barn chores earn so many points! That seems like alot of hard work.

Jody - nice basket - I love Trader Joes

Cam - wow! great list. I love lists! :cool1: You have thought of things I would have forgotten!

Sunny - I am so sorry to hear about pain, I am keeping my fingers crossed that you find a doctor you are comfortable working with.

Dave - Got my socks! Thanks!! They look great.

Minnie - are you the WISHer that had hip pain that turned out to be a bulging disc? I am so glad to hear you are able to start to exercise again, but I can totally see why you are nervous.

Michael - Way to go on the weight loss! That is amazing!

Mike - I am sorry to hear about your health problems, but am very glad to hear that you are very informed. That is a huge step in a positive direction.

As for me, still in pain. I am unable to walk in my regular activities without pain at this time. I still feel some gluteal/hip pain, but after 4 weeks of PT, my low back in now where the pain is focused. The PT is working hard to try to determine if this is sacral or hamstring or both.

A big problem is that in my life, I am dealing with a 4 & 2 year old which hard on the back. Just getting them dressed if they aren't cooperating, I am in trouble. Worse yet, nursing in a hospital is so physical! After a 12 hour shift I am in some major pain.

Oh well, as you can see there is no real change for me. I am out for the CDC in august, but would love to meet up with anyone coming in to town.

I am focused on being healthy for WDW in Jan. I am really hoping to be ready to walk.

I plan on booking All star movies. We stayed at Pop the last few times, but I think my boys would really like ASMo. Has anyone used a AAA room rate in Jan? Any idea when these come out?

Best to all,
Maggie :surfweb:

I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

My father went in for some abdominal surgery last week, and it was expected that he would only be in the hospital for a day or two for recovery. There were some complications, and the surgery took longer than expected. As such, his recovery is taking longer than expected and he is not making progress. Last I spoke with him, he still could not eat or drink anything. He is now going back for more surgery this morning. For me, the worst part is the uncertainty of what will happen next. If we have any pixie dust left (we've been going through it a lot lately) I could use some my way. Thanks.

Monte - we are staying on Mt. Magazine, which is the higest point in arkansas. I've read that it is the highest pt. between the rockys andthe appalacians but i'm not convinced that that is true. It is near Paris arkansas (i'm sure that narrows it down for you ;-)!! ) It is very beautiful, but I have to admit, it still is not the same as your neck of hte woods!

Today, the boy and i are going to use his trail-a-bike to take a ride around the top of the mt. and then to the visitors center so he can engage in his most favorite activity, buying toys!!

small advertisement here:

cafepress is running a sale. I believe it is just for June. They have taken $2 off the T-shirts, so if anyone wants to pick up a WISH Scream Team shirt, they are $13.99 right now. Note: I have no control over the sale, they start it and end it and set the price. WISH scream Team Shirts Here (http://www.cafepress.com/livinglively/1508670) I got a little carried away with the merchandising, so the Scream Team shirt is in the first column, 5 down.

Thanks everyone for your well-WISHes and listening to me go on and on. I can truly say I have so much more understanding and compassion for the elderly and people with physical handicaps. It is so hard to want to do something and not be able to do it, and want to go somewhere and have to wait and rely on others to get you there and feel like a burden on top of it. The pain through the night was awful. I let my percocet run out because it only seems to reduce the pain about 40%, but after a few nights of 100% pain I realize 40% is alot better than none. So I've got my call in (menus, voice mail, wait) again.... hoping for some drugs before the day is out :sad2:

Good morning all.

Spent 50 min on the TM this morning, with 46 of those walking at 3.8 @ 1% and 4 running at 4.5 @ 1%. It felt pretty good to know I could have kept running, but I didn't feel like listening to my knees complain all day so I stopped. I'm going to sneak in a little extra time running every time I train so they don't hardly even notice.

Anyone got a calendar? I quickly counted the weeks this morning but I think August 19th is 20 weeks until the Half. Isn't that when we are supposed to start REALLY training? I haven't consulted my MFM but I'll check tonight.

Melissa - You have fun but be careful on the Bronc! :goodvibes

Rhonda - Oh Rhonda, I'm am so sorry to hear about your dad. :grouphug:

Tiff - Jeans??? All I can say is OUCH!

Paul - :wizard: for you and your father. Let us know how he's doing.

Sunny - I keep hoping for a post from you that says things are much better. I was thinking of you this morning. You are very inspirational. I remember the things you've told me about how far you've come. That means a lot to me. It keeps me going sometimes. :flower3: Now, its your turn to remember how far you've come. And if this is a couple of steps back, well, then so be it. You'll just come out of this raring to go and make up for lost time! I have faith in you!

Thank you so much, Judy :cloud9:

One thing I think I will gain from this experience is an attitude adjustment. I was getting so caught up in speed and distance and more and more... Which is kind of funny because I will never truly have speed! I may seem fast to some people here, but I was/am and never will be a race placer, so what was the obsession for speed anyway? I highly doubt I will ever do mega leg presses again. And I'm actually ok with that. I have a new appeciation for how fragile a spine really is. I want a strong body, but I don't believe I will ever have the need to move 600lbs with my legs so why chance my spine?

One of the hardest things that has come out of this was a statement Dx made (totally innocently). He said to me, "you may just have to accept that you aren't getting any younger, you're 42 and maybe you just can't be doing all this stuff anymore". UGHHHHHHHH Once again I must quote John Locke from Lost:

Don't tell me what I can't do

I do hope to get back to weight-lifting, but just not as a crazed lunatic :rotfl2: And I hope to do something positive with this experience. I have my little website "living lively" that is supposed to encourage people to get active. Now I have a new understanding of how challenging that simple statement is for someone in chronic pain. I hope I can find a way to give tips for people to "live lively" even with chronic pain. I haven't figure it out for myself yet, so I won't be spewing any advice just yet ;)

I now realize I've been taking so much for GRANITE! Yes, Judy, that one's for you :lmao: You gave me a hard time last time I mis-used that word for granted!!!!!!!

OK, so I am diligently making the painful pilgrimage into work each day... Can you guestimate how much work I'm getting done :rotfl: Maybe I better sign off for a bit...

I don't have a lot of time to post because I am "Supposed" to be working. Last night I wanted to do some indoor cross training at home. I found my old Tae Bo video and started doing it. My girls came in to see me and started laughing because I looked funny. My oldest (5 1/2) asked me if I was trying to get strong since I was punching.

Tonight is my run with the group. I think we are increasing distance and that concerns me since the group runs faster than I am used to. I wogged on Tuesday and my ankles ached. Maybe I am just having an off week because my motivation is lacking.

So I am going to sign up for the 5K next week. I will wog it with the hopes of doing better than my last one.

 Hellloooooo everyone...I'm baaaccckkk!!

It has been a loooonnngggg six weeks. I slept through most of it, though! After the Minnie, I had a bruised bone in my foot that had me off of it for 2 weeks. When it didn't get any better, I got put into a walking cast (PM'd Kathy/NYcpa right away!! :listen: ). The day after that I came down with some kidney ailment that now has me going to a specialist, but which caused me to sleep, sleep, and more sleep for three weeks! Fortunately, I'm in a place in my life where I can do that. I would get up, hobble to the computer, go to the Disboard to read what everyone was posting, and go back to bed! Praying for everyone was about the only thing I was good for. My goodness, we are a wounded group right now! But... THIS, TOO, SHALL PASS!! ::yes::

I was finally out of the walking cast and timidly trying to "put the steps in" because we are counting down to DL! This past Saturday I was ready for my LW..I was so excited!! I hustled out of bed at the crack of dawn (I had put all of my gear/clothes in the bathroom so I wouldn't disturb DH), got my fuel belt on and out the door for my 5 minute warm up. Got the Garmin going, then noticed it was locked up. Oh, well, I'll do without..I've got to get this LW in!! I didn't push for time, just took it easy...At about 1 1/2 miles, I started feeling nauseous and then I threw up..four times!!!! Never have I done that. Ahhhh...but then I realized..in my haste to get out the door..I hadn't eaten anything!!! Good grief!

Dave Remember in MfM, they laughed at the way the Penguin ran and told him he wouldn't be a runner.

I just WISH I could say something to each and every one of you. All of you were/are such an inspiration to read. It really was the highlight of my day to see what was going on with all of you..new houses, planning surprises, Hines eating socks (!), bucking broncos, training..whatever!!

I came across this quote from Teddy Roosevelt, "The credit goes to the man (or woman!) who is actually in the arena...who strives valiantly...and who, at the worst, if he fails at least fails while daring greatly, so that his/her place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat."

I think can join a lot of WISH team subgroups ;)

Please sign me up for the "Being Injured is Driving Me  " group. I did manage to keep the tape on my foot for almost as long as I was supposed to, but not being able to train is freakin' me out. I'm thinking I'd rather be running hurt than sitting around healing. I've been doing some research online on PF so as to thoroughly annoy the podiatrist with the articles I've found...and the alternatives to the $450 orthotics. The foot is better and worse...as long as I take the ibuprofen three times a day, it's better...when it starts to wear off, the pain is worse than before :confused3 I see the pod tomorrow, so we'll see what he has to say...probably something along the lines of how PAs make horrible patients :teeth:

I'd also like to join the October anniversary club...mine's the 31st and will be 9 years this year

Lots of stuff going on at work lately. We used to share space with an allergist who moved out this week. I've taken over her office and have a black desk and purple chair (to match my ASICS ;) ) With those colors, the best decorating scheme I could come up with was....Disney villains. But I didn't find any posters I liked on ebay, so I ordered a Sorceror of the Seas Mickey poster and a Main Street Electrical Parade poster (I really miss that parade)! I'll take a picture to show y'all as soon as I get it together!

Last I spoke with him, he still could not eat or drink anything. He is now going back for more surgery this morning. For me, the worst part is the uncertainty of what will happen next. If we have any pixie dust left (we've been going through it a lot lately) I could use some my way. Thanks.

PaulPaul More PD :wizard: :wizard: for your father. I hope he recovers from his latest surgery and starts back to the road to health. I wish you all the best in this difficult time.

Rhonda - I am so sorry for your loss, please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Paul - Sending as much pixiedust: as I can your direction for your father, and his speedy recovery.

I haven't been able to post much lately, but did want to stop in and give an update. I have been running 3 miles on Mon, Wed, and Fri. Then I'm doing my long run on Saturday. So far I am up to 5 miles, but I have a 6 miler scheduled for tomorrow. I just tried those Jeely Belly Sports Beans, they taste pretty darn good. I took them before my 3 miler this morning since I don't eat breakfast, and I seriously didn't feel that I ran out of energy like I usually do. I am going to try them again with my long run tomorrow though. Well, gotta run. I'll try to check back in tomorrow and let you guys know how the 6 miler went and check on everyone else's runs.

Take Care,
Dana

"O" I forgot to mention.I am officially registered for the Disney Marathon!!! Did the registration on Wednesday. DH made me do it saying that it would keep me from backing out!!

I did manage to keep the tape on my foot for almost as long as I was supposed to, but not being able to train is freakin' me out. I'm thinking I'd rather be running hurt than sitting around healing.

Don't give into the temptation, Mel!!!! I know exactly how you feel. So many times I've been at the Y and thought "I'm already in so much pain, what does it matter" and nearly done the bad thing. But we know long term health is so much more important than short term "wanna run NOW" syndrome! Keep the faith :)

Ann :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for you, too!

Jen-- When I do TaeBo my 6yo makes a game of running under my leg when its at the high point of a kick. He gets hunched down, all ready and then lunges at the right time. Of course I don't condone such behavior, but I'm so busy trying to keep up I can't take the time to stop him! My 16yo strongly admonishes me to make sure the curtains are closed! :rotfl2: She's afraid her friends might drive by and see her mom looking like a lunatic :rotfl:

MelR-- looking forward to the pics :thumbsup2

OK, I did a 3 mile walk last night in a decent pace. I had a total brain failure and must have reverted back to my dumb teen days. Got this new pair of sandals that are super comfy. So, I decided to walk in those. (My feet just love every second they have in sandals in teh summer) Well, note to everyone. AN hour in the house is not enough to break in sandals for a 3 mile walk. I detroyed my feet and coudl just kick myself!!! Hoping that a rest day today will help them recover for my Saturday run, but I did a pretty good job on them. WIll someody please come knock some sense into me?

This is Judith Anne today....ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........I had three hours of sleep last night. My mare was colicky and I had to have the vet come at 8:30pm, and then I had to check on her every two hours. This morning she is fine, but I really miss my beauty sleep.

However, I DID train! :thumbsup2 45 min @ 3.8 @ 1% then 4 min running @ 4.5 @ 1%. Quite frankly, I'm amazed I did it. I would have much rather just gone back to sleep.

Sunny - Thanks for the chuckle this morning..."granite". I hope you are feeling better today. :goodvibes

Carrie - I agree with you about "that date" still giving me chills too. OK I have my calendar marked to start really training and until then I will continue to press on. :thumbsup2

Minnie - Start with baby steps! I am a big fan of starting off slooooow. I think - depending on the weather - that Sunday I am going to my first trail ride since my knee surgery. I can't believe I am nervous about this. I have been riding since I was 5! :confused3

Mel - How'd the ride on the Bronc go with the boy yesterday? I trust she behaved.... :teeth:

Anne - YAY! I'm so happy to see you here! Oh my goodness what you have been thru! You forgot to eat? What's that mean? I don't understand. Ha ha ha! :rotfl: I don't think I ever forgot to eat in my life! Ohhh I really like that quote!

Mel - Oh no! Ouch! Maybe it just needs time to heal...or heel....ha ha ha! :lmao: Hey, I only had three hours of sleep. That's the best I could do. A pathetic attempt to cheer you up, I know. I LOVE your decorating idea! Villains! :maleficen Cool! And purple and black. Excellent choices!

Paul - How's your dad today? :wizard:

Dana - YAY! :cheer2: I'll add you to the list!

Carrie - Sounds like somebody needs a good foot massage and pampering.... :rolleyes1

Dave - You might have said somewhere before but I keep having Senior Moments, but are you training mostly on pavement or do you use the TM, or both? I don't know why I was thinking about this today but I was wondering if doing some training on a TM might be easier on your shins. Just a thought.... :confused3

OK, this is Judith Anne pretending to work, but actually napping..... :surfweb:

Oh Carrie!!! :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: Here's some PD :wizard: :wizard: for your torn up sandle feet!

Judy Good for you! :thumbsup2 I'm really impressed at your walking on 3 hours of sleep. That's dedication! Good question about the pavement vs. treadmill. In fact, I had been doing all of my running on the roads, and that's when my shins started bothering me. When I was on the treadmill from Jan--> March I was fine. Of course, I was also doing less mileage and lower speeds too. I told myself I'm going to keep my water running up until the 4th of July. That will give me a solid 4 week break since the 5k where the shin pain really ramped up. When I start running outside again, I'm going to start on the track. Nice, cushy, surface...

On my last trip I brought home two pictures one for my house and the other for my Mickey office at work. They all think I'm a little :goofy: with my love of ::MickeyMo though.

Oh Carrie! You sound like my DH. He sometimes stops at the forest preserve on his way home from work to walk. One day he stopped, then realized that he didn't have his shoes in the car. So what did he do?? He walked 6 miles in his steel toed shoes. And then he wondered why his feet hurt :confused3 Gosh, what do you think?? I hope that your feet make a quick recovery!!

Thanks for the sympathy everyone. I don't deserve it, though.

Judy - I was hoping to squeeze in a pedicure this weekend, but my feet are so bad that even a massage or a soak in the ped tub doesn't sound good. :sad2:

Pat - I at least knew better than to complain. Then again, I was too proud to stop when they hurt too.

Anyone have an answer for Minnie? When I ordered my current foot-wreckers ;) , I also ordred some Ecco sandals that looked very comfy for park walking from SIerra. Well, they arrived as Men's loafers adn SIerra sold out of my size in teh meantime. :guilty:

o.k. I'm getting real close to signing up for the full  ~this is what I think I am

Cam-are you just aiming for a 15 min pace so you can finish comfortably? Where are you staying? What are we thinking?! How are you incorporating the DL 1/2 into the WDW full training? Taking a week off & then hop back into the appropriate week? Will we survive? Will we want to take turns slapping each other en route for signing up for this in the first place ? Are you going to train by yourself since Howard runs? Thats a long way for me to go during training without running my mouth. AGH, so much going thru my mind right now.

Welcome Sonya! This is a great group with loads of support & we cant wait to learn more about you :welcome:

Dana-congrats on signing up for the full & yes, those jelly beans are very good. Not sure if they help me or not but I sure dont mind eating them either way.

Paul- :wizard:

Mel- now I'm sure as a PA you know better than to train when injured, right? I know how frustrating it is but we dont want you permanently out of the game now do we.....

Colleen-Are you bringing your family in Jan? I know your DH wasn't wanting to come again but you need them to see how "Goofy" you are , right. I think if I need my family to come. This is too big a deal for me (and probably a once in a lifetime thing) for them not to be a part of.

If you did the Minnie and are doing DL...just wanted to send out this reminder. For DL corral placement you can use the Minnie race results print out OR a copy of your certificate. I know it says if you think you'll do a sub 2:15 :rotfl2: you are REQUIRED to submit one, but you can still submit the Minnie results for a better placement, right? I know when I registered, I put 3:30, and I may take that long! But with my Minnie results, I'll get that edge on the sweepers! Here's the address:

Sonya :welcome: Make sure you check out some of the running sites on the first page of this thread. They are a real help, as is everyone here! :thumbsup2
Dave Went back to the podiatrist yesterday. He told me to stick with the treadmill instead of the streets until I heal as there is more give on the TM. So, that's a good plan you have going. See? even on 3 hours of sleep Dr. Judy can steer you in the right direction! :goodvibes
Helen :rolleyes1 hope you're practicing! Every time a song from "Grease" comes on I crack up thinking of you at DL!! :rotfl:

Hi Tiff, no my family won't be there in January. I will be going solo this year. I don't blame you wanting your family there for your first marathon. It was really great seeing my family along the course.

Good luck with your decision. For what it's worth, I did all my training runs solo, well with my MP3 player. It really helped me get through those 16, 18 and 20 mile runs.

Oh and one more thing... you CAN do this! :cheer2:

Sunny - you must stay up as late as we do!

Friday was my b/day (36yo) Phil got me a pink single speed bike frame which he gave to me early. we came home from vacation today and i spent the day finishing building it up. That was my first bike to build. I am taking it by the bike shop tomorrow to have them tighten a few things up that i can't do myself and i still have some issues w/ the chainline, but overall, i'm pretty proud of it. (Lynn, it is the bianchi p.u.s.s, w/ a surly fork.) it looks pretty sweet. When I get our vacation pics up I'll post one of the bike too!

Dave - I got the socks today. They are awesome! I'll wear them alot this summer. I'm excited about trying the sockguy stuff out anyway. I may use a pair in one of my adventure races b/c it would make me think of you guys (hopefully that won't cause another bike crash!)

Judy - The bronc treated me and the boy just fine. She did have some shifting issues due to the weight of pulling the boy and i took her in for some lovin'. Hopefully she'll come back better than new.

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

No outdoor running for me yet - did 30 min of deep water running yesterday. Saw my orthopaedist and PT this week. Orthopod still does not think I have a stress fracture due to the fact I can hop up and down on my heel with no pain. He upped the dose of ibuprofen I've been taken - I'm now taking 4-200mg pills (800mg) 3x/day. I do the ice massage 2-3x/day too. I told my PT my plan to not run at all until after the 4th of July - just do the aqua running. He thought that was a good plan, then we did some more exercises and stim and ice. I'm going to try to do a long aqua run today of 60 min.

Mel - I forgot to reply to you. Yes, keep yourself taped up and off your feet. Let yourself heal do you can train properly for the marathon. You need to sit here on injured reserve with me. I already decided not to enter the Empire State Games Master's 10k in order to heal properly.

:welcome: Sonya - Good to have you here. This group is really wonderful and is the main reason I've kept up with my training since January. Congrats on signing up for the WDW Full. :thumbsup2 Hope to see you there in January. Want any of the official team socks? ;)

Tiffany - Good luck in making your decision to sign up for the full. I'll be right there to cheer you on when you sign up. About socks for kids...The kids liked them too & wanted to know if I could order them some in kids sizes :) Unfortunately, we didn't order any kids sizes (not sure if SockGuy even has them), but if we ordered a different size now we'd have to order another 120 pairs. My DD8 princess: has worn the s/m socks from SockGuy. They're a little big on her, but she doesn't seem to mind. Let me know if you want to try some of the s/m for the kids.

Hi Anne :wave2: Good to hear from you. You keep on keepin' on on the treadmill. Right now even walking irritates my shin so I need to stick with the pool before I could even do the treadmill.

Hi Christa :wave2: I forgot you were on HHI. I wondered where you were. I think of you when I'm popping my Motrin. Didn't you make the comment that you never take anything for your pain - that you actually like that feeling? Yeah, uuuum, I'm not going that route. Oh BTW, that would be so COOOOOL if you can do the WDW Full! :cool1: I hope it works out for you to be there! I just checked the website - Goofy is full, Full Marathon is 55% capacity - just sign up now!

Hi Jodi :wave2: Your baskets look great. Keep on chugging away on the treadmill. Do you run exclusively on the treadmill? I thought you had an outside route too.

Sunny - Just sending some PD :wizard: :wizard: your way for your back. :tinker: :tinker: I think your back deserves the full Tink treatment. Hang in there you athlete you. See, everyone here still believes you're an athlete!

:bday: MelR :cake: party: Cool b-day present. Have fun with your new bike. Now I'll reveal my ignorance. Will you ride the single speed bike to race, or is that a ride around town bike with the boy? Glad you like the socks. I wore mine for the first time yesterday. I liked seeing them when I was at the PT office. It made me remember why I'm trying to stick with this and work through this shin pain.

Paul – How’s your dad?

Rhonda – Hope everyone in the family is hanging in there. More :grouphug: for everyone! This is the tough time.

Dana – Congratulations on signing up!

Minnie – I have really narrow feet too. I’ve never worn anything but running/walking shoes in the park. I don’t dare try sandals, no matter how comfy they are in the real world.

Carrie – I can only imagine how bad your feet feel. I wore my favorite really-broken-in sandals to walk the mall in DC last weekend and was still pretty unhappy when we got back to the car. New ones would have killed me.

Sonya – Welcome! You really dive right in there!

Pat – I can’t believe DH wore steel-toed shoes!

Viking – Where are you???? Have you been swallowed up by World Cup?

I just got back from a very satisfying 3.75 mile run. Stretched really good afterward, and decided to ice the shins just to be safe (forgot to do that until I read Dave’s post – thanks, Dave!) The first 3 miles were 11:41, 11:34, and 12:17, the last ¾ mile took 13:45! Needless to say, I died at the end of 3 miles. But it was still the best time I’ve ever run, even in either of my whole 2 5Ks, so I’m feeling improvement. DH is scouring the web trying to find another race for me to run, but I’m not feeling a real need to race right now. My goal is to arrive at my cousin’s wedding on July 23 looking fitter and lighter than I have since DD was born 15 years ago! I felt really good at the end of 3.75 and could have gone more, but remembered the last time I decided to do more miles than I'm used to and decided to stop. (That's when I hurt my shins and couldn't run for 2 months...) I deliberately chose the park with the 1/2 mile loop so I could increase slightly but not too much. I keep having to remind myself that I'm not training for the half or full like everyone else here so I don't need to do the same miles! Next year...

Have a great weekend!

Jackie

Ran the Fishers Freedom Festival 5k this morning.* It starts at 8:00 so it is always hot by the time we get going, making it much harder.* It wasn’t as crowded as the last time.** But this is more a fun run, so always lots of*kids, strollers & dogs. They finally started at 8:09.

<side note: My Dad was my Track coach in High School. However, I always hated running, but did it for him. My Senior year, I asked
him if he would be mad at me if I dropped out. Yep, I hated it that much. He said, no because he really wanted me to do what made me happy. I didn’t run another step for about 20 years. So when I started up again a few years ago, he got a big chuckle when I told him I had signed up for my first 5k. 3 half marathons and many miles later, we still laugh about me becoming a runner now that my mind is willing & my body isn’t. But no matter if it’s a race or just putting in the miles, I always hear him in my head coaching me along.>

With that background, this is how my run this morning went:*Mile 1* average 11:23* Coach was in my head telling me to go out easy.* Save a little, you got more than a mile to run. Mile 2* average 10:55 Coach told me I ran that one too fast.* But it was under the shade and I got in a groove.* It kind of flew by before I knew it. Mile 3* average 11:29 * Yep, heat caught up with me.* Coach had to keep telling me that the course doesn't get any shorter if you stop.* You still have to finish & they don't move it to you - you have to go get it. Last .10** average 8:32 * Coach reminded me not to kick to early.* But had enough energy left to really "SPRINT" over the finish.* Overall 34:40 minutes / average 11:09* Wow, the old girl is getting faster. I wish I could keep that pace for my distance runs.* Keep moving forward & have a great weekend!

Hi everyone!

Gee, sorry I've been MIA this week. Wanted to stop in and say HI :wave2: .

Rhonda: Still thinking about you. :grouphug: Hope you are doing okay.

Paul: How is your father? Thinking of you too!!! :grouphug:

Dave: Glad the water running is going well. So sorry to hear about all the pain you've been in. Hang in there...still PLENTY of time before marathon training officially starts!!!! Don't give up on the dream!!!!! :goodvibes

Dana: Awesome 6 mile run! You were cookin' :moped: speedy!

Jackie: GREAT run today!!! Wow! So proud of you :).

So last night was the Summer Solstice 5 Mile Trail Race. Wow....what an amazing experience. Truly one of the most physically exhausting and difficult things I've EVER done (at least until the marathon LOL). I ran with a group of 8 women (woo hoo for girl power). Many of them said it was harder than childbirth :rotfl: . Have to say that I wouldn't go quite that far....but it was pretty darn hard. Trail racing is a grueling endeavor. I know Mel can attest to this...but what a learning experience for me! Unlike road racing, all your concentration needs to be on the trail....there are logs, rocks, branches, streams, snakes (eek)...you name it. So the things that we normally concentrate on during a run (breathing, form and pace) take a backseat to survival LOL. Lots and lots of people fell....several came across the finish line bleeding!! Most of us finished muddy and dirty! Fortunately I didn't get injured nor did I fall....however there were moments when we were running down steep mountain biking trails that were covered in stones and wet leaves...when I thought that all it would take is one wrong step and I'd be done for!!! When your legs already feel like jello....you don't trust yourself as much either. We had to scramble up stones and grab trees to help pull us up the steeper embankments. It was honestly challenging...at times painful....and yet one of the most remarkable things I've done. I didn't quite hit my goal of finishing under 50 minutes...but I'm still proud to say that I finished the race in 50:56 which is just a bit over a 10 mpm. Would I do it again? You betcha....but I think I'll recover a little bit from this one first :teeth: . In the fall there is an 8 mile trail race in the same state park. I've heard that one is brutal....so yeah...I'll probably do it!!!

Earlier in the week I took off a few days due to some minor foot pain. Seems it's feeling much better...started tying my sneakers differently and that relieved a lot of the pressure I was feeling! I ran 6 miles on Sat, 4 miles on Tues and did KBX on Mon. So overall...not a bad week of exercise...should have done a bit more XT. But with the foot...wasn't sure that lots of KBX made a bunch of sense until it felt better! Next week I should be back on track. Think I'll do a nice and easy run tomorrow to loosen the legs up from the race yesterday. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Oh Dave, normal running pain is one thing, but really being hurt PAIN is so another. I really don't take pain meds though....I had a bad reaction once to them and I do have very high pain tolerance (sp? :confused3 ). I'm into the natural stuff...I know, weird! And thanks for the WDW info. I really need to sign up.

Melissa - So cool on your bike! Pink is so AWESOME! :Pinkbounc

Jodi - cool basket! I understand missing things b/c of work! It is a bummer! :guilty:
