View Full Version : Pregnant at WDW- how far along were you?

We are hoping to be pregnant with our third child soon, so I would be pregnant during our first family trip to WDW.. this would put me at about 30 weeks at our time of travel (if we go in January). Is that crazy? :confused3
We are trying to decide between this fall or January, but right now we're leaning towards January because of DH's work schedule among other things.
This will be our third and I've had great pregnancies with our first and second, but I'm wondering if that might be too far along to vacation comfortably.
I read some of the old threads on being pregnant at WDW, but a lot of the moms were 4-5 months.
Will I still be able to do all of the kiddie rides? I have this fear of not being able to take dd on Dumbo or other rides I know she would love because the bar won't lock in over my belly or something

i went 7.5 months pregnant, had a blast and it was my first pregnancy. i followed ALL the signs, even if other people had said it's not a big deal. i didn't want to kick myself later. Just look at all the signs and you will be good. i did not ride Dumbo, didn't feel comfortable.
Have fun!!!

I went at 7 months and had a great time! Even rode the Safari which they don't recommend. But no problems. The weather was great :sunny: when we went. I took it easy--lots of breaks and people watching on the benches. Nap in the afternoon, pool time in the evening, soaking the feet and ankles in the hot tub by the pool. We spent more time at the resort on that trip than any other trip prior. It was wonderful!
My vote is definitely go if you have an easy pregnancy with no complications during your first and second trimesters.

I went last month at 17 weeks in my 3rd pregnancy. I also had good pregnancies with my first 2. I had a great time but I'll be honest and tell you it was harder on my than I thought it would be. Mainly b/c of the heat. Of course this 3rd pregnancy is harder on me in general than the first 2 were! We had a trip planned for September when I would be about 32/33 weeks. We are 99.9% sure we are going to cancel that. After having a harder time than I anticipated in May (temps were usually highs of 94/95) I can't imagine going that far along in the heat of September. January would be much easier. We are now leaning towards travelling in January and bringing baby along for his or her first trip. :)
I would definitely vote for January over the fall for weather alone, even if it means you are a little further along! As for safety, talk to your doctor and follow their advice. Mine was fine with me riding most rides at 17 weeks since baby was so small and well protected but when we discussed if I could go at all at 32/33 weeks (this pregnancy was a surprise and the trip was already planned) she said a lot of things would be out on that trip b/c baby would NOT be small by then and would not be as well protected. My tummy would possibly interfere with the restraint bar/belt/harness at that point so I would need to avoid anything that the restraint could not work as intended. Your doctor is always the best source of info for stuff like that. :)
Good luck!!!! :)

We live in FL and have annual passes, so we've gone at all stages of my pregnancies. The latest being 8 1/2 months, which was fun, but we rented a wheelchair because walking so much was very uncomfortable.
In the beginning, the morning sickness got the better of me with my 3rd pregnancy, but it didn't stop me from going or having a great time.
Just take a slower pace and drink your water!
I went at about 12 weeks and it was great. Personally, I wouldn't go anywhere far from home at 30 weeks, but then, Paul was born by emergency c-section at 26 weeks - so maybe I'm not the best person to ask.

I was 4mo when we did our WDW and DCL. It was great to be able to eat as much as I wanted and not have to suck my belly in! :thumbsup2
But...to go along with what GEM said, I had to go on bedrest at 6 months and delivered at 7months!!! Had no issues up until that point, so I felt great on vacation.
I have my own physical issues now so if i were to get pregnant again I'd stay put.

Since DH and I ahve APs we go regulalry, which means I ahve gone a few times while pregnant and soion thereafter. I have gone at 1 month, 2 months pregnant (2x), 5.5 months, and will be there at almost 8 months. Plus I ave been there a week and a half AFTER having the baby. The only issue that I ahve had while pg was morning sickness. Otherwise you just go at your own speed, rest when needed, and eat all that you want without feeling self concious :thumbsup2. For me one of the downsides is the cross country flight but it's not too bad if you can get up and walk occassionally.
Traveling with an infant isn't too bad either. From my experience they sleep the majority of the time so it's EASY! Plus Disney has wonderful baby care centers. My suggestion is go when you feel like it. If you really want to go while PG then go, I ahve and am honestly doing it again.

WOW. I am 30 weeks exactly today, in fact, and I can't imaging going to WDW!!! I LOVE it so much, but boy, I could never do it. Then again, my family can't afford to go often - every 2 years or so, so I would feel in my case I "wasted" at trip. Good luck with your decision! :)

I was 7 months along with my second child (another daughter) this past January. I went on everything my then 2 year old daughter was tall enough to go on (with the exception of Soarin' which she wasn't tall enough for, but I rode). Other than morning sickness -- which lasted my entire pregnancy -- and a decreased appetite because of it (DH loved that $$$!) we had a great time and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again! But each woman/pregnancy is different so you're the only one who knows how it'll be for you.

We went in April when I was 24 weeks with #3. That was a great time to go as I wasn't too big or uncomfortable yet. Now I am 31 weeks and I would not be happy if we were there now. I am in the 'can't take a deep breath' and constant heartburn phase. Also feeling much more tired than I was. I think 27 weeks would have been the upper limit for me!
This pregnancy has been as uneventful as my last two. I have easy pregnancies and tend to go about a week late for deliveries. Still, feeling as well as I do, I'm glad we went sooner rather than later!

I was sick as a dog through both of my pregnancies but went during my secong pg when I was about 31 weeks. I had a 2-year-old at the time as well. That was what made it the hardest. She was at an exhausting age, so I was extra tired from that. But it was really great fun! And when we look back at the pictures now, I always tell my younger daughter that it was technically her first trip to Disney. I seemed really huge at the time now that I look back. LOL! I also rode the safari even though the sign says not to. The guide told me that it would be the same as a car on a bumpy road, and he was right. Lots of water and some planned rest time are the keys to happiness in the Kingdom. :thumbsup2

I was 30 weeks when we went in October. We had a good time, but I was worried being so far along and not being close to my doctor. (I am a worrywart by nature and it was my first baby). I did breathe a sigh of relief when we got home safely without any issues. Do what feels right for you. I personally am not going to waste another trip in the future by going while pregnant. While we did many things we wouldn't normally do, I love all of the thrill rides and missed those. Oh well... we have a lot of pictures of baby's first trip to WDW :teeth:.
PS: trust me, your belly will fit on all of the rides. I had the biggest belly ever (ie: people asking me at 30 weeks if I was going to have the baby any day) and I rode all of the fantasyland rides!

Let's see, I went in Feb when I was pregnant with DD so I guess I was around 6 months. No problems. I didn't go on Dumbo, but I was fine on Aladdin and every other ride I went on. The fumes from the speedway made me a little green but I solved that by eating a snack. I think the only precaution I took was to make sure I stretched and kept my legs elevated during the long ride down to Orlando. Rest when your body needs it and keep hydrated. I took naps when DS did - he was 2 1/2 at the time. I'd do it again.

We went to DL last month when I was 24 weeks and I had a great time. We also did WDW at 5 and 17 weeks (and 20 weeks with my first child) and the 24 week trip was by far the best of the 4. The 1st 2 trips this pregnancy I had horrible morning sickness so that was what made them not so fun. And the trip with my 1st pregnancy, well, that was just a different pregnancy and I had intense swelling that started just before the trip so I was really swollen and uncomfortable by the end of every night (and also still had the morning sickness). But 24 weeks I had just gotten over the morning sickness about 2 weeks prior, I have no swelling, wasn't tired, so overall it was great. I'm just about 30 weeks now and I'd still be fine except that I do get tired more easily than I did 6 weeks ago, but not a huge deal I guess.

I went at 25 weeks and felt fine. I paced myself and dranks lots of water. 30 weeks is probably pushing it to the last possible comfortable time though! I started to be miserable at 8 months or so. Also, keep in mind, traveling with little ones is exhausting itself. I remember while pushing the double stroller asking DH if all the parks were built uphill!!

I traveled from Indiana to WDW at 34-35wks pg with our 3rd. I had the permission from my OB, with the usual advice like get out and walk every couple of hours since we were driving, drink lots of water, etc. I did just fine, didn't ride anything that had a caution about pg, and I still had lots of fun. And I walked the entire time, although I did see several pg ladies in wheelchairs. BTW, I don't go into labor on my own, so I wasn't worried about labor. If your OB isn't worried about the timing...I say go for it, you shouldn't have extremely warm weather in Jan. Have a great time.

We went last March, and I was about 18 weeks. It was great! I had been suffering from terrible headaches up until we arrived, but then the Magic of Disney somehow cleared those up for me! I rode almost everything (despite the warnings  ) and I was fine.
We had planned another trip for June for Mr. B's birthday, but my OB advised against it. She doesn't want her patients to travel past 26 weeks "just in case". So... I ended up staying home and DH took Mr. B for a long weekend. I felt like I would have been fine going, but decided to listen to my doc's advice and stay. I know every doctor is different, so yours may not have a problem with that time frame... just something to check with him/her.

With my first, I went in AUGUST and I was 30 weeks. It was HORRIBLE!!!!! Well, I was in WDW, so it wasn't THAT bad. But it had to be THE HOTTEST AND MISERABLE week of my life! I had such bad sciatica that I had to rent a wheelchair a couple of days. It was ROUGH!!! But like I said, it was AUGUST!!! And I am SURE the weather had a lot to do with my misery...and my sciatica!
With my second, I went at about 14-15 weeks and it was AWESOME!!!!!!! I went on everything I could possibly go on!!! Now keep in mind, this trip was in DECEMBER! So it was MUCH cooler and we took it at a much slower pace!
So what's my opinion? ONLY YOU KNOW!!! I say to GO FOR IT! Book the trip and as it gets closer, see how you are feeling. If a month before you don't think you can do it, maybe you can reschedule you're trip.
But for now, go for it! It is January after all, the weather won't be that bad! Just BE SURE to TAKE YOUR TIME!!!!!!!!! And STAY HYDRATED!!!!!

We had planned a trip for December of 2006 back when I was pg with my first (she was born in December 2002). So this trip has been very looked forward to!
Dh and I were done having kids (had second, son, in Feb of 2005), so we didn't even think I would be pg when we go!
Well, God had other plans for us in the baby department! :lol I am only 8 weeks right now, but I'll be 32 weeks going to WDW and 33 coming home . . .
I'm still going. I'm a bit worried about dehydration, but I do love water and drink it all the time, so I should be good.
I'm actually looking forward to a laid-back vacation. I have an excuse to turn down Pleasure Island now (Not my cup of tea) and I have an excuse to leave the parks early and nap every afternoon with my kids. :) I also have an excuse to eat like a pig!!! I was on Weight Watchers and had lost 30 lbs when I found out that I was pg (I was 2 lbs away from my goal!)! I'm so glad that I'll be able to go to WDW and just eat anything I want!!!!! The best part of any vacation, to me, is the food. :)
I say, go for it.

I went in Dec at about 11 weeks. I was really battling morning sickness so had to take it really easy. I didn't eat a lot of the sweets and treats I usually love but was ok. I also usually packed it in early at night and let DH run free. He even went to PI twice without me. But really it was fine I was happy to sleep.
I was at DL at 24w and felt awesome. No problem with sickness at that point, maybe just a little fatigued.
Now knowing how this pregnancy has been I think I could have done WDW up to about 28-30w then my back really started getting sore and I don't think I would have enjoyed myself as much.

Thank you so much for all of your responses!
I think my midwife would say it's fine as long as I rest and stay hydrated.
One silly question, though- why did some of you not ride Dumbo? Should I stay away from it? I just thought I'd be able to do all of the children's rides.. I know ds and dd will want to go on it, so DH and I will probably have to each take one..

We are purposely putting of #3 until after our Disney trip in Aug. Our last trip to WDW I was 14 wks along with #1 & it was fine. I was just bummed I couldn't ride ToT & the mountains. I got fast passes while the others rode the dangerous rides. I did take an afternoon nap each day. Now I have DD2 & DS 4.5 & I know I didn't want to do it pregnant. Some friends think I'm crazy planning pregnancies around WDW, but I'm sure DISers will understand. Hey, maybe we'll bring home our own "little souveiner"

I went to WDW in July while pregnant with my first; I was 7 months along during the trip. What made it extra special was that my best girlfriend from college was preggers at the same time (our kids are 10 days apart) and we went together, without the daddies! It was so fun waddling around at our own pace. We saw lots of shows, met some princesses and rode the quiet rides.
The best day had to have been spent at Typhoon Lagoon. We just did our best "beached whale" impressions and floated along the lazy river for hours. There was one cute guest who giggled at us and said that we had to be the sexiest women on the beach! It was really cute - and made us feel great about wearing our expanding swimsuits in public.

Hi. I'm in the beginning stages of planning our trip for December. (8th -18th)We have three DD's, and are going to try for our last in May/June/July. (We have a Summer, Fall, and Winter baby, and thought a Spring would complete our family) If all goes well, I will be 6/7 months along. I've been to WDW before while pregnant and had a great time. Just take a lot of breaks, drink tons(use the restroom tons!) and enjoy this special time of life. Janice

i went in Sept 05 when I was 6 months pregnant. It was way to hot for me I was huge! I think it is fine if you are having a good pregnancy. I am not a good baby oven so for me it was hard. Oh yeah I went into labor on the flight
home and all DH did was lean over me to take pictures of the ground. Not to scare you just thought I would share my fun! I would go back pregnant as long as I was doing okay and it was not so hot!

HI there, i have never been to disney pregnant but i probably would have done it...BUT just make sure if you book a trip you purchase trip insurance just in case...i say this because you never know...i did have trouble with my pregnancies with some spotting, but my first 2 were born full term and healthy and i was never any real bed rest...my last child, i had a huge bleed early, at 10 weeks, but all was fine...at 20 weeks we were told she had something wrong with her intestines and at 33 weeks she was born by an emergency induction...i know the odds of something "bad" happening are very slim, at least this way you could cancel and then reschedule afterwards...BTW, my daughter is completely healthy now, she underwent 3 major surgeries in her first 4 weeks of life to repair all her problems., she is our little miracle(she is 11 now)...i always felt great pregnant though, and with my doctors blessing i probably would have travelled....have fun and good luck on number 3...i miss having babies, mine are so big now
WDW-Dec 04-first disney experience for my DH, DD, DS, DD and first time at WDW for us all
DL-MAY 06-first time at DL for DH and kids , and my 9th(but the first 8 were all by the time i was about 13) so it was all new to me

Hi, we were at Disney on July 4th and I had my daughter August 15th. It was so hot, and I didn't drink enough water. I did experience some contractions, but this was my third... I must have looked ready to deliver, because Disney offered a mini van ride out to our car. They actually asked me if I needed EMS. LOL.
There are great hospitals in the area, if anything should happen. I would go and enjoy myself. Just take it easy and drink enough water. Elisa

I went twice during my pregnancy - at 8 weeksin Feb and at 6.5/7 mos in June! I was very tired during the Feb trip but in June I had more energy than DH!!! I was go go go and it was HOT! I just drank lots of water, went into the A/C whenever possible and sat and rested when I needed it - also treated myself to ice cream! :) I went on safari which they do not recommend but had no trouble. I also went baby shopping!!! :yay:

hi all, i hope this is an easy one and i'm being silly.
i'm trying to get pregnant (my dr is going to put me on clomid) and i'm going to WDW in 2 and 1/2 months. The way I figure it, the furthest along I could be is 8 weeks when I'm there.
What are my restrictions? I'm just want to be prepared. Has anyone been 4 to 8 weeks in WDW?

mlm, best wishes! I hope God will bless you in His time. Just wanted to say that there are a lot of ride restrictions if you do get pregnant, so at least if you don't you won't have to worry about it. Also, my m/s  kicked in right before 6 weeks and I would be really sad if I had a WDW planned during that time. Every woman is different though.

I was there is April a few more weeks pregnant. I was having HORRIBLE morning sickness so that was a bummer. I do not do thrill rides so the only think I missed was Barnstormer with me DD 2 1/2 (DH went with her). Is was not horrible, but I certainly wish I could have eaten some of the foods more or at least not thrown them up :) I was there 2 days pregnant too of course we didn't find this out til after LOL

I was about 12-13 weeks pregnant. The flight down was the worst for me, it was so early and we were so excited that we were going to WDW again that I didnt really sleep. And once we got to the resort I was so hungry I ate, then went to sleep and then I woke up with the worst morning sickness ever, just because I was so over tired. ( This also happened when I was over tired coming home and during labour too) Let's just say I will never eat Chicken Ceasar Salad again
I did need a nap everyday around 1:30 DH would see me as he said " run out of gas".
but all in all we had a great time and I would go again pregnant, just perhaps in the second trimester :)

1st child I was 32 weeks. It was a last min trip planned ( to cheer me up) and a short one (just 3 nights.) We did fly. It was fine.
I was 8 weeks when I went pregnant with my 2nd child. I was pretty sick most of the time at home, but felt great there. The trip was planned before I was pregnant.
We also took a plane trip to Disney Vero Beach Resort at 26 weeks. This was a better time to go then 32 weeks. I know 32 weeks was pushing it (DD was born at 40 weeks.)
The time of year is almost more important to be then how far along. Too hot or rainy (summer months) and it would be harder. I recommend winter and early spring, low crowd time if possible.
There are many rides you can still do. There will be many other pregnant women there too. :thumbsup2
Good luck and congrats.

I went in September of 2003 at 32 weeks. It was extremely HOT....but I just drank lots of water and rested a lot. It was one of our most enjoyable trips AND it got me adjusted to going at a more reasonable speed once DD was here and we took her. If you have your doctor's okay I say go and have a ball.

We took DD when she was 3 & I was 7-1/2 months pregnant. All was well until Day 2 we were running late to the Cinderella breakfast. I decided to have us sprint to the castle so as not to miss our reservation. By the time we got there, I was a little sore. When I got up halfway through breakfast to go to the "little princess's room," I realized I had pulled a few things. By meal's end, I realized I had pulled every single muscle south of my bra! I was shuffling like that old Tim Conway character from the Carol Burnett show. DH traded in the stroller for a wheelchair & DD rode on my lap. It was actually quite nice (I'll only admit that here!)
2nd trip, with DS who had been in the belly on the aforementioned trip, in line for Space Mountain one day, DD7 is reading the sign: "mommy, do you have back or neck trouble? Any heart conditions? Are you pregnant?" "No, dear." "Are you sure? The sign says you shouldn't ride if you're pregnant." "Yes, dear. I'm sure." "Well, okay... But I sure hope you don't get pregnant on Space Mountain." Subsequently, the lady in front of me had to apologize for eavesdropping. Hard to deny it when you're doubled over laughing!

well . . .since it is just your 3rd one;) I guess 30 weeks is doable! :rotfl2:
I was in Disney while expecting our 4th (at 6 months) but it was Jan and freeezing cold so that actually helped. no way I'd go in Summer weather. That kind of weather without Disney is to much for me.
that said, just make sure you have all your info with you and clearance from your docs as they sometimes have a better read then we want to believe :rolleyes1
My first 5 kiddos were all born at around 36 weeks gestation, a little early but full term that is. Fairly easy pregnancies. So I thought I could do what I wanted with my sixth. time was ticking and she came two months early and by emergency c-section after 5 natural births. Doc kept telling me to slow down but I thought I knew best. . .ugh. What a wake up call. Fortunately she is fine today after lots of nicu time and tons of follow up care. She's almost caught up to her growth curve but her Mommy learned her lesson. I'm not 20 something anymore!

I went at Christmas and was about 5 months pregnant. I would do it again, but I was very tired. Something I hadn't thought about was being able to be in the hot tub. I missed doing that while I was there. It's so nice to get into one on a cold night!
I had to sit a lot while in the parks and by the end of the trip I was exhausted. I did get a chance to check out all the things available to kids/babies while I was there. That was kind of fun.
One other thing that was disappointing-not much infant merchandise. I went expecting to buy a bunch of cute stuff for my new baby including a nursery bedding set, but I couldn't hardly find anything! I couldn't believe the lack of baby merchandise there. They also didn't have ANY maternity clothes while I was there. But, little tip-I went to Burlington Coat factory before I left for florida and they had some really great disney maternity shirts. They were very reasonably priced too. I got one with Mickey that said " waiting for someone special" People in the parks loved it and I wore that thing all of the time after my trip too!

The first time I went to WDW I was seven months pregnant with my DD(now almost 17). I had a great time. There were plenty of places to stop and rest and I was able to ride most of the rides. I avoided the rides that had the no pregnant women allowed signs and the cm's were really great about offering advice on what I could and could not ride.
The best advice is to trust your body. Only you know how to read it correctly.
Have a great time!!!

My SIL, MIL and SIL's 1 year old son want hubby and I to go with them in July when I'll be 10 weeks along. Even though I love Disney, I had to decline because I don't want to stand in the long lines in the summer heat. I also tire really quickly so I thought it would be best to stay home.

I am 26 weeks along now and we are leaving next Friday for a long weekend over there.
I've been through 3 other pregnancies at Disney before, but also looking for new ideas and thoughts. Definitely stay cool. Lotsa water, cold rag on the head, back of neck, stick to inside rides, shows etc...
Take lots of breaks, and don't be afraid to rent a wheelchair if you have to!
I went when I was 8 months pregnant with my last baby and DH pushed me around all day. It was great! (well maybe not for him! ;) )
We are going back over when I'll be 29 weeks and probably again one more time before our little princess is born in Sept.
Nothing will stop me from enjoying Disney! :woohoo:

I just found out 3 days ago that we are also expecting our third child, and we have a trip planned with the entire family for early nov. i will be about 5.5 months, and I read in the "unofficial guide" about which rides I can and cannot ride...I'm really bummed about missing splash mountain..that is my dd(6) and ds(4) favorite ride and we get our picture taken on it as a tradition. and we can't wait for my MIL and Fil to ride it with us..oh well:guilty:
I sau somewhere that there is a mommy thread..is this true and where can I find it ?? tia

The biggest issue I see with SM isn't the ride as much as the seats. They put you at a very uncomfortable position. I would not want to sit in them pregnant. Also since it is loggs the others bump into you, you do not want that. There will be other trips.
There was a new mommy thread. It died a few months ago. It was going for a few years. (most of the active members left I think.) I started a new one for new members, it took off fast, then seemed to die too. :guilty: There is an active new moms to be, pregnant thread. I don't follow it since I am not pregnant though. I see it on page one often though.

I know- I was the OP and had to giggle when I saw it bumped. We ended up waiting a bit to TTC and now I AM pg with #3 but only about 9 weeks or so. So I wasn't pg when we went in January afterall. I really would love to go this fall while pregnant (not due until January), but I don't know if we'll be able to with my school schedule. I thought it would be a fun thing to do with our two children before the baby comes. But it looks like we might be going in May instead with all three :)
Oh, and congrats to you on your pregnancy!

I was only 10-11 weeks pregnant when we went in 2005.
BUT, by the time I was 30 weeks pregnant, I was VERY uncomfortable (third pregnancy). My first and second were smooth (other than morning sickness)...but the last trimesters were fine. My 3rd pregnancy was so much more painful. My bones were aching and creaking. Ugh. I couldn't imagine doing a Disney vaca. at 30 weeks pregnant with my 3rd. That would've been rough.
Sorry..that's just me.. everyone is different.:confused3

That far along, I would say get a copy of your records from your OB to carry with you. At least you are going in January. I do not recomend summer trips once you are out of your first trimester honestly. Ok I just do not recomend summer trips to anyone. I am a local but I am a huge CHICKEN about our heat.
At 30 weeks I do recomend renting an ECV unless you are lucky and very tiny or uber strong. Walking all day will take its toll on your back and joints. For me this is double so for hips and ankles.

I was 7 months:cloud9: . We had a blast. I have our picture at HDDR review on our fridge. Everytime I look at it I think what a great trip, and how it was DS first trip to WDW via my belly!:rotfl2:

My family went last fall when I was 35 weeks along. Hubby did an amazing job of chasing DS (2.5). I was able to do everything I has planned on - includingthe safari. No problems, we followed our son's pace. Lots of rests while he played in the water "fountains" I really enjoyed the trip, as being so far along caused me to slow down and see the little things that you are normally racing by.
I did have a dr note to fly but was never asked. I also made sure I had room on the flight (2.5 hrs) to stretch out my legs every 30 minutes or so. We returned home the day before I turned 36 weeks - so I REALLy pushed it.
