My son asked to go camping for his birthday, so we have reservations at the Fort Wilderness cabins in August (that's as close to nature as I will get. :rotfl: ). Anyways, what kind of "camping" experiences are there at the resort for a 5 year old boy? I am aware of the campfire in the evenings, is there anything else special? (And is there an extra cost for anything).

There are several things to keep the interest of a 5 year old. Bring or rent a bike at the bike barn. Lots of trails or cruising through the loops. They have play areas with basketball / tennis / volleyball / teather ball etc. Besides the really neat gyms and swings.
For water sports; fishing / water sprites (adult needed $) swimming at the pools. Sandcastles at the lake. From lake you can watch the fireworks and boat parade.
Near the restaurant is the petting zoo. So much to do so little time......
The evening mashmallow roast and campfire movie. They also have scheduled events posted at the comfort stations.

Also near the petting zoo are the pony rides ($3 or $4, I forget) and you can go in the barn and see the horses they use in the Magic Kingdom.

My family and I went to go see the Hoop Dee Doo Review and my youngest sister (3 at the time) loved it!! I liked it as well and I was 11 so I'm sure your son will love it.
