Hiya,
It finally happened - our Continental flights were cancelled and the re-scheduled ones were just awful. But, this is okay as we were uneasy about the trip anyway.

So, Continental says they will give us a refund, no problem. But, they have asked that I send the tickets back to them before they issue a refund. This made me worry a bit, as I'm afraid if I send the tickets back and they get lost in the mail, I'd be out a significant amount of money. Can't they just invalidate the tickets in the computer system and automatically refund the money?

I'm guessing at the very least I should send them back certified mail.

Anyone have experience with this?

Make photocopies of them and send them back REGISTERED mail. Certified only proves that you mailed them. Registered proves they received them.

Good idea about the photocopies! Now, why didn't I think of that? :) Probably because I'm still bummed out a bit about cancelling.

And registered it is. Would there be any benefit to sending it Express (overnight)?

The best thing to do to put your mind to ease is just drive to the nearest airport served by CO and get them refunded at a CO ticket counter ...
