Why is that when the Leafs win a playoff game people say who stupid it is for us Leafs fans to celebrate in the streets, because it's just one win. Well why does nobody say anything to the fans who celebrate in the streets after a Brazil, Italy or Korea win? I mean it's just the round robin stage & the games are more meaning full when they get to the knockout stage. I have nothing against fans celebrating a win for their home country, but when they celebrate after just one win, isn't the same when Leafs fans celebrate after a playoff win? Yes I know the Leafs have not won the Stanley Cup since 1967, but expect for Brazil, when was the last time these countries won a World Cup & a lot of these countries have never won the World Cup.

They are both pretty lame. I can see celebrating winning it all but not these initial games, especially given some of the teams they beat. Now if an underdog team beat Brazil I think that that would be worth celebrating.

At least when the Leafs beat a team in the playoff's they beat a team that is just as good & in some cases better then them, where as some nations in the World Cup have never played in it before & chances are they will not win a single game.

I agree.
I used to live in an east end meighbouhood that had a fairly large Italian population, they would practically have a parade when the team won a game in round 1.
It pissed me off as they would clog the streets with traffic and block my driveway.
I confronted them one year, and was told to bring out my husband so they could teach him a lesson.

Also when that celebration erupts intoviolence like they had splashed all over the Sun the other day with the cop sitting on the portugal fan with the bloodied face it reminds me of Vancouver fans after they lost teh stanley cup finals...

I love soccer - especially World Cup Soccer.
I don't think it's stupid to celebrate a win (for hockey, soccer, or any other sport) Yes, most countries know they won't win the cup. It's all about how far you can get.
I have to disagree with you OP. Even if a country has never been in the the World Cup before, there is still a chance they can win a game.
Why celebrate? 'Cause it's fun!!!!!!!
I do hate it when fans take to fighting in the streets though.
