My apologies if this is lame, but I thought that since there are so many of us who are going to be at this resort one these dates, that it'll be almost impossible NOT to run into someone from these boards while we are there. And then, with all the threads about meeting times and laudry parties, I figured it would be a good idea to have a thread which we might all introduce ourselves and get to know one another a bit.
So, if you're going to be at the resort, stop by here and tell us a bit about yourself.
For starters, my name is Brian, I'm 23, I'm a college senior, and God willing, I will be a college grad (graduating this summer) by the time of this trip. I'll be traveling with my Girlfriend and this will be our second trip this year (couldn't resist the free dinning, like most of you) and we'll be there from 30 Sept - 7 Oct.
Now, for random question of the week - Since there is so much talk about laundry and alcohol, what's everyone's drink of choice? Personally, if I'm drinking, it's Southern Comfort or Johnny Walker black lable on the rocks.
Looking forward to hearing from some others

Our drink of choice when travelling with kids is something much tamer than Southern Comfort (although I AM trying a fiesta margarita in Mexico!!!!) Maybe see some of you there!!!!!!!

Hey guys, nice to see you all. Thanks for stopping in and introducing yourselves. I love to meet new people, so this is always an added bonus of going on vacation. In interest to keep this thread lively, every few days or so I'm going to come here and ask a random question (such as, favorite drink), but I'd like everyone to participate. Got a question, throw it out there.
Speaking of questions, Michelle, if I am correct, the drunken laundry party is 3 Oct at the Hippy Dippy Pool. Just want to make sure, but is that the pool in the 50's section, shaped like a bowling pin?
Looking forward to hearing more from you guys

Hey all. We'll be at POP 9/28 - 10/4. Just booked my direct airfare for a decent price. Woohoo! Traveling, so far, is me, DH, and my mom. We're still hoping DH's mom will join us. MNSSHP on the 29th and at the pool every night except the 29th, as we stay away from EMH.
Me: 28, law student. I'm in my second summer, which means I'm working my butt off. I actually have a really cool job with a great firm and I'm getting to travel a bit for work, so that's always exciting, and I'm not doing work for evil corporations, either. If anyone wants to challenge me to a DDR competition at Innoventions, you're on! I'm a wine drinker or I go for flavored vodka drinks. You can chat with me on AIM if you'd like: jhyatt78.
DH: 31, respiratory therapist, Air Force flight medic, and drummer (for Junction Five - check them out on myspace, I can send you a free button if you'd like one). He's excited about the trip and loves that I take care of the planning, but he just wants to show up and have fun. He's taken to "fining" me $1 every time I talk about the trip. (not really, of course, that wouldn't fly) He drinks wine or vodka martinis and can be seen around the parks wearing a camelback (those military backpacks that hold several liters of water).
Mom: 54, a nurse, but has been working in benefits admin for many years. She is not a drinker, but plans to be at the pool every night as a friend of hers and their family will also be at POP when we are. They've got small kids and our group is focusing more on adult stuff, so the plan is to touch base at night and do our own thing during the day.

Nope it's the MAIN POOL as soon as you come out of Classic Hall. it's not in the shape of anything in my OP, but it's in the 60s section! bar closes at midnite :)

Well, I will jump on the bandwagon. :rockband:
Traveling (by car, from near Athens, Ga) :car:
DH - Doug :cool2: (couch potato, don't get him involved, just wants to get to WDW)
DD - 11, Deanna princess: (don't breath a word about this trip, she dosen't have a clue :tiptoe:) (pooh and piglet lover)
Me - Sharon :surfweb: (master trip planner)
Both of us are in our early 40's. We are self employed, we own a full service gas station, and offer light car repair, like, brakes, oil changes, new and used tires, and A/C work. I sell Avon, and take care of the books, at work. I also clean a local church and bank once a week.
Our drinks of choice, Doug, water, water, water, & sweet tea.
Deanna, water, diet coke. Me, water and diet coke, unsweet tea.
Looking forward to our fist family trip. Doug and me have been, along time ago. Deannas first! I can't wait to take her!!!

Sharon (WDWannabe), welcome aboard the bandwagon. You guys are from near Athens? That's such a cool town. My girlfriend went to UGA for a little while before she transfered down here to LSU. Nice to have you along, and I'll do my best not to pester you guys with any questions about potential car problems or repairs (but I cant seem to help it, no offense, but any time I talk to a mechanic, I j ust can't help but to feel like I am getting taken to the cleaners because I actually know so little about cars).
Also, welcome rigs32. I might be interested in taking you up on your DDR challenge. Though, I'm afraid my game is getting rusty lately (at least ever since Guitar Hero came out for PS2). And, honestly, I had no idea they even had DDR in Innoventions. I never really spent much time looking around at the stuff in there, but I'll certainly have to check it out.
Anyway, it's good to get to know you all, hope to hear from more, or more from you all soon.

BTown - Epcot is where I first played DDR, actually. In 2003, it was in a bubble shaped hut, so you really had to go looking for it and there's virtually no lines. The DDR machine at Disney Quest, on the other hand, was totally swamped with local teens when I was there.

Hey everyone!!
My name is Jennifer, I'm 23, and will be down with my boyfriend Jared and my Dad from 9/30-10/4...I was there twice since December but seriously can't resist the free dining (it also helps that I now have my first full-time job that actually PAYS me on vacation!! ;)) We're leaving from Philly nice and early at 6:30 that morning.
So I've slowly converted my BF into a Disney fan during our last 2 trips and we're now trying to come up with some good costume ideas for MNSSHP. Is everyone going that Friday night, 9/30? We have ADRs for Ohana's around 5 before hand, too...maybe we can all turn one of the Disney Transport busses into our very own Party Bus!!
See you all then :)

Hi, I'm Doris, and hubby and I are older than all of you. We are in our mid to late 50's (when the heck did that happen?), and we get down to Disney several times a year. We're retired from our "real" jobs and ebay and sell from our website to feed our traveling bug! We often travel with our kids and grands.
We have no business going to Disney this trip, because we have a vacation to California and HI coming up shortly after we return home. But we couldn't pass on the food festival and bands in Epcot, and of course the free dining.
My drink of choice is water, hubby's is rootbeer.

My name is Tammie(32) and this is a girls only vacation. I will be traveling with my Mom, Diane(54) and Grandma, Florence(78).
This should be an interesting trip as my grandmother is getting "flighty" and I am in the process of ordering a lanyard so that I can make sure she is carrying my name and cell phone# on her in case she "wanders off" :rotfl:
My drink of choice is anything with Malibu in it and my fav park is Epcot

Fav park - Epcot! It's on our schedule twice and maybe a third on our last day for a final yummy lunch.
Niteowl71 - what meets your definition of "decent" airfare? My mom's Airtran flights from Chicago were $200
Jennifer - we're up for the party bus idea, but it'll have to be on the way back. Our pre-MNSSHP ADR is at Boma and we are planning to have their wine flights.
DMRick - saying hello to fellow NYers. Our loyalties are split between Buffalo and Rochester, but we're flying out of Buffalo this trip so I can get to my Trial Technique class downtown right after getting home.

When we flew in April it was $165 total RT with ATA. Now ATA doesn't fly out of Midway anymore :sad2:
I was hoping to get under $200 but we will see. My DD is flying AirTran, she got it through Disney for $155 total RT.

Hi all ! I'll POP on here too! I'm Chris a just newly 40 (so be nice) yr old SAHM, PTA president, scrapbooker, who loves Disney! I'm married (18 yrs) to MIke, who once again will not be going to DIsney...His theory "I've seen the girls when they met Cinderella for the first time, what more is there?" OMG I know I'm married to him! Then there's my 2 dd's An almost 12 year old "Yes Im perfect" child, she's a competitive ice skater, oboe player, great student who still loves to be a princess! Then there's my wonderful dd#2 who is 6 (turing 7 while we're at Disney) She is a little spitfire, she's a soccer player, can't wait to be in 1st grade, but def my "challenge" child.
I took the girls last year & we had a blast! SO with free dining we're doing it again! We'll be at POP from 9/29 till 10/9. We are character meal crazies! We are using ALL of our TS credits on character meals! This time we're taking a day and going to SeaWorld.
Let's see drink of choice...coffee, coffee, ice wine, margaritas, diet coke & parrots bay rum
Fav park: Epcot no contest
Let's see I'll ask a question - What's your first memory of WDW?
MIne is standing on main street and being in absolute awe of the castle (of course it was pink & u-g-l-y then...but I was still in awe!)

ooo good question....
my fave first memory has to do with my DDs first time to the world last year! (9months old) she was in her stroller and looking at EVERYTHING, we got in IASW and as soon as the boot took off she clapped laughed and was dancing in our laps... i cried  it was soooo happy!!

My earliest/first memory - and I don't know exactly when this was - is walking down a road in MGM and seeing Tower of Terror being constructed. I was at the tail end of the chicken pox and the doctor okayed me visiting one of the parks.
Wait.....am I getting my time frame confused? Anyone know what year ToT was built? I had the chicken pox when I was either 10 or 12 which was 17-18 yrs ago. It can't be THAT old, can it? :confused3 Is MGM even that old???
Well....either way. I was at SOME park in Disney with the chicken pox and SOMETHING was being built :rotfl: and in my head I really like to believe it was ToT :thumbsup2

My parents took me to WDW when I turned four. My brother was convieniently in FL for school there so it was a multi-purpose visit. I remember very little about it, except for a character breakfast. Pluto got into a fight with my dad. Really. It was all in good fun, but they were rolling around on the ground. We stayed at the Poly (only delux trip, but it was all they had in 1982) and I think that's where the meal was.
DH's first WDW trip was with me in Jan 2002 during the military promotion they had. He was about to head out for three months of training in Texas (we live in WNY) and we couldn't pass up the opportunity. It was insanely cheap and we traveled with 2 good friends. I'd heard about the "back entrance" off the main road (192?) and we tried it that first morning. We got confused and paniced prematurely. We found a Disney corporate building and they voted to send me in to ask if we were headed in the right direction (since it was MY idea to go that way, I had to suffer the embarassment). Of course the Disney folk laughed at me. But we had only to go a it longer on the road to find where we needed to go. We eventually found AK and had a great first ride on the safari.
We "desserted" around the world that trip. Epcot was the only evening park, so we went there every night and ate a lot of pastries. France is the hands down winner. The only downfall is that we no longer enjoy Illuminations so much. The globe makes us laugh.

I was 16, and MK was the only park. I was with my Aunt, Uncle and cousins and we went for 1 day. We had the coupon book with the ABCDE tickets. The first 2 rides we went on were Haunted Mansion and Peter Pan, those are my favorites to this day :goodvibes

Hello all! I'm slowly catching up on all the threads for those of us who are taking advantage of checking in on the last day of the free dining and carrying that into October! LOL!
For us (oh, yeah, me, 27, DH, 31 - no children, just us two big kids) it almost didn't happen because we called our usual travel agent and they said, no you have to complete the travel by Sept 30. But I had heard on one of the zillion podcasts I listen to that as long as you check in on Sept. 30 you can carry the free dining to October, so we called Disney directly and voila!
We can't go any earlier because I'm attending a conference in Jacksonville FL starting Oct 8, and wanted to be able to piggy back on the round trip airfare that my work has to get for me regardless. So I get to go a week earlier for vacation, and we only have to purchase one airfare for DH. :cool1:
This will be our...uh...6th trip in 4 years. The most recent was over Easter...we thought it would be "fun" to take a weekend road trip from Texas to Orlando for a whole two days at the park. Couldn't beat the off-site hotel pricing...room with kitchenette for $29 a night! But the drive...ugh...killer. But Easter at the MK was truly magical! And getting to ride Expedition Everest the first time.....wheeeeeeeeeee!
Ok, so to stop babbling and answer the questions I've seen posed so far... my favorite alcholic beverage would be a Mudslide. DH likes imported beer. My favorite park is MK, his is Epcot. My first memory of Disney was as a very small child (probably 5 or 6) and loving Journey Into Imagination and Figment, but being afraid of Dreamfinder (because he had a beard....I was terrified of anyone with a beard, including Santa Claus as a child). To coax me over to pet Figment at a meet-n-greet outside the ride, Dreamfinder told me that Figment had an itch, and could I scrach it right behind his horn? So I timidly went over, and scratched, and Figment wiggled his horn for me! I lost my fear, and am current sitting here looking at the lovely photo my dad took of me kissing Figment and Dreamfinder beaming at me moments after the horn wiggle. (And to make a long story longer, when I went back in high school with Band, I scratched Figment's horn again, and it didn't wiggle, so I knew then that this was something very special that happened as a child.) :figment: :figment:
Ok, enough already. Time to go wake the DH (he works at night and sleeps until afternoon) so we can go to the mundane grocery store!
Talk to everyone later!

Hey guys, and welcome aboard to all who have joined us in the past few days. I've been out of town all weekend and just got home and was happy to see we have more and more people joining us in Sept. I would have come here to check in sooner, but these damn pool hopping threads really seem to keep my occupied.
Anyway, in response to a few questions that are floating around - my fav part is easily Epcot. Ever since I was a kid, long before I was ever able to full grasp the concepts behind this park, I loved it the most. Every time I go to WDW, I always plan to spend at least one full day in every park, but I always end up ending my nights at Epcot. This trip, I think all my ADR's except 2 are in WS, and I am so excited.
As far as the question about our first Disney memory, as sad as it is, I have no idea. Disney has always been such a big part of my life, my whole life, its almost impossible for me to remember or even distinguish between a time in which I was not completely obsessed with WDW.
So, here is an easy question - Favorite ride in all of WDW - For me, it's got to be Splash Mountain. I don't know why, but I am pretty sure I could ride it all day long. That coupled with the fact that Song of the South is probably my favorite Disney movie of all time, next to Alice in Wonderland.

My favorite ride...gosh....that's a tough one! I think Rockin' Rollercoaster for thrill ride, Peter Pan for non-thrill ride, and Philharmagic for attraction!
What is everyone's favorite show/nighttime spectacular? I love Wishes...it never fails to make me cry. I don't know why, but something about the song, and all the wishes I have yet to have come true, I suppose.

You know what's really sad? I haven't seen Fantasmic since our honeymoon at the World in 2002. We really loved it, but just haven't quite made it back to MGM in the evenings since!
However, DH has a video camera now, and so I've promised we'll see it TWICE on this trip, so he can get allllllllll the footage his heart desires. I'm really looking forward to seeing it again, even though that means I'll probably miss seeing Wishes and Spectro as many times as I would like.

Wickedmom75, welcome aboard. Interesting, I think you may be the first person I have ever heard of who would list maelstrom as a favortie ride. I do admit, I like the ride, but I like it in the same way that I love cheesey horror films. TTA is, however, a very excellent and often overlooked choice. Certainly one of my favorites.
As far as nightime shows are concerned, I think Illuminations, hands down, is the best thing Disney has going for it by way of fireworks. Of course, I still prefer the original show. Wishes, however, is the perfect finishing touch for a day/night at the Magic Kingdom. And I am going to go out on a limb and say that Fantasmic is horribly over rated. Not bad, just not worth sacrificing precious time on ToT or RnRC.
Now, let's see. We have covered favorite ride, what is everyone's LEAST favorite ride - attractions and shows don't count here. For me, it's Journey Into Imagination, hands down. And, that is a painful reality for me. The original version of that ride was my all time favorite until it closed, and Splash Mountain took its place. But, when I think of all those childhood trips to WDW in the 80's and early 90's, Figment is the first thing to spring to mind.
And, we've just about all made it to double digits. Now it's just around the corner.

I might be in the minority here but I really can't stand IASW. Do I go on it everytime I am there....yes....I don't know why, though! :rotfl:
I remember the first time I took DH (2002) and we were standing in line and I kept saying I was sorry and he was starting to get irritated at me because I wouldn't tell him anything about the ride....just that he had to experience it for himself. Needless to say when we got off he was like "Don't. EVER. Do. That. Again!" :rotfl2: It was too funny. After that I had to explain every ride we were going on or he wasn't doing it :lmao:

Ellen's Energy Adventure. When I was little my parents would always drag me on this and it was SOOOO boring as a child. I haven't been on it since Ellen took over, so it might be better now, but my memory of it is just awful. LOL!
Ok, I'm off to new student orientation (I work at a university). I'll be thinking of other rides I don't like...maybe I'll come up with someone else in the next few hours!

Yeah, I have to agree with you guys, the tea cups can be a bit sickening. I think I would almost enjoy them if I could just ride them at the pace that they are naturally when no one in the cup spins them. But, it always seems to be this irresistable urge to see how fast you can get those things going, and of course, everyone in the cup pays by the end of the ride.
but also Star Tours.
As much as it pains me, I'm starting to agree more with this too. Star Tours used to be one of my favorite rides as a kid. It all seemed so real. But now that the ride techology is getting on to be about 20 years old (debuted at DL in 1987 I believe) it's really starting to show its age. It really is sad, but apart from RnRC and ToT, I'm starting to feel like all of MGM is really showing its age more than any other park. Is it just me, or does it feel like Disney is just abandoning it? This, of course, does not mean I don't love it all the same. Apart from Epcot, its about the only park I can stay in from open to close and not start to get bored. But, I attribute all of that to the fact that I LOVE movies. But even that, I'm starting to feel like MGM has much much less to do about movies now, than it did 10 years ago. Maybe that's just me.
I also remember Universe of Energy being horribly boring, but it was always worth it, as a kid, to see the Dinosaurs. I haven't been on the new version of this ride. I think now, as I have gotten a little bit older, I realize just how much I miss the old Future World, before everything became kid friendly and entertaining. There was something about that dry, straight forward, no nonsene educational approach to Future World that, to me, really defined its personality as a park. Even as a child, unable to fully appreciate the park, I loved its approach to knowledge, growth and understanding. I can't help but to feel that a lot of that is being compramised by making the park more friendly to the thrill seeking, entertainment seeking guest. Which of course, is fine, but there are three other parks for that.
Wow, sorry, I did get on something of a tangent there.
Anyway, let's try another questions to get the discussion flowing again. We all know everyone's favortie park, but which is the park you always end up spending the LEAST amount of time in? I will venture a guess that most people will answer with Animal Kingdom.
For me, it's Magic Kingdom. It's odd, some of my fav rides are there (POTC and Splash Mountain, HM, BTMRR) but I can't spend more than about 3 hours at this park before the crowds start to drive me insane. Seems like this is easily the most crowded park.
So come on, I'm interested to hear what you lot think.

I love Star Tours and Soarin, I guess I like to feel like i'm doing things that I am really too afraid to do for real!
My least favorite is Buzz Lightyear.
I love MK, but I am with Brian it is the park we visit on short stops only.

Ok, checkin' in. :wave2: We'll be at Pop from 9/30-10/7. It will be my DH (Brian 28), our DD (Tabitha 5) and myself (Stacey, will have just turned 29 on 9/25). I work in marketing/customer service, my DH builds boats, barges, yachts, & bridges, and DD starts kindergarten this fall. We're picking up our DD after school on the 29th and driving overnight. She thinks that we're going to Tennessee, imagine how surprised she'll be when she wakes up the next morning at WDW! :teeth: This will be my 48th trip, my DH's 7th trip, and our DD's 6th. We were supposed to go to WDW in May for our fifth anniversary, but DH wanted to go to Gatlinburg. :furious: Bad husband! Bad, bad, bad! Anyway, we were going to Disneyland for the first time ever this year, but switched it to WDW for the free dining. (We've tried to go to DL for the last 3 years, somehow it just keeps getting switched to WDW. :confused3 Oh, well, maybe next year) Ok, on to the questions:
Favorite drink: Pina Colada (me) DH Big Red (doesn't drink)
Favorite Park: Epcot (DH & me) Disney -MGM studios (DD)
Best Memory: Not one in particular, but all the Memories of "growing up" at Fort Wilderness & watching my DH on his first trip for our honeymoon
Favorite Ride: Pirates of the Caribbean (me) DH Mickey's Philharmagic DD Tower of Terror
Least Favorite ride: Astro Orbiter & the sardine elevator (me) DH the teacups :crazy2: DD It's a Small World
Park we spend the least amount of time in: Animal Kingdom, the park that is 30 degrees hotter than anywhere else on disney property :faint:

Stacey, I know just what you mean about memories of watching your husband's reactions to his first trip to WDW. My DH's first trip was also on our honeymoon, although I had been several times as a young child before my parents divorced. The honeymoon was extra special, too, because we were chosen to be Grand Marshalls in the MK afternoon parade...I think that's what hooked him on going to WDW, because through that experience he really understood what I found so special about being at WDW.
The park we have spent the least amount of time in over the last three years would be DAK (Disney's Animal Kingdom). We were there on the honeymoon for a day, and then we hadn't been back until this past Easter when we went because of Expedition Everest (and then we didn't stay past 2pm because it was toooo crowded and waaaay too hot!). On that trip, I discovered there are worse crowds at DAK now than at MK. It was INSANE the day before Easter at DAK...more croweded than I have ever seen it at MK (and I've been there for several holiday, although never Christmas), and then Easter at MK we were prepared for even bigger crowds, and it was less crowded than we've almost ever seen it. One of the very nice CMs we talked to throughout the day said that for the first time every DAK's attendance is the highest on property, but the company just don't know how long it will keep up...they know a lot of is the new-ness factor of EE, but long-time they don't know how it will affect attendance.
Oops, tangent! :)
Wish me luck tomorrow - we're going before our local housing tax apprasial arbitration review board because we're protesting that our propery taxes are too high! I'm nervous...I've never done anything like that before!

Good luck iwynlea! That sounds pretty scary....
I would have to agree with everyone. I love ALL of the parks but if I had to choose one it would be AK. I like to spend the day exploring it but once is enough for me per vacation. Who knows with EE, though?
Kinda off topic but I am making a little gift bag for my mom and grandmother. So far I have: Disney T-shirt, Lanyard (so DGM doesn't get lost :rotfl: ) and those little personal hand held fans.
Anyone might have any other ideas?

Hi all,
We consist of DH-58 and myself 48. I started going to Disney in 1974, when it was still A,B,C,D and of course, E Tickets...My girlfriend and I got the first all ride pass from a special that Florida AAA offered for , Drumroll...8 Dollars! you tied the pass to your button like a lift ticket and got on any ride when others had to come up with the required ticket. It was awesome, and created a bit of animosity from other guests...
We have been to Disney well over 50 times with our kids, who are now DS26 law student starting 2nd year, DS 24 active duty USAF, and DD 22 who is a tour guide and museum docent. They are very envious of our travels to the world. We are both handicapped, husband has replaced hip and knee because of bike/car accident in 85. I have mild muscular dystrophy.
Favorite park, hands down, EPCOT. Favorite meal for DH is always Biergarten, and I have learned to enjoy the other guests at our table. I am now a retired controller, and even met another air traffic controller from an adjacent city. Small world.
Favorite ride? Tie between Test Track and Soarin. No more drinking for us, sob.
Favorite in MK is Pirates followed by people mover and love Philarmagic for the fun of it.
Favorite in AK is easy for us, the safari followed by another safari ride.
Looking forward to meeting you.
By the way, I made a mistake with my choice of user name. If I don't capitalize the TINK I become tinkelgee. I don't tinkle out in public, lol.

Great post! I'm looking forward to seeing so many dis'ers during our trip!
Our cast of characters:
Me (will have just celebrated the 2nd anniversary of my 25th birthday before we go, SO EXCITED to go to WDW for the first time!)
DH (28, happy to have a vacation but not overly excited about WDW)
DD (will be 9, VERY EXCITED but does not want to see the princesses :( )
DS (will by 6, not excited at all - says if he doesn't have $1000 to spend he will let his aunt go in his place - he's so funny!)
This is the first trip for all of us and the kids first airplane trip too! I love travelling and am so excited to FINALLY be able to take the kids to Disney! I am a little disappointed that my daughter has outgrown the princesses and my son isn't excited, but they have been diligently earning their disney dollars so I think the excitement is starting to increase.
I will post our itinerary soon as it would be awesome to bump into many of you!
Oh, we are going 9/24 - 10/1 and attending MNSSHP on the 29th.

Our DD, who will be 6 in December, has almost outgrown the princesses. She's really into pirates now, and has decided that for MNSSHP she wants to be Elizabeth Swann-Turner. (She originally wanted to be Jack Sparrow, she such a tom-boy :lmao: ) And, it's all about the thrill rides at the parks now. Which is fine with me because my DH is such a "bock-bock" http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j179/BriansPyxie042/chicken.jpghe won't ride anything.

Hey, it has been a while. Let's see... favorite land in Magic Kingdom... that's really tough. Frontier Land has two of my favorite rides, while I think I really enjoy the atmosphere of Adventure Land... but since I always have been, and always will be a geek at heart, Tomorrowland is my fav. Of course, I still prefer the OLD Tomorrowland, but when the new one is lit up at night, it's amazing.

Hi everyone !!! I'm home! WOW, nothing like a week and a half somewhere else to make you want to go to Disney EVEN more!!!! We had a great time though, just very...relaxing.....relaxing.....
My dd's Ice skating team won 4th place! An international medal! We were 199% thrilled!
Went whale watching off Provincetown...amazing...THAt was the highlight of the trip for me. I found Martha's Vineyard to be a bit, ok a lot boring. Cape Cod in general was fun, the beaches are great, low tide is amazing, I swear we walked miles out before hitting water!
& here's the cool part...now that I'm back...WE'RE IN DOUBLE DIGITS BABY!!!! WAHOO! I am so psyched! My girls must have said a dozen times "couldn't we have saved this money to go to Disney?" hahahah they are going to be so surprised!
Itinerary:
Sat 9/30 - Arrive MCO 10:25 am, Happy Limo to POP, head over to MK ASAP. Try to see/do some of Fantasyland. Dinner at Crystal Palace 6:25 pm. Stay for Spectro & Wishes

Speaking of Magic Kingdom, I have to ask - how does everyone feel about the changes to Pirates of the Carribean?
I saw some video today of some of the new features they've added, and they look amazing, but I just don't think its right changing a classic like that. It's like, trying to re-write text books or something.

OK - I will try to answer all the questions posed in this thread!
We will be at POP Sept 23 - Oct 2. Me (32 - Supermom/Financial Analyst/Accountant/Master Disney Planner & Scrapbooker), DH (30 - Superdad/works in receiving at a major retail distribution center doing something that's hard to explain/Master Landscaper), DD7 (thinks she rules the house/Disney channelaholic/ToT lover since age 4/Super Diva), and DD2 (thinks she rules the house/loves hugs & kisses/fears nothing). We all enjoy family time together and church activities.
This is our third trip to DisneyWorld (all in September - we love the low crowds and great deals) and our second to POP. We skipped 2004 because I was 9 months pregnant in September! This year my brother (26 - restaurant manager) and brand new sister-in-law (27 - cosmetic counter manager at major department store) will be joining us at POP Sept 24 - 30 for their very first Disney trip! We are still waiting on airfares to come down - maybe after the summer season. Last year we flew $160 round trip on Delta and missed out on the $39 each way from Southwest that we're hoping will repeat itself (or a least something close). We will have to pay for DD2 return flight only as she's turning 2 at Disney!
We do not have a favorite or least favorite park because we love many things at each one! Our favorite ride, hands down, is ToT. Least favorite is Stitch (horrible)! DD2 loves everything that she's able to ride! Our favorite night show is Fantasmic. Drinks - Me (Margarita/Diet Coke), DH (Sprite/Beer), DD7 (Diet Sprite), DD2 (Juice). No favorite country at Epcot yet - we've never been to them all (we're fixing that on this trip).
Our itinerary is as follows:

Hey guys, I'm totally slacking on checking these boards - I'm just a month shy now of finishing summer school, which is this case, means graduating, and I'm starting to feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, of course, I know the light is right there, just about 87 days away (wow, is it really that close now, or am I just bad at counting?).
Anyway, welcome to all who have just joined us.
As far as a favorite WS country, that's hard to say, but I think I end up spending more time in Germany than anywhere else, mainly because of the beer and that awesome candy store..
I got a question - We have any Lost fans on this board? I just found out that the Season 3 is going to start on Oct 4, which means I am going to have to change some ADR's, because, I may be at Disney World, but I'm not missing that show for anything.
Also, this is a bit off topic, but today makes 5 weeks since I have smoked a cigarette - now if only those cravings would go away, I'd be set...

OK I'm back and as promised it is past midnight. My family worries about me sitting in the dark staring into the computer screen but its all for them! So much research, so much info... need to plan... need to make it all perfect...
OK enough bs. I LOVE WDW. The trips are ALL for me! There I said it, I'll move on.
Cast: Me, 43, part time dialysis tech, DH, Mike, 42, surveyor, DD's 9 and 2 princess: princess:
3rd family trip Twice at POP, Once at all stars. I visited once with my best friends family way back when there where ABCD tickets and Magic Kingdom was all there was. ( and we where happy to have just that)
My favorite memory dates back to that very first visit-- My friend Sue and I, alone, set free in the park from the parents and many cousins she had, hanging out as only young teenagers can do (little or no $$, too young to get into any "real" trouble, but sullen and bored) Along comes Eeyore and he joins us in our lounging, hanging out, sort of blue state of mind. Then he gets up and wanders off. No crowds, no lines, -drat- no camera! But the whole encounter still lives perfectly clear in my head, just like I was 12 or 13 again. (must comment on how well those trip report people manage to paint a picture with words-- much harder to express myself with no body language and hand gestures)
Favorite park- Magic Kingdom of course but Animal kingdom a close 2nd (DD 9 LOVES all animals)
No favorite or least favorite rides but am finding it much different with a 2 year old along. Getting on and off now an issue on some rides- moving conveyor belts are a little tricky while carrying said small child, need to skip others completly :sad2: little one didn't like it dark last year. Baby swap a great thing as DD9 gets to ride both times :cheer2:
OOPs this is gettting a tad long. Shouldn't reveal all my inner thoughts and secrets just yet-- too soon after meeting you all :rolleyes1
oh  we are arriving on the 30th after a few days with inlaws in Central Florida and staying thru the 8th-- early flight out. We are planning on attacking--err attempting-- to ride EE early Sun. morning Oct 1st as I see a few others have AK planned too. Race anyone? :moped:

Hey guys, what's up? Fav CS place, I think would have to be Tusker House. What is it with Animal Kingdom, they dont have any TS resturants, but they have the best CS in all of WDW, if you ask me anyway. Anyway, glad to see we've got some Lost fans here. Everyone thinks I'm crazy, and I'll likely be sitting in my room alone when the new season starts... but I can't wait to see it. Or, I might just break down and pay for a night of internet connection in my room, and download the episode from iTunes and watch it after hours. We can have a mini Lost party.
Anyway, anyone here seen the new Pirates movie yet? What are your thoughts about it?
Also, not sure if this one has been asked yet, but what's your favorite song from a Disney attraction, past or present?
Tinkerbell_Girl
07-08-2006, 03:23 PM
I'm not sure if it really counts as a song since it has no words, but I really like the music from Soarin'. It is just so relaxing.

Fave CS - Tangerine Cafe by far
POTC2 - saw it last night, thought it was a fun bit of adventure and a great ad for the Caribbean.
We were at the drive in and the second movie was Cars which I was kinda bored with. It was pretty and the character development was good, but the "moral" seemed too heavy handed for a movie supposedly for all ages. It was more a kid-centric movie.

I can't wait to see Jack Sparrow again pirate:

I don't think we're doing the waterparks....Since this is a surprise trip for my girls, I kinda can't ask them...it was a choice between water park and SeaWorld...since it's been 6 years since we've made it to SeaWorld I decided to opt for that. Hopefully Imade the "right" choice!
DisneyMommyMichelle
07-10-2006, 06:25 PM

We've been to BB, and really enjoyed it! It was, let's see, about 2 years ago, I think. The big slide...uhhh..forget the name...the one that looks like a ski jump, it's cool, but you do get a heck of a wedgie from it! Other than that, it was a lot of fun with lots of good slides and a great lazy river.
We may go to a water park this trip, but I just don't know. We'd like to try TL, since we've never been there. I thought about the day of MNSSHP, but I know how the sun and water affect both DH and I...we'd be wiped out and too sleepy to really enjoy ourselves that night, I think. Something about the water just makes us both sooooo tired!
And to catch up on the questions...favorite CS would be Columbia Harbor House, because most people don't know you can go upstairs to eat so it's never crowded! Favorite music would be Journey Into Imagination (the OLD version!) because I can sing that song all day long! LOL! :)

Last year we did both BB and TL with my DD (6) and DS (8)
IMO TL is better for little kids (4 and younger) the play area is more suited to younger ones than BB's kid area. Also BB I believe has more slides/rides that require a height restriction.
Plus TL has more shaded areas to sit

I keep all of our "trip" specific stuff in a strange place in between trips...we have one of those cheap plastic over-the-door shoe holders, which we bought for our second cruise, because you can throw stuff in THERE instead of having it all over the cabin. Except we found it was so useful, not just on the cruise, but for the hotel rooms too, that we keep it hanging in our linen closet year-round and toss little trip stuff in it as we get it.
Right now (from memory - I'm at work!), I think we have all our travel sized shampoos, lotions, etc., water misters, travel-sized medicines (some in baggies), moleskin and small scissors, waterproof watch, sunblock, and water shoes in there. As we get closer to time, we'll put all the other small stuff in it, pull it off the door and roll it up. It goes into the suitcase all rolled up, and when we get to the hotel, it's a snap to unroll it - and everything is still in it's place and already organized!
About a month before we go, I'll hijack one of our laundry baskets and start tossing the bigger stuff in it...beach towels, stuff we purchase as we go along, etc. so that when I go to pack, everything is in one location.
I'm getting sooo excited!!! Wish we were leaving tomorrow! 73 more days!

A bin really helps me, so that i am not searching at the last minute for stuff! that way i dump the bin into the suitcase adn start to organize from there! Hey, it's been a while. I've just moved into a new apartment, setting up the internet and trying to survive this last week of summer school, so I have been some what out of the loop as of late.
I think we are hitting that low point of Disney Vacation Anticipation. You know, when you first book your trip, you are really excited, and want to plan and talk about it, etc. But then you talk about it, and anticipate it so much, for so long, it comes a point when it seems like those dates will never come, so the flame dies down a bit (this is the low point) and then when you get within that one month range, it becomes real and obtainable again, so the fire starts raging. But, we are about 2 months away, 60 something days. It's almost here. And trust me, I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I need a vacation.
As far as questions - not sure if anyone has asked this yet - what ride or attraction which is no longer at WDW do you miss the most?
As for me, I think it's just about every thing in Epcot. I just really miss Epcot from the 80's and it's bland, almost boring, but no nonsense approach to educating people on particular subject. Also, I miss the original Illuminations.

So, I have a question to all, and it may seem a bit silly. I made my dinner reservations several months ago, and now, I can't find the sheet I had written them down on. So, I have no idea where I am eating most nights, much less when. I am sure there is someone I can call at Disney and find this out, but who do I need to call? Any info would be appreciated.

I miss the original Illuminations as well. The "globe shaped tv" does nothing for me, and the original music was so much better. It seemed like the music was more in sync with the lasers & fireworks too.

And, as far as my favorite Disney character, that's a tough question. I'm obsessed with the movie Song of the South, so probably would have to say Brer Bear or maybe Baloo from Jungle Book. Does Capt Barbosa count as a Disney character?

The MK is also open till 11PM Sat OCt 7th, then till 10 PM every SAT in Oct, so guess is the "locals" are impacting the crowds on Saturdays in the Fall. The schedule has not changed since it came out since March, Disney's methods to determine thier hours will allways be a mystery.
To me the bigger mystery is why AK and Epcot switched EMH (evening) on the week we are there? :scratchin

The Adventurers Club -- A 1930s explorers' club, this is certainly the most Disney nightspot on Pleasure Island. The club is decorated with many "treasures and artifacts" brought back from far off expeditions. Many of the artifacts are not as inanimate as they seem and often come to life throughout the evening. Official club officers and members make the rounds to regale you with their stories and introduce you to the club's customs and activities. Check out the Adventurers Club FAQ for more info.

What is the Adventurers Club?
The Adventurers Club (AC) is one of the eight clubs at Pleasure Island (PI), Walt Disney World's nighttime entertainment complex. You will not find anything quite like the AC anywhere else on the island. The AC presents an interactive entertainment experience in a setting reminiscent of the fictional 1930's gentleman adventurer clubs, as depicted in Hollywood films of that era.
What kind of entertainment is presented at the Adventurers Club?
The AC presents themed interactive entertainment. Think of the AC as a theater that is presenting a play. In ordinary theaters, the audience is seated while the action continuously unfolds on the stage in front of them over a fixed, limited period of time. The AC, however, is a bit like going to a theater at no special time, sitting right on the stage -- one that encompasses the entire theater -- and having the action sporadically occur all around you, even to the extent of your functioning as an extra in the play.
You are a visitor to the Adventurers Club on New Years Eve 1937, when the Club holds an open house for the purpose of recruiting new members (that’s you). You will be invited to become initiated as a Club member and participate in the various activities that are held that evening, such as casting your vote for the Adventurer of the Year.

Will I like the Adventurers Club?
The AC is perhaps a little like the Enchanted Tiki Birds at the Magic Kingdom in this respect: You'll either love it or dislike it -- not much middle ground here. Because of its unusual nature, it is hard to predict which camp a specific individual will fall within. It is fair to say, though, that many of those who at least initially dislike the AC have never really experienced what it's all about.
Using the theater analogy, a brief visit to the AC is like arriving at the theater a half-hour before the show starts and leaving after only 15 minutes because nothing has happened yet. This does happen to many people due to the way the AC is physically laid out as well as the way the action unfolds. Just as entry to the Magic Kingdom was designed to be a gradual process (to allow you to put the "real" world well behind you before you walk down Main Street), you are drawn into the world of the AC slowly.
DisneyMommyMichelle
08-07-2006, 11:57 AM
What is the Adventurers Club like?
As you enter the AC, you pass into a moderately large, somewhat darkened room known as the Zebra Mezzanine. The center of this room is completely open to the floor below (protected by a railing all around). There is a small Maitre D's podium to the left of the doorway, but there is usually no one there.
As you walk around to the back, you notice numerous old captioned photos hanging on the walls; photos that document the lives and travels of the fictional AC members. Along the way, you may come across Graves the Butler (one of the resident characters), all decked-out in formal attire.
Peering downstairs over the railing, you notice people milling about in the Main Salon on the lower level. It is a circular room centered about a life-size bronze statue of a mythical god that is completely encircled with comfortable seating. On one side is a small bar, and doorways into the other rooms can be seen at various points around the outer perimeter. Antique-looking chairs are scattered about. There are all manner of artifacts mounted on the walls and even hanging from the ceiling; the combined treasures and mementos of the Club's most daring and adventurous members!
As you reach the back of the Zebra Mezzanine, you walk down the staircase which leads you to the Main Salon. You enter, locate suitable seating, settle in and relax, perhaps ordering a drink. Before long, one or another of the club members may pass through. Perhaps it will be the frumpy Pamelia Perkins, Club President, or the Club Maid (whose uniform the gentlemen are sure to notice).
Every twenty minutes or so an announcement is made in the Main Salon that the next club activity is about to commence. You will then be directed to the correct location. Some activities, such as the Club Initiation, occur right in the Main Salon. Others occur in the Mask Room, the Treasure Room or the Library, all of which are just off the Main Salon. Each of these four rooms have their own special Disney magic. From walls that come alive in the Mask Room to Fingers, the haunted organ, in the Library, myriad strange occurrences punctuate the coming and goings of the slightly daffy Club members.
When is the best time to visit the Adventurers Club and how long should I plan on staying?
The AC's doors open at 7 p.m. (Occasionally, the opening may be delayed due to a private party.) The first activity is usually scheduled for 7:20 and last starts about 12:40. You can arrive at any time and stay for as long as you like, but experienced AC visitors will stay most of the evening, perhaps ducking out to take in a Comedy Warehouse show or the New Year's celebration, both of which are just outside the AC's front door. Although it can get a bit crowded inside at times, you should have no trouble getting in to the AC, even during the peak seasons.
Upon arrival, simply proceed to the Main Salon and wait for the next activity to begin. After each event, return to the Main Salon and wait for next one to be announced.
The schedule of activities and locations can be found on plaques near the various rooms.

There a number of "permanent" members that seem to show up each night at the AC to mingle with other Club members and visitors, as well as to participate in Club events:
Pamelia Perkins - The fastidious Miss P., Club President, is usually available to greet visitors, to initiate new Club members and to try to keep things at the Club under control.
Otis T. Wren - Club Treasurer and ichthyologist of sorts, Otis is perhaps not really the adventurer he would like us to believe he is.
Graves - Loyal Club Butler, the formally attired Graves is usually around and about tending to the needs of the members.
The Maid - She often passes through the Main Salon with her feather duster, ready to keep all those old artifacts clean as a whistle.
Hathaway Browne - The aviator of the Club and unabashed ladies man, Hathaway cuts a striking figure as he dashes hither and yon.
Fletcher Hodges - The slightly off-center Club Curator, Fletcher is the voice of authority regarding the Clubs eclectic artifact collection.
Samantha Sterling - This daring adventuress seems to have just returned from safari, judging by her attire, and is always willing to share her stories of adventure with other Club members.
Madame Zarkov - This member of the AC often puts on a gypsy show in the library on the nights that she visits.
Emil Bleehall - bumbling but lovable member of the Adventurers' Club. His innocent charm will keep you in stitches.
There are also two characters to be found in the Main Salon who are permanent club fixtures as it were--Babylonia and the Colonel. If you linger in the Main Salon for a while, one or the other is bound to animate the proceedings before very long.
What are the Library events like?
Major Club events occur in the Library throughout the evening at intervals of approximately 45 minutes. Seating is primarily at small tables with comfortable padded chairs. There is additional seating at the bar at the back of the room, as well as on stools that have been placed along the two-story high bookcase side walls. The action occurs on the small stage at the front of the Library. The stage is dominated by the now-haunted pipe organ console, known as Fingers, that has fallen through the second story balcony above.
If you want to be right in the thick of things, there is a bench on each side of the stage that seats three to four people. Many people do not know that they can sit here, so you may be able to get these seats even if you are not first in line when entering. The row of tables just in front of the stage offers an excellent view, but beware -- this is interactive entertainment and much of the interacting is with the front row dwellers!
Although the specific events and scheduled times may vary, the following list will give you a feel for the kinds of things to expect:
Welcome Party - generally the first library show on nights when the club opens on time (when it doesn't they dispense with this show). Club members greet their open house guests with a singalong.
Serial Radio Thriller Broadcast - The AC is the site of this regular radio broadcast put on by various Club members.
Balderdash Cup Competition - This competition is for the Club member with the best adventure story of the year, which, as we all know is just balderdash.
Second Annual Radiothon Talent Show - The AC has to pay the rent and this annual tradition is designed to raise money by showcasing the inimitable talents of the Club members.
Adventurers Cabaret - Some Club members actually can sing up a storm, most notably Samantha Sterling, daring adventuress.
Maid's Sing-A-Long - Join in with the Club Maid for a song-fest.
Bon Voyage Hoopla! - The night is nearly over and this is a fitting send-off for adventurers 'til next time.
What's in the Mask Room?
The Mask Room is a cozy alcove just off the Main Salon which serves as the repository for the Club's extensive collection of rare and unusual native masks collected from around the world. And, in the best Disney tradition, these masks have an attitude! At different times throughout the evening, you will be invited in to mingle with the masks. (Members of the Disney internet group RADP can often be found in the Mask Room.)
What's in the Treasure Room?
A second alcove off the Main Salon houses the Treasure Room, which displays many of the Club's rarest and most interesting artifacts. At different times throughout the evening, you will be invited into the Treasure Room. Keep an eye on the back wall and you will soon encounter the Club's resident disembodied spirit.
What kind of refreshments are served at the Adventurers Club?
The AC serves the standard range of mixed drinks and bottled beer, as well as several special Adventurers Club mixed drinks which are available with or without alcohol. Soft drinks can also be purchased. The Adventurers Club does not serve any food.
Is there anything else I should know about the Adventurers Club?
The Official Drink of the Adventurer's Club is the KUNGALOOSH!
Be sure to participate in the new member induction!
Ask the Colonel to teach you the Beer Song.
The stools at the Main Salon bar can be made to slowly rise or fall at the whim of the bartender.
The illuminated ship-in-the-bottle that is displayed on the wall behind the Library bar doesn't always just sit there looking pretty. Keep an eye on it after the storm.
If you just can't get enough of the AC in one night and decide to return a few nights later, don't be surprised if Otis T. Wren has become Fletcher Hodges, or the Maid has become Samantha Sterling: Cast members sometimes take different roles on different nights. Also, there are at least two different cast members available to take on each role.

We love the AC, too, but I don't think we'll get over there this trip.
And TOT all the way. I went with a dance group a couple years ago and they wanted to make shots that said TOT across the back. Then, to prevent having the "O" in the middle, it was going to be TOT*. I suggested we put "terror" across the back. They liked that idea. And we each chose a different Disney character iron on for the front. I still have the shorts, but several washes dislodged the "terror", but I still have my Doc on the front (I was the oldest by several years).
What's the new or updated attraction you're excited about? Expedition Everest for me and the start of Pirates. I saw video of the effects and they look *amazing*.

Thanks for all the info on AC! We're very much wanting to spend part of an evening over there this year...all the info just makes me want to go more!!
RnR all the way for me...I'm afraid of ToT...we've never been on it. DH hates drop rides, and I don't like elevators, sooooo...maybe someday.

I hate to have to post but I am cutting my trip short and may have to cancel the whole thing before 8/16. I am turning to this group for support with my heart breaking :sad2:
I want to offer up my dinner reservations to this group before calling to cancel, maybe someone can be happy and it would make me feel so much better.
Soon to be canceled is 10/6 Fri Coral Reef at 5:30pm and 10/7 Sat LeCellier at 6pm. both are seatings for 4 people.
PM me if anyone could/would like these. I'll be happy to arrange a time to call to cancel.

I got my lime green Mickey heads from Home Depot last night! I took about half of their Mickey heads which ended up being 13. I kept on thinking the Mickey paint chip police were going to stop me on my way out! :rotfl: So now my window will be somewhat decorated!
