I know this is a strange question, but does United still allow passengers to listen in to the control tower communications? This was one of my favorite things on our United flights, but after Sept. 11th, I'm wondering if it is still allowed.

It is totally up to the cockpit if they will turn channel 9 on (tower communications).
I just flew back from Tampa to Denver Saturday, and the pilot DID have channel 9 on. I do believe that United is the only airline that offers this feature.
Barb, when you get on the plane, ask the pilot if he will have tower communications available. Or the F/A. Many times they will only turn it on if they get a request.
By the way starting October 31, United will no longer serve meals on flights under 3:45 hours.
Barb, make sure you pick up a little snackie in ORD!!!:D

Thanks for the warning about chow!!!
Our flight is at 6:30, and I am planning to leave work at noon, so as soon as we get the car all packed, we are heading to ORD. Hopefully that will get us there VERY early, and we plan to have a nice meal at Berghoffs or somewhere else in the airport.
I'll be sure to ask the pilot about channel 9. I don't know why, but I really enjoy it! I am a paranoid flyer, but hearing all the routine chatter reassures me.
