What type of adhesive do you use or recommend? I have been using a photo glue stick and the photo corners but was wondering if there are any better products out there?

I hate the CM tape runner, but I think I have an old style one. I love the hermafix repositionable dots - I just need that flexibility as I always change my mind!

Another vote for the CM tape runner. I just got my "new style" one last night. Hope it doesn't gum up like the old one. That was my only complaint.

CM tape runner...it's fast, it's easy and a little goes a long way. And no, the new version does not gunk up.

I love the CM tape runner and the CM photo splits!

my problem isn't with the dispenser - it the permanance, it is SO permanent, and very white - I always seem to want to move something and then I have to prise it off the page with undo, and there's still a mark left and bits of white tape - does noone else change their mind?? I do like it for things that I don't want to budge (like the layers on the MGM layout I did - that is all attached with CM tape as I didn't want it to shift while I was cutting.) but generally I find I change my mind and the thing is truely well stuck down.

The CM tape runner is made to be permanent. But have you tried Undu? It works pretty well for taking up pics and stickers and such without damaging them or the page.

What are CM photo splits?

Grover-

the photo splits are the little "squares" that are adhesive on both sides. You peel one off the roll it comes on, place it on the back of your photo or paper or whatever you are adhereing, then remove the backing (it's like the paper backing a sticker comes on) and stick it down. I like it b/c I can put it on the backs of all my photos, lay them out, and once I've decided on where I want them, then I just peel off that little tab and stick them down! The tape runner is faster, but I do like both a lot.

happy scrappin,
Candi

I feel that there are so many different situations that I can't possibly get away with using only one type of adhesive. I use photo splits for mounting photos to the mounting paper. I also use Hermafix for the ability to be able to repositions things. Then I use a Zig for small items like punches. You also have to match up your adhesive with the type of paper you are working with. Some adhesives can be seen behind some papers. When you settle on your own personal style, you will be partial to certain adhesives. Just keep talk to people and getting their ideas. Then try some of the different things out on the market.

I went out and bought a Zig glue pen to use in the new album I 'm starting, it seems that it will be easier to manouver/control than a glue stick.

I've tried them all, and love Hermafix. I need to be able to reposition. Permanent adhesive is, well, too permanent for me!

I love the old CM tape runner, but I am not sure about the new one. I have noticed that if I use Hermafix I can move stuff if I do it right away. I have also fallen in love with my Zyron.::yes::

Well, since my previous answer here is 3 years old I thought I'd better update it!! When I read it I wondered how somebody else could have answered under my name! LOL!!
I hated the new CM tape runner. So now I'm a Hermafix girl too. I use a glue pen or my xyron for smaller pieces but I use the Hermafix most often.

I understand that EK Success bought Hermafix so you will now see it under a new name. Not sure what the new name is but you will recognize it when you see it. I at first thought EK Success was copying Hermafix but the sales person told me Hermafix was bought.

I also like the Glue Dots for heavier things

The new Hermafix name will be Dotto, I believe?

I use many different adhesives depending on what I'm putting down.

*3L Photo Fixes for my pictures and mats. (Similar to the CM photo splits, I think.. although they are permanent, if I'm careful and need to rearrange, I can)
*Xyron X for letters I've cut out
*Hermafix (repositionable) for things too big to go through the Xyron X
*Glue dots for my metals

I think that's it... LOL!!

This is so funny! An old thread but a goodie!
I use a variety of adhesives. I was sold on hermifix but the last 2 rolls I purchased don't seem to stick like they use to and some of my matted items pop up. I love the CM tape runner but hate the new style love that is is refillable but hate the long run of paper. The CM mini is great too
I also like the hermifix tabs and I use the mono glue for small things. I think assortment is best! HAHAHA

I have been a long time hermafix user (tabs and dots) and have noticed my last roll of tabs were NOT as sticky as before. for embellishments, metals etc. I like glue dots.

OMG-has this post been ressurected or what!! I usually am a thread killer-LOL!!!
So two years later do ya'll want to know what I am using??? LOL
I mostly use the photo splits and sometimes an adhesive that is a herma knock off-not sure what it is called and my forever clogging glue pen!
I have also started on my second box of glue dots-love em!

I use regular old Scotch double sided tape. It is acid free, and easy to use. It is permanent, but you can usually pry it up gently and move stuff around. UnDo works on it too. It seems to be the cheapest way to go. I have a hermafix, but it seemed to run out very quickly and I always had trouble loading it (all thumbs). I also use a glue pen and Xyron for the small stuff.

HOLY COW
talk about pulling up an old thread from the past!
I must say I have used cm runner (loved it but no rep=find something else) so then I tried, zig, hermi, splits, and various others -
well I went back to CM tape runner - it really stood the test of time!

I use CM tape runner too. Haven't tried anything else so I don't have anything to compare it to.

I Love my mini tape runner. It was something I thought I would never need until one day when I needed to adhere something small and well, the sections of adhesive from the regular tape runner were to big. Got the mini and LOVE it.

Another CM girl here. And believe me I have tried just about all of them. I do use glue dots for heavy embellishments. And my trusty xyron for die cuts/sizzix letters. Pop dots for dimensional items, but I wouldn't trade my cm tape runner ( including the mini ) for anything.

Tried it all here too... I use the zig or the xyron for little things that the tape is just too big for. I used to love the tombo, but i went through them too fast, and the refills are expensive. I really like the scotch rolling thing, but it's not refillable and again, didn't last long. So, now I am trying the hermafix and zots seems to be working out better. It's funny how we get about our adhesives! Once you find what works for you, you never want to give it up :)

I use Hermfix dots & the tabs, and also the CM tape runner. I don't like the tape runner as much because it seems to bunch up a lot on me. Having said that, I also have to say it's probably user error because DD, who's 6 1/2, has no problem with it.

tigger2esq - I noticed that about my tab refill too, I thought maybe I got a bad box or something. That stinks.

An old thread, but a great resource! I use the Scotch Double Sided tape, and for small stuff or vellum, I use the Xyron Adhesive Stamper, which stamps little glue dots that can be rubbed off if you make a mistake.

I have tried so much - most are sitting in a big bicket on my shelf :rotfl:

I use my CM tape runner most of the time. Also have 2 differnt size Zyrons, 3 differnt size glue dots and I have a pen I rarely use.

But I cant scrap without my tape runner.

...but i'm a newbie so hopefully you will forgive me!

everyone seems to like the glue that is repositionable. but is it repositionable forever? or only for a few minutes?

i want to build a memory album that will last until the day i die. i don't want things to be falling out of it in a couple years. so should i use permanent glue?

thanks!

lisa

PS. what are the best PENS or MARKERS to write with on your album pages?!

excellent question. I with I knew! I will say I use to love hermifix dots, repositional but I found after time it didn't hold well and then when they merged with another company it didn't stick unless it was very light weight paper.
I have used my little zyron x with repositional and havent' had a problem. My books are maybe 4 years old. I don't think I can move it. I know some of the glue sticks are only repositional for a short time and then become perm.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the 3L EZ-Runner. This is by far my favorite adhesive, but since it can get a bit expensive, I use a combination of Ez Runner and the 3L mounting squares. For a liquid glue to use on heavier stuff, I love the Gloo by KI Memories and I would be lost without my glue dot collection... I love them all (though the new vellum ones aren't as sticky as I would like).

pintradingwedding: For writing on pages, I always recommend the Zig markers by EK Success... they are available in several colors and have 2 different size tips on them.

I too LOVE the 3L EZ Runner! The regular is so easy to use and I couldn't work without the one for Vellum. JoAnne Fabrics just had a 50% off coupon so I got 4 of them :woohoo:

I've used the CM tape runner forever and I do like it, but I have the same problem as some have said, it bunches up on the tip quite often. I liked the old photo splits, haven't tried the new ones CM came out with yet, but it is an extra step to remove the backing on each one. I like the CM photo tape for items that are large/heavy and stuff you really want to never remove, it's like super glue!

I am new to scrapping, and have been using the 3L EZ runner, and find it very easy to use. I hope I"m using enough. I put maybe half inch on each corner of the pictures. Is that enough? It seems to hold fine, but wondering if down the line, things will loosen up. Thanks

Wow... this thread is an oldie that just won't die! It started in 2000! And has been added to almost every year since.

FWIW, I go between the CM tape runner and the Herma Dotto. I prefer the CM, but I like the convenience of buying my adhesive at the store. I don't attend any CM parties or crops, so I have to call a CM rep when I want to order adhesive. .......................P
