Greetings everyone! My fiance would like to know how to best get her dress down to Florida for our wedding August 10th. How did former brides do this and how are future brides planning on it? We do have someone who lives near Orlando who we could send it to via Fed-Ex.

I was getting my gown steamed by Carolynn Allen's, and sent it about 2 weeks ahead of time down to her. It cost about 50 bucks shipping from california to florida. :)

Hi! My wedding dress was pretty much wrinkle proof. It is a replica of the Jessica Simpson dress so it was all lace with beading, sequins, etc. Very heavy and just wouldn't wrinkle. So, I decided the best option for me was to take it on the plane because it would not wrinkle and I was scared to ship it. I did have a friend attending the wedding who lives in Clearmont whom I shipped my big boxes of wedding decorations, gifts, etc. to but my dress and accessories I kept as close to me at all times as possible.
It is really going to be a matter of what you feel comfortable doing. As others have said you can definately get it steamed and I have heard nothing but good things about Carolyn Allens so I wouldn't worry about that part at all. Good luck in your decision and keep us all posted.

I am going to take mine on the plane with me so I know where it is at all times. One of my biggest fears is someone or some company loosing my dress. So as long as it is with me on the plane I will have peace of mind.

My problem is that i have been told that if i take it with me on the plane i hvae to check it into the hold. My friend did this and they lost her luggage, luckily her dress turned up the day before the wedding but it was nearly a disaster!

I took mine on as a carry on and put it in the over head bin and had my whole group watching people to make sure no one put anything on top of it. We had no problem taking it on the plane. I used Airtran. Whatever airline you use, just simply call them. Because everyone may have a different story to tell but only the airline will be able to give you the most current and official word on how to handle it. But like I said, I had no problem taking it on as a carry on without having to pay to by it a seat.

I'm flying Southwest and it's going on that plane with me. I will not let it out of my sight.

I bought a one way seat for DD (melmel's) gown. It wasn't leaving my sight. Airtran couldn't guarantee closet space & I was afraid it would get damaged in the overhead compartment. One advantage to it's having it's own seat, was it also got it's own carry-on & luggage allotment. Since a lot of the stuff that was going down, wasn't coming back(eg: Welcome Bags), we just packed that sutff in an old suitcase & left it behind in WDW. The gown came home stuffed in her new MIL's suitcase. At that point, it didn't matter how wrinkled it got.

I FedEx'ed mine and I am really glad I did. It cost me about 90 bucks b/c of how late I sent it but it had a return receipt. With all of the problems that we had getting down there (more when I start my trip report on that one) and the luggage with all the stuff we needed for 2 weeks and the wedding, it would have been one more thing that would have caused an issue. I have no regrets about the fed ex and everything turned out wonderfully!!!

I'm taking our gowns with us on the plane as carryon. I could probably cram it under my seat, if I had to, as long as the crinoline is packed in the checked luggage. Since we're having Carolyn Allen's steam the gowns, I'm not worried about wrinkling. I'm relying on the kindness of strangers, I suppose. :wizard:

I shipped my gown and DD's gown to Carolyn Allen's. I shipped on Thursday via UPS Ground and they called me from the shoppe on Monday to tell me it had arrived. Cost for two gowns from PA to Florida - $19.06. They pressed the gowns and delivered them to the Beach Club with the boy's tuxes on Saturday.
My in-laws drove down to Florida so we sent our gowns back home with them.

I carried mine on. The Delta flight we flew had a coat closet and the flight attendants let us board early and hung my dress in the closet. I did have it steamed by Carolyn Allen the morning of the wedding but it traveled very well.

I did the same thing, I flew Delta on a very small plane. They boarded me and the dress &they hung it up in the coat closet. Carolyn Allen did the steaming 2 days later but it did travel well.

We drove, and kept it in the bag from the store. It was no problem. I had a steaming appointment, and I cancelled it because it traveled so well. It was in the loaded down car with all the wedding junk too. Mom is OCD, and did take it into the hotel with us, when we stayed overnight on the way down.

Dont count on the closet onboard... we flew Delta and was assured we could hang it onboard so I had it steamed before we left.... we got there and they said no way that it had to go in the overhead compartment.... :furious: So I had to have Carolyn Allen steam it AGAIN!!! UHHH but they are great. I forgot my veil!!!! so they let me rent one :) they're great, highly recommend them for sure.

Well - I must be the only one who had my parents drive it down for me. At least I let them drive my SUV. :teeth:
