Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we're a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. Some of us are training for the 2006 Disneyland Half and for the 2007 WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news/training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Can y'all believe it's June already?

Terri... :grouphug: sorry to hear of your loss. I saw a lady at WDW this past week in a bright pink Tshirt with a very simple message..."Cancer Sucks".

Sunny...yikes...a herniated disc now too?!? :wizard: :wizard: for fast-healing. Glad you found a doc you can work with. And I LOVE the cafepress stuff!

Amy...congrats on your 5K! Sorry it wasn't a PR, but how spooky...same Bat time, same Bat number ? (sorry...showing my age, but I swear I only watched Batman in reruns ;) )

Christa...great to have you back!

Steve...congrats on the new ride! :woohoo:

Jackie...congrats on the second Garmin! I think if you're within 10 miles of DL, that obligates you to go :thumbsup2 Maybe you need to check out the course for the new half and report back to us :rolleyes1

Dena, Dana...did either of you do the Yulee run today?

Tiff...just think how nice that Mickey medal would look next to your Donald :thumbsup2 Weather at WDW actually wasn't bad after Monday. There was a reasonable breeze most days...we went back to the room from 2 to 5 for DD3 to nap and have dinner which helped miss most of the heat.

Minnie... :wizard: for your continued recovery. When will you be at WDW? My mom's birthday is July 7 so we may take her up there from the 7 to 9th but not firm yet.

Maggie...welcome back! :wizard: for that hamstring!

Kathy...welcome back! Glad you're finally able to move around again. How's the foot and the shoulder?

Dave...congrats on your race! What an amazing improvement in such a short time! :woohoo: Good luck on your next 5K!

Monica...great ride! And congrats on Bolder Boulder...that's definitely on my list of races to do some day!

We're back from WDW and trying to settle back in before returning to work on Monday :crazy2: I'm toying with the idea of doing a 5K on June 17. I did it last year and finished in 44:59...would like to see how much I may have improved.

Anyone read Health magazine? They have a new promotion called Girls on the Move, trying to get women more involved in running. Coach Jenny Hadfield is onboard and designed an 8 week Walk-to-Run program that I'm going to start on Monday. It starts from R4/W2 (just happens to be where I'm at) and ends up at R10/W1. Since I'm doubling up the training weeks again, it flows right into the start of the training for the half. I'm actually planning to use the MFM running program this year...NEVER thought I would do that!

Have a good week!

Mel,
After thinking about it, I decided not to do the Yulee Days since it was a trail run and I've never been off road before. I did do a different 5K which turned out to be torture, but fun! At 8:00am it was 86 degrees and humid with little shade. It was tough but I just kept telling myself that I was going to have fun and not worry about time. Turned out I was only 2 minutes slower than the previous one where the conditions weren't nearly as bad. And I really had fun and feel great for getting out there. :dogdance:

Thanks for asking!

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick post for right now -- sorry, I kind of dropped out of sight last week. A lot had been going on with my husband's family and I really wanted to be there for him;his father has been going in and out of the hospital, and as of yesterday had to check into the hospital (he will probably be in there at least through Monday).

I am embarrassed to say that I haven't really gotten any running in since last Sunday :guilty: . I hope to turn that around this week :thumbsup2 .

I will be checking in with all of you during the day -- my hope is to start running again tomorrow.

Happy Birthday to you mom - my mom's birthday in on July 19th :cool1:

We will be in Florida from July 8 to July 15th.

Right now we have reservations at the YC for 11th to 15th and havent been able to book anything else that we want yet. We've even tried renting DVC points and everything is booked pretty solid.

So we really do not know what we are going to do yet for the 8 to 10. We have APs that are expiring after this trip so I really want to do a whole week at WDW but at this point we don't know yet.

I'm not Mel but I started my report on the Trip Report Board from our Mother's Day/Flower Show Trip.

BTW - I did my "where we ate" part on the restaurant board a couple weeks ago. See a "Picky Eaters Review" or something like that for it.

Well I finally hit the pavement again! I haven't done any wogging since the Minnie and it felt great. It was great seeing the pavement ahead of me. I only did 2 miles but by 9:15 boy was it hot.

Mel-thanks for the info on Health magazine. I may have to look into that.

Jodi- :wizard: for DH & his family. Do not be embarassed about not getting out there, family comes first :grouphug:

Minnie-keep trying on the reservations. I had trouble getting what I wanted for next week, just kept checking back & they finally had what I needed.

Terri-So sorry for your loss :grouphug:

Have a relaxing Sunday everyone!

We just got back from Sunapee. Chad & I decided to go out and do 2 or 3 miles before it got dark. We both were exhausted during the first mile and stopped at 1! I wonder if we are coming down with something - I've been exhausted all weekend, even with naps!

I'll try to hit the pavement tomorrow and get a good night's rest tonight.

Or maybe just that it was dreary and rained most of the stinking weekend in NH. That's often nap inducing.

Just a quick check in.
PD for the people w/ injuries(Sunny, Steven, Minnie....) and family troubles(Jodi, Terri....) :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

I did the Mooseman Half Ironman around Newfound Lake in NH today. Will do race report after the official results are posted. Finished a little slower than the FL/Disney 70.3 2 weeks because I tanked the bike. My bike split was almost 18 minutes slower than FL(it might have been a BIT hillier) but I had a good(for me) swim and ran a 2:09 half marathon off the bike which I was pleased with. The second mile was 16 minutes due to a prolonged porta pottie stop. Only one lady in front of me but I swear she read a book or something during her turn. So I managed to negative split the run. Really suprised me because I felt soooo bad for the first three miles.

A link that includes some interesting info about the race I did today(and another I'm doing in August and oh yeah, a comparison to one I did in 2002 and 2003 and plan on again in 2007). Sunny, are you still considering doing the Timberman sprint? It probably depends on how your back heals though:(

Thanks everyone for the :grouphug: and :wizard: . My aunt's funeral is on Thursday. The hard part will be getting my Mom through it.

I went out for a run/walk tonight (1st one all week). I did 4 miles and was hoping to negative split the last two. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. The return portion was mostly uphill and I walked a lot of it. Have I ever said I HATE HILLS! :)

My total time was 57:45. I happy that I was still ahead of the sweeper time.
I finished the 1st 2 miles in 28:08. But it took 29:37 on the return.

Lynn - Congrats on your race. I can only dream of a 2 hour 1/2 marathon :teeth:

Did anyone see the July edition of Runners World? John Bingham has an article in there about this year's Inaugural Goofy Challenge. He talks about feeling lousy during and after the 1/2 and worrying how he would handle the full. He says he felt great during the full and it turned out to be a satisfying day. In talking about people exceeding their limits I liked his last line: "You can't finish if you don't start."

Another drive by post, but I don't want to slip out of the habit of checking in here. I have been a bit slack on training lately so I really need to be here to stay motivated.

Mel, the "noodlers" are definitely back in the pool! I haven't been there much though because I like to swim when they go home to make dinner. That's when the afternoon thunderstorms have been rolling in.

Dave, your improvement since Jan is awesome!

Jodi, Terri, PD for you and your families. :tinker:

Sunny, hope your disc heals quickly.

Lynne, great job on the Mooseman!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Well, I really did it this time. I think Lily's message to me last week to not overdo it was very prophetic. I had my 5K yesterday which was the culminating event of my AP Learn to Run 12 week training program. It was a cold, drizzly, rainy day - good for running. I was happy with my time - 29:44 min for 9:35 mpm pace. This was the 2nd race in a week and I ran ~9:30 mpm for both of them. Yay!

So because this was the final event for my Fleet Feet learn to run group. I wanted to really see what I could do. I wanted to see if I could run 9 min miles for the 5K. I paired up with a woman from our group who I knew ran around 8 min miles, and thought I would start with her to get me to go a little faster than I usually start out. I'm looking at my Garmin now and see my split for the first mile was 8:21 min. Hmmm, that was faster than I wanted to go. Then it hit me... shin pain was back! My shins were bothering me before the run started, but hey, they always do and usually it goes away. This time the shin pain did not go away.

My right shin was really killing me, but I kept going. Mile 2 was in 9:58 mpm pace, but it was uphill so that wasn't so bad. By Mile 3 I was really hurting. The 3rd mile I ran in 10:22 mpm, but I don't know how I kept that up. Here's the funny thing. Who's standing at the 3rd mile marker cheering on runners? My physical therapist who has been working with me. He sees me and says "Now I know why you've been coming to see me." I laugh and call back "Yeah, so when can I come in again?" He goes, "tomorrow!" Turns out I am already scheduled to see my orthopaedist today at 2:45p. I need it because when I finished the race, I was limping. My right shin is killing me. I iced it 3-4x yesterday for 20 min a pop. I took Allieve and Motrin, and the pain hasn't gone away. I can't really put any weight on my leg, and when we were going to bed my DW said "your lower leg and foot has really swelled up."

Uuugh, I think I have a stress fracture. Shoot! To be honest, maybe it's not so bad. I've been dealing with shin pain all along since January. Maybe if I finally have a stress fracture, I can get it healed up and move on to run pain free. I don't know... :confused3 I am worried about how this is going to affect my training for WDW. Crap, I just turned in my money for the full too. Uuugh... my neighbors saw me and said, "So I guess this will end your running, right?"

:guilty: Dave!! Oh no....I sure hope everything is ok. Don't throw in the towel....you don't have to start training for the full until August or Sept....you have plenty of time to heal! Just take care of yourself now and try to stay positive about the running. I know it's hard when you're staring an injury in the face, but remember it's only June!!! :grouphug: Best of luck and report back after you see the doctor today.

Terri: :grouphug: So sorry to hear about your Aunt. :sad2: I will be thinking about you and your mom.

Sunny: :guilty: Sorry to hear about your back. Wow, it's been such a tough few months for you. Heal up and follow doctors orders...you'll be back to training in no time.

Jodi: :sad2: Pixie Dust for your fil....very stressful. I sure hope he's doing ok today. If you're able to get out there running today...good luck!!!

No way will this end your running! You will show them! Some people. :furious: As others have said, you do not have to start training for WDW until August or September. Take it easy and get better soon. :wizard:

It was back to the gym this morning for me. My official training for the DL 1/2 starts next Monday, but I decided to start early. I did 45 minutes of run3/walk2. It really felt effortless. I can feel myself getting stronger every workout, and that makes me feel great. :)

Here is the link if you would like to see my Beach to Bay Relay Marathon photo: www.brightroom.com/stf.asp?EVENTID=12457&PWD=&ID=23580672

Speaking of the latest edition of Runner's World, there was an article in there about a web site that allows you to map your route and get accurate mileage calculations. It is very easy to use, and you can save your route information for others to use. For those who travel a lot, you can use it to find running routes in practically any location. Too cool. For those without garmins, you can map out a route around your town and calculate the exact distance. Here is the link for that: www.usatf.com/routes

Good morning all!!!

Dena-- Great job!!! :thumbsup2 See, all it takes is geting back out there!

Terry and Jodi-- Much PD headed your way for your family issues. Terri, so sorry to hear of your loss.

Lynne-- Great job with the tri!!!! A 2:09 half marathon is fantastic if you are just running it by itself, let alone after all that swimming and biking!! Wonderful job!!

Dave-- Sorry to hear about your shin pain. I think you might be right though, if it can be diagnosed then at least you know what's causing it and it'll give you time enough to heal before really training hard for the full. When I first started running I had some pretty bad shin pain myself, so I understand where you are coming from.

I completely tanked this weekend. :guilty: I just don't know where this is coming from... I start off gangbusters on Monday and Tuesday and then by the weekend I am lucky if I get anything in. I need a swift kick in the rear or something :) I have a 5K in 2.5 weeks that I feel totally unprepared for and then next thing you know it'll be August 22nd-- the big 20 weeks out mark. Time to get my rear in gear :)

I hope everyone had a more successful training weekend than I did.

Well, I didn't run the Yulee run either. I spent the weekend painting the walls in the new house. I can't wait to get moved in this weekend, and take some pictures of the rooms for you guys. I have been trying to get as much running in as possible. I missed my long run saturday because I had to paint, and I missed my run this morning because I hurt like he** from all the painting I did this weekend!! I am going to pick back up on Wednesday where I left off. At least I hope!! I will try to keep in touch as much as possible during the move.

UGGHHH!! I feel SO out of the loop :confused3 I have been less-than-a-lurker since I dropped my home laptop and have had no internet access. I am hoping to get that issue resolved soon!!

First off, to all of those suffering with injuries, :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: . I really hope you guys are back on the roads real soon.

Terri - So sorry for your loss.

Jodi - Family comes first. I'll keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

TiffJ - Have you comitted to the full yet?! You GO girl!! :cheer2:

Heather - Loved the pics. Glad you're training is going so well.

Kevin - Sometime a little rest does you good. Just listen to your body.

I am sorry for anyone I missed and I will try to keep up with you all this week. I ran the Freihofer's Run For Women 5k in the POURING RAIN this past Saturday. I agreed to run it with a good friend who is just getting back into the sport. We had fun, despite the rain!!

Happy training to all this week and best of luck meeting goals.

Well, here's some advice for all of you.

Don't take me out to Sunday brunch, give me a glass of wine, and start talking about the marathon.

That's what happened yesterday. And I think I was a bit loud.

Poor DH. It's a good thing he thinks I'm cute. :goodvibes I have zero tolerance for alcohol so one half a glass of wine and I'm tipsy. So, he was completely understanding when I went off on my sweepers tirade. "I will NOT get swept! I am serious about this. No, no, you don't understand. They will take me off that course IN AN AMBULANCE before I get picked up by the sweepers bus! I MEAN IT! Either I finish or I drop but I WILL NOT GET SWEPT!!!! Not after all this, I'm not getting up at 4:30am EVERY DAY to train and fly all the way to Florida just so I get swept off the course. IT WON'T HAPPEN! " The people at the next table looked at me, then looked at him. I think they felt sorry for him.

However, I do think I made my point.

Having said all that, I trained Sat and this morning, totally missing my LW yesterday, probably due to the wine. But today both my knees hurt. I had to ice them after my walk this morning. I really have to get some new running shoes.

Sunny - Oh my goodness, you poor thing. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: . Come on, get better fast. I need you! (How totally selfish is that???)

Mel - Thanks for the hint about Health magazine. :thumbsup2 I'm going to buy it.

Minnie - I hope you are feeling better today. :wizard: Hey, we are staying at the YC in...what does it say down there? 96 days or so. I've never even seen the YC so for me this will be like a whole new side to WDW. You'll have to let us know how you liked it.

Jodi - :wizard: for DH and his family. And you. And don't worry, it's OK to take a break. Sometimes other things come first.

Terri - :wizard: and :grouphug:

Dave - Oh no! :wizard: for your shins! And a big razz to your knucklehead neighbor! :furious:

Kevin - Here's a virtual kick in the can! :teeth:

OK OK, I'll do some real work now.... :surfweb:

Hang in there Dave! :wizard: :wizard:

After the Goofy, I had shin splints in my right leg so bad that I was on crutches for 3 days. My leg was red and swollen. But keeping the weight off it really helped. I had it x-rayed because I thought I might have a stress fracture too (lovely way to spend my WDW time  ).

Good luck!

Thanks for the PD everyone. I just got back from the orthopaedist. I got an x-ray and was evaluated. He says it seems like a severe shin splint, and there is no sign of a stress fracture on the x-ray. I guess because I could hop up and down on the heel of my "bad" leg without it bothering me also indicates its not a stress fracture. He said cross train, up the anti-inflammatories, and keep on icing, and see how it goes. :confused3 I guess that's better than a stress fracture.

STONKER!
I feel totally out of shape now. I tried the first day of Coach Jenny's training 2 run program. I made it through exactly two 4-minute running intervals before I gave it up and walked the rest. It's just too hot!

Dave... :wizard: for your shin! Glad it wasn't a fracture.

Judy...let me buy you a drink :drinking1 ...now tell us how you feel about the marathon :teeth: BTW, you don't have to buy Health...all the Girls on the Move stuff is on their website http://www.health.com.

Sara...congrats on your rainy 5K!

Dana...can't wait to see your pictures!

Heather...great photos!

Kevin... :wizard: for getting back in the mood. I've been out of training mode since the Minnie. Just too hot this year!

Dave- I'm so sorry to hear of your severe splints. I think we are just about ready to start a "side-lined for a bit" thread. I'd be posting about every 5 minutes!

Heather-- that is definitely an 8x10 order MUST! What a fab pic!

When my new RW arrived on Thursday I threw it across the room and cried my eyes out. :sad1:

Dx drove me to and from work today. I hoisted my keyboard and mouse up on boxes and stood the entire time. Then DD drove me to the Y and I swam and did elliptical. Being in the pool felt wonderful. I wish I could just float until this thing heals.

I signed DD and myself up for the mother/daughter Iron Girl (Ryka) 5K on July 9th. I won't do it if the dr says no, but I'm going to explain to him just how really, really important and significant this race is...

I might be healing, but I think I'm just getting more skilled on rising from a seated or laying down position with minimal screaming. I definitely can't drive yet. :furious:

And the guns are nothing more than sacks of jello :sad2: Oh my pride has taken a terrible fall...

Sunny- I know it is frustrating for you but dont mess around with your back. I used to have bad sciatica and it can really be debilitating (sp?) and so hard to just lie there when the rest of you feel perfectly fine. If it wasn't for my awesome chiropractor I would probably still be lying on the couch crying when I had to get up to go potty. I hope you can do your 5k but please dont be so hard on yourself. :grouphug:

Judy- all I can say is :rotfl2: :lmao: You are so funny girl! I get pretty loud when I have too much "adult beverage" too and my DH is a quiet guy, so I have embarrased him on a number of occasions (and not always when I was drinking :teeth: ) But I know what you mean. I was so determined that I was not going to go through all this and be put on that stupid bus. I would have liked to see them try to pick me up & put me on it. I just envisioned me right in front of that sweeper bus outrunning it and refusing to get on

Heather-that is a great race pic!

Mel-yep, that southern humidity is killer! :sunny: :wizard: for some better training weather.

Sara-no I haven't committed yet. I'm going to have to think on it a while. I really want the accomplishment, but not sure if I should wait until 2008 & do the Danskin tri in 2007. Tough decision! Glad you had fun in your race :Pinkbounc

Dana-painting is definately xt!!!

Dave- :grouphug: Just listen to your DR. And did you look at your neighbor like he was crazy & say "of course not" just a forced break for a bit! It has been inspiring to see how far you have come in such a short amount of time. Don't worry, you'll be back at it soon (just not too much too soon) and you do have until Aug before your structured training begins so now is just the time to work the kinks out.

I xt by going to VBS meetings, taking kids to DR & running around town. I'm going to try & wog before DH goes to work in the morning. Did I mention I leave in 3 days for WDW :cool1:

Hello all! Just setting (or is it sitting? :teeth: ) here with a mud mask on my face waiting for clothes to get dy so I can put the wet clothes in the dryer b/4 I go to bed....LONG .....

So many :wizard: :wizard: To everyone who is hurt...Sunny, Dave, ect...

Dave - Do you need me to show up as the Evil Queen for your neighbor? OUT OF CONTROL!

Judy - Your story had me :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: ! I am naturally (Sp?) loud. I would hate to see me with even a sip of anything....

Heather - GIRL! You look WONDERFUL! Love the pic! Hope you order one.

Mel - I am with you on the runs getting harder. My 10 miler felt like I was running in slow motion on Friday. It was so hot...I was so wet that my clothes were dripping. :crazy2:

Keven - I am the sam e way! I hit it hard the 1st of the week and then get more slack on training as the week goes on. I don't know about you, but work, kids, workingout, ect...catches up with me and I just have to drop something.....Cannot drop kids or work so the workouts suffer! I think we all need to go to the beach! :beach:

Went swimming today...sis and I swam together. at the end we "raced 2 lengths of the pool. A tie..we even swim the same pace.

Oh ...my laundry is done, gotta go!

Just a quick note!

Sunny - I know it's frustrating, but please, please take it easy & do what the doctor tells you to do (or not do)! :wizard:

Dave - take care of those shins! :wizard:

Judy - you are a riot! :rotfl: I am going to find you at the WDW half to keep me entertained! :teeth:

So, I didn't do anything again yesterday...wait, yes I did. Somehow I didn't have time to exercise, but miraculously I had time to put 3 coats of nail polish on my toes. ;) I really, truly need a kick in the pants! :cool1: (this guy could look like he's kicking me!)

BUT, I did read "The Courage To Start." I already did that 15k, but I still enjoyed the book. I bought it for a friend at WW who is having trouble getting started on any exercise (and I am trying to get her to sign up for a race with me). When the book came in, I was thumbing through it. Then I decided I had to read it. Think she'll mind a used gift?! :rolleyes1 :teeth:

Morning all!!!

Sunny-- :grouphug: Poor thing. It must be tough being out of commission. Although I did think immediately of you when I got my issue yesterday-- "Five Things you (and your doctor) should know about Runner's Bodies" Glad to hear that the pool is working for you while you are off the roads.

Judy-- :rotfl: :rotfl: That's a great story. It's also a really good attitude to have. :thumbsup2

Dave-- Glad to hear things are not more serious. Hopefully with some rest and crosstraining things will improve significantly.

Krista-- See, that's just the thing... I've been spending entirely too much time at the beach. :beach:

Ok, so yesterday I found some motivation and had a fairly decent crosstraining day. I am really beginning to enjoy hitting the weights far more than I ever have before. I also did 25 minutes of the Stepmill afterwards, which was most certainly sweat-inducing.

This morning, I actually got up and RAN 2.5 miles. :cool1: I averaged about 9:15/mile pace for the whole thing. I might have been a touch faster, but an overly friendly dauchsund started following me on one of my walk segments and I didn't want him/her to get too far from home. I'm supposed to go five miles tomorrow morning, so I'm glad that this morning went so well.

In other news, now that work is slowing down, I find myself in complete vacation planning overload. :teeth: I leave for Toronto in two weeks and need to figure out what the heck we are going to do while there, I need to figure out what I want to do about possibly doing a quickie WDW trip in October, shortly after I get back from T.O., my 180 days dining window opens up for the marathon trip  and my roomate has started asking a bunch of questions about the cruise..... which isn't for another year and a half!!! Well, it sure beats work :teeth:

Happy training all!

Good morning all! :coffee:

I updated the list of who's doing Disney. An impressive number of us are going! This will be so much fun!

An OK training session this morning. My knees are really acting up. A silly thing but I think I need new barn shoes. The shoes I wear to do chores are pretty worn out and I'm in them a minimum of three hours a day. So today I will order a new pair. And gets some new running shoes. Maybe this weekend. And work on losing some of this excess baggage I am carrying around. Perhaps all those things will give my knees a break and they'll stop complaining so much.

So I did 48 min @ 3.8 @ 1% with only 2 min running @ 4.5.

Dave - Oh no! But perhaps you are right, it's better then a fracture. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: I hope you have a good ice maker in your freezer.

Mel - Oh Mel please! Keep it down! My head...oh my head.....ha ha ha! :lmao: Not really. Thanks for the Health site! :thumbsup2 I'm bookmaking that one!

Sunny - Oh Sunny....my heart goes out to you. :grouphug: I feel awful. I teared up when you wrote about throwing RW across the room. I feel so badly for you. This is so unfair. :sad2:

Tiffany - I know, I know, just keep me away from the adult beverages. Oh you leave in three days? I am positively green with envy! :cheer2:

Christa - What a multi-tasker you are! Mud mask and laundry and posting! Very talented! :yay:

Kristi - Glad I could keep you entertained! :teeth: I'm sure your toes look adorable.

Kevin - Well, if there's one thing I have in my favor as I train for the Half, it's determination! :thumbsup2 Ohh thanks for the reminder about the 180 from the marathon. Geez, I didn't even think about ADRs for that long weekend.

I miss Cam..... :guilty:

Oh my, so behind again and no time to catch up with everyone.

jodi & Terri - & :wizard:

Sunny - Hang in there! I know this mus be killing you!!!!!! :wizard:

Tiff - Go for the full!!!!!!

I did 3 miles on Firday. Dh and I have decided that we wil do 3 miles for our SRs until teh real training begins. Doing a mileage instead of a distance will give us (ok, me) a little incentive to go fast. Lazxy me has this mental block about going fast when you are running a timed run. NO matter how fast I go, not gonna' finish sooner, so why bother? I'm so bad. Anyway, hopefully, this will inspire me a bit more for SRs. WIth our pace, it's just over 30 min. Howpefully, we'll break that 30 minute mark soon.

I blew off Saturday for various reasons. Hope to get out agian tonight, but dh went ot work with a headache, so it's not looking good for him tonight. I need more incentive to get out there on my own. Very tired today.

OK, back to check shirt orders and tehn to work.

Speaking of shirt orders..... Don't forget! June 11 is the Shirt Order Deadline. The link to order is in my sig!!

Hello everyone!!!! Sorry I've been gone for a while, but the boards are my accountability--if I don't work out, that means I can't post. Soooo, since I haven't been on here for a while, I think you can figure the rest out! :p Hines and I ran/walked 30 minutes last night, we did 2/2 intervals--still babying the knee and we did 2.6 miles. I have a funny Hines story that I think you guys will appreciate. Sunday night Hines swallowed one of Stephen's socks, if we catch him in time, he will let us dig it out of his mouth, but by the time Stephen got to him, it was already gone. When I left for work Monday morning, the sock had not surfaced, I got home about 6:00 and still no sock--I was worried that I would have to make a call to the vet. Last night about 25 minutes into our run, Hines stopped in mid-stride and started gagging and threw up the sock in the middle of street!!! When he was finished, Hines gave me a big smile and started wagging his tail! :dogdance: I didn't know what to with the throw up and the sock, so we left it, when I drove to work this morning, I saw it still in the street.

Sunny-- :wizard: :wizard: for your back!!!! I am so sad for you! Just think, it's a good thing your body is rebeling now and not in November! Get some rest!

Jodi and Terri-- :grouphug: :grouphug:

Christa--This :laundy: is for you! You make me tired!!!

Dave-- :grouphug: and your neighbor makes me :furious: . Make sure you take over your Mickey medal in January and show them what a real athlete looks like!

I'd love to talk to everyone else, but I've been gone for a while and I missed a lot!!!! I promise I'll be more diligent about running so I can play more!

Dave

I have a story and a question for you.

The story

In my daughter's first year of really competitive athletics, she was an attacker on the freshman lacrosse team in high school They ran their butts off all spring, and she began to develop shin pain. The pain got worse and worse, to the point that one game she stepped out for warm ups with a tape job from foot to just below the knee, trying to take the pressure off the shin. As the season went on it continued to get worse, to the point we considered sitting her down for the rest of the season. I suspect she would have reacted negatively ("pitched a fit") to this idea, so we let her play it out, thinking if it was a stress fracture which displaced, well she was young and it would heal over the summer.

After this season I spoke with our College's athletic trainer, discussed her problems, and he recommended a high quality sports podiatrist in the Boston area, a guy who works with athletes at all levels, from pros to folks like us. We got in to see him and he fitted my daughter with soft orthotics, custom contoured and made for her foot, strike, etc.

After some time to heal, doing the ice, stretch, lift, etc, she was back on the field, and has had absolutely ZERO troubles ever since. Her College LAX coach is one of the "fitness" coaches ("we'll be the the fittest team on our schedule"), so they run a ton all spring and fall, on the roads, on our hard indoor track, on the grass, and on our fairly hard artificial turf.

So we've had great success with soft orthotics. Lesley has been able to play lacrosse through high school and now college with no troubles at all, due entirely to the orthotics. This also has been the experience for my wife, who similarly had bad shin issues when she was training for her first Disney half, and then had no trouble at all.

The question

What type of inserts are you running in? The regular cheapies the shoes come with, something a bit better, or customs. I suspect you could get huge relief with them.

And, it looks like I'll need to go this way as well. On April 30 I tore up my left calf, AGAIN, on a 10K. Our trainer has me in rehab and he told me my arches were so high that when I strike I really drive my foot into the ground, and the shock ripples up the legs, causing my calf damage. He wants me to go for the custom soft orthotics, so I'll be joining my ladies, and perhaps you as well.

Good luck and take care. It is absolutely not too late to salvage the Disney marathon. Right now I can't even run 3 miles, but I'm sure I'll be ready on January 7.

Craig Craig- It's great to hear from you. I've been wearing the "blue Superfeet" inserts in my shoes instead of the inserts that come with the shoe.

That's very interesting that you mention orthotics. When I first went to the orthopaedist in April, he recommended getting orthotics. Not the full blown $300 custom orthotics, but this new $40 orthotic - is that the "soft orthotic" you mention? Anyhow, when I went over to the PT to get the orthotics fitted he spent nearly 2 hours with me, checking me out, doing evaluations, and we came up with a plan for stretching and strengthening to help the shins. He thought it might be worth trying this route before going the orthotic route. When I went to the orthopaedist yesterday, he asked if I ever got the fitted orthotics again. Maybe it's time I push the PT to get the orthotics.

Thanks for the advice.

I think Craig may be on to something here. I am getting the full meal deal orthotics in 10 days! I was fitted last week. They were actually covered by my insurance plan, be sure to check that out too. The pod. told me that the first week I wear them I will hate them and him  . The second week the discomfort will be a lot less :guilty: and by the fourth week, I will be loving them :dance3: . I sure hope so. I am depending on these to get me to Disney on Jan. 7th too. :yay: (That and a lot more weight training.)

Hi, guys! I have been totally out of the loop (read: no training) while we prepared for and threw the after prom, and then the very busy graduation weekend.

Sunny and Dave -- I'm sorry you are both struggling with health issues. Here is some pixiedust: for you!

Judy -- How hysterical! I know what you mean about adult beverages. I ended up dancing the night away Friday night, courtesy of a malibu rum and diet coke! :teeth:

Glad to hear everyone is getting in some training and events. Lynne -- you never cease to amaze me kiddo! You are a dynamo!

Well, I am so outrageously swamped. Just wanted to pop in and share some pix real quick (still trying to get caught up after 3 days out of the office):

Cam - I LOVE your pics. You and your DD are so beautiful! Glad you are doing well!

Minnie - I LOVE THE BEACH CLUB! :cheer2: :cloud9:

Craig - I was wondering where you were! Glad to hear from you.

aladdinsgirl - LOVE the dog story! I can so understand.

Just finished yard work....Worked in the natural area. Why are natural areas so hard to keep natural? :confused3
Anyway...I am trying to figure out when I can run or bike today. DH will be home late today and I could not drag my lazy butt out of bed this morning early enough to run. It is funny that during the school year I get up btwn 0500 and 0530.....Now that it is Summer break, 0600 seems SO EARLY! I am having a pity party for myself though, b/c I have NOONE to train with! I do all my LRs and SRs and biking and most of the swimming alone. All the short WOs are not to bad, but 11+ miles alone gets boring. I hate listening to the IPOD, but I think I am going to have to give in after 10 miles. WAh, WAH! :sad2: Why di Bree have to get preg??? Wah, Wah :sad2: ...Does anyone feel sorry for me? :confused3

Awesome pics Cam!

Okay- just to let you all know- by Disney counting it is now exactly 7 months until the Half Marathon as I was able to book the first 5 nights of that trip today and then will call Member Services back on Friday and book the last two. Right now, the plan is come in January 1st and stay until January 8th. I'm booking a 2 bedroom villa at OKW so I can sleep as late as possible for the marathon on Sunday and walk to the start like I did this year. Oh yeah- that whirlpool will be nice too :teeth:

So I've paid my money for the entries and booked most of that stay. Guess I'm going to be doing something Goofy next January.

I counted it out for Mom though and the 20 weeks to train for the marathon doesn't start until late August so don't anyone panic yet. You've got plenty of time to get yourselves healed- do it right now so you're not struggling this Fall.

Lynne - I meant to say something in my last post - you absolutely amaze me with all the races you do! What inspiration to a newbie like me! :worship:

Cam - what a great looking family!

Christa - I am the opposite. I love being out there alone! Chad & I always get into a fight when he wants to run with me. I don't like to talk while exercising, and all he wants to do is talk. Sometimes, I swear he's a woman! :rotfl:

I did get home and manage to go out for 2 miles before Chad left for work (2nd shift). I did have an agenda though...

There's this weird guy that parks his car on the street directly across from our house, in between 2 houses. I usually don't see him arrive, but when he comes back, he does so walking up our road from the main road (we are 3 houses in). He gets in his car & leaves. He usually leaves by 3-3:30pm. Last night I was leaving when he was. I was able to jot down his license plate number. I forgot something, so I then went around our loop back home and he was coming the other way. He passed me - he was taking the extremely long way out of our neighborhood onto the previously mentioned main road.

What bugs me most about this is we are less than one mile from 2 elementary schools. He could be parking here and doing God knows what there. Maybe I've seen too many of those Predator shows on TV lately... My friend thinks maybe he is having an affair with someone and doesn't want his car at that house. In any case, I can't come up with a legitimate reason for him doing what he's been doing.

ANYWHO - at least my busy-body-ness made me go out today and put 2 miles in. I went over by one of the schools to check things out - a route I never go unless it's a real long run. :magnify:

Jodi - Wondered where you'd been... hope your FIL is okay - know it's tough trying to run with all that going on, but the roads will be there when you're ready!

Terri - More :grouphug:

Dave - TAKE IT EASY!!!! And I'm really curious to know if the orthotics make a difference if you go that route. I'm trying to decide what to do between today and Saturday's 5K since my shin is still a little sore, so I read your post with lots of sympathy!

Mel - I've firmly decided that I will not run unless the temp is 82 or below!

Krista - GREAT sock story! I would have left it too!

Cam - Great pictures. Look like you survived! Welcome back.

I'm pretending to run tonight - the mind wants to run, but the shin just refuses to agree, so I'm listening to the body. Guess maybe it will be the bike...

Cam: THANK YOU for sharing pictures! Your daughter looked stunning in her prom gown. And congrats to her on graduating!!! What a wonderful weekend..you must be so proud!!

Krista: Glad Hines is ok...but my goodness...how funny that it came up right in the street lol. Don't blame you at all for not picking it up LOL.

Kristi: WTG on the detective work. Have to say that is creepy!!!!

Today I got out there and ran 4 miles in about 42 minutes. Tomorrow will be another day of KBX :). Two weeks before the big 5 Mile Trail run...a little nervous about that one but at least I'm running it with SIL...we've decided that we are clearly doing it for "fun". No pressure LOL! Besides...we were told there is a cool prize for the final finisher. So....we've got nothing to lose LOL!

Both Martha and Lesley are running in the full blown, expensive custom orthotics, and I suspect I'll be doing the same soon. Unfortunately unlike Colleen, our medical plan doesn't cover them, so it's all out of pocket. Ouch.

When I gulp at the cost I compare it to being unable to run, and that quickly ends the internal argument.

Good luck.

Hi Everyone  ,

Sorry I've been away for awhile. Today, I ran 3 miles on the Threadmill --- Didn't get to do it last night. I might have to go to the foot doctor, my foot still doesn't feel back to 100% .....I just don't feel like I have enough of support or something (although, it could be all in my head -- to be totally honest) that and I have the reoccurance of athelete's foot.....just not totally sure, when I will be able to get to the doctor.

Things have improved with FIL, he's home now - although had to go for a check up on Friday.

Guess what?, my hubby has gotten the bug --- he's all signed up for a 5k also. Although, his isn't until October. I might sign up for another at the end of the month (although, I orginally wanted to do the half marathon).

I still have to catch up on many of the posts from this week -- I will do my best :goodvibes

Have a great day tomorrow everyone!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Thanks again everyone for the PD :wizard:, hugs :grouphug:, and support.

Yesterday, I went to the fitness center. I rode the recumbent bike for 20 min. My plan was to just get my muscles warmed up and then stretch. I figured stretching would be good for me right? My PT was saying one of the reasons I get the shin splints is because of tight calf muscles. So I figured I would just warm up, stretch, and that would be good. The bike riding was fine. Nothing like sitting in a recliner and exercising... I then limped over to where I was going to stretch. Did some wall pushes to stretch out my left calf, then tried to do the same on the right. It felt like someone was sticking a knife in my lower leg. Oooooh, it really hurt. I sat down to stretch out my hamstrings, and I noticed my right shin was really swollen. It was puffy, swollen, and sore. Uuugh, that must have happened from riding the bike. What the heck???

I bumped up my PT appointment. I was supposed to go next week, but instead I am seeing him today at 3:45p. I hope he can help.

Good morning team!! I'm posting, so I that means that I ran last night. Hines and I again did 30 minutes (he's a great training partner), we did 2.62 miles--so a little quicker than Monday. I think I'm going to continue to do 30 minutes 2/2 intervals for another week and then bump it up to more running less walking. Oh good news, I didn't wear my IT band last night and no knee pain!!  It was so hot last night and I was having to stop and adjust the band every couple of minutes. After about a mile, I finally just took the dumb thing off and carried it, I was prepared to stop if I felt ANY knee pain, I didn't need to stop. :thumbsup2 Oh, sock update: the sock was still there in the street, when we passed it, Hines tried to stop and sniff it, but I pulled his leash to get him away from the evidence. :rotfl:

Dave-- :grouphug: :wizard: :grouphug: good luck with your PT appointment!

Jodi--Yay that DH is catching the bug!! You just reminded me, I haven't planned out my summer 5K schedule yet. Good luck with your foot. Do you think maybe it's your shoes?

Carrie--I hear ya! It is SO hard to get motivated, especially because I know I don't HAVE to start training until the end of August. :teeth: So I think I'm just going to do 30 minute runs like 3 times a week and maybe 4-5 miles on the weekend, that's not too time consuming. By the way, I read the thread, so I keep up with everyone, I just don't post.

Tiff--You're going to WDW this weekend? Is there a green with envy smiley face somewhere? Stephen and I are headed to Washington DC for his sister's wedding on Friday. I'm excited, I haven't been to DC since I was 7, so I don't really remember much, but WDW definitely trumps DC any day! Good luck with VBS, I normally teach, so I know how hectic it's going to be.

Cam--Awesome pictures! Your daughter is beautiful, she looks just like you!

Minnie--You are going to LOVE the Beach Club!! I love the whole Epcot resort area, it's definitely my favorite corner of the world.

Craig--Glad to see you back!!

Kristi--How creepy!! I don't like when I see people in our neighborhood who I know don't belong there. Makes me thankful that Hines has a very big bark and isn't afraid to use it!

Sunny--I hope you continue to feel better! How are feeling today?

Lynne--Are you going GOOFY!!!! :dance3:

I'd love to stay and chat longer, but work calls. I doubt I'll run tonight, it's supposed to rain and I need to clean the house and start packing for DC, but regardless I'll check in and see how everyone is doing. 7 months from right this second (8:32 am), I'll be running my first full marathon!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Speaking of RW....Got mine yesterday and they have a wonderful tri training plan in it. However, I don't know about getting clip on shoes until a person is more sure on the bike....

Dave - :wizard: :wizard: :grouphug: for your PT today.

Sunny - I just hate this for you! Glad you are feeling a little better. :grouphug:

Jodi - Glad to hear from you! :grouphug: to you too! WTG on the dreadmill running! :rotfl:

AmyBeth - You will do great on your trail run! Have fun! :Pinkbounc

Kristi - GIRL! You sound like me! I know I watch too much CSI! :happytv: I think everyone is trying to commit a crime. I am glad I sometimes run with CMPD members! :magnify: Also like you, I do like to run alone sometimes...but after 11+ miles, I start to get board b/c I normally don't listen to my IPOD. :rolleyes1

I whined and cried to Ron (the person who trained me for my 1st marathon and tri) and he invited me to join a group down town to run today! :Pinkbounc We started at 0600 and did 8 miles at about a 9 MPM. We started out at about a 8 mpm pace for the 1st few miles, but then (THANK GOD) traffic slowed us down. We would stop, go, stop, go, stop, go.... but IT WAS WONDERFUL! Whining does sometimes get you what you want! :lmao: :teeth:

Christa, 8mpm, you are doing so well! It is amazing how well running has come along over the years.

OK, Goofy is 90% full, it is killing me!!! I really don't know what to do. I wish I had a crystal ball to see into the future. To be honest, I don't know how important the Goofy medal is to me. Is a full marathon PR more important?? :confused3 I don't know. I know I would have no problem running/walking Goofy, or do I register for the full to better last year's marathon time? All you Goofy people from last year, what are your feelings now that you are finished? Was it worth it? I realize it is just a one time thing.

Dave- REST your shins. That means no biking, no running, no walking. Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation (RICE). Here's PD that you heal quickly. :wizard:

Minnie- Woo Hoo on the BC! I am so glad that you were able to get what you wanted. You will truly have a magical vacation.

Krista- Love the sock story. Maybe you could sneak out there when no one is looking and pick it up with a plastic grocery sack. That way you wouldn't have to touch it. Doesn't Steven want his sock back? :lmao:

Cam- You look absolutely fantastic! You have such a beautiful family. I am glad that everything went well with prom, after prom, and graduation. Did I miss the news about college? Did DD get in to the school she wanted?

Welcome back from lurker status Craig! We missed you.

Jodi- I am glad that FIL is doing better. Good job getting in a workout.

Lynne- I am so glad that you decided to join us again in Jan. This is for you: :goofy:

As for me, today is my rest day. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical yesterday and then lifted weights. My shoulders are still a bit sore today. I am headed to the driving range later today. I have to play golf on Friday, and I do not want to embarrass myself.

I hate listening to the IPOD, but I think I am going to have to give in after 10 miles. WAh, WAH! :sad2: Why di Bree have to get preg??? Wah, Wah :sad2: ...Does anyone feel sorry for me? :confused3

Krista-- On behalf of all those who trained alone every single day for thier first full marathon last year, sometimes in blazing heat, sometimes in driving snow...... no, no we don't. :teeth: (Kidding, kidding)

Cam-- What great pictures!! Your daughter looks just like you! Congrats on graduation! :thumbsup2

Sunny-- Wait, Bingham did a goofy report?!? Hang on.... (Pulls RW out of the briefcase.... reading.... reading.....) Wow, that is going on the fridge during training time. :thumbsup2

Folks on the Fence-- According to the WDW Marathon website this morning, The full is 50% full, the half is 60% full and the Goofy is 90% full. Just FYI!

Yesterday evening I did manage my weightlifting/crosstraining workout with no problems. I was dead tired by the end of dinner last night, though. This new running in the morning and lifting in the afternoon thing is going to take some getting used to. This morning I have no idea how far I went, nor how fast. My Garmin was slow to catch a signal and I just did not feel like waiting around for it, so I took off doing whatever intervals I felt like. I probably went about 2 miles.... maybe 10 minute miles. :confused3 I was wrong yesterday... my five-miler is actually this weekend. I should really start looking at my training plan, LOL.

Happy training all!

Cam - Loved, loved, loved the pics. You dd is just gorgeous. I hope the weekend was nothing but magical for your family. These are days...

Heather - So psyched to see you were able to snag the DL hotel for the 1/2.

Krista - Yeah for getting back in the swing of things. :rotfl2: about the sock still being in the street.

Dave - Boatloads of :wizard: for your PT appt. today.

Sunny - :grouphug: Thinking of you and definitely betting the guns are just NOT jello. As a longtime weightlifter, I completely understand...

Jodi - Glad your FIL is improving and that your DH signed up for a 5k.

Colleen - If the PR/Goofy stuff is in question, you can just say "hey, goofy is my first ultra, so any time will be a PR!" I'm not going to do it again, but it is simply b/c I thought it was a really expensive 1/2 and the course was a little dissappointing (not to downplay it,, b/c it is still a great accomplishment) I just don't want to pay that much for a 1/2 instead of using that day to play inthe parks more. Also, I spent the afternoon after the 1/2 resting b/4 the full, so I felt like i was taking that whole day away from my family! that's just my 2cents. Good luck deciding. I can say that if i hadn't done it last yr., I would be doing it this yr!

Colleen

I am going for my 2nd Goofy. I am just looking to once again have a good time and enjoy the running through the parks. It was definitely worth it, which is why I am doing it again. For me, it is the feeling of accomplishment and the pride of knowing that I am one of the relatively few who were able to do a half and a full in consecutive days. In addition, my brother and my wife are both going Goofy this year, and I just couldn't let them have all the fun! :goodvibes I think they will need my support during the run. :cheer2:

I plan on using everything I learned from last year's Goofy and using it to help me this time around. Will my times improve (2:28 1/2 and 6:30ish full)? Probably, but that is not why I am going back. In my opinion, Disney is not the place to try and PR. There is just too much to see and so many people to interact with that a PR just is not my goal. Better times will only be the icing on the cake. Once again, the goal is simply to finish and have the energy to spend a few days in the parks afterward.

I say go Goofy! If you are not sure when race day comes, then you can always only do the full (only do a full...never thought I would hear myself say that!! :rotfl: ) You can always go from the Goofy to either the half or full, but you can't go the other way once the registration closes.

Hi everyone. It seems like forever since I have been able to post on here. I had my first running group run last week and tomorrow is my second try at it. It went OK last week, but only 6 people showed for some reason and no one chatted with me (I tried). They were into their "pairs friends". Sooo, I will give it another shot tomorrow night. Hopefully someone will want to be more social and not so snooty. I am a little concerned because the pace last week was way faster than I am used to and tomorrow we run longer. YIKES, and I haven't had time to put in a quality run. I may be the "heavy breather" just trying to keep up.

I have to back track and catch up on the posts. And I still need to get in my shirt order. I need 5 since DH and in-laws are coming. My girls are coming also, but the shirts aren't small enough for them. They are doing the kids race so I will get them some other kind of shirt.

Happy running...

Hello WISH buddies!!!! Can you tell I'm in a chipper mood? 12 hrs from right now I will be leaving for WDW :cool1:  We are staying 3 nights at POP & then 5 at CSR :Pinkbounc Never been to CSR, kids are going to love the pool Which is good since I will have them by myself while DH is in meetings all day. But I have them all day at home anyway, so I would much rather entertain them there! We are also going to see the Cars movie at DTD one day.

I am not ready for the full to be 50% full. I am not ready to make that decision yet. If I didn't have issues with my feet/ankles I would have already signed up. I'm not sure they are willing to carry me that far.

Colleen-I feel your pain! It's a tough decision. But if you do sign up for the Goofy you could decide to do just one or the other later (although you pay a big chunk in registration fees ) I didn't know you were considering Goofy. That's awesome. It would be cool walking around with all those medals. You'd look like Mr. T .

Christa-glad you got some running buddies again! What was Bree thinking starting a family when you needed her to train with :confused3 DH wont let me get clippless pedals. I'm not the most coordinated person so he is afraid I would kill myself. It will take alot more time on the bike to convince him I can do it. But I think they do help with speed/ ease of pedaling alot.

Krista-Yep, DH work said he had to go to WDW. And you know I wasnt about to let him leave us behind. Glad your knee is doing better. Have fun in DC I love that city too!

Well guys that's all from me until the 16th. Good luck with everyone's injuries and when you see me again I will be in full DL training mode :Pinkbounc

Hi WISH Team!

Scott, Thanks for the thread you posted about the race registration info. I've registered. (I'm not certain I will be able to go, but I figured if I didn't register I would not have any option.)

Dave, I am sorry to hear of your problem. I WISH I could put a string on ya to keep you slowed up a bit. Please take it easy and heal up.
pixiedust: for smooth recovery.

Sunny, pixiedust: for your smooth recovery.

Everyone, pixiedust: just because.

Cam, great photos.

In response to the question posed, would I do Goofy again? Yes. I also concur with every response given.

For me, I am definitely not in it for any PR. I am thoroughly in this for the opportunity to participate. If you train soundly now, you WILL finish. Don't overtrain though. What I did was get that base in and ease up on the speed/strength training when the "real" training weeks began. (I don't mean discontinue--just ease up.) If you are going for speed, well, I cannot advise. I do think that requires a bigger base or background doing the events for longer than this year as well as consistent training. I can see improvement through consistency. There is a point that we all reach, whatever that is where we must decide what value speed (PR) holds. My medals look and feel just as good to me as those earned by others at whatever ability they chose to pursue. Good luck with the decision.

I'm still dealing with tons here, medical is easing up...work is not.

Keep on keepin' on everyone. You are doing great.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Yahoo Lily!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :goofy: :goofy: :goofy: :goofy: I'm so glad you're signed up and won't get blocked out.

OK, I had my PT appointment yesterday afternoon and it was really good. I think I've lucked out with a really good PT. He is a runner too so that helps. Anyhow, we iced my shins, and he listened to my trouble. He gave me some more exercises to strengthen my ankles and lower legs, and then he put me on stim. OK, I never had this before. He hooked up electrodes to my lower legs, and they run a small electrical current through my legs. It kind of feels like a tingling, but if they turn it up too high your toes will start to twitch and your ankle will jerk. Anyhow, this evidently gets the blood flowing to my lower leg muscles, and then they put ice packs on top to vasoconstrict. So you have more blood flowing through smaller vessels meaning the blood flows fast and supposedly flushes out all of the inflammatory agents. They did that for 15 min and afterwards my limping was gone. It was the best I felt for a while. I was pain free for a couple of hours. It was great. Anyhow, he said I could still exercise as I was comfortable. He said do the elliptical for a while and if I'm feeling good then jump on the treadmill for a mile. Then get off the treadmill and back to the elliptical. Definitely keep the exercise under the threshold that starts the irritation. Keep your fingers crossed. I will take it easy to try to get these shins healed up, but I do want to try to keep exercising so I don't lose all my conditioning.

Ok, I guess it's official. I am a runner/walker/wogger. ;)

Last night my toe felt funny. Not bad, just like my toenail kept getting caught on my sheets or something. So, this morning (if 2:45am when I get up for work is morning) I reach down to my foot since it feels like something is wrapped around my toe. The sort of feeling you might have when you have a hole in your sock. (apologizing if this is TMI) My toenail is hanging by a thread!!! :scared1:

Now, I know I've read about this happening on here before. Is it going to come back??? I thought this wasn't going to happen to me since the Minnie 15k was a month ago, and I haven't exercised much at all since then. We are going to Ocean City, MD in 2 weeks! I just bought a bunch of new capris & sandals for goodness sake! I am really not that vain, just self-conscious.

I guess this is what I get for painting my toenails on Monday, rather than going out for a run. :lmao:

Colleen - I totally agree with you Paul! WDW is a fun race...not one to PR. Too much to see, and to many people to interact with. If you really want a PR it is better to choose a smaller race. Not that I haven't PRed. My 2nd try at WDW marathon was a full 20 min faster than my 1st....but I always get caught up in the fun an just have a blast.
I am not doing Goofy this year, but not b/c I don't want to. My sweet DH LOVEs WDW, but is just not interested in doing the training and running of the race. We may not even do the full. I have come to terms with that...but only b/c I have other races in mind.
If there is even a slight chance you may want to do Goofy, sign up..it is fun and very doable if you train well. I really feel like this was the easiest race I have ever run! I did not try to PR, but I felt so good at the full, I think I could have if I wanted to.

Kristi - COOL! A lost toenail...DH lost his after WDW and it is growing back! :lmao:

Well, I got home late from work last night. I ate, read the girls stories and put them to bed... then I went out for a short wog before dark. It was just 30 minutes, but at least it was something. Tonight is my running group and after last nights wog I decided to take it slow and easy and if I fall behind, well so be it. Apparently someone is bringing a jogging stoller, so I am sure she won't be jogging too fast if she has to push that... right???

Kristi - I lost both big toenails a yr. and 1/2 ago and I learned quickly that you can paint that hard nail bed skin that is there where the nail was. That really helps. I also heard that they can give you a fake one if you get a pedicure, but I have never had a pedicure, so I was too embarrassed to go after my feet looked so bad. Way to go tuff stuff!

Someone here at work was teasing me - telling me to paint that toe as if it had a nail. Cool to know that would really work! I was thinking it would get infected or something. I was debating (before all this) on getting a pedicure before our trip to the beach, but decided not to due to $$$. Maybe I should call the salon and ask. If they can give me a fake nail, I just might do it now.

Ugh. I am a slug. A sloth. I feel horrible. :sad2:

Wed is a rest day, so I rested. But then last night we went out (See OT below) and stayed out waaay too late, and ate waaaay too much. This morning the alarm went off and I just got up, turned it off, and went back to bed. No training. Ugh. Boy that makes me mad! :furious: But I was so tired and really not feeling too good from the gorging last night.

However, tomorrow is another day. I will rise and shine with a renewed enthusiasm, get on that TM and make up for lost time. Then, park myself in front of the TV :happytv: with breakfast and watch Kenny Chesney on Good Morning America. :p

Dave - I'm so glad you got a PT who is a runner. :thumbsup2 I think that will make all the difference in the world! I too had stim when I was in PT after my knee surgery last fall. At first it felt so weird but then it made my knee feel so much better. Strange, but it works!

Kristi - Ewwwwwwwww!

:offtopic: Last night we went out with my in-laws on account of tomorrow is our first anniversary. After my MIL's speech about how she is not giving us any more presents because she's cleaning out her house so her sons won't have to do it after she's gone and she's sure we don't want to fill our house up with things that someone will just have to clear out after we are gone...she gives us our gift. A cat garden statue. But wait! She says it's not for the garden. It's a headstone for when we bury our cat.

Excuse me but THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH OUR CAT! :furious:

First off let me send pixiedust: to all those who are hurting and :cheer2: to all those who are continuing to put their steps in.

Now, I am walking the full in January and I am wondering if any WISHers have done that before. I am absolutely determined to not be swept and I was looking for any advice from my fellow teammates.

I am currently in week 5 of MFM training for the Chicago half, and after that I am doing the DL half in Sept. I will be following the MFM walking program for the full. I guess I was hoping for someone who has been there and done that to reassure me that I am not

Also, I know I am getting way ahead of myself, but, hmm, how can I put this??? I am very, very fond of flushing toilets. There I've said it! I did use the port-o-pot before the start of the half, but then I waited until MK and used the restroom by the Diamond Shoe Review. So I was hoping that a marathon vet could give me a heads up on the availability of "real" bathrooms during the full.

The half is 212 days from today and the full is ONLY 213 days away. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Hi All....Just a quick drive by.... :drive:

:grouphug: and pixiedust: to those suffering with injuries.

:tinker: Good Luck to those in races and/or events this weekend.

I started following "couch to 5k" last week. I am doing that in addition to still going to the track at night with DH & friends. I really wanted to increase my running to 4 or 5 minutes without taking a 1/2 hour to recover. Tomorrow morning I will complete Week 2 / Day 3 of Couch to 5k. So far it feels pretty good. I have also decide to do some 5k's. The local county running club has a summer series. 3 Tuesday nights in July & 1 in August. It is a 5k in a park. Only costs $5 per night & if you do at least 3 races you get a t-shirt. Figure that might be a good way to start. I also am going to do the Batsto Pig Iron 5k on August 13th at Historic Batsto Village in Wharton State Forest, NJ

I'll try and catch up more later.

I'd have to dig out the pictures, but our wedding cake topper was Cindy's castle that we bought on Main Street. We also had a plastic coach and I believe the prince and Cindy were on the cake. Our cake was 3 tiers that were separated on individual pedestals, so we had a little something on each one.

Judy...loved your story! Makes me want to do our 10-year vow renewal at WL!

You may need to add me to the IR list :guilty: I did day 2 of the walk to run program on the Health website yesterday. Still couldn't manage to complete 30 min at R4/W2...felt incredibly out of shape. I tried to really cut back since the Minnie to help heal my foot, but it seems that's not to be. My foot was bugging me a little after the run, but not awful until...I went to the grocery store. I stood up on my toes to reach for something on the top shelf and my right calf seized up! It was like a fist clamping down in my leg. I iced my foot and leg when I got home, but today is the worst the foot has been. I actually made a podiatry appt for next week :sad1: I'm going to try switching to a new pair of ASICs that I've had in the closet...both pairs I'm using now have less than 300 miles on them, but over 200, so maybe the cushion is just gone. Please tell me y'all think a new pair of shoes will solve this problem ::yes:: I'd be willing to go buy a totally different brand/style if anyone thinks that will help

:furious:

Nothing says "Congratulations on One Year of Wedding Bliss" like a grave marker.

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick post here --- tonight I made it to the fitness center, another 3 miles on the threadmill :thumbsup2 not the best in the time catergory but I decided to take it a little bit more slowly and just enjoy (BTW - finished in 32.17 min).

Really excited that my DH is doing the 5k in October, we are hoping to train together this coming Saturday. I think I'm due for a new pair of running sneakers anytime now.....maybe I will see what else the running store has see if there is anything that makes me feel like I'm walking/running on clouds :goodvibes .

Still have to catch up on posts :guilty: Sorry, work has been hell this week

*hi* :lovestruc

I'm new. I'm a longtime lurker, first time poster. I think you guys are awesome and a great inspiration. I thought it was time for me to participate instead of just observing. I just signed up for the full 2007 marathon (have not told anyone else yet) and would like some company and support over the next coming months. I did the Minnie 15K and just got my certificate with a couple ads for Disney sports. One is for the Race for the Taste and includes a picture of the medal, which I'm totally psyched about. It looks like maybe a puffy chef's hat with a knife, fork, and spoon dangling off it. I thought it was silver at the Minnie expo but it looks like gold in the picture. If I can figure out how to post a picture I'll post it for y'all. Anyway, *hi* :goodvibes

Judy- What a great anniversary gift! Sure wish my MIL would get me a thoughtful gift like that. Do you think she has issues with your cat? :rotfl: Thank you so much for sharing that story. I laughed and laughed. I can always count on my WISH team to cheer me up. :goodvibes Happy Anniversary! I loved the wedding thread. :cheer2:

I worked all day and did not get to run. I guess I better get up and go to the gym tomorrow morning. I will try to squeeze a long run in this weekend before it gets too hot. It's supposed to be 96 this weekend. Yikes!

Lily- I am so happy that you signed up. You have to come, it would not be the same without you.

Gotta go put the DDs to bed.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

My legs are starting to feel a little better. I don't walk with such a noticable limp anymore, and the pain is subsiding. I did 35 min on the elliptical yesterday, stretched, and iced. I felt OK. I definitely did not feel like I could do the treadmill though - so I didn't. Scheduled for more STIM today. Whoo hooo! :thumbsup2 My DW calls it my Frankenstein treatment.

Sunny- I've been thinking of you, and I hope your back pain is subsiding a little bit. Hang in there girl!

Judy- Thanks for the link to your wedding report. That was wonderful. I really enjoyed reading it, and you were such a beautiful bride. Oh, and your MIL is whacked!!! Happy Anniversary - thinking of your wedding reminds me of pets dying. Here's your present!!!

Hi Jodi :wave2:. Good to hear from you. We've missed your posts. I hope things are going OK with your FIL, home, and work.

Cam- Thanks for posting the pictures. You have a beautiful family, and must be so very proud of your daughter. Congratulations!

Jenny :welcome: It's great to have you here. Congratulations on signing up for the 2007 Marathon. Welcome to the TEAM!!! Everyone has been so supportive here. I wouldn't have been able to keep this up for nearly 6 months without the support I get here!

Heather- 96 degrees! Yikes. Take it easy in the heat!

Good Morning!

Welcome Jenny! Everyone here has been wonderful as I am sure you have read while lurking!! Way to go on signing up for the marathon.

Dave - Sorry to hear about your injury. Take it easy, you have come so far already and will get back there again. Don't push it. Take your time.

Judy - :rotfl2: On the other hand, at least she isn't trying to dump the contents of her basement in your house! We are getting that from both my MIL and my mom. What they don't seem to understand is that we have a family of 5 living in 1200 sq ft. Oh, as a cat lover please don't show your darling cat the grave marker - we wouldn't want to upset him! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Sunny - What can I say - my thoughts are with you. Hang in there!

Some day I will catch up with everyone.

My saga continues. PT now thinks the hip pain is due to sacrum isssue not hamstring. I don't really care what they call it, I just need it to go away. It seems like it is just getting worse not better. I have pretty much stopped walking. I am taking naprosyn for the pain/inflammation. The last time I went out, I walked a mile at a 24 min pace and was in terrible pain. I am very worried that this means I won't be doing the CDC this august. I hope with proper rest and PT that I will be ready to go for WDW in Jan.

I keep asking myself how I got to be 33 years old, 10 lbs overwieght and in too much pain to walk! I could deal with this better if it was just keeping me from running but WALKING too! :sad2:

Thanks to you all, I won't give up!

Maggie Good for you that you are determined not to give up Maggie. We're in this together. I won't give up if you won't. Your last couple sentences really got to me. As I've been wondering how I got to be 37, overweight, and having trouble running too. Running was always something that came so easy for me. I know how I got to be overweight, new job, new kids, no exercise, more couch time, that would do it. I guess you don't undo 8 years of sitting around in 6 months. Hang in there. We're with you!

Maggie - I battled this problem last year and it is still on going. I had been first diagnosed with a sacrum issue but after xrays and finally a specialist that did an MRI they found that I have a bulging disk in my lower back which causes the back/hip/sciatic pain. I sure hope they find a solution for you soon!!!!

Hey! Just a very quick post due to having to go to work. Work really gets in my way of fun! :goodvibes

Anywho...
Jenny - :welcome:

I just got back from a very hot but wonderful 10 mile run. I prayed for 1 person for each mile and the time just flew by....I got the idea in RW a few issues ago and it was also in this one. I really did not feel like I was pushing but did end up at right below a 9 MPM.
I hope all is well with everyone today. gotta go will catch up later!

Good morning and T.G.I.F! :jumping1:

Well, after two days of "tapering" :lmao: I got on the TM this morning, and in honor of my One Year of Wedded Bliss...and my cat's continued good health...I did 51 minutes @ 3.8 @ 1% with 6 of those minutes running @ 4.5! Six minutes! I ran for six minutes! I could have gone longer but my knee was starting in with "Pssst! What the he** do you think you're doing???" So when I was done I iced them while I watched Kenny Chesney on GMA. But can you believe I ran for six minutes straight??? Geez, I can't.

Minnie - I am touched that you, a fellow equestrienne, was the first to respond to my wedding thread. :goodvibes

Sara - Thank you! I got teary eyes just writing it! :bride:

Jen - I loved the cake topper! I have it on a shelf with all my other wedding keepsakes. :lovestruc

Oh Mel - OUCH! Can you stretch it out? Ohh that sounds so painful. I hope changing shoes works. :wizard: Someday we will do a vow renewal at WDW. Maybe at the WL again. I just can't get enough of that place!

Christa - Is my MIL a Piece Of Work or what?!?!?!?!?! :rolleyes2 What a sweet sweet girl you are, praying for one person per mile. And may I just say, I am WAY impressed with your speed. :worship:

Jenny - Hi and welcome! :welcome: If you want company and support this is THE place to get it! We also offer the occasional entertainment, pity partys and commiseration on injuries, race reports, and hints and tips.

Heather - Gee, if your MIL doesn't give you "thoughtful" gifts like mine, I'll be glad to send her right over to you. You can have her. Please.

Dave - Ohh glad to hear the legs are feeling better. :thumbsup2 The Frankenstein Treatment works! Yay! Interesting thing I read this morning.....too much time on an elliptical can cause pain in the legs, due to constant compression on the nerves in the foot. It's not like a stair stepper machine or walking/running where you pick your foot up. Hmmmm...I don't know if that applies at all and also they didn't define "too much time", but it's something to think about. Maybe ask your PT what he thinks. Oh and thanks for your comments about my pictures. Yeah, ain't my MIL something? You made me laugh with your comments! :teeth:

Maggie - Oh you poor thing! I hope this gets resolved. I feel badly for you. :wizard: You guys in your 30's are killing me! Just you wait until you hit 45! Trust me! :rolleyes1

Hello and "we miss you" to Cam and Howard! :wave2:

We're off to Dutch Springs, PA :drive: so my husband can dive and I can have some R&R. I can't wait!

OK, Ok, back to work. :surfweb:

I ran with my group last night and today my legs ache. They run faster than I am used to, so it is a hard time. But I keep at it hoping to gain some speed and endurance.

I decided to sign up for a 5K on July 2, it's a Firecracker Run. Then since I am in my running group, I am automatically signed up for a run on Sept. 9. I may try the 10k in prep for the 1/2 marathon. I am also thinking of signing up for a 10K on Oct. 28. They are doing a 1/2 marathon that day also, but you have to finish in under 3 hours. The awards ceremony is 2 1/2 hours after the start of the race and the course will close 3 hours after. I am not sure if I will be ready at that point to push it, so I think the 10K is a better option and let the WDW 1/2 be my virgin 1/2 Marathon Run!!!!

Also, I have lost 14 pounds since starting this running gig and am very excited about that. This week I pulled out my WW stuff and am doing that on my own to lose more. First goal is to get back to my Pre-pregnancy weight before my FIRST child. Then I want to lose an additional 20.

Happy Running this weekend!!!!

Hey everyone! I've been trying to keep up with all the threads, but our group has gotten so big - Yea!!! I haven't posted much since the triathlon. I've been dealing with health stuff - nothing major, just changing doctors/meds/etc. My body is not very fond of change apparently... :crazy2: but I am starting to feel human again. Yea! I've just been walking, swimming, and biking, but not really on a training plan. Time to get back in gear! ;)

I don't know if this has already been posted, but for anyone interested, Disney is doing an Aquathlon on Sept. 23. It is all in Ft. Wilderness - 2 mile run, 400 yd swim, 2 mile run. This is only 4 days after we get back from CA, but I am seriously trying to figure out how to add this to the schedule! :rolleyes1 Anyone want to join me??? :thumbsup2

DH is doing great with his running. He is right on schedule for his DL and Goofy training. We can't wait to see many of you soon!!!

I will definitely try to de-lurk and check in more. I need your accountability to get going again! Lots of PD for all the injuries! And congrats to so many of our racers! Keep up the great work everyone!!! :cool1:

Hi, guys! Just a quick hello! We are back from special olympics for the night -- much earlier than any of the past 10+ years. YEAH! Just laundering clothes because we have to wear our official shirts again tomorrow, so I'm still up (so that Howard isnt waiting alone for the washer  ) (yes, he does all the laundry. Am I spoiled rotten, or what? ;) )
So do you think driving half an hour and being on my feet from 6:30 a.m. to 10:15 pm literally every single minute (except 5 mins to eat dinner and and 40 minutes at opening ceremonies) and then driving 1/2 hour home counts as cross training? My legs think I just did a 1/2 marathon or a minnie or something! :cool1:

I left the house before 6, Howard and Andy around 7, and Jenn shortly thereafter (yes, she drove down there by herself for the first time-- I was worried sick but proud of her confidence and courage). I know she was excited to be at "her university" so soon after high school graduation, doing something she is wonderful at and passionate about. What an awesome day! Can't wait to get back tomorrow (after I take some aleve, of course! :) )

So glad to see we have another new team member. :welcome: Jenny!

Christa -- what a sweetie you are to spend your running time praying. I can't think of a better multi-task set. How much more wonderful could you be? Maxed, kiddo, maxxed!

Judy -- LOVED the story and the pix. CANNOT wait to meet you and Charlie. :grouphug:

Minnie and others still battling ailments -- I admire you even more for still fighting through and being here. How many people would use the aches and pains as justification to cop out. Instead, you all look at it as something to work through. It makes us stronger, doesn't it? You aren't just people trying to do athletic stuff. Instead you are athletes who are dealing with health issues to get back to training. Kudos, guys!

Wow, thanks for all the welcomes!

Mel - I'm planning on using Galloway's training plan. It seems pretty manageable with the low mileage runs during the week. It's funny, I actually get down to your neck of the woods pretty often too because my parents live in Osprey. As for Gainesville, it's a great town to live in or even just to purchase land for an investment. The town is definitely "growing up" a little bit but it's still a cute college town.

Is anyone in the Jacksonville, FL area doing the Run for the Pies on June 17th? If you break a certain time you get a pie (20min for men, 24min for women). I've been thinking about it but it's kind of a drive for a 5K, plus we're in the process of moving so it's during a hectic time. But... FREE PIE, people! I think I'm too slow to win a pie though :(

Jen117
06-10-2006, 07:25 PM
Oh wow, FREE PIE!!! All we get here in Wisconsin are T-Shirts, if you are lucky!!!! I don't think I could run a 5K in 24 minutes tho, unless I got super woman powers!!

Jenny :welcome: This group is great for motivation!

Dave - Great news on your progress. Hope it continues!

Maggie - 33 is nothing. Wait till you hit 43 and wonder where all the aches and pains come from... I just keep telling myself that starting to run will make me feel younger, but most days I don't feel all that young!

Ran the Race for the Cure 5K this morning. Finished in 37:16, which is 1:29 better than the Minnie! The first half mile both shins were aching and cramping, and I thought "oh no," but I just kept talking myself through it and reminding myself that half the people on the WISH were struggling too, and finally the pain went away. So thanks guys for being there, even if just in my head!

Hi Jodi :wave2:. Good to hear from you. We've missed your posts. I hope things are going OK with your FIL, home, and work.

Thanks Dave - I've missed being around too! Everything is a rollercoaster right now......but things are ok with FIL right now, so I guess I could say things are looking up.

Work was definitely out of control this past week.....I had so much to do that often during the week I worked right through lunch......not the best thing to do but there was no way around it, I had to.

My DH has been worried about his job, his company is taking a nosedive but hopefullly --- there is a why that it can be turned around.

I don't know if I ever got to tell you, Dave but I loved reading about your anniversary --- that is so sweet with the massage for your DW. Four months until my anniversary.....I'm hoping DH has special for me too :).
