Good beach hotel/rental in Clearwater?

Does anyone know of a good beach hotel or rental in Clearwater? We are looking to take a beach vacation next May and maybe try to slip in a day or two of Disney. From the looks and sounds of it, Clearwater might be quite nice. Does anyone have any feedback on Clearwater Beach? We would be looking for a beachfront hotel or a rental very close to the beach, with a pool, that is also family friendly.

I was just in Clearwater for work. They put us up at the Marriott on Sand Key. I've got to admit I don't know the price of it because it was 'expensed' to work. http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/TPAMS

There was a really nice pool w/ a waterfall effect. Lots of families. I could see the bay and dolphins from one side of my balcony (all rooms had them) and if I turned my head a little I could see some of the Gulf. You could have walked to the beach from the hotel but because I was working I didn't get to.

Also, I like to run and felt comfortable enough with the neighborhood to run alone outside early in the morning and even one evening after dark.
