strictly a drive-by...I'll have to catch up on everyone's posts later.

Attended my nephew's wedding in Madison, FL today. We're staying in Gainesville tonight, then going to Silver Springs tomorrow on our way to WDW. We were able to upgrade our sSR studio to a OKW 2 BDR, so really looking forward to that! I haven't run in a week in an effort to heal my heel, but have all the running stuff for a few runs around DTD and OKW. DD13 is looking forward to trying out her new NB running shoes and DH wants to do a run with me as well!

Hope everyone's enjoying their holiday! :wizard: for all of our racers this weekend! I'll be looking forward to those race reports!

Glad to start a new week! Sunday is one of my days off from walking/running, but I know a lot of my fellow WISHers are out there getting it done. Remember, there will be a lot of holiday traffic over the next couple of days, and some of it can be dangerous :drinking1 , so BE CAREFUL on the roads!

Also, Dave, great times on your run! I read in your post that you did a 10K last weekend, 50 minutes on the elliptical Thursday, and that was it before your run today. Which brings up a question to me (someone who is training for races for the first time since high school): how often does everyone run/walk/crosstrain/etc.? I've been trying to go 5 times a week, but wonder if that is too much? I'm not going all out each time, but hitting it pretty hard. I know everyone is different, but I would like to know what everyone's typical schedule is.

Hope you all have a great Memorial Day!

Michael

I was so excited that I was really going to join you all this week! I was ready to do the Couch to 5K so that I could actually jog/run for a full 30 mins without stopping.

Well, it looks like that will not happen for me

Tonight at work I was on something like this http://partyexpress.safeorders.net/images/7element.jpg and I felt my ankle pop. It is now VERY swollen and brusing. I have to go to Centra Care in the morning and have them look at it. All I know right now is it hurts a lot and I can not put any weight on it. I don't know how long I will not be able to jog, but I think it will be a while. I will update tomorrow when I know something for sure

I was really really excited about doing this.

Morning Everyone,

Chimera (Mel) - Have a wonderful time at WDW. I wish I were going there :goodvibes, January just seems so far away :sad2:

Christy - I hope you ankle heals quickly.

God, it's so early --- but I'm getting ready for my first 10k (kind of nervous). I really hope that there aren't many major hills - my 5k was brutal!

Well, have a good day everyone, after the run I am going over my brother's for a cookout --- so it won't be until later tonight that I post.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Rest day for me today. Getting ready for DW and I to take our anniversary overnighter to Niagara Falls. I can't wait. :cool1: :cool1: We have a room booked at the Doubletree Niagara+Spa, dinner reservation at the top of the Skylon Tower in a revolving dining room, tickets to Cirque Niagara, and I got my DW a 60 min massage and 30 min facial at the spa tomorrow for her anniversary present. I'm sooooo excited to have a getaway of our own. Yay, for our cool aunt who is coming to watch the princesses princess: princess:.

Sunny- please, please, please take care of yourself. You gave me a scare when you said that one of the side effects of your meds was severe depression and suicidal thoughts, and then you said you threw away all your personal effects - including your WDW Marathon medals!!! :scared1: Please talk to your family members, Dx or whoever you can talk to. You need some people around you that care about you to keep an eye out on you. It doesn't sound like you should be alone right now.

Michael- as far as number of training days goes it varies for me and I haven't quite settled into a routine yet. So much depends on the family situation that week. When I first started I was doing 5 days/week. However, it seems as my mileage increased I needed more recovery days in between. Right now I'm usually doing 3 days/week, but I'd like to be doing 4.

Jodi- You may be at the starting line for your 10k right now!!!! Good luck!!! Run like the wind. I can't wait to hear about it.

Oh, one last thing... every morning my routine is to enter online sweepstakes hoping to win a trip to Disney. Well, guess what? I won...

a can of Febreeze :cheer2: :cheer2: Whoo hooo!!! It was kind of funny. A box came in the mail, and I had no idea what it was. Turns out it was a can of Febreeze, and it said congratulations you are one of the secondary prize winners in the Febreze "Poocharelli's Prize Wheel" instant win game. It wasn't the trip to Orlando, but hey, I'll take it. I was kidding my princesses princess: princess: that I should put it on the mantle like a trophy.

Happy days, and happy training everyone!!!

Chrity,
PixieDust to you ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

We did 10K on the treadmill on Saturday morning before breakfast and another 9K on Sunday morning. Now we will do the elliptical only and some iron pumping on Monday (Chest, shoulders, arms), Tuesday (Lower and upper back, arms) and Wednesday (Legs) to get some rest before the JPMCCC on Thursday. Wednesday we'll also play some Badminton to losen up a bit.
On Thursday we'll finish work around 3pm and so I should be able to have a little nap before we meet with our team at 6pm. Start will be 730pm.

Chimera, Simply, have a great time!

crzy4mk, I usually run - cross training is not included here - 4 or 5 times a week. After many years of running I have found that this getting older body needs at least 2 rest days per week and sometimes 3. You have to listen to your body and rest when it is letting you know it is needed.

sap1227, sounds like you sprained that ankle. Here is some :wizard: PD comming your way for a quick recovery.

jodistar, moving on up to the 10k. Good luck and don't forget to have fun (you have probably already crossed the finish line by the time I posted this).

Mouse Skywalker, congratulations on both the anniversary and "winning" :rotfl2: the sweepstakes. Have a great time.

I plan on doing nothing but enjoying a BBQ at in laws today, watching all the kids, having a couple of beers, dogs, burgers and whatever else that they are serving. Today is my slug day. Yesterday I ran with the running club and we did a 10.5 out and back very hilly course in 1:26:22. This was the first of the year where the temp was near 80 and humidity was really high; so high that when I came off the trails and out of the woods my sunglasses fogged up so bad that I could not see where I was going. Hope everyone has a great day and gets out to enjoy the long weekend.

Sunny- Please take care of yourself! You are such an inspiration to all of us on the WISH team. We would be lost without you! :grouphug:

Michael- I follow the Marathoning for Mortals training program, even when I am not officially "in training" for an event. Basically, I run on Mon., cross-train on Tues., rest on Weds., run on Thurs., cross-train on Fri., long run on Sat., and rest on Sun. That's 5 days of exercise and 2 days of rest each week. Of course, I haven't exactly been following that plan lately. :rolleyes1

No long run for me yet this weekend. Yesterday I had a Premier Designs Jewelry party at my house, and we attended my BIL's high school graduation. Today I am already at work. :badpc: Maybe I can get in 3 miles tonight. Better get working. DH is at home taking care of princess: princess: princess: princess: . They were fighting, jumping on the furniture, and making each other cry when I left. Bye, gotta go to work. :wave2: My DH is a saint.

goofyguy--you are correc :thumbsup2 t. A sprained ankle. Hopefully I will be up and about in no time.

Wow, Dave you were the big winner, that is almost the same as a trip to Disney.

I will try to keep reading this all week, so I am in the right mindset when it is finally time for me to start back up!

Christy: PD for that ankle!!! Here's hoping it heals extra speedy!!!! :grouphug:

Sunny: :grouphug: Please take care of yourself! I think that teacher was way out of line! And your Dr office is just ridiculous. You've been going through so much lately! Please please keep posting when you need to vent!!!!

We just returned this afternoon from our weekend wedding extravaganza. The girls were beautiful in their Flower Girl dresses and we had an amazing two days of fun! On Friday I ran EIGHT miles before we left....got that LR out of the way early ;). My legs felt amazing afterwards and I really surprised myself on the run. Planned to run 4 today but I'm exhausted so I'll run it tomorrow morning instead! This week the schedule is all jumbled anyway due to the holiday. BTW I finished the 8 miles in 1 hr 30 minutes...which included a hydration walk break and a potty stop! Thank God for construction sites LOL!

Thanks, guys
I'm really out of the woods. I stopped the Levaquin three days ago and none of those dark feelings have surfaced again. I almost feel embarassed for brining it up, but if it could help alert others to be careful then its worth it.

Jodi-- how did the 10K go? I can't wait to hear.

Amy-- sounds like you've got the 8 miler down! Great job!

Dave ~ First to answer one of your previous posts.... I did grow up in the Plum area. I grew up in Oakmont from 1963 until 1977 and then moved to New Kensington. I graduated from Valley High School in 1981, then attended PSU-New Kensington for two years after that. It was during my time at PSUNK that I met Cam.

The Spring Lake 5 Run was a lot of fun. It was HOT :sunny: and humid. I ran it in a PR of 43:56 and had a 8:47 pace. I have a few left over sore muscles from the Marathon not a week before, but it was fine. The part that got and kept my attention was my "t-band". I need to find out more about it. I was telling my friend about my leg (near my knee) where it hurt and I said I didn't know what it was that was bothering me. Another runner over heard the comment and chimed in that it was my t-band. She even showed me a stretching exercise to try to prevent it.

Cam did really well too. I'll let her post about it though.

Happy Memorial Day!

Christy and Sunny - :wizard: :wizard: for speedy recoveries!

Well, I'm trying to get back in the groove (again!). I went out with the intention of doing a 3-4 mile run/walk today. Ended up being a 2 miler and I walked the last 1/2 mile.

I'm one of those people that likes to eat a little before a run. Usually in the morning a banana and/or toast. Today I did my run/walk in the early evening. Guess I didn't let the burger and 'dog settle long enough. Had a little stomach trouble and had to cut the run short.

Guess I learned my lesson.

Morning Everyone,

Happy Memorial Day!

Dave, Sunny, Goofy Guy - Thank you for the well wishes on the 10k yesterday.

I don't feel that I did all that great on the 10k, but I at least made through to the end. It was a really beautiful day (Thank god) but towards the end of the race it just got too hot and we were directly under the sun (it was around 80 degrees - no breeze what so ever), it was also towards the end that my ankle once again started to get sore - I will have to get that looked at and see what's going on.

Anyhow, the race was put together really well and brought us through the business area of Hartford. I don't know how familiar some of you are with Hartford but the area that I was running in has a reputation for being a very rough area but with all the runners and all of the Police directing traffic - no one was going to try anything.

The one thing I did miss with this run --- was there weren't enough people out there cheering us on. Last race people had come out of their houses and were cheering us on but with this race with all the businesses closed for the long weekend -- there was no cheering.

Well, enough of my critique --- the final numbers are out and I finished the race in an hour and seven minutes with only 23 people behind me. I guess, I can't complain I haven't been doing this long but I wish I could have done better.

I didn't take many pictures yesterday, or should I say Bob and I did not take enough pictures yesterday.....but I will try and post some within the next couple of days.

Good Morning and Happy Memorial Day to all my American friends.

Sorry I have been MIA for a while. Lots going on. Training is still going good. I am not sure I know what I am doing but just trying to work on distance still right now and will work on time maybe after the summer.

Hope you are all doing well, feel so out of the loop, I will have to read all the old posts.

Have a great day all.

Confession:

Okay, it's time to fess up and be brutally honest. I am not running anymore. I guess I have to say that since I haven't done a single run since my last 5k a month ago. And worse, I didn't run any to prepare for the previous one. So it's been 2 months and the only running I've done is my actual 2 5ks. Boy, that was hard to admit.

For some reason I'm scared to get out there again. I'm terrified of finding out that my body has regressed and that I will have to start all over with aching lungs and burning leg muscles. I think mentally I just got really bored with doing the same course over and over. I've been trying to will myself out there, but the fear has been more powerful and has kept me on the couch. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this.

I've hated watching from the sidelines as all my fellow WISHers are increasing their milage, and I'm almost certain I couldn't even make it 3 miles at this point. I also hate having to smile and lie when someone asks me how the running is going. "It's going great." Ugh!

I haven't lost a single pound in the past month. I've stayed on my diet pretty much, but I can tell the running was really helping. I've reached a point where I'm comfortable with my weight. Well, comfortable in the sense that it's thinner than I've been in a long time, but it's still no where near healthy. It is at a point where it will remain consistant even if I don't exercise. I'm afraid of going below this weight because it means I will have to exercise to keep it off for the rest of my life. I hate the embarrassment of yo-yo weightloss. Friends celebrating when you lose, and then thinking to themselves "well there she goes again" when it comes back on. I really don't know if I'm ready to commit to keep up a strict exercise regiment for the rest of my life. It would be so much easier to just stay at this weight even though I know it's not healthy. It doesn't hold that risk of embarrassment.

Anyone else ever hit this point in their training? If so, I would love to hear what you guys did to get over it. I told DH that we needed a Garmin so we could run anywhere. Maybe the variety would help, but we just don't have the $$ right now. Plus, it doen't fix the weight issue. Blah! I feel like such a whiner, but I really needed to give these feelings a voice. Thanks for listening.

Dena- You are not alone! I am constantly battling weight and exercise issues. I have a lot of stress in my life with working full time as a lawyer and raising 4 DDs. I get upset because I am overweight and I go on a diet. Then, I get upset because dieting stinks and I just want to eat whatever I want and I don't want to have to diet and exercise the rest of my life. So I go off the diet and my weight goes up again and then I am miserable because I am overweight and feel unattractive. It is a vicious cycle. Right now I am in the diet and exercise phase. I started WW last Monday and have lost 2 pounds. The best part is that with eating better and exercising, I really do feel better physically. My advice is to just do it. Get up off the couch and go for a walk. You don't have to run or even walk fast. You just have to get out there and have the courage to start. Will your legs hurt? Will your lungs burn? Maybe, but my guess is that you have not lost the fitness that you think you have in just two months. I think you will be surprised at how quickly you will be able to return to pre-couch potato state. Get out there today and then post so that we can celebrate your victory over fear!

P.S. True friends don't care about your yo-yo weight. They love you for what is inside.

I think I can, I think I can, I thought I could, I thought I could.....I did it! I finished the 10k in 90 mins. :cool1: I know that isn't a major record time, but it is for me.....I had a ball and I would do the Bolder Boulder again in a heart beat!

Thanks to all my buddies on the W.I.S.H. team I felt motivated and strong! :cheer2: I just know I can complete the full WDW marathon......I think I can, I think I can...... :p

Jodi - WTG on your 10k! :cool1: You did GREAT!

Dena - I totaly understand! Fitting everythin in the day is not easy!

I did not have time to read everything but will later!
Here is my training this weekend!
Friday - I ran 10 miles with an average 9:04.4 MPM...Not great, but I will take it.
Saturday did the bike thing! With sis and a guy named Jon who totaly has "Mad Biker Skills"...my pride was the only thing that allowed me to keep up with him.....we biked on some of the BFHs in GA. Then I went sking (SP?) and swimming in the lake for the rest of the afternoon...I can hardly move my arms! (I haven't skied in 10 years...but did get up and had a BLAST!)
Sunday - More work on the bike! LOVE THE HILLS! Trying to get as much of the bike in as I can.
Good news (I hope)....My sis has almost agreed to do the marathon! My SIL said she would do the 1/2 and my mom said she may too! We will see....Trying not to get my hopes up yet.

Getting ready to go run..will talk later!

Dena - Hang in there! I know it can be very frustrating. I am constantly trying to fit everything and I get mad at myself when I skip a workout (or 2 or 3). Although I would love to lose about 20 pounds, I'd settle for just toning up what I've got. Like the previous poster said, you just have to keep moving. Take a walk. Stretch. Try yoga, anything to help burn calories. Doesn't have to be fast, just has to BE. And we're here to help you along! :grouphug:

Monte - Congrats! I've heard the Bolder Boulder is a great event. I'd really like to try it one day.

Jodi - Congrats on your race, too! :thumbsup2

I did a couple short run/walks this weekend. But it was hot and humid (guess I should have got up at 6AM, like at WDW). Anybody have an idea how warm it'll be for the DL 1/2? I know Sept. in CA will be warmer than Jan. in FL, but trying to get an idea how warm at 6AM.

I've been MIA here for a while now, mostly due to a lot of out-of town company. I don't think it's going to let up soon, either. New group of friends coming in next week. I will really try to get here more often. I have missed all of you.

I am still putting in as many steps as I can - not quite what I'd like to be doing, but far better than not doing at all! No races planned for these humid FL summer months, so I'm doing more cross training than anything.

Sunny, I haven't read the last 2 weeks of posts yet, but from what I did read sounds like things with you have been pretty scary. Hope that getting off the Levaquin has helped. Please continue to take care of yourself.

Sunny - :hugZ: WHy is it that we get caught the one time we do something totally out of character for us? I know from what you right that you are doing the best you can for your kids! DOn't be too hard on yourself. ALthough you have SUpoer WOman strenght, you are still human. Good luck with the doc search!

Nancy - Thanks for stopping in!

Dena - We're all there sometimes. I got on the scale this mornig and founf out I'm heavier than I've been since last year. :( Toomuch holiday ice cream. I'll promise to try harder now if you will. ;)

Helen - Yes, that is what I was trying to imply. It just seemed like you were always running last year. Glad you'r egettign some good XT in! I need to work on that badly!

Howard - COngrats on the PR! That's awesome!

Solo - Totally forgot what I was going to tell you. :confused3 Congrats on teh good plane tic's though! That is awesome, especially for a non-stop from GR! Just remebered! You can have SR stonkers! Most of mine are! :teeth:

jodi - That heat woudl have kille me! OCngrats on a great 10K!

monte - Woo hoo! Congrats on your 10K!

Amy - Glad you had agreat time!

Christy - Hope your ankles feeling better!

Heather - Well said!!! I do not know how working moms do it to begin with. You amaze me!

Terri - Way ot get out there in that heat!

Mackinac Bridge Memorial Race - FIrst of all, I learned I spell the bridge wrong. :rolleyes1 I had spelled it like the city with a w and it's like the island with a c, even though it's attached to the city, not the island. :confused3 Good thing they're all pronounced the same!

Anywho....I need to upload pics, but my camera is still in the amphipod case, attached to the fanny pack. Online pics are not availanle yet.

Quick review. I thougth it was to be small. 1200 to 1500. Well, it was 600. Compare that to Viking's race! ;) I have no idea how far I ran - See Garmin question. The race info said it was anywhere from 5.6 to 5.8 to 6.1 miles. My Garmin said 5.06, but I staarted a bit late. Most other Garmins said 5.08. My Garmin distance was so short that I was afradi to start my kick until I saw the line, because I could not believe we were finishing already. We had a 10:18 pace, though. I wanted to be under 11, but RAELLY wanted ot be under 10:30, so I'm happy, although not 100% confident in Garmin readings. If the race really was longer, though, I rocked! :p It wa sa very cool race. Met a Boston marathoner. Wow! very nice person! The race was like nothing I've ever seen before, an likely never will. I think WISHers need to take it over next year! ;) Funniest thing. We started at a rest area just over the bridge. At the start, the man told us to run to the bridg eand turn right. duh... Turn left and you're going away form the bridge and into 70 mph traffic. Hmmm...There's a no-brainer.

Garmin Question - I've never fully figured out what it does with elevation and have not given it any bench marks yet. Does it track elevation, though? If it does, does it figure total distance when you run (vert and horiz) or does it just figure horizontal? I'm thinking this could be why everyone's GPS distances were shorter. It really did feel short, but 1.5 to 2.5 miles was down hill, so who knows. The other thing.... I have always heard the bridge was 5 miles long. Garmin put it around 4. I can't believe peopel ar a whole mile off.

OK, returned home Sunday and power planted SUnday and Monday. Yikes!! I can't go from 60 to 90 in a week. This is insane. Better than snow, but... I am proud of myself. I tend to ge t heat ezxhaution when I work in conditions over 80. I drank a water or gatorade every hour, though, and drank it in the shade. I made it through very well. Now if I can only get those muscles that I only use when planting flowers to stop screaming in pain! ;)

Sunny - :wizard: So glad to hear you're feeling better. You are such an inspiration to many on this board.

Mel - I hope your nephew's wedding was a blast and you had a safe, enjoyable trip.

Christy - :wizard: To you for a speedy recovery of your ankle.

Jodi - Great job on the 10k :cool1: We wanna see pics!!

Dave - Happy Anniversary!!!! I hope you guys had a magical time.

Amy - Congrats on the awesome 8 miles :woohoo: .

Howard - on the PR!! You're just breaking records right and left.

Kim - Great to 'see' you again. Glad to hear your training has been going well.

Dena - Hang in there :grouphug: . Life does get in the way sometime. You can always recommit and jump back in the game. That's the beauty of it. We'll be here cheering you on every step of the way.

Heather - I SO hear you sister!! It is such a vicious cycle. Sometimes I wonder why I just don't surrender and get past it. Congrats to you for staying the course when you have so much else going on in your life. It is no small feat, that's for sure. I can only imagine what an inspiration you are for those princesses of yours. I run to inspire my girls also

Monte - WTG!! :cool1: You will master the WDW full for sure.

Nancy - So nice to see you again. Happy cross-training and stay cool!!

Carrie - Congrats on the awesome race pace  . I am right there with you feeling the drastic increase in temps in the Northeast recently. I wilt when the humidity creeps up. Glad you got the flowers done.

Training is going well, although I'd like to get in an outside run sometime soon. I am running the Freihofer's Run for Women 5K in Albany this weekend. My girls will be doing the kids' races, which makes it so much more fun.

Happy training to all and best of luck meeting goals this week.

So much to catch up on after the weekend.....

Jodi-- Congrats on the 10K!!

Kim-- Glad to hear training is still going so well. Keep checking in!! :)

Dena-- Been there, done that for sure. To be honest, the only cure is just to put one foot in front of the other and get out the door. If you expect that it's going to be hard, you won't be disappointed and might even be pleseantly suprised. Let us know how it goes!

Monte--- Congrats on the 10K

Carrie-- Congrats on the race. Sounds like a good one. I know what you mean about the temperature changes, but I refuse to complain about the heat considering how much I complain about the winters here. Oh, and Northwest has already changed one of my nonstops  Now I am flying through Detroit for my return. Turns out the return they put me on was the one I was going book under normal circumstances, so no harm no foul....yet.

Christy-- Hope you up and moving better soon!

Howard-- What a great time!! And having just run a marathon recently?!?! :worship:

As for me, this weekend was kind of a bust. My intention was a nice long run on Saturday morning. Well.... Friday night I come to find out that an old friend is in town for the weekend and plans were made to "go out." Long story short, I'm not 22 anymore. :headache: The weather was so fanastic here I just never managed to get moving out the door to run for the rest of the weekend. Too much time at the beach, too much hanging out. I'm not exactly beating myself up over it considering how crazy the weeks leading up to it had been.

This morning I did manage to roll myself out of bed and do a nice 5K training run in 30:13 or 9:45/mile pace. I'm happy with neither the time nor the pace, but I guess that's what happens when you've been going at it inconsistantly. Also, it was incredibly humid this morning (we're getting thunderstorms as we speak) and my body just isn't used to that yet. Nevertheless, I got it in and hopefully I'll be back in form in no time..... :groom:

Back to work!
Happy training!

I've been meaning to ask: Where do I get the cool WDW Marathon Weekend 2007 clippie?

Nancy- Hi! I was just thinking about you this morning and wondering where you have been and how you and Barry are doing. :wave2:

Jodi and Monte- Great job on your 10K's! :cheer2:

Carrie- Great job on the Mackinac Bridge Run!

Carrie and others in the NE- Welcome to my world of heat and humidity :sunny: Now you know why I run at the gym in the summer.

Hey where is Lisa? We need a pregnancy update. Any luck yet? :confused3

Also, where is Cam? We heard about Howard's PR. I want to hear about Cam's race. :)

Hey all! Hope everything is well for you...I have just been able to look through all the posts I have missed and:

Howard, Carrie, & Monte - WTG on your race! You are doing so good! :cool1: :thumbsup2

Keven - That is a wonderful pace for your run today! :thumbsup2 The heat does sap it out of you!

Sunny - I also read your post from last week and it worries me. I dont know if you know this, but I am a LPC. You need to really take care of you and see someone to talk if you need it....I am glad you can talk to us, I know that helps. I understand feeling guilty for having to work....I have missed several field trips and school parties b/c of work. I also do the chucky cheese and YMCA parties...I try to keep in mind that I am doing the best I can under the circumstances (sp?) I have been given. Don't beat yourself up....You are a great person and a great mom....... :wizard: :wizard: to you...I think you will feel better when you can start really working out again...I know that is like a therapy session for me.
Hope all this helped a little....Here is a picture to cheer you up!

This is a total drive-by, I haven't even glanced at the thread yet.

But I'm so excited I just had to get this out to you all :teeth:

A friend at work who is going to do the RtB sent me a link on his new training toy... Of course it turns out to be a Garmin Forerunner, but look at this thing:

New Garmin Forerunner (http://www.ems.com/catalog/product_detail_square.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=8455 24442590334&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302848848&bmUID=1148665821875)

It can be used with "motion control" software that corrects for course errors due to loss of signal. It can be used with Google Earth to put you right on the map! It is the absolute coolest gadet known to man.

He showed me what the uploaded data looks like:

http://trail.motionbased.com

Fortunately for me, my Garmin has been wigging out a lot lately... Looks like its time for a new toy :Pinkbounc

Dena-- I know exactly how you feel. I have this awful feeling that when I do strart running again it will be right back to were I once started. And the weight issue is a never ending battle, too. I'm coming up on my 1 year anniversary of making WW goal in June and I'm TEN pounds above it. I'm so disgusted with myself. The only disappointment I've had in my transformation to gym rat/racer is that working out doesn't solve the weight issue. :confused3 I think if I had the opportunity to wo 8 hours a day I could still overeat.

Also, this last scare of not being able to move without pain has been horrible. I've had to continually fight thoughts of "what if I can't workout anymore". I honestly don't know how I would live. I know that sounds so petty when there are people making a difference in the world with such greater obstacles in their life, but I have to be honest.

So Howard, can I pursuade you to join our RtB team? You've got the speed, baby :smooth:

Sunny: The new Garmin sounds awesome! But I just bought my 301. It'll be a while for me!

Carrie: WTG on the race!!! :cheer2: I was thinking about you this weekend. Glad to hear you had a good time and super pace!!!! I would love to know more about how the garmin accounts for hills though myself.

I ran in the 90 degree heat yesterday at 1 pm LOL. Not bright! I did manage to pace at 10:19 mpm which included stops for my DD who was having bike issues among other things (she accompanied me). The humidity is brutal...now that summer heat has arrived I'll have to get my butt out of bed early and run in the cooler morning! :sunny:

Hello everyone! Like so many others here I haven't read every single post on this thread yet, but I wanted to give you a quick race report...or perhaps I should say "non-event" report......But it wasn't all bad...

First off, DH decided on Friday to run the 5K. So since I lost my "support crew", I recruited my dad to "hold my things". Well, you would have thought I was running Boston the way I had my bag packed. I tried to think of everything anyone ever mentioned here that they bring. I had Chapstick, extra socks, tissues, sun block, sunglasses....

So we get there 45 minutes before our start time, as were were advised to do. I was pre-registered for the "4.3 K Fitness Walk" So I check in and find out I don't get a number or chip. OK, well, that's fine. This wasn't a "real" race anyway. DH got his stuff, but no shirt for him since he didn't pre-register. I did offer him mine, since he was really racing and I wasn't. (See what kind of a wife I am?) But he didn't take it. (See what kind of a DH he is?? :cloud9: ) I don't mean to criticize, but well, they are REALLY cheap shirts. Not Beefy-T's, like the kids in the PeeWee races got. Plus their shirts were in fun colors, like lime, purple, turquoise. Plus all the kids got numbers. Grrrr. And their registration fee was $8.00. I paid $21.00. :rolleyes2

OK, well, anyway, I was supposed to start five minutes before DH's 5K. So we said good luck and went to our starting lines. We had a "Leader" for our walk, which should have been my first clue of how things were going to be. My second clue should have been the fact that several women doing the walk on skirts on and a couple were wearing espadrilles. Hu???? :confused3 Off we go....at a record breaking.....chat pace. Yes, they were all chatting away. Apparently they all knew each other. There were about 15 or so women and one very old man. Then I realize what this is.....this ain't no FITNESS walk, it's a social event for the wives of runners. :furious: Oh no! Grrrrrr.

We had to stop twice in the first few minutes to let the 5K pass then the 10K had to cut thru. Well, I lasted about 5 minutes with these guys. After the 10K went by I took off. :moped: I wasn't thinking "Hey, maybe I can catch the 5K", but you know what? That's exactly what I did! :yay: Granted it was the very very very end of the 5K. I started thinking I should have just signed up for the 5K, but I didn't want to be over ambitious. But there were a lot of people walking it. I was walking/jogging. And let me tell you - OMG it felt so good to run! I see the appeal of getting off the TM! It was so beautiful, thought really darn hot and humid! But we went around a lake. It was so pretty! I was running for as long as I could, then I'd walk for a bit. Ohhhh IT FELT SO GREAT! :bounce:

Two funnies.....I glanced at my Garmin at one point and said out loud "Ohh! I'm ahead of the sweepers!". I don't think anyone heard me but I made myself laugh. :lmao: Then, when I used to gallop my horse on the trails and she'd start going to fast or we'd have to slow down for some reason I'd say "Easy up, missy!" and she'd slow down. I was running on a flat and it started to go down hill and I said "Easy up, missy!" to myself. This time two ladies did hear me! They smiled, probably thinking I was some sort of a looney. :rotfl:

I don't care. I had a great time and it felt soooo good to run on the pavement! I'm already scouting for another local 5K. I am so there! :cheer2:

BTW, DH pulled a hamstring but did fab-u-lous! He was 19th in his age group. I am extremely extremely proud of him! :woohoo:

OK this was supposed to be short. I have to get back to work now. Tomorrow I promise I will give the WISH board the attention it deserves!

ETA: OMG! I got a TAG!! :Pinkbounc

Well, I am starting to finally get over my illness of 2 weeks... it is now a sinus infection! AUUUGHHHHH. I did wog 2 miles on Saturday (didn't want to push it since I was still sick), and 3 miles on Sunday in the beastly heat. Holey Cow, I was dripping after that and it didn't help my allergies or sinuses one bit!

On Thursday I plan to run with the local group here as long as it doesn't rain. I am super nervous since I am so slow, but they told me there are run/walk people in the group. We shall see, I am not one for being embarrassed in a group setting.

Judy - That is so funny. I am so proud of you for taking off. I wouldn't be able to handle the dwaddlers either!!!

Oh yes! I understand...this weekend put me over the edge!

Sunny - Ron told me about that Garmin in April while we were trail running...He had read somewhere that they were coming out with it..or had seen it..or something like that.. It looks cool! I don't use one running, but I bet it would be cool to use it biking and swimming. I never really know how far I have gone.
And, to agree with Howard, what is RtB??? :confused3

Judy - :cool1: :thumbsup2   :thumbsup2 :cool1: You did AWESOME! I loved reading your race report. AND IT WAS A RACE! :woohoo:

I swam today! Did a little over a mile...The 1st 25 laps took 32.45...There was this guy beside me flipping and stuff...he kept getting real close to me and had VERY little clothing on! I will never quite be the same after seeing all I saw IN THE POOL today! :rotfl2: The last 11+ miles I forgot to turn back on my watch..it is for the best because I had DDalmost6 on my back. She is 45lbs of dead weight! :lmao:

HELP!!! :sad1:

I really need some pixie dust, good thoughts, prayers, and any advice anyone may have to give. I am in pain! You may remember I reported several days ago that while my training was going well, and I was having some great times on my sessions, I was having some pretty serious pain in my shins/knees. So, I got some good crosstraining shoes, and started taking a day off here and there, and I thought my problem was solved.

WRONG!

I did 3 miles Saturday morning, and was a little sore afterward. No big deal, because I was taking Sunday off. Well, my knees hurt pretty bad on Sunday, even though I wasn't doing any running/walking. So I planned to get up Monday morning and get in a good, long session. I had to quit after 2 miles because my knees hurt so bad. So no session today. And as I sit here and type this, I don't see how I can train tomorrow either. I am taking pain reliever and putting ice packs on my knees, but it's not helping much. I am really starting to get discouraged because I was doing great.

So, now that my pity party is over, anyone got any good advice for my knee troubles? I know that it could be several different things, but I would love to hear from anyone who has had knee troubles. Thanks.

Michael

HELP!!! So, I got some good crosstraining shoes,
Michael

It could be your shoes, cross trainers and running shoes are very different. What kind of shoes are you wearing?

crzy4mk

It could be your shoes, cross trainers and running shoes are very different. What kind of shoes are you wearing?

Nike Air Monarchs. They seem to be good shoes, especially considering that for the first month I was training, I was wearing 5 year old Reeboks with no support and that were definitely not designed for running/walking.

The reason I chose crosstrainers as opposed to running shoes is that I am actually doing more walking than running. I typically walk 1 mile, and run approx. 200 yards, then repeat. So I thought crosstrainers would work best for me. It could be the shoes, but I don't think so.

Just a little more info on my knee problem: it actually feels more like the very top of my shin as opposed to my knee. Like right where my lower leg bone (fibula?) meets my knee on the inside of my leg. I've looked at a few things online, and I can't remember exactly what it's called, but I think they said it is commonly known as "runner's knee". One thing I remember is that it said it usually hurt going down stairs, but not much going up. And that is true in my case.

I ran my last run of 4.5 miles before my little home town half marathon this weekend. It was terribly hot. :faint: I started at 8:40 a.m. after I got DS and DD off to school and finished at 9:25 am and it was already 81 F. I almost died. The low for Saturday morning is suppose to be 60 F, but that is still too hot :sunny: for me! I remember Disney, gosh that was nice and cool! I couldn't imagine running a marathon in anything over 50 F. I ran an easy 9:45 pace, I am really hoping to be around 10mpm on Saturday, but the course is really hilly and it will be hot again Saturday  , so I am hoping of a 2:20 half. I ran 2:13 in Vancouver, but it was 45 F and drizzling, perfect running weather.

Also, today I officially put down a deposit for a room at POFQ for the Disney Marathon, you know the one I am not sure if I will be running since I am running Chicago in October! :rotfl2: Still need to work on DH for that one.::yes::

Christa, good job working on those relatives for marathon weekend, and your mom too! That's great! :thumbsup2

Jen, I know what you mean about dripping from the heat. I am a "leisure" runner, I don't work very hard so I don't really sweat, I 'perspire', but today holy cow, I was sweating bullets!! I think I drank 80 oz of water and gaterade after just 4.5 miles (and 32 oz during the run).

Amy, great pace with your run! Yes heat really zaps you, think about how well you will run in the cooler Fall months when training!

Sunny, glad to hear you are feeling better! Not sure if I can do RTB since I decided to run Chicago. But I never say never! :lmao: What weekend is it again?

Judy, love your race report. You are so above those chatty women out for a stroll. You are an athlete! So glad you decided to run with the 5Kers. You are going to be hooked on races before you know it.

Waiting for Dave's anniversary trip report to Niagara Falls.

Michael, good luck finding your problem to your knee pain, just be sure to ice.

Keep cool all!

Michael - Running shoes tend to be best, even when walking. Uneven groudn can also effect your knees. I'm no expert by any means, but those are my best guesses. You may have been able to get by with bad shoes at the beginning, but with longer runs, tha tmay be catching up to you.

Colleeen - I hear you on teh heat! EVen teh end of WDW was too hot for me because it hits the 60s. Good luck Saturday! Stay hydrated!

Dena (and Kristi) - I'm right there with you. I didn't run for an entire month before the Minnie, felt good about how I did then, but haven't done anything since then. I've only been lurking on the thread for the past couple of weeks since I had nothing to report, but Saturday morning I got up and went out and did 3 miles, and then did another 3 miles Sunday morning, and it FELT GREAT! Even better, I didn't feel like I was starting over. Like Heather said, you just have to get off the couch and do something. So yesterday I signed up for the Race for the Cure 5K next weekend - now I have a goal!

Sunny - There is nothing wrong with "easy" birthday parties. It does not make you a bad mother. The kids don't know the difference anyway, and in 20 years, having more time to spend with your DS will have been more important than what kind of party you gave.

Michael - PD for the knees. I hope you figure it out soon, but take it easy and keep using the ice. It took me almost 2 months of rest to get my shins back to normal, and I'm still babying them!

WE BOUGHT A GARMIN!!! I really thought I wasn't doing enough distance to make it worth the money, but DH has gotten interested now, and he got money from his soccer team for the end of year gift, so we went shopping on Saturday. He looked at lots of different monitors, and actually bought a cheaper one and tried it too, (cause he got tired of hearing me say "everyone on the DIS has a Garmin,") but the other one didn't work at all so we kept the Garmin. Now I have even more reason to get back out and run...

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

OK, I need to save my anniversary trip report for my next post, but suffice it to say we had a wonderful time!!! Some running news for me - I broke down and bought new shoes on Saturday. My running store recommended the New Balance 1060s. They offer some more cushioning than my Asics Cumulus, and they are support to have a little more support too. They feel pretty good right now, and I'm really hoping they help with my shin splints. I wogged in them in Niagara Falls. I did 4 miles along the Niagara Parkway in ~60 min/15 mpm pace. I did lots of stops to look at sights (I'll tell you why I was running alone and left my wife alone in my trip report). I also ran yesterday when I got home from work. OMG!!! It was 95 degrees!!! :sunny: I struggled through 3 miles in 10:45mpm pace. The shoes felt pretty good though.

OK, I have a lot to catch up on. Let me start:

Congratulations Jodi on your 10K!!! :cool1: :thumbsup2 :cool1: 67 minutes is nothing to sneeze at, and it does sound like it was really hot on the course. You've come a long way. I'd love to see pictures if you have them.

Amy- great job on your 8 mile long run. Your training has really, really come along. You're doing super!

Howard- Wow, 8:47 pace for your 5 miler!! Whew, you are :smokin:. I'm impressed. WTG :thumbsup2 And that's really cool we both lived in Plum for a while. I was born in California and we moved to Plum around 1971. I graduated from Plum High in 1986, and then went to Pitt. I had lots of friends that went to PSUNK. Did Cam go there too?

Monte/Monica- Hey, great job on your 10k :thumbsup2! I didn't know you were running the Bolder Boulder. Wow, I've heard about that race for a long time. It always sounded like a fun one. Good for you!!!

Carrie- Sounds like the Mackinac Bridge run was a lot of fun. Glad you didn't get blown off. :teeth: I can't help you with the Garmin questions. Mine's been wigging out lately too. I think the leafy trees are really blocking the GPS signals. Fortunately most of my routes I already have figured out. If there's a WISH meet up next year on the bridge, I might have to come out!!!

Judy- sounds like you had a great race!!! Good for you. You had a real breakthrough. You started with the chit-chat walkers, realized that wasn't for you, brokeaway, set your own pace, and had a great time. Good for you!!! I loved your race report.

Kim- thanks for stopping by and posting. Keep on putting those steps in.

Dena- Thanks for posting the confession. I know that is really tough to come to terms with. It does sound like you are in a rut with your training, but put your past behind you (from the Lion King :simba:), don't worry about what you have or have not done, and just put some steps in (as Lily would say). Try not to think about what your fitness level was before you stopped. You know the Garmin did really help me with my training. I like being able to go out the door anywhere and know how far I've run. I appreciate the $$ issues though. We certainly have those too. Maybe you can just go to a park, find somewhere new, and do some nice easy walks in a new place. Get the steps in, and get some enjoyment back in your training. Good Luck Dena!!! And don't you leave us!

Christa- great job on your training. I'm impressed you can go out on a Friday and pound out 10 miles at 9 mpm pace. You're pretty speedy out there yourself!!!

Sara- good luck with your 5K this weekend.

Kevin- good for you for getting your 5K training run in a 9:45 mpm pace. At least you got the steps in, right?

Lily  Welcome Back! I'll have to go over and read your trip report. I hope you had a great trip. Just in case you missed it while you were gone. I'm official!!! I signed up and sent my money in for the 2007 WDW Full Marathon. This is due in large part to you. So I'll see you in January!

Michael- I wish I could help you. Good luck with the knee pain. I'll send you some PD though. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Jackie- Welcome back!!! Thanks for posting. I'm so glad you had a good run. Good for you. :cheer2: Congrats on the Garmin. Have fun with it!!!

Erik- good luck on the JPMCCC tomorrow! We're supposed to have 10,000 runners at our race tomorrow night. I know that's nothing compared to your race, but I hope you have fun. I'll be right there with you across the pond.

Thanks for all the support everyone! :grouphug:

It really means a lot to be able to post my really bad days as well as the good ones. Nobody in my "real life" understands the mental aspect of running. It is tough!!! I feel like I'm going  sometimes. My mom actually asked me the other day, "So are you already done with running?" Sheesh! But I didn't get upset because I knew that she just doesn't understand. But you guys do and you always seem to pull me through with love. :lovestruc

Since this weekend is the only one we have open for a 5K in June I decided to take the leap and do it! I guess I will definitely find out just how much I've regressed. I had originally convinced dh that we could do 2 in July to make up for it, but you all convinced me that I need to JUST DO IT! :cool1:

I also set a small goal that I think will help: I want to have a new training plan firmly decided on by this Saturday. That way after the race, when I feel like a runner again, I can easily glide right back into training.

Now I'm completely open to suggestions as far as training plans go. What's working for you all?

Hello Again Everyone:

So my wife and I had a great anniversary weekend. My SIL came out from Cleveland to watch the princesses princess: princess:, and we drove out to Niagara Falls Sunday afternoon around 1:30p. It took about 90 min to get there, and we checked into our beautiful hotel the DoubleTree Niagara Fallsview. We relaxed in our room for a bit, and then went to the Skylon Tower for an early dinner in the revolving dining room at the top of the tower. The food was pretty good, nothing great, but the views were spectacular. Fantastic view of all of the falls. We finished dinner, and since we were only a block from our hotel went back to our room to rest before the Cirque Niagara show at 8pm. Great show. Not quite the same level as Cirque du Soleil, but very entertaining. It was a Russian troupe with lots of horses and trick riding. Very cool. I arranged for a late checkout of our room so we could sleep in on Monday. We slept in, had a large, late breakfast, and my wife went off to the spa treatments I got her for our anniversary. I had made reservations for a 60 min full body massage followed by a 30 min facial. While DW was getting her treatments I went out for a slow run. Left the hotel, walked down to the Skylon Tower and saw a sign that said "stairs to the Falls". Walked down the steps, and I ended up in a beautiful garden with blooming irises. I was on Niagara Parkway right by the falls, and just wogged up the street. I took it really slowly because I still had the big breakfast in my belly, and because I was taking in the sights. I would run 10 mpm for a while, and stop and walk when I felt like it. All and all I did 4 miles in about 60 min (15 mpm pace). Very relaxing. I got back to the hotel, went for a swim in the pool, stretched, packed up, checked out, and picked up DW. It was just a 24 hour getaway, but boy it felt great. It was so nice to have a day just with my DW and reconnect a little - so to speak...

Dena - I'm so sorry to hear about your discouragement. I think that is something everyone goes through! I told some girl about 3 weeks b/4 last yrs. goofy that i was never running on pavement again. I've got to learn not to say never! Anyway, I'm sure you'll be able to get back into it! So much of it is mental and you are an athlete and a runner, so you may be a little slower when you start back, but you'll be back up to speed in no time. I'm glad you signed up for the 5k!

Sunny - The RtB sounds like so much fun. I wish I could do it! I've got to work on the feather this week.

Christa - how did you get so fast in the water???? I've been trying to swim since this time last yr. and it takes me about 10 minutes longer than you to swim the mile!!!! I'm doing that tri (of road) in a week and 1/2 but it is a really short swim! I think I'm going to do 1/2 ironman in August and I know I can do the 1.2 mile swim but I'm thinking i might freak out being in the lake that long. BTW, I forgot you are an LPC. That is so funny. I'm a rehab couns (or used to be). I was thinking that you and I are kindred spirits, but your spirit is much faster than mine :rotfl2:

Judy - I loved the race report!!! You did great! Watch out WDW!

Carrie - EEEEEEKKKK. I'm not sure I would run across that bridge!

Dave - That is great (in a hard core athlete way) that you went for a run while your wife was getting the massage. I'm not sure which I would have chosen!! Anyway, you are truely an athlete!

Dave - So glad you had a great trip! You are sweet to think I am fast...I was just meeting Bree at a certain time and had to be there on time...the run was really hard that day b/c it was SO HOT! So my pace was not that great.

Melissa - OH NO! I am SLOW in the H2O! My time I posted yesterday was just for 25 laps...I did not time the last 10 b/c DD was on my back! I normally do about 10 laps (20 lengths or 500 yrds) in 14 min! I would be faster if I could breath on both sides, but can only master the left....And I forgot you were a Rehab Counselor! Cool! I just had to put down a chunck of $$ for my insurance - so if I got sued! Gotta protect myself..... :teeth:

Sunny - I now remember the RtB...Was it that relay?

Hope everyone is doing great! I must pull myself off the boards to go to work!

Dave - That is great (in a hard core athlete way) that you went for a run while your wife was getting the massage. I'm not sure which I would have chosen!! Anyway, you are truely an athlete! Ha, ha, ha... well what I wanted to do was get a sports massage, but they didn't have any appointments open for that. So I let my wife have the spa openings and I went for a wog. Don't think it would have gone over so well for me to get a sports massage, and left my wife trying to figure out how to spend the hour...

Dave - Thanks for the note. The 5 Miler was tough in the heat, but compared to the Marathon, it was nothing (distance wise). I think that is why I was able to keep a faster pace than normal. That is lightly slower than my 5K paces, but still good and I'll take a PR ANYDAY!

BTW - Cam went to Lafayette College (Easton, PA) for her undergraduate studies. We met through a service club (Circle K) that we were both involved with on the PA state level.

The RtB looks challenging... not something I can commit to right now but thank you for the invite. When is that with respect to the DL Inaugural Half? Isn't it about the same time? I am running in the DL Half.

I am in a post-marathon "take it easy" you have a million other things to do time. No training, no cross training at the moment. I will get back into it once our DD graduates and things get back to semi-normal.

Happy training everyone! :grouphug:

Morning all!!!

Carrie-- Sorry about not stopping by. ;) I ended up about 45 minutes south of you, if that makes you feel any better.

Judy-- Awesome job on the improptu 5K. I would have taken off too. :thumbsup2

Dave-- Glad to hear you had such a wonderful trip!

Michael-- Like Colleen and Carrie, my very first thought was your shoes. Running shoes are far better for both walking and running than a crosstrainer will be, generally speaking. They tend to be a bit harder-wearing and better in terms of shock-absorption. If you happen to be built a little bigger than the average "runner" frame, that goes double. Make sure you ice down your knees for now and then see if it persists. If it does, get thee to a running store and see about getting fitted for some new shoes. (Just my .02, of course. :teeth: )

Today is a crosstraining day for me-- weights and cardio at the gym. (Does sitting in my swealtering office count as crosstraining to??) Tomorrow I am supposed to do another run, but we will see. I'm playing in a golf outing and have a 7:30am tee time :rolleyes1 so that means a morning run is probably out and I am volunteering during the afternoon groups, so I think an evening run might be out too.... play it by ear, I guess. Thankfully it looks like the weather will become markedly more comfortable as the week progresses, so a weekend long run might be in order.

Happy training!

Sunny - I totally forgot to comment on the whole b-day party thing. I'm a b-day party underachiever! I am also a SAHM! I think we all have our different styles. They boy would not really notice a big difference in having a few friends meet us at the park for a "treasure hunt" (we are teaching him the navigation skills w/ the map early) and a huge themed party for which i shelled out mega bucks! This year we did the park thing w/ an easter egg hunt. last year, we just had a small family party and then another one 2/ two of his good friends out at the rock where we climb. He still remembers it and enjoyed it. I know we athletes tend to measure our personal sucess by numbers, but I'm sure your little one does not think that way! He knows you love him no matter the b-day party style :-). Oh,yeah, I forgot to share another part of my underachiever's philosophy: that is, you can benefit from other's desire to overachieve w/ their kid's b'day party! You don't have to do any planning or shell out big bucks to rent extrovagant things, you just show up to their big party and your kid gets to play w/ all that cool stuff and do those cool things, then you get to go home (not having to stay and clean up and return all the rental stuff) and enjoy the fond memories w/ your kid!

Christa - I actually let one of my certifications expire. I'll probably keep the other one (Cert Rehab Couns), but I'm not going to do that same job again unless forced to! All my clients were already involved in litigation anyway, so I had to shell out the ins. bucks too! I kept it up for a few yrs. just in case i got sued after the fact. If I followed my counseling passion, I would go and take a few more classes and do Mar and fam therapy (like what you doing), but..... my ears are so fryed from listening to the incessant talking of the boy that I'm not sure i could engage the listening part of my brain in any constructive way!!!! My fantasy job would be w/ a chuch b/c often they aren't equipped to deal w/ marriage probs, but UGHH it just seems like too much work to go back to school and actually have a job :teeth: :guilty:

Good morning everyone! :sunny: Thank you all for the congrats on my "non-event". :goodvibes Today I am still a little stiff and sore (and my old knee hurts but it did prior to Monday. Me thinks I need new running shoes too!) but I did my TM thing this morning: 45 min @ 3.8 @ 1%. I didn't run though. But it was a good strong walk. :thumbsup2

Hey guess what! DH registered for the Half last night! He KILLS me! :lmao: This morning he's all about figuring his pace and estimating his time and oh he's so funny! :rotfl:

Is Papa Deuce still hanging out with us? I haven't seen any posts from him... :confused3

Dave - I'm really glad to hear you guys had a wonderful time! :cloud9: It sounded like a great little getaway. You're "reconnect....so to speak" comment gave me a chuckle. ;) Congratulations on the new running shoes!

Dena - I think your on the right track. :thumbsup2 I hear you about the people IRL not understanding. That's why this place is the best. Congratulations on just "doing it"! :cheer2: I'm sure the 5K will be the start of something good.

Christa - Please. There is NO WAY anyone could call you SLOW in the water or out! :smokin:

Howard - I know Cam's busy now, but....well....I miss her. Tell her I said hi. :wave2:

OK off I go, pretending to work, while all the while I'm actually looking for local 5Ks.... :surfweb:

Hi, guys! Another drive-by posting here.
First, let me apologize. Life is crazy with work commitments, working on the after prom committee, planning for graduation weekend, dealing with DD17's drama revolving around breaking up with her boyfriend, prom tomorrow night, her friend arriving from Texas Friday, graduation this Sunday, etc., etc., etc.

The 5 miler Saturday was more onerous than I'd expected. The sun was blazing hot. :sunny: The course is beautiful and the residents were out in front of their houses, encouraging participants. Many people had their hoses out and would spray you if you wanted. Also, the fire company had 2 pumpers out and were spraying water on the course.

The really odd thing was that by the time the walkers at my pace approached any water station, it was broken down from 6 or 8 tables total to one table on each side and you had to wade through many, many plastic cups to get to the very last tables to get water. It seems a better idea would have been to leave the earliest water tables set up at each water stop and clean up the others. Also, if you are going to rake up the plastic cups, do it from the middle of the course out, not the outside. Just a few observations. :confused3

Overall, it was extremely enjoyable. :thumbsup2 My gun time showed a 15:30 pace, but my garmin time was a very solid 15:15 pace. Unfortunately, at the finish, they were collecting bib stips by 3 different people with absolutely no precision on timing or order. So, I was really glad to have my Garmin to give me an accurate read.

I regret that I hadn't trained to do intervals for this race. I just hadn't put the steps in ahead of time, so I am grateful to have maintained the pace even in my unprepared state.

I learned a couple of things from this race.
What I did right:
1. Took aleve beforehand for my hip and stretched a lot, and it absolutely unequivocally made all the difference in the world. No noticeable pain at all.
2. Wore a visor. Sun was wicked, so having that shade my face a bit was a huge help.

What I would do differently:
1. We walked about 3 miles before the race because our car was parked so far away and because I wanted to walk the boardwalk. It was good to warm up, but I might have been a tad faster if I hadn't 'warmed up' so much. :teeth:
2. Wicking material is critical in the heat. I wore a pair of wicking capris (not a bad choice, though shorts might have been better), but my shirt was cotton. Now I know. ;)
3. I would have worn my hip pack to carry a camera and take pix along the course and to carry a water/gatorade bottle. The gatorade would have helped. And I am much better at drinking from a water bottle than I am drinking from a cup!

Finally -- my goal was to not finish last. And if I was next to last, I didn't want the person behind me to be someone on crutches! :rotfl:

Overall, for women, I placed 2761/3056.

I had told my best friend that, based on last year's results, there should be about 300 people behind me. There were, in fact, 295 women PLUS however many men behind me. So, goal met. Lessons learned. On to training next week for the Disneyland Half. EEK!!!!

Love you guys and miss you all terribly. Will be back to catch up as soon as we survive at least the first wave of drama around here!

Carrie - you've created a monster out of phil and I. I asked him if we could go again this year, and he said "i'm hoping we do, I was looking forward to it!!!"

:teeth: As much as I'd like to take full credit, I believe there may have been a few others involved in your new obsession. As for going back to school, I hear ya'! I'm sure I coudl have other jobs that would be much more fulfilling than my current one, but I do not wnt to go back! (And no one's gonna' make me! ;) )

Really, the bridge looks scarier from a car than walking or running it! My VERY timid (afraid of heights, crowds, strangers, the world) niece, did it when she was 6! I checked teh bridge info and they say it's 4.994 miles long. But when I look at teh tiem and pace tehfor our results, I come up with 5.06, same as my Garmin. I'm so confused! Our positions were not pretty. I was 20/27 fo rmy age group and dh was 44/47. Really showed me how slow I am compared to the rest of the world. Or, maybe their silly little run just wasn't long enough. ;)

Cam & Howard- Oh, the drama. Would not want to be in your shoes! :wizard: Hope you re-surface soon!

Dave - Sounds liek a great getaway! WTG on earning those dw brownie points!!

Solo - OK, I'll forgive you this time. ;)

Dena - Even my parents, who were my hs scream team, did not fully understand some of our hard work last year. It is great that we have a place where people understand our frustrations! :goodvibes

Guess what???? My parents are already making arrangements to come in 2007!!!!! A quick recap for those who were not here last year: My parents, who only missed 2 races in my middle and hs career, had planned on coming. (At that timed I was glad they were coming, but afraid they may disrupt my vacation, bad me!) In June, dad was diagnosed with colon cancer. Surgery in July, started chemo in September (went to Feb). So, the marathon was a no go, along with their fall trip, along with postpoing their FL snowbirds time. (Oh, teh guilt that I originally was afraid they may disrupt my vacation)

The week before X-mas, dad calls my cell. :confused3 "I think we can make the marathon. My chemo appt is not until the Tues after adn it will be my good weekend. Doc says I can make the trip (driving from MI, abut 20 hrs each way)." Woo hoo! So, they come, but have to leave right after the race to put in their frirst 10-hr drive to make it home Monday night. Yikes! It was actually a very good break for both of them, but what a hard drive after!

So, I'm pretty darn excited!!! :cheer2: Hmmmm.... Wondering if I should get them shirts. :p Sorry for the ramble. Back to you training talk.

Speking of training, I skipped out yesterday. SUpposed ot be 10 degrees cooler today, so we pushed our runss back a day.

Carrie - The bridge is THAT long?? It's been a couple of years for me but now I know why hubby freaks when we drive over it. OK, maybe I did know it was that long and it just never clicked. That was before I started running, now miles mean something to me!!

I might join you next year, we are about a 5 hour drive and before we had kids, hubby and I used to spend a weekend in May at the Island!!

Carrie - Great pics! That actually does look fun... And I need to get a shirt order to you, too.

Cam - Great time. Good luck getting through all the drama. I feel for you - DD is just a freshman, and already I can feel the stress of that last year.

I'm feeling like a fair-weather runner here. I absolutely cannot convince my body that it wants to go out and run when the temp is 90. But I know that I can't expect much else until, oh, September... Weekends aren't too much of a problem since I can run before it gets too hot, but during the week it just isn't possible. Two days a week doesn't make much of a training program, though, so what's a poor Southern girl who doesn't like the heat (and doesn't have a treadmill) to do?

Another drive by post from me, but I absolutely have to go get some sleep real soon!

I did want to mention that I have new shoes! After my Minnie blisters, I realized that I was over due in that dept. Usually I ahve chosen walkers, but this time I went for running shoes! I am hoping that inspires me to jog a little more, and so far it seems to be working! I'm starting out real small with the jogging, hoping I can gradually increase the jogging time.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Not too much to report today. I didn't run yesterday to save my legs for the Chase Corporate Challenge tonight. I did 30 min on the elliptical though - plus a lot of strengthening and stretching exercises. I'm going to read Carrie and Lily's trip reports now.

Eric - good luck with your race this evening. Have fun with the other 64,000 runners. I'm curious to hear how it goes for you. We have 9,400 runners in our race, and I'm on the University of Rochester team with almost 300 runners. To be honest, I don't know anyone on the team, and I'm feeling a little strange going to this huge race by myself (DW is staying home with the princesses princess: princess: because it's there bedtime). I was thinking that this is the biggest race in Rochester and the only person I "know" running happens to be running in Frankfurt, Germany.

DH and I are running the same 1/2 marathon this weekend, that will be the first. We have always picked different marathons and races because we have no family in NC to help with the kids. Keep up the good work and being that positive influence on DH! :goodvibes

Jackie, aw, the heat here in NC, I hear ya. I can get to the YMCA treadmill when I need to, which helps when I need to get in a run. We will be up in Canada for 3 weeks in July so that should help with my Chicago marathon training.

MelR, glad you had some quality time with DH this past weekend. Thank goodness for grandparents. Cool that DH is thinking about the WDW marathon. :thumbsup2

MelR...do you guys geocache? I think it looks cool, but would require a different type of Garmin to do it correctly. There's supposed to be some stuff hidden around WDW.
For anyone that's interested, http://www.geocaching.com

Dave...your anniversary trip sounds wonderful! I've always wanted to see Niagara Falls.

Carrie...the bridge run sounds very cool! Loved your trip report! Now for my geographically challenged question...is that the bridge to the Mackinac Island from Somewhere in Time?

Cam...congrats on your race! :wizard: for getting through the end of high school with your DD but congratulations too!

Howard...congrats on your race!

Sunny...REALLY glad you seem to be doing better.

Judy...congrats on your race, though sorry the women's chat-run wasn't exactly what you were looking for ;)

Michael...I agree with the shoe theory. I bought some low-grade NB when I first started because I wasn't ready to lay out $100+ on running shoes, especially since I was 'just' walking. They lasted about 4 months before I got shin splints that were cured with rest and new shoes.

Nancy...are you in noodle-soup season again? I went through a neighborhood near mine when we left last week and saw a pool exercise class where the women were waving their noodles in the air :rotfl:

Speaking of leaving, we'll be heading home tomorrow :sad2: :sad2:
My last run was on Monday from SSR to DTD. Our room was in the paddock section of SSR, near the front entrance. It was about 3/4 of a mile away from DTD. A 3-mile loop took me all the way into Westside. Great running early in the morning...they have music piped into DTD, so no MP3 needed. My pace was good for miles 1 and 2, but the humidity was wicked that day so I walked mile 3. Overall time was 41 something. And I haven't run since. My foot's been bugging me (from all the walking :confused3 ) and I've been eating like crazy! Afraid to get near the scale when we get home

We're totally spoiled now from staying in this OKW 2BDR...may never be able to go back to a regular room ;)

Mel - The bridge actually goes from mackinaw City to teh upper peninsula. The sun in the sunrise pic is about wher ethe island is. Wow, can't eblieve you remebred where teh movie was. Hwoever, there is no bridge to teh island, as motor vehicles are prohibited. They've only allowed them on teh island once. You guessed it, for the filming. Glad you';re having such a great time! Oh, I hope my stay in a 2BR in January does not spoil me too much!

Dena - Love the pics! You look MAHHHHH-VA-LOIUS! :teeth:

Carrie - LOVE THE RACE REPORT!

I just love hearing about everyone's adventures! I am not signed up for anything right now so I am living through you guys and girls who are racing! :thumbsup2
I did nothing yesterday...just did not make time. Will be going around 10 miles tomorrow so will either swim or bike today. Having the DD's home for summer break is really messing up my workout schedule. :goodvibes

Melissa - is your race this weekend? :wizard: :wizard: to you!

Eric and Dave - :wizard: :wizard: on your races tonight! Look forward to hearing about them. So post ASAP! :teeth:

To everyone running in the HEAT! I feel your pain...I need to get up and be running by 0600 to get in a good run and I have not done that yet!

Cam - for your race! It looks like you did great!

Oh - Bree is looking so cute preg! B/C of her slackness of not posting, :lmao: I will try to remember to take my camra tomorrow so I can take a pic of her. I always walk a few miles with her after my LR.

Hello everyone. A rest day for me today. I noticed that I am not sore anymore. My knees stopped complaining and my left ankle doesn't hurt. This is good thing. :teeth:

Dena - OMG what a sweetheart he is! :cloud9: And WOW! You look FAB-U-LOUS! :thumbsup2

Nancy - Ohh thank you! I had a blast and can't wait to do the next race.

Colleen - Yes, I am a "bad" influence, aren't I? :rotfl: I'm proud of DH! But you know, he's going to be leaving me in the dust. He's so athletic....

Dave and Eric......waiting on those race reports.... :rolleyes1

But DW will run and I can post her experience.

Just in case you were wondering.....there are 108 days until the DL Inaugural half, 219 days until the WDW half, and 220 days until the WDW full. Yikes!! I'd better get walking!!

Anja (that's DW) just called on her cell after crossing the finish line: She did the race in 28 minutes, which translates to 8 minutes per mile. It's not as good as her time last year (25:40), but traffic was horrible and the temps were only 9°/48°F opposed to last year's higher temps.

Mel- We don't do the geocaching yet. Phil and I both have garmin rino's (gps w/ 2 way radio) that we use to set out navigation courses but the controls (the points we are looking for) are to be found using only a map and compass. We'll have to bring the rino's out when we come back to WDW to do the geocaching stuff. You could probably do it w/ a map and compass. You could get the coordinates from a web site, use your garmin to mark you current location and then maybe pace count and set a compass heading to find it????? Not sure if that would actually work.

Christa - the xterra is next weekend. I rode the bike trails today. The cutoff for the bike is 3hrs and I did all in 2:18 which included my stops so I'm a little more relaxed about it now. There is no way i'll be able to run the trun part though b/c the climbs are so steep and it is all trail. I'll be doing a lot of walking!

Today was a crazy ride! On the first trail, I was millimeters away from a HUGE TIMBER RATTLER!! It is only the 3rd one I've ever seen. (that's about 3 too many!) Then EC tried to do this really steep downhill and went right into a tree! I've never seen the human body wrap around a tree at that speed. It was a really crazy fall. She was fine, but she is going to be really sore!! I thought about telling her she needs a feather on her handlebars too. It might have given her enough lift to miss the tree.

We road the xterra course today. I did all the trails well w/in the bike cutoff. We didn't officially swim or run, but we did dip in the lake. It is going to be a disgusting swim as we were way out and could still feel the grass touching our feet! I still have to attach the feather. I don't want to look like a little bird though (nothing that will attract a hungry poisionous snake!)

Checking in:

I truly find it impossible to keep up with all of you both on the computer and in life! Everyone seems to be making great strides in their workouts. It is pretty awesome to read about Dave, Judy, and Jodi! I can't believe how much you have done!

I am struggling through Physical therapy for my hip/hamstring pain. Basically even walking will sometimes cause pain. I am periodically going for short walks - although, I did get 4 miles on the treadmill last weekend. I realize that when I started, I did too much too soon.

I love my bike trailer/stroller! It pushes like a breeze!

Dena, I understand what you are going through. I am the first to admit I have blown off alot of workouts. If my day gets busy, it is the first thing to go. It just doesn't always remain my priority - especially with the pain I am having.

Fellow moms - it is our job to feel guilty. I just finished school a year ago, work part time and am thinking about furthering my degree. Balance is hard. Having both a 15 year old and a 2 year old, I realize it doesn't get easier! :rotfl2: Hang in there ladies I am sure you are all GREAT moms! With or without the million dollar bday parties!

Off to go make dinner!

All I can say is DUDE! :hippie: That is crazy! I also HATE it when the grass touches my feet...that happened on my lake swim last weekend...I think it was a tree branch, but it totally FREAKED ME OUT! YOU SAW A SNAKE! :scared1:

Swam at the YMCA indoor pool today. Did another mile. I then got the DDs in and we all swam. I had a noodle and had DD5 on my back doing laps(so much easier) but then the lifeguard told me the noodles were only for swim workouts. WHAT DID SHE THINK I WAS DOING!?!?!?!?!? :furious: There was another woman in the pool with a noodle just "swim floating" really slow. I thought...I am working out WAY more than her! Dena - You look GREAT! You should be so proud of how much you've accomplished, and even prouder of your DH for doing that for you. How wonderful that he's aware that you're having doubts and knows just what to do!

Nancy - Good for you for deciding to get new shoes. The guys at the New Balance store told me I needed running shoes even if I was just walking, so maybe this will really help.

Dave - Can't wait for your race report!

Colleen - It's supposed to cool off a little this weekend - hooray! I'm sitting here watching the thermometer drop now - it's almost cool enough to go out and run, but DD cooked dinner and now I'm feeling lazy.

Mel - I'm so jealous reading about your running at WDW! I want to be where you are!

Eric - Sorry you're sick - was so excited to read your account of the race and so disappointed to find out we wouldn't get one! Your wife has big shoes to fill to give us all the details! Congratulations on her time, though - sounds like she did well considering the crowd and the weather.

Temp's down to 81. I'm going to give it a try!

Tuesday I got the okay to start walking and exsercising again. Wednesday, I got put back in PT. It seems with all my time on Long Island last year, I didn't properly rehab my shoulder after having the bicep tendon repaired. I am going back into therapy to stregthen and gain range of motion. Hopefully, that will eliminate the pain.

Monday, Lynne and I walked 3 miles around the lake at Beaver Lakes nature center. We took it slow, about 17 min mile, and my foot didn't hurt. Tues we went to Green Lakes State Park and I walked 3 miles while she ran 5. My foot felt fine until I came to a steep downhill. I thought the walk had undone 5 months of rehab. I iced the foot after getting home and it felt fine the next day. I took yesterday off to rest. I have decided I need to listen to my body and rest occationally instead of approaching training like a bull in a china shop.

Tonight, I walked for 27 min and covered 1.56 miles. My pace was only 17 min/mile but I would rather work on endurance instead of speed. I have to force myself to take it slow and build up gradually (unlike the first 2 walks).

I am going to see how walking goes before trying to walk/run. I also need to decide which race to do in January. I am undedcided between redoing the half to better my time or doing the full to get Mickey.

Everyone is doing a great job with their training. I am thinking about signing up for the Women's 5K in August to see how I am doing. Lynne thinks their will be a half in Watertown this fall I may try also.

Have a good weekend training.

Have to pop back in to report that I actually ran 3 miles in 37 minutes - first real run with the Garmin, and everyone is so right! I LOVE it - it makes such a difference to actually know how far I ran instead of having to guess, and it motivated me to keep going just to see the pace improve. The heat wasn't so bad after all... now I HAVE to go to bed after being up with a sick dog last night.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Oooooh, new smilies... :dogdance:
OK, I had a great run last night. It was the best I felt for a while. Had the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge last night at 7:00p. There were ~9,400 runners at the RIT campus at Rochester. My team, the University of Rochester, had the largest team @ 285 runners. Eric, there was a lot of mention of the Frankfurt race at the start of ours, and how you had ~63,000 runners for the largest race in the world. Great job by your DW, BTW. OK, I finished in 34:53 min, my Garmin clocked the course 3.64 miles for 9:35 mpm pace!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: Whoo hooo, I ran sub 10 min miles for the whole thing. I wasn't even trying to. I kept telling myself that I was just treating it as a training run. Because I have another 5K on Sunday that my Saturday running group has been training for. That's the race I was really shooting for. The race last night felt really easy. I walked at the first water stop to get a drink, but that was it. I just chugged along, my breathing felt really, really easy, and my legs felt alright too. I was a little worried about my shins because I had some soreness before the start. But they felt OK during the run, and I iced them when I got home.

So from January to now I've gone from the couch to sub 10 min miles of steady running. Whoo hooo!!! :thumbsup2

Maggie- Thanks for checking in. I'm really sorry to hear about your hip and hamstring pain. Ever since I've started running I've been struggling with shin and hip pain. Although, my hip pain went away as soon as I put on my new shoes. Hang in there, keep putting your steps in, listen to your body, and just do what you can do. Here's PD :tinker: :tinker: for your leg pain. I hope it helps.Fellow moms - it is our job to feel guilty. We let the princesses princess: princess: pick what they wanted to do for their birthday. Without hesitation DD5 princess: picked Chuck E Cheese, and she had an absolutely great time!

Christa- you should challenge that teeny-bopper LG to a run or TRI with you. Show her to mess with the Evil Queen!!!

Dena- I wanted to chime in that your pictures look great too. Good for you, and what a great husband you have to inspire you and motivate you like that. Stitch in your side... ha...

Jackie- Great to hear from you. How did your run go? Any pain?

Dena-how sweet & thoughtful of your DH :flower3: (and I'm lovin the new smiles too) You look great!

Dave-you have come such a long way & are doing great :thumbsup2 I remember when you first joined & had so many doubts & didnt even want to mention the marathon to DW. There's no way she cant see how committed you are now :dumbo: (or as people IRL think, that we "need to be" committed :confused3 )

Christa-wow , you are doing great with the swimming. It's funny how lifeguards "change" the rules for how they feel like using them. I'd like to see any one of them swim a mile & then do more laps with an extra 45lbs on their back :sad2:

Kathy-glad you're able to get back to some walking. Take it easy & dont push too hard & get re-injured.

I'm sorry I haven't been posting much lately. I guess I've gotten into a funk since my training plan has gone caput. I've been lurking & keeping up with everyone though. Oh, and did I mention I leave for WDW in 6 days :drive: I can't wait (although the oppressive heat , I'm not looking forward to) So I've also been doing alot of planning for that trip & I have to go full swing into VBS when I get back. (I'm one of the directors & we have around 800 kids attend)

I think I've decided to start going to WW meetings. I may even start before we leave town so I dont totally blow it out of the water while I'm gone. I found a place near me with meetings that alot of the moms at DS school goes too. Summer is hard for me to stick to a routine & that's what I need to stay OP. I also have to figure out how to get in my runs with DS's home from school & DH working. DL is coming up fast. Got to put in those steps.

Have a great Friday everyone!

Wha?? When did I get roped into this!?! :confused3 :teeth: Your race report made it sound so cool-- I'll have to think about it.

Great to hear that your parents will be making the trip again this year. :thumbsup2 I think shirts are definately in order.

Cam-- Great job on your 5 miler!! :thumbsup2

Dena-- How cool!!! That page is great!

Eric-- Too bad about your race. Get well soon!

Kathy-- Good to hear you've got the all-clear to exersice again.

Jackie-- Oh look, another Garmin convert!! :goodvibes I feel like they should be paying us a marketing fee considering how many folks we have collectively turned on to them here.

Judy-- Very cool about your DH signing up for the half. No turning back now, I guess. :)

I had a great crosstraining day on Wednesday which my poor legs are still recovering from. Yesterday I spent all day playing golf (rough life, but someone's gotta live it...) which I guess counts for something. For the record, I am a much better runner than golfer, which really says something about my golf game. :teeth: Thankfully I play with people who are only out there to have fun and are not super-serious about it. I am hoping to get some runs in this weekend, but we will play the distances by ear for now.

Work is calling me back-
Happy training all!

Dave - Actually, I have fallen lately (sadly) It was a doosie too, but I think crashing and mt. biking must just go together! I think I have improved some though. Yesterday, I had the revelation that i am probably not going to have a big mt. biking breakthrough. It is bascially making a mental catalogue of how to do different technical sections and it is just going to take a long time for me to overcome the fear of pain and crashing and build that library!!! Speaking of breakthroughs though, you clearly have become quite a fast RUNNER. Great job on your run last night! That is alot of progress from couch potato status!

I have a question about Garmins vs. heart rate monitors. I have a Garmin 101 so it does not do HR. Generally, it tells me I burn about 100 calories per mile. Biking (on the road is usually much less) I just got a HRM and yesterday after riding for 2hrs and 18mins (mt. biking) it said I had burned over 1800 calories!! I could not run 18 miles in 2:18. Anyway, which is more accurate? I really don't want to get low on calories and it is so hard to eat on the bike!! Does anyone know or have an opinion on this??

I'm with you Maggie though I only have on DS (12). I have been going to school so long he wouldn't know what to think if I didn't have homework. Though this master's degree is starting to kick my hinny so to speak.

With working full-time and going to school part-time all these years I've always been concerned if I was being a good enough mom so I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with these feelings.

Just a quick update:

I had xrays and a follow up appointment with my doctor and all seems to be going well. I was told to be careful as the lung could "pop" again if I did too much. I should be good to go though to fly to Florida in 5 weeks.

I do want to get back to walking even if it is slow to build up some sort of endurance again. I am certain I have lost everything and it will be like starting over but anyting is better than nothing.

Happy training everyone!!!!!!!!

Time to catch up with everyone!

Judy - you did awesome and I don't care what you say, it was a race!

Michael - :wizard: for your knee pain

Jackie - I knew you'd love your Garmin! I share DH's and it keeps me entertained. Now we both have to keep up with our runs, or in my case, wogs.

Cam - you guys are so busy lately! And I thought I was busy...

Carrie - that's awesome your parents made it to your race last year.

Dena - your DH is awesome - great page! And you are the incredible shrinking woman! 55lbs.? WOW!

MelR - snake?! :scared1:

Minnie - more :wizard: - take care of yourself!

I haven't done a blessed thing since my wog on Tuesday. :sad2: I am so bad lately! I'd like to get outside today, but I tonight is my midnight madness scrapbooking and I have to get a nap in before then. I get up at 3am for work, so I will never make it to midnight if i don't sleep. I also forgot to go get my allergy shot yesterday, so I have to fit that in this afternoon also.

Speaking of doctors - my bloodwork came back all normal. Thyroid right in the middle of the normal range. My good cholesterol is still low, but they said it was normal. I know otherwise since my mom is a lab tech. They didn't list blood sugar on my postcard, but they were supposed to draw for it. Oh well!

So, I am frustrated beyond belief and I am switching to WW Core until I get to goal. Come heck or high water...I am getting to goal! ;)

I not only signed up for DL under a charity, I mailed my registration for the WDW 1/2 today! I didn't even tell Chad yet. He's wanted me to mail it, but I kept putting it off until we had more money. I finally did it to motivate myself and to be sure it didn't close before I registered. I want to find a couple local races this summer.

I have registered for:
DL 1/2
DL 5k
WDW 1/2

So, if this doesn't get my behind moving, nothing will! :teeth:

Oh, and I bought "The Courage To Start" for my friend who goes to Weight Watchers with me. She is so unmotivated to exercise, but she really needs to (I know, ironic this is coming from me!). So, I got the book of eBay. It came yesterday and now I am reading it. It's really good! Hopefully, she won't mind her used gift when I bring it to our meeting next Wednesday. :rotfl:

We are going up to the house on Sunapee this weekend. Hopefully the rain will hold off somewhat for us to use our new kayak (crosstraining?). I'd also like to do my walk/run up there on both Sat & Sun. But we'll see. I have to fill-in at work this Sunday, so I am commuting to Boston for the morning shift - there goes half my day.

Well, you'll all be glad to know I am a total bum. :( I didn't train this morning. And after reading all the replies from you parents I have to say, I don't know how you do it. I could not get out of bed this morning because I was sooooo tired. We have WAY too much to do. My life is just one big long to-do list. And we don't even have full-time kids! DH has four that come up every other weekend. And he has them one night a week, during which he stays at his parents because it's closer to their schools. There just isn't enough time to get everything done. Thank goodness we have a cleaning service that come in twice a month. I didn't go to bed last night until 10:30 so there is no way I could get up at 4:30. But I had so many things to get done. Important things. Like laundry. :laundy: They don't take too kindly to me showing up nekkid at work. I seriously don't know how you people who work and have kids find time to train. You are awesome and I bow to your greatness. :worship:

Christa - You shoulda whacked that LG with your noodle! ;)

Eric - I hope you are feeling better today. :tinker:

Dave - OMG that is SOO awesome! :thumbsup2 Wow! That's fabulous! You must be so happy! We are proud of you!!! :cheer2:

Kevin - That's what I told DH when he was just about to click "Submit". I said "You sure you want to do this? Cause this is it, there's no turning back now". And he went "Click". :teeth:

Minnie - We are right here for you and if you need to start all over again, we'll be with you every step of the way. :flower3: I know this may be a hard questions, but, umm, are you going to ride again?

OK, off to find a place to get my passport. We leave in six weeks. Maybe I won't have it by then and I won't have to, I mean be able to go! :smokin:

Minnie-- I'll start again if you will :grouphug:

I am completely side-lined. Today's diagnosis: herniated disk, sciatica

The good news is I found a real human doctor with a real human receptionist. They are very nice and treated me as if I were in need of attention, which I am. I've been in constant nearly unbearable pain for days. Today I got Vicadin :sad2: I hate taking meds, but this pain is too much.

Drs orders (which I will obey 'cause he's really a human): absolutely no spine-loading exercise until I see him again next week. That means no running, weights, etc. but I can swim and I can do elliptical and recomb. bike in moderation. And believe me, at this point I am all for moderation.

Its very doubtful that I'll be able to train for this now. But I'm still heading up coordinating a team if anyone is interested!

Sunny - Herniated disc??? Ouch! Please be a very good girl and follow the drs. orders! Which disc does your doc. say is herniated?

I'm with you as soon as you are able :wizard: :grouphug:

I know the pain that you are experiencing. Last year when I was diagnosed with a sacrum issue it ended up being a herniated disk that irritated the sciatica. End result was an MRI to make sure of the diagnosis (it took me 2 chiros and 2 drs before I found one that understood and helped me) and then I ended up with injections and pain pills and I hate to say this - rest.

One thing that my physcial therapist suggested that helped was just hanging in the deep end of the pool with a noodle wrapped around my back. This helped put traction on my back and relieved the sciatica slighly.

I am so so so sorry this happened to you :grouphug: :grouphug:

To everyone that has sent :grouphug: or :wizard: thank you so much :goodvibes . You all are an inspiration in helping others when they are down and celebrating the good times also :goodvibes

Judy - Oh yes I will be riding again. Not any time soon as I am not allowed to and I have to be a good girl so that I can get on that airplane in 5 weeks to go to WDW :teeth: . This is not the first time I've taken a fall but I will say this was the scariest one

I do need some sort of endurance though to handle WDW so I'm planning atleast to start walking on my tm again :hourglass

Happy training everyone :sunny:

Dave - What a GREAT time! You have really come a long way in such a short time. I'm hoping I can keep pace with you guys! And no pain last night - hooray! I think I may finally be over the worst - I can still tell there are tender spots, but I'm really careful not to overdo it and stretch really well.

Sunny - Ouch! Listen to the human doctor. Take it easy, and don't be afraid to take the meds. Give this one a chance.

Kevin - Garmin should definitely pay you guys - I would never even have thought of buying anything like this if I hadn't read all your stories. Now I'm just worried that we may need two for when DH is out of town and wants to take it with him!

Mel - I wish you lived closer. My brother owns a bike shop and does coaching and bike fitting on the side. I'd love to get you together with him to see if he could offer pointers to make mountain biking not such a chore! I, of course, won't be caught dead on a bike other than on a flat road, so I'm no help at all.

Minnie - We're all here to cheer you on, every step. Just take it slow and easy!

No running here tonight - it's pouring rain with lots of thunder, but DD says she wants to run with me in the AM, so maybe then... Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi WISH Team!

Dave! WTG! Now don't overdo. You are doing fantastic for sure. I am so proud of you!

Sunny, seems like all those aliens are taking you down. pixiedust: for you that all works out well. Do what you are able and don't get too frustrated.

MelR, can't answer your quesiton for certain. I'd be interested in the answer if anything comes along.

All who afre healing, it is great to hear that you are progressing. WISHing you continued positive progress.

I'm not making progress here. I've got many irons in the fire getting in my way or maybe I'm letting them get in my way. I'm hoping to get out tomorrow to at least put some kind of steps in. Work is nasty. Seriously considering a major change there on my behalf not theirs.

I'm going to try to read more of what all have been up to.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Thank you so much everyone for all the congratulations on my race at the Chase Corporate Challenge on Thursday. I really appreciate the support. Not too much to report for me today. I had my yoga x-training yesterday. Oooh, that 50 min of stretching felt good, but the 10 min of laying on my back relaxing felt the best! :thumbsup2 I'm taking a rest day today before my 5K tomorrow.

Sunny- I'm so glad you found a human doctor out there. I'm so sorry you may have a herniated disc though. Take care of yourself :wizard: :tinker: :wizard:, and be very careful with that Vicoden too.

Dave! WTG! Now don't overdo. You are doing fantastic for sure. I am so proud of you! Good advice Lily - I have to remember to not overdo and injure myself. The 5K tomorrow is the one that we've been building towards in my AP Learn to Run group at Fleet Feet. So it's my last session with that running group. After that 5K, I think I should take a "rest week". Maybe I won't do any running, and just do some elliptical work to give my legs a break and recover. Or maybe I'll see if I can do some deep water running. That sounds more appealing now that the temps are increasing.

So my Saturday running group is ending this week. However, Fleet Feet is now offering a Distance Training Program that starts in a couple of weeks. I pasted the blurb from their website below. It specifically to train you to run a Fall full or half marathon. They also said it would give you a good base if you want to run a marathon after the program ends - like the WDW Marathon!!!

Distance Training Program is BACK - Wanna do a Fall Full or Half Marathon or just get faster at 5 or 10K's, then this is for you. Join the program that brings you a 15 - 18 week training schedule, group training opportunities, stretching workshops, nutrition workshops and more....

This program will train you for any Fall long distance event including Chicago Marathon, Wine Glass Marathon, NYC Marathon, Rochester or Marine Corp Marathon or any halves or fulls in between

Hey everybody! Haven't posted in awhile, so I thought I'd drop by to say hi. I always tell myself I need to keep up with this thread more often, then life gets in the way. Go figure.

Dave--congratulations on your race. That's a great pace!

Sunny--I can't imagine how painful that must be. Get better soon.

Christa--doing a mile swim and THEN pulling your kids around the pool? I'm tired just thinking about it.

Ok, so I'm pretty excited about my new toy. I finally bought a road bike. It's a Specialized Allez Sport, an entry level bike, but it's a huge upgrade from my former hybrid bike. I bought a pair of clipless pedals and shoes and I can't even begin to describe how much different my rides are now. I've improved my pace for an hour long ride from 18 mph to 22mph. It's amazing. But here's the not-so great part. Last Saturday was my first ride with the bike and I took it down to one of the bike trails around here. I was cruising along doing about 23 mph and I saw a tree down on the trail up ahead. I had passed this tree on my way out and realized it was just leaves sticking out onto the trail, so because I didn't want to slow down too much and no one else was around to worry about maneuvering around, I decided to keep my pace and just brush the leaves out of my way. Big mistake. There was a branch hidden behind the leaves and it caught me in the chest as I passed the tree. It spun me around and I was thrown to the pavement and slid about 25 feet down the path. Amazingly, the bike was just fine (I scraped one of the hoods, but that's it). I was a little beat up, though. I lost a lot of skin on the side of my leg and arm and I probably would have messed up my hands pretty good if I hadn't been wearing gloves. Everything has healed pretty well since last week, but I'm still a little worried about my ribs. It hurts to breathe sometimes and doing any core exercises hurts my chest. It may be just a bruise, but I should probably get an x-ray just be sure. I have a triathlon tomorrow (6 miles of rowing instead of swimming, 6 mile run, 18 mile bike), and I feel fine for that, but I may see the doctor next week if I still hurt.

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well. I'll have to catch up on the whole thread for the week to see what everyone's been up to.

Talk to you all later!

O.k. folks ~ my mom is really making me think hard about doing the full marathon in 2007. She called today & asked if I was ever going to do a full & I told her I wanted to but DH wasn't wanting to go to WDW again in Jan (mostly because of $$ since I will have been 3 times this year plus DL) she said if I wanted to she would help me training wise & financially. WOW that makes it hard not to do it. Her condition was that I go to the Dr. first because of my "episode" with dizziness & stuff at the Minnie. I was planning on going anyway.

I told her Cam was doing it & doing the DL 1/2 & if she can do it I can do it. See how inspiring you are Cam ?! I am going to have to think about whether I can dedicate that much time to training.

Just wanted to let you guys know of the new development. Have a great weekend.

Steven - so sorry about your crash. If you've been reading posts, you know I'm a mountain biking crash expert! I do not believe in crashing my road bike!!!!! I think a road bike crash could be catastrophic due to speed! That is great that you got a road bike. I totally love riding on the road. It is amazing what a difference the right bike makes. when I switched from mt. to road i had a significant increase in speed. When I switched from a cheap trailer (for the boy) to a light weight one, it took about 5 minutes off my biking loop time and the boy and I were able to increase our distance 2 to 3 times!! Sadly, now the boy uses the trail a bike which is significantly heavier and i don't want to attach it to my road bike seatpost, so it's back to mt. bike for our rides together. I hope you heal quickly and get Krista a bike for her b-day!!

Jackie - I wish I had a coach too! I do fine on my road bike, but the mt. biking just scares me (gee, I wonder why??) After nexts weekend's off road tri (xterra) I'm becoming a roadie for a while again!

Phil and I went out for a 10 mile run. It was very hilly (over 900meters of climbing) Our pace was around 10:35mpm. Glad to have that done!!

Wow! Gotta love Moms!! I think WDW would be hard to pass up under these circumstances. :Pinkbounc I am walking my first full at WDW, and when I am not  wondering what I am thinking, I am really excited about that Mickey medal. It will be fun....

In my boredome of not training, I added some WISH art to my CafePress site. Note: This is unofficial WISH stuff. I left the DISboards.com logo off because it's not mine to use. I'm going to order a shirt to see what the quality is like. I've never ordered from there but Carrie says it is reputable. MelR was the one that found the neat site last year.

So, check it out if you'd like. They have a lime green cotton T. Don't confuse it with the real shirt orders that Carrie is taking, the shirts at CafePress are NOT wicking material!

Steve - Ouch! Hope your ribs feel better soon. From what I hear, bruised ribs hurt almost as bad as broken ones, so maybe that's all you did. Can't trust those branches...

Tiff - If I had someone offering to fund my trip, I'd be signing up. Although I'm not ready to commit to even the 1/2 yet, I'm pretty sure I'd find the time if I had the $$$. If you have supportive family members, go for it!

Dave - Good luck tomorrow!

Ran/wogged 3.25 miles with DH this morning. I hate to admit it, and can't to him, but I train much better with you guys in my head than with him in real life! We end up arguing over whose training style is better and I just end up frustrated. He keeps telling me that everyone trains better with a partner and I'm thinking "but I have about 75 of them...they just live in my computer."

But I can't complain about DH too much... (Kevin, you're gonna love this one) after our run, he decided sharing the Garmin wasn't going to work, so he took me to the running store we discovered last weekend and bought me my own Garmin! So we went from having none a week ago to owning 2 this weekend (he has the 301, I have the 201). Then we went and drove the course for the 5K I'm doing next weekend - definitely more hills than at WDW, so I need to make sure I find some hills this week.

Now I'm off to do some more scheming to see if there's any way to swing a trip - my niece is getting married in July, and the wedding is only 10 miles from Disneyland, and DH and DD have never been...

Just checking in! Had my "stampede" 5K today...it was a bit rough. The temps were nice, around the low 60s...perfect for running. Unfortunately, it was pouring down buckets all day LOL! Now for the weird part.....SAME race number as last 5K....SAME exact finish time as last 5K. Finished in 29:31 which is very disappointing considering the goal is to always better your previous time...BUT....I did it and had fun which is most important! I had to start in the back of the pack (waiting for fellow runner to get out of the bathroom lol). So I think that definitely hurt my time....last race I was somewhere in the middle and didn't get caught up in the back. I had to get around the crowds to start my pace which may be why I felt like I was running faster but still finished with the same time??? Who knows...but overall I'm feeling good tonight and at least I got out there in the rain and did it!!!

Dena.....did you race today? How did it go??????

Steve - Hope the ribs are ok. Congrats on the new bike.

Jackie - Cool, your very own Garmin! :cool1:

Sunny - Haven't really caught up on the thread. How are you feeling?

This week has been a little more hectic than I thought and so will next week.
Unfortunately, my aunt passed away this morning :sad1: She was my Mom's younger sister. Found out about a month ago that she had a malignant tumor in her stomach. She was never sick until she passed out a month ago. That's when she found out.

My Mom's really upset. They were very close. So I'm trying to comfort her and was taking her back and forth to see my aunt in the last few days. The funeral is this week, so it'll be another tough one.

Funny thing is, I'm not that upset about her passing. I kinda feel weird about that. I will miss her. We had some fun times together. But she took care of my uncle for 8 years (he had bone cancer and was bedridden for several years before he passed away nine years ago). My aunt always said she never wanted to go through that or put her kids through that. So when I saw her yesterday, lying in the bed, half out of it, with tubes in her, I knew that she would never want to live like that. I can't even call it living. It was more like existing.

When we got the call this morning that she passed, I felt relieved that she wouldn't suffer any longer. It hit her really quick and I'm glad she didn't linger. It just seems weird to feel this way, when everyone else is crying and upset.

I'll try to check in and keep up on things this week. I've got to get training for the DL 1/2 before I go into panic mode.

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt. My mother went through the same thing when she lost her sister, they were best friends and since they were both widows, they did everything together. God bless.
