I'll take Andy's lead and start an almost live thread and then change it to live once we get on board.

We fly out tomorrow morning and after checking into our hotel at the port will be heading up for New Smyrna Beach for the first of many DIS meets for an early dinner. After dinner we head back to the port for another DIS meet at the Radisson. Then come Saturday we are meeting up with still more DISers for breakfast at Grills and then the big event - the cruise we've been waiting for since December of 2004.

We are the blabbermouths - you may know us from the cruise meets board where we've had over 45,000 posts as we got to know each other. Some of us cruised together on the 10 day in December of 2004 while many more are meeting for the first time!

I am so looking forward to this!

Could it be that the Black Pearl will be in CC for this inaugaral (sp) double dip? When you mentioned any special double dip pins, I wondered if DCL will be surprising the people on this first "special" sailing?

Just something my warped disney mind thought up as I read this thread.

Do I get to post on the "Almost Live" thread even though I still have to work tomorrow? That's the price I pay for living close to the port. (Oh well... it's great the other 51 weeks of the year!!!) All of you who are travelling tomorrow AM, think of Jim, Sharon, me, and anyone else who is stuck at their desk, trying hard to contain their excitement for 8 more hours!!!!!

Can't believe that we've been through 45,000 posts, lots of laughs, heartaches, illness, recoveries, celebrations, etc... and most of us haven't even met yet!!! This week is going to be great! (If only GaRry & Susan's families could be with us, it would be PERFECT... but we'll keep sending our P&PD their way!!!)

I'll see ALL of you within the next 36 hours!!!! Wooo hoooo!!!

Here we are live from the Cove Cafe! So far the trip has been great!

As Mark said we had dinner last night with 28 DISers at JB's Fish Camp. Then over to the Radisson where we met up with more DISers. A special visit from GaRry who was supposed to sail with us and had to cancel. He'll be waving at us from Grills at sailaway!

We are again known as "those shirt people" as we filled the terminal with DISers. I like the new boarding procedures. We were in the #2 group and it was nice not to have to sit/stand in a long line but instead grab a group of seats and get to know everyone!

Well off to check the main thread and then to do more exploring of the ship.

We are ready to party!

Just checking in before heading up to the 3pm DIS meet.

Castaway Club gift is still the white beach bag that we got last year in September.

We are having a presentation from Ducky Williams on this cruise so that is very exciting.

Nothing else special I've seen as far as it being a Double Dip. Of course the whole reason behind the Double Dip (the two stops at Castaway Cay) is special enough for me. That and sailing with such a great group of DISers.

Good morning everyone! First off thanks for all the great photos. I know my fellow DISers will be thrilled with them as well.

Mel - to answer your question yes Barb and Tony are on this sailing but we haven't seen them.

I'm at one of my favorite spots at the internet cafe - the one large desk by itself where you can type and still look out the window. :) Mark is still asleep but I'm a morning person so thought I would come down here and catch up.

The 3pm DIS meet was a huge success. Usually when we go up about 2:50 or so we're the only ones there for while. When we got there yesterday there were already a number of DISers and then they just kept coming! They now have the DJ (I'm thinking it is the DJ - his name is Hollywood) and the band start up even earlier than the sailaway party so we had some music as part of the meet and he even gave a shout out to the Double Scoop Troup as he called us up on deck 10! Turns out some of our members (Kikipug and Coach Pug) were with their kids at the goofy pool waiting for the meet to start and he asked about the shirts. So a really neat surprise. Our other great surprise was a visit to the DIS meet by Don "Ducky" Williams. One of the DISers is good friends with Ducky and he was the first to say he'd be on this cruise. So I had pm'd him and ask if Ducky would like one of our buttons as well and to invite him to the DIS meet. I was so thrilled when he came and I got a chance to tell him how much we enjoyed his presentations on both the 10 day and DVC Member cruise. He is doing two presentations on this cruise but no special litho for the sailing. A few nice exchanges as well. Virgil gave out gold PDFG pins (see below) and Karen & Mike passed out lime green pens with the cruise date and name on them (Amy wonder where they got that idea). :)

After the DIS meet we went back to the cabin to find all our bags had been delivered. I was able to get the garment bag unpacked before we headed out to the safety drill. Speaking of the safety drill I really like the new lifevests. Much easier to use than the old and you don't feel like a walking brick. You can actually look down to go down stairs. Nice!

After the drill we finished unpacking, got cleaned up and dressed for dinner. We didn't go to the sailaway on decks 9 & 10 because we had a special party down on deck 4. A good friend of ours from the 10 day GaRry aka wdwgoose was supposed to be sailing with us but couldn't due to some health problems. GaRry is the G in the PDFG in our signatures and on the pins. It stands for Pixie Dust For GaRry. While GaRry couldn't sail with us he did come down to Florida to meet with some of us and see us off. Stacey had a large banner made that we love you Garry. We all met down on deck 4 and they tied the banner over the rail. Thanks for the great shot 2angels. GaRry was down on the rocks at Jetty Park. As we sailed past we all yelled out "We Love You GaRry" and we truly do. What a special gentlemen.

By this time it was 5:30 and since we have early dining on the APL rotation that means it was time for dinner. Our tablemates for this cruise are Karen, Mike, KT and Nick from Ohio. We have sailed with them twice before and consider them good friends. We had other tables of DISers near by and it was a wonderful meal. After dinner it was back to the cabin quickly and then off to the variety show. Very cute.

After that it was time for a stroll around deck 9 - wanted to see the Dumbotron in action at night - and then off to bed. What a wonderful first day!

Today is our first stop at Castaway Cay! We are doing the stingrays at 10 am and then the jet skis at 1 pm.

Our character breakfast is Thursday at 8:15. Not sure when the others our. Normally with our rotation it would have been today but with CC we would have missed it.

Also the DVC Member meet is today at 4pm - after a day on the island. We had stopped by to ask at the DVC desk when it was since we weren't booked on points and were assured they knew we were members and would be invited but it was at 4pm. Sure enough when we got back to the room after the show there was a call waiting for us. This morning on our door was a Welcome Home Magnet (you Member Cruisers will remember those - we all had them on our doors) and an invitation in our message fish.

Well I'm off to read the boards a bit more and then go see if Mark got up.

How cool that Ducky Williams came to your meet! What a nice memory for you all!

I'm like you, too, I LOVE getting up early while cruising. THere's just something about the quietness that is so tranquil. I like to be one of the first in the Rainforest Room that early in the morning.

Perfect ways to begin the day! Enjoy your cruise and I look forward to your updates!

Just one miscellaneous question maybe you could find the answer for.....we are really wanting PLA rotation like last time (for our DD in Nov)....main reason? So our CB would be Thursday AM like usual. If yours is Thurs, then when do PLA's go? Thanks for any info. :goodvibes

Second...(please forgive my ignorance) Who is Ducky Williams? :confused3 :confused3

This DIS group is famous! Hope you have a great time!

If you find out, could you let us know if they are doing something special with the teens in place of the Teen Fury Catamaran Cruise that was supposed to happen the Cozumel evening? They canceled it because of the earlier departure time.

Hi all! Just checking in before heading to the DVC meeting!

First to answer some questions. Formal night is Monday, Semi-Formal night is Thursday. Pirate night is Wednesday the same night we are in Cozumel.

Grills is a resturant right on the channel that the Magic and Wonder leave out of. Great food and a great place to watch the ships from. We ate breakfast there with some fellow DISers on Saturday morning.

Ducky is one of Disney's best loved artists. If you have entered the main gate at WDW that is Ducky's work. If you've eaten at Tony's the art on the walls is his. If you have any artwork from WDW (pamphlets etc.) chances are he did it. Plus he's a great story teller! Can't wait for his performance.

The best thing about a double scoop cruise is that you can do so much and know you are coming back for more. We did the stingrays this morning - awesome! Then lunch at cookies, then did the jet ski eco tour. Fantastic! Only downside is the post office was locked up. Hoping it is open on Friday as I have some postcards to mail. Now Friday when we come back will be all about relaxing. Looking forward to it.

We made DJ Hollywood an official Double Scooper with his own button today. He was dedicating songs to the group on CC.

I also hear one of our own did quite well at Match your Mate last night.

Well I have to go - see you all later. I'll try and get answers to you CB questions!

I didn't realize it was a double dip - hope you all have a great time! :thumbsup2

It was awesome yesterday at the DISmeet and at the sailaway. Mark and Mary did their usual wonderful job - and we all had a blast. It was great putting faces to all of the 45,000 plus posts.

For those of us that know and love gaRry - it was bittersweet having him on shore waving farewell to us as he was supposed to be joining us. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Stacey and I did have some pins made with PDFG as Mary said - unfortunately the plan was to get him some pins too, but my flight delay interrupted that plan - he'll get his pins later.

Stacey and Jay had a great time on Match Your Mate - videos will be available.... :rotfl:

It was great having my daughter Kristin with us - now that she is 21 she could legally drink the wine with me..... It's hilarious - everybody keeps asking her how she likes The Stack.....

What an awesome day it was today at CC. We did the noon eco tour and had an absolute blast. Wonderful weather (5th cruise 2nd time with what I would call perfect weather at CC).

The ocean is as calm as I have ever seen it. Lauren (DD11) asked why it looked "funny" - told her it was because it was so calm.....

Tonight we have dinner in Parrot Cay. A 10 Day Holiday Cruise alumni brunch is scheduled in the morning.

Be back later!

Virgil

Hi everyone! Checking in after dinner and the end of a wonderful day.

First the disappointing news for you pin collectors. No special Double Dip pins. Some nice artist choice pins but that is it for the limited editions.

Buddy Bear - I just saw Stacey who had your envelope for Gloria so it is being delivered as we speak.

Also DJ Hollywood is now an official member of the Double Scoop Group. We gave him his own button today (we always bring a few blanks). The shout outs were continuing on CC - it was such fun to hear.

The weather was perfect as Virgil said and the sea is as smooth as glass. We're taking it easy tonight and looking forward to our first sea day and the 10 day reunion brunch.

I was disappointed as well. Same thing happened on the 10 day. We were the first Disney cruise to St. Lucia and the first planned 10 day and they didn't have anything special. Oh well...knowing we'll be back at CC this week is special enough. Even more special is cruising with a great group of DISers!

We are having a blast. So much so, that this is the first chance I've had to get down here and log in.

What can I say? Clear skies, smooth seas (although I really WANT to be rocked to sleep), good food, EXCELLENT company......Wow.

It's true, DJ Hollywood LOVES this group. Any time he's got a microphone in his hand, the "Double Scoop Group" (or TROUPE as he calls us) gets a shout out. We could hear it all over Castaway Cay today.

We went to 60's night tonight....too much fun. Hollywood just had to double check and make sure his DIS fan base was there....oh yeah!

Sea day....brunch....spa.....looking forward to a marvelous day tomorrow!

Stacey is going to have to be the late night reporter as I haven't made one of the late night events yet. :) I am a morning person however and love this time of day.

One thing I forgot to mention is that we picked up our embarkation photo last night. When it was taken we were against a screen that looked like an old fashioned treasure map. When we picked it up it was now an 8x10 and had a large blue border abound it that says 2 x the Magic and listed the ports and the date. It will make a great addition to our scrapbook of the cruise.

Hey Mary! Who was your server at Palo?
Tell us about some goodies you enjoyed!!!

Mel we had Anne Marie and she was WONDERFUL! Of course it started out champagne and they had two to choose from. A regular one and a Kir (sp?) which was pink in color. You will have to forgive me on this as we don't drink. Just grabbed what everyone else did so someone could have 2.

Then a tour of the buffet area which is enough to put on 10 lbs. :lmao: We started loading our plates. The sticky buns are now served warm and they are to die for! Of course I also had to have some stollen bread - heaven. Mark loaded up on the seafood - he loves the shrimp they serve here.

She then brought in a couple of each of the savory pizzas. The had cheese and tomato, pepperoni, and spicy Italian sausage.

Next was the hot entree. I went the breakfast route and had an omlet while Mark went more to the lunch side and did chicken parmigean.

Then of course came dessert! If you love choclate this is the place. I had a chocolate pot which really creamy. I heard rave reviews for all the other desserts as well.

Towards the end one of the husbands left right as one of the other guys started taking group shots so poor Stacey was left without a DH. Anne Marie to the rescue - she brought in Marco to pose with her. Then she brought in Tony to pose with her. Then she brought in one of the chefs Aldo to pose with her. It was all in good fun!

We even had a photographer come up and take a group shot. A nice momento of the day.

Very important - we started out brunch with the news that GaRry's insurance came through so we were all VERY VERY HAPPY about that!

The rest of the day was kind of lazy. I'm not one for laying by the pool. Mark did a lot of reading and napping. I went to part of the art auction, then the cake decorating. Also did a little shopping. I heard there was also a scrapbook class but I didn't go to that.

For those of you who have teens and tweens that like High School Musical they showed it on the Dumbotron yesterday afternoon. They got quite a crowd in and around the pool watching it.

Then it was time to get ready for formal night. Had our picture taken with Captain Tom in the atrium and had a beautiful table right next to the windows so we could watch the sea go by. Didn't keep the curtains open too long as the sun was coming in and blinding others. This DIS group cleans up nice! There were some very elegant ladies and some dashing gentlemen. The PDFG pin seemed to be the tie tac of choice last night.

After dinner we went and saw the Golden Mickeys - we had only seen it once before. Very fun. Then I'm afraid we hit the sack. We left the after party for those nighttime DISers. :)

This morning I got up early to walk my mile and now the sun is starting to come up. Looks like another beautiful day ahead of us in Costa Maya.

Thanks for the update, Mary. Sounds like a perfect day at sea!

How does one arrange for the 'group' room at Palo? Does someone in the group need to be staying concierge? I also remember reading trip reports that say it gets pretty 'toasty' in there during the day...did you experience that?

I'm anxious to hear from anyone who does the David & Ivan, Native Choice, ruins tour today. I'm so looking forward to that excursion! ::yes::
Edited to add: We also want to know about the 'tourist transportation' that takes you into Mahahual for $3 per person....is it car/taxi, trolly, bus...what kind of vehicle (some of our families are large groups and they're wondering if they have to split up for the ride to the village).

Thanks for keeping us future double-dippers 'in the loop' (especially the obsessive planners)!

Good morning everyone! Checking in from at sea as we are getting ready to dock in Cozumel. I've got my laundry running so thought I would scoot down here for a few minutes. :)

Yesterday was a beautiful day! Docked in Costa Maya under clear skies and sunshine. We didn't have anything planned as this cruise is all about relaxation for us but I know one large group of DISers was doing a Scuba/Snorkel/Beach Party. Haven't seen them for details on how it went.

Sandi & Larry did the tour with David & Ian and loved it! Larry says he highly recommends it. I'm going to try and get Sandi to log in and give her impressions but if we don't hook up I'm sure she'll post them when she gets home.

The port area of Costa Maya is really cute with the swimming pool and all the little shops. Unfortunately we aren't big fans of fancy jewelry or native crafts so after walking around we just headed back to the ship. Did some swimming, read some of my book, took in the American Buffet at Topsiders and took a nap. :) We went to the afternoon showing of Twice Charmed. This was the first time I've seen it and liked it a lot. To me it is better than the Golden Mickeys but still not as good as Disney Dreams.

Dinner last night was the Master Chef's dinner. We had one less at our table as KT (one of our Tweens) was doing dinner in the suites with some of the other girls (they did this on the 10 day as well). After dinner we chilled until about 9:30 then headed down to listen to the Beach Bugs and catch Rich Pupura's adult show. Both were very good.

Today is Cozumel and in keeping with our relaxation theme we aren't even getting off the ship. We are tendering in Cozumel and got a detailed sheet in our stateroom last night. Pretty much the same as in Grand Cayman. If you are on a tour that gets you on the tender. If you are on your own show up with your complete party at the Buena Vista Theatre and pick up a tender number.

I believe all aboard tonight is 6 pm.

Tonight is also pirate night and the deck party.

Well that's all for now - I'll check in later. Have a great day everyone!

Monday, Formal Night, is still a restaurant specific menu (your first three days are menues specific to your location). Thursday, Semi-Formal Night, is Lobster night!!! Oh sorry, sidetracked by lobster. Anyway, after the first three nights, the menu is the same in every restaurant...Master Chef, Pirate menu, Seafood and I forget what they call the last one. If I had my PassPorter I could give you an example of the menues, but, alas, my sister has it.

So if Formal Night is restaurant specific does that mean if you are in AP on Formal Night that is the only night they run the "show"? I had really hoped to be in Palo for formal night and let the kids eat before hand at the buffet but I would not want them to miss AP. DS still talks about the restaurants where all the pictures light up. He would be really disappointed.

Hi everyone! Checking in between dinner and the deck party!

Jackie - sorry I never answered your question about Palo. For our cruise the person who did book it was concierge. Don't know if you have to have someone in the party be concierge but it sure didn't hurt. :) Terry for the photo what the clerk at Shutters told us to do was have the Palo Manager (PJ) call the photo manager about sending someone up. They were busy with the character breakfast that morning but PJ came back and said someone would be there by 12 (our brunch started at 10:30) and they came about 11:30.

So on to today. It looks like they are making great progress with the docks and I wouldn't be surprised to see them starting to be able to dock soon. Of course I'm just going by what I saw from the ship so they might not be as far along as they look. One large Carnival ship was docked so I know they have one open (I'm thinking the Carnival ship is a weekly visitor so they get priority).

Started the day doing laundry. I find early morning is the best time to get it done and not have to wait for a washer or dryer. Gives me a chance to DIS and do some walking as well. While the stuff was in the dryer I went up to deck 9 and made some tea and since Topsiders wasn't open yet went over to the Goofy Gallery which is new since we last sailed the Magic in December of 2004. They had a number of pastries and they had Stollen bread - just like in Palo. No whipped cream, jam or berries to go with it but it was still delicious.

After putting away the laundry Mark and I went up to breakfast and watched as we pulled into the port area and saw all the tender ships lining up. After breakfast we headed down to deck 4 to grab some comfy deck chairs and read for a while. Mark also saw that they were loading the boat that heads over to the mainland for the Tulum tour and since our tablemates the Ohio mouse family were on that he waited to see them board and grab a photo for them. Oh those deck 4 chairs are comfy!

After that we went back to the room for a while and chilled while watching a movie, then lunch, then a much needed nap to prepare for tonight (I'm so not a late night person without a nap). :)

Dinner had us in Parrot Cay which I really enjoy on Pirate night. Just kind of adds to the theme. Also we think that the Pirate night menu is one of the best they have. After dinner we went to the lobby to have our lifestyle portraits done. Hope they come out nice. I've seen so many great ones we just had to try it.

Then back to our room and a Magical Moment. Waiting on our message fish was an invitation to join the Captain on the bridge Friday afternoon as we leave Castaway Cay. Andy your luck must be rubbing off on us! We are very excited! I know one other DIS family that also got an invitation.

So now we are changed into t-shirts (from our pirate excursion in St. Lucia) and shorts and just chilling until it is time for the deck party. We hope to be able to stay awake for the showing of Pirates on the Dumbotron at 11 pm.

Oh another note for those of you with little ones - I saw they were playing Playhouse Disney on the Dumbotron this morning. :)

We went to the afternoon showing of Twice Charmed. This was the first time I've seen it and liked it a lot. To me it is better than the Golden Mickeys but still not as good as Disney Dreams.

Hi Mary,

Glad to hear you and Mark are having a relaxing cruise. Seems the weather is cooperating also. We saw Twice Charmed when we were on the Panama Cruise. I, too, liked it better than the Golden Mickeys, but my favorite is still Disney Dreams. Hopefully we will be able to take the grandkids on a Disney cruise next year and they can see the shows. I know they will love them.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Is the invitation to the bridge a purely magic happening, or does one put in a note with guest services to show interest?

Good morning everyone! Thanks for the congrats. As Andy stated it is just pure Disney magic - not something you ask for. In fact I think if people did start asking for it they would take it away. I also believe from Andy's report that it is a bridge visit for a larger group rather than one or two selected to blow the horn which again is fine by me. Andy was blessed enough to do the horn a couple of years ago but I think they have now opted for this.

Getting a late start this morning because we had a very long but fun evening. After dinner and changing clothes I headed up to deck 9 to see if I could snag some chairs for the deck party. They were all gone already (this was before 9 pm) so I opted to sit on deck 10 directly across from the Dumbotron on this little riser. A gentleman came up and asked if I was a poster from the DIS. Seems he's been reading and recognized my picture. So we talked for a little bit and then another couple came up with two chairs from downstairs. We hadn't thought of that. The gentleman I was talking to went and got two for his family and then asked if I had anyone to get some for me. Mark was still back in the room so I said no and he went and got two for me. We ended up with great seats this way! The Dumbotron is really nice at times like this as it was playing a screen saver of underwater life. Really nice and helped pass the time. It was also put to good use during the party itself with screen shots and close-ups of the characters.

After the party they showed a preview of Pirates of the Caribbean II and then a screening of the first Pirates movie. What a cool experience to be sitting out in the Caribbean and watching Pirates on the big screen. Many pulled lounge chairs onto the dance floor below and from above it looked like a modern version of a drive in movie. We stayed in our chairs on deck 10 and just moved them back a bit so we could see the whole screen. The version they showed was a slightly longer one with extra scenes. Very nice. It was 1 am before we got to the room and with the time change that meant 2 am! Needless to say we slept in and are missing our character breakfast this morning, but we told our servers not to expect us.

Looking forward to another fun day at sea and a chance to see Ducky at 11 am. We are also doing High Tea this afternoon which is something we love.

Have a great day all!

Hi everyone! Checking in after another great day and before heading to the dessert buffet.

First a piece of news for those of you doing a double scoop cruise. They are having special t-shirts and tote bags. Saw a sign up at Mickey's Mates. They will only be available tomorrow on Castaway Cay. Can't remember the prices but they are the same design as on the embarkation photo saying Twice The Magic. Yeah!

Did breakfast up at Topsiders then made myself some hot tea and headed off to Cove Cafe to sit in one of those big wicker chairs and read my book. Cove Cafe now has self-serve pastries throught the day so I also picked up a piece of Stollen bread as well. Was joined by Karen (ohiominnie) for a while and had a few other DISers stop by as well. I love traveling with friends!

Went to the Ducky presentation at 11 am and we had a DIS section. Great presentation as always and one of our group (Patty) did win a sketch.

Next it was lunch and then some walking around the ship. Met up with Karen who said she and Mike were starting up a game of Left, Right, Center at the Mickey pool so I headed over there. We were joined by Sandi, Maria and Amanda and had a number of great games. Lots of laughs. Partway through Mark joined us and Mike left for a while. We left at 2:30 to go get ready for Palo High Tea.

We love High Tea and were not disappointed at all. We had a lovely table by the window and again had Anne Marie as our server.

After tea I spent some time reading on the verandah. I could hear the soundtrack from Nemo which was playing up on the Dumbotron.

Then it was off to dinner. Hard to believe we only have one more dinner left after tonight.

We went to the family cabaret which was fun and then to Disney Dreams. Now as I said it is close to 11 pm so I'm heading to the dessert buffet and meeting up with my fellow blabbermouths. :cheer2:

Good morning everyone! Coming to you live as we are heading to Castaway Cay. Looks like it is going to be another wonderful day!

The dessert buffet last night was wonderful! It is smaller than ones I've seen onboard in the past but still great. They have a chocolate fountain at the end and marshmellows and fresh fruit to be dipped in it (the server does the dipping). For me the buffet wasn't about the desserts it was about friends. One of our group introduced others to Banfi on the 10 day at the dessert buffet and that has kind of become the unofficial drink of the double scoop group. So last night was about getting together with others and trying some (I'm not a drinker but wanted to at least try). We ended up with 4 tables. Two for the adults, one for the teens and one for the tweens. I admit the Banfi tasted good but I'm not wine expert so only had a little. We had 3 bottles (none of them full when we started) of Banfi for the two adult tables, one bottle of homemade Rasberry Ice Wine and one bottle of a New Mexico white wine. So we had a great time with friends sharing stories of the trip, some wine and some great desserts. It was especially nice to get together with some we don't see often because they are on another seating from us. Needless to say the blabbermouths closed the place - as we were walking out they were taking down the buffet. :)

Buddy - High Tea is very nice. Your only decision is which tea to drink. I think they have about 10-12 to choose from. A number of green teas, some black teas, and some herbal teas. Each person gets their own pot and strainer (this is true loose tea in the pot). Your server will then bring over a tray of finger sandwhiches (cucumber, salmon, etc.). That is followed by warm scones with a plate of spreads (apricot, rasberry, and devonshire cream). Next comes a tray of desserts (small tarts, chocolate eclairs). Last by not least is an English Trifle. You will also have a server come around and ask if you would like more anything like the scones. Our whole experience took about 1/2 hour but it could have lasted longer. There was a gentleman playing piano the whole time. All in all a very nice and quiet getaway on a sea day.

Lisa - I have not seen smoking inside Cove Cafe. One thing I did notice was that each table outside did not have an ash tray. You now have to go inside and ask for one for those tables. I haven't noticed the smoking on this cruise to be half as bad as others I've been on. I do know that Cove Cafe hosts a cigar/conac receiption some nights but haven't been up there during that to know if it is held inside or out or how smokey it is.

Last fall it was held outside and for a non-smoker like me I did not consider it bad at all. We were still out enjoying the pool. I do not recall ever seeing smoking inside at the Cafe.

Well guys this wonderful cruise is coming to an end and this will be the last live report from the ship from me for this trip. :(

The weather for our second CC day was fantastic! Woke up to some showers but they were soon replaced with not only sunshine but rainbows! We had breakfast at Topsiders while watching a beautiful rainbow and a second one forming.

When the ship got cleared Mark headed over to the adult beach to get a great spot and I stopped for our t-shirts (plenty left for all you future Double Dip. The water was crystal clear and we headed in quickly. Ducky was there as well and pointed out a great spot to see fish. We saw tons of them. Then I saw the barracuda :scared1: . So I headed back to shore! Went for a ride in our tubes and then said goodbye to serenity bay and over to Cookies. Met up with some fellow DISers for lunch. Tried to stop by the post office but it was closed for a Bahamian holiday - so why weren't they open on Sunday. :confused3 Anyway guest services took the cards and some money and left them with someone on the island to mail tomorrow then the Wonder docks.

At 4:30 we headed up to the bridge where we were with 3 other families and introduced to both Captain Tom and Captain Mickey! Got to spend about 15 minutes there and since one of the other families was a DIS family and staying in the Roy Suite we got a tour of that as well. Very nice! Thanks Debb!

The ship was a bit late in leaving due to having to evacuate a passenger via helicopter.

Soon we were on our way back to Port Canaveral. Dinner was great as usual and we passed out all our tips. Then to the farewell variety show and now here. Our bags are packed - just need to do a final check and put them in the hall.

I'm sitting in my favorite terminal down on 3 and looking out the window at a Carnival ship all lit up and running parallel to us.

Thanks to the Captain and crew of the Disney Magic for a fantastic week. Thanks also to all the wonderful DISers from the Blabbermouth thread who have become such great friends over the last 16 months. Hope you have enjoyed reading our live reports. Look for a trip report (either here or another thread) with pictures from Mark sometime next week.

We're off to 2 days at WDW and then home!

Hi all, again, sorry for being negligent in posting - but just really couldn't find the time - and didn't want to check on work.

Anyways.....
.
The first day at sea was great - it was so much fun having Palo Brunch with the great group of friends from the 10 day Christmas Cruise. Pictures to follow. DW and I did the couples choice in the Spa Villa. We both had the hot stone massage. It was really enjoyable. The Villas are nice - and the hot tub on the deck was really fun.

Costa Maya was great - we did a beach day with some of friends - and snorkeled and such. It was really nice. Costa Maya has a nice feel to it - not too developed yet - in coming years I'm sure that the development will take over.

Cozumel - well never say Cozumel - got on a ferry directly from the Magic and went to Playa de Carmen for our trip to Tulum. I really enjoyed the trip and the tour - can't say the same for DW. DD (11) went swimming on the beach and had a blast. DD(21) tolerated the trip. We then boarded the bus back to Playa de Carmen. We got to shop for about 45 minutes before we boarded the ferry to go straight back to the Magic.

Sea Day - Went to the Ducky Willliams presentation - lounged around - went to see The Wild. Nice film - too much like Madagascar - glad Disney bought Pixar.

CC - what can I say - it was a great day. Spent the morning at Serenity Bay - believe it or not it was our first time there. What a great place. We then went Parasailing at 130 - well it was supposed to be 130 - we actually left at 215 - and didn't get back until almost 4pm - our boat almost made it to Abaco island because of the wind. We rode with Stacey and her family - (and yes - more pictures to follow). Sorry to the DISers who had their excursion cancelled because of our delay - but we did get started 45 minutes late.

and here I am typing in the airport on my daughter's laptop - she's staring at me wanting it back.....

It was a great time - with great friends - both new and old....

As I toasted at dinner last night.... Here's to friend and to memories - both past, present and future....

Any questions I'd be glad to answer for you.

Hope that you enjoyed how quick the boards were while we were gone - because the Blabbermouths are back on land... and soon to be back on the boards.

You Double Dippers are some of the most watched bunch around! I have been waiting and waiting for you guys! Say hi to Chip&Dale&Fun for us! We sailed with them last November. :cool1:

Just one miscellaneous question maybe you could find the answer for.....we are really wanting PLA rotation like last time (for our DD in Nov)....main reason? So our CB would be Thursday AM like usual. If yours is Thurs, then when do PLA's go? Thanks for any info. :goodvibes

HAVE A MAGICAL SAILING! :cheer2:
DIS NURSE :sunny:

Gosh DisNurse, I hope someone answered your question. We had APL rotation and our character breakfast was 9:45 on the second sea day Thursday....maybe by process of elimination you can get an answer????

It was a wonderful cruise with beautiful weather!!!

I wanted to answer about the Character Breakfast for our rotation ...
We had PLA early seating. Our CB was Friday morning (CC day) at 8am. At first I was disappointed but it really worked out fine. We saw everyone and were done and on the beach by 9:30. According to our servers, the late seating for that rotation was at 9:45 (I think? maybe it was 9:30?) so I don't know how that worked out...

Well, was that fun, or what??

We just hit the house...about 8:30 our time, 11:30 Florida time. What a long day. Had a day room at the Hyatt and we all slept all afternoon.

I love being on the ship, but after a long day of travel, it's sure nice to be home. :dogdance: And our furry friend was really happy to see us!

Didn't get a chance to post during the trip, barely got a chance to check my work email.

Not going to do a full trip report but a couple comments.

Everything far exceeded our expectations and what we remembered from our first cruise.

I know someone asked about the "Cozumel" (it was not in Cozumel) Dolphin excursion. We did this and it was great. The ride there was long but comfortable. You stood on a platform and had a lot of interaction with the dolphins. The food was great, as was the beach but you only got about an hour at the beach before the bus left. It was in the middle of this exclusive private complex with nice shops, a small zoo and a private beach. In comparison the Costa Maya dolphin excursion you actually were swimming in the water, some people might prefer this but it would not have worked for my kids (DS4, DDs7&8). Also that excursion did not include lunch. Only other issue with "Cozumel" was that you were there all day, no option to leave early.

Double Dip was great, fantastic weather, got some nice shots of the rainbow!!!

Was lucky enough for my kids to get picked to go on stage in the Golden Mickeys (the 1st 3 dwarves at the 8:30 show) as well as DS4 getting called for "Who...Mouseketeer" (Jimmie on Thursday night) and DD7 and DW for "How well do you know your family?"

I will probably post some photos at some point.

I heard that someone was airlifted out from Costa Maya. Anyone else hear of this?

Hope everyone had as great a time as we did.

I'll post about the trip, too...but need to catch my breath and some "zzz's" first. Will answer a couple of questions.

Cozumel....they've come a long way since we were there in December. Trees planted, lots more plants and flowers, more shops and restaurants are open now. Still not much sand for beaches. Chankanaab is still hauling in sand to make their beach. No dolphins at Chankanaab...there won't be for quite I while yet, we were told.
From Mary's angle on the ship, it DID look like the Carnival ship was docked, but it wasn't. They were anchored at the tip of the third pier (furthest south) and had to tender in also.
We tendered into the International pier. It is being worked on, but the completion date is still set for December. They are coming along well with rebuilding the shopping area at the International pier.

Someone asked about transportation in Costa Maya.....they have nice, shiny new yellow taxi's.

The special Two Times the Magic t-shirts and bags are great. Word of warning: The size Adult XL sold out quickly, so if you need an XL, buy it early.
I asked several different CM's in Treasure Ketch why they hadn't made any special merchandise for these cruises, with the Costa Maya port listed...particularly on the white and yellow gold "Disney Cruise Line" charms that they have, and I was told by everyone I asked "Costa Maya is just a temporary port, a replacement because of the hurricane". I pointed out to a few of them that starting with our cruise, Costa Maya was no longer a "replacement"...but didn't say anything after that because the CM's aren't the ones who design the merchandise. Once again, Disney is losing an opportunity to make money. Oh well.

Will add details later.

Oh so this is where everyone was and I am just now realizing it now that I'm back? LOL

I'm LMAO about the sleeping all day at the Hyatt, Stacey! Seems like a lot of people were there but were sleeping! When we left that evening we saw a lot of DIS'ers/doublescoop group but hadn't seen them all day any of the time we spent at the pool and now I know we were there- just mostly everyone was sleeping. I got in about 1.5hrs sleep during a time DH took the kids swimming without me. Soon as they came back they were too loud and woke me up. Brats.
LOL

(I only slept 3hrs the night before- I couldn't go to sleep knowing we were leaving in the morning, plus I'm a nightowl anyway... it was just worse that night)

About the airlifting- I don't know about costa maya but I was standing out on deck 4 facing the gangway area when a helicopter came down in Castaway cay on Friday-- and I yelled down at one of the cast members there (in white uniform) if someone was leaving- and he said yes. I said are they said? He said "they are". Later today when leaving the hyatt- our bellhop helping us with the luggage to check them mentioned he heard someone died of a heart attack on Friday on the Disney cruise. (where's the crying emoticon?) So maybe that's what you are referring to? It appears unless rumor changed things that apparently someone died of a heart attack the day of CC on Friday.. but if that is not the case- at the very least someone was taken off by helicopter. I didn't stay on deck long enough to see whoever was taken or what condition they were in because I had to shower and get ready for the show and dinner- but someone was obviously being taken off. The helicopter set down about 4:40pm and was there a few minutes until I went to my stateroom- all I saw was someone "official" looking put up his hand with fingers splayed like wait 5 minutes (to the helicopter pilot) and then went inside then I yelled down asking what I already mentioned above- then I went inside.

Ps. our flight was a little delayed and by the time we got to DFW, got our vehicle and drove home- it was after midnight. Going off the ship was WAY faster and smoother than I thought it would be. Do you know they didn't even ask for our IDs or birth certificates? The guy just asked for our customs form and put it down and waved us thru. By the time I handed that to him- the porter with our luggage was stopped by a lady who just asked me what was in the soft sided cooler- I told her it was can beers and plastic bottle wine coolers we'd brought with us and didn't consume (told ya we're not big drinkers LOL) and she just waved us on thru without looking also. That was it! Our limo was waiting outside and we were at the Hyatt by 9:30. And we had late breakfast at 7:45am and didn't leave there until 8:30am. ONE HOUR from sitting at breakfast until walking into our room at the Hyatt. We so could have taken the 10:30am or 11:30am -ish flights to DFW... but ohwell. We stayed at the Hyatt all day and our 6:32pm flight was a bit delayed and left at 7:15pm. Even with the time change (going back an hour for CST) we still didn't get home until after midnight though (we have an hour or so drive home from airport though).
I'm just now finding this thread so now I need to read it all. LOL

Mary helped me out....We are DVC members and did NOT get door magnets...We were disappointed as they were cute....So Mary and I stopped by the DVC desk....apparently they do miss you - we aalso did not get an invite to the DVC meet....

So here is a hint to others - See if you can review your portfolio - not sure if there is an entry on the Castaway Club meet - but if you book trhough a travel agent that does not know Disney, it might be worth a call to Disney before you board to make sure you are listed as DVC.

Thanks to Mary, I did get my door magnet....

I didn't ask Hollywood how long he'd be onboard, but I did talk to Pike (aka DJ Pike) and he said that his job for our cruise was to assist Don "Ducky" Williams. So I don't know for sure if that meant that Pike would be back as DJ after our cruise. Will have to wait for reports from future cruisers.

I can say that Hollywood did a great job. He's got TONS of energy!

Your welcome Mary. It was great to finally meet everyone. What a great bunch you all are. :thumbsup2

We saw a child taken off the ship in an ambulance in Costa Maya (it was parked directly under our stateroom)... they loaded all his luggage, including his stuffed Stitch, into the ambulance, put his family inside, and drove off...

We also saw the helicopter land at CC... also directly outside our porthole... it wasn't a medical helicopter- just a regular 4-passenger... so whoever left in it must have been able to sit upright... the two guys who got out were talking to a crew member and pointing at the large coral 'rocks'... looked more like construction contractors if you ask me... both were smoking and chatting.. definitely not in a big hurry to get anyone anywhere...

Re: the passenger leaving via helicopter from CC...

There was a gentleman having issues with his appendix at CC. The copter came in around 4pm (we saw it from our veranda). We saw the man and a couple of people with him board with the pilot of the copter about 15 minutes before we left the dock. At the time he was leaving we didn't think much because he was waving from his wheelchair. I heard what was wrong later in the evening from another cast member.

What I had heard was that a child almost drowned at the pool in Costa Maya and was airlifted out. So this must be the same story.

On our previous cruise (3 years ago) someone was airlifted out of CC by the US Coast Guard.

I figured the the regular helipcopter at CC was just someone surveying for future development.

Yeah, that's why I hollered down to ask if someone was leaving/if someone was sick because the 2 guys that got out- well they were dressed like they were going on a cruise or something. You know- docker type shorts, polo shirts and just standing around. The crewmember for DCL just put his hand up to like say give him 5 minutes when they landed- they sat there for a few minutes then got out and walked around... and like I said were dressed like they were going on a cruise or just normal- no uniforms and such. It definitely didn't look like there was room in there for someone to lay down or anything.
But I did ask if someone was leaving and the guy in white said yes- then I asked if someone was sick- and he said "they are" and then walked inside on the gangway. So I guess it was the appendix- and the rumor just swelled to heartattack by the time we got to the hyatt the next day. You know how rumors go!

Posting on the Native Choice Tour - It was GREAT! We took a taxi downtown. You walk through the port and end up where there are very orgaized rentals. It is $3.00 per person in large vans. They take you to the start of town and we were met by one of the guides as we were the first group. However, it is right by Cats Meow so you cannot miss it. You will need to wait for all the touring parties that time slot to arrive, so you might as well relax for about 15 minues in the shade. Here are a few pre-tour HINTS.

You will be walking through trails - in the summer and by the time you arrive, the rainy season will have started, so I suggest tennis shoes and socks and loose clothing. Comng from swampy south Florida, we always wear long sleeves and slacks....AND HATS.....that might be hard to convince teenagers to do, but it is a HINT for comfort. We had no trouble with bugs or leaves or sand....

You are then taken via small van which seats about 9-10 about 45-60 minutes to the ruins. Carolina was our guide in the van and very informative. She explained the Mayon life style, home construction, history of the port, the villages along the way etc......

Then a ruin looms before you - WOW. You are dropped off at the visitors Center. Be warned.....all the cruise buses arrive about the same time and there is a long, long line for ladies restrooms....which are quite clean. Some small shops and souveniers are available. Native Choice was very well stocked with bottled water and juice for the kids, all sealed, all quite safe.

We waited, in the shade.....remember you are on Mexican time, so relax....and finally it was time for us to leave. Ivan was our guide and he was excellent. He provided a commentary on the excavations and explained everything that you would see.....I will not spoil the surpise with an explaination here, unless requested.

You do a bit of walking, but it is slow paced, with stops for pictures and exploring. I did not feel rushed at all.....

We went on to the lunch with the Mayon Family - again, I will recommend this heartily......Additional discussions along the way were provided, water etc and the van was air-conditioned. Lunch was not as expected, and again, will not post the details yet.

Take some small bills as the guide may offer home-made articles the family is selling. It is a nice way of providing a "tip" without seeming insulting.

The van dropped us off at the port, saving another cab-fare and also time....We were able to walk around the shops at the port and have a local brew before it was all-aboard time.

Any questions??? Will be glad to provide more details.

We were dropped off at the port.

We saw the passenger leave - he or she was in a wheel chair and was able to board the copter under his own power. There was a medic (or someone in green scrubs who boarded as well.)......I agree with Karen, there was no "hurry" - there was lots of time between the landing and the take-off.....

We spent Friday afternoon on the beach at Serenity Bay. A CM was walking around with megaphone, trying to find the "Lopez family". She said they needed to go back to the ship. She didn't find them, but that might have been related to the guy that left in the helicopter?

I think I have read the thread but not sure I read if anyone posted the specifics of tendering. Much was made about this before we cruised so here goes....

Think of it like taking the ferry from parking to the Kingdom. It is that easy. The tender boat is very large. We had very flat seas so there were no waves or rolling action. On our return tender, the pilot boat came up to the ship so they had to stop until the waives subsided, but really a "walk in the park"...this from one who gets seasick very easy.

If you have a Disney booked excursion, the tender process will be where you assemble for the excursion. For others, we met in the BV Theatre. We were there at 8:00 and did need to wait for quite a time. Be prepared to be patient. Cozumel is still recovering and they need happy tourists, so your excursions, if they are like ours, will adjust.....they will just wait for you.

You are assigned a tender based on the time you arrive. Towels are not provided so the staff makes announcements for one family member to go to deck 9 to get same....plenty of time for this.....

My "take" is that the Mexican security does not want tourists at the port except in daylight hours for safety and that the tenders do not wish to run at night....No clue if this is the reason, but the time frame on shore is cut short....be prepared for that.

If you look at the docks and buildings, you can see the total devestation a Cat 5. huricane can do when it sits off shore for 3 days. Many of these people were totally without work for over 42 days, some are still homeless....

The pier was cut through and does not exist. That is a pier, a concrete and metal structuree....imagine the homes.....

But recovery is happening. We were not able to stop at the shops or local watering holes due to the time crunch, so I will have to let others post on that.....

Stacey posted about this, but thought I would expand a little. We had a really great day at Costa Maya. We booked a private excursion with Dreamtime Diving company. They have a small resort in Mahajual, with a small beach right across the street. They also have at least two very nice boats, and were able to accomodate five of our group diving, and twelve of us for snorkeling. Some of our group just stayed on the beach. They provided a wonderful lunch, towels, cold drinks (beers for $2), and chairs, and there were trees on the beach for shade. They also picked us up at the dock, and paid for taxis to take us back to the port. I'd highly recommend them, it was a really nice day. Take some good bug stuff though, and beware of the sun reflection from the water!

Castaway Cay has not been one of my favorite spots on the cruise. At least up until this cruise. Both days were just WONDERFUL!!! And like Virgil and the others have mentioned, the seas were just beautiful.

Just thought I would comment on our day. My DD(14), DH2B and myself just "explored" the island. My DS(10) wanted to stay in the Lab.
We did the pier shopping area...the pool was very nice but, decided to take a taxi to the beach ($2 each). This is THE most beautiful beach I have EVER been to. There were wave runners ($35 1/2 hr). We went to the last section of beach (at the far end)for our day. The last spot is a hut/bar with swings for bar stools..a massage area...we settled at the small spot (lounge and table/chair) next door. The only cost was 1 drink each...ok, twist my arm! That was the best margurita! It was made with REAL lemon and lime and came in a Fish Bowl (well almost! :rotfl: ). Oh, daughter had Coke...said it was much sweeter than US. DH2B EACH had massage...45min for $20! This was a great massage.

Now, the beach. The water was soo warm, clear and shallow. There were beautiful fish swimming all around and soft sand bar about 20ft from shore. My daughter and I just sat in water watching the fish and discussing how blessed we are in our lives. One of the men selling wares chated with us...he lives in Cancun and comes to CM on "The Boat". He stays there for a week..pays "$20 a day for place to live". My daughter agrees...this was our favorite port (not counting CC). If you want a beach day...this is the spot!

Oh, there were guards(?) at several points...I remember one being across the road from the lighthouse..that are carrying automatic weapons. Just a reminder that we ARE on foreign soil.

We are going on the double dip June 24th. Thanks for posting. We are very interested in any details you can give us for our cruise. Did anyone go to Majahaul beach yesterday in Costa Maya? If anyone did, how was it? Also at Cozumel, we booked the Fury Catamaran Snorkeling excursion. We would appreciate any details on that excursion too. Thanks so much.
Majahaul is a very quaint fishing village that is about as "down to earth" as you can imagine. They don't have public electricity and many of the places use wind generators. Dirt roads, little buildings and friendly people! I thoroughly enjoyed myself as did the other members of our little beach party/diving/snorkel expedition!

We had the most wonderful dive in Cozumel.....Some also dove in Costa Maya....but we wanted ruins one day.

the Coz wall is EVERYTHING that it is described to be....the ocean is hypnotic to the east with the reef to the west (I think....).....the wall goes down and you do need to watch your depth but the guide was professional and marvelous....with pointing out carious critters, fish, coral that were breathtaking......I am having trouble this afternoon trying to edit Sam's photos, so I am sure Kevin will beat me to the punch in posting some.....but check back and I will be posting more.....

Castaway Cay has not been one of my favorite spots on the cruise. At least up until this cruise. Both days were just WONDERFUL!!! And like Virgil and the others have mentioned, the seas were just beautiful.

Here's a shot from Serenity Bay, where we were both times!!! LOVE IT!!

Thanks so much chip&dale&fun for the info on the Native Choice tour! I'm so looking forward to it (and so glad to hear you don't have to be in 'racing trim' to survive it!) ;) Did anybody take a picture of Ivan??? (we have one of David  ) I'm sure I'll come up with some additional questions eventually....or one of my OCPD cruise mates will!

oops, I already have. Sounds like you did the "Mayan Experience" $68 5 hour tour (the one that includes lunch with a local family). Most of us have booked the $45 3.5-4 hour tour, which I ASSUME is the same tour, ours just ends...before lunch! Do you think that's a correct assumption?

I have pictures of the shirts and the bag for this cruise. The shirts cost $14.99 and the bag was $15.00. The shirt also came in a tan color.

Any recommendations for Costa Maya w/ a toddler?

We went to Majahual with DDs (almost 6 & 3.5). We walked about 1/2 way down the street & found a place with some shade from trees. We were allowed to use the chairs but were asked to order drinks/food. We got a bucket of beers. We had a table that was set up in the water. Another DIS family was there with us and once there, we ran in to another DIS couple. It was a great day. The girls played in the sand & water.

Ivan was our server, he was great and the couple of nights the kids joined us they enjoyed his magic. :thumbsup2

Ivan was our server at early seating. I don't think any of us at our table were crazy about him. Sounds like you got different service than us! Toward the end of the week, he made the comment that he was worried that I was hard to please. I guess because I didn't finish my plates of food, he must have been concerned. But, knowing that I had 4 courses to eat, there was no way I could finish anything ... other than the last course - dessert.

One night, can't remember which one, I saw teen/tween kids in the hallway bragging about how many door signs they had stolen. They must have had at least 6 in hand. I wanted to report them but figured they wouldn't be there by the time I found someone.

You all are such a wealth of information!!! :sunny:

Thanks for the pictures of the t-shirt and bag. Is the t-shirt a blue color or does it just look that way because of the lighting? :confused3 Either way, I LOVE the design and can't wait to get one of my own!!! :teeth:

yep, definitely try the lunch- I'm glad we did!
But that is correct- the ones not doing the lunch left at the same time we did- just didn't go to lunch like we did. :)
