Tell me I'm not crazy!!

Ok, we are now just over a week until we leave for DL :banana: We are going to be there from July 3rd (am) until July 10th (am). We (DH,DS,DD&me) are going to staying on site for the whole time. The idea is that we can really do the parks well and take our time. You know, let the kids play as long as they want in the pool/playareas etc... But reading the post I'm starting to have doubts. What happens if we get bored? Does anyone think I'm crazy for doing 3 days at each park (DL&DCA)? I'm really hoping the answer is NO. :teeth:

Heck no!!! I think that is a great plan. This way you aren't rushed. We are going for three days in June after having just been for three days in Feb. and I still feel like we are going to have to rush and not let the kids chill in the pools at all. There is just so much to do and with small kids it takes a bit to get it all done. Besides with extra time you can do the things you LOVE over and over again. :cool1:

If you get bored, you bore easily. We did 4 days last year and still did not get everything we wanted to do, done. Have fun.

We usually go 5 days, without swimming breaks, and still don't do everything(which is one reason I'm avoiding going to WDW, I'm afraid I would go home disappointed because I couldn't do all I wanted). I'm trying to talk my husband into 6 days at DL for our next trip.

We usually go for at least 6 days and we are never bored. In fact I think that taking your time and letting the kids swim is perfect. You will need the break and the kids will be less cranky from sesory overload if you take your time. Have fun!

You will be so glad you have that time believe me! There is nothing to kill the joy of a trip to Disney, whether its DL or WDW, like rushing around and feeling like you are cramming to see and do everything you want to. And since you are staying onsite and likely paying big bucks to do so, how great that you will have time to enjoy your resort's pools and amenities. While Disneyland can be done in three days it can be much better done in four or more. I think you will be surprised at how much Disneyland/DCA have to offer. Geographically they aren't spread out like WDW but its amazing how much they put it into those two parks. At one time, DL/DCA had more rides and attractions than all four WDW theme parks combined. I don't know if thats still true or not but its close at the very least. We have done six full days at Disneyland and we certainly didn't ever get bored or think we made a mistake staying so long. And you won't need to do each park for three days but rather can hop back and forth at random all six days since they are right next to each other. The distance between DCA and DL is about the same as the distance between the turnstiles of MK and the Pop Century bus stop give or take a few yards. Have a great trip!

You guys are making me get all pumped up again. Thank so much for letting me know that there are others that think like me. You just see so much stuff saying things about the beach, universal studios, LA, etc.. that I started to doubt myself. We are BIG disney fans and love to find all the little things that create the magic. I just never could see that those other things would be as much fun as the Disney parks.

Don't feel bad, my kids have been to Disneyland about 10 times in the past three years and we have not ever done anything but Disneyland on any of those trips! (And come to think of it we don't leave WDW property when we are in Orlando.) Our friends make fun of us but we don't care, we just enjoy what we love. And if you love little things that create the magic you will love Disneyland. It is full of charm and magic. Since this was Walt's park there are so many wonderful things to see and enjoy that remind the world that this was all started by a special man. Be sure and look for the light on in the window above the firestation on Main Street. That was Walt's personal apartment and whenever he was on property the light was lit to signify that he was there. Since his death the light is always on to pay tribute to him. And given that you are going during the 50th, everything is really all decked out and beautifully spruced up. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

o.k some say I'm nuts but we did do 8 nights at Disneyland Hotel Pool view room in October 2004. So 8 nights and 9 days was the plan and the only parks we visited was Disneyland And California Adventure. And to be honest I was so sad when we left, I think i could stay a whole month there and never get bored. We opted out of visiting any other park because I felt like I would miss out on the disney fun. So we kept it simple and just went between the 2 parks.

NOO. You ARE crazy,like a fox.But 3 days @ each park? Kind of stretch to me. :confused3

3 days at D/L ,no prob,maybe 1.5 at DCA. Other than that,just kick back and RELAX at your home away from home. ;) imho.

And I think I finally figured out why (at least for our family) - our kids are young (4 and 6) so every time we go to DL, we have to ride their favorite rides EVERY day. For DS6, that's BLAB and SOC. For DS4, that's the monorail and Casey the Train. For both, it's IASW. So once you add in a character meal or show, we don't really have time to add in ALL the rides we want to see, at least in one day. So it's on to the next day, add in a few more rides. By the end of the trip, at least we'll have been on everything at least once, plus their favorite rides a dozen times.

We went last month (April) for only 3 days, and it was way too short. So I think 5-6 days is just right! :thumbsup2

You'll have a great time. I would actually go and not go into the parks at all(probably WDW instead of DL for this) and just enjoy the other things. Great restaurants, pools, fun things. The extra time will be terrific for seeing what you want and not feeling like you have to do it all 'right now!"

i know this might sound wierd but when i suggest 3 day trips to guests i tell them sunday,monday, tuesday (offseason). Then I explain Sunday see all the shows honey the parade of dreams block party bash electrical parade Remember dreams come true fireworks spectacular and of course my favorite fantasmic!. Then for the next 2 days hit DCA and DL you wont feel hurried because its offseason weekdays 10 minute line on everything with a 20 on space mountain lol. Have fun cant wait to see u next week :)

I don't know where you are from, but I noticed that you have been to WDW quite a few times. Does that mean you are closer to the east coast compared to the west? The reason I am asking, is that if you have never been to the beach in Southern California, you are really missing something if you ask me. Ok, everybody now you can flame me!!! Anyways, do you have transportation to get around? Would it be a hassle to get to the beach? Whatever happens, it sounds like you will have plenty to do, and I agree with the others, that you could never get bored just staying at DL. There is soooo much you can do here - you must try something other than Disneyland (especially if you've been to WDW - so much better than DL in my humble opinion!)...Where to start, there is the Getty, Pinks Hot-Dogs, Grauman’s, Rodeo Drive to window shop, drive to Santa Barbara and wine taste - so much fun, the list goes on and on....

Thanks for the thumbs up. I agree with all of your ideas too. I just mentioned the beach because it is so CLOSE!!!! What could be more fun, than grabbing a fire pit next to the Huntington Beach Pier, doing hotdogs and some-mores with their children and watching the whole beach scene. Volleyball, surfing, biking and skating on the strand and as my husband would say...the exotic cars galore!!.:goodvibes Gotta love it! ( Oh I guess Disney can be alot more fun, but in a different way.) :tink:

I agree that we should see more of CA. I want to take other trips to the area to really SEE it. Maybe a trip to San Diego, one to San Fran, etc...
We don't have a car lined up but I figure if we get bored we can always call a cab or the rental place.

It's really good to hear from people who love where they live and want others to see all of the region.

Plus I got to ride Small World once a day because HusbandMan LOVES me!

We are Premium AP holders and have gone six times in the last six weeks. I can't imagine that you would be bored.

First off: Of course you won't be bored! What are you, a family of those non-Disney nuts???? I read about those non-Disney people somewhere... :rotfl2:

Second: You are going for a whole week, planning to do the parks at least some portion of every day. Maybe I've missed some posts, but somebody did suggest you buy APs, right??? That would also lean you towards returning next summer, when...

Third: You could spend some time visiting some of the other types of beauty and excitement California has to offer. If this is a "once in a lifetime" trip for you, you really should see a bit outside of Anaheim. If you hope to return, make it next summer, use your APs and explore!

Fourth: Since you're onsite the entire week, the very first day I'd suggest exploring Harbor Blvd. There are plenty of places within walking distance to eat outside of the theme park fare and prices. I get burned out on theme park food really quickly. :crazy:

When I was planning our first trip to Disneyland, I think it was going to be for 6 nights/7 days, and I was worried this was too much time. DH, the only one of us who has ever been to DL (albeit more than 20 years ago) thought so, and suggested a shorter trip of maybe 4 days. I countered with a side trip to the beach for a few days, but he decided that a longer stay in DL would be just fine. ;)

Once I started reading on the DIS about all the activities, and about going back to the hotel for a mid-day break for the little ones, the more I realized extra days would allow us a more leisurely pace and we could still make sure to see our 'must-do's. In fact, I worried whether this was enough time, given that this is our first trip and we'll want to see almost EVERYTHING. I mean, who knows when we'll be able to come back? (I know, I can hear the DL veterans chuckling already...)

To make a long story short, we had to cancel that trip, but it is now rescheduled for late September. I managed to talk DH into adding another day to the trip ( :teeth: ), and this time scheduled more weekdays, so am hoping we'll be able to cover more ground.

If you are anything like us there is no way you will get board! :cool1: Our first trip to DL we had 3 park days before heading to Carlsbad and a week in a timeshare near the beach. We left feeling like we needed more so we drove back for one more day the next week. Our second trip we did 5 park days and could have did more! Our last trip we did 7 park days and this was off season even! I wouldn't want to plan for any less for our next trip. We also like to do our favorite rides over and over and over..... :thumbsup2 You'll have a blast! If you do decide you want a short side trip, however, the Ocean is awsome to see. We did not get there on our last trip and I regret it. We will catch it for sure on our next trip.
