Okay, I posted this on another thread, but this is a pic of me I just scanned in from 1978. This is me in what at the time was King Stefan's Banquet Hall (now CRT) at age 12. I'm the one on the booth side in the white t-shirt and glasses with my mom and younger brothers. Last time I was in the castle too!!

nikkilovesWDW -
I just watched your "Growing Up Disney" video too. After reading nittany's post I should have known not to watch it work. I'm sitting at my desk quickly wiping away the tears. It is a very beautiful and sweet video.
It has already been posted but I cannot find it, so would someone please post the link to the video? Thanks.

Oh man, that video was killing me! Absolutely reminded me of my sister and me. Loved the end with the ladies taking their children to Disney. It got me, I admit it!!! ::MinnieMo

I'm excited because I just found an old photo album with pictures from a 1986 trip to California with my grandparents. They took me to Disneyland, Universal Studios and Sea World. I'll scan and post some pictures later today.

I adore this thread! I really enjoy looking at all the pictures. It's so fun to see how things can change and how some other things just stay the same. I wish I could remember the parks being so empty. That would be a dream come true! Keep the pictures coming!!! :yay:

The riding crop is used as some sort of "reward" for the CM. I believe that this CM is a tour guide on the "Keys to the Kingdom" tour. When I took the tour many years ago, the guide we had was given hers in an elaborate presentation at the end of our tour.
They told us why then, but years of neglect have clouded over my memory file in my brain and I cannot remember what it was for. Maybe a certain number of tours given?

NikkilovesWDW - as a parent who has been taking their children to WDW for years now, your video warms my heart to no end. i hope that someday, my children can look back over their many trips to WDW with each other with such fondness and even better, continue to enjoy it with their own families.

Hey everyone! Thanks so much for the kind comments about my "Growing Up Disney" video. I didn't realize so many of you were crying over it until this thread was bumped this morning and I checked it! I'm so glad so many of you liked it! That makes me so happy. I watch that video at least once a week! Haha. I consider myself very fortunate to have gone to Disney so much growing up and even more fortunate that I had a sister to experience it with! Nowadays, most of our trips are not with each other but our paths will cross on my next trip...coincidentally, the last day of her trip will be the first day of mine so we are going to try to meet up, if only for a few hours. I reeeeally want to recreate some old pictures from that video. I am specifically interested in doing this pose with her again (minus the horizontal-striped rompers!). I love how so much of Epcot is still exactly the same as it always was!

Nikki, I watched your videos again, your Growing up Disney and your Honeymoon ones. I have viewed them a few times last year, they are so good. And one I had not seen before, your WDW Through Our Eyes. All three of them really, REALLY bring out and show your love, your family's love, and now your hubby's love, for all things Disney. They are superb!!! I have always enjoyed reading your posts, they too show that exuberance. Your students are probably getting it from you too. The videos were great, I am sure I will watch time again in the future, when I need a smile, maybe a happy moist eye, or confirmation that it is not only me who is nuts about Disney. And your Don't Rain on My Parade is pretty darn neat too, very creative. Thanks for sharing all.

Oh, thank you so much, Dan! I really appreciate all the nice things you wrote. I'm so happy that other people are enjoying the videos that I made. Obviously, I love Disney so much and I'm happy to know that it comes through in those videos. First and foremost, I want to make memories for myself and my family but it's also nice to create something that other Disney fans can appreciate and shows non-disney fans that it really is an awesome place to go! WDW Through Our Eyes was done from this past summer's trip. :thumbsup2
Yes, my students are definitely loving my disney obsession and it is rubbing off on them! Four of my students randomly drew a picture of Mickey on their spelling tests just this morning and yesterday one girl took a book on Florida out of the library and was so excited to show me that Disney World was in the book! I love it!
Thanks again, Dan!

Great Video Nikki! We started going with our two children when DD was 10 months and DS 4, it was for his birthday. We have taken a trip every year since, they are now 14 and 17! When you showed pictures with your own children I began to tear up. What a wonderful and loving tradition that you have passed on. I hope all your Disney Trips continue to be just as magical! Thanks for sharing. :)

If you'll take a look at that user's posting history/times, it's an obvious effort to boost post count.

The Stocks are still there. They are in Liberty Square at the place the parade route turns.
I'm not so sure If i remember the seated version of the stocks still being there (been awhile)... but I know for certain the stand up version is still there on the platform
I remember the strollers but I can't remember when Mickey was dressed like that. Thanks for sharing.

There use to be a lot of cigarette smoking at Disney World. This may sound weird, but even now sometimes when I smell cigarette smoke, I think of Disney World! :confused3:rotfl::confused3

This thread is really cool so I found some pictures that I took in 1978 when I was there with my girl scout troop. I was 14. I have pics from Ft. Wilderness, Discovery Island, River Country, and MK. I don't have any interesting pics or I would post them. I know that I went to Disney with my parents in 75 or 76 but I don't have any pics. I went again in 1982 on a band trip and it was the 10th anniversary. I will try to post pics.

I scanned lots of Magic Kingdom map and brochures and some A and B and C tickets from my 1979 trip as well as maps etc. from my 1990s trips. You can find them in the Disney link below.
There's a list of which attractions were considered "E" ticket and so on as well as pictures of the "Pepto Bismol" castle of 1997.

I only got as far as page 10 so far, but wanted to post my observations..go back and look at those first 10 pages of pics and you will see a lot less "water buffalos" We ,Americans, have sure let our bodies fall apart. The next interesting thing is people are wearing clothes. Their bodies are in better shape, and they still have the decency not to wear clothes(or bikinis or halter tops) or other variety of clothes that let the good times roll out.
Um, pickles, looking at the, er, skimpy clothing the MEN are wearing, I can't help but wonder: did a teenager in 2010 have it better or HER mom?:rotfl: It cracks me up that a few of the pics look like a contest of "I'm wearing less than you!":rotfl2:

I may have to disagree with you. I think what men use to wear was way to revealing! Those short "hot pant" shorts...haha! :rotfl2: No one needs or want to see all that...haha!! :rotfl: I don't want to see that much of any man! I'm glad that has changed!! I can't imaging seeing men in those getting in and out of rides....haha!! Woah!! :rotfl2:
Fairy_tale_bride, I have this to say: there is nothing more horrifying than going through family photo albums from the 1970s and seeing your dear father in orange hot pants! I cannot believe M E N wore them but some of the pictures posted on this thread have tragically proven that men did wear them! Makes me wonder if any older women are having a LOT of fun looking at these pictures!
I have this to add: I've never been soooooo glad to be a child of the 80s. Oh, and I did stumble across some pics of my parents' first apartment just after they got married. The decor and furniture screamed "WE ARE HIPPIES!!" And horror of horrors: even at work, my boss said he was a Hippy too! Makes me wonder: there was a Disneyland so is there a Hippyland anywhere?:scared1:

The wheel in the pics is on opposite sides... am I wrong in recalling that there were two suits side by side? Much to my son's dismay, they removed these when they renovated for the nemo ride. He was looking forward to finally being able to ready the controls in the hands.
I went back to WDW last year. God, the Nemo ride just stinks. I can't believe a kid would like it. I imagine myself as a kid at some of these rides and they wouldn't interest me at all.

These pictures are making me weepy with nostalgia. I haven't put up any pics yet because I've spent the last two days rummaging through 15 (yes, fifteen) 12x10x18" boxes of photos in my parents' attic in a desperate hunt for the Disney World pictures. I'm on box no. 6 and still haven't found them. But can someone enlighten me on this: was there a theme park called Camp Snoopy or a Peanuts theme park? I found pics dated around 1984 where I'm standing in front of a wooden house next to Snoopy! Sadly, I can't remember having ever gone to a Peanuts theme park before.

Not at Disney. But Camp Snoopy is now at Cedar Point (and I think other Cedar Fair owned parks). But it wasn't there in he 80's. Not sure who had the Peanuts rights back then.
Edit....I did a seach and it might've been Knotts Berry Farm

This thread is great! Although, I'm getting all teary-eyed for the past. WDW imagery triggers so many memories of childhood and my greatly missed grandparents. Thanks for posting! It really is fascinating. Can anyone recommend a historical & pictoral book of the World? It would make a great gift for my dad :thanks:

Apparently Jafar liked to steal peoples autograph books in the 90's! This picture reminds me a story my friend told me about Jafar when he went to WDW in the 90's as a young child...Jafar took his autograph book after signing it and pretended to eat it. My friend started crying, even though Jafar offered it back to him...he's still bitter about it and he's hated Jafar ever since! :lmao:

:surfweb:Here are a few that I posted to a thread on the Dis Photography board, all made with the Kodak Pocket 30, 110 format slide:

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j11/fasteddiew/DisneyWorld%201970s/DSC_0035.jpg
Considering the age (30+ years), the medium (110 format) and the conversion method (see below), I'm pretty happy with them.
I just found this thread and enjoying every post. I forgot all about the swan boats. What years did they run and where did they go?
************************************************** ******
Redundant, but noted again, in case anyone is interested in trying this method:
Conversion method: projection onto 20" X 30" foam core board, using Kodak Carousel slide projector, captured using Nikon D50 dSLR, 18-135mm lens, ISO 200, f/7.1 aperture, shutter set by camera, based on CW average auto-metering. Some PP (crop, sharpen, straighten, adjust WB, adjust contrast) done in Picasa2. How's that for el-cheapo (Nikon equipment notwithstanding)?

I want to say walking away from Tomorrowland towards the hub. In the background to the left you can see the white support for the pre-"tomorrow that never was" WEDWAY, and the tile mosaic in the majority of the background looks like it could be the old waterfall slope that went from the roof down into the moat.
While i don't really have a lot of memories of the tilework, it seems like the most obvious answer to the location issue due to the WEDWAY support beam and fact the railing strongly hints at your being on a bridge.

My old Disney park pictures are at my parents' house, but I do have some old Disney tickets scanned - they were my parents', when they went for their honeymoon.

Can you believe that 1-day park admission was only $13??? And EPCOT wasn't even open yet!
I also hate that they changed the "adult" age to 10 years old!! Since when are you considered an adult at 10? My daughter is 10 this year, so we have to pay the adult price. That's just crazy if you ask me... Apparently they used to know that childhood lasts longer.

I think that was the Rivers of America when it was drained in 1990. Spalsh Mountain would be where the trees are on the right of the picture.

There is another picture of Adventureland where you can see the "River" drained.
I think that the area under construction is the shady area across from Big Thunder.

1979 - Can't remember if I posted this one before or not but this one always puzzles me a bit. That bridge in the background is long gone; must have disappeared with the building of Big Thunder Mountain RR.
http://klmall.smugmug.com/Disney/Disney-1979/i-jvQcStw/0/L/IMG0010-L.jpg
I think that bridge is still there.... it's just hidden now behind Big Thunder.
It looks like the Riverboat is docked just off the Rivers Of America in the little canal that connects with the Seven Seas Lagoon. The Bridge is the railroad tracks over the canal.
These days the exact spot the boat is tied up is where Big Thunder meets the water. (I think I usually see a tom sawyer raft or 2 tied up in the general area).
The bridge is no longer that same shade of blue, but if you look to the left of your forward motion on the riverboat as you pass big Thunder you can still see the bridge crossing the canal . Personally, i've always noticed the mechanism under the bridge where they can rotate it out of the way to allow a boat to pass. i've always wanted to see them move the bridge.

Just thought I would share on here an 8mm film my dad shot of Disneyland back in Aug. 1967. My parents visited Disneyland (and CA) for the first time that summer. The footage isn't perfect, but he really captured all the main highlights. What a year to go and see the 'new' Tomorrowland!

Would love to see other people's old footage. If you have links, do share! :thumbsup2
I love this thread by the way! LOVE it!

It's great to see people contributing so much lately.
I especially love the Captain Hook photo and lights from the Contemporary but honestly every photo and the old films are wonderful too!
Thanks all and this is the best thread I agree!!!

I've already got a bunch more loaded. Not as old, but a little better quality.
Judging by my daughter's size, I think this is the 1st year that MGM was open (1989).

Looks like it was May 14, 1990 according to the time stamp in the lower left corner of your pics :)

But back then they also printed the date the photos were developed so this date could be misleading. I have hundreds of pictures with dates months after the actual event shown.

I believe we went in April of 90. I think the park opened at the end of May in 89, so we caught it just about a month before 1 year anniversary. I have to agree thought that back in the "good old film" days, the stamp was when the processing was done. DH took so many pictures that we kept a bag in the freezer (don't ask me why) and during the winter when we didn't have so many, we would just pull a couple of random rolls and get surprised. I had forgotten all about the freezer bag until this thread. Thanks for the reminder! :thumbsup2

This was waiting for the character breakfast on the Empress Lilly riverboat at Disney Village. They gave us a pop-up card of the boat along with a button, certificate, and pennant. It was sometime between 1980 and 1984.

The little nook that used to divide the blocks where the emporium expanded. They used to have white iron flower wagon and benches. It was a nice photo spot.

When it used to be Communicore East and West, there was a robot at EPCOT that would draw your picture. This is my daughter's portrait.

Before Push or the talking water fountain, there was GERO, the Horizons robot. My daughter gave him a big kiss because her grandfather and I were GE employees. We used to go up in the hospitality room for refreshments. They had a live video camera mounted on the roof that you could control remotely from inside to get a look around EPCOT. Then they would give you an escort to a private entrance to the ride.

When I was going through the pictures, I too was amazed by the crowds. Now we were there in February, but the crowds were non-exsistant. There is a picture of Minnie and myself from 81 that I have that there is no one around us, it is just us two.

I actually did too but I remember all the uproar at the time especially from brides who wanted their pictures taken in front of the castle.
