wow! these are great pictures. all those late 70's to the mid 80's were my childhood! i'll have to go thru my albums. gonna have to take digitals of the albums, our scanner died awhile ago. i know i have pictures of the "heads" in epcot. i thought i was the only one who remembered those!
also remember riding the skyway in '95. the only time i ever rode it (i hate heights!) i have a few pictures from that ride i can share.
i also remember spending many a time at river country! i was little and went on one of the big slides. i can still see my dad practically walking on water going OH !##$&*! trying to get to me. LOL my grandparents went within the 1st year of WDW opening. we have the ticket book and if i remember correctly, there wasn't anything torn out. i really need to put this all in an album now!
the outfits are great in the early day photo's. i'm pretty sure i have a bunch with fun outfits in them ;) and i know there are pics of the electrical light parade. even before i saw this thread, i had hubby make the song a ring tone for me. every time it starts to play, i go where's that's coming from? :rotfl:
so after dinner, i will go hunt photo's down. hubby can watch son tonight :)

Yep, Donald's birthday celebration was 1984.... I was there in June 84.
It was DM, DB, DD and me. I remember that parade....even remember right where we sat to watch it! :):thumbsup2

You know, looking back thru all these great old pics I can't help but find myself wishing I wasn't the good little kid who stopped and let people take their pics all these years. Maybe I might have been able to spot myself in a few of them otherwise. :-)
The funny thing from seeing those pics, I can remember the old horse-drawn trolley down mainstreet.....Remember how you knew a parade was coming when you saw them throwing the rubber "fillers" into the tracks going down the street.....And when after you didn't see the old horse-drawn trolley much anymore on main street, those rubber fillers started to be regularly spotted in front of various attractions as stroller parking.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again.... I'm too young to feel this old!

I remember it was a really big deal in those days ;). There was nothing that was anything like WDW. It had the biggest and best of innovations. The Spectromagic parade was so incredible and the Carousel of Progress's automation was unbelievable - we had never seen anything like it . Then again 1977 was the year the first home computers were sold with a whopping 4 KB of memory  we thought it was all that. Even now, everytime I go back to WDW there is still something that blows me away with how innovative and creative the engineers and designers are at WDW.

I honestly think I see my family's mobile home in this picture (or one JUST like it) - We would visit the parks very often in 1984 :) Here is a funny story for you - We would take our parrot and leave her in the mobile home with the windows open - extremely fine for an amazon bird. Well, she could sound like a baby and someone walked past and thought we had left an infant in the mobile home. The police came into the park to find my parents!! :scared1: My parents told them it was our bird, but the didn't believe us. We had to take them and show them Lolly! LOL! We still have Lolly, but don't take her to Disney anymore. :lmao:

A few from July 1976 - The Bicentennial Year. Was going through some old slides and came across these Ektachrome slides. I was delighted to see how well the images have held up over the years. These are all edited to some degree, using editing tools that certainly were not available to me in 1976 so, in some cases, the scanned images are actually better than the original transparencies:

OK, this goes against all better judgment, but I figure if you can't laugh at yourself, your world isn't a very good place! So, I took some digital pics of the pics. Oooh, this is scary stuff. People, please, viewer discretion is advised!
Yep, and I thought I was H-O-T and cool at the same time. I was hoping to run into Damon from The Mickey Mouse Club while we were there. He could have never resisted me!!!!!

I know this post if from a year ago, but I just came across this thread yesterday and have been enjoying it alot. I will have to find and scan my pictures when I went in July 1984.
Posters keep asking if anyone sees theirself in other's pictures. Well I think I have spotted my self in this picture. I think I'm the gentleman with the thoughtful look on the left side of the picture same row as the poster. Can't really see the detail enough and I don't have the software to bring it in clearer if I enlarge the picture. Just wanted to let you know it is possible to find yourself in someone else's pictures. (maybe)

I LOVE THIS TREAD! I am going to dig through all my old photos. As a little one we were more Disneyland people because grandma lived in LA. My first trip to world was when I went with my HS band my freshman year. I know I have many pictures that will embarrass family friends and countrymen. I am going to look now!
It is funny to think that as much as things change they stay the same. Main street, the castle (minus the cake year) that is one of the reasons we always LOVE:love:

The stairs you see from the people mover to astro orbiter are emergency stairs if the elevator stops working.
They don't let you use the stairs at all otherwise.
The only way to and from the people mover is by the goodyear tire ramp.
They only way to and from the astro orbiter is the elevator.

After three days of several hours each, I have now read every post, followed every link, and seen every picture! I shared many with other members of my family too. I must say this is my favorite thread ever on this site! Many, many thanks to all of you who have taken the time to dig up pictures, scan them, edit them, and post them!!!!!! Kudos! I now not only want to dig up my old Disney photos, but this has made me realize how urgently I need to scan in all my old photos, mine and my dad's old slides, and his old photos dating back from the 1930s. He always said slides held up the best, and I believe it. Thank you again, all of you, for this trip down memory lane and the push to get going on my own photos!
OneTreeHillAddict - there are many who still want to know how you got into RC to get those pictures.

Most newer flatbed scanners have slide and film holders, (often in the lid) an software to go withth it. You can also buy dedicated film and slide scanners from $50 and upwards.

If you don't have a scanner that can do it, and still have your slide projector, you can project the slides onto some white foam board and take a picture of the slide that way. I read this on this thread. My son did it, and they turned out pretty good!

I love this thread! I am going to work on scanning some of my old pics and posting them.
And can I just say that I really miss the skyway :( That was always one of my favorites and you could always get some awesome pictures!
One thing, I really wish someone would go through and delete the old posts with bad links. It makes going through the earlier pages pretty difficult.
Keep the pictures coming and I'll work on putting up some of my (not-really that old) ones!

I found some VHS tapes when my dad took his video camera to WDW. They are really fun to watch and I think I even cried during one of them (missed WDW too much!) My dad loves to tell the story about how I lost his watch in the park - I wouldn't stop crying and m dad gave me his watch so that I would be quiet. He never saw it again....
Anyway, I def. want to find more WDW photos from when I was little. I found one where I'm sitting on near a tree in the T&TC and I have this cute little smile on my face. :wizard:

The Main Street Electrical Parade is my all time favorite Disney Parade!!!
I got the chance to experience it again with my kids when I took them to DLR in 2002. I instantly turned back in to a little kid as I watched those floats go by. I know my kids thought I was crazy :rotfl:
I love listening to the music from The Main Street Electrical Parade on DISradio. It really takes me to my happy place!
I can't hear that music without crying like a baby. During our first trips, we saw that parade twice a night, so it's burned into my heart  We saw Spectro when it first started - we were there for the first nights, and we thought it was really cool, but it didn't feel as sweet as the MSEP.
We bought a WDW CD back in the early 90s so we have all of the music, including the parade. Apparently this is a major collector's item. We still sing Veggie Fruit Fruit, and One Little Spark!
Hi Sharadoc -
I see in your signature that you will be at WDW during Summer Nightastic. How great is it that the Main Street Electrical Parade is coming back to WDW for the summer?!!!
It looks like my May trip might not happen so I am seriously thinking about moving our December trip up to August so I can see the parade again in person!!!

How's come all those kids in that picture are so skinny? Didn't kids get fed back then? :)
It's everyone, not just the kids. I see very few overweight adults in these pictures then too.
It's our food. Gross full of corn syrup, fillers, flavoring and fast food. I think lack of exercise is only a little of it.

haha.... but I think I see one that isn't "skinny"....
look just lower left of center..... climbing ladder just getting out of the water. :lmao: He looks pretty normal!
anyway..... another poster was so right about how the food has changed. This country went through the "value meal" phase!!! and we saw alot of kids and adults grow with it!!
AND the social acceptance of larger people. There's no longer the social or peer pressure or be thin.
But now.... I think we are turning the corner, there is a better understanding of "healthy" vs. "thin"!!
even though the general public may seem heavier..... I think we are all getting "healthier"!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Michael Iceberg is an American (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/United_States) musician. He is most noted as a performer at Walt Disney World (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Walt_Disney_World) and Disneyland (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Disneyland_Park) in the mid-1970s to late-1980s and a highly visible early-adopter of new keyboard and synthesizer (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Synthesizer) technology. Thousands of visitors to the parks over the years enjoyed his frenetic live performances on his Amazing Iceberg Machine which were demonstrations of his prowess as a keyboard performer and his ingenuity in creating new sounds. The show was performed at Walt Disney World's Tomorrowland Terrace where Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe currently sits, Disneyland's Tomorrowland Terrace (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Tomorrowland_Terrace), and also on the Disneyland Space Stage (where the Magic Eye Theater was built to accommodate the Captain EO (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Captain_EO) 3-D film (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/3-D_film)).
Michael's "machine" was created from a collection of synthesizers and mixing devices that he referred to as "The Mechanical Contraption". The result was humorous, educational and amazing. Hunter S. Thompson (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Hunter_S._Thompson) once said about Michael: "Now, here's somebody crazier than me!"[2] (http://www.disboards.com/#cite_note-1)
During the mid- to late-1970s, Michael used a custom Chamberlin (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Chamberlin) he had put together (an ancestor to the Mellotron (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Mellotron)), using bicycle gearing to change voicings while he played, an Oberheim (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Oberheim) 4-voice synthesizer and DS-2 Digital Sequencer, a prototype Moog Polymoog synthesizer (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Moog_synthesizer), which was later sold to make way for a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Synthesizer with sequencer, as well as other bits and pieces, some of which were custom-made or modified to facilitate playing in live performance by one person. The Chamberlin was often used to play back sound effects, such as the horse whinny during the William Tell Overture (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/William_Tell_Overture), wind effects, or to simulate having pigs "sing in A", as well as providing realistic violin sounds. Michael's programs featured arrangements of classical pieces and movie music, including a Baroque Hoedown, the Star Wars (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Star_Wars) and Close Encounters (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Close_Encounters_of_the_Third_Kind) themes, and the end of the William Tell Overture ("Lone Ranger theme") as the close to the show. There were also some rock-oriented songs (the Moody Blues' "Nights in White Satin"), Disney songs and an original ("Fanfare") that Michael wrote for daughter Wendy, which he sang at many of his shows.
A major portion of Michael's show was the visual presentation, which started off with a mirror behind and above him, that allowed audiences to see him play his multiple keyboards. Eventually, the "machine" came to encompass a 10-foot pyramid that opened up to reveal Michael and the Machine inside, with the mirror in the top part of the pyramid, an extensive light show and dry ice fog.
Michael had many guest performances and performed on Johnny Carson (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Johnny_Carson)'s Tonight Show (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Tonight_Show).
After leaving Disney (where he eventually performed at both Disney World in Florida and at Disneyland in California), Michael played the Iceberg Machine on corporate engagements and occasional shows at colleges. These allowed him to return to his hometown of Aspen, Colorado (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Aspen,_Colorado) and semi-retire where he lived as a neighbor to Michael Eisner (http://www.disboards.com/wiki/Michael_Eisner) above Snowmass Creek.

The picture was taken in Liberty Square. The park was so different back then. We were staying at the Contemporary. There was only the Contemporary or the Polynesian. My brother and I took the monorail to MK and rode the ride "If You Had Wings" over and over again. I think we rode about 12 times in a row. You didn't need a ticket for that ride. Other rides required different tickets.
Wow Liberty Square looks so different and so empty! I wish I could go back in time just for a day and experience the parks as they were. So cool!

Never did the character breakfast at the Empress Lilly but my DBro did have his wedding reception there! It was probably almost 30yrs ago though.

Socks with sandals are no longer an issue. No one even notices anymore. Now its socks with crocs. Some say no, others say yes...I say it doesn't matter. Whatever makes one comfortable. The only beauty of aging is the ability to not give a shake about what others think.
Personally I would prefer to not wear socks with them but my feet sweat too much and make my foot hurt. So, on with the socks and anyone that thinks that makes me "weird", well I'm OK with that.

I'm vehemently against socks with sandals, but much more laid back about socks with crocs. Crocs are already known as ugly shoes, I don't think socks are going to make them much worse. ;) (Ignore the fact that I have "cute" crocs and not the standard "ugly" ones.)
This thread has been fantastic. I never got to go to Disney as a kid, so I had no idea what it used to be like. I wish I'd gotten to see the Roger Rabbit stuff though. Oh and Ninja Turtles of course. Even if I wasn't a fan of April. :snooty:

This is not really that old of a photo, 1985, but I thought it interesting to see Le Chefs de France before they enclosed the sidewalk café... did you know that the window seats used to be outside seats? Once you know that fact it is pretty easy to see the demarkation inside the dining room. I think it's pretty neat, anyhow.

Isnt this in Adventureland? Its the rock which moves when you stand on it? It moves like a seesaw :goodvibes
sorry i didn't see this. i posted it so long ago and i don't check all my threads regularly any more - don't have time! the real world stinks. but my friend tara told me she saw it and someone had a question about it.
i'm not exactly sure where that is but if i had to guess i would say adventureland, probably somewhere near tom sawyler island. it was 1992 though so it may not be there any more.

Just wanted to say thank you to those who helped touch up my old photos. My DH (Wizzzzzard) posted them originally. I loved looking at them. I also love seeing all the old pics that everyone else has posted. I don't have many other vintage pics of the parks, but I was there in the mid '80s and it is great to see pics of what I saw when I was there. Thanks for bringing back all my memories and helping pass the last few days/weeks before my next trip "home".

I'm in the process of scanning some old family photos, thought I'd share a few that were taken at WDW in April 1972...
On the monorail, on the way in from the parking lot. I can't get over the lack of landscaping. Then again, the park was only 6 months old at this point.

Wow...for $20 now, you can just about park your car at the TTC and watch the monorail go by, LOL.
Wish I had saved those old park tickets. What a fun souvenir to have.

I just dug up an old scrapbook of Disney World guides, tickets, etc, at my parents house. I believe our trip was April 1978. If I can, I'll scan and post a few things. Parking was 50 cents, a two day, "16 adventure" ticket booklet was $16, and I had circled in the guide books that we went on the Skyway (I remember that my hat flew off, never to be seen again!), 20, 000 Leagues, The Mickey Mouse Revue (had to look that one up), "If You Had Wings," and Circle-Vision 360 "America the Beautiful." both FREE! And I was upset that we didn't get to go to River Country!

"Rap'n'Roll" pic looks to be at the old Fantasy Faire open air stage in Fantasyland. It was back where Ariel's Grotto was, all removed for the Fantasy Forrest expansion. Compare the "Rap'n'Roll" pic to when "Totally Minnie" was performed there.(1986) Note the greenery on both sides of the stage in both pics.
http://photopost.wdwinfo.com/data/500/medium/86-23_copy.jpg
I think the last photo is the original Theater of the Stars at MGM Studios which was torn down (1993) for the Sunset Blvd expansion. It could be one of these shows:
Show Biz Is ?/89 - ?/89
Now Playing 5/89 - ?/89
Hollywood! Hollywood! 7/89? - ?/?
Hollywoods Pretty Woman 12/89? - 4/90

The "Rap & Roll" show was on the Tomorrowland Theater stage in the early 90's. The theater sits between the Carousel of Progress and what is now Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin.
There's a video of it here (http://www.martinsvids.net/?p=403).

It's all coming back to me now  I'm sure it was in Tomorrowland but it was definately 1988 or 1989 that the photo is from.
Thinking about it, it must have been 1989 when I went because MGM Studios had opened that year, and vonpluto you're right the show with Roger Rabbit was there :cheer2:

Here's a video from August 1990. They rarely use this venue any more at EPCOT.

Oh my gosh, I JUST said the same thing to my DH how the trees have grown! Something you don't notice when you go a lot - until you look at this pics!

Some trees have grown but others have disappeared! When I looked through my old photos, I was shocked to see these 2 giant trees in the hub! This first one was from 1995, the second one from 1998....so sometimes between those 2 dates, those trees were either removed or drastically trimmed so not to obstruct the view of the castle!

Wow! I LOVE that you cant actually SEE the Haunted Mansion! They should trim some of those trees. Whenever I'm there, I always try to find a place to get a good angle of the HM and you just can't!
