Well I know that,( always had a perm too ;) ) but if they are supposed to be in character, shouldn't they look like the character? LOL! I like the way Alice looks now. I think t hey got muchbetter with the costumes over the years.
I'm all about staying in character, but maybe she was taking a cue from the Big Cheese himself. Even us humans were not immune to bad fashion! :scared:

It looks like Alice's actual hair, rather than a wig.
That's right I think,
it was when the "face" characters still had their own hair and were not required to wear wigs. Now they have to wear the wigs so you aren't supposed to tell them apart.
But kids are smarter than Disney gives them credit for.;)

Greatest... Thread... Ever... I just went through all 84 pages. Maybe I should work now...
Keep 'em coming!!! I'll have to talk to my father and see if I can't get my hands on photos of our earlier trips back in the late 70's early 80's!
Meanwhile... popcorn::

By the way, the full name of Grandma Duck is actually Elvira "Grandma Duck" Coot , but she is always referred to as Grandma Duck. I saw her once in a TV Walt Disney Easter parade in the early nineties. She was walking along with Gladstone Gander. I totally wish these characters would be available for meet&greet:lovestruc
 Wow, I didn't know Gladstone was a ever a character in the parks! :)

I am pretty sure this was in Inniventions but it was 1999.
My DH (always willing to try anything) He sat there reading the lines on the prompter and was talking to Jay Leno (I think!!) on the screen. Brave Man!!

Actually this was at the Studios . It's the theater next to the Sound Stage. They would pick people to appear as if they were on one of several TV shows. This one was the Johnny Carson show. I got picked for this one once.

What are Elfins?
They were multicolored fairy elf characters in the Tapestry of Dreams or Tapestry of Nations parade held in Epcot in 2000 - 2001. I believe I saw them on floats as well as walking in the parade.

According to Wikipedia, it ran until 1996:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Street_Electrical_Parade
I remember seeing it with my wife in 1995 during our honeymoon and many times on our frequent family vacations when I was a kid. I can't tell you what the parade was in 1999 when we went there for our 4th anniversary. The music for Main Street Electrical Parade was "Baroque Hoedown" which is my favorite piece of Disney Music ever. Took me forever to find a copy. Brings a smile to my face and takes me back to my childhood whenever my iPod decides to play it.

They brought back Mainstreet Electrical Parade for the Millenium Celebration....
Spring '99 through April 2001.
here's a quote from Wikipedia....
The parade was refurbished and appeared at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World in May of 1999 for a limited engagement. The parade ended its run in Magic Kingdom on April 1, 2001. The floats were sent back to California for the parade's return to Disneyland.
When Spectro came back we were really disappointed!

Most of your photos in this post and the first one look like the the old Journey into Imagination and the old "futuristic" playground after the ride. I am not certain about the second to last one, but I know the last one is indeed from the El Rio del Tiempo ride in the Mexican pavilion.

I was thinking it was that place that used to be on the second floor...oh wait are we thinking of the same thing?
I think one of the shots MIGHT be the hydroponic (sp?) plants at the Living with the Land ride.....
And what is that guys name again - I am having a brain freeze - the Dreamfinder?

Yeah, same thing. My memory is hazy about the ride's relation to the playground, but I do remember that tunnel of lights and the cool games that used to be in there. I was actually up on that second floor recently when they were testing that Kim Possible themed game. The end of the adventure was up there and they fixed up a room to look like Dr. Drakken's lab. Pretty neat stuff.

I don't remember being at Circus World but I was when I was still in a stroller. There's a wonderful shot my mom has of me with my face done up like a clown.
And I do recognize that old Shamu! I have a picture of me with him, again when I was quite little.
Speaking of Shamu, does anyone have a picture of those old shamu strollers that they used to rent out in Sea World. I was quite disappointed to find out this year that they just have regular boring ones now.

For the people that were Main Street Electrical Parade fans, it's currently being performed at Disney's California Adventure. Also, They Might Be Giants recorded a new version of the Baroque Hoedown for the Disney Mania 2 CD a couple of years ago. The entire, full-length audio for the parade is on Disc 6 of A Musical History of Disneyland. :thumbsup2

The pictures from the Main Street Electrical Parade were from August of 1999. I remember that because it was summer before my Senior year.
I got to see the parade again in Disneyland this past April (except now it's called "Disney's Electrical Parade")! I was so excited because that was one of my favorite parades as a kid!!!

Actually, it was $71 and now it's $75 but really it's all about perspective. Sure the cost of a day's ticket was more than half what it is now but the costs of everything else and the standard of living have gone up proportionally as well.

So, I was looking through old photos last night, and I found this one of my grandmother from...I think the 70's. The picture doesn't have a date or location on it anywhere, and I know that she travelled a lot so it really could be DL or WDW. Anyone recognize what's behind her? I can't place it.

Here are some from my family's trip in 1979. I'm the smallest boy in each.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g201/lockardaw/th_BoyswithAlice.jpg
I like Alice with her real hair!
But I think growing up with regular visits really impacted me. It's so hard to explain. It makes sense in my head but it's very hard to put it into words. There is something different about WDW. I can go to other theme or amusement parks and have fun, but I never feel like I do at WDW. It truly feels like going home. So much of my childhood is benchmarked there. I can walk down Main Street and (unfortunately only in my mind's eye) vividly remember the picture we had to take in front of the flower carts every single trip. I remember my grandpap dragging us into Hall of Presidents every day we were in the MK so he could take a catnap in the back row. I remember riding Dumbo with grandma for the last ride of the night. I remember finally working up the courage to ride Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion, the latter I distinctly remember listening my way through because my hands were firmly glued to my eyes except a quick peek through fingers to see the ghost hitching a ride with us.
Even as the parks have grown, I feel like they've grown with me or me with them. As attractions were added or replaced, I can remember where I was in my life when they were new.
To a lot of people, it's corny and silly. But to me, and probably many people here, it makes sense. All I know is that I can't wait to have kids of my own and start all over.
Aww, that just made me cry! It's so true! I know EXACTLY what you mean! I bet most of us here understand perfectly too.
Here are some from 1974.

Whew! I just spent the last 5 hours looking at all these great old photos. Really nostalgic for me. I think a lot of our older Disney pics were lost in my grandparent's floods (yes, floods, 4 of them). This first set are ones i found in my grandfather's dresser after his death. The first two are from April 1972, and are obviously from MK. The third is from the same set of slides, and had the same frame, but I don't recognize it. Perhaps an earlier rendition of JC, or maybe 20,000?

Another favorite from the World of Motion, the Lean Machine! I doubt I ever rode WoM without watching the Lean Machine video at least three times. Alas, that area was quite dark and I never got a decent shot of the real thing, so the brochure will have to do...

I can't hear that music without crying like a baby. During our first trips, we saw that parade twice a night, so it's burned into my heart  We saw Spectro when it first started - we were there for the first nights, and we thought it was really cool, but it didn't feel as sweet as the MSEP.
We bought a WDW CD back in the early 90s so we have all of the music, including the parade. Apparently this is a major collector's item. We still sing Veggie Fruit Fruit, and One Little Spark!

I don't know what show this is either. Definitely different than anything that is there now.
Still looking through more slides.

That last picture is the Mickey Mouse Revue, which was where Philharmagic is now. I don't really have any memories of it, but i have an old pop-up book of WDW from my childhood (that I still LOVE  ) that has it in there. So I keep thinking I remember it, but it's really from the book.
I think the show is at Tokyo DL now.

Yes, it was called Legend of the Lion King. It wasn't as good as Festival of the Lion King, but it was still pretty good.

And before that (but after the Mickey Mouse Revue) I believe there was something called Magic Journeys. :thumbsup2 :) :simba:

Yes, It was taken at the TTC just to the left of the resort Monorail entrance. I actually had DS and DD sit in the same location this past trip and I took a picture. I believe there is a coffee stand located just a little to the left of this location now.

The TTC?! No. I am 97% sure this is the huge shop in Communicore East, now replaced with Innoventions exhibits. That is certainly an EPCOT uniform on the CM. It could be the shop from Communicore West, where MouseGear is now, but I don't remember the area outside that shop being bright like the area around Imagination, as seen here.

Those pictures are both from the Centorium, which was the shop prior to Mouse Gear. It had an elevated walkway that ran along the back edge, with floor to ceiling windows, and benches to rest, and you went down steps to get into the shop.

Another favorite from the World of Motion, the Lean Machine! I doubt I ever rode WoM without watching the Lean Machine video at least three times. Alas, that area was quite dark and I never got a decent shot of the real thing, so the brochure will have to do...

What I noted as a little odd was that there were no people walking down the center of main street like they do now. Is that because of the crowd level now, or is it just that people now don't care about right of way? :confused3

Okay, I should be writing another post for my pre-trip report or getting things ready for our trip to WDW in 6 days. But no, I found this thread and I was hooked. And since we just got a new scanner, I had to go looking for pictures. I have some from 1987 and some from 1997. I'm going to just do the 1987 ones right now. The pictures are from my first trip to WDW for Spring Break my freshman year in college.
Here I am with my friends. I'm the one with the pink shorts on second from the left. This is at Epcot, and I saw another picture similar to this. I guess it was a good picture taking area.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo336/clapooh/EpcotWaterfall.jpg
Here I am along with my friend, who became my roommate the next year, kissing one of my favorite people, Robin Hood. Of course maybe we should have kissed him on the cheek instead, so that you could see him in the picture.
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo336/clapooh/RobinHood.jpg
And here is a picture of one of my friends getting a blessing from Friar Tuck.

Here is a cool picture, of Mexico.

I think I saw a similar picture to this, but thought I would include my version also. From Epcot.

Here is a cool picture of Spaceship Earth at night. You know I've actually lost contact with most of the people I went on this trip with, so maybe some of them will be dissers and will contact me.

I recently found some pictures of a visit to Disney World from August 1982. My grandmother lived in Orlando and my sister and I were visiting her and for our birthdays -both in August - she took us to Disney World for the day. Back then it was just the Magic Kingdom but Epcot was going to open in October so we got to take the monorail over to see a little preview of Epcot. When I first looked at the pictures I couldn't understand why I only had pictures of the entrance to Epcot then it dawned on me why.

If you look closely, you can see construction going on with what I think is Morroco - or maybe that is Japan.

They sell something similar to the old balloons now. They last a lot longer than just a regular balloon and aren't as prone to pop but do cost about $10. (But I still love the old balloons.) :sad1:
I got this last December which is why is has snowflakes on it.

I grew up in Florida so every school trip, church youth group trip and weekend trip was there. (WOO HOO!! :cool1: ) Went many many times and loved it!! Anyway, I dug up a couple of pictures.
This one is from 1976 - as you can see by the huge flower eagle 1776-1976 layout.

And, as someone else previously mentioned, back then, the characters just "showed up" out of nowhere and walked around. There were no scheduled spots to see them. Here was a chance encounter with the "first couple" - ha!

From 1978. These are pictures from Mickey's 50th anniversary parade. its fun to see how the characters looked back then! I will also post so non character pictures later on.
This picture came out weird, its like a combination of 2 pictures. My sister was in love with Grumpy and sort of went to see him during the parade!!!

Could someone poss help me with posting a pic, or lead me to a sticky that will help me lear to post pics as I have some I would love to share. Thanks
First, you can upload your pictures to a photo-sharing website like Photobucket. Then, once you upload the pictures, look for the code, and copy that into a post here on the DIS. :thumbsup2 Please ask if you have any questions!

I will have to look but a lot of the pictures from that time were left with him and any ones that I took with me, I only kept the ones that had just me or were of things.

I'm glad you asked about this pic.... I was wondering the same thing. The buildings off in the far background, are those Frontierland? Like Pecos Bill area?
I LOVE these old park photos!! Seening what it looked like before and today.

Yes this is a picture from up on the hill in the que looking down and to the right towards Frontierland. This picture was taken in 1986 or 1987 I can't figure out which but Splash Mountain will not but built until 1992. So that's why it's not in the photo. :)

I remember that "pink thing" very well! It was our first visit to WDW in March 1997 and we were so disappointed not to see the castle (or how it looks without all the icing). We had a fabulous 10 days there tho so can't complain ;)

I'm most dissapointed about this. Horizons was my favorite but neither my dad or I, later when I started taking pictures has any of Horizons. I was lucky and surprized that I had pictures of World of Motion and Communicore. But yes sadly no Horizons. :(
OH yes I had fond memories of the Living Seas. I used to like to watch that show with the Greek god Atlas about plate techtonics. And the robot Jason. Those were great. Actualy the last time I got to see those was 2003.

Here are a few - I need help with some....March 1974...
Is this Main Street?? My mom has it labeled "Marketplace" in the album...
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o228/TaraDPA/Old%20DIsney%20pics/FL74b0001.jpg
This is labeled "Omnibus" - anyone remember this? It looks like there are people riding in it...

Um....all I can say is that I'm SO GLAD I'm not in these pictures!! Yes that's really my dad with the groovy glasses, and my brother with his plaid bell bottoms - and what the heck is around their necks - old Kodak cameras?? Binoculars?????
This was outside of the Train Station according to the writing...doesn't look familiar to me - is it Frontierland??
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o228/TaraDPA/Old%20DIsney%20pics/FL74c0001.jpg

Just by a quick glance, looks like it is Main Street, but one of the "side areas" off Main Street. The "omnibus" is the double-decker bus that strolled from the front of the park to the castle. The building behind the bus looks like one of the refreshment / snack stands in front of the castle.
That would be the Frontier Land train depot. The reason it looks different from now is because that train stop was moved to accomodiate for Splash Mountain.
