Yes, I think it is.

Have a few pics myself of "extra" children in our Disney vacation photos. I like the set up now of waiting to see the characters versus walking up willy nilly. I am sure there are positives and negatives to both. But there were many times that adults would cut right in front of me as a kid!:rotfl2:

Yes, it was before the celebration took place. I think we were there in late August/Early September that year.

I haven't had a chance to go through all of the pages yet, but I'm loving seeing all of the old WDW pics! This is the only one I have in my posession right now...I'll have to raid Mom's albums for more. This is my sister and I (I am the younger one) in 1976, in front of Dumbo.

All the slides are from WDW. I did notice that some of the scenes in Pirates have changed over the years. Like the pirates used to chase the women around and now, the women chase the pirates

Also, if I am correct, in my slide with the wench for a bride, there's no "larger wench" whereas today, you can see her right next to the red head.

The PotC pictures are clearly taken from Disneyland's PotC.

I found a picture of our second trip to Disney December 1972. I was three and my brother was 6 in this picture. My Dad didn't take a lot of pictures of us kids, so we don't have many with us actually in them! Apparently, the sun was in our eyes! My brother is wearing an Evil Kenievel jacket! Cool!!! And, I have a very unfortunate haircut!

For WDW's 25th anniversary (1996), the Cinderella Castle was decorated like a birthday cake. A LOT of weddings were cancelled because many couples didn't want to get married in front of a pink cake castle. In early 1998, the castle was transformed back into its original state.

Going through scanning today...here's numero uno from my 1st trip in 1980. Note that the shoreline at Disney Village (now Marketplace) has changed...slightly. Do the characters still come out in front of the castle (other than shows)? RIP poor 20,000 Leagues.

1984, Contemporary Tower-check out the bed spread.
View of Bay Lake and swimming in it again-now outlawed. I spent hours just watching the monorails go through at night. Check out the map on the wall in the room and the old school TV.

From 1983.
Character breakfast on the riverboat at Disney Village, canoeing at Fort Wilderness, I'm guessing these cabin/trailers at Fort Wilderness are no more, swimming in Bay Lake-which is now outlawed due to fungus in the water...I survived fortunately. Chip & Dale campfire movie at the end.

Another set of my 1979 photos: Spring Break, 1979!

View from Riverboat: If you look closely, you can see the construction of Big Thunder Mtn. RR in the background. Everything in the front has changed alot since this photo!

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e240/mallonek/WDW%2079/Untitled-3ed2.jpg

That's a great photo. Makes me contemplate my 2005 pictures of EE and if they will be looked at the same way in say 20 years.

My first trip to WDW was in 1990 and we only went to EPCOT for the day. As I go through my photo album, I see that it cost $27.16 a ticket and that oddly enough, I didn't take very many pictures. What was wrong with me?? :confused3

:lmao: That could be part of it. How much easier things are today! But I'm afraid I can't blame that for all of it; I have well over 20 pictures of Cypress Gardens.

I blame it on having Disneyland right down the freeway and going there at least four times a year. (Then; now I'm an AP and go about 20 a year!)

Let's see some of the older pictures people have of Disney World. I would love to see some pics of 20,000 league's under the sea, or the special cable ride from tomorrowland to fantasyland. I totally forgot the name of it.. I just miss the old disney, I love the new disney but growing up spending time with my dad and brother and just being a kid.. Oh I miss that so much..:sad1:

Here are a couple fuzzy ones from 1971. I was 3 and one of my earliest memories is from this trip. I had a stuffed Pluto doll and Goofy came over and took the doll (in an attempt to be funny and cute, he put "baby Pluto" over his shoulder as if he was burping a baby). This was absolutely horrifying to then-three-year-old me.

There are better pics in my mom's photo albums. I got stuck with the dregs for now. Maybe I can get her to let me have the pics to scan in soon.

I sure wish Gus still made appearances! :goodvibes

Also, WDW first opened to the public on October 1, 1971. I believe it's unlikely (but not impossible) that this photo was taken before then.

It was not only pink, but covered in "candy" to look like a birthday cake for WDW's 25th Anniversary celebration in 1996. Sorry! The photo is quite old, no date on the back, and I based my timing on my age in the pictures. I know the park was very newly open when my parents took me there. We drove up from Miami. So perhaps I should amend the post to say "sometime during 1971, after the Magic Kingdom opened."

Are you sure the buildings haven't changed size? Really? :rolleyes1

I liked the cake too! I understand the need to cancel wedding photos, but otherwise, I thought it was a hoot. :) I should also say that I like the color pink.

I am really glad that on one of my last trips as a kid I got to ride the skyway. It freaked me out (I was afraid the line would break and we would fall to our doom); however, I can now proudly say that I rode that and now you can't ride it at WDW. I also have a similar story for 20000 Leagues under the Sea. Hey, I also have a similar story for the original scary Snow White's Adventures (before it was called Scary, thank you very much). Wow, I am now realizing that a whole lot of closed attractions used to scare the bejesus out of me! :scared1:

Yes, it's still there, but it's covered with grass and weeds, and a lot of it is in the water. Since Discovery Island is closed now, no one can get to it anyway. If I can find a picture, I'll post it!

Does anyone rembmer the lin que for Dinosaur being outside. It's been years since i rode it. Maybe a year after AK opened and I think Dinosaur was farily new. I rode it this past Mar. and was amazed that we waited indoors. I swear it was outside before. My assumption is that the buidings hadn't all been built yet back then???

I don't know what is more sad. Seeing this, or panning over on your link to see how run down river country is now. I know I've seen some pictures someone took from inside RC somtime reciently, and it looked like a old western ghost town.

There are some awesome pics on this thread. One thing that really stands out to me is the lack of little ones in the 70's pics. That and the lack of strollers.
I remember 20,000 and the skyway. Those were great classic rides.
Those saucers in that one photo look way dangerous wow!
I remember Discovery Island. When we visited in the late 80's they were training monkeys there to help with wheelchair bound children.

I remember my grandmother emphatically stating to me when I was young, "Not until your 6." I think it was a different mentality back then. Now there are travel systems from birth through early elementary, educational programs for the under 6 set, and more and more parents take their very young children on vacation with greater frequency. I think I was the first generation in my family to have a car seat! Back then if you were really young someone held you or you laid in the seat. My DH's mom had pumpkin seats for the floorboard for him, but that was about it in the way of car safety! :)

I remember fighting with my sister over who had to lay over the hot hump in the back. Anyone else remember doing that?
I look at my kids sleeping in their seats now and think how uncomfortable they must be. The freedom to lay down in the seat. Of course I too remember the 70's and sleeping in the area under the back window. :scared1:
Cars back then were made of steel and not fiberglass though.

Oh the memories of the "hot hump". :rotfl: And that was when cars had vinyl seats and air conditioning wasn't standard so you had to ride with all the windows in the car down just to get any air. I can't believe that we didn't wear seat belts either - back then if you wore a seat belt you were just crazy. If there weren't car inspection requirements most people would have cut the darn things out. (Of course I remember when gas was 23 cents a gallon. ) :rotfl2:

We rented a pontoon from FW about a year ago and went by Discovery Island. It looked so run down & to think only a decade ago it was an animal park! Sure went downhill fast! That same trip my DH walked a little ways into the old RC too. It was full of squirrels, huge walking birds, and other woodland creatures. The vines were taking it over. It looks like it was abandoned one night and never looked back on. So sad to see.

I for one wish they'd invest some money and do something with both places. (And while they're at it...fininsh up Pop's other building!)

Thanks for the map shots! :)

These are from 1994. We were only there for 1 day so I don't really count it as my "first" trip. Honestly, I remember pretty much nothing about it. It was during spring break so I'm thinking it was probably packed. I went along to help entertain my 5 year old cousin. I'm sure I was more concerned with what my friends were doing at home! :sad2: We spent more time at Universal then Disney. My aunt and uncle (who took me) were big Universal fans even back then. They are still not Disney fans. Go figure. :scared1:

Okay! I have got some great Disney family photos - though I am not sure if they were taken in DL or DW. We would alternate each year.
Sorry they are so big!

My dad, sister and myself - I am the baby - This was in 79

Before the MVMCP's the only extra Christmas item was a dinner show held at the Contemporary's Conference Center.

It came with a photo op like this.

My family and I went to this when I was around 12 years old! :rotfl: I remember it very well! We thought it was awful and most of the entertainment was them just putting video of the guests on a screen. It was over-priced and I remember being picked up by a large bus to be taken to the event. Oh, what lovely Disney memories!

I used to a little bit in 1998 but my horse developed ringbone and that put an end to it. I bought another horse in 2003 (who I just had to sell :sad2: ) but he hated jumping so we dabbled in Western. Do you ride/event?? If you event I give you credit..I am MUCH too wimpy to do it now....I used to ride jumpers when I was a teen and even a small jump now makes me nervous!!! :rotfl:

Would love to see some old pictures of what Dopey looked like back in 1974. He is my favorite Character. My first visit was in 1974 and have been going back for years. I was hooked on Disney and still am. This thread is a great find. I have enjoyed every page and picture. as I have alot of my own, it would take forever to scan them. I am amazed at the camera quality. back when we had 110 camera's and them Disk Camera's. WE have come a long way with digital camera's.
Thanks for sharing some old memories.

At first I thought it was fort wilderness...didn't they used to have a petting zoo? (do they still??)...but now I think it was discovery island. There were all sorts of trails leading thru the island that had these "petting corrals" along them...from what I remember anyway.

Ok, and this one was somewhere backstage. The guy in the middle is my great uncle. He used to play fiddle in Frontierland. Just a little brag, but Charlie Daniels credits him with inspiring him to play fiddle. Had a discussion with him once and told him who I was related to and he went on and on about how he used to stay up late at night listening to my uncle and his band on the radio every week. The other two are my grandparents.

I started going to WDW when I was just a few months old. We went at least every year. At least. By the time I was in kindergarten, mom was planning the next trip and I uttered a phrase that has haunted me the rest of my life. "Mommy, do we HAVE to go back to Disney World?" I'll tell you this though, I've never said it since!!

I never took it for granted though. I knew I was extremely fortunate. Very few friends ever got to go. I used to love taking friends with us so I could introduce them to my "second home."

But I think growing up with regular visits really impacted me. It's so hard to explain. It makes sense in my head but it's very hard to put it into words. There is something different about WDW. I can go to other theme or amusement parks and have fun, but I never feel like I do at WDW. It truly feels like going home. So much of my childhood is benchmarked there. I can walk down Main Street and (unfortunately only in my mind's eye) vividly remember the picture we had to take in front of the flower carts every single trip. I remember my grandpap dragging us into Hall of Presidents every day we were in the MK so he could take a catnap in the back row. I remember riding Dumbo with grandma for the last ride of the night. I remember finally working up the courage to ride Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion, the latter I distinctly remember listening my way through because my hands were firmly glued to my eyes except a quick peek through fingers to see the ghost hitching a ride with us.

Even as the parks have grown, I feel like they've grown with me or me with them. As attractions were added or replaced, I can remember where I was in my life when they were new.

To a lot of people, it's corny and silly. But to me, and probably many people here, it makes sense. All I know is that I can't wait to have kids of my own and start all over.

I totally get it. When I tell my friends or family that I am going to either Disneyland or Walt Disney World the reply is always the same, "Again?" Like I am suppose to get tired of it? I really do believe there are two types of people; people like us who get what you are saying without having to articulate it and the rest of the world. I'll admit I do get tired of the crowds, but I have been spoiled. I first started going to DL and WDW in the early 90's when park attendance was at an all time low; then ten minutes seemed like a long wait for anything! Despite the ever growing crowds, something happens when I walk through the main gates of DL or MK. Its an overwhelming feeling of wonderment, awe, happiness, content, you really do leave the "real" world behind. It's what keeps us going back.

As for kids...I brought my son for the first time for his 4th birthday in 1994 and seeing the disbelief on his face, the smiles, the excitement, the joy I will never forget that. Since that time we have gone to one of the parks every year for his birthday. Last December we celebrated his 16th birthday in WDW. It was a very poignant moment for me. I have watched him grow up as a "Disney" kid.

Now I look forward to when I can take his kids (someday) to a Disney Park.

I'm hoping some of you reminiscers can help me out here. We came across these pics when we found the others. I know they're not Disney, so bear with me, hehe. I'm pretty sure they're all from Sea World (due to the ship and the stands) but the thing I'm standing on out front stumped us - we can't figure out what that is. Anyone remember Sea World looking like this in the early 80's?

From looking at picture number 3, I would say it's SeaWorld. I haven't ever been to the FL one that I know of, but we used to go to the OH all the time, and that is exactly how the stands looked for the shows.

If it was taken in the late 80s, early 90s, EVERYONE had a perm. hehe.

I also have a picture with Alice from 1988 and she had real hair instead of a wig. You could tell she did her hair with a curling iron since she had very light waves in them. By the way, the full name of Grandma Duck is actually Elvira "Grandma Duck" Coot , but she is always referred to as Grandma Duck. I saw her once in a TV Walt Disney Easter parade in the early nineties. She was walking along with Gladstone Gander. I totally wish these characters would be available for meet&greet:lovestruc

Well I know that,( always had a perm too ;) ) but if they are supposed to be in character, shouldn't they look like the character? LOL! I like the way Alice looks now. I think t hey got muchbetter with the costumes over the years.
