Well, it took me all morning and most of the afternoon, but I started and now (sadly) have come to the end of this GREAT thread! Thanks everyone for the memories today! I have laughed and cried to your photos and comments!

My first visit to MK was in 1975 when I was 2, and I have such wonderful memories of my most favorite place with my family. Both of my parents have passed away (this will be the first Mother's Day without my mom), but this thread has warmed my heart and soul by bringing me right back to my childhood and being with them at Disney.

I cannot wait to dig through my old photos this weekend!! Keep posting everyone!!

Looking to Imagination (remember that playground they had on the second floor? LOVED IT!)

One of the activities in the Imagination pavillion was "lucky participants" (such as my sister and cousin, far left) acting on a blue screen

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a25/angey77/ImaginationShow2.jpg

They were giants and on-screen, they looked like this as they terrorized some Medieval guys.

My dad didn't work for GM, but who knows if the people with us did. If you look at the pic of us at TTA, there are a bunch of other girls with us. My parents met their parents at a rest station on the way to WDW. Didn't know them from Adam, but we spent our entire vacation with them!

OMG, that's so funny! :rotfl:

The one of my brother trying to remove Tigger's head is from 88, and Tigger didn't even attack (the mess in the news a weeks ago).
The other is MGM: note my hand on Jessica and my girlfriend's (now wife's) expression...

The area where Buzz Lightyear is now has gone through many changes over the years....I believe this is how the timeline went....(correct me if I am wrong someone)

If you Had Wings (1972-1987)
Ifyou Could Fly (1987-1989)
Dreamflight?
Take Flight (1989-1998)
Buzz Lightyear (1998)

I remember, the If you could fly, that was the one sponsored by eastern, wasn't it?? I loved that. . .

I just LOVE looking at all these old pictures! I need to stop trying to find myself in them though!

My Dad got out some of our old slides last night, and there were some Disney pictures from way back when. Someone posted some pictures of slides on here that turned out really well, but I am having trouble finding the post as to how he did it.

Thanks for the kind words. I shot Kodachrome and Ektachrome slides almost exclusively, since I got my first camera at 12 years old (I'm 52 now...). My brother and I made three trips to MK in the 1974-1975 time frame (MK *was* WDW in those days) and I'm finally getting around to making digital copies of them. Believe it or not, these were *not* digitized via a transparency scanner. Instead, I projected them onto a 20" X 30" piece of FoamCore, and photographed the projected image with my Nikon D50. The results exceeded my expectations and I judge them to be as good, if not better, than what I could do with my (older) flatbed scanner, and MUCH MUCH faster!

Those posted here are just a few of the slides from that time period. A good many of the others are Instamatic 110 format, and the film is T-I-N-Y. I'll give those a shot this weekend and see what I can come up with.

I have dozens of Carousels of slides from vacations here, there, and yon, from about the early 80's, and I hope to use this little shortcut to convert them all to digital.

~YEKCIM

Yeah! I found the post! I just read how you did it to my son, so I'll get him on the job of taking the pictures of slides!

I found a few:

This is my dh (dbf then though!) on his first ever trip to Disney World in December of 1986 at the ripe old age of 26! How can someone go through life that long without going to Disney???

I like these last pictures, because they were taken May 7, 1997, one year to the day before our beautiful daughter, Arminda was born:

Painting the water tower. I believe they were repainting it white, after having had spots on it to commemorate the opening of the 101 Dalmations live action movie.

Okay, you guys have inspired me to finally scan some more in. All these pics are from our trips in either 1978 or 1979. First, a collection of Space Mountain, the old cable cars, and the speedway:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/marciemi/7879trips/Carsskyride.jpg

Next, a picture of Big Thunder Mountain while still under construction:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/marciemi/7879trips/buildingthunder.jpg

The old 20,000 Leagues under the Sea submarines:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/marciemi/7879trips/20kleagues.jpg

My little brother in front of the Empress Lily. Notice the badge he's wearing - this was during the time that most people used the A-E tickets, but with the badge you could go on everything!

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/marciemi/7879trips/joebadge.jpg

My little brother again, with I don't know who (I'm sure one of you can tell me!):

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/marciemi/7879trips/joeand.jpg

The old Penny Arcade:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/marciemi/7879trips/arcade.jpg

I don't know what ride this is from - my guess would be Jungle Cruise or Tom Sawyer - anyone?

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/marciemi/7879trips/indians.jpg

I still have a bunch more, but these should give you guys a few to look at!

I just spent all night reading this thread....thank you all for posting these pictures. I also lost my mom a few years back and long for the "good old days" of the 70's/80's. I teared up a few times while reading. We went in 1985 and at the time my dad was a photographer so he developed all the pictures into slides himself. I know he still has them but finding them will be a challenge..they may not be labeled! :scared1: I am now inspired to do so..thanks again! :goodvibes

The rainbow hallway is no longer there and neither is the access to get upstairs. Ah, the days when Imagination was really a blast! Anyone remember the activities they had upstairs? I'm remembering a huge pin-impression thingy. You know those things you push your hand in and it leaves the shape? There was a giant one up there!

Gosh, I really do miss the old imagination building. We rode Figment this past time and my daughter enjoyed it, but I know she would have LOVED the old ride.

We've been going since I was a tiny thing, I think we started back in 86, but I have no idea where are photos are. I am going to have to find some of them.

I remember my pass from back then. We had a seasonal Florida resident pass, and it was a hard pass, not the flimsy ticket they give you now. It had my picture on it too. I carried that thing in my wallet for years, my friends all thought I was nuts.

My friends and I found some really old Disney stuff, we all sat around one night and looked at it ... that's when I found out about Discovery Island. I wish they would do something with that.

Does anyone know if Goofy still water skis on the lagoon?

I also have some photos of the girls at Universal...It was Before IOA. We walked into some sort of area where they were promoting the idea and I took photos of the girls....I know it's not the spot, but it's the beginning of IOA!

I spent an HOUR at my dad's today trying to find the slides from our WDW in 1985. No luck. I found slides from everything else ranging from 1976-1988. Just no WDW ones. I found one of the hotel we stayed in but that was it. It was very discouraging. I had a stressful weekend and I really wanted those slides to cheer me up. My dad says they are around somewhere. Hopefully I can post soon!!

I did find 5 from 1972 (I have NO idea who took this trip..it was before I was born!!) But they weren't anything that hasn't been posted already.

I recently found some pics from my first trip to WDW, in April of 1984. My mom didn't take many pictures but I figured I could share a few. None of them are very good...but you can tell they are dated...LOL

(I already posted these on a thread for vintage resort pics, and someone there suggested I post them here, as well!!)

I was reading some vintage photos thread on one of these boards yesterday and someone had posted an old park hopper - so I got out all of mine that I could find - thought everyone would love to see the old ones.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/dturnerpgmipl/Passes.jpg

The first one is from 1981 (3 days in the magic kingdom for $27.75 - what a bargain!!); then the next one looks like 1984 ($65.50 for a 5 day park hopper -Magic Kingdom and Epcot)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/dturnerpgmipl/Passes2.jpg

1984 Park Hopper for 4-days, two parks for $48.00;
1989 Park Hopper for 4-days, three parks for $97.00 (grand opening of MGM)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/dturnerpgmipl/Passes3.jpg

1990 Park Hopper for 5-days including Pleasure Island for $130.00;
1990 Park Hopper for 4-days for $99.00 (Magic Kindom Club - I miss the Magic Kingdom Club)
1990 Park Hopper for 6-days - no price on it.

I also found some old napkins that I had kept.

I finally made it to my parents house and scanned a few!

These are all from Easter week 1986..I was 10 years old!

Gotta love the short Mickey shirt my brother was wearing!

I seriously choked on my diet coke looking at these pictures! I absolutely LOVE the shorty shirt your brother was wearing!:thumbsup2 How totally 80's of him! Loved it.

And you were with Dale in the Chipmunk Picture! I remember who's who b/c Chip's nose looks like a chocolate chip and Dale's nose is red b/c Dale drinks! ;):rotfl2: What he drinks is a mystery...fermented Acorn sap was my dad's forever guess!

I always tell Chip & Dale apart because Dale has two teeth & Chip has only one. I like your version better though. :thumbsup2

It you say that to Chip he will become quite unhappy. He has two teeth, they are just together unlike Dale who has a gap between his. :thumbsup2

NO WAAAY! I so thought I read that COP was finally closed for good! Thats great news! Looks like I will be visiting COP once again next month =)

I just returned yesterday from WDW..... the COP is still up and running. My kids (9 & 5) both really enjoyed it and were totally intrigued with the whole rotating theater idea. COP has always been one of my favorites! :thumbsup2

Here's mine for today..........I think these boats are gone now.

Thank you so much Disneygrl36!! For the longest time, I have had this vague memory of being on the upstairs part of a boat with tons of other people when my baby sister threw her bottle down the stairs and some guy picked it up and handed it to my mom. It is the only thing I remember, but I couldn't remember where it was, until I saw your picture!!! (page 19) The boat is exactly the way I saw it in my head and as soon as I saw the staircase, I knew for sure.

Thanks!! Now I know that memory was from my first ever Disney trip...I was 4 :)

Subscribing! Some pictures I can see, but others are blocked at work :(

I have pictures from 85, 90 and 93 at home that I would love to scan. Gotta ask DH if he can do it at work for me (don't have a scanner at home, go figure :confused3 ).

I do have a picture of the Rainbow tunnel that was upstairs in Journey Into your Imagination. <sigh> How I miss the old decor. Can't stand the new "industrial" look  and I miss Dreamfinder!

Woo hoo, here's some more 80s magic...

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k278/dmk1021/Fountain.jpg

This is my first trip to WDW in 1986. Here's the whole family in front of the fountain at Epcot.

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k278/dmk1021/SpaceMickey.jpg
Here we are gallivanting with celebrities later at Epcot (PS, I'm the little girl with the twin brother...will come in handy later for awkward photo).

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k278/dmk1021/Pirates.jpg
Arr, we were pirates before it was fashionable pirate:

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k278/dmk1021/1990.jpg
And here I am with my twin brother (and two cousins) just four short years later. We are, of course, in front of Liberty Tree Tavern. Feel free to notice how, at the tender age of 10, I was beginning to enter my "awkward" years (i.e., my ponytail looks like my entire scalp is being pulled back).

I recently scanned these in after looking for photos to put together for my mom's 50th. I have the rest of the 86 trip waiting to be scanned, but I have yet to dig up the rest of the 1990 trip. I love seeing these old pictures...these trips were the foundation for my love of Disney today. And knowing that my parents scrimped and saved and worked really hard to take us there makes it even more meaningful:love:

1984 Park Hopper for 4-days, two parks for $48.00;
1989 Park Hopper for 4-days, three parks for $97.00 (grand opening of MGM)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/dturnerpgmipl/Passes3.jpg

1990 Park Hopper for 5-days including Pleasure Island for $130.00;
1990 Park Hopper for 4-days for $99.00 (Magic Kindom Club - I miss the Magic Kingdom Club)
1990 Park Hopper for 6-days - no price on it.

I also found some old napkins that I had kept.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/dturnerpgmipl/Napkin.jpg

Mickey's 60th Birthday

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/dturnerpgmipl/Napkin2.jpg

Does anyone know if the napkins still look like this at the CBR???

I have no idea if the napkins are still there, but I have one in my memory box! I figured I was the only one who still had one of those. :) It was our first trip back in 1993 and I saved everything. EVERYTHING. Even the puke bag from my first plane ride. :)

Oh well.

I love that last photo of you and your family dressed as pirates. I wish WDW still did those. In 1985 we had the picture done with the caboose and dressed in 1800 style clothing. I would have loved to have that done now with my DH and our DS (who'se almost 5).

In looking at all the older pics of the parks I am always amazed at the lack of strollers. Nowadays the parks are choked off with parents pushing their kids in strollers. Back in the 70s and 80s we walked our little legs off.

Isn't that the truth?

Now, in a perfect example of cruel irony, our "little legs" get nipped off by the ginormous strollers ;)

It looks like a stage of some kind. There appears to be speakers part way up the tower but I can't figure out what the cables going off in all directions from the tower are for.

Here are some photos from my collection. I know I have more somewhere I just have to look for them, including Main Street Electrical Parade circa 1978/79/80. Also some 1986 and 1988 and some from the 90's too.

This is a shot of me proudly displaying my mouse ears while eating a delicious breakfast from a very 1970's looking kiddie table, the photo on the right is from my first (I think) WDW visit. I am the one on the far right in the light blue mickey shirt and jeans. This photo was taken in 1976 when I was two years old.

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s183/nenner1/babyjendisney.jpg

These next pictures are all from the same visit sometime in 1976/1977, when I was about two or three.

Waiting to see Minnie in Fantasyland, back in the days when everyone just clustered around the characters. That's me far left sucking my fingers :rotfl: in yellow and brown:

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s183/nenner1/minnie.jpg

Not sure about this kiss Goofy laid on me! Check out the camera in the hand of the lady in the background!

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s183/nenner1/goofy.jpg

I'm not sure where this was taken, Jungle Cruise maybe? (Sorry, the pic is in poor condition)

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s183/nenner1/gorilla.jpg

The next group was taken in July 1977, at age three. Notice I'm still wearing the same Mickey Mouse shirt as in the first photo!

Mommy and Me on Cinderella's carousel:

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s183/nenner1/jul7733.jpg

Back on the Carousel, this time at night:

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s183/nenner1/jul771.jpg

Mom's favorite, the Country Bears (still sucking fingers! Ha!) (Tidbit: for theose DCL'ers who have been on the Western, those sandals on my feet are the kids' Kino sandals from Key West that are so often talked about. They are still *exactly* the same today!)

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s183/nenner1/jul7722.jpg

This next one is from 1978, on the Carousel again (where is that foliage behind us??) Unfortunatley (or maybe fortunately if you are a guy) those terrycloth shorts jumpsuits (worn without a bra) were all the rage back in the day! LOL!:lmao:

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s183/nenner1/1978.jpg

And a few things my mom said, she and my dad visited WDW around it's opening in 1971. (She also has a horror story about visiting DL shortly after it's opening in 1955 @ age 4, and Dumbo wasn't open yet!!! She still talks about how dissapointed she was!) But anyway, back to WDW...she says the day they went they had to wait in the traffic jam on the highway for hours, that the waits inside the park were so ridicluous that they only got to go on a couple of rides the whole day. She said the line for 20.000 leagues was four, yes FOUR hours long, that they had to take turns, one would hold the line and the other would go to the bathroom and get drinks then they would switch out!:sad2:

Enjoy the photos! There are more to come!:cutie:

Thanks for the photos of the 20,000 Leagues ride. I did not get to go on as a child (I fainted in the line...it was HOT that day) and when I got to go back in 2005, it was gone. I wish they would have reopened it.

There are rumors that with the recent reactivation of the subs at DL that they are thinking of bringing back WDW subs but I think I'll believe it when I see it.

Gosh, I really hope that is the case....I think I read somewhere that the buried the old Nautilus subs And of course they have filled in the lagoon to make the Pooh's corner play area, so they would have to start over from scratch. It would be wonderful but I don't think they will do it, it would be a lot of work and a lot more $$$. It seems to me that Disney is almost beginning to emphasize the differences between DL and WDW in order to get more people to attend both. Living so close to WDW, we never considered planning a trip to DL in the past.....but now, with so many different attractions and differences in the rides, we are considering planning a DL trip....

It did - but there are lots of rumors flying around that this was only temporary until they came up with a final idea of what to do with the area. Another rumor for the area is that it is going to be a Little Mermaid themed area. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

t seems to me that Disney is almost beginning to emphasize the differences between DL and WDW in order to get more people to attend both.

Actually, IMO, it's quite the opposite. See the "Disney Parks" merchandise and advertising which pervaded all US Disney theme parks at the beginning of the YoaMD "celebration." Thankfully, this is/has been slowly removed from the parks.

There are definitely different attractions, but for the most part, in recent years attractions added have not been so unique, particularly at DCA, where a lot of the new attractions have gone (simply not a lot of room for expansion at DL park). ToT, ITTBAB, Turtle Talk with Crush, Playhouse Disney, Muppetvision...DCA is filled with many WDW clones. DL park is where you'll find many of the classic originals that are missing from MK such as Storybookland, Alice, Pinocchio, Mr. Toad...and rides that are way plussed compared to MK (HM, PoTC).

It is absolutely worth visiting DL if you're "used to" WDW. I visited twice last year alone (not easy for an East Coast-er). We'll see how the differentiation between the parks goes with Disney management in the coming months and years, though. This past year was rough with the "Disney Parks" thing, but it seems they may have learned the err of their ways.

You're definitely right about the merchandising, YOaMD, and DCA...I didn't think about it in that perspective. I do think (hope!) maybe they have realized that different is good!! I am excited to get over to DL and check it out!!

They weren't buried. I saw a picture and a thread, (it might of been on DIS boards) that they are laying out back behind one of the theme parks. The ysiad that sometimes cast members climb around on them. (I don'tthinl they are supposed to though). I can't remember where I saw this, but it wasn't too long ago.

I never got to ride 20,000 Leagues either =( The line was always sooo long. Thinking back, it does seem that it might have been a little out of place in Fantasyland...I wonder why they chose that location.

The new Nemo ride at DL looks great. But now that they have filled in that area in WDW, I doubt they have plans to refill it.

I think the outfit that the CM is wearing in the Space Mountain picture above is hilarious!

do you remember when all the CM had to wear outfits that fit into the theme of the ride??
Like in Fronterland all the CM dressed like they were out of a John Wayne western! :rotfl2:
And the CM of Space Mtn looked like sad versions of Star Trek outfits.:rotfl2:
They changed that in the late 90's I think.

Do you think he should pull his pants up a little higher???
I think it's a one piece jump suit! Not pants. :rotfl2:

It was Little Mermaid for a couple of years, 1998, 99 and 00. You could meet Little Mermaid and then there was the water things that shot up out of the ground when you stood on them (I think they are still there.).

In 1997 it was just a character greeting area, they also use it for that during most special times MNSSHP and MVMCP.

Here is a couple of pictures from 1998 of me and my DS2 (now 10) in that area when it was Little Mermaid meet and play area.

OK, so I kept trying to post pics here and it kept giving me an error...
so then I tried it by just putting a "link" rather than doing the picture option... same error...
Then I took all the "img" or "url" thingies out so it just had the "text" version of the link... and it must know it's a link and put it back in and returned to the same error.
I have a bunch of pics I wanted to share with you guys, but it won't even let me put a link to my album... what the heck???

In any case, maybe someone can help - this is the error I keep getting:

I LOVE this thread, it totally is everything I remember about my first trip to Disney in 1984. Below I'll post a few pics that I could find, I know there are many more around (like with Figmint - he was my favorite then - I was about 4 or 5 then) and I had a Figgy toy I played with in the car all the way back to IL and by the time we got home his neck lost all its stuffing from playing too much! LOL - so his head hung by his belly! LMAO!! :lmao: I also know there's a pic of me someplace where in Epcot with those little spurts of water that jump from spot to spot, I was looking down into one literally seconds before it spattered all over my head! LMAO!! Can't find either of those though - makes me sad. Is it true Figment's area has changed - is he still there at least??

Well here I go with some pics. I'll post my later trips in the 90's in a day or two, but these were "retro" and couldn't help but post them first. I (again) was only about 5 here (maybe 4-1/2) - so I'm the little tyke. My mom was taking all the photos, so she never ended up IN any of them... No Photopass? I dunno, I was too young to care. My two sisters and my dad are the others in the pics with me. Here it goes...

YAY for flying elephants! Hey! I think my mom is in the elephant with me, she DID make it in a shot! That's us in the green one! I think I see one of the SkyWay tower standy-things there with the lines. Were those working in 84? I honestly don't recall seeing them in action! I don't see any of the transport cars up there, and I would think if it was going you'd see 'em at least someplace in that pic.

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r303/bulah1/Disney%2084/EpcotLedge.jpg

My poor sisters had to do all the kiddie rides with me... but you know what? When I go back in October - Teacups are a must, I don't care! LOL

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r303/bulah1/Disney%2084/temple.jpg
Don't really remember what ride this was, is it the jungle cruise thing? My mom took hundreds of pics of the fake animals in that, but hardly of the FAMILY on our trip to Disney! Gotta love her!

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r303/bulah1/Disney%2084/Tiki.jpg
One of my other few memories of my first trip - the Tikis... I loved them so and annoyed my family for hours later singing the merry little song! :woohoo: How much has this one changed since I was there? I know there's that Aladdin bird there now, but is the whole thing different?

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r303/bulah1/Disney%2084/wolf.jpg
This is really the last pic I have of any of "us" from the trip... seriously, my mom wasted the film on the jungle cruise, I'm not even kidding you... and I'm sure it hasn't changed THAT much for me to post the pics! :rotfl2:

Hope you've enjoyed them...
Later I will post my trips from the very early 90's with my best friend at the time and her mom. You will see me in mid-nerdness. I was a huge geek... as you can tell by my geek-in-training shots here... ;)

The Aztec-looking building is the Mexico pavilion at Epcot. Some of the others you couldn't identify look they are from Epcot as well. My guess is that the one with the mosaics in the background is at the Land. I'm not sure where the fountain is located, but I'm pretty sure that is at Epcot.

As far as the Tiki Birds it begins the same way, but then it is interrupted by Iago and Zazu. I don't really know what the old version was like, so I can't compare it, though I know that there are different songs.

You know what is funny about your statement? Myself, DH, in-laws and a friend are planning a trip for December and are using a Yahoo group to do so. This is a bit off topic...
But have you ever seen the Episode of the Brady Bunch where the go to an amusement park? Well the park they went to is Kings Island, which is in Ohio. My friends family was there when it was being taped and her brother was nosey and walke right across an area they were taping and he is in that episode. It is so funny becuase he has these plaid pants on and we all laugh at him about how he is dressed so dorky during his big moment of fame. He also looks exactly like his son does. It's like really seeing his son walk across the scene. They have it on tape and we will rewind it over and over sometimes and just keep watching it and laughing. We are such dorks!

Actually that is Mayan architecture
Steep pyramids that that only exists in Tikal (a Mayan city), however since this is the Mexican pavillion it might be representing the pyramid in Chichen Itza (the capital city of the Mayas)

I LOVE that episode!!! What part was he in? Was it when they were running the architect plans back to Mr.Brady????

I always laugh at folks laughing at old clothing, as if what a ton of folks are wearing right now are some sort of timeless perfection.

Guest what folks. In 30 years, everyone will be laughing at your hair style or what you're wearing right now. :lmao:

Yes, but in 30 years, it will be funny. It's fun to laugh at ourselves, come on! Join in!

no.... the really funny part is my teenage DD seems to be wearing what I wore 30 years ago.....:lmao: :lmao:
What we called "bell-bottoms" then are "flares" now.... oh and the "halter tops"..... I remember arguing with my mom about wearing that!
And now.... have you seen some of the prints and styles out for fall... talk about "retro' back to the early 70s!!!:lmao: Love it!!:lmao:

It's been awhile since Iwatched it, but it's at a part where they all gathered together, I think while they are looking for the plans. He is a blonde in the background and he kind of has his head down and and cocks his head to the side to look, if I remember right. We jsut laughed so much about his clothes! LOL! Now I want to watch it again! :hippie:

Thanks for all these pictures everyone!

I especially loved all the pics from the 70's and early 80's. I had a ton of pics like those, but they all were destroyed in a house fire at my Dad's house in 1996, robbing me of revisiting memories of WDW back then, as well as being able to see pics of me as a child with my Mom, who passed away in 1995, as well as some other more distant relatives who are no longer with us, who also went with us to WDW in those days.

Seeing these images brings back memories I had not recalled in 20 years or more. I am trying not to break down crying here at work. :sad1:

Someone else noted how many of the pics from the 70's showed more adults than kids, which is the opposite of what you see now.

Another thing I'm noticing from pics in those days is how differently people dressed. I'm not referring to just style, but in the amount of clothing. Notice all the women wearing skirts with fairly high heels, or long pants. Men were even more likely to wear long pants than shorts. Also notice all the long sleeve shirts! Ouch. I realize some of these may be wintertime photos, but it was warm enough for at least some people to wear shorts. The percentages of people wearing shorts these days is probably at least double the percentages from those 70's/80's pics, even in winter.

no, as far as I know it has never been anything other than the entrance to animation courtyard. Since you don't know where the hat is, the area with the sign is to the right of the Great Movie Ride. HtP

Nope. It has always been the entrance to the Animation Studios Courtyard.

I actually have a photo (which needs to be scanned) of the Disney-MGM Studios Entrance back in 1990 (I was mildly disappointed that the Studios was closing early that day for the World Premiere of "Dick Tracy"). It has since remained virtually unchanged.

I'll see if I can scan some of my old photos later this week. Could be fun...

There was a Toy Story Parade, but it didn't replace the Mulan Parade. My first MGM trip was in '96, so this is all the info I currently know about MGM parades. I know there was an Aladdin Parade sometime at MGM, but I'm not sure if there was anything in between the Aladdin and Toy Story parades. The Toy Story Parade debuted in '95, the same year as the movie was released. It was replaced by the Hercules Parade in summer '97, which was replaced by the Mulan Parade in summer '98, which was replaced by Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade in Oct. '01, which is being replaced by Block Party Bash (an all-Pixar parade) in March '08. Phew! Hope I answered your question!

I always giggled at the Al's Toy Barn commercial says in that So Droll Voice: Available at al Al's Toy Barn locations in the Tri-County Area. I grew up here, so hearing about "other" Tri areas always kinda shocked me when I was younger!

I miss the old SkyWay. I understand why it was taken down, cause the line was UNBEARBLE. But with FastPass I think they should bring it back. It was a cool view point on the parks.

I don't think the skyway was taken down that long ago. It was still there in 99.

Isn't that the truth?

Now, in a perfect example of cruel irony, our "little legs" get nipped off by the ginormous strollers ;)

BTW, that was just a joke, folks, so please don't flame me :hippie:

I have thought this many a time. My first trip to the World was when I was six and my brother was four. My dad refused to get a stroller. He made sure that we didn't go until we were able to walk. We were flat out exhausted though at the end of each day. But my dad was also one of those dad's that said "If you're thirsty, there is a water fountain right over there!"

I have a ton of old photos starting with our first trip in 1984. I need to figure out how to get them on here. It is amazing to me just how the scenery and landscaping has changed.

Hope to be posting soon!!

We saw the Doug show too, My DD was about 6 or 7 at the time and she loved it so much. She kept asking "is it almost over?", and I would say "no" and she would say " good, I love this so much, I don't want it to end! " LOL!
