4 miles for me today at a 13:10 pace! :cool1:

:welcome: Michael! Yep...there's a new thread every week...we're a pretty chatty bunch :grouphug:

Howard...good luck on your marathon!

Christa...I imagine you can do most anything you set your mind to :) Great to see you back! Please tell Bree congrats and we all said hi! :wave2:

Scott...great pace on your 5K! Congrats! I think we have our own little chapter of RA going here ;)

Amy...wtg on your 6...fab splits!

Dave...how was your race?

Eric...I'm officially nominating you for membership as a big dog :dog: That Fuerteventura place sounds pretty hardcore!

Speaking of dogs...I think we may need the dogcatcher...we're missing a bunch of folks! Craig, Claire, Cathy, Mike, Celeste, Maggie, anyone else who hasn't posted in awhile, give us a drive by and let us know how you're doing!

Krista, Steve...are ya back from WDW yet?

Tiff...when is your tri?

Carrie...don't you have a race coming up too?

Cam...how's the hip?

Judy...I'm right there with ya...I still have a hard time calling myself a runner. I run more than I walk now, but still would love to break a 10 minute mile someday.

I'm afraid I've woken up the PF again...apparently it doesn't like the TM. We're leaving for vacation next Friday and I'm torn between giving myself a week off to try to heal it and taking my stuff so I can run at WDW. We'll be staying at SSR and running through DTD early in the a.m. has a certain appeal (yep...sign me up for RA too ;) )

Have a good week everyone!

Hello everyone! Got back a while ago from my 5k Race today....ran a personal best on the hilliest course I've experienced yet, came in with a 28:55!! I was so motivated that I signed up for a 10k (first one of those for me) on Memorial Day. If I keep this up I'm gonna need to join RA (Runners Anonymous...1st step is admitting you have an addiction...lol).

Anyway, hope everyone has a great weekend!! Go WISH team!

Hello, Scott, Welcome!
(We double as an RA when necessary) :lmao:

Great job on your PR! Can't wait to hear about the 10K!

I went to the Y today for a very low-intensity wo. I think I'm ok. I did a total of 32,000 lbs on the FitLynx machines (as opposed to 80,000) and 30 minutes light rowing. I can't wait to really wo again.

Hello my name is Sunny and I'm a RA in withdrawal  :furious:

Christa - I KNOW you can do the tri. Don't worry about time, just worry about doing the best that you can...and when you finish it you will feel so great about your accomplishment!! Besides, you are part of the WISH team and a member of RA so you are already way ahead of the game ;) Lining up at the starting line is what it is all about so I say GO FOR IT!!

Sunny - Um....80,000 lbs??? rrraaawwrr.... lol. Seriously, nice work and I bet that rowing was a great workout...

Mel - Yep, wanting to run thru DTD is definitely RA type material...welcome to the club! Great job on the 4 miler that you ran.

Dave - Thanks for the kind words and encouragement!

Michael - I think that you will beat 52 minutes in your 4 miler. You're progressing so well...thanks for the support and I hope your training is going well....

Amy - What can I say but thank you so much....you've been my biggest supporter and I can't thank you enough. Glad to see that you got another 6 miler in and did it at such a great pace! Let's see if this week will treat us a little better than the last one :)

Mel! Great pace on your run this week! :cheer2:

And it's funny you thought of Claire.....CLAIRE??? Where are you...we miss ya' honey!!! I was thinking about her today and wondering if all was okay?!?!

Scott.... :teeth: :goodvibes You are a ROCK STAR!!! I kept thinking about your run today and I'm just so proud and impressed! It gives me so much inspiration for my 5K coming up in a few weeks. I will be happy to better my first 5K time and feel great afterwards. AND....I just KNOW that this week will be great for us! I think I'm going to adjust my Tuesday and change my run:walk intervals a bit to allow for 4 run, 2 walk just to give those legs a break and see if that makes it easier. Thursday I'll do my typical 5:1 and next weekend I am up to 7 miles!!! :thumbsup2 :grouphug: I'm SOOOOO proud of you!!!!!!! WTG! :woohoo:

Sunny.....Ohhhh...I just love those fitlynx machines! I used to belong to a gym that had the system and it was such a motivational way to keep track of my progress. But now I am pretty much doing the marial arts/KBX thing so I dropped the gym membership. Not that I'm complaining...but I DID love that system! Glad you're feeling better too....now don't push it too much!!! :grouphug:

Morning Everyone,

Just a quick post for right now - yesterday, I got my act back together and went for my PT session. We did circuit training.....It felt so good to get back to exercising after taking last week off.

Next Sunday - is my first 10k, god I hope it's flat land. Unfortunately, they just don't give you enough information about the races.

Well, I have to catch up on posts

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

OK, I am up, hydrating, and going to have a Clif Bar before my first 10k in 8-10 years (funny, seems to correspond with the age of my oldest princess). I'm a little nervous about my race. I feel confident I can make it through the distance. I've put in the steps (as Lily would say), but I'm wondering if my legs are going to be bothering me the whole time. Well, I'll find out in a couple of hours.

Before my race I wanted to share something I posted on the T-shirt thread. Sunny came up with a phrase for the back of the shirt "WISH gave me the courage to start", and it really sums up my experience. But also for me the support I've gotten from my fellow TEAM mates has really kept me going for these 4 months now.

I found this group because I was coming off a trip to WDW over Labor Day 2005 and trying to figure out how to get back. Along that same time I decided that I needed to start getting some exercise. I used to be a runner and decided that I wanted to get back to that. I literally stumbled upon this group. Lily invited me to join, and you all have really kept me going for 4 months now. That's the longest I've run or exercised consistently in about 8-10 years. And in a couple of hours I'm going to run in a 10k.

Jodi and Amy - I look at you two as my compatriots - brothers and sisters on the team. It seems like we joined the TEAM at the same time and started around the same place/level. Thank you both for all your support. I'll be thinking of you all during my run. Oooh, this is weird - I feel like this race is changing something in me. I feel like this is an ending of a sort, but maybe it is more of a beginning.

Eric...I'm officially nominating you for membership as a big dog :dog: That Fuerteventura place sounds pretty hardcore!

Mel,
thank you, but I have to admit that Fuerte was kind of tame. We once attended an Aerobic Workshop at Club Aldiana in Tunisia. There were about 150 people attending it and so we had to do the classes on the soccerfield without any shade in temps of around 38°C/100°F. We usually did 2 hours in the morning, then spent some time at the beach, relaxing, basking in the sun, having a light lunch, and playing some volleyball. In the early afternoon we went back to aerobics. And after dinner we did line dancing in the disco. We did that routine for a whole week and the second week I attended a Beach Volleyball Workshop.
To give you an impression of the heat in Tunisia: The Tatooine scenes of all Star Wars movies where shot close to the location of our club. But with the desert so close by it is a dry heat and not as straining as the humid heat in Florida. And in the afternoon we usually had a nice breeze coming in from the sea.

Oh, Dave, I am thinking about you this morning! I remember when I encouraged you to step up from 2 miles to 3 miles a few months ago and here you are doing a 10K. That is awesome. :cheer2:

Really, as we increase our distance every couple of weeks it is a new beginning. We all should be very proud of the new accomplishments we are making over the year. When I started training for my 2006 Disney Marathon, I thought I could never get over 6 miles, (that was a whole hour of running...unheard of...) the next week 8 miles were doable, etc. etc.

Before you know it, this 10K will be a walk in the park. I can't wait to hear all about it!

Mel - WTG on your pace :cool1: You ARE a runner!!!

Sunny - Slow and steady on the return to workouts so no relapses. Glad you were able to get some WT in at the Y.

Jodi - Best of luck on your 10k next week.

Dave - You're SO gonna rock that 10K today. :cheer2: Enjoy!!

Cam - I hope the hip is feeling fine. Please tell Howard we're thinking of him today. Let us know how he does.

10 miles for me yesterday and I think I'm just going to do an active rest day today with some yoga. I am so happpy to report being out of my running funk now that I am looking forward to the Marine Corps Marathon.

Best of luck to everyone with meeting goals this week.

First off thanks chimera for sending out the dog catchers - they got me. :rotfl2: Dave, good luck today in your 10 k.

I’m back. Well I have been a bit side tracked by a health scare that had me more than a bit worried. I have been having a lot of pain in the front of my neck since the end of January and finally went to see the doc when I noticed a lump. Immediately my doc had me get some blood work and an ultrasound of my thyroid – having two sisters diagnosed with thyroid cancer in the past 18 months this was an area of concern. The blood work showed a couple of areas of question and then the ultrasound reveled a nodule on the right side of my thyroid. To make a long story short, I was referred to an endocrinologist and saw her on Friday. She reviewed my history, the labs and the ultrasound and stated simply “you do not have cancer but probably have thyroiditis.” However, we will need to have one more test done (doing this on Tuesday) to confirm but she stated that she is 100% sure it is nothing to worry about. She said it is common to get thyroiditis after having the flu and that the pain should be gone in another month or two. It is viral and there really is no treatment other than NSAIDs. Needless to say I was a very happy person Friday morning and celebrated by going out and knocking off a 10 miler in 1:16 on a very hilly course. Boy did that feel great. I then followed that up by participating in a previously signed up for Cancer society Relay for Life event and walked more than 10 miles on the track yesterday. The walk had a bit of a different feel for me than when I signed up for it though.

:grouphug: Goofyguy~I'm so sorry that you had to deal with a health scare but I'm relieved to hear that it isn't too serious! A very good friend of mine had thyroiditis this past winter and she is doing really well now....although during the flare up she really did have a good deal of discomfort. So pixie dust for you and hoping that it clears up quickly!!!!! Also, super job on your 10 miler!

Ohhhhh Dave?!?! I hope things went well today for your 10K! Can't wait to hear how it was!!!

Greetings TEAM:

First of all - Goofyguy1958 I'm glad to hear that your thyroid scare was not cancer. Here's to you getting better.

Erik - wait, did you say you live near where they filmed that Tatooine scenes in Star Wars? Or did you visit there? Oooh, I want to go.

OK, I have to write a quick report on my 10k because I am boarding a plane in 10 minutes. I have to go to Maine for work for 3 days. I wish I could stay here and relish in the moment.

My 10k went GREAT!!! There were some omnious signs early on - it was grey, cold, and rainy when I woke up, the parking for the race was all messed up and people couldn't find anywhere to park, and when I strapped on my Garmin the battery was dead. I was thinking that this race was not meant to be for me.

Anyhow, I got to the starting line, saw people lining up, and joined the crowd. All of the sudden, we're off... OK, no annoucement or anything. Like I said, I didn't have my Garmin, so I figured I would run my pace and take it all in and enjoy it. There were close to 1500 runners, and it took about a minute to cross the starting line. One mile went by in a little over 10 minutes. Not too bad, I was hoping to keep a 10 mpm pace. Around 2.5 miles the woman that runs Fleet Feet where I do my AP Learn to Run Program was there with a van and crowd to cheer us on. She saw me, yelled out my name and gave me a big high five. That felt good, and gave me a little push. I hit the 5k mark close to 30 min, still on pace. I round the corner into my neighborhood, and there's my DW and princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess: at the water stop. It felt so good to see them all there and have them cheering me on. We ran through my neighborhood for another mile, and I saw some other friends and neighbors. The last 2 miles I kept chugging along and we climbed some long hills. I heard my name as I crossed the finish line, and "David Parfitt" has just crossed in just under 63 min. Not too bad. I would have loved to gotten under an hour, but I really just enjoyed the moment.

Thank you Jodi, Amy, Sara, Colleen, Goofyguy1958, Scott and everyone else for all your well wishes. Jodi you're up next I think. Colleen I had forgotten that was you that suggested me to up the mileage from 2-3 miles. I remember my response, and not thinking I was ready. Whoo hoooo! Look at me now. It feels good.

OK, gotta run. Talk to you all soon.

Colleen - You are so sweet! WW has been wonderful for me. It is also easier to run with less weight so I feel faster (not sure if I am though :teeth: ). However, how I have eaten the past 2 days..one would think I am a bear trying to get ready for my winter sleep. :rotfl2:

Dave- Great job on the 10K! Great time! I am so glad your shin splints aren't acting up anymore.

Christa- You really do look great! I am starting WW tomorrow. I have got to lose all the extra weight I have put on.

Yesterday, DH and I participated in the Beach to Bay Relay Marathon in Corpus Christi. It was so much fun! I started the race on the beach. If I do not see sand again for a long time, it will be too soon. Running on sand is tough. I was finally able to find some firm sand down by the water, but the fluffy stuff at the start almost killed me. I got to watch the sun rise over the bay, and the temperature was nice (74 degrees). We ran 2 miles into a strong wind. It took me a while to warm up. Then, when we did the turnaround and headed back to the starting line. My last 2 miles were easy. The wind at my back really helped! I was able to do negative splits. My last mile was 13:32! That is my fastest mile ever! I am so proud that I could run 4 miles at run3/walk2 and that I could go so fast (for me). I thought of all of you as I ran to keep up motivation. I kept saying "I can do this! I am doing this!" The sun, the waves, the salt air, it was a great run. I actually think that firm sand is a much easier surface on my body for running. I handed the baton to my DH at 58:00. My leg of the race was 4.10 miles, so I set a PR. The long mile walk back to the shuttle buses on fluffy sand almost killed me, but we had a great time. Our team finished the marathon in 4:39:09. We even made the sports page where they list the times.

I have packed my bag for the gym tomorrow morning. I am determined to get back into training mode. I am tired of being fat and weak. I am ready to take control of my life again. Thanks for all of your support! Without you guys, I never ever would have thought that I could actually be a runner. Now I know that I can. :grouphug:

Hi Everyone :wave2:

Just coming out of chronic lurker mode to say hello and send well wishes and congratulations to all everyone with races this weekend.

I had a fabulous weekend at the Minnie with Cam (can't believe we have been home 2 weeks already) and hope we can return next year. The only negative was losing my voice and most of the hearing in my right ear over the weekend. I ended up with an ear infection and bronchitis - ugh. Fortunately, I have mostly recovered although I still haven't gotten all of my hearing back and hope that is resolved soon.

It is great to read all of the inspirational and supportive posts here on the WISH boards. It keeps me coming back week after week - even if I mostly read and hardly post :) Thank you all for so generously sharing your knowledge, your inspirational stories and your :grouphug: - it has truly made a HUGE difference in my life!

I DID IT!! This was my first Marathon. It was a tough race for sure, but I finished with a good overall time, not quite what I had hoped for though. I hoped to finish around 4:15-4:30. I hit "the wall" around mile 14 and was completely void of energy, desire to continue and hope. All I could do is walk for a while and take on Gu and a Energy Bar (a bit later on) to help give me the energy to continue. I bounced back pretty well and had a better 4th lap than my 3rd for sure. I had the BEST rooting section at the race with Cam, DS, and my friend (Mike) and his family.

Here are my "splits" or times per lap:

348 51 Howard M 42 4:41:09 1: 1:04:29 1:04:29 2: 1:02:39 2:07:07 3: 1:19:53 3:27:00 4: 1:14:10 4:41:09

The evidence of "the wall" is there in my 3rd lap time of 1:19:53.

Thanks to everyone (Sara, Dave, Christa, etc.) who gave me words of encouragement, tips, well wishes and prayers. :grouphug:

:grouphug:

Howard
SWEEEET! :cheer2: Howard that is so great! Gotta hate the wall, but you overcame it and finished with a great time! I am so proud of you! :woohoo:

TXBelle - running on the sand! :scared1: Not an easy thing, but it sounds like you had a great time. Oh and you have great stories! That is what it is all about! :teeth:

GoofyGuy - Glad your "scare" turned out okay.

Dave, Heather and Howard - GREAT JOB on your races this weekend!

My craziness at work will ease up this week, so I'm planning to get back on the training track. :goodvibes

Since Howard spoke about hitting his "wall", for those that did the Disney marathon or Goofy, did you hit the wall anywhere and if so, where?
My toughest part was in the marathon around the 23 mile mark (I think that's what it was). Anyway, it was the long turnaround stretch leading to the exit to MGM Studios. I think I talked to myself going down the road, after the turn-around and all the way into MGM. I kept telling myself to keep going, as long as I was moving I would finish. I had a wicked shin splint and wanted to stop for some bio-freeze, but knew if I stopped even for a few seconds, I might not start again. That was my tough spot. What was yours?

Dave,
first let me join in on the congratulations for your 10K - Good Job :thumbsup2
No, I don't live near 'Tatooine' ;) we just vacationed twice in Tunisia and it would have been possible to go and see the area, but the guides at our club said that it's not worth it as it's just a stretch of desert.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

:thanks: crzy4mk/Michael, Scott, Christa, MelR, Amy, Monte/Monica, Colleen, Heather, Sunny, Jodi, Rhonda, Terri, Eric, and everyone else I might have forgotten. Boy it still feels good that I completed that race. That was a big goal for me.

monte/Monica- You are going to do great at your race next weekend. You just ran 5 miles. You're a runner too. If I can do it - so can you!!! Don't worry about time. In a lot of ways I'm glad I didn't have my Garmin for the race. It let me enjoy the moment. Just think of the race as a celebration of all your training.

Heather- WTG :thumbsup2 on your Beach to Bay relay yesterday. Uuugh, running in sand doesn't sound fun. This may be a silly question, but did you wear shoes? Did you get sand all in your shoes? Wow, 74 degrees - we were lucky if it was 50 degrees in Rochester for my race. I could definitely see my breath during the race. When I left for the airport there was ice chunks falling from the sky. Good luck on getting back into your training.

Jodi- You are going to do fantastic for your 10k next weekend. You will ROCK girl... I know it!

Rhonda- Sorry to hear about your ear infection and bronchitis. Congratulations on the Minnie! It was great to see the pictures of you with Cam. It looked like you were having so much fun.

Hi Eric- Thanks for clearing up the Tunisia thing for me. I must admit I was reading fast before my race and getting to the airport, and I was confused because I knew you were in Germany. Yeah, I can't imagine touring a strip of desert would be all that interesting.

Christa- I never said congratulations on your new job. It sounds like it is a dream job for you, and that it is something you will get a lot of fulfillment from. I hope it doesn't cut into your training and posting on the WISH boards at all.

Wow, it is shaping up to be a beautiful day here in Maine. I'm in Portland at a hotel right on the Casco Bay, and the sun is up and the view is gorgeous. Have a great day everyone and great training!

OK, I need some lovin'. I am doing an xterra race in about 3 weeks.(my 1st - all my multi-sport stuff is adventure racing on a team and usually, phil's good navigation skill balance out my bad mountain biking) I just sent an email to the race director asking him to clarify information about the cutoff times for the mountain biking section! I'm afraid I can't finish in the given amount of time. The worst part is that all of my friends and adv race team mates are going to BEAT ME DOWN!!!!!! Then, I'm going to spirial into thoughts of inadaquacy about adventure racing w/ them, b/c it has been documented that I am not a worthy mountainbiker!!!!!!! Help!!!!

I did bike about 8.7miles of the 13 miles of trail yesterday. If I can keep the pace from yesterday, I should finish w/ in the cutoff, but I am worried that I will be slower b/c I'll have to stop and let people by who are faster.

Lynn - I don't think I can make up time on the bike or the run. I'm going to post a link of the topo so you can see it! I have been doing a bunch of trail running and mt. biking, but my pace is just so much slower than on the road. The worst part is, the climbs are horrible, the downhills are rediculious and the flat parts are incredibly technical! I don't think I ever get this nervous about other races!

DAVE - AWESOME!!!!!!!!! You are going to do GREAT :cool1: :thumbsup2 :sunny: :Pinkbounc and here is a special one just as a preview of your medal that will be hanging around your neck in Jan :mickeyjum

You do realize that unless you do Goofy and get 2 medals, your princesses are going to have a property dispute about who gets to wear the mickey!!!

You weren't here when I told the story about the boy accepting trophy for me and then carrying it around town all day, but he took great pride in carrying a woman running trophy all over town (restaurants, shopping...) During the outings though, he would get bored w/ it and put it down, which left me carrying it and it ended up looking like I was so proud to have a trophy that I was bringing it w/ me!! The boy and I have been riding the trail a bike and racing daddy around the block. The boy is the current undefeated champion, big shock, so he is currently in posession of the above mentioned trophy!

Great job Howard! You are truly an inspiration to all of us! :cheer2:

MelR- You can do it! If you don't even try, you definitely will not make the cut-off time on your couch. ;) You should try! Will it be easy? Probably not, but you will have such a feeling of accomplishment when you finish! :cloud9:

Dave- I did wear shoes in the sand. There was a little bit of sand in my shoes, but it was not too bad. I actually did not see anyone without running shoes, but my DH thinks you definitely could do it without shoes.

I went to the gym today and ran/walked 30 minutes. I am still sore from Saturday's race, but I just took it slower on the treadmill. WW is going well so far (as I have been at it 3 hours now!). Already had lots of water and will continue throughout the day.

Has anyone seen the latest offer from Adidas? You can try out a pair of their top running shoes for 28 days. If you do not like them, you can return them after the 28 day trial period. Here is the link: www.adidas.com/testrun28

I am thinking about trying a pair. What do I have to lose?

Greetings everyone! :wave2:

Hey everyone, guess what I got for my birthday?!?!?!?!? :rolleyes1

SICK! Yup, it's either bronchitis or pneumonia. I'll know as soon as the bloodwork comes back. Sunny, did the doctor tell you no training for six weeks? I told my doctor "I'm sorry but it can NOT be pneumonia. I have been training since November and Monday is my first ever event. I will not miss it." She said "We'll see...". I told her we will NOT see. And that's that! :furious:

However, I did train Sat and today and I still did my 45 min @ 3.8 @ 1% and added 4 minutes of running @ 4.5 to the end of the 45 min. So, there!

GoofyGuy - Wow, I'm sorry you are going thru all that. :wizard: and :goodvibes that you are OK.

Dave - Wow! Congrats on the 10K! :cheer2: I have to say, even though I haven't meet you yet IRL, I am very proud of you! :thumbsup2 Plus you signed up for the Full! AWESOME! And.... You're so funny! I cracked up when you asked Eric about Tatooine! :lmao: I was actually just looking at job openings at ILM. A girl can dream, can't she??? :p

Monte - I agree that you did FIVE miles! I think that's fab-u-lous! You should be proud.

Heather - It wouldn't happen for me until I was ready, no matter how many times I tried. Seems like you are there now. And off to a great start! :Pinkbounc

Howard - Whoooo hoooo! That is wonderful! You must feel so good about such a great accomplishment! Way to go!! :thumbsup2 I am proud of you!

Melissa - Here! Quick! Take this: :wizard: :shamrock: :mickeybar: Now, remember what Dave said....DNF greatly trumps DNS

Funny, I was just thinking about the lack of "dog speak" this year!

Just trying to put my nose above water to do a quick check in. No, I'm not trianing for a tri, I'm drowning at home and work. ;)

Mel - Good Memory! Wow. Yes, I have a 6-miler across the Mackinaw Bridge Saturday morning.

I hope I get more rest this week, as I was wiped ouot from a cold Saturday for a 4-miler. Got to do 12 mpm for this one. On a normal day, I should be fine, but life's been crazy.

Michael - Welcome!!! I forgot to wirte it down, but you and the WISHer who's north of ATL need to get together and run the SIlver COmet Trail. We did our 20-miler on that last year and it was awesome!!!

Karen - WOw, that's major surgery. I'l keep your friend's dd in my prayers.

Judy - Happy Belated Birthday Ms. Runner!!!!

HOward - Hope the marathon went ok!

Oh Judy, I feel your pain (literally). My dr told me it would be weeks before I was better but didn't say what I could or couldn't do. I did get a "five yo" type lecture when I called complaining I was getting worse after going to work on the fifth day, though. I'd say pay close attention to how your lungs and body feel. You'll know if you're pushing them too hard. Even after the incessant cough left, if I pushed to hard I felt like I was being zapped by something electrical from head to toe and people told me I was blue. :confused3 I really hope you can do your event, but its much better to miss it and get strong ASAP (recall I had to DNS my very frist tri for mine :furious: )

Terri

Terri, I didn't hit the wall per se. But I had a strange running surface shift as the race went on. Up 'till about mile 22 I was definitely running on concrete. I could see it and I could feel it. But then it seemed to turn to sand. By mile 24 it was taking on the consistency of peanut butter. By mile 26 I was sure I was running waist deep in peanut butter even though my eyes were still registering concrete. :lmao: I agree the switch-back is totally psychologically draining!

I went to the gym today :Pinkbounc (and I'm not blue!) I was careful and didn't push the lungs hard.

MelR-- you can do it :woohoo: If anyone can, you can. You always underestimate yourself, ALWAYS! I think you need to attach a feather to your mountain bike ;) :grouphug:

I can't believe it's Monday . . . I have had an AWESOME day!

Since I have decided just about a week ago to start some competitive "running", I have been trying to keep up with some times on various length runs. Last Friday, I did 3 miles at a quick pace, but not racing or killing myself, and finished in 39 minutes. Today, I did 3 again, and finished in 37:12! I was very pleased since I just started on all this. I'm wearing 5 year old Reeboks that are definitely not designed for this, so I'm off this week for some crosstrainers that I hope will decrease my times (and the pain in my knees and shins) even more! I am so pumped for my first race, the GA 400 Road Race in a couple of weeks. It's a 4 mile race, and my original goal was 52 minutes, but I think I might can do better than that.

And that's not even the best part of my day!

I've been doing WW since March 12th and have been really losing some pounds. I had a somewhat disappointing weigh in last Monday, only losing 1/2 pound. Well, today I stepped on the scales, and I lost 6.6 pounds this past week! All that time at the track is really paying off!!! 33 pounds total since I started.

Now, if the Braves can win tonight, it will be a perfect day! :teeth:

P.S. Carrie, I plan to run the Silver Comet 1/2 marathon at the end of October. That should let me know that I'm in good enough shape for the WDW 1/2 marathon!

Sunny

That is an awesome idea!!!!! I think I will do that. I don't know if I've told you guys that i got a new bike (I sold my old one for the same price that I bought this one for). It has shocks in the front and back and it is heavier than my old one. The old one only had shocks in the front. It is a trade off weight for improved technical skill. I'm not sure if i've gotten much better yet, but the downhills are less rough. anyway, i've been doing all kinds of things to reduce the weight of my bike. i got some carbon fiber handlebars and then i took a pipe cutter and cut off the excess length on my seatpost. I'm going to get lighter pedals too. all that being said, I could put a feather on my bike. It can't weigh more than 1 gram and that would give me a great reminder of the bravery of my WISH team. :rotfl2:

Dave - Thanks for the congrats on the new job thing! I am excited...Congrats on signing up for WDW marathon! You will have a blast!

Howard - I have just 1 word for you being sore - SWIM! It will work out the pain and feels really good...but swim slow!

Judy - I hate that you got sick! I understand you wanting to push yourself, but it may/maynot be worth it in the long run (no pun intended). Listen to your body.....That is funny coming from me, I am the push through and love the pain, no pain meds for anything, love the pain, evil queen! :rotfl2: Do what I say, not what I do.

Michael - Congrats on your 3 in 37:12! That is AWESOME! :thumbsup2

Monte - You are so sweet! Thanks for the encouragement. I have lost around 30lbs. Even though I am tall in attitude, I am short in height so that much weight makes a diff.

Could not really find a b/4 pic but here is a pic of me and my sis after we ran our 1st race EVER! (Can you guess which one is me? No we are not twins even though we look exactly alike!) Race for the Cure 2001 - 5k. I remember finishing in 33 min and being SO PROUD! I said I would NEVER be able to do 26.2 miles. I have finished 4...so If you can dream it, then you can do it! If I can do it anyone can. At that point, I would have rather cut off both my legs than run. Now I am a part of "RA" with Sunny! :rotfl2:

Michael,

Great job on your running and weight loss! :cheer2:

Try and find a good running store in your area and let them fit you for proper running shoes. They will be able to tell you have a neutral gait or pronate, and fit you into to cushioning or stability running shoes. You may pay a bit more for the shoes, but finding the proper shoes is essential to decrease injuries and pain in knees and shins.

MelR, what Sunny and everyone said, YOU CAN DO THIS! Afterall you have so many well wishers rooting for you here at WISH. :grouphug:

This is too funny! I am in the white hat! So she must be my evil twin! She is married too so looking for a ring would not have worked. She was thinner than me in this pic, but we are the exact same size now. You should see us in our swim caps at the pool! People think they are seeing double. I am also trying to get her to do WDW! Hi there - wow I missed a lot again. Congrats Howard, Congrats Dave, and that time is great. It's also great you've entered the full, took me years to pluck up the courage!!! Oh, and I too have been to Star Wars village in Tunisia, seem to remember having dinner in a cave, never having sat through one of the movies it didn't mean so much to me, but my friend was overly excited and kept shrieking something in a very high voice and muttering 'these are not the droids you are looking for'.

So, re the wall conversation, it was the reason I didn't want to do a marathon, I had this vision of this evil thing that hit every marathoner, leaving them in pain, snivelling and with no bladder control (and you wonder why I was so scared!!!) but it never came. I admit that at 19 miles when you hit a very small hill that feels like a mountain on the course, I thought 'what am I doing' but then happy songs came on the ipod so that was that gone. Also, at 21 miles when I had another brief, 'why am I here' moment, I walked in a sadly jaunty fashion, singing away to myself in an attempt to fool myself into thinking I was just out of a stroll. Mind you, all of these tactics may explain why I had the slowest time of all the WISH runners. But fact is I have actually felt worse in half races that I hadn't trained for than I felt at any point in the marathon. Remind me of that next year when I start my Goofy training won't you.

Anyway, got to go back to work, got a relatively quiet week this week hence my reappearance. Will make more time come June 3rd when DL training begins though. Helen

Helen,
I intend to visit your country sooner or later. I got relatives Down Under and have been planning on paying them a visit for years now. They vacationed in NZ two years ago and sent us a DVD of their impressions - WHOAAAAA!!! It was even better than in Lord of the Rings ;)
The long flight has been the deterrent for me so far, but now we've been Thailand twice and as this is already half the distance, I guess we'll be going the whole way in two or three years ;)

Good morning everyone!!! :sunny: Guess what, I ran last night for the first time in a month and a half and NO KNEE PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am SO excited!! Granted, I r2/w2 and it was only a mile, but still I ran I didn't have any pain!! Only 25.2 more to go! :thumbsup2 Walt Disney World was WONDERFUL and it was hard to leave, but I'll cheer myself up by saying only 129 days until our next trip. :teeth: As soon as I figure out how to post pictures, I'll post a couple of our vacation.

Christa--You look fabulous!!! You looked great before, but man you look awesome now. I bet your hubby is loving that!! ;) So, you lost the weight after your tri? Wasn't that only a couple of months ago?

Cam--I looked at your Minnie's pics, have you lost weight since January too? You look a lot thinner to me.

Howard-- :cheer2: on your marathon!! I didn't realize that this was your first full. Great time! How are the muscles today?

Dave-- :cheer2: :cheer2: on signing up for the full!!!! Did you feel like you were going to throw up too?? And great time on your 10K. Do the princesses know they are going to WDW in 7 1/2 months?

Carrie--I cannot imagine 6 miles across a bridge. I've run maybe a half mile/mile across 2 bridges in Cincinnati during the Thanksgiving Day 10K and Flying Pig and it was so windy. I think running 6 in the wind is like the running 10 without wind! Good luck!

Sunny--Don't push it!!! I'm glad that you are feeling a little better. Maybe this was discussed when we were on vacation and I missed it, but how was the 5K with your ex? Did you break the news that he is running Disney yet??

Melissa--YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!! I have so much faith in you!! Just get your feather and fly like the wind!!

Goofyguy--Oh my gosh! What a scare! I'm so glad that it wasn't cancerous. I can't imagine the fear you must have felt while waiting for the test results. I hope you feel better soon.

Heather--Awesome run!! I have never run in sand before, but just from walking in it, I can imagine how hard that must have been. But it does sound wonderful just the same!

Judy--Happy Birthday!! I hope you are feeling better today. Put me in the camp with those who say listen to your doctor and your body and don't push it. Trust me, it isn't worth it in the long run, I have learned that the hard way with my IT band.

Minnie--Wasn't the Flower and Garden Show beautiful?? Did you have a good time on vacation?

Amy--Are you watching AI tonight? I don't really think I will, at this point I don't care who wins. I might watch it to see Chris sing, but that's it. I think Katherine has a beautiful voice, but I think Elliot was more deserving of the being in the top 2.

Jodi--Good luck on your 10K!

Helen--Great to see you again. I'm still sad you won't be running WDW this year. :sad2:

Mel-- :wizard: for your foot!! Let me know about running at Saratoga and DtD, we are staying at SSR in October and that's right in the thick of marathon training!! Have a great time!

Terri--Did you decide to go Goofy again?

Wow. This is a long post! I hope I got everyone, if not I'm sorry!!! to everyone I missed!

Sheesh--- you go missing for a week and everyone has something going on!! I feel so out of the loop! :guilty: Well, let's try to catch up, shall we?

GoofyGuy-- Whew!! Glad to hear that your health issue was nothing very serious.

Dave-- Congrats on the 10K!! WTG!! And congrats on registering for the marathon!!! :thumbsup2 It'll be great!! We promise!!

Heather-- Congrats!! Great race!!

Howard-- Congrats to you as well!! Great splits!!

Judy-- Happy Birthday!!!!

Carrie-- I kinda figured you were doing the Bridge Run!! I was considering it after the marathon, but passed since I didn't know what my work situation would be for this weekend. Good luck to you and we need a full report, of course. :thumbsup2

Michael-- I must have missed your arrival.... but WELCOME!!! These folks are great!

Terri-- I have the same question about my Goofy registration, especially since I haven't been getting the emails. I registered online, so I can pull my info up on SignMeUp sports, so I think I am OK. I hope. For last year's race there was a place on the website where you could check your registration, but I don't see it there yet. Hmmm.... maybe I should email to doublecheck....

In response to your second question, I hit the same wall you did, LOL. I think mile 22 was the toughest for me. Something about that on ramp and stretch of road leading into MGM was just awful. I felt markedly better once inside MGM. Mentally, I think mile 19 was the toughest-- really when all the miles felt twice as long as in the beginning. That Animal Kingdom parking lot is HUGE!!!

OK, so I'm back to the land of the living... no more events for the next three months. No work travel, either. Excuse me while I dance a moment.... :cool1: Thanks. I was all gung-ho to start workouts again yesterday, but instead got saddled with a migraine by midafternoon. :headache: I'm feeling much better this morning, so I should be good to go today. :thumbsup2 I am registered for a 5K in Toronto on June 24th and then another 5K locally at the end of July/early August, so hopefully that will keep me running until the Goofy training starts.

Better get back to work...
Happy training!

Judy - Happy Birthday!! I am so sorry that you got sick, it's definately no fun believe me I KNOW!! Take care of yourself and get better soon.

Michael - Head to a store that specializes in Running to buy your running shoes. It makes a world of difference, especially when it comes to avoiding injury. Congratulations on the weight loss!! :cheer2:

Krista - Congratulations on the run without knee pain. I can't wait to see the pictures of your vacation. Which reminds me I need to finish my trip report with pictures from April!!

Well everyone I am sorry it has taken me so long to post. Unfortunately, every single person in the house (baby included) came down with Strep Throat. So even though I was feeling pretty crappy I still had to take care of them. Thankfully though you start feeling better soon after taking the antibiotics. Bad part was that I couldn't get out for a run all weekend long. Today was my first run since Thursday which is when I started hurting so bad. Michael really wasn't up for his bike this morning so I had both boys in the jogging stroller and still pulled off 2.5 miles in about 25 min.We have also been very busy trying to get everything ready for this house, and I wanted to share some pics.

Ok, now I have a couple of questions. Hope you guys don't mind.

1) For those of your who Run/Walk, what is your ratio? I have always been just a runner, but was reading Jeff Galloway's web page about how run/walk can help prevent injuries. I was thinking about trying it out, but don't really know anyone who has used it before.

2) For those of you who have hit the "WALL" how far had you run or walked during your training. The reason I ask is ... well.... I am terrified of the "WALL". I don't really know why but I am scared of the wall to the extent of doing everything I can not to chicken out of the marathon completely. The training plan that I am using calls for my longest run to be 24-26 miles about 3 weeks before the actual marathon. Do you think that running that distance before the actual marathon will help prevent crashing straight into that dreaded wall?

Hi everyone!

Krista - We had a fabulous time at the F&G Show!!! We stayed at the Pop and while I likely won't do that again it was nice to give it a try. If anyone does stay there I saw someone running and rollerblading around the lake area so that is an option.

I've been MIA for the last couple days as I was in a riding accident and ended up with a collapsed lung. Thankfully my cousin brought me in a laptop so I can do my homework and check in with my office from here. I am hoping that they will take the chest tube out today. I should know within the next couple of hours. :wizard: please everyone I want out of here :sad2:

Dana--

1. My ratio is anywhere from 3 minutes running/ 2 minutes walking to 5 minutes running/ 1 minute walking. Particularly with my longer runs, I have found this helps my pace out. Mind you, during the marathon, my intervals went out the window. I used the Marathoning for Mortals program last year and have modified it for Goofy training this year. There are lots of folks on this board who have used this program.

2. "The Wall" is not something I would worry too much about. John Bingham describes it as "nothing really hurting, it's just like someone asking you to carry a refrigerator for the rest of the way," and that about sums it up. I think no matter how much training you do, during a 26 mile event, you are going to get tired. You just will. My longest run was 20 miles (which I did intervals for) and I feel that served me well. I don't know if 4 or 6 extra miles for my longest run would have benefitted me that much. If anything, I would worry about the recovery time required between a run of that length and the actual race, particularly if you are a first time marathoner. (Just my 2 cents, of course) Don't chicken out!! If you can will yourself to the start line, you can will yourself to the finish line. :thumbsup2

Thank you all for the well wishes. I was very concerned about the thyroid issue but tried to keep a positive outlook and actually got in 8 or 9 runs during my two weeks in limbo. Aside from an increase in fatigue and a lot of pain in the neck everything is looking bright. Yesterday I ran my 4.6 mile loop at work (during lunch) in 34:02 - this was to be a nice relaxed run after my 12 walk on Saturday with the Relay for life and 10 mile run on Friday. I really felt good during the run and was very suprised by the time.

Congratulations to all you racers and I love reading the reports of first timers. Dave, way to go on the Full registration. I felt, and sometimes continue to feel, the same way about the Goofy but we will all get through it and have some great stories for after.

Dana, the wall is a mythical thing that is more appropriately called fatigue. I hit it in my second marathon but after a short walk some power gel and water was able to continue onto my best marathon time (3:50 and some seconds) yet. The best advice is to train smartly and simpl get through the "wall" if it appears.

Hi All!

Just in case you were wondering....

117 days until the DL half
228 days until the WDW half
229 days until the WDW full

I'm in week 3 of MFM training for the Chicago Distance Classic in August. The slow but sure method works for me!! (with a lot of emphasis on slow!).

Take care everyone, I love reading your posts.

Hi, everyone! I, too have been MIA, though reading whenever I could. There is so much great stuff going on here!

So, forgive this mile-long post, but I wanted to catch up!

Heather – Congrats on doing so well at your relay! I can’t believe you had to run on sand! I know how exhausting it is just walking on a beach but to run and have to continue is something to be proud of.

Dave – Your time was awesome on your 10K! You must be so proud of yourself! If that is what gave you the courage to sign up for the Full, I am so happy for you! Mickey can only be so motivating – you will have a great time looking back on your first event and realizing how well you did and that you can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. And, I’d bet DW is becoming more and more convinced of your commitment and your ability. I have to tell you, the fringe benefits to me of Howard getting in such great physical shape have been myriad! He is so “cut” and “buff” as my brother and his family noticed last night when they saw the pictures of him running to the marathon finish. He may feel great about himself, but I am also tremendously proud of him and proud to be with him! I bet your wife feels the same! :)

Goofyguy – Wow, that was scary! So glad to hear everything is okay. Thanks for letting us know

Terri – I think it is very impressive that you got all the way to mile 23 before you faced your big challenge. Our friend who has now run 7 marathons and who was here Sunday to support DH said he couldn’t finish his first one – he dropped out at mile 17 when he hit the wall and just absolutely could not continue.

Melissa – Isn’t it funny how I have absolute 100% no-doubt confidence in you when you are doubting yourself? How can that be? You have accomplished so MUCH that I can’t imagine there is anything you can’t do when you put your mind to it. I know you are concerned about the pacing requirement, but all you can do is your best. And I think you know deep down in your heart that just bringing yourself to the start is something to be so proud of! And DO NOT have any doubts about your adequacy as an adventure race team member – you have already proven what an awesome contribution you make to your team. And I’d bet that they also rely on your positive spirit and friendship on the trail to keep them all motivated so that they can perform at the levels they do. Don’t underestimate what you bring to the table, kiddo!

Judy – So sorry to hear you are sick. But you are just as bad as Sunny. You have to take care of yourself. And IF your doctor tells you to rest, that is what you have to do. Sending pixiedust: for a quick recovery.

Amy – I agree with Judy that today is the best day of all to register. :grouphug: Go ahead. Go do it and report to your WISH buddies so we can have a celebration in your honor.

Carrie – Take care of yourself this week, sweetie, so that your 6 miler doesn’t wear you out.

Sunny – I am glad you felt well enough to get to the gym, but I know we have to remind you to take it easy so you don’t relapse. We WILL do whatever we have to to keep you well, you know.

Michael – congrats on the great improvement in your pace and more importantly the AWESOME job you are doing on WW! Wish I could work hard enough to see results like that, but alas, must admit my discipline is not what it should be. Maybe you will rub off on me! ;)

Terri – We also registered by mail to get the DVC discount and both received post cards congratulating us on registering. Howard got a Goofy postcard and I got a Mickey! I think I am going to tape it to the snack closet to make me think twice about opening it! :teeth:

Krista – Thank you so much for the sweet comment about my weight. I haven’t lost nearly what I should have, but I think my clothes are fitting better, so maybe the exercise is helping. I am hoping all the WW people here will help me stay motivated. I HAVE to lose before the DL ½. I just cannot ask my body to carry me that distance at a better pace if I weigh this much. So, I really, really appreciate the encouragement!

Thanks to everyone who asked about my hip. Sadly, it is not better and I know exactly what the problem is and how to prevent further injury. I just haven’t been disciplined enough about stretching it out. The inflamed sacroiliac joint I suffered last summer made a brief re-appearance this week, but lying on the floor with my feet up on the bed as frequently as possible is helping stretch it out.

I am embarrassed to say I have not had time to train at all. More truthfully, I have not “made time” to train at all. DD17 graduates June 4 and we’ll have a houseful of people for the weekend. Prom is next Thursday. Many band programs, choir programs, and awards programs and other commitments are cutting into my evenings which I have come to count on for gym time. My current objective is to get through Saturday’s 5 mile race without too much pain or embarrassment and then to start training for the DL ½ right after Special Olympics is over on 6/9-10.

Dana – Gorgeous house and property!

Minnie – I posted to you on the other thread, but wanted to send prayers and pixiedust: your way. Feel better soon, kiddo.

Dana,
I sometimes do interval training on the treadmill. We've got programmable treadmills at the gym where I can simply switch between two selected speeds at the push of a button. When I do walk/run-intervals I walk .5K at 7.2kmh/4.5mph and run 1K at 12kmh/7.5mph.
Run/run-intervals I do at 10kmh/6.25mph and 14kmh/8.7mph also doing the slow portion for .5K and the quicker one for 1.0K. I always use an incline of .5 to 1.5% to compensate for the lack of drag and because it's better for the joints.

Eric

Judy and Cam.... :grouphug: I signed up for the full today :teeth: . I just did it. Skipped the DVC discount since I can't do it online and just DID IT! I knew if I printed it out to mail it would sit and sit.....so I took a deep breath and filled in the form and away it went thru cyber space!

And Krista...I do feel like I'm going to throw up  :(. WHAT AM I THINKING LOL!!!!

Dave...wouldn't it be great if we get put in the same corral! I think we'll be on about the same pace by marathon time!

Oh...and I guess I will watch AI tonight just to see it through to the end. :confused3 SOOOO glad your knee was good on the run and welcome back from a wonderful WDW trip! I can't wait to get back down there...I'm feeling sentimental about disney today. 3 months to go!

JUDY.....PLEASE take care of yourself! Those upper respiratory infections can be soooo tough! Don't push it! We're still in training to train mode....take care of yourself and rest!
---------------------------------------------------
So today I broke my Tuesday run curse (usually my worst run of the week) and did 4 miles with a 10:30 avg or there abouts! I still lose my pace on my long hill mile (over 11 mpm) but overall I felt good! :thumbsup2 Finished in 41:58 w/ avg 168 bpm which I think is good HR?! :confused3 BTW....LOVE LOVE LOVE my Garmin  :cloud9:

FL 70.3 race report

First things first- my Goofy application was turned in Saturday to the Disney Endurance types that were at the Expo so it's official- I'm going Goofy.(Wanted the DVC discount so needed to do the paper app) I also put down an ambitious 1/2 time of 1:55 on it so I will need to run a sub- 2 hour 1/2 mary to provide proof of time by/during this fall. I know I can or I wouldn't have put it down.

The plane touched the ground at 11:58 pm so it was technically still Thursday night. Collected the bike and got Magically Expressed to VWL. It was our first time at VWL and we would definitely stay there again. This would be blasphemy to my family but in some ways I liked it better than OKW.

Had breakfast at Whispering Canyon and took my sister to work so we could have her car. Put the bike together Friday morning and went for a run of one modified lap of the course. The Garmin clocked it at 4.12 miles but I skipped one loop portion- each lap should have been approx 4.3 miles. Encountered the first good news-bad news thing of the weekend: good news- over half the run was on trail, bad news- there was no, absolutely no shade for most of the run. Picked my packet up and found out I was starting in the 9th wave of 17 at 7:01 am, only 31 minutes after the first wave. No waiting around for an hour and a half like at St Anthony's. Got lunch at Trail's End. Good memories of the pre-Marathon WISH meet there. We met my cousin and his wife and their sons at DTD and got dinner at EoS.

Saturday morning we drove the course. So very glad we did that. I had heard that there were hills(yes, rolling not mountains but very definitely hills) and it was nice to have seen some of the technical turns and tricky sections ahead of time. It really was a pretty area w/ the hills, lakes, and orange groves. Went for an easy spin of the bike and then checked it into transition. Saturday nights at these races transition holds approx 6 million dollars of bikes. This is based on 2000 racers and an average cost per bike of $3000. Another triathlete thinks that my 3K per bike estimate is lowballing it. Needless to say they have mucho security for the transition area. Went to dinner offsite w/ the BeginnerTriathlete group. Decent meal and good group of people- some of the same ones I had met at St Anthony's but mostly new people.

Sunday- well, I got about 1 1/2 hours of sleep from 10ish until midnight and then I was wide awake waiting for 4 am to roll around when Mom(NYcpa) would be getting up. She and Erin(Stitch_lover_Sith) signed up to bodymark and they had to report by 0430. I thought transition closed at 0545(actually 0630) and I was awake anyway so I got up at 0430 and out of the Villa by 0450. It was kind of neat walking down the bike path to Fort Wilderness in the moonlight w/ a bit of haze hanging in the woods. Filled my 'water' bottles(w/ Gatorade), set up my transition, checked my bike tires and went to get body marked. Spent the next hour sitting on the fence by the body mark people talking w/ my family and some of the BTers. I wasn't cold but I couldn't stop shaking.

The swim- we started on the right side of the boat dock facing out to the lake at Fort Wilderness and finished on the left. The water was warm at 81-82 degrees so it was over the USAT wetsuit limit of 78. I was expecting that so I didn't even travel w/ a wetsuit. Due to the indigenous wildlife(freshwater in FL=alligators) the lake wasn't open for swimming prior to race morning so all I had done was stick my toes in to verify temperature. They started what they figured were going to be the slower waves earlier to give them more times to make the cutoffs so my age group (W30-34) started in about the middle. While we were waiting on the beach I was talking to a lady in my wave from Boston and Black Eyed Peas "Let's get this party started" was playing. I felt like puking. I just wanted it to start so the anticipation was over and that feeling would go away. It did when I was suddenly too busy swimming to think about it. I'm not a great swimmer so my goal was sub 40 minutes for the 1.2 mile swim and I was out of the water in 39:51.

TBC in part 2- have to go run and then swim in 57 degree water. Yippee

Amy – SOOO glad to hear you registered. I want you to remember one very important thing (especially when you feel like you are going to be sick) – you are not in this alone. Not for a single day, not for a single moment, and not even when you are out there on the Full course. We are all supported by our WISH buddies here and we will get each other through the training to train phase, and the training, and the nerve wracking days before the event and the entire marathon weekend.

And when all is said and done, you will have enjoyed the process so tremendously because of everything you are feeling now and because you are able to look back on today’s post somewhere down the line and know that today was the turning point. You had the courage to make the commitment. Now we will help you hold yourself to it. You may not know it but there are some very talented dog catchers around here, and we will come looking for you!

Just keep doing the awesome job you are doing. And when it comes right down to it, nowhere does it say you need to run the marathon. Your goal today is to get yourself to the start and then to get yourself to the finish. (Uh, yeah, I am trying to brainwash myself, but my insides are still jelly, and I am planning to walk it!). Great run today, BTW!

Hi everyone, again :thanks: for the great words and encouragement. I am feeling fine, almost 100% pain free. There are moments when I get up that I feel it in my calves. Not too much residual pain though. I am doing just fine and letting the immense attainment sink in a bit.

I sent Cam the photos she took and I hope she'll post them for me later on this evening or tomorrow. I am pretty much tech deficient here on this site. No pretty counters, bells or whistles in my signature, etc.

I am REALLY, REALLY looking forward to January and the WISH meet prior to the Half and Full Marathons. The challenge of "Goin' Goofy" has sunken in these past few days and I am a bit nervous about making them both happen in the same weekend.

Have a great evening! Thanks again!

His wish is my command. Every time I try to do this, I hope I get it right. Let's see if this works. IF it does,
#1 is Howard with DS12 -- he failed to eat breakfast, so I forced him to eat a powerbar
#2 is Howard running the loop the first time
#3 is on the second loop, I believe, and our friend who has done 7 marathons is with him, encouraging him and making sure he takes in some fluids
#4 is him trying to outrun the kiddies, that the race organizers plunked onto the course for the 1 mile fun run, while the marathoners were still coming in
#5 is the finish line clock after Howard passed it
#6 is him looking pretty darn "not bad" after he collected his medal

Dana
OK..Here is my GREAT 2 cents :thumbsup2 ...
My run/walk for my 1st marathon was 7/1, 2nd was 11/1, 3rd was to every mile marker, 4th was when I felt like walking..usually @ the H2O stops.
Training...I ran Goofy and trained to 12 miles on friday and 24 miles on Saturday...Goofy was EASY! Really! I loved it and never even got tired. I ran with my DH and was running slower than normal until mile 20, then I started RUNNING! wasn't my fastest race, but was the easiest and most fun!Hope this helps! Plan the race, Race the plan! Some people run to 20 or 18 miles, but I think the real marathon starts at mile 20..that is when you (well me) start thinking..."can I do this...I am almost done...I will never make it"...Head games! If you have done 24 miles, you know you can finish.
This is just my opinion... :smooth:

Awesome pics Howard (and Cam)! :thumbsup2 You will have no problem going Goofy! :cheer2:

Amybeth, that is awesome you signed up for the full! :woohoo: Congratulations, it does make one a little jelly, squishy-like inside, doesn't it?

Lynne, I loved reading your race report! I love hearing about everyone's race experiences. It is just so exciting. Can't wait for part 2.

Dave...wouldn't it be great if we get put in the same corral! I think we'll be on about the same pace by marathon time!

Amy - congrats on registering :thumbsup2 I know you can do it! BTW - great job on your run! :goodvibes

Howard! Wonderful pictures! You don't look like you rans 26.2!
Cam! You did GREAT posting the pics!
YOU BOTH ARE WONDERFUL!

Dana - Almost forgot! LOVE THE HOUSE!

Lynne - Girl you are killing me by only posting part 1! I am so loving reading about your races! You are superwoman!

OK my training......I swam over a mile yesterday in 42 min and a mile today in 30 something min. 2 lengths were with DD5 on my back! She is my mini me! Summer vacation is killing my biking. YMCA has childcare if I am running or swimming on site..WHAT ABOUT BIKING? What can I do with DD5 and DD8? DH works LONG hours so I may have to do all my biking on Friday and Saturday when he is off or not going into work so early.

Hi Everyone,

Haven't really kept you up-to-date about my training. I did some cross training this past Saturday (PT and I did some circuit training).

Last night did 3 miles on the Threadmill. Took me longer than it usually does but my plan was kind of take it slow and easy this week -- trying not to over do it (keeping Sunday's 10k in mind).

Judy - feel better soon!

Krista Great before and after photos :) Although, I don't think there was anything wrong with you in the first place.....but then again people say the same thing about me.

To those of you that have ran on Marathon weekend - do you remember if there is a shuttle that takes you to the Wide World of Sports to pick up your packet? Just trying to budget a little.....I won't be renting a car, most likely I will be taking the ME to Disney but was wondering how you get to pick up your registration packet......I know, why worry about this now, right?

FL 70.3 race report part 2

57 degrees is awfully cool for a 40 minute swim even in a wetsuit. The run before we swam felt pretty good though. So on w/ the saga...

Transition 1(T1)- another bad news/good news: the bad was that my age group was racked as far from the bike exit & entrance as you could get, the good was that we were as close to run exit as you could get. It was a longish run from the water to the transition area on the grass land side of Pioneer Hall. Dumped the cap and goggles, put sunglasses/helmet/race number belt/bike shoes on and took off for another longish run w/ the bike to the transition exit and then another couple hundred feet to the bike mount line. Overall, a decent transition.

Bike- ahh, the best part of the day. 56 miles in 2:52:09 for a 19.52 mph average. I averaged the same mph for 56 miles here as I did for 24.8 at St Anthony's and with a lower heart rate. The course headed out of Fort Wilderness and off Disney property. We rode out 535(flat and fast) to Winter Garden, rode some rolling hill back roads w/ great scenery of lakes and orange groves in Lake County, and then headed back toward Disney on more flat roads. There were themes to the aid stations and they did a great job. I drank 3 24 oz bottles of Gatorade, ate 2 gels, and took 2 endurolyte capsule. I had to pee for the last 15 miles of the bike so I think I adequately hydrated.

T2- Ran the bike all the way back to my rack. Off w/ the bike shoes and helmet, on w/ the socks/running shoes/running hat and to the porta potties 30 ft from my bike rack. I had to wait for one person then did my business and exited on the run. Best guess is that this added 1-2 minutes to my transition which will be important later that afternoon.

Run- If I ever run a half marathon again in 90+ degree temps(it was 93 in the shade and there was very little shade) it will be too soon. This was the second half Ironman I've done w/ a hot sunny run but at least the last one was in July rather than May when I'd had no heat acclimation. Time was 2:17:47 which was about 10:32/mile. Really struggled w/ the heat and that limited how hard I could push. The legs felt fine but the body/mind said "We're too hot."

Finish time was 5:58:47. Got my medal, tech fabric finisher's Tshirt, nice running cap w/ race logo and finisher and year embroidered, and a decent carry baggie. Took a glass of water and went to find my family. Was disappointed figuring I was totally out of contention for the 70.3 World Championship slot. Took a quick look at the results but they weren't updated yet, grabbed a frozen OJ, and sent the family back to the Lodge on the boat. I cleaned up my transition area and rode my bike back to the Villa. I rinsed myself off at the outside shower and then got in the pool for a few minutes until the family made it back. I then got dressed and we went to 2 pm lunch at Whispering Canyon as I was a bit hungry.

8 blasted seconds!!!
After my sister went to work, mom and I headed back over to the race site for the 4 pm awards ceremony/World Championship slot distribution. I figured I was completely out of it but it wouldn't hurt to be there. So close and yet so far. On an almost 6 hour day, I ended up missing the slot I wanted to the Championship in November in Clearwater by 1 place and 8 seconds. That amount of time could have been picked up on the bike, the second transition w/ the pit stop, moving just a fraction quicker for a short time on the run. Grrrr. Lesson learned- don't count yourself out too early and keep pushing. The day deteriorated on the run so I changed my expectations to just finishing under 6 hours. That gave me the mental space to slack some and I paid for it by missing out on the World Championship slot I wanted. I have one more shot at a slot in August when I do Timberman. That race is 3 weeks prior to my biggest race of the year, Ironman Wisconsin. I won't be in any better shape this year so...

The numbers: I finished 958 out of 1898 finishers, 217 out of 540 women(yes, we were only a little over 1/4 of the field), and 43 out of 115 in my age group. My swim/bike/run ranks were 974/990/956 overall and 52/40/50 in my age group so basically I was pretty consistent although somewhat better on the bike at least when compared to women. My age group had women from 21 states and 7 countries.

I included a lot of detail in this race report to give you'all an idea of what goes into doing something like a half Ironman. A sub 6 hour race is the payoff earned through over 1200 miles of biking, over 350 miles of running and over 110,000 yards of swimming since January. However, it can be finished on much less as I have done before and many people did this time.

Back to lurkdom.

Great job Lynne! :cheer2: :cheer2: I am so sorry about the 8 seconds! You will do it next time!

Love the photos of Howard's marathon! Thanks for posting Cam.

Amy-Hurray for registering for the marathon! I second what Cam said in her post: we are here for each other and we will be there for you at the marathon.

I rode the stationary bike and used the elliptical machine at the gym, then did some WL. Tomorrow is a rest day.

Thanks to Pat for posting the countdowns. DL and WDW will be here before we know it. I personally can't wait to get the castle medal at DL!

Krista- Good to have you back. I am glad you had a great trip.

Minnie- Here is lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: to get well soon. What kind of riding were you doing? Horse? Bike? Motorcycle? :moped: A friend of mine had a collapsed lung recently. She said once they removed the tube, she felt much better and the pain subsided. Hang in there!

Judy- I sure hope you are listening to your Dr. and taking it easy.

Kevin- Glad that you are done traveling and can concentrate more on your WISH friends. ;) We've missed you!

As Lily would say, keep putting in those steps everyone!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

:thanks: Thank you all for the congratulations on my 10K and for signing up for the WDW Full. I still can't believe I signed up, and now the idea of running 26.2 miles is pretty scary. I expect full support from everyone on the team to get me to that starting line.

Krista- Welcome back! I can't wait to see your pictures from WDW, and congratulations on your pain free run. No, the princesses princess: princess: do not know about going to WDW. I haven't told the family I signed up yet. I wanted to put some more runs in to show them I can do it and then I'll break the news. It's not so much the running, but the idea of spending the money on a trip to WDW that is going to take some convincing for my DW. I'm saving my pennies. Although I do have my SIL on board with coming with us and helping to watch the princesses princess: princess: while I run.

Judy- I must have missed your birthday. Belated :bday:

Kevin- glad work is slowing down for you. Good luck with getting back into your training. If you can will yourself to the start line, you can will yourself to the finish line. :thumbsup2 Well said!!!

Dana- Uuugh, it seems like you've been dealing with a lot of illnesses lately in your family. Good luck getting through the strep. Your new house looks beautiful. Congratulations! Also, I've been running straight too, but have been thinking about adding some walking breaks to try to prevent injury. I think Christa does a 10r/1w interval, and I might give that a try too.

Minnie- Collapsed lung!?! :scared1: PD :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for a speedy recovery.
:) Thanks Cam, you're so kind. Yes, getting to and through my 10K is what gave me the courage to sign up for the WDW Full, but that 26.2 mile distance seems loooooooooooong now. Here's some PD for your hip :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:. Good luck with everything you have going on too.

Lynne- Congrats for signing up for the Goofy! I'll be cheering for you in the 1/2 and see you at the start for the Full. BTW, I'm in your neck of the woods right now. Ive been in Portland, ME since Sunday. Wow, it's beautiful here, and the weather's been perfect. We were able to spend a day on an island in Casco Bay yesterday. Sooooo relaxing. Where in Maine are you? I love your report on your TRI in WDW. Sooo sorry about the 8 seconds though.

Howard- Glad you are feeling well post marathon. The pictures of the race look great. Congrats again, and I'm looking forward to meeting you in WDW. I'll be cheering for you in the 1/2 and running with you in the Full.

Christa- I had forgotten that our daughters were exactly the same age DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:. They are going to be sooooo excited when they find out we are going back to WDW. DD5 princess: asks about every week when we can go back. When I mow the yard she asks me to cut a Hidden Mickey pattern into the grass too. We'll have to get our princesses together during the race weekend. I hope you find a way to get your biking in. Can you do loops around the "Y"? Maybe you can ask if you can leave your girls at the Y and go bike if you have a cell phone on you?

Jodi- Just wanted to wish you more luck on your 10K this weekend, Sunday right?

OK, I have to get ready for the day, and get packed to go back to my family this afternoon!!!

I have been totally MIA since the Minnie. I kinda knew this would happen - I would fall off the wagon with nothing to train for!

SO, today is the beginning (again)! I am going to set up a plan - I get nowhere without a schedule of what to do each day.

I am going to go back through this thread and read what you guys have all been up to for inspiration.

AND, I am going to send in a check today for the half. I *need* to do this to get my butt moving again. I need that scared-out-of-my-pants feeling. :teeth: Even though I am planning to train for the DL half (but do the 5k since it's closed), it's not enough. I know in the back of my head that I am really doing 'only' a 5k. I should also call WDW and book a room at POFQ for the races in January.

I also have an appt. with my doc this morning to see if he can re-check my thyroid (I am hypo) and other things while we are at it. I am still pretty bummed about not being able to lose these last pounds to get within WW's healthy range.

So, no more whining from me! Today is a new day! :woohoo:

Now to catch up with everyone this week!

Dave - congratulations on your 10k & signing up for the Full! :cheer2:

GoofyGuy - Glad to hear everything is ok

Christa - I love your pic in your siggie!

Heather - Great job on the Beach to bay Relay! :cheer2:

Rhonda - hope your hearing returns soon :wizard:

Howard - CONGRATULATIONS! :cheer2:

Judy - feel better soon :wizard:

Carrie - I hope things settle down for you really soon

Michael - 33 lbs! WOO HOO!

Terri - you should get a postcard from Disney confirming your registration. Chad got his last week, I think

Krista - great news about not having that knee pain!

Melissa - YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Dana - your house looks gorgeous

Minnie - lots of :wizard: for your collapsed lung!

Cam - :wizard: for your hip

Amy - Congrats on signing up for the full! I am signing up for the half today and I also think I am going to puke! :teeth:

Lynne - loved reading your race report - sorry about those pesky 8 seconds though!

Jodi - I am pretty sure there is a bus from MGM that goes over to WWOS (that's how it was for the Minnie anyway). Maybe during the marathon weekend they have more buses from resorts though. Not sure since we always rent a car, or have our own with us.

Dave and Christa: Too funny...I have two princess: princess: girls as well...ages 8 and 6!!! So now that makes 6 girls VERY close in age LOL!!!! I think there are LOTS of kids here in this running family! How cool. We definitely have to do some sort of family meet for marathon weekend!

Kristi: CONGRATS on signing up for the HALF! :cheer2: Pixie Dust on your dr. appt!!!

Gee, try to work for a day and you guys go possting nuts on me. Plus, I somehow missed a few pages of posts when I posted last time. :guilty:

OK - Here's the best I can do without taking notes:

MelR - Sendin' you All My Lovin'! ;) Seriously, it astonishes me to see you worried about an event, because you and your work outs rock!!!! Get that feather and remeber all the people here that it represents sending you prayers, good thoughts, pixie dust and BELIEVING in you!!! :wizard: Althuogh I don't want you to think about worst case, here it is. You don't finish. Rememerb the equation and remeber those of us here that truley do not have the guts to even think about going to that starting line. You are a champion in our eyes!!! :goodvibes :hippie:

Amy - You know, I know you can do this marathon. I know it's scary, but you are soooo far above where I was this time last year (heck, you're above wher I am now.) You will be just fine!!!

Howard & Cam - Thanks for the pics! COngrats on your run Howard!! Thanks for the good wishes Cam! I'm trying to take care of myself, butu somehow things always backfire.

Judy - :wizard: Hope it's "just" bronchitis. Yikes!! You take care of yourself!!

Sunny - SPeaking of lung ailments...How are you doing? :grouphug:

Kristi - It's so hard when you do not have an event in sight. It's also VERY hard when you are pooped from your last event to get moving again. You know you'll feel better when you do though. :wizard: :grouphug:

Heather - COngrats! Hope you were able to get back on that workout horse! Not easy to start again, but I know you will get back there!

Lynne - COngrats!! You are WAYYYYY too hard on yourself!!!! You cannot have your PR every race, especially when you have so many!!! :goodvibes

Krista - COngrats on the pain free run!! Woo hoo!!! :woohoo:

Solo - Want to go fo ra road trip? ;) (Pretty sure it's closed. I think they only accepted ~1,500 entrants)

Dave - You silly boy. I don't know why people are afraid of the bridge. :teeth: I've been crossing it since I was young and croseeed it at least 8 times a year fro 4 year. Plus, I've been waliking it annually for 12. I'm pretty excited to see it with so few people. (Yes, there are many poeple who are afraid of it, so please don't take offense by my sarcasm. :goodvibes )

Dana - Awesome hoouse!!!! Looking for a house can be so frustrationg. I am so happy for you! :Pinkbounc

goofyguy - Hope everythign wokrs out fo ryou! Glad it's not as serious as it oculd have been!

I should point out that the run is 6 miles, but the bridge is technically only 5 . :teeth: Wouldn't want you to think I exxagerate. ;) It should be at sunrise, so I hope to have some beautiful pics. DH wants a lot of points marked on the Garmin, though, so I don't know hwere I'll find time to run btwn pics and Garmin points. ;) So many toys, so little time. :p

OK, really need to work.

Today is my one-year anniversary on the Wish boards! I signed up for the WDW half on May 24, 2005, not to pat my own back, but look how far I've come. I'm amazed with what my body can do and what it's going to do in the next few months. I'm so glad and thankful that every single one of you is a part of the journey. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Kristi--Today is a new day!!! :wizard: for signing up for the half--you will not regret it. Oh, and there are no "only's" on this board, you aren't doing "only a 5K", you are doing a 5K. Period. It's easy to forget when you are surrounded by athletes how long distances really are, but 3.1 miles is not a walk in the park and most of the people you know cannot do a 5K. Good luck with the doctor today!

Jodi--Yes, there are busses from the resorts to the WWoS marathon weekend. They are the big Greyhound-type busses, not the regular Disney busses.

Amy-- :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: I am so happy for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Somehow we will get through this together! PS--what did you think about AI last night? Personally, I wasn't wowed with either one of them, except for Katherine singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"--that was awesome, but the rest of the songs were just eh in my opinion.

Kevin--Good to have you back!

Minnie-- :wizard: :wizard: I hope you are okay!!!

Cam-- :wizard: on your hip! :wizard: for the next couple of weeks--I think you will need it!

Howard--Great pictures! You look awesome for having just run 26.2 miles, not tired at all.

Lynne--You amaze me. You just amaze me. Be VERY proud of yourself, we are VERY, VERY proud of you!

Dave--Good luck getting DW on board! I'm sure once she sees how hard you've been training and how much you love it, it won't be that difficult of a fight.

I'm at work right now, so I better earn my keep! Talk to everyone later!!

Well, I am back at work today after taking yesterday off to "rest", which I did none of. I putzed around the house all day so after a while I said if I'm not going to lay down I might as well get on the TM. Which I did. And I actually had a fabulous, very strong workout. Of course it didn't hurt that I was watching the History Channel DVD about WDW. 50 minutes went by in a flash! Gosh that is a great DVD. Anyway I even did five minutes of running and didn't hack up a lung. (Sorry for the visual there but all I've done lately is cough cough cough.) One of my tests came back and it looks like I "just" have bronchitis. Which I guess is good. Better then pneumonia I suppose.

I went to the library last night to drop some books off and I drove right over the start and finish lines for my race on Monday. It was a little thing, but gosh it was exciting to see them! Can you tell this is my first event?!?!?

Thank you all so much for the birthday and get well wishes. You guys are really a great bunch of friends, even if I haven't yet met any of you. Seems that doesn't matter around here. You're all still so sweet and thoughtful. :p

Krista - Hey, I'm really glad to hear you had no knee pain during your run. That is so fabulous! :thumbsup2

Kevin - Oh I'm glad your back in "the land of the living". :wave2: I miss you when you are MIA.

Dana - Your new house looks great! :bounce: What a wonderful back yard! Oh new is so nice, isn't it?? Keep them pics coming!

Minnie - How are you today??? :grouphug:

Cam - Oh my you have a full plate! Try to carve out some "Cam time". I think you'll need it! :goodvibes

Amy - Whooo hoooo! :cheer2: I'm so proud of you for registering! Doesn't it feel GREAT!?!?! When I registered - I swear I must have been one of the first I was so determined to do this - my head was spinning for hours afterwards. I just kept saying to myself "OMG I DID it. I DID IT!" I was crazy and excited and, well, kinda proud all at the same time.

Howard - Wow, great pics! How very exciting. :yay: (Note to Cam: Ohhh, Howard's a Stud Muffin! You lucky girl! :teeth: )

Lynne - Thanks for the race report. :thumbsup2 I live vicariously thru other people's reports. Sorry those eight seconds are bugging you. And hey, don't go back to lurkdom! We WANT you here!

Kristi - Like we said to Amy.....TODAY is the day to register. :rolleyes1

OK now that I have done the important things first, let me see what I missed at work yesterday. :surfweb:

MelR-- The feather is light, but it may add wind resistence. You may need to shave your eye brows to compensate :lmao: :rotfl2:

Krista-- I'm so glad you can run w/o pain now! :cheer2: Happy Anniversary!

Amy-- You're official :cheer2:  This is getting sooooo exciting! One by one everyone is making it official!!!!!

Judy-- glad to hear you "just have bronchitis"!!!! But still be careful. I think what happened to me is that I had a bad cold and I kept pushing my lungs to the limit and they just gave into the pneumonia (yes, I am exposing my total lack of medical knowledge here).

Today is an anniversary of sorts for me, too. To day is the annual 5K fun run at my work. Last year's was my first race EVER. So I've been quite bummed about missing this one...

I signed up yesterday :teeth: I'm going to wog it carefully. I really do feel 90% at this point so I don't think I can do any damage, I just can't do any speed either. I'll be heading over to the gym to change in a couple of minutes :Pinkbounc

I'll be back in a few to tell you how it went :)

Sunny: Good luck w/ that 5K. And I do hope you take your own advice and take it really easy!!!! PD :wizard:

Judy: You are amazing! Still working out and being that sick! You wild woman!!!!! Seriously though....please don't push it too hard. No relapses allowed for you and Sunny!!!!

Carrie: Reading your post before gave me goose bumps, just hearing from you that I can do this means so very much to me. I don't know if people realize it but YOU in particular and Mel (Chimera) are THE REASON I even considered this journey. Then when I came here to WISH to read all these other wonderful stories....like my hero Cam...it sealed the deal! But truly each and every one of you have inspired me more than you know. :grouphug: (sniff sniff). I'm SOOOO scared but it is SOOOO helpful to know that there is this wonderful group here that supports us and carries us through the tough days!

 Careful Amy, I'll get a big head. ;)

like my hero Cam...

Just had to emphasize that one! I recall a time last year when Cam was really doubting herself. See this thread Musings of a Wanna Be Half Marathon Jogger (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=831915&page=1&pp=15) Now she's a hero. Then again, I thought she was a hero last year for what she had already accomplished). Anyway, I wanted to point out to those of you who have never done a marathon before, that all of your doubts are prefectly ok and totally normal. If you stick with your plan, though, you will make it!!! Look at Cam! She did the half with time to spare, she did the Minnie, has sigend up for DL and is signed up for the full in January!!!!

PS - Cam, I hope you don't mind me dragging this up, but I am hoping that it will help some of the current strugglers. :grouphug:

Thank you so much, guys. It is amazing how you all bolster my spirits before I've even let on to anyone that I am discouraged. Carrie, it did me a lot of good to go back and read that thread. So much of what I said in that opening post is still true. I am just not a runner. I don't anticipate becoming a runner any time soon. But I do intend to continue to strive to improve what I am doing.

It's amazing how finishing an event, any event, helps us over the mental hurdles. To this day, I will tell anyone who asks -- The half marathon is the first goal I have strived for in my life where I didn't think I would make it. Never before have I undertaken any task that I did not expect to succeed at. Not college, not law school, not 3 Bar exams. Nothing. But last year, my WISH acquaintances gave me the courage to register for the half. Very quickly those very same people became friends, and very unique friends at that. The kind of friends who encourage you and support you and hold you up when you'd rather sit down (on a couch, that is!). I have always believed that my WISH friends brought me to the start and got me to the finish. For that I am eternally grateful. IRL, I know 2 marathoners -- DH and his friend who helped him Sunday. I know no 1/2 marathoners IRL. Not too shabby to look around a room and realize I undertook to accomplish and did accomplish something that none of them have (yet?). The fact that I walked it does not diminish the accomplishment.

Okay, I've gone on and on again. Can I just tell you all again how joyful my heart is when I think of all of you? Can I just tell you again how much you get me through every training session and every event? Can I tell you again how incredibly proud I am of each person here who has undertaken to bring themselves to the start? That, my friends, is courage. I read somewhere recently that courage isn't not being afraid, but feeling fear and doing what you have to anyway. Some people might think it is trite. And I am sure that there are millions of people who have faced all sorts of bigger challenges, but that doesn't make ours smaller.

Judy - Working out with bronchitis (sp?)...Maybe you are the Evil Queen and not me! :lmao: Please don't take my title! Sending tons of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for you race! That is so exciting!

Sunny - Glad you are feeling better...Let us know how that "race" went...you better not be pushing it!

Cam - You are my hero too! Glad I have gotten to know you!

Melissa - Once again, I agree with Sunny...Those eyebrows have got to come off if do the feather thing! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Krista - I am so glad you are not having knee pain anymore.. :wizard: :wizard: to your knee so it will stay healthy!

Dave and Amy - Love the princess: princess:

Everyone who hase signed up for the 1/2 or full and this is the 1st time you have run that far! I remember feeling like I was going to throw up after commiting to the full (my 1st)! If I can do it anyone can! I am so happy for you guys and gals! :cheer2: :cheer2:
Now some bad news....Wah Wah! I may not be running WDW this year! OK I said it! DH is not interested and we may not have the $$$. If not, I will be running some local marathons and Myrtle Beach....I am trying to stay positive, I never have ran MB b/c it is so close to WDW so it will be fun!
However, if I can get his brother to run it, we may go ...let me see if I can work some magic :wizard:

I biked 73 min today then "ran" a mile. I say "ran" b/c I let DD8 run with me and she did not last too long so we walked most of it. I have told her that if she starts "training" we could do a 5k together. She really wants to..so we "run" together and talk. :cloud9:

Oh, Christa, you are telling my story....double Wah Wah! DH just doesn't want to do Disney again either. I am trying to work on a friend to go with me (to help share expenses). I have some serious negotiating to do in the next few months. It is going to kill me not to do Disney. Here I was contemplating whether I should go Goofy or try to better my full marathon time and now I am not sure if I will even go.

On another note, I went to see a podiatrist today because I have "hammer toe" syndome. Basically, I curl my toes when I run and therefore with every step bang the tips of toe 2 and 3 on impact. I lost the 2nd toenail on both feet after Disney and now that I am getting my mileage up, the problem is reoccuring. Anyway, he is recommending custom orthotics. I am getting fitted for them on Friday. :thumbsup2

I am a happy girl. I am hoping this will help my IT Band problems as well.

Hi  , thanks again to everyone for the congratulations, ^5's and smiles. I even got a "Stud Muffin" comment  :thanks: Hunniebee

I wanted to show some Marathon specifics to show how much of an accomplishment we are undertaking and have taken on personally through our desire to be fit, have fun and improve our lives.

Marathon = 26.2 miles
26.2 miles = 46,112 yards
46,112 yards = 138,336 feet

Given an estimate of 2.5 feet per stride, an average person would generate 55,334 foot strikes during a Marathon.

A full or Half-Marathon is a Hurculean task and one that is formidable... trust me I know.

Congratulations to everyone who's decided to take on a half or full marathon, 15K, 10K, 5K or 1 Mile. You Rock! :woohoo:

Thanks again for your comments... no wonder Cam lives here. You are all wonderful.

Hello!

My 5K went very well. I ran for the first 2 miles (18 min) then walked almost the rest. I finished 30:32 which was much better than I expected. I didn't turn blue and I feel fine now. I even went to the Y while DS was at a b-day party. I did the stair mill and a tiny bit of weights.

I have another problem now. Actually, I've had it for weeks and weeks but it flared much worse since the p. It's tendenitis (I think) in my left elbow. I can't pick up a coffee mug without pain, or even open a door. So I'm baby-ing it for a few days before I do the dreaded call the dr. thing.

Dr. Lynn and Dr. Mel: could pneumonia make a mild case of tendenitis (sp?) much worse? Could there be a correlation?

On another note, I went to see a podiatrist today because I have "hammer toe" syndome. Basically, I curl my toes when I run and therefore with every step bang the tips of toe 2 and 3 on impact. Now onto the other topic. This is just too funny. I realized the other day in the bathtub that I no longer have "runner's toe", my toe nail is both intact and white/pink like a normal toe. I thought I'd post my woes and then recalled Colleen's genuine concern when her toe went black. And voila! Colleen posted about the very same thing!

For me, there's no pain so I don't worry about it. I just expect the nail to be missing or black at all times. Does this mean I'm no longer a runner :sad2: I better go bang that toe with a hammer :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

But seriously, Colleen, I hope the orthotics work for you.

MelR-- I'm glad I could be of some assistance. Sounds like your losing weight left and right :rotfl2: Recall the newspaper photographer that cut off your head? That might save on weight and take away the fear all at the same time, never limit your options :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Speaking of Cam as hero. I had intended to add in my last little pep talk to Judy that on the way home from my apt with Dumb-dumb with tears streaming down my face I said out loud in my car "If Cam can do it, so can I"

I've told so many people about your story, Cam. And remember JB? He thinks your a hero, too!

My first race ever was March 7, 2005. It was a one-mile fun run on Siesta Key beach and I finished in 16:20.

Now...15 months later...I have these:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/data/500/77486PICT0089-med.JPG

I agree with Carrie...after reading all that MelR and Sunny have accomplished, it still amazes me to see MelR having doubts about a race and that Sunny's only been doing this for a year.

When I started training, I was just hoping to beat the sweepers and get the Donald. I don't think I really believed I would finish in time until I completed my 12 mile LR. And if I remember correctly, no one from the 2006 WISH team got swept.

I just think it's really cool that we all have each other to learn from and go to when we start to feel those self-doubts. I sometimes wonder if we were a 'real-life' club, would we feel so comfortable being so candid in person?

I also know that I'll always feel a slightly special bond with those that came in with me, particularly those who were also doing this for the first time. I think it's kinda neat that the 2007 'class' is bonding a bit amongst themselves too. I am a bit sad that I don't have as much time on the boards as I did this time last year. I really think I'm missing out on getting to know everyone better this year.

So I think we'll all finish...I think we all have it in us to finish anything we start because we've come this far and we have each other when things get rough. Just gotta grab that feather and believe!

Are you taking Levaquin or any of its relatives (Cipro, Tequin, anything thats generic name ends in floxacin?) for the pneumonia? There's a fairly rare side effect in that class of drugs that leads to tendon rupture. If you're on or have taken one of those to treat your pneumonia, you'll need to rest (NO workouts!) until you get that elbow looked at.

My oh my - LOTS to catch up on today!!

MelR - your pictures were too funny. No eyebrow shaving necessary for you!

Sunny - congrats on finishing the 5K with a faster time than you expected. Please don't consider that a reason to forego further recovery though - pneumonia is nothing to fool around with!

Judy - glad you don't have pneumonia and that you are feeling well enough to put in a good w/o on the TM. But once again, don't overdo it and you'll be 100% before you know it.

Mel/Chimera - LOVED your post. Even though I am mostly comfortable as a lurker and therefore don't "know" everyone as well as many of you do, I have always enjoyed reading your posts and following your progress. Having the chance to meet you at 2 events now has been a real privilege.

Aladdinsgirl - congrats on your 1 year WISH anniversary. Glad it has been such a great year for you!

Dave - so happy you have finally decided and registered for the full. You won't regret it and I am sure your family will come around to the idea once they have a chance to take it all in. My dh was definitely skeptical when I first brought up the idea last year but he came around once he saw that I was truly committed to the race.

Kristi - glad you signed up for the DL half. What a wonderful opportunity to be a part of an inaugural race and to work on behalf of a charity as well. Kudos to you!

Christa - I sure hope you can find a way to make it back to WDW in 07. I would really like to see you there as I am sure many others would!! BTW, you do look so very fit in your pictures :)

Goofyguy - I am so glad to hear that your health scare turned out to be not-so-scary. Hope the pain improves soon and doesn't set your training back.

Monte - a chat time sounds fun. I used to do the weekly DVC and/or DCL chats but haven't in a long time. Anyone else up for a chat?

Heather - your beach relay sounds hard but fun. Maybe someday I'll have to make it down from Dallas for that race!

Carrie - good luck and pixie dust on your bridge race this weekend. I am not too fond of high or long bridges so this would probably not be on my list of "races to do" but I hope it is a fun race for you!!

Michael - Welcome and congrats on such a great job on WW. Wishing you continued success and stick around - we can always use a new member of our group.

Kevin - I hope that migraine no longer has you sidelined. I know they can really wreak havoc on one's life so I hope things are back to normal for you now.

Dana - beautiful home and great HUGE backyard. It looks like a wonderful place to live and I hope you are very happy there.

Minnie - major pixie dust that your lung is feeling much improved very quickly. Just like Sunny & Judy, please take it easy though and don't rush back too soon.

Lynne - What an amazing tri!! I am continually impressed by the accomplishments you fit into each and every day. I know you were disappointed by the 8 second differential and I would have felt the same but I hope you can move past it enough to bask a bit in the glow of such an awesome achievement. It was such a pleasure to visit with you and your mom and your sister again during Minnie weekend!!

Cam - my friend and race buddy - you of course remain my greatest source of inspiration and motivation. Without you by my side, literally and figuratively, I don't know if I could have finished the half or the Minnie. This group really was the driving force behind getting me to register, to continue training especially during the tough times, and to showing up at the finish line. But you were the one beside me through every step and I'll always be grateful for that!!!!

So, I am still without all of my hearing on the right side and getting mighty tired of it. I have tried two kind of decongestants as well as an antibiotic and still nothing. Time to call the doctor yet again and see what else he has to offer.

Anyone see the promo for the new Nike+/Ipod attachment coming out in July? You put the sensor in your shoe and it transmits information wirelessly to your Ipod with speed, distance, calories etc. You can also see graphs/reports on your performance and program certain music for your run based on speed etc. Anyway, it is only $30 but for now only Nike has compatible shoes (about $100). I am hoping someone else will come up with compatible shoes as it sounds like a really cool gadget!! Check it out on nike.com/nikeplus

I posted on the DIS meets for WDW weekend thread about doing an Illuminations Dessert party. If anyone is interested in participating in January, let me know and we'll see if we can get something set up.

I just found out that dh and I may not be able to make the DIS meet on Friday night of marathon weekend. My sister has decided to get married on 1/5 and although it will be a small ceremony early in the day I doubt we'll be able to make to a 4 o'clock meeting :(

Hope everyone has a great week and holiday weekend!

Yes! I'm taking Levaquin, tomorrow's my last dose. Will it go away after the drugs are done?

Thank you so much for enlightening me.

Also, Your wonderful post with the medals got sandwiched in with my three-fer, I didn't see it earlier-- AWSOME! I think we should collect these inspirational posts for when the days get dark... as we know they will.

I totally agree with the bonding and WISHing I had more time to read the threads thoroughly each day.

MelR-- you are too funny!

Speedy-- do you have a script for migraines? I used to literally lose 5-7 days per month to migraines. I take Zomig, just 2.5 mg when I feel one coming on and its blasted away. There's a lousy tired, tight neck/shoulders phase while it kicks in, but it is worth it IMHO.

I'm feeling terrible now. I hope I recover (again) in time for DS's field trip on Friday. It's my first ever (and last K opp) to chaperone. Its a nature hike-- I have been so looking forward to it and now I feel like crap. I know its my own fault :furious:

Judy, I can be your poster child for "don't push until you're better", at least I can talk the talk...

In researching my other long-standing pain (sciatia?--tight pull/pain in the right glute, when its really bad I can't bend my neck forward) I came across this site which seems quite helpful:

http://www.theosteopath.net/Marathon%20Running.html

What I liked that I read was the emphasis on quality running not quantity. As many aches and pains as I seem to have being just one year older, I think I better learn how to make my runs quality!

Anyone have any great advice for a pain in the butt (no I wasn't referring to myself, but my actual BUTT pain) :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I also found this site and learned a new word: Piriformis

Krista and Kevin - yep, I'm going Goofy again. Got my confirmation postcard in the mail yesterday. :)

Minnie and Sunny - :wizard: :wizard: Hope you two are feeling better.

Judy - Happy belated birthday and hope you're feeling better, too!

Howard - looking good in those photos! :thumbsup2

CAm - Thanks! I really wanted to quit several times during the marathon. But I wanted those medals more :teeth: Since my time was 8 minutes over the marathon limit, I didn't get the Mickey or Goofy certificates (only got the Donald). So I gotta do Goofy this year to get the certificates. The things we'll do for paper or metal

Dana - Before this year's Goofy, my longest training run was 13 miles. I probably wasn't really prepared for a full marathon, but I really wanted those medals. I talked my way through the last part of the race.
As far as walk/run ratios, I always have a problem with them on my training runs. I find that I'm constantly looking at my watch to see when I should switch from the walk to the run and vice versa. It became very distracting. So now I run until I feel really winded, then I walk. When my breathing returns to normal, I run again. So far it seems to work for me.

Lynne - Congrats on the 1/2 IM. Bummer about the 8 seconds :sad2:
Your report brought back memories. I did that race in 2004. It was my 1st EVER triathlon (nothing like starting out big  ). Unfortunately, I DNF'd. Those rolling hills did me in (who knew there were hills in Florida
:confused3 ). I dropped out on those hills. I had major cramps in my calves.
They said I probably over-hydrated and didn't have enough salt in my system.
I loved that race, though, and want to try it again. Hope to be better prepared the next time.

Darn! I just reread your reply and you said I should have it looked at. The problem is I can't get to my dr. I like my dr quite well, but she's hidden behind this massive machinery called Lahey Clinic.

RANT MODE ON.
When I called a week ago Friday to say I hade a really high fever, passed out and couldn't walk across the room... NO ONE CALLED ME BACK. I had to go to the ER. Then, 5 days later when I called (calling means going through a 3 layer menu and leaving voice mail and then sitting by your phone for 1-3 hours waiting for a return call). After I left three voice mails, 4 hours later I finally got a response and they told me they called in my cough syrup. Guess what? They didn't.

I'm still so mad I can't bring myself to call that stupid office again. I don't fault the people, its the system.

So why do I stay? For one, almost every dr I've had since I was 20 yo has been sucked up by Lahey Clinic. 2) I'm not sure there's any better practice ccovered by my HMO :furious: :furious: :furious:

And I'm really mad at myself for just taking it. If this had happened to one of my kids when they were sick I would be in someone's face (or a whole lot of someones) but when it happens to me I just sulk and be bitter. :confused3

So I really hope I don't have to call that office and leave my DOB, PCP, reason for callling, phone to be reached at and then feel like I don't dare go to the bathroom for the next 4 hours.

OK, RANT MODE OFF.

Sorry, you're the only one's that had to endure that. So to whom do I pay my copay to for this session ;)

But I wanted those medals more :teeth: Since my time was 8 minutes over the marathon limit, I didn't get the Mickey or Goofy certificates (only got the Donald). So I gotta do Goofy this year to get the certificates. The things we'll do for paper or metal

Terri

Terri, I didn't realize you were robbed of your medals for 8 lousy minutes. I'm so sorry to hear that. But its really amazing you were able to complete Goofy with a max. LR of 13 miles. Imagine what you'll do this year!!!!!

Well you "greatly trumped" my first tri, I DNS for mine. Hey, everyone needs at least one DNS, one DNF and one DLF attached to their name, right?

Sunny

It's midnight and I'm still up. I swear I need a mother to discipline me. In fact, one day when my DD was complaining of the lack of food in the house and the lack of real dinners while I've been working mega hours, I responded, "ya, we need a mother" :rotfl2:

Sunny,

I got the medals at the finish line :) . But when they sent out the finisher certificates, I only got the Donald Duck one for finishing the half. No Mickey or Goofy :guilty:

I want the certificates, too! So I'll be back at it again in 07!

Colleen - I think I am going to have the same hammer toe problems. My 2nd toe on each foot "curls" a bit. They hurt for days after the Minnie 15k. I didn't loose ay toenails though!

MelR - love your pics! :lmao:

Rhonda - have you seen an ENT doc? Or just your primary? I had (and am still having) problems with my ears. Every now & then I get what I call a dizzy spell. I almost pass out, as this happens, my left ear blocks. Then when I get to the point where I am think this is it, I am passing out - my ear opens and I get better. Weird. Anyway, for a whole year, my primary just kept telling me to take my Allegra D. I finally convinced them to do tests & let me see an EMT. First thing the awesome EMT doc said was that the Allegra was not going to help this problem!

Also, I did hear about those shoes - we did the story here at work yesterday. I was wondering how long it would be before yuo guys were talking about them, and buying them!

Sunny - feel better & take it easy!
I agree with your rant about doctors. And don't even get me started on the world-renowned Lahey Clinic! :furious:

Terri - You will do it this year!

Cam - I would have seen you in CA anyway. Chad was already registered for the 1/2. I didn't register earlier since I wanted to see how I did at the Minnie. Once we got back, DL was already closed for some time. I just figured since I was going to be there, I should see if I could get in through a charity or something. And I was already signed up for the 5k - so I guess I am doing both!

I am having a slight panic attack. Now that I signed up for the DL under a charity, I have to raise money! I hate asking for donations for anything. Ugh!

I did do my 3 mile DVD yesterday. I am going to try to fit in something today before Chad heads to work and I am on solo toddler-duty.

Melissa - Quick question! Are you going Goofy this year? Love the pics! :rotfl:

I have thought about the girls weekend. That is a great idea. I need to see if my sis wants to run too. She is always up to getting away from her kids. :lmao: Now I just have to get DH to buy into it...no pun intended! If it works, I will need to figure out if I will do Goofy or not. I like walking around with the Goofy around my neck! :teeth:

Michael - Welcome and congrats on such a great job on WW. Wishing you continued success and stick around - we can always use a new member of our group.

Thanks for the welcome and the encouragement! I needed it today. I'm actually taking a day off from the track, but I'm not happy about it. :sad1: The extra distance combined with pushing myself a little too hard has brought back some knee problems. Nothing too major, really just some pain right where my patella connects with the inner part of my kneecap. It's more like a high shin splint. Anyway, a little rest, some ice, and some quad exercises today, and I'll be back tomorrow to try and improve my 4 mile time (I have a 4 mile race in a couple of weeks).

And thanks for all the encouragement for my WW success. It's been really great and I feel so much better minus 33 pounds. To reach my goal, I need to lose about 20 more, WHICH I KNOW I CAN DO!!! The walking/jogging has really helped to take it off!

Anyway, thanks to everyone for your encouragement and support. I love this place! And to all of you with recent "issues" to deal with, remember, if it don't kill you, it makes you stronger! :thumbsup2

Kristi - Way to go on gettign in the game again!!

MelR - You crack me up!!!!

Sunny - Please take care of that elbow! Your doc's system stinks, but it sounds like you could do big damage. I believe Mel said NO workouts. Time to walk the walk. ;) :goodvibes Just afraid something might happen to you and Lynne would be the only one left here in MelR's league. ;) (Although, I must say I'm very roud of you fro actually walking some of your 5k)

Mel - You may not spend quite as much time here, but you get us going every week! I can't believe it's been a year since your first race! I remember that well! You are right up ther ewith Cam for hero-ness!

Rhonda - There have been such nasty, head-plugging things going around. Mine was not that bad, but still driving me loopy!!! :wizard: That you feel better soon! I'm considering that Illuminations Dessert evet, but it depends on if I get an Illuminations Cruise.

Terri - 07 is your year to get it all!!!

Girls weekend sounds so fun, but no way would dh let me go to WDW without him. (Maybe for Minnie wekend, but htat's even pushing it)

Feeling myself fo rthe first time in a long time. Have 30 minutes tonight and then nothing until race time. On the birght side, after the first 2.5 miles, it's all down hill from there! :teeth:

Michael.....hope your knee feels better!!! Definitely wise to rest it today. I'm sure you'll be back in no time. And a belated congrats on signing up for the Half!!! :cheer2:

Rhonda....Pixie Dust for the ear problem :(. :wizard:

Sunny!!!! TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF! As for the pain in the butt....TMI ALERT have you tried massaging your butt by rolling on a tennis ball or something like that? They even make a special "rolling ball" that is designed just for that purpose. When my lower back, butt or sciatica acts up, which it does at times, I usually try this b/c my glutes get VERY tight and cause pressure from lower back on down. You basically just put all your weight on the ball and roll on it. LOL...sounds funny, but it does work. And it DOES hurt...but you should feel the muscle begin to release. Here's a link to one company that sells them Massage Ball (http://www.tpmassageball.com/tpmassageballpictures.php)

So I've been invited by some friends to run an 8 miler around a lake tomorrow. I am really not ready to run 8, my LR this weekend was supposed to be 7 miles. So my thoughts are that I can switch my LR to tomorrow....run 7....then cool-down with a final 1 mile walk! They are all fast...although they told me that they were going to "take it slow and run 10 minute miles". LOL! :rotfl2: :rotfl: . Sure guys....yeah...that's slow for me NOT!!!!! So while I may start with them....I'm sure by mile 4 they'll move ahead! If I do my LR on Friday, then I can do a gentle run on Sunday instead which works out better b/c we will be doing the big family wedding weekend...which means I'll probably have some wine LOL! Long Runs and Wine aren't generally the best combo!!!

Hello everybody!! :wave2: Guess what, I ran 2 miles last night and NO pain!! :yay: :yay: I did 2r/2w again--running at 11:32 and walking at 13:38, pretty slow, but I'm not taking any chances this time. I walked a half mile before I ran the 2, I was planning on walking a half mile after I ran, to make it 3 miles, but American Idol came on. A girl has to have her priorities! :teeth:

Melissa--You are so funny!!! I love the new look. So pretty! :p

Kristi--YAY!! You are doing DL 1/2!! That's awesome. I really wish we could run that, but I ran out of vacation days. How did your dr. appt go?

Sunny--Good job slowing down for the 5k! :woohoo: And :wizard: on the whole HMO frustrations, what a headache.

Christa, Colleen, and Melissa--You girls definitely need to do a princess: weekend for the marathon! We need you there!!!

Christa--How is Bree doing? When is she due?

Carrie and Jodi-- :wizard: for your races this weekend!! I need to start looking for some 5k's and 10k's to run--it's that time of year!

Mel--Awesome post!

Kristi – congrats on singing up with the charity for the DL ½. I did the WDW full in January with the Leukemia and Lymphoma society and was absolutely petrified of the fund raising but with a lot of perseverance I actually blew by my goal and ended up raising over $5,300. Good luck!

Howard – Congrats on the marathon! Now rest and start getting ready for WDW. See you there.

Sunny – you need to stop, smell the flowers and take care of your health – NOW – before you think of anything else. I know how hard this is to do but if you don’t you are only going to delay healing. Sending PD your way.

Akasleepingbeauty – thanks for the well wishes. I have actually continued running throughout the entire ordeal and this has helped. The pain is always there but is much worse when I have to lift my arms – the docs response to that (a rim shot here) “Don’t do that then.” Have you tried Gingko for the ear? I have a slight hearing loss – too many loud concerts in the 70’s – and now have tinnitus all the time but the Gingko (recommended by my ENT) has really helped reduce it. Just a thought.

Dana – God luck on the house it looks fabulous!

Minnie – is the chest tube out yet? I have had to remove hundreds of those and every patient has stated how much more comfortable they were after the tube was out. Sending PD that you feel better soon.

Lynne – awesome job on the tri!

Terri – congratulations on going for the Goofy. I am nervous but the more I train and the more I talk about the more excited I am getting. I actually do not question my ability to finish it justquestion how long it is going to take me.

Michael – having taken off 50 pounds 17 years ago (wow, it has been that long) and kept it off with exercise and a reasonable diet I can relate and support your efforts. Stay active and ask for support at every turn, we are all here for you. Congratulations and great effort. Take care of that knee.

Now for my training: somebody has to hit me on the head. I keep going out for a nice relaxed run and ending up running a race. Last night I went out with the running club hoping to get in 5 or 6 miles at an easy pace and ended up doing 6.2 – a full 10K – in 46:50. Now that is a bit off my last 10k race – 44:10 – but still way too fast for a nice easy training run. The good thing is that I felt really strong throughout the entire run. Today is a weights only day so the legs can rest. Have an awesome day everyone.

I better decide soon because the Goofy is over 70% full. Check this out from the Disney site.

As of now, Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge registration has reached 70% of capacity. Once the 3,000 spots have been filled, Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge will be closed. We will communicate that registration has reached capacity through updates on www.disneyworldmarathon.com . After the "registration has reached capacity" message has been posted on the website, Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge will no longer be accepting registrations. Even if you register for both races after the spots are filled, you will not be considered a part of Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge and will not receive a Goofy Medal.

Carrie, you are so lucky your DH loves Disney too! I was trying to convince DH to run Disney too, but he is just not interested.

Terri, you did receive your goofy and mickey medals, but not certificates, correct?

Sunny, I have piriformis pain too. I really have to stretch and stretch (easier said than done). That with my ITB are still giving me problems.

Mel, Love your motivational post. Your hardware looks great! :cheer2:

Amy, listen you you. 7-8 miles. That is so awesome! In a few months that will be a stroll in the park...you will be saying "I only have a 7 mile run today".

Minnie, I hope you are feeling better. I am thinking about you.

Krista, that is so great you don't have any pain. :bounce: I am hoping with my orthotics I will get to that stage.

Off for some speed work.

How did your dr. appt go?

Thanks for asking! As well as I expected, I suppose.

I got a 10 min. lecture about how exercise does not help you lose weight, only maintain. That you must take in less calories, blah, blah, blah.  He knows I have been doing WW for 1-2 years now. I am at the lowest pts. per day they allow. He then mentioned that meal replacements/liquid diets work really well. Huh??? At the end he kind of said in passing that if he suspected something, like a thyroid issue, he would test me for it. HELLO?! You have been my primary for over 10 years and I am hypothyroid!!! So, I said something to the effect of, "I actually am hypo..." So, he is re-checking that, along with sugar and cholesterol (because I asked for those again - they were off last spring).

Another thing: as I was leaving I asked him if I should be fasting for these tests (he didn't mention it, and I knew I had to for a blood sugar). He said no first, then said it wouldn't hurt and I might as well.

Long story short - we'll see what happens when the results come in.

Kristi - I have always nbeen told at least 10, but preferabley 12-hour fast for those tests. Not overly impressed with your doc. Do you have a friend with one that actually pays attention that you could try?

If you're on ww's lowest points and exercising, there is somethign wrong. I cannot believe anyone would recommend a liquid diet that does not seem healthy to me! :wizard:

Carrie - I know, I totally agree. I had been lazy about changing doctors. it's just such a huge ordeal since I have a few chronic conditions, specialists, etc. But, I did finally make an appt. for a physical with a new doctor - but that appt. is not until July. Hopefully, he will be better. The new doc's wife is our son's pediatrician and I cannot explain how good she is & how much we love her! I wish we could just go to her. So, I am hoping her hubby is half as good.

Thanks MelR for the photos! That really brightened my day! I can always count on my WISH friends to bring me out of a funk. I am so overwhelmed with work right now, and it keeps piling on. Today I have the tough  job of playing in the firm's golf tournament with clients. This will be a great way to spend the day, but it just means more work that is not getting done. I am continuing to do well on WW and am cheat free. I have lost 3 pounds since Monday. I am going to pack some snacks to eat at the golf course so that I won't be tempted by the chips and candy bars that the snack cart has to offer. I finally feel like I have some control again. It is a great feeling. :goodvibes

Hi WISH team!

I have my computer back and have started physical therapy for my hip pain. Only walking for me at this point. I am training for Chicago Distance classic currently. I am keeping things really slow so that I don't irritate the hip. Aiming for 17-19 min miles until physical therapy says that I can speed it up a bit. CDC only requires an 18 min/pace so I am not to worried.

Too many posts to go back and read this week, but now that I have a computer again, hopefully I will be able to keep up again.

Oh! I bought a stroller conversion kit for my bike trailer so that I can take my kids when I am walking! So no more excuses. He He! Now I will be held accountable by all of you!

Good morning all! :sunny: Today is a much better day! :thumbsup2 I could tell I was feeling better because on the way to work I thought "Hey! I'm singing!", which I have not been able to do since I got bronchitis. Nothing like belting out a couple of good Blake Shelton tunes on the way to work! I'm so happy to be feeling human again!

I have a question for all my professional walker WISH buddies......Monday I am doing a 4.3K "Fitness Walk". Well, they can call it what they want but for me it's a practice run for January. Anyway, 4.3K is only 2.67 miles, and I have been doing 3 miles @ 1% five days a week on the TM. I trained this morning, I plan on training tomorrow and Saturday morning but taking Sunday as a rest day. I really didn't think I needed to taper for this minuscule event. Right? Plus I am drinking drinking drinking so I am fully hydrated. What else should I do? Or not do? I know this might be ridiculous for such a tiny event but remember I am practicing for the "big time". :rolleyes1

Sunny, Carrie, Amy - Thank you for all your kind words and good advice. :goodvibes I am feeling much better thanks to better living thru pharmaceuticals. The antibiotics are really doing their thing!

Cam - You are so incredibly inspiring. :dumbo: I can honestly say with all my heart that I would not be training and doing local events and planning on "the Big One" in January if it wasn't for you. Thank you so much. Really.

Christa - You will always be The Evil Queen to me. :teeth: I wouldn't even dream of taking your title! I am soooo sad you aren't coming to WDW. DH and I are staying at POR and you can stay with us if that will help. I mean it!

Colleen - I too have hammer toes on each feet. And lovely bunions. My feet do NOT see sunshine. :sad2: No, no, waaaay too ugly. I had surgery on my left foot twice. Once for the bunion and once for the hammer toe. It's only a matter of time before the right one is ready. The surgery wasn't bad, it was the walking around in the surgical shoe for weeks afterwards that was a pain. But I'm so glad I did it! But hopefully the orthodics will work for you. I had them made but I can not stand them. So I don't use them. BTW these funky feet of mine were self-inflicted. Too many years of 3" stiletto heels eight hours a day.

Kristi - Whoo hoo! :cheer2: DL! Way to go! I too am not overly impressed with your doctor.

Howard - OMG those stats! Wow! :faint: Now even I'm impressed with what I'm doing! And no blushing about the comment...it's true! :teeth:

Sunny - Oh I'm glad you're feeling better. And I REALLY REALLY appreciate your "pep talk". You are so inspiring and I admire you so much. Plus I learn so much from you. Thank you very much for being there when I really needed it. :goodvibes Wait. I just read Mel's posts - You've only been doing this one year!?!?! That's AMAZING!!! :worship: You are my Poster Child for inspiration! Oh Sunny, that really stinks about your doctor. There's got to be a better way.

Monte - Uhhh, they have chat rooms here? Guess I should look around the Dis more...

Mel - OMG! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Amy - I'd like to see a demo of that butt ball rolling please. :rolleyes1 :lmao:

Maggie - Yay! :wave2: There you are!

Judy, I've only been racing for one year, but I've been a gym rat for years. :)

Kristi-- I can totally relate to the switchig drs ordeal. If I go to my HMO website and look for new doctors, dozens and dozens come up, but they really are all part of just a few practices. Once you sign on with a practice you pretty much have to see who ever is available. The last four times I've seen my doctor she muses over my chart a minute and say, "wow, you've lost a lot of weight recently!". She clearly doesn't remember anything from one visit ot the next.

Personally, I find it very scarey. In my line of work, you obsess over a problem, walk away from it and let it germinate and then the answers come. They have no time to obsess, walk away and return. Its a 2 minute look at the chart and on the fly answers.

Speaking of which, I made the dreaded call. I'm sitting here with an over-filled bladder waiting for the darn phone to ring...

My copy just arrived and I was wondering if anyone knew what the medals were the 2 guys were wearing? The photo is from 2005, I know this because I checked their site and confirmed it was those 2 but I didn't think they gave out medals but then again THEY do win the races so perhaps is the medal to the winners?

No great news here. My racing partner, Susan, has been given 6 more weeks of P.T. for her foot. We both had DNF for a 8K this past Sunday. Her because of her foot (can't for a ride back LOL) and me because there was no way I was going to freeze by myself especially as I was deadlast! Nasty wind. No rain ths week so we did...

Saturday 4 miles
Sunday was the DNF
Monday 3.5 miles with the dog
Tuesday about 1.5 because the dog looked ready to sit down and not budge!
Wednesday 3..5 miles
Thursday 3 miles and just completed 35 minutes on the ellipitcal.

I'm getting there, i need my long days again but with my partner out of comission it's not been happening. DH has said he'll do them with me so we'll see if I can get him out this weekend. Our long days are just about distances but I've wanted to start running more on them so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that weather, DH and legs permitting I'll get them in this weekend :)

Happy training too all!!!! *toasting you all with my gatoraide* :teeth:

OH!!!! Susan and I have signed up to volunteer at the start of the 5K so I'm not sure what we'll be doing, set up or getting people where they need to be but we're extremely excited! I'm so glad that we'll be able to be able to cheer and be there for those doing the 5K like those that are there when we do the 1/2. We've talked with the lady dealing with the volunteer sign up because we have a friend doing the 5K and we need to be at the finish for her and you'll probably hear us as we scream HAPPY BIRTHDAY to her as she finishs. It's a milestone b-day ;) She'd probably kill me if I said what but let's put it this way her and DL are celebrating something together ;) We CAN'T wait for September!!!!! Nervous about the course, OF COURSE! But oh what a weekend awaits us all!!!!!! :goodvibes

:cheer2: Go WISH Go!!!

HI everyone. I was out of commission for the last week being deathly ill... or you can call it the flu. I wasn't sick all winter and then now that the weather turns nice.... BLAM! My chest has been so congested this week that even walking up the steps is hard. I am hoping that by the weekend I can go for a little run.

I made contact with my local running group and they yanked me in. I was going to start this week, but now am waiting until next Thursday to do my first run with them. I am soooooo nervous!!!! LAst night on my way home from work there was a guy running on the side of the road. I noticed he was wearing one of the running groups shirts and it got me all excited! I wanted to hollor out the window at him, but then I remember how much I HATE those idiots that yell at me.

OH, and I made it official by signing up for WDW 1/2... it's official, you will all see me there now. HOOOO YAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! If any lime green shirts pass me, I'll be a holloring at ya to slow down and say "HI!!"

I have to take some time and back read all the posts. Happy Running everyone!!!!

Judy – Happy Belated Birthday! :bday: Glad you are feeling better. Good Luck on your first event this weekend! You’ll do GREAT!

Amy & Carrie - :thanks: for the prayers & pixie dust for my friends DD. All things considered she is doing really well. She came home from the hospital a couple of days ago and is on the road to recovery.

Amy – So far, the only race that I know for sure that I am doing is the local (Jackson) 5k on Sept. 2. I am considering looking into doing some others, 5k’s, maybe a 10k. Not sure if I will be ready for a half marathon before doing WDW’s Half. I am still pretty slow. :snail: :teeth: Congratulations on signing up for the WDW’s Full!

Cam – I will not be doing the Spring Lake 5, but depending on how busy the weekend is looking, I will try & get there to cheer you on. I have been wanting to watch a race before participating in one. It would great going to one where there are Wisher’s in it to cheer for. I wish you and Howard lots of luck for a fun race. :cheer2:

Michael – :welcome:

Scott – Congratulations on your PB 5k!

Jodi – Good Luck on your 10k this weekend! :cheer2:

GoofyGuy – So sorry you had to go through such a health scare, but very glad everything turned out ok

Dave – Congratulations on your 10k. Great job! Congratulations on taking the plunge & signing up for the WDW Marathon. :cool1:

Monte – Good Luck on your 10k this weekend! :cheer2:

Heather – Congratulations on your Beach to Bay Relay. I can’t imagine running 4 miles in the sand. Way to go!!!! :cool1:

Howard – Congratulations on your first marathon! Great job! I loved seeing the photos. Thanks to Cam for posting them. :woohoo:

MelR – I’m sending you positive thoughts….you can do it! And I agree with Dave, just remember DNF greatly trumps DNS. Your pictures were too funny. :lmao:

Sara – Hey, whatever works to keep you motivated, and I think you can’t get much more help in motivation then Marines. :rotfl2:

Carrie – Good Luck on your 6-miler on Saturday! Sounds like an interesting race. :cheer2:

Krista – Glad to hear you were able to run without knee pain. :thumbsup2

Kevin – It’s great that you won’t have to do any traveling for a while so that you have more time for training.

Dana – Hope everyone in your family is feeling better. Loved the pictures of your new house. It looks great!

Minnie – So very sorry about your accident & collapsed lung. Sending you pixie dust that you are feeling better soon. pixiedust:

Lynne – Congratulations on your race! I loved reading your report. :cool1:

Kristi – Sorry your dr. wasn’t much help. Good decision on switching docs. Congratulations on signing up for the DL Half! :thumbsup2

Sunny – Congratulations on your 5k. Pixie dust that your tendonitis is feeling better. Sorry you aren’t feeling well again. Pixie dust that you recover quickly. pixiedust: Please take it easy.

Rhonda – Pixie dust that hearing is getting better. pixiedust:

Maggie – Pixie dust for the hip pain. pixiedust:

Jen – Congratulations on signing up for the WDW Half

Thank you to everyone that has been so encouraging. Reading how you started out and how far you have come, really has been such a huge inspiration to me. You are all my hero’s!!!!

As for me…..Last Saturday DH (John) & I walked the 5 miles around the reservoir & then I did an additional walk of 2 more miles at a faster pace. It felt good to walk 7 miles, even if it was really slow. On Sunday DH & I with a couple of friends again walked the 5 miles around the reservoir. The rest of the week we were back at the High School track. Tonight I borrowed DS’s Ipod. My walking pace seemed faster without really trying, so I guess the music helped. Ended up walking 3 miles in just under 43min. Mile 1 was 14:41, mile 2 was 14:25, & mile 3 was 13:48. I need to work on doing more running. It takes me longer then I would like to recover after I do any running.

Hope everyone enjoys their Memorial Day Weekend!

Hi there - Sunny you read my mind. I was sitting in the bath the other day looking at my feet, as you do, and I thought 'hey, all my toenails are here and pink and flat' and then I realised it's because I'm a big fat wussy wimp who's only running once a week at the moment. Still, it all changes June 4th when DL training begins. I'm quite looking forward to being a runner again - although I was supposed to have lost about 6kg by now via lots of intervals at the gym, I started well but only managed 200g last fortnight. Oops!! Still by that rate I'll be another kilo lighter by DL (that's 8 seconds quicker right).

Now I did have other things to say, but completely lost the plot after page 8. But Christa and everyone else who can't make it for 2007 -I'm already heading up the 2008 team, you can join that one! Ah, well time to start my night shift now, thankfully it's only one phone call long. Helen

AAAAARGH
We've had cold and rainy weather for 10 days in a row now and it doesn't look like it will be any better for the JPMCCC next Thursday :furious:
I don't mind running in the rain, but with 62,390 runners we'll have to stand in the starting grid for at least an hour and that sucks :scared1:
We'll probably have to use huge trashbags as a protection against the rain: 3 holes cut in the bottom and you can pull it over your running gear. Before crossing the start line you can then simply tear it off and stuff it into the next trash can :p

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

OK, I was playing catchup at work after being away for my meeting in Portland, ME. I wasn't able to exercise at all when I was in Maine. So I had 3 rest days after my 10K on Sunday. I figure that's OK anyway for my legs. I did 50 min on the elliptical yesterday, and it said 5.38 miles. IK don't really believe that, but the exercise felt good and it was great to have no impact on the shins and legs.

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend everyone. This weekend happens to be my and DW's wedding anniversary. We got married on the Sunday before Memorial Day 11 years ago. My SIL, aka the Cool Aunt, is coming out from Cleveland to watch the princesses princess: princess:, and DW and I are going to take an overnight trip to Niagara Falls. I have a room in a nice hotel and 2 tickets to the new Cirque Niagara show that just opened there. We're both really looking forward to some couple time for just us. It's been a while.

OK, to catch up on some posts:

Jodi- How are you feeling for your 10K? Are you tapering? Good luck this weekend, I can't wait to hear about it.

Minnie- I have to agree with everyone else. Your doctor leaves alot to be desired. :sad2: Isn't it unfortunate though that this is not all that unusual for our medical system?

Christa- You just gotta be there for the marathon. Sure, bring your sister, bring your princesses princess: princess: and just have a girls weekend. I know you can run the Charlotte marathon, but there are very few chances for our TEAM to all be in the same place. I hope your at WDW!

Judy- :wizard: :wizard: for you getting over your bronchitis. Good luck with your race this weekend.

Sunny- you take care of yourself too. Here's some :wizard: :wizard: for getting over your illness as well. Your doctor also sounded like he was full of it...

Diane- sounds like you had a great week of training. :thumbsup2 No worries about the DNF, it greatly trumps the DNS! Hey, so did you ever think of running with your Pal Mickey for the WDW Marathon? It might be fun to have him jiggleing while you're running the race.

Jen- WHOO HOOOO!!!! :cool1: WTG on signing up for the WDW half! :thumbsup2 Have fun with the group run next Thursday. I was nervous about running with the group too, but they have been soooo supportive to my running. :wizard: :wizard: on you getting over your flu bug.

Karen- 7 miles, great!!! Your pace on the track sounds really good too. I hear you about taking a while to recover from the running. I think this is when I really start to realize I'm not 20something anymore.

Eric- Uuugh, yes, I don't envy you having to stand in the rain with 60,000+ other runners. Good luck. I'll be thinking of you as I'm running my JPMCCC here in Rochester.

First things first:

Dave - Happy Anniversary this weekend!

Judy - Good Luck in your race!

Jen - Glad you got signed up for the 1/2! I took the plunge earlier this week, so I guess we're committed! Or at least, we should be committed!

Howard - I'm a little late, but WTG on your marathon! That is very impressive. I think maybe after we do this for a while we forget that a very small percentage of people could run/walk/crawl some of the distances we do, so be proud!!!

Well, I'm back at it today after resting my knees yesterday. They feel much better this morning, with just a little pain. I'm about to walk out the door and do at least 4 miles at the track. My goal is 52:30 today so I can try to get under 52:00 for my 4 miler in 2 weeks. When I get back I'll give you a report (good, bad, or ugly :teeth: )

Everyone have a great day, and a safe weekend!

Hi Dave :wave2: ,

This morning - I'm feeling pretty good, this week I only averaged 3 miles as far as training goes....mostly because I had done something to my foot at my PT session on Saturday but I feel like I can run a good one.

After the 10k, I like you, might just stick to crosstraining for a little bit and then dig back in. I want to try and get my feet/ankles checked out....one seems a little bit weaker than the other and I really don't want to get injured :goodvibes .

Getting a little nervous about the 10k though....this time around I'm bringing my MP3 - last time I didn't and when the faster runners started to pass me up, well, I guess you could say I focused on it a little bit more.

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes on the race - you guys are the best!

Everyone have a great Memorial Day weekend! Hey, is anyone else like me and stuck at work today? Seems like a lot people have off in my area  .

jodi - Good luck this weekend!

Dave - Happy anniversary!

solo - Thought you were gonna' be here more often? ;) Hope you not sick or suffering from an eternal migraine! :wizard:

Karen - Glad to hear your friend's dd is home and recovering well! Keep us posted!

Helen - Good to see you!! DId you have a faling out with your running friends? WHat's up with teh 1 run a week? ;)

Michael - Hope your knees handled it ok today!!!

Viking - :wizard: that the weather improves!

Jen - That sounds awful! There's been a lot of crud going around like that. Glad you're doing better now!

Diane - Tell Susan I hope she's doing better soon! :wizard: I hope so, so that you get your partner back soon! Sure you don't want to meet us on teh bridge Saturday? ;) ;) ;)

monte - I can't guarantee I can make it, but I'd try to make a chat if we scheduled one! That would be fun!!

DH and I did 30 min last night. Trying to hydrate today. Been better the last week, but horrible for about the last 6 weeks! Won't be back for updates until Sunday or Monday, though.

I think dh is more worried than I am about the race. I have to pick up Olive Garden on the way home so that we can scarf it down before we head out of town. He missed teh 6 and 7-milers, though and has not done more than 4 in probably 2 months. I'm sure he'll be fine, though. Thanks for sending us luck!

For all you nice toenail people, mine were fine all through training. Got a blister under my second toe after teh marathon. About 2 months later the nail fell off, didn't turn black or anything first. It's still pretty lumpy an dbumpy, though. :( I guess taht just makes me a real athelete, huh? :D

Hi, everyone! I really, really wanted to respond to everyone, but it is going to be a crazy day at work and I need to get to it.

I did want to thank everyone who said so many nice things about me. I keep thinking "boy, are they easily impressed!" :teeth: I really do love you guys. You keep me going for sure.

Dave -- Happy anniversary! Am soo glad your kids have a "cool aunt" so you can get away!

karen -- awesome job on doing those distances!

Good luck to everyone who has events this weekend -- Judy, Jodi, Carrie, Monte . . . I will be thinking of all of you and can't wait to get back to read your race reports.

I am hoping I will actually have something good to report after the Spring Lake 5 tomorrow. I have done nothing in more than a week just due to schedule and exhaustion, and quite frankly, I had hoped my sheer laziness would at least result in improvement in my hamstring/hip. Of course, if I'd been doing all the things I should have been doing -- anti-inflammatories every day 2x, cool baths, stretching multiple times per day -- I am sure I would have seen improvement. But I didn't even make time to do that. I'll certainly suffer for it tomorrow, but I'll be thrilled to finish.

Karen -- If you make it to the race, I hope to be coming over the finish line around 1:15:00 - 1:20:00 at the latest -- the mob scene will probably delay my start 2-3 minutes. UGH! I'll be wearing long black pants and an aqua shirt with white trim. I'd LOVE to see you if you can make it.

Have a great weekend, everyone! We'll be back late tomorrow night and will "talk" with all of you soon.

I'm back from my workout, and I promised to share the good, bad, and ugly, so here it is (in reverse order):

The ugly: Less than a mile into my session, my shins and knees were really burning. I started to get a little discouraged, but was determined that I was just going to work through it. Then at the 2 mile mark, I developed a little side stitch. Nothing major, and went away pretty quickly, but it hurt for a few minutes. The better news is that the further along I went, the better my shins and knees felt! :woohoo: I guess maybe part of what I'm dealing with is tightness, because by the end of my run, I had very little pain. :)

The bad: A couple of "oh, crap" moments. As I finished mile 3, my ipod came unplugged and fell on the track. I had to quickly go back and grab it and keep going, but it cost me a few seconds. Then at about 3.5 one of my shoes came untied. I stopped and quickly tied it up, but there went another few seconds. Just bad luck, whatta ya gonna do?

Now, the good: I had a great session! My goal was 4 miles in under 52:30, in prep for my race in a couple of weeks. At mile 3, I knew I was in pretty good shape. As I came to the end of mile 4, I knew I had my goal without any kind of push, so . . .

I WENT FOR FIVE MILES! :Pinkbounc :yay: :cool1: :teeth:

I felt so good at the end of mile 4 I just decided to keep on going! And mile 5 was great, too! I've not done a 5 mile session since I ran cross country in high school, and had one planned for next week, with a goal of about 1:06. I guess I'll have to revise that schedule, because I blew my 4 mile and 5 mile goals away today! Here's the results:

mile 1: 12:38
mile 2: 25:10 (12:32 split)
mile 3: 37:50 (12:40 split)
mile 4: 50:55 (13:05 split)
mile 5: 1:03:31 (12:36 split)

I AM SO PUMPED! And my knees feel really good (maybe that's because of the ice packs that are on them as I type this). Hope everyone has as good a day as I have already had, and great holiday weekend!

Michael - GREAT RUN!!!!!! I haven't ran in over a week since I have been sick. Actually all month has been less than stellar. But now that I am committed to running with a local group, I need to get back out there, whether I can breathe or not!!!

Oh I wanted to note that my girls (6 and 3 at the time of the marathon) want to run the Kids races so bad. So I promised them that after I run the 1/2, we will scoot over to Wide World of Sports and they can run their races.... then I won't have to share my medal, they can get their own!

Thank you (all) for the great comments about the Marathon (my first) I ran last weekend. I certainly have a lot to learn about nutrition before, during and after the race. Had I known these things and followed advice (Cam) and what I read in Runner's World and in several books, I think I could have delayed and/or eliminated the dreaded "wall."

Good luck to everyone that has an event or training run this weekend.

I am running in the Spring Lake 5 (in NJ) with Cam. This will be my 4th year to run it. I am hoping for a time close to 45 minutes. Having just completed the marathon, I hope the remnants of my 3 blisters are not an issue during the race.

Everyone have a great weekend! Thanks for the support and great comments.

Enjoy!

Good morning everyone. :sunny: I didn't train this morning....I woke up completely congested. :guilty: I think I have developed very bad adult-onset allergies. I think that is what started the whole bronchitis thing, which BTW I think is pretty much gone. My head is so stuffy and I sneeze and sneeze and sneeze. I have an appointment with an allergist on June 12th.

So now I feel like a bum, not training this morning. :sad2: But maybe if I can get out of here early today, on account of it being a long holiday weekend, I can train this afternoon.

Jen - Ohh! Congratulations on registering! :cheer2: Whooo hooo!

Karen - Thanks for the vote of confidence. :goodvibes I'm as ready as I'll ever be.

Helen - I'm sad that I have to wait until 2008 to meet you. :guilty:

Dave - Happy happy anniversary to you and DW! :cloud9: What great plans. You guys enjoy it!!! Thank you for the good luck wishes.

Michael - Thank you and :wizard: for your knees. May they be forever pain free. Oh what a fab-u-lous workout! I'm so happy for you!

Jodi - I too am at work, although I don't know why. At a site that normally houses 3500 people, there are about 100 here. What a waste of electricity. :rolleyes2

Carrie - Nail or no nail - you ARE a REAL ATHLETE! :thumbsup2

Cam - Best of luck this weekend! :cheer2: I expect a full race report with pics!

Sara & Pat - Thank you for the well wishes. :goodvibes I'll let you know on Tues how it went.

Howard - I am SOO impressed that you remember what day you got engaged! DH and I aren't even married one year yet but I'm going to ask him tonight if he remembers what day we got engaged. I bet he doesn't. I do have a funny story about that and one of these days I'll tell you all. Plus may I just say, besides being eye candy, you sure a a true romantic!

Oops! Can't. Gotta stop by Cam's 100 Days.

Hi Dave! Thanks for the positive thoughts :) I did think about taking a Pal on the 2006 1/2 Marathon but in the end we didn't want any extra weight to get in the way to finishing ;) I was going to have my Mom meet us in the MK with our Pals but she wasn't going for it. Perhaps someday we'll do it, perhaps I'll give it a try on the Minnie or Run for the Taste when we eventually do them :) Congrats on your anniversary this weekend!!!!

Carrie.....bridges scare me! Is the Mackinac this weekend? I thought it was Labor Day weekend. Our friend who started training so she could do the DL 5K (the b-daygirl) and now wants the WDW1/2 has brought up a girls weekend to Mackinac Island for their race, I seem to recall there are 3 weekends. May, summer and a fall date and I think they are 5Ks. I need to research that some more because I think we'd have a blast :) By the way we've created a monster in signing her up. She DID finish the 8K and in the Toledo Dart Frog 5K finished like 5 minutes ahead of me. Love her but it's frustrating! LOL I was going to take today off but after thinking about her maybe not ;) LOL

Michael! Way to go on the 5!!! Excellent time on the 4 :cheer2: I hate the beginning of races because my shins/calves are so tight. Apparently I need to do more warming-up  I hope your starting shin/calf pain eases up so you can enjoy the beginning more :) Best of luck with the training!!!!

Diane - It is MAckinaw Bridge weekend! I was just teasing because I remeber your fear of the bridge! ;) This weekend is the run. Labor Day is the walk. DIdn't even know they had a run (except fo a few special runnres in the beginning of the Labor Day Walk) until we found a brochure for it. I have not heard of teh Mackinac Island 5k's. I do know there's a half, I think in October. I thought that might be fun.

Does anyone have that 20% off shoes code from Sierra Trading Post? I just got back from my orthopaedist, and he recommended I get new shoes. Sierra Trading Post still has the Asics Gel-Kayano XI for ~$88, and I was thinking of getting myself a pair. Maybe I should do it through Sunny's site too - don't you get something if we order through your site Sunny?

Yeesh, I get busy and you people rack up pages and pages!! I hope I hit everyone I need to....

First, thanks to all of you with the Welcome Back's!!

Lynne-- Wowza on the tri!!! You've certainly put me to shame. Swimming in a lake in Florida?? Um, no. Congrats to you!!

Cam-- I loved your post about not being alone in this!! :thumbsup2 That really suprised me last year. After I joined up with you wonderful people it just seemed like all of a sudden I became part of something bigger than just me and my race. And that was certainly reflected come race weekend!

Amy-- Woo Hoo!! Congrats on the Registration!!

Michael-- Great training run!! Awesome pace!! :thumbsup2

Carrie-- Yeah, yeah, yeah.. I did promise to be around more. Shame shame on me!! I hope I catch you before you leave... Good luck this weekend at the race!! The weather is looking GORGEOUS here!!

Everyone Else-- Sounds like pretty much everyone is doing great!!, (Save for some illness, bad doctors and the possible absence of our Evil Queen this January........ )

Well, I'm officially locked in. Not only did I confirm my Goofy registration with the Disney Sports people, my hotel was booked in April and I just booked airfare this morning!!! Northwest just opened up an outbound and return nonstop GRR-MCO and it was less than $250, so jumped on it!! I know you Jetblue/Southwest folks are probably having a fit of full-on vapors at the idea of spending that much on airfare, but from GR in the winter, that's a steal. As they say in the Haunted Mansion, there's no turning back now.

I'm all registered for my 5K in Toronto the last weekend in June... so there's something to train for!!! :cheer2:

This week's training was just OK.... Tuesday's training session in the gym was fine, but my run was a serious STONKER. (Wait, can a short run even be a stonker???) Wednesday was actually a suprise run day.... my roomate asked if I wanted to go to hills, so we decided to do hills at the soccer field across the street. this particular soccer field was built on the site of a former quarry and is the most popular sledding hill in town, so these were some serious hills. Thursday and Friday just more of the same... good in the gym and pretty good cardio. Tomorrow will be my first truly long run in a long time. At least 8 miles, maybe more if I feel up to it. I want to set a baseline to see how much I can improve between now and when Goofy training starts. We'll see how it goes.

Have a great holiday weekend everyone!!!
Happy training!

That would be great, Dave! Yes I get a commission. Right now my site is earning me a whopping $10-20 per month :lmao: Just a bit more than it costs to keep it up. Any little bit is very welcome.

I'm beyond mad at my dr's office. I waited all day yesterday for my call back. They called late afternoon and said the dr was gone for the day but would call me first thing today. My butt pain is worse than it ever was during training, but my arm seems to be on the mend.

Here's the very worst of it all. Because I am so desparate to make contact with this office I did the absolute unthinkable. I brought my cell phone on the nature hike field trip. The office called while we were stopped collecting bugs so I answered it. I told them I was on a field trip and needed to be very brief-- just get me an apt today!!!! I think the call was about 3 minutes long, but the group started to move on while I was taking it. Another kindergarten teacher yelled at me because my group was standing there waiting for me while I was on the phone. She yelled "get off the phone, you're on a field trip". My feelings were hurt and I was mad, but I totally understood her pov. No chaperone should be on a cell phone while chaperoning.

So later when we stopped for lunch I went over to her and explained I only took the call because it was my dr and I've been trying to get ahold of them since yesterday morn, the whole p thing and the bad reaction to the med. (Not to mention my elbow brace was visible). She was totally unresponsive and told me if I was too sick to attend to the children I was assigned then I shouldn't be there.

As if that wasn't enough. I rushed to the apt after the ft, my dr confirmed that it was the Levaquin that caused my elbow and butt injuries, told me she'd call in a muscle relaxer and sent me down to pt. Pt told me they have a 5 week waiting list, and when I got to the pharmacy-- you guessed it, no prescription.

So I've decided I will be my own dr. I don't need insult on injury (literally).

And I can't tell you how awful I feel that a whole bunch of teachers and parents saw me talking on a cell phone on a ft. I tried to talk really loud so it was obvious it was an important dr call... but still.

UGH :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious:

Oh, and Miss Brilliant told me I should give it 6-8 weeks before resuming workouts. When I questioined and pressed and pressed she finally said I should give it a week with nothing and then start back with about 30% of what ever I was doing and increase 10% per week as possible. She has no idea "whatever I was doing" and I wasn't about to enlighten her. I'll stay clear of leg presses and arm weights for a good long while. Not knowing the danger of my situation I could have easily loaded up the leg press and blew out me knees.

So I should be a blimp by July. :furious: :furious: :furious:

Thank you, Minnie

I have to say part of why this was such a horrible experience for me is that I totally agreed with the teacher. If I saw a parent chaperoning on a cell phone I would be totally disgusted. I'm just so mad that my dr saga pushed me to do something really out of character for me.

BTW, I've been so busy with my own misery I haven't asked how you are doing. I ohpe you are recovery fast. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

TG for WISH, I really don't have anyone else who would understand this stuff. I was brought to tears when she said 6-8 weeks. People just don't understand that. And I absolutely hate crying in front of a dr who is totally unconcerned.

My next quest will be to go name by name through the HMO directory. My one and only criterion will be if there is a human on the other end of the line. The dr can be a total quack. All I care about is being able to talk to someone when I'm sick or in pain. Is that really too much to ask? Both my kids peditritions have humans in the loop, so maybe there's hope for me, too. My DD peditrtion has even called her at home to check up on her. Absolutely unheard of in our state of medical care. I wonder if I could fake my age and get her to be my pcp :rotfl2: "really, I'm 16, I've just been in the sun too much" :rotfl:

I joke about co-pays, but you guys truly are the best therapy I have for these situations. Thank you so much for being here :grouphug: :cloud9: :grouphug:

BTW, I just sent out a group-wide invitation at work for the Reach the Beach Relay. Depending on the response, if there's a possibility of a team, are there any WISHers still interested? Colleen?

I'm pretty sure I would only do it with a 12 person team, meaning 3 legs and a total of about 16 miles. But the avg pace overall needs to be 10:00 so I'm hoping for some young speedy guys to sign up!

Let me know if anyone is really interested. Keep in mind, if we have a lot of locals, the vehicles will not be a problem.

I felt discouraged and like a poser sending out the message. At the moment I can barely walk or drive or sit or lay down. Sure, I'll take on a gruely NH course... I keep watching the 2005 DVD trailer trying to spot people over 40. It looks like mostly young crazy kids. Once I get over all my ailments, maybe I'll be young at heart again :confused3

in case you need to be remotivated...

I've been thinking of you as I go through this dr saga/h3ll. It seems the system has totally robbed the drs of their motivation to be outstanding and caring. Its scarey. I hope the system doesn't drain you. You've got a heart of gold. I honestly don't fault the drs. If they are forced to see 10-12 patients a day, how in the world could they be intuned to each one? The state of health care is really scarey.

But the good news is, my office mate told me there is a human at her practice. Not only that, there is an on call dr off hours that can be reached through an answerig service. I haven't heard of such a thing since the 1980s. Maybe I can find one like that.

OK, I think I've been :offtopic: long enough.

Sunny - move here. I would work out w/ you and phil (being a big time weekend warrior) is a human and understands the needs of other athletes. I do have to say that 10-12 patients/day is a gross underestimate. Try 25-35/day. His group always has an on-call person who can be reached after hours through the hospital number. Sorry about your bad experiences. Maybe you can find a human through your pediatrition. They might be able to recommend one. BTW, I think the teacher was a jerk too!!!!

No Sunny move here - not only do you get real people on the phone, when I had to have those travel injections back in March, I called and spoke to the nurse who treated me last time. She remembered I don't like needles and told me to come within the hour as she thought it wouldn't give me time to panic. There are some benefits to a country with only 4 million people I spose.

In other notes: congrats Howard and Cam (awww), Judy, can't wait to meet you too, it's only 600 days or something till then I promise! Double congrats to Lynne, any event with the word ironman in the title astounds me!!!! and Carrie, no I haven't had a row with the runners (what are you saying?). Main running buddy has had surgery so she's off for a bit so I took the chance to go to the gym more as it tends to get the body fat off me more effectively (well that was the theory). So, the only night I'm officially running is Wednesday at running club - but I am hitting the gym 3-4 more times a week to keep my fitness up so not totally lazy I spose. Anyway, better go now, it's Saturday afternoon, Tim has gone to soccer and I'm supposed to be out doing the weekly shop. Helen

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Sunny- Aaaaargh, it sounds like you have had a really frustrating day. What a horrible experience with your doctor and what a horrible experience with your field trip. That Kindergarten teacher had no business whatsoever saying something to you about your cell phone call. The teacher should be on her knees thanking you for volunteering your time, and if you had to take the call you had to take the call. I know we live in a society where people let their work and cell phones intrude on other things too much, but it sounds like you were not doing that whatsoever. Hang in there Sunny, what a frustrating experience you have been having. Giving you loads of :wizard: :wizard: to deal with your doctor, illness, and witches :maleficen.

We can tell from your message that the cell phone thing was really out of character for you. The doctor made you take that cell phone to the field trip so direct the anger and frustration at their office and not at yourself.

Part of me would really like to run the Reach the Beach Relay with you Sunny. I think I'm down to the 10 mpm pace now, but it's the same weekend as the Rochester marathon and half marathon. I was planning on running the half marathon for a training run, and it makes more sense to not have to pay extra for all the travelling. I hope you find a team. You're not a poser at all!!!

OK, I need to get ready for my group run this morning. Have a good day all.

Greetings TEAM:

Back from my group run, did 4.54 miles in 45:24 min (10 mpm pace). Tough run for me today, very humid, and I had not run since my 10K last Sunday. I did 50 min on the elliptical on Thursday, but that was it. I got through it though, my shins felt OK, and I feel good now that my run is over.

Cam & Howard – I’m sorry I wasn’t able to make it over to Spring Lake to meet you and cheer you on. :cheer2: I was really hoping I would be able to work it out to be there. Oh well. :confused3 Maybe next year I will be able to participate in it with you. Hope you enjoyed the race.

Dave – Happy Anniversary to you & your DW. Enjoy your couples only time in Niagara Falls. You’ll have to let us know how the Cirque show was. We have been to La Nouba in WDW & O in Vegas. Really enjoyed both. I certainly know what you mean about realizing you’re not in your 20’s anymore. Heck, my lungs have been screaming at me you’re not in your 30’s anymore & you’re half way through your 40’s. LOL :rotfl2:

Carrie – Hope you enjoyed your race. :Pinkbounc

Michael – You’re 5 mile run times were great. You really are progressing quickly. :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

Jen – That is great that your girls want to do the kids races. I’m sure they will wear their medals proudly. Pixie Dust that you are feeling better. pixiedust:

Judy – Pixie Dust that your congestion is feeling better. Allergies can really drag you down. This has been a really bad year for them. pixiedust:

Minnie – Glad to hear you are feeling better. Pixie Dust that your recovery goes quickly. pixiedust:

Kevin – Congratulations on being “Locked In” for the Goofy. Hope your LR went well today.

Sunny – Pixie Dust that you are able to find a new dr that will be there when you need them. pixiedust: Hope your injuries are feeling better. Try not to stress about the nasty teacher on the field trip. :grouphug:

Yesterday was a rest day. Today was just a bit of time for a quick workout. Went to a park very close to home and walked the mile loop, stopping to do most of the fitness stations that are along the loop.

Looking forward to hearing how everyone's races went this weekend. :yay:

OK, I need to get ready for my group run this morning. Have a good day all.

Thanks, Dave
Part of my problem is "Working mom" syndrome, always feeling guilty that I'm not more involved. So this just played into my inferiority complex even more. I might as well pulled out a Palm Pilot and conducted business because I my career is just soooo important. I think I literally yelled the word "pneumonia" and "allergic reaction" :rotfl2: It didn't help that DS just attended a bday party where all the moms knew each other and I'm having a bday party for him in two weeks. Her's was a totally planned and crafted from home at home party and mine's and easy out YMCA party. I go through this whole guilty working mother thing during bdays and holidays everyear.

Oh Dave, you've got the 10mm we need for RtB, is there anyway we could sway you from your planned marathon ;)

I am really up and down. Not only is the being benched thing hard to take physcially and mentally, another "rare but serious" side effect of that retched Levaquin is "severe depression and suicidal thoughts". I never thought I'd admit this too you all, but on day 5 I went thorugh my house and got rid of everything that is unique to me. I even got rid of my marathon medals and placque my Mom got me from the WDW marathon. I later regretted it BIG time, but loving Dx knew something was up and went through the trash and resued "me"!!!! They're still all in hiding. I've had a major head trip that isn't over just yet. But TG the're not gone for good.

So now you might have a better understanding of why I feel so akward sending out the RtB invite to my Group at work. I'm a total mess both phyically and mentall.

AND, I would have no clue how it all happened if it wasnt for one of the only two decent drs in my life (Dr. Mel) for alerting me of the Levaquin. And of course you know the other one is Dr. Lynn :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I know my posts have been all about me, me, me lately. Thank you so much for listenening.

I've crafted my plan for finding a new dr.

I'll go down the list (specialties, honors, degrees are insignificant). I'll dial the number. I'll allow for one recorded message to direct me to a button. Once past the button I will ask, "are you a real human?" if the object on the other end of the line is able to respond, I'll know I've found my knew dr.

I'm not even joking!

I might get just a little more picky and ask if this particular dr is supportive of weekend warriors and doesn't try to disuade them from doing their thing. I'll probably need to work on the wording a bit :lmao:

Hello hello hello! I have not fallen off of the face of the earth, and I am even still running. I'm out in the hilly hilly hilly north east section of Texas (did I mention there are hills here?) working at a camp. I feel so disjointed because I have not been keeping up with the posts. Anywho, my running around here has been slow (did I mention the mountains around here??). Yesterday, on my long run I didnt get started until 7pm. It was supposed to be a 20 miler but I cut it off at 14 miles. I am going to repeat the last two weeks to give my body some time to aclimate to the hills here. Hopefully, I will be able to keep up on posts next week.

Question: When is the best time to get a hotel room for the marathon? When is the absolute latest? Ditto on airfare. I was thinking Pop Century and Southwest.
