I work at an ice cream and sandwich store during the summer. It is REALLY affecting my eating patterns because there is really nothing healthy up there and I can get whatever I want, snack wise, while I work to munch on. I can't live like that anymore (and I know this) but what can I do about it?
We serve all sorts of soft serve treats, BBQ beef sandwiches, delicious shredded chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, and nachos (regular and supreme). I drink about 5 16-oz bottles of water every time I go there so drinking water doesn't do as much but make me have to go potty. Removing myself isn't going to work too well...and the only way I don't eat is to keep busy (but keeping busy is hard because there's only so much you can do at one time). Taking in Lean Cuisine meals and healthy snacks could work but we have yet to buy them :sad2: as our freezer is too full.
Short of keeping busy, taking meals and taping my mouth shut, is there anything I can do to keep from eating a bunch of junk?
TIA!

Chew gum! That really helps me at work when I want to raid the boss's candy dish. I love Orbit Sweet Mint and Orbit Citrus Mint. The flavor lasts a long time and it is sugarless. The other alternative is to get a different, non-food related job. When I was in high school I worked at Walgreens. Hope this helps a little...

ALTOIDS!!!
There is NOTHING on this planet except water that tastes appetizing after most of the Altoids mints. Plus, you wouldn't be chewing gum in front of people/while talking. But, if you eat too many your tongue might get a bit sore. Or some VERY sour candy - like warheads - to suck on. Just have to make the food unappetizing.
Maybe add some SF drink mix to some of the water to make it flavorful, or tea mix. Keep a bag of 94% free popcorn popped and handy and if you feel the need to munch grab some. It keeps pretty well in a zip lock, and a whole big bag for some of the varieties is only 2 - 3 points. Plus with the water it will fill you.
TOUGH situation, but you can do it!! You've come too far to go back now.

Keep up the good work drinking the water... I try and drink alot of it too. My suggustions to you are this...when drinking the water flavor it w/ cucumbers and flavor another bottle w/ Oranges and lemon. At night prepare your lunch and snacks. Try different kinds of wraps, chicken, turkey and flavor them w/ tom, olives, lettuce and whatever kind of salad dressing you like.
For snacks, pack the crasions w/ chocolate bites... they are really good, they dont give you alot of chocolate but it satisfys you. And lastly, when everyone is eating icecream whip out a frozen treat for yourself, fudge pops that are sugar free or make a icecream sandwich at home using two graham crackers, spread pb on one side (pb has to be the good kind) and spread the other side w/ a whipped topping thats fat free, Freeze it and OMG GOODNESS!
It works when you prepare yourself, I know first hand about working in a deli and all the things that tempt you. GL and I hope this helped!

wow tiggercheer that is a toughie :confused3 -- good thing you are a WISHer and we WISHers are strong, not to mention we :rockband:
you got some great ideas and i don't have much to add other than for me it wouled be all about not starting. once i tasted a bite or allowed myself one sample i would be done for the day. i would have to go with the mindset of not ONE bite would pass through my lips and just stay strong, stay busy and be very very proud of yourself for doing so. i bet each day it will get easier and maybe you could set a reward, like 5 days no sampling and you can have one snack -- journaled and accounted for though. i'm just betting as time goes you the cravings for the junk will subside as you realize how much better you feel passing up on it :teeth:
