We're now arriving a day earlier then planned but at least we now have our flights booked and our 1st night has been reserved so we'll be at the Expo when it opens :) Can't wait! I just wish the rain would stop so my park would cease flooding! LOL
2 walkers (though I'm jogging more and more) for the 1/2 and 2 are planned for the 5K so we'll be at the 5K to cheer themon :)
It's coming so fast, I'm going between days of can't wait and excitement to days of "OMG! what have I done!" it's those days that require DH repeating till he's hoarse that I've finished one so I CAN do this to pull me back from the edge
Hope everyone's training is going well and that your weather is behaving :sunny: We have our 8K this Saturday and a 10K on 6/4. Those are our last planned small races so we can be just focused on training although if the flooded park doesn't stop soon I might switch to Triathlons :rotfl2:
We'll be at the DL Resort :cool1:

Booked my flight earlier this week, have a room at the Ramada Maingate.
Only 123 days  I better get my butt in gear! :teeth:
I'll be mixing up the walking and running!

I am so excited about this race! It's coming up quickly. Mom (my racing buddy) and I will be there. We are staying at the Candy Cane Inn. So WISH I could have gotten a room at the DLH since I will probably never make it out to DL again. Anyone else doing the parks? I figure since we've never been & might not go back (at least for a long time) then we need to go see everything :cool1:

We will be getting in Friday and staying at HoJos. We plan on staying and doing the parks Mon & Tues, flying home weds. Dh is doing the half. I will be doing the 5k.
I am not-so-patiently waiting for Southwest to open up so I can book flights!

We are going to be at the Candy Cane Inn Friday through Thursday -- taking DS13 this trip since DD will be in her first semester of college. We've never been there before and can't anticipate going back anytime soon, so we are doing the parks AFTER the race. DH is running it and I am walking it. I don't remember -- is there a pacing requirement for this?

Hi All!
Looks like we are going to be a fun group! Cam, this event has the same pacing requirements as WDW, 16 minute miles. DH and I will be walking just fast enough to avoid the sweepers (and still have time to take a few pictures!!). Unfortunately, due to when DH could get time off from work, we will be doing all of our sight-seeing before the DL half. Not ideal, but what can ya do??
Later today I will start a list in the first post so we can have all our info in one spot. I seem to remember a while back there was talk of meeting at the Candy Cane pool. We need to start thinking about what will work best for everyone. DH and I arrive Thursday (may push that back to Weds) and leave Monday.
Only 122 days to go!!

Hello, all! DH and I will arrive Thursday, do the parks Friday, REST on Saturday, 1/2 marathon Sunday and fly to Vegas Sunday evening! The only way I was able to register us for the DL was that it was near the time of his family's yearly trip to Vegas. His aunt is putting us up, so no hotel fees. We plan to meet up with everyone at Candy Cane Inn. It will be great to see you all again! :cool1: Anne

Hey Maherae, DH and I are starting our vacation in Vegas (his special place). We are spending a couple of nights there and then moving on to Zion and Bryce National Parks, then back to Vegas, then flying to CA. I would have preferred to do our vacationing after the half, but DH couldn't get the time off later in the month, so we had no choice.
I am really excited about DL. It has been many years since I've been there, and I am anxious to check it out.
I'm looking forward to seeing all of my WISH teammates in Sept!
We'll be there as well and staying at the Grand Californian. If I don't get to meet up with the fellow DISers, I'll keep an eye out for you. Good luck on your training!

I'm there, at the Candy Cane from Thursday till the next Friday. Spose I'd better start running more than once a week again soon (hence my disappearing from the boards, not sure 'didnt run today' is hugely motivating to anyone!!!). Good news is my Hal Higdon beginners programme - seems funny saying that as it's my 14th half but slackers must do what slackers must do!!! - starts me with just 3 mile runs which I can handle even though it is a very wet winter here at the moment. Dh (wfloyd) and I will be there - staying at Grand Californian. Dh is running the half and I am doing the 5K. We will be in San Diego for the week of Labor Day, then a week at DL before the half. I think we fly out the day after the half. We have never been to California, and don't know that we will ever get to go again, so we are definitely doing all the parks and sights around LA and San Diego. (Well, as much as we can do with a 3yo without wearing him out too much...) ;) I can't wait to see you all! If anyone wants to do a WISH meet earlier in the week, we would definitely be interested.
By the way, does anyone have recommendations for a hotel in San Diego? We have done lots of research, but nothing has really jumped out at us (that we can afford). I guess I need to check the DL board, as well. Any ideas from you all?
Thanks!

Hi Lynnda,
There are some great hotels(and some bad ones) in San Diego. It depends on where you want to stay and how much you're willing to spend. We like the Mission Bay area because of it's location and views. I think we got the Sheraton for like $100/night through priceline.com. My suggestion to you would be to post this over on the Disneyland boards as there are quite a few of the San Diegans that hang out over there. Good luck!

Thanks! I will check on the DL board. We were originally looking at Mission Bay hotels, but the ones with the best reviews are a bit pricey. (Go figure... ) We are trying to decide how much time we would actually spend at the bay to see if it is worth the extra money. We could go inland a little and get a suite (separate room for DS...) for less. :confused3 How was the Sheraton? Was there anything you didn't like? Could you see the other area hotels - anything to avoid?
Thanks again for the info! I'm getting sooooo excited! I keep showing DS pics of Disneyland every couple of days. (He is probably tired of them, but I'm not!!!) ;)
Can't wait to see you all!!!

We liked the Sheraton a lot! The view was very nice and it's very close to Sea World(less than a mile away), Seaport Village, Old Town, etc... If we didn't book through priceline, we would still choose the Sheraton. It is very close to the airport but we found that the planes flying by never bothered us. As far as other hotels, I don't remember seeing other hotels around. Now, if you stayed in Hotel Circle, then you would see a LOT of hotels around. I don't think you'd be disappointed with the Sheraton. Just my 2 cents...
I'm going now!!! I had resigned myself to the fact that I just couldn't afford it and couldn't take the time to go. BUT we are cancelling our eastbound TransAtlantic on the Magic next summer  so we now have some more $$ and days of leave. Now I am going to make plans for DisneyWorld in January too!! So today I'm working on where to stay and airlines. I have registered to race with the Run for Our Sons team already. No one has posted much recently about DL---is everyone just too busy training? I want to read something!! I'm wondering if I should stay at Paradise Pier (rate of $135/night) or stay at the Radisson Maingate ($80/night thru AAA). Is the extra money worth it for PP? Anyone? Thanks! I'm just so excited! :Pinkbounc

2 more heading to the DL 1/2.
My wife and are will be flying in on the 16th and we are staying a the DL Hotel. This will be my 2nd 1/2 marathon and the first for my wife. We see it a a good incentive to start early training for the 2007 WDW marathon.

I don't post as much just because I'm in crunch time to get my training dialed for my first Ironman.
As for hotels, we've always stayed at the DLH. However, since we've got some loose change, we thought we'd open up the wallet a bit and splurge on the GC. I don't know if any of the DL resorts have rooms available now but you should give them a call. Good luck!

DebM, not stayed at PP but I know at one point they weren't showing availability. I have stayed at the Radisson a few years ago. It was okay, a nice basic motel. We liked the fact that it had indoor corridors so I could look out the window, and when we had a room in the main building we faced toward the park so could just see the fireworks. It might be worth checking the new Sheraton on Harbour though - it's opposite the Radisson, used to be the West Coast but has been rebranded and completely refurbished. That's where we started staying after the Radisson, we're only not staying there this time because they hadn't opened bookings on the website when I entered DL - and I had to know I had a room so we went with the CCI. If it's open yet, and they've kept the same basic shape and amenities, the pool is much bigger, the rooms are much bigger, they have balconies and one half of the hotel has park views, and they might have opening offers.

We are now booked at the Candy Cane in Friday night through Thursday night and today I booked our flights (non-stop on Southwest) from Philadelphia to LAX (cost and availability for Orange County was terrible!). We arrive Friday 9/15 at about 12:30 pm and fly home the following Friday around 1:20 pm.
As soon as I have some time, I am going to try to start doing some real planning. Looks like I can get discounted multi-day tickets on my passport to savings membership, but will have to compare the prices at various sources for the best bargain.
Sorry I have no information to contribute in the way of hotel choices, etc. Just hoping whatever I am pulling together turns out to be a good choice.

I just booked our SW tix now. We are lucky that we could choose what flights we wanted since we have free tix from rapid rewards. We will arrive Thursday night and come home the following Wednesday.
Cam - we are staying at the HoJos with a Disneyland view room. :yay: When I booked awhile ago, the Candy Cane was full for the weekend.
I am off to check out car rental deals now that the flight is set in stone...I have to look into DL ticket pricing too. Not sure if we are going to do 2 or 3 days yet.
I have a place to stay!! Not what I was expecting but we ended up at Grand Californian. I ended up using our DVC points because DH said he would rather do that than spend the cash. I'm not complaining because I got a DL resort. There wasn't much left though so I'm glad I have something booked. Thanks for everyone's input. Now I need to keep the training up. Have a great weekend! :thumbsup2

We will be in DL for oour anniversary from either 9/10 or 9/11. Checking out on the 15th and heading south to San Diego and checking into a timeshare there. Hopefully we can meet up with some of you who are coming in a little early for the race. Unfortunately, we will not be in DL for race day.
I still have to book a hotel for the DL portion of our trip. I'm waiting for some info I ordered from AAA on their package deals as they seem to offer some good perks. We did stay at HoJo's for our wedding trip, so that's a possibility or maybe PP since that's where we were married. I'd love to stay at GC, but the checkbook doesn't think so! :confused3 :teeth:

I am flying in Friday night and red-eyeing it out Sunday night.
I figure with the time change in my favor--that would be okay. Hubby is in DC (as am I for the next two months :))...so he has to fly home for me to fly out--so this is a coordinated effort we have going.

Diane,
I don't know how to get a countdown ticker, so I do it the old-fashioned way!
I have a small 'motivation' section on the wall of my cube at work that has the picture in my siggie with my Donald medal from last January, a picture of me and Lily with John Bingham in Columbus, a picture of my DS and myself with our Penguin medals from Columbus, I've printed out "The miracle isn't that I finished...the miracle is that I had the courage to start" and pinned a manual countdown to the Chicago half (68 days), DL half (103 days), and WDW full (215 days). It really helps to keep me focused. I will be adding a few other inspirational quotes from the thread that is going on (sorry forgot who started it!). Time flies when you are having fun!! I am so looking forward to seeing my fellow WISHers in DL and WDW.

Hey Pat!
I used to have a pic of me and Susan with our medals at the finish but then I changed jobs and haven't taken them in yet :) I might tomorrow :)
My 2 favorite inspiration things (besides gazing lovingly at my donald LOL) is the song "we go on" from Illuminations. I just love that line "moving foward with the spirit born to run" or close to that. I hear that song and think of all of us starting in the dark waiting to meet that 'new day' and there is a another part to that line that "moving forward as one, with the spirit born to run" THAT'S the entire line! LOL finally came to me. I love that! I hear it and think of all of us moving forward as the fireworks go off.
Recently there is a song on the stations called UNWRITTEN. Lines from it are how the "page is unwritten, ending unplanned" <-- loosely paraphrasing but our race isn't written yet, the ending is unplanned!
"feel the rain on your skin, no one else can feel it for you" <--- only we can run our race, only we can get to the finish line and get those medals and the feeling of accomplishing something amazing.
and "reaching for something in the distance, so close you can almost taste it" <---- i LOVE that line.
I kept bringing it up on Sunday during our 2nd park outing and ended up running 4 sections (distance unknown but rather far for me) and it was very inspiring as I ran over the trail hearing again how only I can run my race and each day I train it's me reaching for that medal in the distance :goodvibes
Natasha Bedingfield is the singer. It's a POP song.
Did everyone recieve the DL newsletter in their email today? I'm not sure if it will forward ok but if someone needs it I can. It's nothing really new but I just love seeing them when they pop up in my email. A nice reminder of something wonderful coming our way :)
I CAN'T WAIT!!! LOL PAT!!! How much longer now? LMBO 9 hours since you last told us? LOL I'd use a bouncing smiley here but frankly they're going to slow for my excited mood

We really have no plans beyond planning on being at the Expo at 10 am on Friday (opening i believe) and we have to check in at the volunteer desk too.
We'll be at the DL Hotel so if you see 4 ladies with Pal Mickeys you'll have spotted us LOL All of us can't wait for our relaxing, fun, be a kid again weekend.
What was the DL email about? I didn't get it--did it come from race registration? I'm just so excited too! We will also be checking in on Friday and volunteering that day too. I'm wondering if I'm the only one that wasn't planning on going into the parks that entire weekend. It's just me and my mom going and I figured she wouldn't be interested in riding Peter Pan with me! Plus we have been at WDW 3 times this year. But now I'm wondering if I will want to at least go ride the new POTC and see the Nemo ride, etc. How could I not? I must rethink this!!
Just got back from 5 miler and it's early here and a great way to start the day! Have a good one everyone!!

I have got to go buy my DL guidebook. I know WDW inside & out but neither me or mom has been to DL. We are going to the parks a couple of days. We have to go check it out since it will be a long time before we go back (if ever) We have thought about volunteering too. What are you guys volunteering for? 5k race or expo? 5k has shorter work time but its so early , expo has longer time but not so early.
As far as WISH meet, we had talked about a pool party at Candy Cane.
Diane-I love that song! It so applies to what we are all doing :goodvibes
My mom and I have volunteered at the Expo. I'm not much of a morning person, even though the time change will help. I was a bit nervous about getting up so early to do the 5K! Now that I'm thinking of going into the parks though I am worried about spending so much time at the expo. I don't want to do a full day in the parks like we do with the kids though. So buying 2 days of tickets for only half days....don't know if I should. I'm looking forward to volunteering though.

Hi, guys, just thought I'd pop in real quick between work commitments.
We are arriving Friday around noon at LAX and travelling to the Candy Cane Inn. Is anyone interested in planning anything for a mid to late afternoon meet on Saturday? I know we talked about a pool party at Candy Cane on Saturday, but haven't heard anything else. I think I decided last night after seeing the course map that we are going to have to go into Disneyland on Saturday so that I can see the park before running through it. I think I am going to be so emotional that it would not be good to see the castle (or the light in Walt's apartment) for the first time on Sunday while trying to complete a 1/2 marathon.
Also, DS13 will be with us, but is not doing the 1/2 and I am hoping that someone else has teens with them who will help make up a "scream team" for the WISHers and that DS can hang out with. Does anyone else have teens who will be at the 1/2?

Hi Cam! Meeting at the pool on Sat afternoon sounds great to me. We are supposed to be relaxing for the next day anyway right !?
We are arriving on Thur, will go to DL on Fri & possible volunteer on Sat a.m.
We are getting 2 or 3 day tickets so we can come & go & have something to do because we will be there 5 days & no car. I figure we won't be in the parks all day without kids we can see everything much faster.

I was thinking we'd get 3 day passes, but am re-thinking that and for about $20 more/person, maybe we'll do 4 day so that we can do a leisurely visit Saturday. I really want to see everything there because I don't know when we will ever get back there.
So, does everyone want to do a meet on Saturday afternoon at the Candy Cane Inn? We can all bring food with us, or meet before or after dinner. Not sure if there is a restaurant on premises. Where is Helen? Hey, Helen, sweetie, any ideas on this?
Can't wait to see everyone!

Hi Cam! Does the CCI allow pool-hoppers? We definitely need some experienced DLers for some direction here! What are some of the options?? I am such a DL newbie!
DH and I are going to get 4 day passes just so we are sure we can see everything since we don't know if we will be back. We are very much interested in any WISH meets. I can't believe how quickly time is going, we will be there before we know it!

I was wondering if we could "pool hop" also. We'll be at the HoJos since the Candy Cane was full by the time I tried to book it.
Chad's friend from Phoenix may be joining us at DL. I am thinking that maybe I coud let the guys go do "guy things" and meet up with my WISH buddies! :teeth:
(side note - this friend used to live 15-20 mins from Disneyland. Single guy, 3 bedroom house. We could stay there whenever we wanted to. THEN he has the nerve to move to Phoenix! ;) )

You know, Pat, the more I think about it, I wonder if we should all meet at an eatery at Downtown Disney, just so we can all get something to eat there and hang out without bothering other hotel guests.
We definitely need to brainstorm this. A friend gave me a couple of DL guidebooks. As soon as I get a chance to read them :rotfl2: I will be glad to share what I learn!

DTD sounds like a good idea. I was lurking on the DL boards, but I havent had time lately. Boy when I get back from WDW training, planning for DL is going to be in full swing. I think there are some CS places so we can get served easier & eat outside.
We changed our reservations from the GC to DLH only because we've stayed at the DLH many times and enjoyed it every time...why fix it if it ain't broken, right?
As for a place to meet, how does the Rainforest Cafe in DTD sound? I'd like to meet some fellow DISers, if that's ok with you... Once we decide on a place to meet, we can post the meet here. (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1073529)

I had no idea which charity to choose. When I read about this one I thought it kind of fit. This rare, fatal disease is a combination of many things, incl. cystic fibrosis. Since my brother-in-law has CF, I thought this was the one for me. I am petrified of not raising the minimum and getting charged for it though! (I hope that doesn't sound too selfish or anything!)

Hi guys - sorry, I've been away, too much work, not enough hours in the day. So re meets, afraid to say that we rarely eat at DTD when we go as it's soooooooo busy so I'm a bit lacking in on-site suggestions. In saying that though, I'd be v v v happy with Rainforest Cafe if we could get in. The other option is ESPN cafe - there was also a Mexican/Latin place there a few years ago too which was nice, but I think it's gone.
I know on the DL board everyone raves about a place called Mimi's - but not been personally. Another possible option, but again I've not been there is the restaurant at the new Sheraton Park hotel - this used to be the Coast, and as everyone who's followed this thread knows that was my old hotel. They used to have a 'family dining' resturant underneath them, and it looks like the Sheraton has kept it. It's called the Overland Stage - now I have no clue what it's like, but I'm just throwing out places I know are walking distance from the Candy Cane/DL.
Anyway, I'll have another think when I get a second - it's 9.53pm here and I'm just popping in to say that I am still alive while I wait for someone I need in England to answer their phone!!!! Helen

Just a thought--what if we just hung out in the bar at DTD. Get there a bit early before the dinner hour. My parents did this at WDW and you could actually order off the menu there.

Hey Lisa, will try and pm you re Friday. I'm going to do the expo as it opens Friday.
And Pat I started training last week as I wanted to get a couple of extra long long runs in. It was fun last night - we had gale force winds and I was running up a hill into a brick wall headwind with branches flying off the trees around me!!! Thankfully I only had to do 30 minutes!
Oh, just found this so thought I'd add it. After another rave review of mimis on the DL board I went on to their website to see if I could send a email to see if they take reservations. Sadly no email address, could anyone in the right time zone maybe call them, as it could give us another option. (714) 956-2223, General Manager DEBBIE ELDRIDGE. Hi, guys! I am excited to say I did the first training session last night from the MfM 14 week walk a half plan. This is the same plan I trained with for WDW. I am hoping to get a new PR at DL compared to WDW. My 30 minute walk pace wasn't great last night, but I am not going to get down about it. I have been so off-track for so long that I am just thrilled to be doing something -- anything -- toward this goal. I am really excited to know I have 14 weeks to get ready.
Lisa and Helen -- Howard, Andy and I will be there Friday night and would LOVE to meet you guys for dinner -- a mini-WISH meet. How fun!! I cannot wait to introduce DS12 to our WISH friends!
Mimi's sounds great. If no one has a chance to call in the next few days, I should be clear by about Friday with some time to make a call.
BTW, has anyone bought park tickets yet? We are going to do 4 day hoppers. I want to spend part of Saturday in DL to see the castle and other sites that might otherwise make me very emotional during the race, since it is our first time ever visiting there. And then we want 3 full to the brim days the week after the 1/2. The cheapest tickets I have found are $169 for 4 day hoppers with the bonus early entry. Has anyone found anything better?

DH and I will be in the parks Thursday through Sunday (hopefully we will still have a few miles in us after the half :woohoo: ), I haven't seen better than $169 for 4 days. I want to get our tickets soon so I don't have to worry about them. We might be able to make a mini-meet on Friday evening, depending on the timing. I want to be sure we see Fantasmic and the fireworks, as I've read they are better in DL than WDW. Saturday night will have to be an early night before the half, and we fly home Monday morning so Sunday will have to be early too. I'm not too concerned about a PR, as long as we are ahead of the sweepers I will be happy :bounce: :bounce:

Hi Team! :wave2:
I have been so excited about participating in the DL INAUGURAL half, but now that I am within the "official" MFM training timeframe I can hardly stand it!! :bounce:
And I am really looking forward to seeing my "old" WISH teammates from WDW in January again, and meeting all the "new" teammates in DL in Sept. My DH thinks I might be just a little nuts when I go on about the Dis...but the support and encouragement that I have found in this group has really changed my life. Just over a year and a half ago I was a confirmed couch potato, but this year I will complete 4 half marathons in 4 states, and I am going to do the full at WDW next Jan. None of that would have been possible without the inspiration that comes from this group. Not to be mushy or anything, but thanks to everyone who found the courage to start moving, who post stories of their triumphs and struggles, and who encourage this penguin that while I will never be the fastest, I am still an athlete. :woohoo:
Looking forward to a fabulous time in DL :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
Hi, Pat. I feel I'm like you having read your last post---although I am just starting my adventures with racing. I did the Minnie last month and will be doing DL 1/2. I had planned on doing the WDW 1/2 but today I started wondering if I will be wishing I did the full for that Mickey medal!! I'm just wondering if I should get another 1/2 done before planning for a full. But I'm also getting older, so I wonder if waiting another 18 months I might not do it for some reason. Decisions, decisions.... I just can't wait for the Disneyland too!!

Hi Deb! After the WDW half last January I developed a serious case of Mickey medal envy. I also talked to a couple of people who had actually walked the marathon and said it was very doable, so then as they say...the rest is history. Especially since Cam was brave enough to commit to the full......
DH and I are walking the Chicago half in August and the DL half in Sept, and I am planning on that leading right into the WDW full in January. I am hoping to find a WISHer or two who will be walking (or at least mostly walking) the full since I will be by myself. I do some intervals on the TM, but in RL I "just" walk. Do you follow a particular training plan? The time commitment for training for the full was one of the biggest deciding factors for me. I've used the MFM half program, and plan to use the full program for Jan. The LWs are going to take up a significant amount of time on the Saturdays over the holidays before marathon weekend. But I've made up my mind that I can do this!
There is plenty of time to prepare for the full if you really want it, but half or full, it will be a really magical experience!
Here's to keeping on putting in the steps!!

I know what you mean about that medal envy. I am proud of & love my Donald medal but boy do I want a Mickey. It only seems right that this "Disney Freak" have a Mickey medal for her collection.
Pat- congrats on registering for the full. I am still contemplating on if I can commit the training time & if my ankles will take it (I have tendonitis) If I do, maybe me, you & Cam can hang out & have so much fun cruising those 26.2 miles that we dont even notice how long will have been walking :goodvibes
Deb- whatever race you do , you will have a great time. When I registered for the 1/2 I had never done a race of any kind. Watch out, its addictive. I have now done the WDW 1/2, Minnie 15k, several 5k's , headed for DL 1/2 and contemplating WDW full for 2007. I am also afraid if I wait until 2008 I might not do it for some reason. This year seems to be my "race year"
I cant believe DL is only 13 weeks away. I cant wait to see everyone in sunny CA! Avg high for Sept looks to be 81 so it should be around 70 for the race. I will love that! Much less hot & humid than what I am training in.
I am just starting my DL research , so I dont know about good places in DTD yet. I think it might be hard to get a group in RFC. Are there any good counter service places like EOS in WDW? I will be there Friday but will probably be in the parks, but I am not sure about schedule yet. Any extra time with my WISH buddies would be great! I will definatley be there for Saturday meet. (I have to go to bed early though, I have something to do Sunday a.m. :teeth: )

Sounds like a plan to me!! My goal for the full is to finish with a chip time of just under 7hrs. Like John Bingham said last Jan (according to LisalovesPooh) "If Disney gives you 7hrs, why be in such a hurry to finish?"
I am hoping to have a faster pace for DL though.....because I am considering the Minnie 15k in May and the 15 minute pace is a little faster than I am used to, but it is something to work towards. Just not for the full. I want to be sure I finish and can get that Mickey medal!!
Can you believe how quickly Sept is coming up? It is practically the 4th of July, the next thing you know it will be time to head to CA. I have got to find the time to do some DL research. Mousesavers had a link to a ticket seller with 4 day DL hoppers for $164ea, and a $10 shipping charge per order. That is about the best I've found. I'm also thinking about doing the Fantasmic dessert thing, it is pretty pricey, but you get elevated seating on a balcony. I'm sure I'm not exactly remembering that correctly, gotta get to that research!!
Take care everyone :wave2:

Pat, we are thinking along the same lines. And yes, John Bingham does say to enjoy the race & not rush through it. I am reading "Courage to Start" right now. My only goald would be to finish ahead of the buses.
I think we are going to get the 4 day passes too & I am also considering the Fantasmic dessert buffet.
It is coming up super fast. The next 2 weeks I will be at church for VBS. Then I'm going to turn around & it will be July. Kids go back to school Aug 2nd so this summer is already flying by. I haven't bought my DL guidebook yet either.

The SouvinEAR ChampionChips for the 1/2 Marathon are up for sale (I think the link is available thru WideWorld of Sports otherwise my link is at home)....
Anyways I'm torn. Do I buy it or not? Who else is buying one for the race? I like the idea of having my own chip simply because who wouldn't want to run with THE Mouse on your foot? :rotfl: I can't remember who else said they had bought one either this year or in a past year.
What if I get to the Expo and I wave it over the scanner and it doesn't work? Will Disney have a spare for me?
Any thoughts? Pros? Cons?
What's the current countdown? I did 2 LWs over the weekend. Saturday was 8 and Sunday was 6. The heat was horrible and I hope it isn't that bad in Sept. My park course is pretty well shaded and I was dreading the sunny areas on the way back. Today is a off day for exercise then back to either a short 3.5 with the dog or DH on Tuesday or the ellpi machine.
Hope everyone else is staying cool during their training!!!

I have no idea about the chip. Other than it being Mickey what would be the point? I'll have to check it out.
As far as the countdown......90 days. It WILL be here soon. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc I can't wait :goodvibes
Anybody have their own chip? I think it would be cool to have it---but that's probably about it. Also, I hated the fact that I had to stop immediately after the Minnie to get theirs off my shoe. :faint: I had been running for too long to just abrubtly stop. I actually told the guy to "WAIT!" Then I figured I had better just get it off then. It's just that they did it like 5 feet after crossing the finish---at least it felt that way to me. If I had my own would it really make a difference?

CAn't wade in on the chip debate as I don't know anyone who owns their own (which I spose as most of my friends run halfs or marathons actually says a lot - although admittedly, none of them have been offered a mouse shaped one) but just thought I'd reassure Diane that I am staying cool during my training - in fact, it's freezing here. The coldest winter I've had since I left England 5years ago - I'm not happy. Apparently the wind is blowing straight up off the ski fields and it's not warming up on the way here. Grrr, I hate cold weather. Still it's the shortest day tomorrow so it's all up from here, hooray. Anyway, I have nothing useful to say, just passing time while I wait for tonights professor in England to answer his phone!! Helen

Pat, I know it is a lot of work, but are you willing to update the roster in the first post to include other information? I'd love to know who is walking and who is running so that maybe the WISH walkers can plan on a strategy to walk together if anyone wants to.
keenercam (Cam)-- mostly walking -- CCI 9/15-9/22
keenho (Howard)-- running -- CCI 9/15-9/22
Cam & Howard's DS13 -- WISH scream team member extraordinaire
Also, can we put a list up front of any kids that are going? It might make it easier to coordinate kid-friendly activities and I would LOVE for my DS13 to find someone to hang out with while Howard and I do the Half. We bought him a WISH SCREAM TEAM tee shirt and he is very "into" being on the course to cheer us on. I just want to figure out how to let him do that safely.
One last thing (yeah, we all know I am a pain in the neck) -- we are arriving LAX on Friday 9/15 and if anyone is travelling alone and arriving roughly the same time and needs a ride to the resort, we'd love to coordinate on that.
Getting really excited about this now.
BTW, Pat, if you would rather I start a new thread on any of this, I will. I just LOVE having everyone posting here. It really feels like family. :) :goodvibes: :grouphug:

BTW, on the chip thing -- when I asked DH about buying it for the 2006 Half, neither of us anticipated needing it or being able to use it for other races. I didn't have a whole lot of faith in myself that I'd be doing enough races to warrant having one.
It might be fun, but I don't think it decreases the registration cost or anything to have your own, and I can think of a lot of things to spend my $$ on since Disney doesnt' charge extra for the chips for our events.
Hi, Tiff! I hope you have fun at VBS! What a great way to spend the next 2 weeks. How is your training going?
I am thrilled to be in the 2nd week of the MfM Walk a Half program and am proud of myself for sticking to it. I, like Pat, am training for something below 15 minute miles since I was able to do that for the Minnie and want to work on constantly improving my pace. I am really hoping to add some short jogging intervals to my walking, too.
Rhonda (who, unfortunately, will not be doing the DL 1/2 with me :sad1: ) was kind enough to give me her guidebooks and I am almost through Birnbaum's. The resort seems very manageable and walkable. :cool1: I haven't had any luck finding a 4 day pass rate lower than the vendor listed on mousesavers. My passport to savings membership goes only to a 3 day hopper and I am not sure it is upgradeable once we are there, so I don't want to take a chance on doing that. I really like that the vendor on mousesaver has the bonus feature, which I think is early entry one morning to one park. That would be fun!
Is anyone else looking at doing any tours? I'd love to do the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour.
I am thinking Saturday may be a good day for a character breakfast and then a relaxed stroll through DL so look at parts of the course and to see the castle! :cloud9: Hopefully spending Saturday afternoon with WISHers at DTD for early dinner and then a relaxing evening and early to bed. I thought Sunday might be a good day to go exploring in the rental car after the 1/2 so that we can rest up a bit. I intend to jam pack the following 3 days with park hopping/exploration.
I think I have to spend some serious time on the DL board to find out about ADR timing, etc.

Is anyone else looking at doing any tours? I'd love to do the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour.
We did this tour in 2003 when I was at DL pregnant with DS. It was great! Since you have the time, and are interested - I'd definately do it!

Hi Cam,
I will be glad to include additional information to the first post.
I've never heard of the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour, but it sounds cool. DH and I have done a couple of WDW tours where you go behind the scenes, very neat! We are flying into LA on 9/11 and heading to Sequoia National Park for a couple of nights. Our reservations at CCI begin Thursday, but I'm thinking we might want to be near DL on Weds evening so we can start out bright and early at DL on Thursday. We'd better finalize our plans.
Unfortunately we leave for home on Monday morning, so we won't have much opportunity to wear our castle medals in the parks. Darn!! That is one thing that surprised me last Jan - how many people wore their medals, and how many people commented on them. After I cleaned up when I finished the half I put on the official half marathon shirt and my beautiful Donald medal and headed to Epcot to email pictures to my family (see siggie). I kind of felt a little self-conscious, and figured I'd take the medal off after the pictures, but so many people congratulated me, and since I was in WDW alone it was a great conversation starter. Even a couple of days later many people were wearing medals, and I was blown away when people with Goofy medals would call out "congratulations" to me. It was so cool.

Woo hoo, its getting sooo close I can't wait. I've already starting accumulating things to bring with me. (as all DIS overplaner/overpackers do )
Cam-thanks for asking, prep work for VBS this week is going great! DS is also in science camp so we are doing alot of running around. That tour sounds really cool! From what I've read DL is much more compact & easy to get around
Pat- OMG 89 days  :woohoo:

Hey Pat, to start the list, I'm running the half. No kids, just Tim on cheerleading duty (although if he has his way he'll still be in bed with his free breakfast when I finish!). Also, is anyone going to be at the CCI Thursday evening, that I could ring. I wouldn't mind having someone to call when I get into the car/shuttle so the driver thinks someone is expecting me. Sorry, old London habit that I haven't got out of when I get in a cab (I've done fake calls before now). Helen

Hey Helen,
What time are you arriving at CCI? DH and I will be checking in early in the morning and spending the day at DL. Don't have any idea what time we will get back to the hotel, but I'll be glad to give you my cell phone number and you can call me even if I am still in the park.

I'm soooo jealous!! I wanna be with you guys as soon as possible. As if it isn't bad enough already that DS is going to miss 6 DAYS!!! of school.
I think we should be to the resort by about 3 on Friday. If anyone wants to PM me their cell phone numbers, I"d LOOOOOOOVVVEEEE to call everyone I know when I land for the first time on west coast USA soil! (The furthest west I've ever been is Indiana). I have a whole list of WISHers phone numbers in my cell phone. They are all under W and start "WISH so-and-so". It is so energizing just looking at them! Okay, I am getting goofy.
Been at work since 7:15 am to prepare for an 11:00 hearing. Back in touch later. Great morning, all! :grouphug:

That's great - tim doesn't arrive till late afternoon the next day so I'm a bit nervous about the whole LAX to CCI thing - I'll be fine once I get there.
I am currently having major fat moment. Just eaten half a pizza - now normally I wouldn't beat myself up over that, but halfway through the pizza Ithought. I don't want any more of this - so what did I do, place it to one side? cover it with washing up liquid so I wouldn't be tempted? No I ate it! Now feel v v heavy and a little bit sick! And it's too cold and dark to go walk it off. Oh well, have to run a bit faster tomorrow! Just the 2 miles to do then, I love 2 mile runs - admittedly as I didn't have time to go today, I have to do the 2 miles after a one hour weight's workout with my trainer when he tries to kill me (and counteract things like the pizza) but it'll still only be a 20 minute run not a 2 hour one. Everyone take care and keep up the training! I am off to Ocean City, MD tomorrow. I am bound & determined to stick to my training for DL. My 12 week plan starts Monday. I can't wait to wog on the Boardwalk in the morning next week!

We've been talking about having a DIS meet on the Saturday before the race. The time and place haven't been decided yet. I mentioned the Rainforest Cafe and a few people like that idea. Others have mentioned places in DTD. I'm up for whichever. It looks like you're a DL veteran. Do you have any suggestions you'd like to throw out there?

Thanks Pat for updating the list! DH (wfloyd) will be mostly running the half. I will be doing the 5K - walk/run. I think Cam mentioned a kids list - we have a DS - age 3. We will be arriving at Grand Californian on Sunday - 9/10, and leaving Tuesday - 9/19. If anyone is arriving that week before, we'd love to meet up! I think we are going to spend one day sightseeing around Hollywood, but the rest will be in the parks.
DH is doing great on his long runs - he did 10 miles last Saturday, and I'm not sure what is on schedule for tomorrow. I have definitely been a slacker on the running - I keep thinking "it's just three miles for the 5K... I can do that in my sleep...." I'm afraid September in creeping up all too fast, though! I don't suppose swimming and biking are going to help my speed much on the 5K! :rolleyes1
We are good for a WISH meet wherever, and although I LOVE Rainforest, I think it may be a bit crowded to get us all together. I like the DTD idea, or maybe a food court in one of the resort hotels.
I'm soooo excited about DL!!! I can't wait to see all the WISHers!!! Keep up the great work on the training!!! :cool1:

Yes, that is right! The DL Half is only 83 days away. Thanks for the update Pat!! Have we finalized any meets yet? I know Cam was talking about calling Mimi's. I've eaten at the Anaheim one a few times and they may have a banquet sort of room. It is not all that large though. Unfortunately, it may be more difficult finalizing a meet at DL due to logistics and the limited number of meeting spaces. Are there any locals on our list who could offer any other suggestions, if need be, for a meeting location?

I mentioned the Rainforest Cafe and, for the most part, everyone liked the idea. The difficulty for setting this place up is determining how many people will be there in attendance. We could put in a reservation in groups of 20 and that doesn't require any deposit. Anything more is considered a banquet where the menu is set(everyone orders the same thing) and a deposit is required. A few mentioned meeting in DTD for some place quick and light. I'm up for that but we haven't decided on where that would be.
Anyone else have suggestions?
BTW, do you DISers wear like team shirts on race day? This is just so I know to keep an eye out for you in the event I'm unable to make it to the DIS meet...

Other Information for us:
Where is Downtown Disney® District located? Can I walk there from the Parks and Hotels? Downtown Disney® District is conveniently located within walking distance from Disney's California Adventure™ park, Disneyland® park, and the Hotels of the Disneyland® Resort.
Is there a separate entrance fee for Downtown Disney® District? There is no entrance fee for Downtown Disney® District.
The Downtown Disney® District parking is located on Disneyland Drive, between the Mickey & Friends Parking Structure and the Disneyland Hotel. Your first three hours of parking are FREE. An additional two hours can be validated at AMC® Theatres and at table-service dining restaurants. After that, the cost is $6 for each additional hour, charged in 20-minute increments.
La Brea would be the only one I would really worry about priority seating. Tortilla Jo's sounds like the cantina in WS. I would be surprised if the $ really was 20 to 30! (for food, anyway!).
Danny Check out our team shirts thread! Uh oh...I don't know if you can still order or not. It says last day to PAY is June 30th...Check with wtpclc/Carrie. If you can't get a shirt or would rather not order one, we try to wear lime green as that's the color for the DIS boards.
OK, I hope this helps! As this is straight off the site, maybe someone who's been there can give us the real low down! :dance3: Anne

Ooh it's getting nearer - training going well so far, although I do have to do an 80 minute run at some point this weekend which suddenly sounds very long! Re meeting, one thing we should also keep in mind is that if we're meeting Sat late afternoon, that's a v important pre-race meal, and so it needs to be fairly carb heavy (ie pasta, pizza etc) so we don't all flake at 18km - just thought I'd better mention it now - mind you, fastest race I ever did was after quesadilla's so I'm definitely up for Mexican too!!! Hi, everyone! Sorry I dont' seem to have posted here recently. Has anyone else experienced "lost posts"? I have posted to the two challenge threads I host and have put updates on there only to have them disappear. I am sad to see an entire post I did here on restaurants also went poof! And not the good kind of poof either. :confused3
My vote would be for Napoli in DTD because the menu looks good and as Anne posted there is outdoor seating. I had actually read about it on the Disneyland forum and was going to suggest it, but didn't remember until Anne reminded me. I think an eatery where we'd have flexibility for people to come and go and to order as much or as little as they want would be best. I know some of us will be coming from the parks or maybe will have ADRs for meals earlier in the day. The great thing about EOS on Minnie weekend was there was no waitstaff that made us feel pressured to eat and people came and went as they pleased. Rhonda and I had done tea at GF and ended up not wanting a bite to eat at EOS, and that turned out to be completely comfortable.
What does everyone think? IF we did Napoli at 4:00 or 4:30 it's early enough for anyone who wants to do something else that night and get to bed early and it may get us there before a dinner crowd. The "carb load" options on their menu look delicious.
I cannot wait to see all of you! We are going to have a blast! party:

Oh, that's an easy one. I am definitely more excited about seeing my WISH buddies! I think the level of excitement goes like this:
1. Seeing WISH buddies
2. Seeing Disneyland for the first time
3. Bringing home a castle medal
It's a shame I have to actually wog 13.1 miles to earn the 3rd and justify the first 2!
BTW, Heather, Sunny designed these awesome lime green WISH Scream Team tee shirts on her cafe press website and I bought one for Andrew. It is awesome! He can't wait to wear it. I think he is as excited about being part of the scream team as he is to visit DL for the first time. :Pinkbounc

Cam, Napoli around 4ish definitely works for DH and I. I am hoping to get our DL passes ordered this weekend, and we still need to decide where to stay on the 13th. We are going to Sequoia National Park for a couple of days before DL, but I think I want to be back by DL on Weds evening so DH and I start Thursday morning in the parks.
I am in week 8 of preparation for the CDC on August 13th, and it is going well, but I'm definitely a penguin. I am hoping to get my pace to around 15mpm in DL. I have found a website with some good tips on techniques for improving your walking pace and that is helping.

Cam I agree with the order of your excitement. I have never been to CA so I am excited about that but having you guys there is doubling the excitement. When I told a friend that I had done the 1/2 in Jan. , she looked at me with a really straight face & said "you'll do anything to go to WDW, won't you ?!"
I can't believe 11 weeks from right now I will be in CA :cool1: I told mom I sure hope we can get thru airport security going home with our big honkin' medals we are going to earn ;)
I think Napolini at 4:00 is perfect. We are like you & may are may not do the park for a little while in the a.m. But some chicken fettucini for a pre race meal sounds good.
Its getting so exciting. I think my mom is getting real excited now too. She keeps ordering things for us. New toiletries bag, totes, etc....
I'd better go get those steps in

YIPPEE!!! I think we have officially scheduled a DIS WISHers meet for Saturday, September 16 at 4:00 at Napoli at DTD. Now, if anything "happens" and the restaurant is closed or anything like that, we will all meet there and then wander to somewhere else close by. But let's definitely make it that time and place.
Hi, Sara! So happy to be here among friends.
Nancy -- So sorry Howard and Andrew and I will miss you and Barry since we won't be arriving until Friday mid-afternoon. I think our flight arrives LAX around 12:30 pm
Well, our airfare is booked and Howard is working on rental car. Seems Alamo will be our best option with our entertainment coupon.
Tiff - Your mom sounds awesome. It must really hype the excitement level to be planning it with her.

4pm Saturday sounds great! I just have to firm up the plan with the hubby though.
I started my official training on the Ocean City, MD boardwalk this past Monday. What a way to start, huh?!
Speaking of that area - Cam (since I know you live in DE), there were soooooo many car accidents (and resulting traffic) in Delaware on our way home today! It was pretty unbelievable. Must be all us crazy tourists!
I may be able to change our DL ressie to the DL Hotel. My charity has a group rate of $169 per night. I love the DL Hotel, and that rate is tempting. I'll have to see what the overall increase would be to change from the HoJos to DLH. This is supposed to be a cheap trip. I am going to eBaying my behind off this summer to pay for it! :teeth:
Tomorrow is my 4 mile long wog. I just hope this cold thing I picked up at OC doesn't get any worse...

Some more info on DL. For those not getting a rental car, you can use Super Shuttle for $10 for a semi-private (up to 8 passengers) van one way. And you can order groceries for your room online from albertsons.com and they will deliver to the hotel on the date/time you request for a flat fee of $9.95, no minimum order. I plan on getting a few snacks, water & diet coke for the room

I just checked the official DL website for park hours and discovered that the Haunted Mansion and Matterhorn will be closed when we are there in Sept :sad2: Darn, and double darn....DH and I were really looking forward to comparing the DL HM to the WDW version. At least there will be plenty of other stuff to see :woohoo:

HM and Matterhorn are going to be CLOSED??!!! Oh, rats!!
Yea, for a meeting time and place!! Thanks, Cam!
The Expo is at the Disneyland Hotel Convention Center. It says our packet will be mailed in late summer...ooooohhhhh, I'm getting excited!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: Is this late summer yet? Is it? Is it?? :rotfl: I was VERY nervous before the Minnie, but after completing that I am a little more confident that the training will see me through. Now, though, I have to think about the crowd that will be there. Minnie was great for me with the smaller number of participants.
Look what I found!!!

I am so bummed about the Matterhorn being down for refurb. Last time we were at DL, I was pregnant. DH got to go on it though!
As long as they don't close down my all-time favorite Indian Jones, I think I will survive.

4.00 Saturday works for me too - I might not eat properly then as my poor jet lagged tummy's going to be in enough of a mess without confusing it by swapping meal times (although show me the way to some cheesecake/apple pie/trifle/something generally gooey and I'm happy) but that sounds a great plan. The worst thing is, I'm going to be 8 hours behind as I'm coming from London, Tim will be 3 hours behind (well actually 21 hours ahead but.....) as he's coming from here, so I'm going to be awake when he's asleep, and vice versa for about 3 days, which could be interesting.
Still, all that aside, definitely count me in - Tim's presence depends on baseball season - if the Anaheim Angels are playing, he'll be there instead (we don't get baseball here so I have to give him his freedom!!!), but the nice thing about DL is that I can walk from the CCI no problems. Hooray......
Trainingwise, did 50 minute run tonight, got 1.10 to do Wednesday so I'm getting there. Speak soon - Helen

I'm Wendy, a walker (well, technically, I run downhill!), and I'm new to the DISboards. I hope it's not too late for me to join your group. I'm from NC and headed to Disneyland for the half and 5K. (Hey, if I'm going that far, might as well go for broke, right?)
This weekend was a "short" 8-miler for me. It didn't seem short -- and I'm hoping having some virtual training companions will make the mileage more interesting -- especially since I'm training for an October marathon so I'm going to be getting into some serious mileage all too soon.
Like some of you, I'm also engaged in a marathon of a different type -- a weight loss marathon! I'd love to be in Onederland by Disneyland. It's going to take a concerted effort on my part.
Well, that's enough of an intro for now. I look forward to following your training (and reporting mine).

Pat- I knew about Matterhorn, but not HM. I really wanted to ride the Matterhorn. It seems really cool.
Krisiti-Indiana Jones sounds really neat, I can't wait to try it!
Anybody else have this song in their head "California here I come, right back where I started from......" It just poped in there this a.m. :rolleyes1

Hey... we were so picked out of the crowd on our honeymoon to be "in" the stunt show... It's a lot better show when the stunts are going on around you! ;) Also highly recommend getting picked out of the crowd to participate in the Lights Motors Action or whatever it is stunt show... We did it in Paris but I think they just added it to a Florida park as well right?
I'm probably flying in on the saturday and out on the sunday for the half (cant interrupt my training, can only take leave on weekends) so I probably won't even have time to visit the park...
Then again, I might buy a 1 day ticket JUST to see the fireworks... In my opinion, the "Dreams Come True" spectacular they've been doing for the 50th is far superior to Wishes at Disneyworld and worth the price of admission alone... If you're a Disneyland fanatic and will catch all the references anyway. ;)

If y'all are wearing yours on Monday then so will Susan and I!!!!! I wasn't sure what we'd do since it wasn't our 'home turf' :rotfl: I know at WDW I will wear it for then entire week this time around. In Jan we wore it on Sat and Sun, didn't on Mon and was bummed because everyone had theirs on. We were at WDW from Thurs to Thurs and everyone from Saturday night of the 1/2 thru when we left had them on and the CMs were wonderful with the Congrats. Never got a look that said 'you're still wearing that old thing' LMBO So wear it with pride and enjoy your days with it!!!!

Thanks so much! I'm doing the Hartford (CT) Marathon in October, the OBX (Outer Banks NC) marathon in November, and (hopefully) Kiawah Island (SC) in December. Last year, when I did the Goofy at WDW, I did a marathon a month from September until December to help me train. It worked pretty well. You'd think I was an athlete unless you saw me, then you'd realize I am actually the poster child for "anyone can do a marathon". I'm 50, at least 40 lbs overweight, and slow as molasses. I enjoy marathons, though -- they feel like such an accomplishment!
And, yes, everyone should wear their medal in the park the next day. At WDW, I wore mine and met tons of other marathoners in the park wearing theirs. Be proud, and celebrate your achievement!
I'm flying in on Thursday and flying out on Wednesday. I'm staying at Paradise Pier. My first (maybe only) trip to Disneyland (NC is a long way from CA) and I'm so incredibly excited.

Wendy= wow what you have accomplished walking! All those marathons & the Goofy :cool1: I am so impressed & you are now my new hero  I have been trying to decide whether or not to do the 2007 full. You've given me more to think about. Until a year ago I was a fluffy couch potato. Now I'm not quite as fluffy (but could lose 50 more) and have done the 1/2 & the Minnie 15k. It's addictive isnt it. I would love to be able to say that in 1 year I did 2 1/2 marys, a full ,a 15k & a couple of 5k's.
This may be my only trip to DL too. I'm in AL & its much easier & cheaper to go to WDW. We have several other NC people here too.

DITTO! Wendy you are an inspiration!
I walked my first Half in WDW last January and am now registered for the Full!
When I am not super excited about it I am terrified! It is great to hear from someone who actually walked the Full. Of course I've learned on this board that one person's idea of slow (even as slow as molasses) is not even close to my idea of slow.
My goal for last Jan was to finish ahead of the sweepers, and finish with a chip time of less than 3:30. Well, I knew I was ahead of the sweepers so I didn't push myself, and I finished in 3:29:27. Cutting it a little close I know, but I didn't expect my niece and her new husband (in WDW on their honeymoon) to surprise me as we entered Epcot for that push to the finish. I still made my goal though (barely!!). My goal for the DL Half is to finish with a chip time of 3:20. And for the full....well a chip time of anything less than 7 hrs would be fabulous!! I am hoping to find a WISHer who likes the slow but sure method for the full as that is a long time to keep yourself going both physically and mentally if you are by yourself.
Looking forward to seeing all my WISH friends soon! :thumbsup2

I am sooooo with you there! I belong to a virtual training group called the Disney Deads -- and I tell the "slow" runners on that list that the only way I'll ever go that fast is on a golf cart!
You can definitely finish the full. I've done it more than once, and though at the 23rd mile I typically swear I'll never do it again, I'm always rushing to sign up again. Last year's Goofy was a more daunting challenge, but I was encouraged by many folks to attempt it and I'm so glad I did.
The only great wisdom I have to impart from all this is that I know now I should never have let not having the perfect body keep me from getting out there and trying new things -- and that's why I hopped on this board as soon as I found it. Here's a whole group of people who are living my life lesson! I need the inspiration! I especially need to get down to a healthier weight.

Yup, Diane, I donned my pink wings and did the Cincinnati Flying Pig marathon way back in 2000. It was great fun, with loads of freebies for the marathoners. And who could resist all the merchandise with the slogan "I'll run a marathon when pigs fly" on it!?!? I hope to go back for the 10th running of the pig, which should be coming up in May 2008 I believe.

Hi, everyone! It is so nice to see everyone here, and especially the "new" faces.
Wendy, I LOVE the pix! Very cool! I am hoping to soon have a picture like that of me holding the Donald, the Minnie, the Castle, and the Mickey!
My time for the half was 3:21:59 and I am determined to finish at 3:15:00 or better in DL -- a solid sub-15 minute pace. Had a very unimpressive 5K earlier this week that has reminded me I really have to lose more weight and get more determined about adding jogging to my training if I am going to do that pace. Since I am doing the full instead of the 1/2 at WDW in January, DL is my only chance to improve my 1/2 time right now.
I can't believe how close this is getting. I guess we'd better decided on PSs and start making reservations soon, too! I started looking at hotels yesterday for the end of our trip when we head to Los Angeles. That makes it very real.
Keep up the training, all! I have a 5K tonight (the first time I've ever done 2 races in one week) and I will be thinking of all my WISH buddies. :grouphug:

I'm hoping they're not so Mom doesn't get swept because I don't think she's taking it seriously.

Officially the minimum pace is 15 minutes per mile. However for the family fun run at WDW, they are not overly concerned with pacing. I think people with 18-20 minute per mile paces were still being allowed to finish last year. I don't know if they will be strict or not but if you can get close to a 15 min/mile pace then I wouldn't worry too much.

My Wife (Beckie), my Brother (Daniel) and myself are all doing the DL 1/2. We are staying at the Ramada Maingate (Saga). Our arrival is Thursday the 14th and we leave the 18th. My wife did the WDW full last year, and I am a Goofy Veteran (going for two!). Looking forward to walking around DL with the castle medal! Thinking about bringing all the medals, actually, for a photo-op with the Mouse! That might make an interesting picture!

In this case, I would rather save the money up and not waste my precious park time sitting on the ground waiting for the show. (and I am usually quite frugal!) It would be a one time thing for us. The first time I saw the show, we could barely see since the park was packed (and we didn't hold spots hours in advance). And the 2 other times I've been out there, Fantasmic was down for rehab. I guess I just want to make the most of it since we won't be going out west again for awhile.
Also, check for DING fares into the Orange County airport - it's the closest to DL. You never know, thy could have a great fare come up.
DH is also running with me - and he's also going to be going Goofy for the second time this year.

Hi everyone!
My DH and I are so excited - we just made our travel plans for the Half!! We will be arriving on Friday night (late) and leaving Monday evening, and staying at the Doubletree Anaheim - $47/night on Priceline, plus $8/night parking fee (grr). We're planning to get 3-day parkhoppers through DH's work for $132, which is the best price we've found so far.
Most exciting is that my parents are coming too! This will be their first trip to DL in over 15 years (at least), and I'm really looking forward to showing them all the changes. I'm guessing the higher prices will probably be the biggest shock. :faint: It will be the first visit to DCA for all of us as well. :sunny:
Count me in for the WISH meet on Saturday!
Hope everyone's training is going well. Less than 10 weeks to go!

Ahhhhh, the less than 10 weeks scares me.
My gallstone attacks were increasing in frequency, duration and pain intensity. I had no appetite, no energy and was losing weight too fast (never thought I'd say that). Finally the surgeon decided I should be on the waitlist (8-9 months) and so my gallbladder was removed on July 4th!
This week I am up and about, the staples have been removed, the incisions are healing and I am eating again, but certainly not running. Next week I am allowed to start long walks again. I am resigned to walking as opposed to running, and I have changed my goal, which was to improve on my 1/2 time from 3:19 to 3:00. My goal is now to start, and if I get to the start line, then my goal will be to finish!
We booked our flights today. We arrive on Thursday 14th, for one night at the Candy Cane Inn. Fri/Sat/Sun we will be at Disneyland Hotel. We = DH and myself from Canada.
Hope to finally meet up and put faces to names!

Just a random comment on airports since I just held a reservation I'll most likely be purchasing tomorrow...
Cheapest airport for me to fly into from my home airport of PNS (Pensacola) was actually SNA (Santa Ana - John Wayne) which is only 12 miles from Disneyland, whereas LAX is nearly TRIPLE that... on one of the world's most traffic jammed freeways no less... I was also able to get a later flight back on Sunday around 2pm which will be much easier to make than trying to make like an 11am out of LAX... You haven't seen fun until you see the security lines at the American terminal at LAX on a Sunday... (born, raised, flew out of, and lived within a few miles of LAX for a couple decades)
TiffJ

Matt-yep, we're flying into SNA. I've been reading on the DL boards & it seems much easier to get to the hotels from there too because of less traffic.
Rachel- :wizard: for a speedy recovery! I'll be at the CCI arriving THur, maybe we'll bump into each other. Also maybe planning a mini WISH meet THur night at DTD since we have a WISHer that wont be there for the race weekend . We'd love for you to join us!
April-Awesome rate!!! I know its ridiculous paying for parking when staying at a hotel but at least you got a good rate to compensate for it. Also just wanted to comment on your awesome weight loss stats :cool1: :thumbsup2 Very impressive!!!!!!
9 weeks from right now I will be flying to the other side of the country!!!!!!! Woo hoo!!!!! :cloud9:

TiffJ - our flight arrives into LAX at just after 7.00pm, so I might be too late for a meet on the Thursday.
Let me know the details and we will try and make it.

Just an FYI - Disneyland's hours for Sept. are online now:
http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/calendar/monthly/monthly?name=CalendarMonthlyPage&date=20060914
The Electrical Light Parade and Aladdin stage show will be gone by the Half marathon. :sad2: That, and the Matterhorn down for refurb? NOT FAIR! :furious: ;)
Now, the problem is seeing Fantasmic! since it's only showing on the weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun). Guess we'll just have to force ourselves to go to DL on Friday, huh? ;)

It was a really good show - and I am not a "show person." I was looking forward to seeing it again. I didn't know they were getting rid of it. :sad2: I knew Haunted Mansion would be down, but now it seems like alot of things a being refurbed or taken away altogether.
I guess it's a good thing there were better flights on Thursday, so we are arriving Thursday night instead of Friday. Now we can hit DL on Friday and see Fantasmic come heck or high water! :)

Hi Team!
DH and I got in a 6 m LW this morning. It was HOT! We only averaged a 16:36 pace, which is fine for the Chicago Classic in a few weeks, but not so good for DL. Man, I do not like this heat!!
I did get us PS at the Blue Bayou for Thursday night before the DL half! I am excited about that :woohoo: :woohoo: . I'm still trying to make up my mind about the Fantasmic dessert buffet, it seems like a whole lot of money to me, but I doubt we will be back to DL anytime soon, ......plus DH checked online and was able to reduce our car rental by $30, and I checked SWA and our flights went down $10 ea, so there is $50 right there!!
I am really looking forward to this!
TiffJ

I think I've decided not to do the FAntasmic Buffet. Just cant justify $50 pp for dessert & a chair. This is supposed to be a budget trip since I'm not taking the family.
I have decided that mom & I are going to Goofy's Kitchen for our celebratory dinner on Sunday & have our pics take with the characters & our castle medals! How cool will that be :cool1: If anyone wants to join us, they are very welcome. The more WISHers the merrier! I will probably shoot for early dinner around 4 to 4:30 since I know we'll be tired & are hitting the parks Monday.

Hooray, hooray, we bought our Park Tickets yesterday. We went for 5 day hoppers as they have a deal on which means (in true woman logic) the 5 day at discount was only $10 more than the 3 day at full price so I'm thinking it's a bargain. And it lets us nip in and out to various parade's on 'non official' disney days which is good as we have so many other shopping and sports things we must do. Helen

Sounds great, Helen. My logic is much the same. Of course, all my plans are thrown into disarray seeing that Fantasmic is only over the weekend and park hours are so short the week after the 1/2.
Did you go through ARES on mousesavers? Or did you find another good deal somewhere?
Hey, I think I haven't shared this happy news yet -- we are at the CCI starting Friday for 4 nights, then moving to the Grand Californian Hotel!!! Training going okay - I'll get up to 2 hours running over the weekend, which might sound a lot for 59 days out, but I'm actually training a lot less than I would normally for a half (not that this makes me go any faster, it just means that the 2+ hours I'm out there don't hurt as much).
And wow, talk about service - my tickets have arrived already. I only ordered them Tuesday and they've had to come half way across the world. Getting very excited now. Helen

Hi, everyone! Glad to hear everyone is training and getting psyched!
I have been pretty good about sticking to the training plan, though I flipped last week's 3 mile LW with this week's 6 miles because we are doing a 5K tomorrow. SO, I did the 6 miles last Saturday and the 3 will be tomorrow.
Next Saturday will be 7 miles, which will be very difficult because we will be away and I don't expect to be able to fit that LW in. We will be walking around Busch Gardens and Water Country USA all weekend, but I really don't want to count on that in place of training. I am going to really have to figure this out in the next several days.
In the meantime, I am very frustrated about everything that WON'T be going on at DL. HM will be closed for holiday fitout, and I think Matterhorn is closed too. Fantasmic is only Friday and Saturday and Sunday nights, I believe. And Aladdin is not playing at all. IF all of that is true, I am disappointed to miss all those things. Maybe the schedule will change by the time we get there.

Since you've never been to DL, you'll be so amazed in all of the differences you won't even miss the closures. It's also an excuse to HAVE to go back. :confused3 Being a WDW expert myself, it was wonderful to see DL for the first time and not really know the "ins and outs." You'll have a blast, especially since you're at the Grand Californian!!
Helen - Glad to hear training is going well and your tickets have arrived.
Anne - Thanks so much for the countdown!! I am way too excited.
Since I am not really training for this event, my mileage has been on par with my schedule for a full marathon in October. Staying injury free is my main concern.
I hope training is going well for everyone with only 8 weeks left!! :woohoo:
Where's Lily with the WISH team cheer? Okay, at the risk of sounding like a total geek (old-timers don't laugh), I will admit to chanting the WISH team cheer to my girls this morning. THUNDER, THUNDER, THUNDERATION...
We had ordered matching lime green shirts for WDW in January when we're going to be the scream team for DH during the 1/2 and I was explaining to DD5 why the shirts are lime green.
I can't wait to see my WISH friends again  Be well.

Hello, Teammates!! :cheer2:
After seeing all of these great count down tickers, I made myself investigate further..and got one for us! Pat has it on the first page of this thread so we'll know right where to go to see how many days left...if you need to!
I ordered a Guide to Disneyland 2006 book that arrive yesterday. DH last visited DL in 1997 and my last visit was in 1979..so figured it was best to get updated!! Already disappointed though, as Napolini's is not even mentioned in this 2006 edition!! Had to go to the DL website to reassure myself!! It does say that it's the newest restaurant, so maybe that accounts for the guide's non knowledge!
Helen, great job on your training
Cam, as Sara says, you'll have a great time cause you'll be with your family in DL, regardless of what's not open. That will just leave more time to enjoy those things that ARE open! ::yes::
Sara It cracks me up that DL is part of your training plan for your marathon in October!! :lmao: You go, girl!!
Keep on getting that training in! It really will be here before we know it! :dance3: Anne

Hi Team!
My training is going well. Tomorrow I have a 10m LW as part of week 11 preparation for the Chicago Distance Classic. The CDC has a very generous 4 hr time limit, and I intend to use most of it, as my main focus is preparing for DL and that beautiful castle medal.
Cam, I ordered our tickets online directly from Disneyland, $169ea for a 4 day hopper bonus pass, that included tax and shipping. We also got a coupon for 10% off $50 purchase or 20% off $100 purchase. I won't have a problem spending that!! I am still debating if the Fantasmic dessert buffet is worth the $$$.
Keep up the good work everyone, and I'll see ya real soon (insert best Mickey Mouse voice!)

I am still so sad I can't do the CDC, but it is DD17's last weekend home before colleg and I just couldn't justify the cost right before DL.

I think we are going to go with the ticket source recommended on mousesavers. We end up getting a 5 day hopper with one bonus for $173, I believe and we have figured we will really need to be in the parks the weekend of the 1/2 because some stuff won't be going on come Monday. There is a $10 shipping charge, but that still makes the effective cost of 5 day hoppers less than $180 each.

For all those of you who think its too late to get really serious about this race...
Can you run 2 miles twice during the week, and run a long run of 4 miles on the weekend? Have you been doing close to that for at least a few weeks?
Then try this plan out:
http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,5033,s6-51-55-0-2197-3-1X3X6X8-5,00.html
It's a beginner's half marathon plan that starts with exactly the workouts I just mentioned, slowly increasing distance as it goes. It's 8 weeks long so that's right, if you start it on Monday (which happens to be a day of rest, so Tuesday) then it will culminate with the Disneyland Half Marathon right on schedule!
The longest run you'll do is 10 miles late in the program, which is a great mental accomplishment for those who haven't made it that far yet. I've completed a half once before, but have gained a bit of weight since, so I'm using this plan to try to beat my previous time. By the way since I'm forced to do PT three times a week I just changed the long run to Monday, which puts the shorter runs on Wed and Fri. Feel free to move the week forward or backward at the beginning to fit your schedule! It might alter your final week a bit but that's pretty flexible with the days of rest.
For those who are especially motivated, if you follow up the Disneyland half by jumping right into the beginner's marathon training schedule on the same site, you'll time it perfectly for the Disneyworld marathon. That's my goal anyway!
Good luck for the final 8 weeks everyone! I'll certainly be out there!

Thanks, Helen! I just looked again and found that option. I couldn't find it before. It comes out to only $5 more than ARES total, but with the coupon that is included, I am sure that will more than make up the difference. Thanks again! :goodvibes

Oh, I am jealous of those of you with 5 days in the parks. DH and I will only have Thurs-Sun. We fly home early on Monday, so we won't even be able to wear our medals in the parks other than Sunday.
I guess I should add (before you all feel SO sorry for me) that DH and I are flying into Vegas on the 4th (staying a couple of nights at the Orleans for free) and then heading to Bryce and Zion National Parks for some hiking. Then we head back to Vegas for one more night, then off to CA and Sequoia National Park for a couple of nights before heading to DL and the Candy Cane Inn. I would have much preferred to do DL at the beginning of our vacation, but DH couldn't get time off, so......we will just have to make this work!!
I think someone had mentioned they were going to be in Vegas before DL too, if so...there is a Disney outlet at one of the discount malls, full of DisneyLAND items. On our last trip to Vegas I was able to get some pretty good DL bargains. And speaking of bargains, our Dollar car rental has gone down in price twice since DH booked it online, saving us $50 - if you rented a car online you should see if the same thing can happen for you.
I am looking forward to seeing you all soon :wave2: :wave2:

Not here but I'm expecting them to arrive soon. For January they were suppose to be mailed sometime between the 1st and mid Nov, I wish I wrote down the date I received mine back then but I think it was somewhere in the teens. So that is like a month and a half. I would think our Sept packets are due anytime. I don't know if they listed a ship date for WDW last year on the site but I am checking daily to see if they make an announcement. I can't wait to know my bib # :cool1:

I was also excited to read in today's newsletter that there will be a food stop during the race! According to the email:
Clif will be providing Gel Shots on course at Food Stop #1, located at Mile Marker #9, as well as offering Builder Bars for runners at the Finish Line.
Assuming I can stand the taste of the Gel (fingers crossed), I'm so glad to hear that hopefully I won't have to carry food during the Half!
I got the newsletter too. I'm getting so excited! I don't think I could stand to eat though---will I really want food at Mile 9? But if you have never eaten the Gel Shots I would not recommend doing it for the first time the day of the race, or during it. I eat a specific energy bar before I exercise but I know to eat it about 20 minutes prior to because I usually have to get a drink and go to the bathroom after it. You never know how your body will react. Keep an eye out for those packets!!

If you've never tried it before, I'd also encourage you to sign up for the live runner tracking during the event. Basically you give them a runner's name and an email address or cellphone or pager number and when the runner's chip is read along the course, the times are automatically sent to the recipient.
I used it during the half and marathon last year to let my family know how I was doing on race day. Be aware that a confirmation is sent to the email/phone/pager and the recipient has to confirm the request from that email/phone before race day to get the messages.
It was cool for my family -- and cool for me to see those emails with all my stats at work and at home when I returned.

I sure hope that's not pathetic 'cause I'm in that club too. I was so excited yesterday when I realized that we will be running the bases in the Anaheim Angels stadium. How cool is that? We also get to run on Main Street twice! This may be the coolest course ever: CA, DL, the road from Grease, and running the bases at a major league baseball stadium. Hi debM: the road from Grease is Thunder Road, where they race the cars at the end. It was filmed in part of the Santa Ana 'river' which is basically the big flood sewer that flows through LA. We get to run alongside it, which caused me most excitement as even now at 37 I want to be Rizzo!!!
I've hit a wall in my training, I cannot make myself get up to 2 hours, I keep stalling at 1.50 - now I know this might not sound like too much of a trauma, but normally by this point in my training 2 hours is my normal run - and it's going to take me 2.30-2.40 to get round on the day so I need to buck up a little bit. Any enthusiasm you can send me would be very helpful.
Other than that though all is good here - Helen

Helen, you've probably moved past your "stall" by now, but what usually works for me is mentally breaking the miles up into segments. Depending on the day, I may think of my 8 miler as a 2-mile run/walk (and tell myself "Anyone can do two miles"), followed by another 2-mile run/walk ("Well, I'm halfway through now"), followed by another 2-miler ("After this one I'm practically through"), and finish up by saying "When I get to 7 miles, I have less than a mile to go -- there's no way I can't make it less than a mile!"
So even though I've done 8 consecutive miles, in my mind I've only done a couple of miles at the time. I know it seems silly, but it seems to make the longer run/walks easier for me.
I've finished many marathons this way, starting by thinking of them as a string of 4-milers. Somehow it seems not so intimidating that way.
At any rate, with your experience, I'm sure you'll break the 2-hour barrier with no problem.

"How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." As Wendy said, just break it down and you will be able to push past the mental barrier. We all get scared once in a while for various reasons. You'll get past it Helen. Looking forward to seeing you in DL.

I used that method on one area of our park and later measured it and I had run my first 0.25 mile in 2 1/2 minutes which I was thrilled but breathing so hard I thought my throat was going to burst from soreness. I've since done it again but at a slower pace so that I can go on and run another section using your breaked up method.
Sadly in this heat I haven't run anything consistantly in over a couple of weeks. :( I've had the last 3 days off here in MI due to the 100+ heat index.
Breaking up the distance is a wonderful game to play :) Nothing planned so I'm not disappointed in myself but rather thrilled that I did what I thought of as very good :teeth:
They say the distance races are MENTAL games ;)
Hope everyone else is getting in their training in cooler temps. Stay safe in these hotter days and can't wait to see everyone wandering DL next month...
OH AND ONE LAST THING..... I was driving home last night and switched stations and got to hear SUMMER NIGHTS!!!! I grinned the entire way home from that point and actually laughing as I listened to the song thinking of all of us getting to run Thunder Road next month and then followed by the Baseball field. Woohooo!!!! It's gonna be great!!!!
Stay safe all!!!

P.S. WENDY - I'm a Disney Dead too :)
Yo, Sara, always good to hear from a fellow dead! I was thinking the other day: I'm the only person who can say with pride that I'm a W.I.S.H.ful Dead Penguin. I've had folks from all three groups encourage me -- and as an overweight, adult-onset wannabe athlete, I've been tremendously grateful for the support. My family of highly competitive year-round swimmers doesn't get why "just finishing" a race is enough for me -- but I love it so, even the view from way in the back of the pack. What an awesome opportunity to run/walk through the parks I love so much. I am so very blessed!

I truly have no need for speed. However, I love that group and enjoy the humor :rotfl2: I've been amazed at your numerous achievements!! You're definitely an inspiration. :woohoo:

No packets for us yesterday, I am keeping my fingers crossed for today!! DH and I will be arriving at CCI on Weds the 13th instead of the 14th, which means we will be able to start at DL bright and early on the 14th. I need to find time to do some more DL research. I am so comfortable planning for WDW, but DL is a whole new world!!
And can I just say that adult children are detrimental to my training? After my 10 mile walk a couple of weeks ago I felt great. Then I weeded for 2 hrs at my DD's because she was having an open house while she was out-of-town. Ouch! My leg muscles were not happy. I'm just getting back to normal. My DS and DDIL are moving into their first home, so I have been over there every night this week cleaning. Again, not so good for the leg and back muscles. Tomorrow is the official moving day and I am supposed to walk 5 miles, not sure how I am going to fit that in. But at least the temperature has cooled down!
Looking forward to seeing everyone in DL! Don't forget our WISH meet Saturday at Napoli's (did I spell that right??).

Chad's packet came today, and since he is not home right now - I opened it!
We also signed up for the 5k as well. I think the medal is going to be Pirates. Now that is pretty cool & worth doing a 5k the day before!
I am really starting to get excited now. I'll be in the back with all my fellow Penguins.

What time at Napolini's??? I don't know how much time I can or if I can but I really want to stop by and say Hi to everyone before getting toted off by my travel group :) Although if it's close to when Susan wants to eat it might work out that we can stick around longer :)
Can't wait. No mail yet today.

Now I'm bumbed I'm not signed up for the 5K too LOL But that would be a very very kewl medal and I hope it is because that will be Cathy's 1st Disney race and therefore 1st Disney medal and she LOVES the Pirates movies and LOVES Johnny so that would be outta this world perfect AND it will be on her 50th b-day REALLY! She turns 50th that weekend so how extremely kewl that would be. Now I'm really hyper to get my packet LMBO! Thanks Kristi for the info keeping my fingers crossed that it is!!!! I cannont believe that 6 weeks from right now I will be hanging out in DL.
Pat-I'm with you. I can tell you what ride to go to in what order on what day for WDW but I have no clue about DL. It should be easier for us though since we wont have kids in tow.
I think we said 4:00 for this WISH meet, right?
Pat-we'll be getting to CCI on the 14th & doing DL on the 15th so hopefully we will run into each other before Saturday.

No packets here in the desert Southwest. I had hoped that being closer to DL would make my packet get here earlier, but I guess they are mailing them from the East Coast.
Hearing everyone talk about their packet is making me want mine more!!!
We will be walking distacne (Ramada Maingate) so no courtesy shuttles for us. Just a nice warm up/cool down walk to the start line.

I got mine today! Woohoo! The programme looks pretty nice, too! Maybe I'm weird but I think I'll take care of this programme and put it away. It might make a nice collector's item in the future...

Pat -- You are such an awesome Mom! You KNOW all that counts as cross-training, right? :teeth:
Kristi - Now I wish I'd signed up for the 5K. I'm not sure why we didn't. :confused3 I'm very into collecting these medals.
Hey, Anne -- Very cool on the #16 magic! But you didn't say what your number is. :sunny:
Tiff-- I want your number! 143 is a special number for Howard and me and we are always excited when we see it show up somewhere.
BTW, I didn't see the CCI on the list of Good Neighbor Hotels from which shuttles are running. Did you? I am thinking I wouldn't mind walking to the start especially if it serves to stretch my hamstring/hip, which could otherwise be a big problem.
I can't believe the 1/2 is 6 weeks from tomorrow. I was feeling very concerned and unready this morning, but keep reminding myself I don't need to do a sub-15:00 pace for 13.1 right now, that I am training to do it in 6 weeks. :cool1:

Carrie???? You know I'm watching this thread closely to see if you've gotten yours in the hopes that means mine will be here the same day or within 24 hours :rotfl2:
BTW, did our 6 mile LW this morning tomorrow is a 10 mile LW and for these we are just doing the distance (chatting the entire way!) especially after a week of laziness. 10 will be as high as we go but I'm excited to get one in tomorrow it will reinforce a positiveness in me that I WILL finish and boy do I need that after this past week of heat and being a couch potato.
Eagerly awaiting the postman in MI,

Got my packet too! #6970. I've already read through everything. I agree--cool collector's item booklet. I am wondering for those that have done the races at WDW---do we really have to be IN the race area by 4:30AM?!?!? I am walking from the GC. I don't think I have too far to walk. I know it said that cars would have trouble with roads being closed but will I have trouble walking over around 5ish?!?! I think I will fall asleep if I'm there at 4ish and then the race will start and everyone will be running off around me and there I will be sound asleep on the side of the road!

Wendy & Sara-what's a Disney Dead?
Cant wait to see you guys on the left coast!!!!
Tiff, a Disney Dead is a member of a virtual (email) training group explained here:
http://www.disney-deads.com/WelcomeInfo.html
It's a smaller offshoot of a huge email running list called the "Dead Runners Society" -- a name based on a movie called "The Dead Poets' Society". Basically these are folks of varying degrees of running talent that share their love of running by emailing each other about training and races (much as the W.I.S.H.ers do). The Disney list focuses on the Disney races (and training for them) in particular. The membership of the group changes from year to year and, as Sara indicated, has of late has been comprised primarily of pretty speedy folks. At least they are typically pretty nice speedy folks, though. ;)
I have a soft spot for the Deads as they coached me through my first WDW marathon back in 1998.
Now, back on topic -- My packet arrived too! I'm #7457! So excited about my first trip to Disneyland and celebrating my 50th birthday there!

Hi Wendy!
If you are the Wendy I think you are, I think we've met!!! My husband Scott is on the Dead list too. I think we maybe met last year at the WDW marathon? You were there with your family.
Anywhoooo, we are doing the DL half. (Well, Scott is running and I am waddling it with 3 of my sisters.)
For anyone that's interested, the Deads are a FABULOUS group of people from ALL OVER the world. DH and I went to Belgium in May and met up with a gentleman from the Deads list and his family. They were absolutely the nicest and most generous people ever!
Hope to see you all at DL. (I will be the short pooh-sized gal at the back of the pack trying desperately not to get swept!)

I'll supply a life size cut out for the 3.30am photo thanks!!! Hi, Tracy! :wave2: Wow! This is like old home week! Yup, I was there last year -- went Goofy and got my 5K and Mickey/Donald/Goof. It's so nice to know those very speedy Deads have folks more like me in their families -- I always think they must roll their eyes and shake their heads when they see my posts. I hope we run into each other at Disneyland. It's nice to know even though I'm a long way from home, I'll have some of my "family" there on the west coast!

Chad's number is the highest I've heard so far, and now we know there are at least 11,666 participants, right?
I've never been to DL but I had the impression the area is much more congested than WDW, so I'll be curious to see how they handle crowds.
