I'll be there with ya, Wendy! :teeth:

Me too!

I think there should be a special Penguin award for the WISHer who finishes closest to the 3.5 hr limit......did I mention that I finished the WDW half in 3:29:27?? :rolleyes1 Yep I am definitely a penguin, although I do hope to pick up the pace a little bit.

DH and I are doing the Chicago Distance Classic Sunday, it will be his first half. We plan on using most of the 4 hr limit since DL is just around the corner. And, some really good news - the weather looks like it is going to be perfect.

Good luck to you both in Chicago! pixiedust:

I'm all set to do the RnR Half in Va Beach in about 3 weeks (Sept 2). Typically that is one hot race -- I envy you your good weather! Like you, I plan on taking it easy at the RnR Half with its 4 hour time limit.

Pat- Good luck on CDC this weekend. My time for WDW was 3:30:something we had a 7 minute delay waiting for a porta potty. I plan on going fast enough to avoid the sweepers but slow enought to soak it all in & enjoy. This will probably be my only time at DL.

Wendy-WOW! you are doing VA Beach right before DL. Good luck, have fun & be careful so you arent injured for DL. But I know you are a pro at this by now so its no sweat for you (well as hot as it is, maybe a little sweat) :cheer2:

Tracy-welcome!

Pat -- Good luck to you and DH on the CDC -- I really wanted to be there! I envy you that penguin medal. Maybe next summer! :cool1:

Wendy -- You and Kristi and Pat and I can all vy for that WISHer penguin award. :teeth: I am another one of those people who really likes to soak it all in -- take pix with the characters, pix of the parks, etc. I would like to do better than my WDW 1/2 time.

I have no races on the calendar until the Armstrong Foundation 10K in Phila on 9/10. Between now and then I just have to focus on losing some weight and picking up my pace and endurance. Yeah, that's all! ;)

Good luck Pat on the CDC!!!

Wendy when you get back from the RnR VA Beach race please post your thoughts, temps and such. I'm interested in doing this one in 2007. According to a newsletter Mr Bingham sent out that finally got Susan to agree to 2007 .... the course if flat and very waddle friendly? How flat? Flatter then WDW's Half course? I have a relatively flat pancake route we train on, our little hills are ant hills compared to the overpasses at WDW

Oh and I was just barely ahead of Pat at 3:28. Wish we had been in the same area. Pat my clock time was 3:44 what was yours? I remember looked after the race when I noticed our chip times but can't remember now.

What do we have now 5 weeks and days left to go? Is it Carrie or Pat responsible (LOL) for keeping us posted on how long until we PAR-TAY in DL?

Editted to add: It must be Pat! Why did I think Carrie was doing DL? A quick look at the list and she's not listed :(

Oh and I'm 10159 :teeth: I'm desparately hoping Susan and I will be in the same corral to counter each others worries before the start. In January I had a vein that was going to blow right behind my eye and Susan was I think having a heartattack. Nothing to really kid about but were we starting to panic so bad I had the worst headache and Susan was making herself sick. :sad2:

It is extremely flat. It is unbelievably flat. I looked up my race report from last year and one part says:
What is worth remarking on is the bands and cheerleaders along the course. My favorites this year were the cancan dancers (half of whom were male "cross-dressers" who danced to "Pretty Woman" as I came by), and the Santa crew wearing Santa hats and those t-shirts with shapely bathing-suit-clad caricatures silk-screened on them (front and back) who were stationed just before the bridge at the 8-mile mark chanting "North Pole, Good and Cold" and "The bridge is flat!" to encourage us up and over the only significant bit of elevation on the entire course.

It really is a fun race. Like I said, my only complaint with this one is the temps. Last year was the coolest it's ever been and I still got so overheated that I was sick at the finish. But, you know, I'm very round and don't do all that well in the heat even when I'm not racing. I did much better (when everyone else was complaining about how cold it was!) during the Disney marathon and half -- It was perfect for me! 40's to 60's is my ideal race temperature range.

Tiff, you're never too "pro" to be careful! Guess which marathon is the only one I've ever DNFed (did not finish)??? The WDW marathon a few years back! I had heard runners say "it just wasn't my day" and had never understood it, but that year I struggled to the half and dropped out and collected a Duck instead of my Mickey. I had trained, and I thought I was ready, but it was not meant to be. Certainly, it taught me a very powerful lesson about being satisfied with doing your best on any given day -- and also remembering that rest is as important as training hard. (I really think I just pushed too hard right up until race day and I was exhausted.)

Last year, I got my Goofy, though, so I sort of redeemed myself. But I will definitely take your advice and be careful! (And I'll have fun too!) Thanks!

Thanks Wendy!!!! The Cancan Dancers and Santas sounds like a hoot! Glad the bridges aren't all that bad too :)

We too prefer a slightly cooler temp to train/race in and were actually very very happy this year at the Half. Though there was a few spots where the wind was chilly coming across the parking lots before the Contemporary. I happily kept my running jacket either on or tied around where as Susan was actually getting hot and ended in a short-sleeve tee. Back in the winter we were actually out in the 30's and thought we were in a heat wave when it was over 40's. And actually ended some of those 40's wearing our jackets at the waist.

I'm hoping Sept at DL isn't all that hot but even so we have gone out on mornings when our local temps were going to reach the 90's later in the day so hopefully we are prepared for whatever the temps are.

Good luck with the weather at the RnR!!! :cheer2: and THANKS tons for that insight I can't wait to tell Susan. I know we'll have a blast when we do it in 2007.

Thanks everyone for the good luck wishes on the CDC. It looks like the weather is going to be pretty decent (keeping my fingers crossed).

I finished last January with a clock time of 3:42:11, so Diane, we were pretty close. I started at the very front of corral F.

Now for the countdown....drumroll please......38 days until the DL half. Everybody remember that we are going to meet Saturday at 4:00 at Napolini's(??) in DTD. Anne will have a green WISH flag, and I will bring some name tags. This is going to be a blast!!

Thanks for the link! I am such a DL newbie!

I remember reading about a couple of useful tidbits....if you have a Disney Visa you can get a free 5x7 picture taken at Ariel's Grotto/DCA by 11:30AM every day. For those of you with the Visa card and staying past Sunday you can get a professional pic wearing your gorgeous castle medal.

ETA: of course you speedy folks will have time to do the half, get cleaned up, and get to DCA for a pic before 11:30. Us slow-pokes might have a harder time!

Another option is similar to the Epcot Innoventions kiosk where you take your own picture to email home (see my sig), Buzz Lightyear has something similar at its exit. I jotted this stuff down a couple of months ago and just found it in my vacation folder, so I am not sure it is 100% accurate, but it is worth checking out. :thumbsup2

I am looking forward to seeing all the WISHers very soon!

I finally received my packet last week - I'm # 2757. :teeth: My DH is busily planning his cheering route - using his unicycle, of course! ;) No really, he'll be zipping around on one wheel, cheering me (and any other WISHers he sees) on all along the racecourse.

We've planned a celebratory lunch at the Blue Bayou following the race - nothing like a Monte Cristo sandwich to replenish the body, ya know. :) I'm really looking forward to the WISH meet on Saturday as well. Do we need to officially "sign up" for the meet, or can we just show up? Is the meet at Naples or Napolini?

My long run for this week was 7 miles - my longest run ever! Training is going well, so hopefully I'm still on track for running the entire way. I certainly never believed I would even attempt a half-marathon of any sort 3 years ago when I started my journey to a healthier me - and now I'm going to RUN one. :goodvibes

Have a great day, everyone! Keep up the hard work!

Hi All - sorry, so busy no time to check on the other thread so figured I'd catch up here. Can't believe it's so near - I fly to England next Wednesday, then agggh, its here. Haven't got my packet yet but I'm sure it'll appear in the next couple of days.

Currently more worried about not being able to travel with my running kit in my hand luggage than anything else - I knew they've relaxed the regulations now but I don't want to carry too much as the screening bods are probably stressed out enough without wading through my top, shorts, sports bra and trainers! I will have to wear my trainers back from London though, I daren't risk losing them three days before the half!!! It's a bit of a concern though as I'm not sure they're 'social' enough to take off on an aeroplane!!! See, another example of how running warps your brain, that was all I could think about when I heard the news - not, 'oh no, how frightening,' but oh no, what about my trainers!!!

Anyway, hope everyone's training is going well. I did my two hours at the weekend, The weather here has been very rainy so I headed out Saturday, got soaked 20 minutes in then turned round, so the next day I went to the gym, run 8km round the outside track until the rain came again then did 8.5km on the treadmill. I'm hoping it's nicer this weekend for my 18kmer.

Anyway, better go as have so much work to do before I go its scary, but thought I'd just say hello, I'm still here. I'll try and check in before I go, or at least in England, but see you all soon. Helen

During our surprise cruise with our DD's over the weekend, DH and I have decided we are not going to make the trip to DL this year to run. I just can't bear the thought of seeing DL without my kids AGAIN. We are also going to WDW for 12 days in November/December and I want to make the most of that time with my kids.
I am not really sad about it, excpet not being able to see you guys, so I know in my heart it is the right decision for us at this time. Best of luck to all in your training and I hope to see most of you at WDW in January '07.

After you ride Buzz light year you can email your picture home for free.

Also the stitch email thing is in Innoventions. Its the big round buildig that is rotating in Tomorrowland. Theyhave lots to see and do in there too. Stitch is upstairs and you sign up to meet him. Its very cute very much like the technology used in meeting Crush. He is quite animated and will joke with you if you tease with him. At the end of your visit he takes your pictrue and they give you a card to retrieve it once you get home. Its very worth doing. Its located right next to the Asimo theater (By the way a great show too. I really need an Asimo but my husband said we need a bit more money first. he cost in the millions Im sure.)

Hi all - I can't believe I leave Wednesday. Not least because my packet still isn't here. I'm going to have to call tomorrow if it doesn't arrive today and see if they can send me one to the hotel otherwise I won't have my waiver etc when I turn up at the expo. I spose they don't expect people to leave 3 weeks before the race!!!

Nancy: are we still on for lunch on Friday. I've got your cellphone no so I'll give you a call when I arrive Thursday night (about 8pmish) and we can sort a venue. Will see everyone else Saturday - if not before. If anyone wants to PM me their cellphone number I'll be able to pick these up next week some time. See you all soon - oh, and if they still have all the handluggage restrictions in place, just thought I'd warn you. Gel shoe inserts and Gu/other sports gels are on the banned list as well as the obvious stuff, I wouldn't have thought about them at all. Helen

Helen,
If you still have a copy of your email when you registered online, you might want to bring that along as proof. Maybe a copy of your credit card statement that shows the charge amount might help, too. Helen, looking forward to seeing you on Fri. Turns out we might be sticking around later that day than I'd originally planned. Wish I'd planned to arriva a day earlier, but I didn't so now it looks like we will make our drive to San Diego much later on Fri than we'd planned. Hopefully there will be less traffic on our drive by going later. Good luck with getting your packet. Maybe they can send you the info online so you can just print it out. If not, hopefully they will have copies of the waiver at the expo for emergencies like yours.

Lynnda, still hoping to meet up with you, too. We arrive on Mon 9/11 and at this point expect to spend all 4 days in Disney. We were going to spend a day at Knotts, but Ghostrider will be down for rehab so now DH doesn't want to go there. Our schedule is really very flexible, especially now that we will be in Disney for 4 days.

Hi Nancy, that's good - I've Pm'd you my cellphone number. Still no packet, I called them this morning and they've said it's fine so long as I come up on the registration thingy online, which I do, but I do also have my confirmation email. I have mailed them and asked if they can send out a new one to my mum's in the UK, or to the Candy Cane so we shall see. If it turns up here, the worst thing that happens is Tim has to bring it with him and I go the expo Saturday instead of Friday. Anyway, gotta go, leaving for the airport in 40 minutes and not had a shower yet!!!!!! See you all soon.

Hi Helen and Nancy,

DH and I arrive on the night of the 14th. Are you open to extra company on Friday?

Nancy, we have met briefly before......we were at dinner and the huge wish walkers photo at Trails End in Jan 2005! (I think I am actually sitting beside you in the group photo)

Helen, I don't have my race package yet either. They told me it would be fine. But I wanted to get my packet in the mail...part of the anticipation.

Me again, I'm at the airport wiht nothing else to do but play on the internet
! Rachael, that's made me feel better about my missing packet, you're a lot nearer than me after all!! I'mnot worried about what happens when I get there, just try and stop me running this race, I have a confirmation email and I will use it!!! I just want the little book to get all excited with.

Anyway, I'm going to head to the main thread now, about time I caught up with news there. Helen

Guess what everyone?! My DH just surprised me with a spur of the moment trip to DisneyLand, and it just so happens to fall on the same weekend as you guys will all be thre for the Half!! I know I won't be running with you guys, and since we will only be there for the weekend I won't have alot of EXTRA time to meet up, but I will definately be keeping my eyes open for all of you while I am there.

And random question, does the number correlate to corral placement or is that just wishful thinking?

I'm with your hubby on that one - I HATE that ride!

That said, I've been on the one at WDW several times over the years. I just hate heights and freak out the whole time I am on the ride. Not my definition of a good time! So, now I just don't do it anymore & Chad has given up harrassing me about it. I am happy to go on RnR an extra time while everyone else is on ToT.

I will, however go on the one at CA. I haven't been on it and I would like to see how it differs, the theming, etc.

So, I am thinking you will be able to find some of us WISHers to go with you!

Rachael Q and anyones else :) I won't ride ToT but I'm sure the other 3 in my group will attempt it to see how it differs from WDW. If you see us in line be sure to let us know. I'll probably stand in line till the chicken exit so I can see the inside, doing WDW TOT once was enough for me ;)

I'll have on my beautiful lime green bracelet (which is on it's way to me!!! YAY!!!) and we'll probably be the only group of 4 women with 4 Pal Mickeys tagging along in parks that they don't work in LOL We downsized thanks to the recent security issue, we were going to take 2 each because we're just plain crazy :dance3: <-- that smiley needs an extra dancer to be my travel group LOL

BTW, I came down with a sore throat this past Monday and am thankfully off till Monday (part-time). What a sucky time to get a cold! We're scheduled for another 10 Mile LW this Saturday and I'm not sure if I should do it or not but we'll see how I feel on that Morning. Perhaps I'll just show up for a portion of it just to get out and stretch the legs a bit.

Hope everyone else is staying healthy!!!!

Having ridden both rides, I'll knowledgably say that the CA ToT ride is "different." If you're very familiar with the WDW ride to the point you know what comes when, then I'm sure you'll notice the differences too. :rotfl:
One thing you may not notice that is worth pointing out is that the waiting area as you get ready to stand on your numbers just prior to entering the elevator is actually double decker, with elevator entrances on both floors. The ride changes a bit depending on which level you start on, so try to ride both!
Booked my room for Sat night prerace btw, turned out enough of my family wanted to come join the party and be within walking distance of the start/finish that it made more sense than fighting traffic from our house. Sheraton Anaheim, bout .5 mile walk from the actual start/finish (near the I5 offramp), and by far the closest hotel left that still has rooms.

We would still love to meet up! :thumbsup2 I looked through our days, and Tuesday would probably be the best for us. We don't have anything planned that day, other than going to DCA. Would you like to meet up at a counter service for lunch? We have a 3yo, and lunch is usually better for him than dinner. Plus, I have no idea how he will be in the evenings with a 3 hour time difference!! :scared1: I was looking through the menus again. Some of the places that look good are Taste Pilot's Grill, Pizza Oom Mow Mow, and the Pacific Wharf Cafe. How does this work with your schedule? Do any of those places sound good for you all?

If anyone else will be around, we would love to meet up, too! :goodvibes

I haven't even had time to lurk much since school started. I thought things would get less hectic, but that is not the case! Anyway, I need to go back and read so I can catch up with everyone!

Nancy,

We are planning to hit the expo Friday morning, and then the parks...no set plans. Just a word of warning, I get very nervous in the anticipation of the rides!

The worst at WDW was Mission Space. But I ended up riding that twice (not in a row). How come I can get DH on Mission Space but not ToT?

I am hoping that if I get "indoctrinated" into ToT at DL, then next time we go back to WDW I will be fine to ride on my own and see the difference.

I can't believe we are only 20 days away from leaving!

Oh yeah!! Rachel & Nancy in the parks with us on Friday. Since this is a family free trip (just me & mom ) it would be a blast to have some more people to tour the parks with. Can't you picture a bunch of grown up Disney freaks touring DL for the first time, without kids, bouncing from ride to ride, hopped up on adrenaline & getting ready to get that "honkin" castle medeal!!!
Sounds like my kind of party!!!

We were planning on spending most of the day in the parks. We do want to hop over to the expo on Friday (because I just cant wait until Saturday to go) but plan on it being a full park day for us.

But I will tell you there is no way you will get me on TOT. I hate rides with drops :scared1: But besides that I want to ride everything there. I cant wait to see how the rides are similar or different. And I'm really excited to try the ones we dont have at WDW. Like Indiana Jones and a bunch of others. Man, I'm getting even more excited about it just typing about it :cool1: I hate that the Matterhorn will be down. But BTMRR is one of my favs & I cant wait to try theirs.

Dana-that is so cool about your surprise trip! Come to Napolinis if you can.

Heather-Can't wait to see you in 20 days!!!!

Matt-I dont think race number has anything to do with coral placement, but I dont know for sure.

Diane-that is so funny that you guys are all bringing Pal Mickey's. And they dont even work there?! I will be wearing my bracelet the whole time in hopes of meeting a bunch of WISHers!

We'll be in the parks Friday also. I am not sure which one we wanted to go to - but we have the Fantasmic seating for Friday night. So, in any case, we have to be in DL that night. Oh yeah, and we want to hit the expo first thing in the morning to make sure we get whatever merchandise we want. Chad was really bummed out this past January when the expo ran out of Goofy merchandise really early. He ended up buying one of the last XXL Goofy Ts just to have something for the inaugural Goofy. We are not going to repeat that!

I am getting so excited! I can't wait to ride Indiana Jones again!

LOL Tiff, we're just big kids especially Susan and I who try to surprise each other with tricks. In January I spent a bit of time in a wheelchair thanks to my badly strained foot after the Half (MAN that hurt!) I had waddled into the bathroom leaving my precious mouse with Susan fearful of what to expect when I came out. Thankfully she didn't have much to work with but there sat my Mouse (who was using a BaBW crutch we brought with us as a joke) in the wheelchair and her Mouse on the handle 'pushing' my mouse.

3 years ago following our 1st attempt at the Half and being swept I had gotten up from a nap and was getting ready for the evening giving her time to play the evil friend who dressed my Mouse in a fairy outfit. She's evil.

This last January she found candy called mouse teeth and using sticky velcro attached it to the mouth of one of our travel buddies mouse.

They are really a part of our travel fun so of course they have to come :)

We will be at the Expo when it opens on Friday and afterwards we are heading to DL and are doing the Walk in Walt's Footstep which I think is around 2 pm. So I will keep an eye open for the bracelets especially not knowing who will be wearing what shirt on that day :)

Can't wait. Meeting Susan today to go over our travel package that just arrived yesterday. It's getting close.

AND it seems perhaps I've just had a nasty allergy attack this week as my 'cold' has not gotten worse and Susan and her DH have both had rotten allergies this week.

Sending healthy pixie thoughts to all!!!!

Editing to say that the Walk in Walt's is scheduled for Sat not Fri which means we don't know which park we'll be in on Friday now :-/

DH and I also plan on doing the Expo when it opens on Friday. No definite plans after that until dinner time - 5:40 at the Blue Bayou.

We will definitely be doing ToT several times, I love that ride! I liked it better though before they changed from the lapbar to the individual seatbelts. Let's just say that DH's lap starts sooner than mine, so I always got some great hang-time :lmao: :lmao: I think it is interesting how different people will or won't do different rides. My DD now 21 hates ToT, but she will do any upside-down, huge huge drop rollercoasters at the drop of a hat. Doesn't make sense to me. The ride that you will never get me on, under any circumstances, is the Teacups. I can't even watch that one without getting queasy.

We are really looking forward to meeting all our fellow WISHers. See ya real soon :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Bad luck on the cold. I'm in the same boat. I STILL have my sore throat but it seems to be linked to allergies. So as long as it doesn't get worse we've changed our 10 Mile to Labor Day weekend (Saturday). We have already done a 10 twice in the past month but we wanted 1 more in before we left. Since we do them as walking with really just the aim to do the distance we're not worried about doing a long walk so close to the trip.

I did get my new shoes this weekend. They're pretty kewl. They're PURPLE!!! Figment would be so proud LOL They're New Balance and sooo light that I can't wait now for the race to see how they compare to my old Brooks.

Welcome Jenn and I hope you shake that cold this weekend so you can still get in some steps this coming week and long weekend :) See ya in CA!!!!!

the rest of you STAY HEALTHY!!! Remember those vitamins!!! :teeth:

Hi everyone!! I haven't been around for a long time (weeks!!!), but I have kept up with my training, and I can't wait for the Disneyland half in just a few weeks!!! I'm coming in Friday night, so I probably won't get to the expo until Saturday, but I plan to be there first thing in the morning!!

The one fatal mistake I made-- I've wanted to lose my school weight, and I have pretty good luck with weight watchers, but in an attempt to have more "convenience," I decided to try Nutrisystem. BAD mistake!!! Nutrisystem seems like a really great program if you can eat all your meals at home (or bring your lunch), but I have to eat out a lot for work, and travel a lot-- the program also doesn't make very good recomendations when you exercise a lot (when I asked what I should eat additionally when I burn hundreds of calories, the response was "We definitely recommend you try to exercise at least 30 minutes a day several days a week." Um, ok, and what if I do more??) The result?? I GAINED 20 POUNDS!!! So, now, I'm back to Weight watchers, but I'm running/walking even slower (but still within the 16 minute miles) just to make sure I don't hurt myself. Hopefully some of it is water, and I'll be able to lose a bit before the race, but I hate dieting and wish I'd just lose the weight once and for all!!!

It's great to be back on the boards after my long (work-induced) hiatus!!! I miss all you guys and I have to drop in at least daily before this race (and the Goofy in January!!)

Welcome Back Marissa! Good luck with WW. It is a great program and many have found success with it here.

Total panic is starting to set in with me. I cannot decide what combination of intervals I want to do for the 1/2. I have been training with run3/walk2, but my pace is steady at 15 minute miles. In January, I did the 1/2 with walk3/run2. When I switch back to that in my training, my pace is steady at 14:30. :confused3 I have not been able to train the way I would have liked these past few months, and I cannot decide what to do. For those of you who know me, I have this mental thing about wanting to be a runner and in order to do that I think I need to run more than I walk, hence the training at R3/W2. By going back to W3/R2, I feel like I am backtracking in my training, but if this is really what works best for me, maybe that is the interval that I should go with. I guess in the end it is about making the distance and whatever it takes to get there ahead of the sweepers should be good enough for me. But using either approach, R3/W2 or W3/R2 I think I can make it. Any thoughts from my WISH buddies? Anyone else doing intervals like this?

DH and I will be wearing our WISH team shirts on Fri, and I will probably have my WISH socks as well! We should be like a walking WISH billboard! No problem spotting us!

I'd love to set up a meeting time and place on Fri, but I have done almost no reaearch - I know, shame on me! Anyone have any ideas for a time and place? I'm thinking sometime around mid day would be good. That shouldn't interfere with anyone's plans for the Expo or Fantasmic. Suggestions, anyone?

Heather - I am certainly no expert since I just started exercising at all this past January and only have the Minnie 15k under my belt. I don't think you are backtracking by walking a bit more than running - esp. if your pace is faster that way! Maybe you body needs that additional walking time to recover?

I have always done a w4/r1 interval (can't seem to run more without dying, even after all this time) and my overall pace is around a 13:00 min. mile. I must just walk fast I guess. :confused3

And it is about getting away from the pesky sweepers! :rotfl:

About meeting up Friday - we are probably up for it. We are going to eat at my charity's dinner that night (and Saturday too) in the interest of saving money. It seems like Chad may be out of a job as soon as the week before DL. :sad2: I am hoping we don't have to give up our Fantasmic ressies, but we may have to (not sure I can even cancel that yet). I think I am also going to try to find a cheaper hotel than the HoJos, but I bet everything is booked! This stinks. The kicker is, he only freelances, so no severance or unemployment if & when this happens. (I know we will be fine, but it's scary & I'm the drama queen!) Ok, so I really digressed there! ;) Vent over...

TOT is at DCA, do you guys want to meet there around 2:00 on Friday? I've been reading the DL boards & it sound like its good to hop over to DCA mid afternoon & then go back to DL for the evening. I refuse to ride TOT but I do want to ride the Monsters Inc ride that is right by & it check out the rest of DCA (cant miss Soarin) I think it would be fun to all do the Grizzly River Run together :woohoo:

I'm open to whatever, just planning on soaking up as much Disney as I can on Friday, no set plans beyond that. Around 2-3 would probably work great for us, but again, pretty flexible. I would love to have a bunch of us crazys running around the park together :dance3:

I re-read my DL brochure & they do have the family reunion tents, so for those who are interested we can meet at the "W" tent (for WISH)

I cant believe 2 weeks, 2 days until I'm on that plane! Although after that plane crash in KY its a little scary. Someone from DH's work was on that plane :sad2: We didnt know her but that still hits a little too close to home.

Thanks TxBelle!! By the way, if I were you, I would do what is most comfortable for you right now! I'm also at a R3/W2 interval, but I'm thinking of switching back to W3/R2, and actually staying there for the Goofy in January. I actually think that I recover a lot better with that-- I get so tired with more running, that I am 1) slower, and 2) less motivated to get out there (which makes for a lot of missed runs :-( ), so I've come to the conclusion that what is best is what makes YOU feel good after your workouts, and not exhausted!

Can all of you believe that it is only 2.5 weeks until the race!!???!!!??

Hi, everyone! I am sorry I have been MIA. Life has been insane with moving DD to band camp and then to her permanent dorm assignment and then spending the weekend at DS's performing arts camp for performance weekend and then bringing him home.
We tried to do our 10 mile long training session on Saturday but it started pouring at 2 miles so we doubled back and only got in 4 miles. I think I'll try to get in 10 this weekend and then we hope to do the lance armstrong 10K in Phila on the 10th as our final long training session before DL.
I am jealous of all the plans for people to meet up on Friday. We are hoping our flight gets in on time and that we can find our way to Anaheim easily so that we can hit the Expo before our 7:00 dinner reservation at Goofy's Kitchen. Saturday we will look for WISH bracelets (and the three of us will be wearing ours) as we explore DL before heading to DTD for the 4:00 meet at Napoli's. Hard to believe we fly out in 17 days!

BTW, I noticed some bib numbers close to mine and I think we are all people who go at around the same pace, so there may be some correlation for corral placement based on estimated finish time.

Oh, and I LOVE the idea of gathering at the W tent afterwards. DH will be done at least an hour before me and I am not sure anyone will be around by the time I finish, but at least I will know where to go to look for other WISHers! :grouphug:

Greetings from sunny England - well i've arrived. LAX was a breeze to get through even with all the security restrictions so hopefully it'll be as good when we all arrive in a few weeks, i did ask the customs man if he was awaiting all the runners and he sia they were all ready!!

Guess what, my packet arrived the day after i left !! tim has scanned it in for me though so I've at least got my waiver, though it's not quite as exciting in black and white. i'm bib number 2974.

Nancy/cam - that cellphone number i gave for you isn't right. apparently, becuase i didn't put any money on my account since the marathon, they've given my number to someone else, I won't get a new one until the Friday morning, so I'll get in touch with you as soon as I have it.

My training has gone a bit kerblooey while i've been travelling, I've managed a lot of short runs but only one one hour one, this week is most important though so I'm aiming for 90 mins tomorrow, an hour thursday and 2.20 Sat. that's it then, I can do no more.

Anyway better go, my mum is cooking me dinner and I can hear rumbling in the dining room, and I may be 37 but I still can't be late!!! Helen

Helen, should I call that cell # and tell whoever has it that they have to give it back to you? :earseek:
Glad your packet has arrived.

Kristi, sorry to hear about Chad's job situation. I'm sure things will work out for you. :wizard:

Tiff, I think Helen wants to meet in DTD in the AM, but Barry and I will work our way over to ToT by 2PM if you want. Barry hates water rides, so I'd love to go on Grizzly River with people who actually want to be there!

We are DL bound ourselves.
We arrive th 14th and are at the Disneyland Hotel( I think we got the last room/LOL)

So it is MickeySP and DS, Geoff

Hope to meet you guys at Napolino's Sat - I do like their pizza. Hey it's carbs right.
We plan on doing the Expo Friday mid morning, nice since we are staying in the DLH anyway.

WOW, I finally got through this whole thread, took a good part of my work day but hey my boss is out today.

We have ressies for Blue Bayou on Thursday and doing Fantasmic on Saturday @ 9pm. I was a bit worried about this but seeing as others are just as nuts I feel much better.

I did have a 2 month break in training from an injury and too muvh travel but am back at it. I was surprised how quickly I am doing ok. I am back to 80 min, doing intervals Righ now W5/R3, hoping to push it a bit more next week.
I figure I only have time for one long run, this Sunday I am gonna try to do 10 miles.

My biggest fear is getting sick again, last Jan I ended with stomach flu and was vomitting until 8pm the night before the race. I'm thinking of wearing a haz mat mask this time!

Well everyone... I am gonna be there at the corner near the Ramada Maingate, which is I believe just past mile 12 to cheer everyone on. And... I'm gonna be taking pictures of as many wishers as I can. If you have a WISH racing team shirt on it will be much easier to make sure I get you... If not I'll be doing the best I can. I will also be meeting everyone at Napolini's on Saturday, I can't wait to meet and add a face to the names.

OK dug out the bib numbers

MickeySP/Lisa - 9159
Geoff/DS - 7953

He went with me last night to run - OMG!! Don't ever try to keep up with a 22 yo, it will kill you.

I am so sore I almost want to do a down day, but being so behind I don't dare.

Reading how well everyone is doing just freaks me out - Can I get it back in 3 weeks? This one will definetly be more walking. I am up to 5 miles at a 14:26 pace so not too bad, Sunday will be a 7 miler so that will really tell.

I have been thinking of you and that race all week and FINALLY checked out their website to see that they are still a go. Are you still a go to do it too? If so I'll be thinking of ya and sending pixie dust thoughts along to you. I saw on the site that the finishers medal resembles a sail pail? Is that right? Waaay to cute! I hope you do get to do it this weekend and we get to see a picture of you shortly wearing that very kewl medal.

Best of luck!!! :cheer2:

Thanks, Diane! Yup, I'm going to be headed out in a few minutes. (I'm going on my own this year, leaving the family behind, so it's just a quick pop-up-and-back trip for me.) And yes, the sand pail medal is the primary reason I'm going. I'm a sucker for medals and recently put my collection on display over a dowel in front of the treadmill! (I've even got my Disney Family Fun run medal there -- as well as the ones from this year's Minnie Marathon weekend. And I've already put up a new dowel to continue my collection. ) The photo is here:

Hey MickeySP, I'm pasting the info from Wide World of Sports page about that.....

When you pick up your race number at the Disneyland® Health & Fitness Expo, you will also receive your ChampionChip. The ChampionChip records both your official and net time. The net time represents the time it takes you to get from the start mats to the finish line mats. Commemorative Inaugural Disneyland® Half Marathon Weekend ChampionChips are available for purchase. If you purchase a ChampionChip, please email disneylandhalf@emmi.com so that your race information can be updated.

Hope it works and hope your having tons of fun at WDW :teeth: See you shortly in DL!!!!! Woohooo!!!!

It was my first tri, but I did it only as a relay team member (I ran/walked) with my two daughters (one biked, one swam). The water is very dark, but my DD who swam said you could actually see other swimmers in the water around you. This year I have hopes of doing the entire thing, but I am only learning to swim, for the first time, at 50 and I'm not sure I'll be ready. My DDs assure me I can, but they've been swimming since they were 2. I drove down from NC to FL and carried the bike -- and would likely do the same thing this year. You can rent a bike for $100, but because we can get there in about 10 hours, it just made more sense to drive. The worst part was driving back Sunday after the tri, but mid-May is end-of-grade testing for the girls and there was no way I was going to let them cut class that week. I thought it was a fabulous experience, especially for my DDs, who were able to see some great role models and to see women cheering on and supporting other women. It's incredibly empowering.

Because I live in rural NC, nowhere near any organized running groups, I've gotten involved with several online "virtual training groups." One of those is the Penguins. One of the members of a Penguin sub-group and a long-time virtual acquaintance, Liz, is being treated for cancer. At the suggestion of some members of the group, many of us have been doing races in her honor. My RnR Half was in honor of her, and this is my report.
----
Liz, I took you with me to Virginia Beach for the 6th Rock ‘n’ Roll Half this weekend. I wanted so much for it to be fun—the way I remembered our visit there for the race as fun—but all days aren’t fun, I suppose. In fact, perhaps that made this race even more poignant for me. At my low points, I thought of the un-fun days you must have faced recently, and how you have to keep going anyway and squeeze every drop of goodness out of each day.

But I’m getting ahead of myself, because there was a good deal of goodness in this day. In fact, it was a glorious day. We skirted a hurricane to make this race, you and I. Right up until the day before I left home, there were questions about whether the path of Ernesto would prevent the race, and whether it would prevent my drive to Va Beach. But the storm passed, the trip was made, and on your “Day of Hope” I toed the line in Corral 20 (http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/in_the_corrals.jpg)–far behind where you would have started, but I kept you there with me anyway.

And the first six miles WERE fun. The wave start sent us under the balloon arch 29 minutes behind the elites. I laughed, thinking they’d be finished before we got to mile 4, but I had my camera and my goal was not a stellar time, but a palpable memory (http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/water_view.jpg). I love the water stops and neighborhoods and cheerleaders at this race. They didn’t disappoint us this year. They were just as marvelous as usual. And not far into the race, there was the huge panel from rbkrunning.com: “When exhaustion gets tired, when agony doubles over in pain, when defeat waves a little white flag, I will still be out here. Running. I am what I am.” That’s you, Liz, still running.

Remember the short little bridge? It’s the only “hill” on the course (http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/the_hill.jpg). Well, the theme for this year was pirate-y, with all the neighborhood there dressed in pirate garb, and a huge pirate ship complete with skull and crossbones (http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/pirate_ship.jpg), and a series of signs demanding we “walk the plank” (the bridge). Their lighthearted encouragement made the bridge seem insignificant, even to this flatlander. And Camp Pendleton had its jeep-borne drill sergeant shouting encouragement to us through her megaphone. A 9-or-10-yr-old kid played acoustic guitar from the back of a pickup. He was as much fun for me as any of the bands, and he was adorable.

But when I left the shade of Camp Pendleton, turned back on the city streets, and began the long trek past the finish line out to 37th street, the day changed for me. It was late, the heat and humidity were rising, and the concrete resorts and asphalt offer little in the way of shade. I drank cups of warm water at the water stops, and couldn’t seem to get enough. Then came that wonderful turn toward the ocean on 37th street, and the surf was gorgeous. The boardwalk was crowded (http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/the_boardwalk.jpg), and it was hot, but we faced the finish line in the distance. And we crossed it, you and I. No iced towels for you at the finish line, because when you travel with me, the good stuff is often gone before you finish. And no water, unless you wanted to stand in the two-block line in the sun for runner refreshments. So I bought a finisher’s shirt (http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/the_spoils.jpg) and a diet Pepsi, and I walked six blocks to wait in the long line in the hot sun for the shuttle back to the amphitheater where I’d parked. And I was so nauseated and miserable, and I wanted to cry because I’d wanted this to be a tremendous celebration of you. And I dreaded writing the race report.

But it’s morning now, and I’m back home with my medal (http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/the_medal.jpg) and my finisher’s shirt and my photos of the happy moments during the race, and it occurs to me that maybe this is a very appropriate celebration of you. Because this morning, I’m completely "healed". The ugliness of yesterday’s nausea has passed. I am deliciously cool in front of my computer screen and I have a tall, unsweetened iced tea in hand and another pitcher waiting. And it’s a good day. A marvelous day! I wish you a lifetime of complete healing followed by many marvelous days.

Love you, Liz.

Wendy-what a great race report & pics! Can I see one of the medal? It's all about the bling for me :teeth: I'm sure it was a bittersweet day for you & what a great tribute to your friend. I hope her treatments go well. You're in taper now, so enjoy it. See you in CA! I am hoping to focus on tri's next year & wanting to get my mom into it with me since she is doing all these other races with me, but she's never been comfortable in the water either. So , I think she'll support me from the sideline. How great you got to do that with your DD's!

Happy Birthday Wendy!!!!! Woohoo!!!! And that was an amazing race report and very kewl medal. Thoughts and prayers for your friend.

Tracy both Susan and I have been living with butterflies because even though we did finish in January we are both still terrified that we'll get swept. I wonder if that fear ever goes away? LOL Susan and I are both in the back and I can't believe I can't recall our bib #s but I'm like 10150 or something so definitely in the back and we are slow. Both Susan and I are wearing bright golden rod kind of yellow tech shirts which are from the men's exercise area at Target.

I will have my bracelet on but am thinking of adding some green ribbon curls to the safety pins on my bib.

Our current plans are to do DCA on Friday after the Expo so I'll be trying to steer our mini group to ToT around 2 pm.

Saturday after Cathy and Barb do the 5K we'll be in the DL Park and are signed up for the Walk in Walt's tour which might screw us up for being at DTD when everyone else but hopefully we'll catch a few later comers like ourselve.

Can't believe that in 1 week I will be getting my bags ready to head to the airport to fly out to Cali!!!! Wooohooo!!!!! I just wish we had time set aside for sleeping in and resting LOL By the time I get there (and I'm sure I'm not alone in this) I will be so glad to have the past 3 weeks of work behind me. The only good thing is I've been so busy that at least during work hours i'm so crazed that I don't have time to worry about being swept LOL

This is funny because I feel the exact same way!!! I've finished 3 half marathons (and the Minnie 15K). I'm slow, but nowhere close to 16 minute miles, and I have never even seen the sweeper. BUT, I am scared to death that I will get caught by one!!!!! :rotfl2: I can see myself in a couple years or so running 8 minute miles, *still* hoping not to be caught by the sweeper!!!

I've been sick the last couple weeks with the cold to end all colds (it probably was more than a cold, but I hate doctors, and don't go unless I think I'm dying)... I missed my 10 mile run and my 8 mile run from the MFM plan, so I'm not incredibly thrilled for the half next week, but I've gotten back out this week. I slowed down a lot since the cold (but still within the time limit-- no sweepers for me!!!) I'm planning on walking most of the half now since it was my lung capacity that was affected, not so much my strength. I have a 45 minute run this evening, and I'll get 5 miles in this weekend, and just see how it goes!!

Is there a WISH meet on Saturday??? I thought I read about it... I'm really hoping to meet all of you guys this time!!!!!

Wendy - :bday: I saw your pic of how you display your medals a week or so ago. Chad sent me the picture from another website! I saw your screen name in it - and told him "hey, that's one of MY WISH people!" :rotfl: Chad wants to hang up his medals like that too. We just have to decide where to do it. I only have my Minnie medal, but I will be getting 2 in DL and 2 in WDW... :teeth:

I have no idea what our plan is Friday for DCA or DL. Our only 2 must-dos are the expo when it opens, and the charity dinner that night. The dinner is free food, and with Chad's job going away at some point, we have to try conserve the $$$ now. If we are in DCA, I will try to get to ToT at 2pm. I will make sure to have my WISH bracelet on.

We are still up in the air about doing the Fantasmic dessert buffet Friday night now. We really, really should not be spending ay more money than we have to. But that is kind of a one time thing for us. And we actually got the ressie. I have no idea if we can cancel anyway. Chad does not want to cancel, so we probably won't.

Saturday morning we are doing the 5k. Anyone else doing both races?

We do plan to meet up with everyone at 4pm Saturday, then to another free charity dinner. :teeth:

Sunday after the race, we might drive around Hollywood, Santa Monica, etc. Then we plan on parks Monday & Tuesday.

Disneygirl, unfortunately my pace is too close to the 16 Minute Mile although I was surprisingly at a 15 for most of the January race only slowing down towards the end after passing Mile 10's sweep. I know that on that clock I was still ahead of the clock. I'm hoping that the running and the speed I can get with running will pay off which is something I didn't have in January. But I'll be there someday with ya doing the 8 Minute Miles and looking over my shoulder for that sweeper LMBO

Kristi, Susan and I are going to Volunteer for the 5K. Our packets (HA! 3 pieces of copy paper LOL) arrived yesterday and it said something about the Mickey and Friends lot so I'm not sure if that is where I will be stationed from 5 am till close to the finish. I informed them that Susan and I both need to be at the finish but really really wanted to do what we could to help out. Cathy's 50th Birthday is the DAY OF the 5K and she is doing the 5K. Wear bracelets in view and lime green and I will try to say Hi to all and do what cheering I can from where ever they put me.

Maherae!!! I LOVE that cheer!!!! My co-workers think I've come unhinged from laughing out loud but LOVE IT!!! See ya in the corral!!!! I'm going for the front of my corral because I think Susan is in the one in front of me so she will be at the back so we can be in our correct corrals but together to calm each others nerves. Look for us around 3 to 3:30 am if staging is going to be open. We won't be sleeping anyways might as well get up, eat breakfast and warm up LOL

By the way we will be at Disney until Tuesday late afternoon when we have to depart for the airport. So we will be keeping an eye open for Monday and Tuesday too for fellow WISHers.

Are we wearing the medals on only Sunday or Monday or both days? What's everyone leaning towards??? Listen to me, a moment of positiveness!!! LMBO

I will have my WISH bracelet on - but probably not any other lime green. I have one light lime green tank, that I will most likely wear to the 1/2 on Sunday. (besides flourescent lime green on a pale redhaed is not so attractive!) I will be wearing a hat with the ponytail out the back of it. I plan on taking my 15 mins./mile on the 5k so as not to over-do it for the big race Sunday.

We are planning on hitting the parks all day Monday & wearing our medals. Good to know we wont be the only goobers. I asked mom if we would have trouble getting thru security at the airport going home with all that "bling" It's big enough to give someone a concussion if you hit them on the head with it. :lmao:

I will be wearing my WISH bracelet from the time I leave so hopefully will run into alot of folks. Come up to me dont be shy, I am all the time talking & making friends in the lines at WDW. I am making me a lime green WISH shirt to wear on Friday. The lime actually looks good on my coloring. (dark brn hair, dk brown eyes)

I cannot beleive it is actually time for me to start putting stuff into a suitcase & leaving a list so DH knows what to do with the kids (getting ready for school, lunches, etc)

For the race I'm wearing a red singlet & black shorts (Mickey colors :teeth: ) but I will have my bracelet on. I will see if our Home Depot has any paint chips. I never thought about putting it on my bib.

Wendy- HAPPY BIRHDAY!!!! Wow look what all you have accomplished by your 50th. My mom turned 65 this year which is kind of why she got into all this with me , so she could do her 65th up right! She does not look her age at all.

Anne- Great cheer!!!! Just think , only 1 more LR & 2 sr before we head out west!!!

I will be in on Thur afternoon. Staying at CCI & hoping to get in some DL time on Thur too. Mom is afraid I'm going to wear her out before the race. I have to get up at 4:00 a.m. to head to the airport and there is a 2 hr time difference but once I get Disneyitis all bets are off. There is no rest for the addicted (or some would call me afflicted :rolleyes1 )

Hope you are all getting excited about going to Disneyland next week. I wish I could go and participate but I'm not quite ready for that. Hopefully, I'll be ready for the half at WDW. :upsidedow

So, for all of us not going to DL, I'm going to keep track of fellow DISers running in the race and post the results in a thread for all to see. It will be the next best thing to being there to cheer you on! If you would like for me to keep track of your progress while you're running, please send me an email with your registered first and last names and I guess, your race number if you have it handy. The more people I keep track of, the better for those of us staying behind! It will almost seem like we're there! :thumbsup2

Hi fellow DISers,
There's a good chance that I won't be able to meet up with everyone on Saturday because the family really wants to go to the parks that day. If I don't go, look for me on Saturday. We actually head for Disneyland tomorrow. If all goes well we should be in the Grand Californian by the afternoon. Although there could be extra stops along the way.

Good news is that the temperatures around San Diego seem to be really nice in the morning and it really doesn't start getting hot until 10:00 or so. Hopefully this will still be the case at DL.

Back again - well if all goes to plan, pretty much exactly this time next week, I should just be crossing the finish line (well hopefully), am very excited. Managed to run for 90 minutes yesterday around london- I ran down to Kensington Palace (Princess Di's house), past the Albert Hall, up to Hyde park Corner, up to Speakers Corner, around Marble Arch then back to my hotel - does anyone else feel like they've done London with me today. Shame I could slip in Buckingham Palace and Big Ben for you all - buit I did drive past Tower Bridge last night.

I think I'm climatising a bit as it's boiling here, am currently in a boiling hot internet cafe close to Madam Tusaauds, maybe I should do a few laps round teh computer. I did have two huge blisters on the bottom of my feet, but a carefully placed safety pin and a night of dancing seems to have sorted them out. Off to my hotel to lie down now - see you all soon - Helen

I have a question....for those of you that are staying at one of the DL hotels and don't need any sort of shuttle or transportation to the corrals....what time are you planning on leaving the hotel? I see it says they want us in position at 4:30AM!!! I am sure at WDW that is more of an issue since we are traveling further on property. But at DL do you think it is necessary to leave the hotel so early? I am by myself (well my mom is along to cheer me on) walking from the GC and I didn't figure on getting there quite that early. What do you think???

Not sure if anyone will find this useful, but I made a little MS Paint version of the road closures around DL for my family since they're going to try to find some spots to cheer me on during the race:

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l249/thndrmatt/roadclosures.jpg

Basically red means closed, with Ball road only closed eastbound and Katella closed Westbound, all others both directions. DL and CA are also labeled as well as the start (S) and finish (F). Oh and they didn't mention Anaheim Blvd as a road that's closed, but its part of the course so it must be, so I just put question marks on that section.

I'm going to recommend they use basically drive one block outside of the course to get around, although it looks like Katella eastbound will be open for access to the later miles, you'll just have to take Orangewood to get back, and Ball will be open to get back westbound, but will have to take the road north of that to get east early on. I have different people going to different places, sorry if this is totally confusing. :confused3

But hey, thought someone might find it helpful! Oh and about leaving at 4am, I too am staying within a half mile of the start and probably won't show up at the line until around 5. They're just in panic that with LA freeway traffic and the area being so compressed in comparison to DW that thousands of cars are just going to make impossible to get anywhere. Besides which with all those roads closing it'll be rough for those driving in at the last minute. Since you'll already have your number on, you could probably show up even after 5:30 and still make the race no problem, just have to make sure you're warmed up stretched and ready to go.

I'll probably still get up at 4, but just for my breakfast and nerves. :yay:

Well its official. I have full on TAPER MADNESS!!!!! Yesterday I had so much nervous energy I didnt know what to do with myself. Hi, everyone! Must admit I am a frantic mess. Like Tiff, I thought I'd be okay since I've done this before but I am more nervous than ever -- I am going to be desperate for supportive WISHers on the course and the SCREAM TEAM!

Work is completely, utterly insane and for the first time ever in my life I have had serious thoughts about cancelling this trip. My amazing, God-sent secretary was here last night til 10 working on a crisis while I ran to open house at DS's school. Today is going to be no better and possibly worse.
SO, I also have lots of nervous energy and many worries. My hematologist has expressed serious concern about me flying for 6 hours because of my blood condition (clotting) and I guess that is in the back of my head, too. Leaving Jenn behind makes me sad, too. And knowing there will be at least 2 emergency proceedings while I am away that one of my partners will have to cover for me is totally stressing me out.

Howard is completely frazzled this week, too, dealing with a potentially serious vehicle repair before we go away and trying to finish a project and take an economics test a week early because of everything he'll miss next week -- of course when we signed up for the DL 1/2, he had no job and going back to school for his MBA was just a pipedream, so pulling this off now under all the changed circumstances will be a miracle. And the fact that he hasn't gotten out to run at all since September 2? I am just going to keep telling him he is in a really good, solid taper! ;)

Sorry for the downer post. I really AM excited. Just need to get past all this stuff. And I keep reminding myself that others are dealing with real problems -- mine are nothing comparatively.

Hi, everyone! Must admit I am a frantic mess.

I'm so sorry for all the craziness you're dealing with right now, but good for you that you are following through with your plans. :thumbsup2 (Except the blood-clotting thing makes me a little nervous, so you'd better know what you're doing there! I assume you've made an informed, intelligent decision.)

I can't tell you how many times I've felt the same way before a race. Oftentimes so many things conspire against us when we're trying to reach our goals. That's why, regardless of how we finish, each of us should always give ourselves credit for getting to the start line. With the frantic pace of our lives today, it's remarkable that we've maintained the commitment and determination to train and follow through with our race plans. So many folks tell me they'd like to do a marathon, but they can't or won't do what they must to make their dream a reality. You are! Good for you! :cheer2:

See you in just a few days!!!!!

I keep thinking about seeing Kathy and Erin and Lynne right at the end of the Minnie before the FINISH and how that re-energized me! :goodvibes: At all of my 5Ks, Howard has been able to double back and bring me water and clue me in to the topography and course characteristics heading toward the FINISH. Of course, I am usually alone at the very, very back of the pack for those races. At least at the Disney races there are others with me, so that even if I can't see where I am going, I can follow other participants.

So, did you get the will done? Make sure you write out an appointment of guardian letter if you have to do that in your state and have it signed by both of you. Hate to think of this stuff, but we all do anyway. I also always leave a medical authorization permitting the person watching the kids to authorize emergency and non-emergency care. AND, you are going to laugh at this -- I also leave a medical authorization for our furbaby! :dog:

Hm... I bet I'm the last one leaving for DL from the east coast... Flight doesn't arrive at SNA til 10am Sat... Means I have to stress out that much longer! Might still be able to pop by the meet at 4 on the way to or from the expo though...

Matt,

We'll be arriving a DL at nearly the same time as you. Leaving TPA at 7:30am and arrive at LAX at 9:27 am Saturday.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Napolini's At 4:00.

:lmao:

We still haven't done the will. I am so bad, I know! How'd I know the lawyer here would be after me to make sure I get it done? ;) We are going to get the packing done, and Zack off to my sister's house tonight. So, hoepfully between tonight and early tomorrow morning, we can finish it, then find someone to notarize it before noon tomorrow! I am such a procrastinator! Shouldn't be too bad - should the worst happen, my parents get everything, including Zack. And we already talked to them about it.

Can't wait to see you Saturday, Cam!
(off to sign my medical authorization for Zachary....)

Hi all!!!

Finalizing the packing here too :)

We fly out tomorrow and have a connecting thru Memphis and then onto LAX. I'm going to wear my lime green WDW Space Mtn shirt in case anyone is traveling thru Memphis or sees us in LAX. By the time we land in LAX I'll probably be wearing my WDW 1/2 Marathon 2006 hat which is that beautiful blue with a white front with a Pal Mickey hanging off my green backpack.

Planning on hanging around the hotel (PP) and DTD for Thursday evening since we get in so late in the afternoon. Friday Morning we'll be at the Expo bright and early at the opening wearing our I DID IT 2006 1/2 Marathon shirts which are those vibrant kinda royal blue. Susan and I will be matching in that :)

Sunday we'll be matching again this time in black shorts with a yellow about the color of the yellow smilies on the DIS LOL I picked up one of those curly ribbon gift decorations, I found it in LIME GREEN and am thinking if I don't look too silly I will attach it to a safety pin and wear that on my shoulder. And don't forget by beautiful always on my wrist WISH TEAM BRACELET!!!!!

Can't wait to see the green all over DL. I'll be dragging them over to ToT on Friday at 2 pm. Hoping we can make it over to Napolini's but it will be after 4 as we are Walking with Walt :cloud9: just before that. Saturday we'll be around looking for the green again at the 5K and later in the DL park.

Pixie dust for stress free travel to all.

SEE you all soon!!!!! :cool1:

I am getting really excited. We leave Friday morning. We will check-in at DLH and then head to the Expo. Not sure if we will be able to make ToT by 2, but we'll see. We will definitely see everyone on Saturday at 4. This is going to be so much fun! :dance3:

My bags are packed, I'm ready to go...

OK, enough of that old school -- Let's get this party started in here!

I am leaving home this morning, dropping my kids off at school, going to work, picking the kids back up and dropping them off at their after-school activities, then heading to the airport. Long flight into LAX (which terrifies me -- not the flight, but finding my way around the huge airport!), Supershuttle ride to Paradise Pier, and very late tonight I'll be going to sleep just outside Disneyland. All seems very surreal...

I think I have all the essentials. I can't wait to wrap up these shirt orders so I'll have a WISH Team shirt to wear, too -- I will be sporting my WISH bracelet. I can't make ToT at 2:00 because I have a "My Disneyland Birthday Party" scheduled then -- Phooey! And I'll be doing the 50th Anniversary Tour while you folks are at Napolinis. (So many things to do and so few days to do them!) I will be looking for lime green WISH shirts everywhere I go though.

Mostly all packed for the DL 1/2. Let me re-phrase that...I am packed, my wife is packed, but we havent even started packing for my lovely 2-year-old DD. Something about needing to finish laundry first. I took today off of work to tie up all of these loose ends.

Plane takes off in 8 hours. WOOHOO!!

Cant make any of the scheduled meets tho... :guilty: We are doing DL on Friday, so can't make ToT meet, and we have 4:30 ADR's for Ariels Grotto on Saturday, so can't make the 4:00 napolonis. I am sure I will see some of you at the parks and on the course.

I have officially decided I am not going to go after the 2:00 finish. I will run it with my wife and brother, and we will probably be closer to a 3:00-3:15 finish. I know I will be wearing a Pirate Goofy hat (bandana with goofy ears) as practice for the Goofy 07. I will wear my WISH shirt either to the expo or the race.

Will take lots of pics and post a full report when we get back.

Hey, everyone! I just realized that since I won't be wearing my 2006 WISH shirt from the 1/2 in January -- does anyone want to "borrow" it to wear for Sunday's race? It is either XL or XXL and is very cool if you are looking for some way to advertise your WISH affiliation.
If you want to borrow it, let me know ASAP and I will pack it tonight. DUH! Can't believe I didnt' think to make the offer earlier.

Good luck to all WISH team members this weekend at DL. I really, really WISH I could be there with you all but will have to settle for running the Philadelphia Distance Run (half marathon) on Sunday. As you guys start I will be about 1:15 into my race and I am sure I will feel an additional bolt of inspiration coming in from the west coast at that time. Great run/wog/walk to all and remember we do this for the fun of it.

Uh-oh. I went to the Expo yesterday. The medals for each one of the Disney races (Minnie, Goofy, DL, etc.) were on display. They're huge! I felt this immediate need to grab the event brochures, so that I can run all of the races so I could have one of each. I had to go to the merchandise area to distract myself. :teeth:

Lisa -- I'll be glad to do it over the next few days, if I can figure out how to. :teeth:

That medal is sooo heavy! SO many people in the parks have asked where they can get one!

BTW -- Howard's time was about 2:07 and mine was about 3:24, which I think may be 5 minutes faster than January. But I owe that to Kristi, who was so generous and upbeat and stayed with me and motivated me through the toughest miles of the course. That girl is a dynamo. Love ya, kiddo!

Thanks to everyone here who sent pixiedust: and :goodvibes: and :grouphug: I thought of you all often during the race!

Anybody else receive an email survey about the DL half? I got one that asked a series of questions about the event, rating different aspects and asking for likes and dislikes. Hopefully they will have learned a few things....overall I had a great time!

Hopefully they will have learned a few things....overall I had a great time!I got the survey as well - glad to know they're looking for feedback, and right after the race while our memories are fresh. The questions about Kasier Permanente were hilarious, though. :rotfl:

I didn't get the survey but the only 2 things I had any issue with were ....

1) people taking more or non-racers taking things at the refreshment stands meant for the racers (both Sat and Sun) which I don't think happens at WDW because I remember that there was plenty of food when I came thru in Jan and I was towards the end (somewhere in the 11,000 places). I think possibly this is because you had to be wearing a bib to go thru the food tent to the finish line. Possibly DL just doesn't have the space to be able to create the ending line-up that WDW is able to.

2) No bananas at mile 6!!! Waaaa!!! I went into this thing so afraid I was going to pass out from hunger LMBO I was hungry because even though I brought my bagel to the staging I was to nervous to finish it so probably need more nutrition pre-race. But I did it so I guess not having the banana didn't hurt me :) I need to find something I can woof down in staging easily.

or and just thought of this one.... the official race background that had the huge line, they obivous needed 2 of those. There wasn't a line for the other background so I was able to jump in front of it and get a quick photo.

All in all I was happily surprised at how smooth it did go. I think they did do a very good job and just have a few places to tweak only due to the limited space they are working with.

My Golden Inaugural DL 1/2 Ears off to the Team at DL that pulled this race off so nicely. :cheer2:

And a special cheer out to those winners, I have to go and read the press releases but I thought I read in a glance that the male finisher was a former CM!?!?! How kewl!!!

See you all in just over 3 months!!!!! I'll be the one searching for the banana at mile 6 LMBO

oh one last.... I said when I finished that I wouldn't do this race again due to the hills (and I mean when I finished, minutes after) I've revised my decision. No I'm not going back in 2007 but I will keep an open mind and when I feel I am faster and stronger to handle those hills I will return. Afterall there was soo much of DL that I still need to see and do. Might as well do the race again at the same time ;) Best of luck to those that ARE signing up for the DL 2007 race. :cheer2:

Diane,

I agree with you about the food issue! And I thought the finish area itself was confusing. I wanted my medal first thing, but instead had to go past the space blankets and get my chip cut off before I got my beautiful castle medal. The "official" background line for photos was l-o-n-g, why couldn't all of them been the same?? And then not all of the food lines were fully stocked when DH and I went through, not a huge deal, but still.....All in all though we had a blast, and I am so glad we went!

Did anyone check out the results for the over 75yr age group? There were 8 participants - 7 finished before me!! And one finished just after me! Wow! That is so amazing!! I hope I am out there plugging away when I get to that age!

Wasn't the oldest racer 82? Either they haven't been added yet (which I recall people being added a few weeks yet after Jan's) or they didn't finish which is really a bummer either way I hope they are alright.

Very kewl and inspirational for those doing it at that age. Also very inspirational and amazing was watching the young ones who did the 5K and see them racing by. I can't remember how close the the front the youngest one was but I do recall a young boy being at the front of the pack and being floored that he was beating out the older and possibly more experienced runners.

Man I can't wait for January now! LOL All my clothes from the weekend are now washed so I can leave whenever the rest of you are ready to LMBO :Pinkbounc
