I just read the other thread about taking younger children to see the cirque du soleil. My question is how old do you feel a child should be until he/she would appreciate this show? My children are 9 and 10. My daughter watched a part of a performance in school this year and loved it. She also loved CATS and The Sound of Music. I would love to take them. They are both old enough to sit still without distracting others, but at the same time for almost $200.00 I would like to know they are going to enjoy such a show too. What do you all think, should I maybe wait for another trip to see this show when they are a little bit older? Anyone with an opion one way or another would you please post. Thanks!

I think 9-10 are a perfect age to enjoy Cirque du Soleil any child younger than that might be too young at least IMHO

We took our 5 year old last fall --- loved it!! That is until he fell asleep half way through!! Will try again next trip but will certainly make sure he at least tries to take a nap.

We are taking our two girls (5 and 8) and so they would know what to expect I rented a video from the library of one of Cirque's other shows. They loved it and can't wait to see it in person. (me either - it is unlike anything else!) We are theater people though and our kids have been going to concerts etc since they were each about 3 1/2 and they both love live performances (and know how to behave during one!)

Thanks for the imput everyone. I hadn't thought about trying to rent a copy of a performance. I think I will do that as well. I will decide then from their reaction to it as to weather or not we will go see a show ourselves. Great Idea!

Previous posters are right....your kids are old enough to be truly amazed by this. Lots of very cool music and effects and, of course, remarkable tricks and feats and stunts. They'll even be old enough to 'get' many of the visual jokes that went over my younger daughter's head. I like the suggestion to rent the video but I would argue that you shouldn't let that be the deciding factor. I've seen the video and it doesn't come anywhere near to capturing the magic of the real performance!

We have been going to musicals and Cirque performances since my son was 9 and daughter was 11. My kids LOVE them. In fact, at the age of 9, my ds started talking to a stranger next to us (but only after the stranger asked permission to talk to him) and after the performance he told us she asked him about the Cirque de Soliel and what he thought, and he told her he like Phantom of the Opera and then they started discussing muscicals!!

Live performance is GREAT...a tape DOES NOT do it justice.
