Hello :sunny:

When you buy your airline tickets what kind of insurance, if any, do you purchase? For the past three years we have purchased the package through the travel agency that covers the tickets as well as our health coverage while there. I can't recall the exact amount, but it isn't cheap. Now I did have to use the health insurance one year for our youngest dd, who was just 8 mos, at the time and it was awesome. We had good coverage and didn't have to pay anything up front.

The reason I am wondering about this, is that we are getting ready to purchase our tickets for next March. We are going to fly West Jet and I am considering booking direct through them. Should I do this? Would I be better booking through the agency? What about insurance? Is the ticket coverage really worth it?

Thanks so much ...
Kerri :wave2:

It is worth it!! I always recommend the RBC Deluxe package...
Covers you door to door including if you became ill while away and needed to get home. Protect your investment. Your vacation can be a costly thing to lose! I am a TA and have a travel insurance policy on my homeowners insurance but I STILL take the RBC in addition for myself and my family when we travel. Having had a medical mishap in Disney...and knowing how FAST those $$$$ tally up....do it!

Can I buy RBC insurance if I book everything myself, if so how do I do this?

It doesn't cost any extra to book Westjet thru a travel agent vs. online. Why not give them the business and then you have someone to call should you have a problem?

Thank you ... that RBC insurance is the package we buy too. I always buy medical insurance when we travel to the States, but I just buy this package when we fly, then we are totally covered. I was just wondering if this package was truly worth the cost though. I guess it is and I will book again with our agent and buy the package ... you just never know!!!

Makes perfect sense!

It's not until you've had a mishap that you realize it really is such a nominal fee to have bought it in the first place! I am often surprised when people will buy a huge vacation and then not insure it! :confused3

Have fun!

How do you work the ticket insurance if you go through an airline such as Southwest or one of the others in Buffalo? Can you/do you book flying from Buffalo through an agent?

You can only purchase medical without an agent...but for trip and cancellation you would need to go through a TA. My DD just went to Disney for the summer as a CM and flew Southwest. I insured her for trip and cancellation and then medical for the summer but I bought it 'through' myself so I am a bit unsure for you??

Check it out at www.rbcinsurance.ca I am sure there's info there re this?

Which is better CAA or RBC? Do you have to have an account with RBC to get travel insurance?

I have no experience with CAA so cannot guide you there.
You do not require an acct with RBC to purchase insurance. If I am not mistaken, you can do an online quote with RBC?

Tricky business this insurance isn't it? :confused3
