I'll be there eating them with you. Gosh, there is nothing like a Mickey Bar on your balcony. It will be just my husband and I (unless the expected happens, and we have to bring a little one with us). We booked a Category 3 (this will be a vacation of a lifetime as we will not be able to afford to go on another vacation for a long time after this one) but who cares you only live once, right. This will be our first 7-night cruise,I can hardly wait. I already have my excursions picked out. Only 18 months left :teeth:

YIPPEE!!!!! :woohoo:

You made my whole night!!!!
I guess I will introduce us so we can get aquainted.

We are going as just a couple too. We have 4 grown kids and 4 grandkids who sometimes come with us, but not ths time.
We have done 11 DCL cruises so far. #12 is this September, # 13 is this November, # 14 is April ? 07, cant remember the exact date. It is Easter weekend a 3 day cruise and then of course #15 will be our cruise with you. Plus we may do one on RCCL or DCL in the summer of 2007 with kids and grandkids. It is their choice so we will see. :confused3
DH is in the construction business and I am retired (early). I was a cook for many years then assistant manager in a restaurant, and when I retired I owned a pizza shop which I sold.
We are both born and raised in Oregon, but for the last 6 years we have lived in Florida. We live in Fruitland Park. It takes us about an hour to get to WDW, so we are there often. :yay: Plus since the port is so close it makes it easier to afford to cruise more often, which I am grateful for.
I love Disney and my house is filled with disney stuff. :thumbsup2
well I have probably bored you long enough. i dont want to scare you away!!!
I am looking forward to getting to know you over the next few months. :goodvibes

It is awesome having someone finally going with us!!! :cloud9:

Dont let some of those rumors about me being a :crazy2: old lady scare you away.
It's not true, :confused3 well maybe 1/2 true, :lmao: ok, so it's true, ;) but dont let that stop you from joining us .

I am really a nice person, :goodvibes just ask me and I will tell you. :rolleyes1

Very nice to meet you Kathy. You didn't bore me at all. I am excited that I may actually know someone on the cruise too. Here is a little background on me.

Our first Disney Cruise was just this past December. We only booked a 4-night because we weren't sure if we would like it. Well we absolutely loved it and would be going back this year but was already committed to going to Hawaii, which my husband wanted to cancel to go back on the cruise, yes that's how much we loved it.

We lived in New York (Long Island) for most of our lives so we grew up going to WDW. Seven years ago we moved to Las Vegas for a better quality of life since NY was just to expensive to live. We actually have something in common. We own a pizza place here in Vegas. My husband has always loved making pizza (what he did in NY) and he had a great opportunity to buy one. I work for Station Casinos Corporation (they are the ones who had the show American Casino). I am the Executive Admin for Sr. VP of Operations. Currently we do not have any childeren but we are working on that :smooth: I am Christine (33) and my husband is Joey (36). We both love Disney so much we got married there almost 12 years ago. We have been to WDW 3 times since we moved to Vegas but have been to DL over 20 times and are going again this weekend. It's only a 4 hour drive and I love being in a place that Walt Disney created. It just adds to the magic of Disney. Ok now I am done boring you.

Howdy Christine,
It is great to know your name.
We got hooked on DCL the same way you did. We decided to take a 4 day cruise and we were hooked.
At that time we had our youngest son with us. He was full grown he loved it too. He works for WDW. He is in guest relations and is in training the next few weeks for a management job at Epcot.
We have annual passes and go to WDW all the time, several times a month.
My dining room is set up as pirate party with all my stuffed disney characters. some with pirate bandanas, eye patches, gold earrings and lots of gold wrapped pirate coins from the ship and the tall colored plastic glasses from the ship are around on the table too. King Louie is swinging from the chandelier with a pirate map rolled up under his arm, which is actually the pirate menu form the pirate night dinner on the ship. People think I am crazy , but I have fun with it. I will post the pictures sometime for you to see if you'd like.
It reminds me of all our cruises when I look at them.
The Magic has a few different things than the Wonder has. By the family pool they have a Dumbotrom movie screen. It is awesome to watch movies on it or sporting events. They played Pirates of the Caribbean movie after the pirate party which is great fun. Plus on the Magic most people dress up as pirates, so it is a really lively party. On the Wonder most dont dress up much, but when you get on the Magic it is a totally different story.
On all the cruises we have been on we have always had a cruise meet the first day, usually in the Promenade lounge around 3:00 p.m. where we can meet all the people we make friends with on this board. Then we keep seeing each other over the week and chat some to see how each others trip is going. This has always been great fun for everyone, so keep that in mind too.
Well I had better sign off for now. Let me know how your trip to DL goes this weekend. we will probably go to WDW on sunday. It is suppose to be really hot this weekend, so we'll see.

Happy monday morning Christine,
How was your trip to DL this weekend? I hope you had an awesome time! :thumbsup2

I didnt make it to WDW because I caught my DH's cold and didnt feel like walking around all day, maybe next weekend. :confused3

We have been in the 90's everyday now and the humidity is starting in. Of course living in Las Vegas I dont have to tell you about the heat! :sunny:

Did you guys wear Pirate costumes on your cruise? pirate:
If not, are you going to wear something pirate this crusie?

I have an outfit I threw together and will wear it again. I may change from the skirt to pants, not sure yet. Sometimes it is so windy out on deck a skirt can be a real problem, especially if your bouncing up and down anyway!!! :rolleyes1
I am trying to figure out something for DH to wear. He will wear something simple, but he is not real adventurous that way. He usually wears a pirate t-shirt and bandana, which works well, but I would like a little more for him.
Any ideas??

When did you cruise last December.?
We cruised on 12/17 on the Magic. :cloud9:
Were you on the same ship as us??
That would be a weird coincidence wouldnt it.

well enough gossip for now.
I hope we can keep this thread bumped up so others will see it and join us. :woohoo:

Drop me a line when you get the chance :surfweb:

DL was great, very crowded but we have gotten used to that. Ever since the 50 Anniversary the parks have been very very crowded. It's not like WDW where you don't notice 40,000 ppl. DL is so small you can barely walk in some areas it's just body to body. Sorry you weren't feeling well this weekend. There's alway next week :)

We were on the December 4th cruise. We did buy Pirates in the Caribbean tees and had goofy pirate bandanas so I think we will wear the same thing for this cruise. No full pirate costume but close enough.

Yes, it has already been over 100 here but there is no humidity and that really does make a difference until it gets to be over 105 than it is just unbearable to be outside but that's why god invented central air conditioning :sunny:

Looks like we are going the have the ship to ourselves

PS: Yes I would love to see pictures of your dining room

Hi Christine,
I loved the pictures of you and DH. :thumbsup2 Our POTC shirts are blue and have pictures front and back. They are the original ones that came out at the same time as the movie. You could only buy it in the parks, at that time.
There is a new mickey ears with pirate pirate: bandana that just came out for sale that I may buy for us before we cruise in September 06.

I went to DL once when I was 14 and it was very crowded even way back then!! That was a long, long time ago, guess i am giving away my age here huh :confused3

I will try and send the pics of the diningroom, but i still can only post one picture per post. I cant seem to get 2 on one post. I am still missing something on sending pictures, so it may take a few posts. :thumbsup2

Hi Kathy and Christine. I'm so glad that this thread has started. I tried to start one in March, and it didn't stick. Anyway, my family is going on this cruise with you guys. We consist of myself (36), DW (36), DD (10) and DD (7). This will be our second Disney Cruise. We went on the Magic in 2/06. We wanted to go this year, but we have another trip that was booked already. We've been on RCCL and Carnival but love Disney. The kids love Disney as well. They're only this age once so we booked. The nice part about booking year and a half in advance is that we can save each month for the trip. I look forward to staying in touch for the next 18 months or so.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Wow, Kathy, you are one active Disney Cruiser (and poster).

It's funny, our family is kinda backwards. I'm the one who plans everything and gets excited way too early. My wife will start getting excited (and planning) about the Monday before we leave. She tells me that I could be a travel agent if my current job doesn't work out.

Let's see if I can answer your questions. First of all, I'm always outnumbered. I live with 3 females. So, this thread is no different. On our Feb '06 cruise, we did western but not cozumel. We went to Costa Maya instead. My wife and I are originally from NJ but now live in PA. We only moved 1 state over. Not too adventurous.

We are looking forward to this cruise, but there are a lot of calender pages to flip in the meantime. I'll try to keep up with you guys when work and family allows me. It's nice to meet both of you. Now, lets get some more people. I see the week before and after us are pretty active. Take care.

OK, so on top of being obsessed with planning Disney vacations, I am also a compulsive shopper (which I have to stop doing if I am going to afford my cruise) so I just went to Disney Shopping and bought matching bathing suits for the cruise (what it's only 18 months away, I'm going to start packing soon :rotfl2: ) . Don't know how my husband will feel about them but I'm the one who packs his luggage so he really doesn't have a choice :smooth: .

Howdy christine and jim :sunny:

I always shop early too. I always have 10 or 15 things I am thinking about for the cruise and when ever I see something i need I grab it. If it is clothes then that is incentive to make sure they still fit down the road.
My problem is I cruise fairly often so i have to replace things often, which can add up the $$. but I like to go to flea markets and such which helps.

jim,
I am the planner too. But after so many cruises I know just how to pack and what to take. of course I have still been known to forget something from time to time. :rolleyes1
My DH always acts like he isnt excited, but I know better. He just tries to get my goat, so to speak!! He will read all the posts, :surfweb: but never posts himself.

Are you guys going to make door signs? :confused3
I usually make a couple for our door. It is so much easier to find your room with pictures on them. :yay:

Jim, your kids might even like to make a sign each to go on your door. I have seen some very creative signs done by kids.

well time to run, at least we are still on page one for people to find us. if at least one of us posts each day we will stay on pages one or two which would be great.

If you have any questions please ask and one of us will try to answer them for you. I have done a lot of DCL cruises. By the time we take this cruise it should be # 15. We have cruised with ages of 18 months to 51 years of age, so we have experienced most areas of the ship so I should be able to answer most question you may have.
Have you sent off for the free DVD that DCL offers?? I'm sure you and the kids would love to watch it. it will really get you excited!!

Welcome Deana, I don't know how we are going to make it 18 months, oh wait my ticker now says 17 months and 4 weeks, don't know what the difference is but 17 sounds much better than 18. I want to go now. You will absolultly love the cruise. My husband and I didn't think we would like it and it turns out we loved it.

If it is clothes then that is incentive to make sure they still fit down the road.
My thoughts exactly. It's funny I am planning more for the cruise that is 18 months away than I am planning our trip to Hawaii which is only 5 months away. I think it is just more fun planning Disney Trips.

Yes, I am planning on making a sign for my door. I did this the last cruise and my husband didn't know why but when he saw how many people made them and how much easier it was to find our room he understood. I think my room will be a little easier to find this time because it's a suite so I am assuming it has a bigger door

My husband is the same way with planning he acts like he doesn't care but then will ask how the planning is going. He is happy knowing that all he has to do is show up and everything else it planned for him. I keep telling him that on our next vacation he is going to have to plan one of the days :rotfl: like I would ever let that happen.

Hey Christine - you now live in my second favorite place - Vegas. We will be there week of July 4th at Rio for DD's dance nationals. Next time you are at the Santa Fe Station, you'll crack up to find my mom on the Wall of Fame!! :cool1: Is that a riot or what? My girls love the Kids Quest. Anyway, I'm a shopper too. Have already found and bought the red/khaki family outfits at the Disney Store.

We live in Southern California and visit Disneyland often.

Hi Kathy. Yes, we've ordered the dvd, but haven't received yet. I'm sure I'll have a million questions as the months slowly roll by. Thanks for offering your Disney knowledge! Glad to hear some grandparents will be on board too. My mom was recently widowed and always cruised with my dad. She surprised us with the cruise, so I hope she can have a great time too.

Well our first week together is almost over. You know what that means dont you?? :confused3
It means we are one week closer to our cruise!!

Deana,
I'm sure your mom will have a great time. :cloud9: I always try to arrange a cruise meet on board the first day in the afternoon so any of us who want to can meet and put faces with names. If you guys come she will meet lots of people :grouphug: and from past experiences I can tell you that she will see them all over the ship for the week and most stop and say HI and ask how the cruise has ben going for them. :woohoo:
This has always been a highlight of our cruises. :thumbsup2
I love meeting new people and then seeing them all week long, they have such great things to share as the week goes on.

Does your mom own a computer?
maybe she would like to post here too and get aquainted. We'd love to have her post too!! The more people who join us the more fun it will be!! :yay:

Well it seems we have people from both sides of the US and Christine is 1/3 of the way across. We all know what the summer heat is like from where we live too!! Especially Christine!! WOW!! over 100 a lot, I couldnt take that!
I hibernate in the summer here when the humidity sets in as much as I can. I get up early and do all my shopping and back home by 9 to 10 a.m. when a all possible.
We do go out to the theme parks, but then again, we usually leave by early afternoon due to the heat!! :sunny:

Deana, it is a small world after all. When you come here in July you must go out to Red Rock Casino. It is beautiful. I have spent the past 2 months working on the opening of the property, they also have a Kids Quest out there. Next time I am in Santa Fe I will look for your Mom, what's her name?

We were going to DL every few months and even had Annual Passes but everything has just gotten so expensive. I hope when the 50th is over the prices will go back to normal. We are planning to go back for a couple of days in September and then hopefully at the begining of December.

Heat what heat it's only going to be 101 today, that's nothing. Now when Deana gets here it should be 120 :sunny: now that's when you really feel it.

OK so I think I have a major problem. Yesterday I looked at the Navagators and pretty much planned my whole week  . I just can't help myself. I get on these kicks when all I want to do is plan. The funny thing is I know the navagators will probably change 5 times before we even get there.

mom x4,grandma x4
05-25-2006, 12:49 PM
Yes the naviagtors do change often. So you will get to plan again and again.
The only down side is most of the time people do not post the new Navigators so we only have the old ones to look at. guess we will just be surprised when we get on board.
I have 2 7 day cruises before this cruise, so maybe I can get a copy of them posted for you guys when I return. :goodvibes
Of course they still wont be new by the time we cruise. :hourglass
Take care everyone,

OK Kathy - my first of many questions . . .

Must or must not? --

Tea with Alice for girls
Bingo
Palo

Helppppp!

Definitely going to do some door signs. I will probably start now and obsess over. Am also already searching for pirate costumes. Even getting DH to go for it. pirate:

I CAN"T WAIT!!!!
:jumping1:

Christine - let me know where I can get a good pizza when I'm in Vegas in July! Been waiting for Red Rock to open. The pool looks unbelievable. We will definitely make time to check it out. Keep cool. :sunny:

mom x4,grandma x4
05-25-2006, 04:34 PM
Hi Deana,

Tea with Alice is great for girls. they can dress pretty and get to be proper ladies for awhile. :thumbsup2
I have not eaten in Palo's because DH and I didnt really see anything on the menu we thought was extra special that we would like. But I have read dozens of posts saying Palo's brunch is a must. More so than dinner. :goodvibes I'm sure you wont be disappointed if you go. One tip I do know. Do all 3 restaurants before you do Palos. You want to experience them all, but the first time you are in them they each have something special that happens or something special to see, that doesnt happen later in the week. So book Palos on 4, 5 or 6 night or brunch. I have been told the chocolate souffle is out of this world!!!
Bingo i have done a couple of times. It is fun, but is kind of spendy. I would wait until towards the end of the week so the jackpot has built up good and then go for it. The final night is usually held in the walt disney theater because it draws a BIG crowd!! Kids under 18 cant play, but they dont mind if they sit in and you can let them play your cards, but they cant call out bingo or collect a cash prize.

I always think about door signs for ever it seems. I have lots of stuff left over from past cruise door signs, so I always lay them out all different ways and keep rearranging them a lot. Just when I think I 've got it all figured out and I wont have to buy anything new to make them, I change my mind and go out looking for stuff again!! :cool1:
A funny story about door signs, last year my GD who was 14 at the time made a great one. ;) She had a picture of DH (grandpa) asleep on deck 4 snoring with his mouth wide open. :lmao: Great picture!! Ok, she printed it off the computer on to the sign then she put bold black letters that said:
Here's my grandpa on deck 4,
Oh my how he can snore!
If you see him around the ship,
Please tell him you saw this!!

Love Ana

He had people coming up to him and saying, I saw your picture on the door!! :rotfl2:
She showed it to him on the second day!! It was a great joke!! ;)

I will have to give the door sign a lot of thought.

Good Friday morning everyone, :sunny:
well this is the start of a 3 day weekend for most people, so enjoy it if that pertains to you!!

Jim, I hope all of us gabby ladies havnt scared you off. :goodvibes I know you are busy with work and family, but drop us a line when you get the chance. :thumbsup2

I missed watching the Wonder pull out last night on the web cam :sad2:
I usually watch both ships pull out each week, it keeps me excited for when it will be our turn to be on board.

Have a great day everyone, :woohoo:

Hi everyone. You didn't scare me off. I read the posts every few days or so. I'm coaching softball for both of my girls now so that keeps me busy this time of year. It looks like we have a fun group forming.

The other night my 5yo daughter and I were watching Deal or No Deal and she turns to me and says that she wants me to go on that show so we can go on a Disney Cruise everyday. It was pretty funny. She has little concept of money (like her mother) (just kidding, sort of).

Kathy, I liked your input on door signs. We didn't do one in Feb and wished we did. I think next time, we'll put my wife's scrapbooking skills to use and have her and the kids do a door sign.

By the way, I forget to mention that my mother and my in laws are going on this cruise with us. This is their first Disney Cruise. They've been on other lines but not Disney. They are excited as well. So, there will be a few Grandparents on board.

Enjoy the long weekend.

Deana, my husband makes great New York pizza. He is in Green Valley. Where are you staying?

If you are only going to go to Palos once make sure it's brunch. We did both on our 4-night cruise and I would say brunch is better. One of the main reasons we booked a Cat 3 was for concierge. We are hoping to have dinner at Palo's once and brunch twice. It's that good. The service was unbelivable. They give you so much food at brunch it is impossible to eat it all. The server was practically begging us to take food back to our room.

She has little concept of money (like her mother)

Hey I have that same problem :rotfl2:

I was planning on watching the Wonder yesterday and at exactly 2 we lost power. Oh well, there's always Saturday....and Sunday!

Have a great long weekend everybody

Hi Jim. It looks like your girls are similar in ages to mine - currently 5, 7 and 9. When the girls and I watch Deal or No Deal, we always call in for the Lucky Case game and say that we will use the money for a Disney Cruise too! Fortunately for us, Nanny surprised us with the trip, so I can stop guessing with silly case has the $10,000.

Christine, we will be at the Rio all week and will definitely need to get out! We would love to drive over to Green Valley for some pizza and hopefully meet a fellow cruiser. :woohoo:

Have a great long weekend everyone. Kind of overcast here today, but am looking forward to some sun, swimming and relaxation.

Howdy everyone :sunny:

Jim,
That is great you have more family coming along. :woohoo: If they have a computer, tell them they are invited to join our group. :grouphug:
Maybe then I wont be the oldest on this thread!! :lmao:
You can laugh, but I have kids close to yours and Christines ages!! ;)
Scary thought! At least I still look 39, :confused3 just ask me and I will tell you I look 39 and that's the truth!! :rotfl2: Grandma's dont lie!!! And we have perfect memories!! Just ask me and I will tell you!!

No plans here for the weekend. Living close to all the theme parks means massive crowds of people on 3 day weekends, so we stay home and BBQ and play in the pool. :Pinkbounc

Deana and Christine,
all the talk of pizza makes me hungry. It also reminds me of when I owned a pizza place called Fat Rosa's a few years ago. Pizza is awesome!! I love making it even now after making thousands of them. :stir:

If you guys get the chance, tey to post at least once over the weekend and we will stay bumped up so maybe others will see us and join our thread too.

If your traveling somewhere this weekend, drive carefully!!

Hi Deana. Yes, our girls are similar ages. Mine are 5 and 8 right now. Maybe, closer to the date, we can get them to chat a little. On our first Disney Cruise, our 8yo met a bunch of friends in the clubs. Our 5yo was a little shy and only met a few friends. By the cruise, they will be 7 and 10 so I think they'll even meet more friends this time around. Wow, I can't believe I'll have a 10yo child at that point. I'm getting old.
Back to the BBQ.
Jim
p.s. I'm on my wife's computer so the screen name is my hers. Sorry, not a new family.

Howdy everyone,
Hey, do any of you use the web cams to look at the ships while they are in port?? :confused3 I do this all the time. For weeks the port cam wasnt working, then they "FIXED" it???? It now has a picture of old buildings around the area, but it never shows the ships :furious:
I just wondered if anybody else was getting frustrated with it?

I can go to two palms or the jetty park cams to watch it after it has pulled out, but I would like to see it docked. I guess I am a creature of habit :teeth:
We had another brush fire last night not too far away. Some people had to evacuate, but later returned home ok, no homes lost, or people hurt so far. We have had a lot of fires this year, we are so dry and even though they have been saying up to 40% chance of showers we havnt seen any thing where we live. Roads to the port are constantly being closed due to smoke and making it really hard to get to the port. I was afraid we would miss the ship earlier this month when we cruised. We got on board about 2:45, we are usually there by 10:30 a.m. :sad2:

Well I hope you are all dong well this weekend.

crissythecropper, ok I understand you are on your wife's computer, but which lady are you married to here? I was trying to place you??
I'm sure Jim will really appreciate having another man posting here too. He is very out numbered ya know!!

Take care everyone

Good Morning, I was doing some work for the Pizza Place so I figured I would check in. Having a great weekend so far. It's actually been a little chilly here. It only got up to 78 yesterday so no pool for us yet. It's going to be in the 80's today so maybe we will try today.

Yes, I always watch the web cams. I didn't realize they were down. The ones in Hawaii have been down too. I watched for a quick second yesterday and it seemed like they were working again.

I am really excited because we just surprised my Mom with tickets to Hawaii for her birthday. She is turning 60 this year and my whole family is coming to Vegas to celebrate (11 of us in all). My sisters and brother (there are 4 of us) decided to pay for her to come to Hawaii with me, my husband and my sister in November. She has never been there so she was really surprised. We were going to wait until her birthday in August but she needed to let her job know as soon as possible so no one else takes that week. She is a little nervous because she has some very long flights. She is still in NY so she will fly here on Friday night and then Saturday morning we fly to Hawaii. For her it's a total of 11 hours each way :sad2: . At least she has a little break between flights. It's also a 6 hour time difference so she will have some jetlag issues but she is still very excited.

Kathy, that's awful about all the fires you guys are having. We have them a lot here too between the heat and the wind it gets pretty bad. No one is allowed to have camp fires or mini-bbq's in any of the state parks the entire summer. Hopefully you will get some rain soon.

OK, back to work :rolleyes2 some day off!

Good morning everyone,
I hope everyone had a good long weekend :thumbsup2

We have our brush fires up and burning again. 2 of the main roads to the port are closed again yesterday and today. :sad2: At least there arent any ship in port right now, so people wont be trying to get to the port. Last month when we went the smoke was terrible. We had to chage our route twice to get to the port and it took a lot longer. I was afraid we would miss the ship. we usually arrive 10 to 10:30 and we stepped on the ship at 2:45. That was too close for me!!! :guilty:

They are predicting some rain later in the week, but i have heard that before. I will believe it when I see it!! :rolleyes1
Rain may bring more problems before it helps too. This time of the year when we get rain we also get thunder and lightning. We had lady and her 2 year old son hit a few days ago by lighting. They are recovering, but it serves as a reminder that florida has a big problem with lightning. Lightning means more fires!!!! :furious:

well not much happening around here today. Lots of heat and sunshine. :sunny: The cows are in the pasture for me to watch. ( not our cows) I named them Mr. Sirloin, Mr. T-Bone and Mr. Porterhouse. :rotfl2: I guess that tells you what their future holds! Another neighbor has about 6 chickens too. They are not your typical chickens. They are beautiful. Some special breed like you would see at the fair.
Now that you've all heard what an exciting life I have here I will sign off.
Yes I really do have a life, :cloud9: just somedays it doesnt sound like it!!

Sounds like you have a great life to me. You can do what you want, whenever you want even if it means watching dinner play in the pasture ;)

Finally made it to the pool yesterday. It was a beautiful day. In the 80's and not a cloud in the sky. One of those days that I realized why I moved here.

I never realized how bad the fires where in Florida. I knew about the lighting but didn't know you guys had such a problem with fires. For people who do not live there how do they know a different way to get to the port? Are there any signs? I hope Disney takes into consideration that people may be delayed and they wait for them.

If I was delayed, I would be freaking out. The first time we were on the cruise we got to the port at 10:30 and I was mad because I wanted to be there at 10:00 :confused3 Yeah, I'm a little crazy that way but hey I am paying a lot of money I want to be on that ship every minute I can.

I guess I will do some work now, talk to you guys later.

Howdy,
the fires are not the norm for here. 6 years ago we had a drought when we first moved here and they were bad. Now we are having another drought and the fires are back again. When we went to the port they had NO detour signs, just barracades saying road closed or a cop car with flashing lights and a cop waving you to turn around. :sad2: They didnt give directions to anyone. :confused3 It was horrible!! Luckily we had looked up alternate roads, but some of them were closed and then we hit construction that sent us off the only road we knew was open for sure. we went for 25 or more miles before we saw a DCL bus, so we followed it to the port. Lucky for us. :teeth: There were several people I talked to that did the same thing. DCL wont wait for the average person but they will wait if their buses are late. so on all the message boards people have been posting about it in hopes others who are flying in and renting a car will know what is going on here. After we got back we heard you could dial 511 on your phone for a road report. Along the highways the information signs said to tune in 1300 on your radio, but there was no information there, just garbled noise!! I was mad :furious: The first thing I did when we got home was to go to the posts for the next 4 cruises and posted :surfweb: about the detours so people would know about it, plus I put a post on the general forum, and more people did the same after me, so we did try to spread the word to others as best we could. I told DH that I had to post all that or I would feel so bad if someone didnt know and they missed the ship, just because i was too lazy to write a few posts. so I hope it helped someone. i did get some thanks from the next cruisers.
I was totally freaked out by the time we arrived at the port!!! :crazy2:

I hope we dont have to contend with that again!! :rolleyes1

Hi all. Just giving us a quick bump. Had a very relaxing long weekend. The kids were in the pool for 3 days straight. Kathy - hope those fires settle down. We actually get quite a few fires here in So. Cal. every year too. It is so dry and hot. Saw one just over the ridge today. Got a new job working for an old friend, but lots of problems there. Just keep thinking that I have to pay for everything we want to do on this cruise, so I keep on goin. :badpc: Have a great week everyone.

Good morning all,
How's everyone today?? :jumping2:

We are catching a little break in the heat today. :sunny: It's only supoose to get to 83 today!! That is perfect to me with a slight breeze. ;)

I am hoping to make it to WDW this weekend. :woohoo: It has been about a month since I have been there. :sad2: I have been fighting a cold and by the weekend I just dont have the energy to roam around the parks. :faint:

I am afraid people who are cruising on the Wonder tomarrow will have some problems getting to the port. The smoke from the brush fires have closed a few of the roads again, yesterday and today. No sign of them letting up for a long time. I hope they all leave a little early.

Well I need to zip out early today :car: and go to the pharmacy. My DH accidentally knocked over my pills :rolleyes1 and all but 5 went into a sink of soapy water, so now I have to go and explain about it so I can get them replaced!!

Have a great day everyone,

Deana, I know how you feel. Last year I had the worst job ever but I had to stay there because I wasn't going to let it ruin my vacation. As soon as I knew I had enough money I left. Just hang in there. I promise you it will be well worth it when you get on that ship.

Well, today should be the last day our temperature is in double digits. Our forecast for the near future is over 100 everyday (but it's a dry heat).

To keep this bumped up we should all ask a question a day. It could be Disney or non disney related. This way we will get to know each other and keep this post on the first page. Ok, here is my question:

Who is your favorite Disney Character?

Mine is Stitch, I just love how rambunctious he is. I even named my dog after him. Which, turned out to be a bad thing because he is just as rambunctious as the real stitch :stitch:

Deana,
My DH is the one who drew the stencils and painted them on. :goodvibes My idea, his talent!! I couldnt believe he would do that for me, :cloud9: but it is so cute. We have Mickey silouette too.

My DH has adjusted ot the fact that when it comes to disney stuff he may as well just sit back and enjoy the ride!! :confused3 I am a nut about disney things and he knows it. After almost 33 years of marriage he is numb to it all anyway! :rotfl2:

Ok I guess I will ask the 2nd question and I will stick with disney questions.

What is your favorite animated disney movie, and what is your favorite disney regular movie?

My favorite animated movie is Toy Story
Regular movie is Pirates of the Caribbean.

I am old enough to remember the old Davy Crockett series on the world of disney, it is a favorite of mine too.

Movies were too hard to pick, I love lots of disney movies. My DVD cabinet is filled with disney movies, both old and new. No little kids here to watch them, just me!! :rotfl: I do watch them, guess I am just a kid at heart!! :goodvibes I hope to stay that way, I have no intention of growing up!!! :cloud9:

Good Morning,

I would have to say The Little Mermaid is my favorite animated disney film. I just love it. I have a tradition around Christmas time I put it on and wrap all the presents while I watch it. I usually watch it one or two more times during the year. The Incredibiles is a close second. I love Jack Jack. As far as live action I would also have to say Pirates is my favorite. Johnny Depp in black eye liner, yummy! I just read that they will be having a Capt Jack face character in the parks this summer  I need to get there.

It's pretty much the same everyday. When we get rain or even a chance of rain they all get so excited. Although, I can't remember the last it rained here. I think it was in March :confused3 I hope everyone has a great weekend. I won't ask any question today so everyone can catch up. Don't really have too many plans for the weekend. We just got back from MGM studios a few minutes ago. It is Star`Wars weekends right now so we saw lots of neat costumes around the park. Some were on guests, not cast members. Then I got to meet a very nice lady named Kaye that was on her first trip to WDW and her first disney cruise tomarrow. I have been answering questions for her for a few months now and we finally got to meet. It was such fun. They are on :cloud9:

Then we went and saw the new X-men movie. Our son has been wanting us to see it , so we finally went. It was actually pretty good. :goodvibes Lots of action and a few surprises too.

Howdy,
Hey,
how hot is Vegas today?? I saw some awefully HOT temps on the news. They didnt give Vegas, but others were way over 100!!!

I am spending today covering wallplate and switchplate covers with leftover wallpaper borders from each room. It gives the room a nice finished look. Plus it is free, to buy designer covers cost a fortune!!! And this way they match perfectly. :goodvibes

Not much else happening here today. I would complain about the heat, but after thinking about the temps in Vegas I feel very lucky to be only in the 90's. :sunny:

When I work up at 6:30 it was already 94. It should be about 109 and yes that is hot I don't care how dry it is (only 13% humidity). We have been under an extreme heat alert all weekend(ya think), it was a cool 105 yesterday. We were at the pool most of the day. The funny thing is as hot as it gets here if you are in the water and the wind blows you get a little cold. It usually doesn't get this hot until July. I can't imagine what it will be like next month :furious: It was a very mild summer last year so I guess we will pay for it this year.

Kathy, have fun decorating your house today. I haven't even painted my walls and I have been in my house for over 2 years. One day ;)

Deana, how was your weekend in Disneyland, hope the girls did well and you got to spend some time with the mouse!

Jim, hope you won a game or two.

Question of the day:

How many and what type of pets do you have?

I have two pomeranians. You already met Stitch he is 2 -1/2 and a terror. Pompom is my other dog. She is 13 and very cranky. She just wants to lay around but Stitch will have none of that. I don't think she likes him very much :confused3

mom x4,grandma x4

Whay types of pets?

All my pets are of the stuffed kind. I watch the neighbors 3 moo moo cows out my patio. I have named them Mr. Sirloin, Mr. T-Bone and Mr. Porterhouse. :rotfl: The other neighbor has 5 or 6 fancy breed of chickens that I watch too. Even though I dont own them I have 2 small lizards that live on the child safety fence aound our pool. Henry and Henrietta are their names. Dont ask me how I know which is male or female, you dont want to know :rotfl2: Lets just say in a few weeks i am expecting some baby lizards to be joining us :thumbsup2
I am a big time dog lover but at this time it would be unfair to a dog to have him as a pet. :guilty: Our yard isnt fenced in and I just dont have enough time to give a pet all the attention and love he deserves.

So for now I have lots of stuffed animals around my home. :goodvibes If you look back on page 2 of this post you will see some of them in pictures i posted in my dining room.
My oldest son has a 3 year old black lab I just adore!! :dogdance: When he comes over I let him swim in our pool. I cook him up chicken or beef for a snack. I love to spoil him and he talks to me all the time and follows me everywhere I go, even to the bathroom if I'd let him. His name is Poncho and believe me he doesnt know he is a dog!!
So those are my pets.

But if you want to feel good about it, wait until next June and look at how much MORE that same room would cost if you were booking it then!! Then just before you cruise , look again at how much it has gone up and you will feel much better about it !!! :thumbsup2
We have saved a couple of thousand dollars on 2 rooms before. Of course for us, we can sometimes get a florida residents rate discount. But you wont know until a month before you sail, and we have to call and check all the time because they wont tell you on their own. Our last 3 day last month we got out cruise 1/2 price, so we got a verandah really cheap!! :cloud9:

I forgot on the animal question to say I use to have a Pomeranean dog growing up. I think he wasa bout 16 years old when we lost him. His name was Fluffy.

Ok, we need another question today:
What is your favorite food and dessert???

My favorite food has always been Watermelon. :cloud9: In my teens I ate a 25 pound melon all by myself in one setting!! :rotfl: I have done this more than once, of course that was a few years ago!!
Dessert is harder to choose. :confused3 I love chocolate pie, coconut pie and warm brownies. I guess I could make an endless list of desserts!! Better stop while I'm ahead here. :yay:

I think as it gets closer I will feel better about the price, I hope  . That's great about the discounts you can get. If Disney offers a discount, they sure do make you work for it. Disneyland does that all the time too. You have to call everyday to see if their special discounts are available :confused3 .

Gosh that's a tough question. I guess I would have to say that Italian food is my favorite. Chicken Marsala, Chicken Parm, Baked Ziti - OK, I'm hungry now

My favorite dessert is anything chocolate. Actually chocolate could also fall into the catagory of being my favorite food  I love chocolate.

Weather update:
105 with 4% humidity but we have some storms rolling in, they should cool us down to chilly 100.

Hi all. Just got our DCL DVD. :cool1: Have watched it several times already. We are in rooms 6068 and 6070. Pet dog, cocker spaniel named, of course, Belle. princess: And one beta fish on it's last leg, I mean fin. :sad1: Had a great time at the dance competition at the Disneyland Hotel. Oh the great stuff they had in the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney. The pirate accessories are awesome right now! pirate:

I am bidding on this Mickey Mouse scarf on ebay right now. I must have it for a dress I plan on wearing. I will pay whatever it takes to get it!!! ::MickeyMo My husband is going to kill me. I'll let you know if I'm victorious.

I have serious problems. Hope all is well.

Deana,
so glad to hear you had a good time at your dance competition. :cheer2:

I have seen lots of them at WDW over the years. The kids always give 100% and then some!! I especially like seeing the littliest ones who are just starting to do this. You can tell when it is their first competition. :cloud9:

You didnt miss much around here. It's been pretty quiet.
I still have a lousy cold and we are still asking questions to get aquainted, which I know you noticed since you answered them in your post.
Anybody got a question for today?? :confused3

If not I will try to think of one later in the day. I want all of us to have a chance to ask things and I have asked a couple already, so what questions do you guys have?? Excluding age, weight etc... :rotfl2:

On another cruse I had a young single parent (man) who was the only man who posted. One of his last questions before we cruised was "How old are you guys"?? Nobody answered him but me. I thought it was funny. He was just trying to get a feel for our general age group, but I told him that wasnt too smart asking all those women their ages!! He was very brave! Ha! Ha!

Have a great day everyone,

What is your favorite TV show?

Who is your favorite TV personality?

I only really watch 2 shows, Monk and NCIS.
They are tied for favorites.

I dont think I really have a favorite TV personality. I cant really answer my own question :rotfl2: I guess I could say Peter Falk as Columbo, Tony Shaloub as Monk. Usually I like comedians, but just keep drawing a blank!!
Guess there really isnt much on for me right now accept old reruns :sad2:

Good morning,

Deana, glad you had a great weekend. Good luck on ebay, I hope you get the scarf. I won't even look at ebay for fear of me being out of control with bidding. Too many Disney things on there that I would just have to have.

I know about World of Disney, we were only there for a few minutes last month so I really didn't get to look at all the pirate stuff. I am trying really hard to get there in September for my Wedding anniversary. Don't know if I will be able to afford it since we are going to Hawaii :confused3 Looks like I will just have to stop shopping :scared1:

My favorite TV show is Friends, even though they are all reruns I still love it. My husband and I quote from it all the time. When we were on the cruise last Dec our room host said hello Mr. Joseph every morning and that reminded us of an episode were Ross and Rachel get married so the entire trip we would say "Good Morning Mr. Joseph, Well Good Morning Miss Rachel:rotfl2: Well is was funny at the time. I also love American Idol, Sorpanos (although this season was kind of disappointing) and Nip/Tuck (wow, I watch a lot of televison)

I guess TV personality would have to be Jennifer Aniston in Friends, she was so funny :happytv:

Hey everyone,
i want to pick your brains a little.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just read a thread where someone is trying to make up clues for a scavenger hunt for her kids on board. :thumbsup2 I thought my GKs would enjoy something like that in August when we go. :goodvibes
Nothing to physically take , just clues to find places on the ship. Her example was something like, You have to walk the red to find the gold. Meaning to walk the red carpet to get to the Golden Mickeys show in the WD theater. You get the idea?? :confused3
At the end I will have a small pirate chest for each of them with a few goodies in it and some spending $$ for the islands . Now I am trying to figure out clues, any help would really be appreciated!!!!! The kids are 12 and 15 so they should understand most clues by themselves.

Thanks,

Wow, that is hot weather you're having Kathy especially with all the humidity. It's over 60% today and we are just dying. The news said you were still having problems with fires too. I can't believe how dry it has been there. We got hit by a couple of pretty intense storms last night but I don't mmind them because we don't have too much exciting weather here. :sunny: pretty much the same everyday.

I will try to think of some clues for you. That sounds like a lot of fun of the kids.

Good Morning everyone :goodvibes

Kathy glad to hear you are getting some rain down there. Wow, those fires are really close to WDW. I also heard you guys were getting hit by your first hurricane. Where you ever affected by the really bad ones that have hit the past two years?

Deana, I bet the girls are excited that school is over. Do you guys have any big plans for a summer vacation?

So this last question is kind of tricky for me because I don't really like to relax. I am a Type A personality and am always doing something. I have to force myself to relax. That's why I liked the crusie. You kind of have no choice but to take it easy, no parks to get to before the lines get too long :confused3 I have been trying to take it easy on Sunday mornings by laying by the pool but really I am just planning what I will be doing later on. I would have to say what is most relaxing to me is either shopping or planning a vacation :stitch2:

Yes we were a direct hit for Jeanne and Charley and just the outskirts of Ivan. When the eye came over it was really eerie because it was all calm and quiet for awhile. Our neighbor lost part of his roof, someones air conditioner unit went rolling down the street, another screend porch crashed into a downed tree out front of our house. A large tree on both side of us, just off our property went down, I saw them fall. The worst part was NO electricity for 2 weeks in the summer heat.
We had a guardian angle looking out for us because we never even lost a shingle!! One tiny tree, 5 foot tall beside the house, twirled a few circles then laid down, but that was pretty much it. DH works for a major builder and so many houses under construction had major damage, plus people pulled them apart to get plywood for their windows, what a mess!!!
That was in Poinciana. We just moved here 3 months ago, about 80 miles from where we use to live. Now we have a generator, extra gas, food, water, and a pool to cool off in and a big freezeer to freeze blocks of ice to keep the food cold when we dont have the generator running. We are well prepared, so we wont get hit hard!!!
Lots of wind today and it rained lightly all day yesterday, we are suppose to get more rain and wind from the back side of the storm. I hope we get more rain, we really need it.

Have a great day,
Kathy

I cant believe we dont have anymore people posting with us. :confused3
Oh well, it is aways off yet, but other cruises that far out have a lot of posters in board already. Guess it gives us time to get aquainted before we get so many people that it gets hard to remember who is who!!

Starting this early I will be curious to see how many pages and posts we have by the time we cruise!! It could be a lot. :thumbsup2

My 7 day August cruise only has 11 other families besides us posting. That really surprised me, it is so close and still so few people.

One of the reasons I chose this week was because I knew it wouldn't be as busy. When we went in December the ship was not at full occupancy and it was great. There wasn't more than 6 couples at Serenity Bay and I don't think I ever saw more than 10 people at the adult pool the whole time. I like to travel during the slow season. I am sure we'll get a few more people as it gets closer. I have to admit on my last cruise I was more of a lurker on these boards and I didn't join in any of the cruise meets.

Well not much planned for this weekend, just helping a friend plan a baby shower and maybe go to Red Rock Casino for a nice dinner with my husband since it is our 16th Anniversary of being together. People always make fun of us for celebrating it but this date is more important to us than our wedding anniversary. If we had never met, we would have never gotten married, right :confused3 Anyway, that's it. It's going to get hot again, we have had some unseasonably cool temps (that's a quote from our weather people) this last week and it's been great, mid 90's but it will be well over 100 this weekend.

Kathy, I have a favor to ask you. I know you don't go on your 7 night cruise until Aug but if I don't ask you now I may forget. Can you please give me a full list of food serverd at Goofy's Galley, I know they serve wraps and fruit but I would like to know what specific types of wraps and fruit. Hi,
Yes, I will be happy :goodvibes to write down what types of wraps they have and pastas too if you want. I think there were 4 or 5 different wraps last time and a couple of pastas. I cant guarantee they will stillbe the same when we sail, but i will check it out for you. I know there is usually one vegetarian, such as spincah and c ouple of meat. I remember they did change some each day. DH loved the chicken one last trip.
Fruits are always, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, bananas, grapes (green) apples, oranges, whole kiwi, pineapple too.
DH loves the bananas, they taste different from what you buy in the store. I think they are Dole, not sure I would have to ask him.
Glad to hear you had a cold front!! Ha! Ha! :rotfl2:

Kathy or anyone else,
Have you done this Eastern cruise before? I would like to get ideas for shore excursions or things to do. DH is excited to go to St Marteen. Me too, of course. He wants to go the beach and wait for the a plane to land above his head. Apparently there is a beach next to the airport and planes come really close to the shore. I wanna go sightseeing, of course!

No, I was wrong it wasn't 106...it was 109  yesterday on my drive home from work at 4:30pm...:teeth: yeah that's hot.

Deana, don't worry about the heat as long as you don't go outside :rotfl2: I have eaten at TBones and Terra Rosa in Red Rock both are really good but also very expensive. If I had to choose I would say Terra Rosa but that's because I like Italian food more than steak. If you are looking for something a little cheaper everyone loves Salt Lick BBQ, it's a famous place from Texas. I haven't eaten there but that's because I worked there during opening and have no desire to go back :lmao:

Ilonka, I have read about that beach on a trip report and the person said the plane made her fall down :faint: so be careful. If the excursions don't change, I am planning on doing the Golden Eagle Catamaran in St Martin and Capt Nautica Snorkel in St Thomas/St John. My husband and I are not the type of people to spend all day at the beach so we figured we would do some snorkeling on the first two ports of call and just hang at the adult beach in Castaway Cay.

OK time to go. I will be training for a new job this week so I don't know how often I will be able to post, but don't worry I will be back, just keep it bumped to the first page.

Yes we have done the eastern a couple of times before. We arnt beach people so cant tellyou about them. Sorry!
We did the under 2 flags island tour which was ok, we had 3 beautiful views from up high, but that was all, not really impressed with it. Lucky to have survived the driver we had!!!
DD did the butterfly farm with little kids and loved it. Other DD did snorkeling at Pinel island and said it was AWESOME!! On St. Johns we did a Eco Hike which we really enjoyed! It was hot, but we did have a short swim time towards the end of the hike and water was provided, but NO bathrooms.
The other trip we just explored and shopped on our own. Havnt decided for this trip what we will do for sure. Our beach day is always at CC. Lots of low flying planes in st. maartin. even on the ship you will have many many small sea planes flying very close while your in port. The big airport is right on the beach. we saw it on our tour.

Kathy,
I was thinking the two flag tour would be interested but I guess not. I will be interested in the Dutch side, of course, being my DH's nationality. We like to explore ourselves too but it is kind of hard with two little ones so maybe planning ahead would be better this time. I don't know yet...it's too soon to decide.

The tour wasnt really bad, just not a lot to see other than a few beautiful views of the water. We had 2 young kids with us too and it was a lot of riding to keep them occupied and we did bring snacks which helped. But the shopping was poor compared to what you can do close to the port.
If I was going to do an excursion with kids on the Eastern I would to the st. maartin butterfly farm tour. Kids love it and you will see some of the island on the bus and a short stop for some shopping. Plenty of time to return to the ship for lunch then go on your own to shop if you want.

Take care.

Jim

Hi Jim,
I joined not too long ago and I am trying to read previous posts. My DH tells me the same thing. Actually everyone that travels calls me to find them cheap airfares online.

How did you like Costa Maya? We are going in Sept. but I plan to go to Mahajual beach and do some shopping. No excursions with the kids (DS1 and DD4) b/c I don't think they would tolerate it.

Hi all. I can't believe I registered so I can join this post :rotfl2: My mom is taking my husband, myself and our three girls on our first disney cruise!! I don't know who is more excited, me or the girls (11, 9 on board and 6 at time of cruising). Looking forward to chatting with you and passing the time away until we can go.

Deana
Hi Deana,
My DD will be celebrating her 6th bday onboard. It would be great to find her some friends so she can spend time with them at the OC.

Howdy,
everyone must of had a busy weekend because this board has been very quiet all weekend!
We are getting lots of rain this weekend here. I did watch the Wonder pull out on the port cam and it looked like The weather was good. :thumbsup2 I was happy for them because when it rains the sail away party is always moved into the atrium. It just isnt as much fun inside, way to crowded too.

I didnt do much around here today, mostly laundry and a little shopping.

Hope some of you may have something more exciting to share to keep this thread bumped up!!

Howdy everyone,

This is a little off topic but wanted to let you know that I will become a mommy again this Friday!!! :goodvibes

Of course this time it will be a 4 legged kid :rotfl:

Friday night while we were out back a starving dog came to us. A Boston Terrier. She had been abused. So we fed her, but had to call dog control :guilty: because she wasnt ours and we couldnt let her just wander and starve or get run over!!
Anyway we talked about her all weekend and today DH called me from the shelter. He went there and told them we wanted to adopt her
They would of put her down in a day or two.
So after they spay and give her shots we can pick her up, which will be Friday!! :Pinkbounc

Now it has been 20 plus years since I have had a dog, so I need to buy everything, just like bringing a baby home :teeth:

I am soooo excited!!! My youngest kid is 23 1/2, so it will be a lot of company for me as I am home alone all day while DH works. I am retired early due to health issues, so this will be great !!!

If anyone has any ideas for a name for her, please tell me ASAP. I am really struggling with a name, just like naming our kids!! :rotfl:

Any adive or tips would be greatly appreciated,

kathy

Howdy everyone,

I have had a few people suggest some names. several have said Minnie because she has big eyes and ears like Minnie Mouse has. Buttercup is also been suggested more than once. So many cute names and only one dog!!

I went shopping to get a few things for our next cruise, but i forgot about it :confused3 and wound up buying a doggie carrier, bed, harness and leash instead?? Also made a appt with a vet for a check up and an appt for a groomer this saturday. so we are all set, just need some food for doggie to eat. Need to decide on a name before she arrives!!!

Hope everyone has been having a great day today. Our thread has been pretty quiet lately. Guess everyone is busy with fun family things over the summer months.
Hopefully this will bump us up to page one again for awhile, :thumbsup2

Good Morning all, :sunny:

Well things are going ok today in Florida. Lots of sun this morning, but thunderstorms this afternoon. that is normal this time of the year.

well I think we are down to just a few names for the doggie.
Minnie, Buttercup, Princess, Pixie.
But I could change that totally by friday. :confused3
This is worse than naming the kids when they were born!! At least then i had 9 months to decide!!! :cloud9:

well have a great day everyone, if you have a opinion on a name , please let me know!!

Hello

I'm back, still learning a new job (same job different department) but finally had some time to post.

Kathy, I think you should name her Lucky because she is so lucky to have found wonderful people like you and your husband to save her. You will enjoy her company so much. Life just isn't the same without a dog.

I haven't watched the ships set sail in a long time. I need to make sure I do that this weekend. Speaking of which, I am very excited because I have a 4 day weekend :Pinkbounc Haven't had one of those in a long time. Planning a little shopping, bbqing, sunning and going to see "The Devil wears Prada". I read the book and loved it. It was kind of the way my life was in my last job. I'm so glad I can watch it in the movies instead of live it

Deana, when are you coming to Vegas? It's still hot here but not as bad as it was last week. It's only around 102 with crazy thunderstorms and down pours but that's a Vegas summer.

OK, back to work :surfweb:

Have fun in Vegas!!!! :goodvibes

Maybe you will win enough to pay for another cruise??? :wizard:

We had considered the name Lucky at one point, but we had a dog named that when I was a kid. He wasnt so lucky, he got ran over, so too many sad feelings with that name. But i do appreciate the suggestion. I am still deciding. She is such a sad looking dog with huge bown cow eyes and big ears. So hard to find a name to fit her. :confused3

Out of all the friends and family most seem to like Minnie because they say the big eyes and ears remind them of Minnie mouse, but I am not sure.I may just have to be around her a little while to get a better idea of what seems right.

well anybody got plans for the 4th, besides a trip to Vegas??

we are staying home and just play in the pool some, maybe BBQ and jsut get to know the new doggie.. DH has to finish the fence too. so our weekend is all filled up. Around here there are so many tourists on the holidays we usually dont go out.

Have a great day,

I know that feeling. We avoid the strip as much as we can. Even the local casinos are a mad house.

Sorry about Lucky :guilty: Whatever you do don't name her Stitch :rotfl2: Unless of course you want a really bad dog. Pixie would be my next choice.

HAPPY FRIDAY !!!

Today the doggie stork will finally arrive! :goodvibes
Sometime this afternoon I can go pick up the new dog. I have to call at noon to see when. :confused3
She is getting spayed this morning and her shots too.
Se wont be a happy doggie today I'm sure.
But I will baby her and in a couple days she will be over being sore and we will get better aquainted. :cloud9:
I would say it is :sunny: here today but then I think of the temps in Vegas and decide I'd better not complain!!

Jim, Iknow you said your from PA. Any flooding around your area?? I hope not, I was thinking about you when I heard the news a couple days ago. Hope you are high and dry!! :thumbsup2

Made it home ok with Minnie.
She is not feeling very good, soreness from being fixed and a series of shots. But she is laying on my feet as I type, so she must be bonding with me some.
First thing she did when we got home was run and hide under our diningroom table. I got under there with her for awhile and soon she was checking out the house. Did have a potty accident.
well got to go and check on Minnie.

Howdy,
we were almost to page 3. :confused3
Thought I'd better give us a bump!
Well I was all set to watch the shuttle launch from our backyard yesterday, but no such luck :guilty:
Suppose to try to launch again today, but we have lots of cloud cover, so probably wont be able to see it. Oh well, guess I could :happytv: , but it's just not quite the same as seeing it in person.
DH is almost done with the fence. he has worked so hard everyday for several days to get it done. I am glad he gets tuesday off, he will need it after working so hard all weekend.
He has discovered that he has more muscles than he remembers and that maybe putting up a 6 ft wooden fence at age 50+ isnt the smartest thing he has ever done :rotfl: But they wanted almost $5000 just to install it. Plus materials. So he is doing it himself. It isnt the first one he has put up for us, but at our age I think it will be the last. Next time we will pay someone else to do it!!! To many sore muscles andit has been extra hot and humid out. 8 hours today should finish it up.
well hope you all have agreat 4th. Let me know how your doing when you get the chance. I will try to keep us bumped up to page one so maybe new people will see us and join in.

We had a very interesting 4th. :goodvibes
The neighbor behind us had a rather good size fire in the middle of his yard. His house was safe, but it was very close to his chicken coop. It was even burning up a couple of trees. I heard a loud boom and then there was BIG flames. :confused3 it was much louder than fireworks, so not sure what caused it, but it was scary because the wind was blowing our way. I stood up on the edge of a fence board so I could look over our fence to keep an eye on it. DH went upstairs and watched fromt he bedroom window. It was about 15 minutes before the fire department arrived. This is the 2nd time in 3 months that man has had a fire in his yard. we are very dry here, lots of brush fires around, so that may have something to do with it.
Then Minnie was all upset with the noises and bright flashes. She was barking ( for the first time) and running wildly around the yard. I finally got her in the house. But the fireworks kept going until midnight, so we had a long night here. I felt like a new mom with a fussy baby having to stay up most of the night!! I thought those days were done with, over 24 years ago!! :rotfl:

Well I hope everyone has had a great 4th. :thumbsup2

Gosh, Kathy that sounds pretty scary to have a fire so close to you. I'm sure your husband was worried about the fence he just spent the past few days putting up :guilty:

Our 4th was great, had a bunch of people over for a BBQ and than did some fireworks. It wasn't too hot here so we were able to spend some time outside which was really nice. It was overcast the entire weekend so didn't really get much of a tan oh well, there is always next weekend :sunny:

Hello everybody. Thanks for the well wishes with the floods up here in PA. I'm in NE Pennsylvania about an hour and half north of Philly. We got a lot of rain, and a lot of towns were evacuated. We ended up being ok (compared to others).

We did go to Costa Maya in March. However, we didn't have a good day there. The lack of sleep and constant activities caught up with our kids. We got off the ship, went to the port, but the kids were not in the mood. Pretty cranky. We ended up going back to the ship and have a quiet day on the ship. It worked out as the kids rested and re-charged their batteries. Everyone on the ship loved the port. I felt cheated that we didn't get to go to the beach as planned. They all loved the beach. Oh well.

I hope everyone had a nice 4th. We went to the Jersey Shore (Ocean City) for a long weekend. We're going to Hershey Park this weekend. Just what we need, more rides. I'm still dizzy.

I was reading that other thread about the Christmas decorations for our cruise. I hope that is true. It would be nice to see all of the decorations. Just another added touch for the week.

Take care everyone.

Hi Jim,
glad to see you are ok and still with us.
Yes the ship will be decorated when we cruise. It is beautiful to see. Most is in the atrium area, although a giant gingerbread house is near the Promenade lounge a few small trees are places near the theater and clubs. The stores are also decorated some. You can make a free gingerbread house too. There will be a tree lighting ceremony on the first evening which is alot of fun. You sing carols, characters arrive and a lucky family will get to help Santa Goofy lite the tree, then snow falls in the atrium!! The entire even takes about 20 minutes, but it is a MUST DO on the ship. CC is also decorated at the dock and the tram looks like a reindeer. The first hour or so of getting off the ship at CC there will be corolers to greet you too. Weather permitting Santa Goofy will zoom around the lagoon area on a jet ski too.
We have doen 4 cruises I believe where it was decortated for the holidays. Now the atrium looks so plain without the decorations. It isnt really, it's beautiful, but I keep remembering it with the decorations.

Have a great Thursday everyone!

When we went in December everything was decorated. I just loved it. I went to the tree lighting ceremony and as Kathy said, it is not to be missed. It is only done on the first night so make sure you go. I also loved the tram in CC dressed up as a reindeer. I have pictures but not on my digital so I can't post them :sad2: sorry.

I miss the Jersey Shore so much. We used to go to Seaside Heights every summer. When I have kids I will make sure we take them there. I have also been to Hershey Park but that was a long time ago. I remember going on the factory tour and getting "cooked" don't know if they still have that attraction there but I loved it. I also remember the crazy ferris wheel and the kissing tower that I was always so scared to go on but did and cried the whole time. My favorite part of the park was that our parents let us get any kind of candy we wanted when we left.

Kathy, do you have any pictures of Minnie yet? I'm dying to see her.

It took about a dozen attempts to get that picture. I got 2 good ones. She was afraid of the camera and kept running away.
She is so timid yet. This morning she decided to sleep on a padded lounge chair on the patio, which was fine, but she was afraid to get down off of it. So DH had to go out and coax her down. She was so funny to see.
She also saw her reflexion in the front window last night and was afraid of herself. Guess we will have to work on that some.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. We will be at home installing doggie doors and doing the pooper scooper duties!!! So much fun

We finally got some rain here last night which we needed very badly!!

Looking forward to hearing from you guys over the weekend to keep us bumped up.
Anyone going to see the new pirate of the caribbean movie this weekend???
My DS is going, but we will wait til next weekend. I hate the big crowds on opening weekends, so will wait aweek. I know it playe dont he ships at 12:01 this morning. that would of been so cool to see it for the first time on the ship. I know it will be playing on our cruise next month so I'm sure we will see it again on the ship. :cloud9:

We are going to see it tomorrow. I hate crowds too but one of the theaters here has private movie booths and I know someone who got us one. We can just show up right before the movie starts and not have to worry about getting a good seat. I would have loved to see the movie on the ship. That would be so cool. Other than see pirates I don't have too many other plans this weekend. I should be able to keep us bumped up.

Kathy, my one dog is the same as Minnie, she is scared of everything. She is 13 and has never grown out of it. It petty funny to have a dog that's a scaredy cat :rotfl2:

Have a great weekend everyone :Pinkbounc

Please NO details, but how was the movie??? :confused3

I won't get to see it for a week or so, theaters around here are all sold out this weekend. So please dont give away anything, just tell me how you liked it!!!!
It is so hard to wait!!! My DS went and saw it late last night, I havnt seen him yet to see how he liked it.

We are hoping to install the doggie doors this weekend and teach Minnie how to use them. We need one in the sliding glass door and one in the screen door on the patio. we have a screen enclosure around our entire patio and pool area, so that is why it will take two doors. One to exit the house to the patio and one to exit the patio to the yard.
It is a quiet weekend around here. I looked at the Magic in port this morning. The port cam was finally pointed the right direction.

have a good day everyone, I will be waiting to hear if you liked the movie.

The movie was good but a little too long. The booth we had was great. It had 8 captians chairs and we got all kinds of food and candy. It was completly private and you could control the sound and temperature so it was perfect. I am spoiled forever.

I think Minnie might be scared of the doggie doors at first. They are usually scared for the noise they make when they walk in and out of them. I guess it's just a matter of her getting used to it.

I checked the port cam yesterday and it wasn't working, it is today so we are going to try to watch the ship leave. Other than that, no too much planned, we might watch some of the soccer and yankee games. I also want to get some time in the sun :sunny:

Hi!! This will be the first Disney cruise for myself and my DS who will be 5.5 then. I had just booked us for the 12/8/07 cruise but rescheduled to 11/24/07 after getting a look at his school schedule for this fall (pre-K) and if it's the same next year in K, the 12/8/07 cruise would conflict with school conferences and a Christmas show. I'm really excited now. It will be so nice to have the days off before that for Thanksgiving and then to have our cruise right after that.

I wish we had the to also combine this with some days in the parks. As it is we'll have to fly in the morning of the cruise. I'm trying to decide whether to fly back the afternoon we dock or to stay over in a hotel that night and fly out the next morning.

Nice to meet everyone!! :)

Your right, Minnie was afraid of the doggie door, but with coaxing, treats and tons of praise she is adjusting to it. We start pushing the flap open a little then coax her on through it. She is getting the hang of it. But the noise of the flap hitting down scares her some. we will work on it all week. When ever she masters that door we will put the second one on the patio door for her. We dont want to stress her too much at first, so one door at a time.
Tomarrow she gets her stitches removed, then she can finally get a bath :Pinkbounc

hope you had a great weekend. :dance3:

Minnie can come in her doggie door, but is still afraid of going out the door. I figured it would take alot longer to get her trained, so hopefully a couple more days she will be comfortable with it, both directions!!

Didnt do much around here over the weekend, went and saw The Lake House.
It was worth seeing once, but not my first pick, too predictable to figure out what was going to happen.
Next weekend, we will try to go to Magic Kingdom on Sunday morning when they first open and will try to do the new version of Pirates of the caribbean ride and check out any new pirate clothing they may have for the party on board the ship, and maybe see Superman movie. Then the next show will be the new Piratres movie. We wanted the crowds to die down some first so we are seeing the others first.

So far we have shared about our pets, what our favorite disney character is and our favorite disney movie and favorite TV how.

Now I have a new question for everyone,
If you work outside the home, or in you home, share what type of job you have??

I will start.
I am retired early for medical reasons, but my last job was being the owner of a pizza place called Fat Roasa pizza. i have also cooked a a few restaurants such as Dennys and been asst manager in an Arbys. Mostly I tried to work at home raising my family. DH had his own construction business for many years in Oregon, but after moving to Florida 6 years ago he went to work for Maronda Homes as a Production Manager.

How about the rest of you guys and gals?? I know we have shared some of this, but we have a few new people to catch up with.

I am an Executive Admin for the VP of Marketing and Advertising for Station Casinos. I did work for the Sr VP of Operations until 2 weeks ago. I was traded to this department because I was being under utilized. I have been a secretary for 13 years, it's what I have always wanted to do, I have thought of changing jobs but I love being a secretary. Before Stations, I worked for Wynn Las Vegas and I was at the Luxor for 5.5 years. My husband owns a pizza place called Martino's Pizza. Hi Deana,
My DD will be celebrating her 6th bday onboard. It would be great to find her some friends so she can spend time with them at the OC.

My DD7 will be very glad there's another girl around her age as she is very social and outgoing.

:welcome: Denise and family!!

Boy our group has really been growing lately. This is great :thumbsup2

First cruise, that is awesome!!
Any questions, just ask, we are a great group here with lots of input to help each other. We have done 11 DCL cruises so far and #12 is next month. So if I can help with any questions, please ask.
We wont have any kid with u son this cruise, but others will have kids near your kids age I'm sure.

Good morning everyone!! :goodvibes
We still have no rain, they say everyday 70% chance of rain, but it never shows at my house. we just had 4 palm trees planted and onei s turning brown already :sad2: . We have been watering it, but not enough I guess. Just dont want a $300 water bill either. Maybe today will be the day for rain, I hope. :confused3
Minnie got her grooming yesterday. She was terrified by a kitten there. Her first encounter with a cat. Hopefully next time she wont be so intimidated by a kitten. :rotfl2:
We have found out she loves watermelon. I thought that was weird, but my DD's lab loves grapes, strawberries and tomatoes too.

well time to get busy around here. Have agood Wednesday everyone,

Welcome Denise and Family. I have a daughter who will be 7 as well on the cruise and a 10 year old daughter. It sounds funny saying that as they are only 5 & 8 now. They still have two birthdays before the cruise. It'll be here before you know it.

As far as job is concerned, my wife stays home with the kids and I have my own financial planning firm.

I hope all is well with everyone.

Take care,
Jim

Welcome Denise and triplets  Wow, I certanly have respect for you. How do you do it? I'm scared to just have one :rotfl: So far there seems to be a lot of kids all around the same age. I think that is great. They should email each other so when they get there they already have friends on the ship.

Kathy that is so funny about Minnie :rotfl2: being scared of a kitten. The must have been one big kitten :tigger:

The weather here has just been crazy. It's should be around 110 today. We had down pours over the weekend. It was like a hurricane (for about a 1/2 hour  ). There are fires about 250 miles away but the whole valley is covered in smoke, you would think they were in Las Vegas. It was pretty hard to breath last night you can smell smoke everywhere.

I have a question for everyone:

When are you planning to get to Florida (except Kathy :) ) before the cruise and when are you leaving after the cruise? We are leaving on Thanksgiving night and should be there early Friday morning. There really aren't too many good flights from here. We have family somewhere by Tampa so we might go down the night before and spend Thanksgiving with them. I think we have plenty of time to decide but I know we need to make hotel reservations ASAP since it is going to be Thanksgiving. We are going to spend Friday in the parks, I really want to ride Everest and my husband will need a RNRC fix. We will leave on a late flight on Saturday night so we will spend the day at the parks when we get off the ship. That should make us nice and tired for the flight home. Of course all of this depends on the airlines not changing their schedules :sad2: .

We're going to be flying in the morning of the cruise and probably coming home the day we dock, although we might stay over that night. I wish we could stay longer but I'll be pulling my DS out of school for the cruise and even though it's only kindergarten I don't want to push it.

Good morning everyone,
Hope you are all having a great day today. Lots of sun here today, wish it was a little more rainy though.
I finished 2 door signs for our 8/5 cruise yesterday. Nothing fancy bu tthey will do. One is about the Pirate party, and the other just some characters and cruising.
Anyone got any plans for the weekend??
I hope to make it to WDW on Sunday to do the revamped Pirates ride at MK.
Hope to meet our oldest son there too. I havnt seen him for a few months, so would love to meet him there. He lives 80 miles from us, so WDW is agood meeting point.
Take care,

Happy Friday everyone!!! :sunny:

We are hot again today. hoping for a couple more showers today. Got a little yesterday.
I was hoping to find a couple of summer blouses for my Aug cruise, but I found ZIP!! You would think that in Florida, in the summer there would be a good selection of summer blouses, but nothing. I guess if I were 16 and wanted to bare my stomach or bust line there would be plenty. But at my age there is too much stomach and not enough bust line to show :rotfl2:

Anyone doing anything excting this weekend???

Time to vacuum, mop, do :laundy:

Please you have no idea what hot is :rotfl2: try living on the sun like I do :sunny: It was 111 on my way home from work yesterday and still 101 at 9pm. It's going to be 112 this weekend needless to say whatever we do will involve the indoors :teeth: I have to say I do not miss NY summers, that humidity is a killer.

I hope Deana is OK. There are two really big fires in SoCal and I know that's where she lives. They think they will become one big fire. Lots of houses have burned. Deana if you get a chance please check in.

I'm so jealous that you can just pop over to WDW

Laura, I thought the same thing. However I am also jealous of you because you could just hop on a plane and get there in 2 1/2 hours. I miss being able to do that. I am at least 4 1/2 hrs away and that is if we could find a non-stop flight.

Have a great weekend everyone, I will try to keep us bumped up :Pinkbounc

I can't decide what's worse, 90s and humidity or 110+ degree weather. I'm just wilting thinking about it. Knock wood it only got into the high 80s today, although with almost 100% humidity. Monday and Tuesday we're expecting mid 90s for highs. Nothing like hot and muggy in the city and going down into the subway where it becomes like the 7th level of hell.

We did make it to the pool today at least, well after I left the uniform store $271 poorer, after ordering my son's uniforms for school in the fall. And this for pre-K. Crazy!!

lvstitch
07-16-2006, 10:54 AM
Wow a uniform in Pre-K. I didn't have to wear one until 1st grade. They can get very expensive.

Yeah, I really hate humidity, there is just no escaping it. It hit 116 yesterday but as long as you stay inside you're OK. When we did go outside, even my eye lids were burning :rotfl2:

Laura, Mets or Yankees Fan? Just wondering. We are die hard Yankee fans but those Mets are doing pretty good this year.

HI,
So far Minnie only sniffs of the edge and watches us in the pool. We wont force her to go, wehope when the grandkids come to visit later this month she may want to jump in with them.
We went and saw THE NEW PIRATE RIDE at MK today. It was very good. Capt Jack Sparrow looks so real it's spooky!!! Then we met our oldest son for a visit, had lunch and then went to see the new Pirates movie with him.
We really enjoyed it, but I dont think I would let a young child to see it, where I would the first one. Now I cant wait til the 3rd one comes out.

Hope everyone had a good weekend,

We're looking at a 98 degree day here. This is not a day to be spent at work, I should be home sipping iced tea, lounging by a pool. OTOH, my uncle who's only 56 had a heart attack yesterday. Turns out he's been having chest pains for weeks and said nothing. And then in yesterday's heat and humidity was out working on his house in the sun all day. He's having an angioplasty today and may need more surgery, but thank god looks like he's going to be fine otherwise.

Sorry Kathy, I don't iron, I just keep my clothes in the dryer until the wrinkles are gone :lmao:

Glad you liked the new ride, we are excited to see it in September. Did you get your names on the ears? I am going to get the same ones from DL although I heard a rumor that they also have pink ones. If that's true I will get my husband the red one but I am getting a pink one. I'll get our names on them.

Very hot here today :sunny: yesterday we stayed in for most of the day. We played Bingo last night and my husband won $100, which is the first time we have ever won. I am practicing for the cruise. The offical temp yesterday was 112 but that was at the airport and it's always hotter elsewhere. I saw one of the bank themometers say 120. It's not to bad if you don't mind it feeling like your skin is melting off.

Good morning,
I didnt get my name on th eears because the red pirate bandana that comes with it would of covered up any name.
When you get yours, try to do it at MK. There is a small hat shop on main street that puts the names on for free. Just about everywhere else they will charge you for it. It isnt much, but you may as well get it for free. I have seen pink, black and gold mickey ears hats. But the pink is usually in the kids sizes only. Gold and black are in adult size. Also white ears with aveil for brides. I will keep an eye out to see if I see any other colors that come in adult and let you know. They change things all the time.
Well we are not as HOT as you, but still toasty here. We had tons of thunder and lightning, but still no rain. Areas around us got rain, but we didnt get any.
We had 4 palms planted in our front yard recently, so i have to keep watering them. We figured this time of the year our daily showers would take care of it. Guess we were wrong this year. Our water bill will be pretty high this month.
I heard a strange noise upstairs a couple of minutes ago, so I snuck up there and found Minnie happily chewing up a magazine. it was in a million pieces all over the loft. She hid behind the recliner, but I still got one swat with the newspaper across her behind. Not hard, but it did scare her. Then after I cleaned it up, she quietly followed me downstairs and cowered by the table looking at me with her ears back, begging forgiveness. So I told her again she had beena bad puppy!! Then I scratched her ears and stroked her chin some so she knows I still love her. Now she is laying at my feet trying to be good. she is just like alittle kid. I thought the look on her face was funny, but I couldnt let her know I wasnt really mad.
well that was my morning so far. Next I am off to the post office and to the pool store. Hope everyone has a great day.

We had some wicked storms last night. Thunder, lightening, 60 mph winds, and tons of rain :confused3 I thought I lived in Vegas not Florida :lmao: The worst part was that my husband had to drive home from work in it. I was a nervous wreck. The funny part was that it wasn't raining for most of his drive home (he only works 6 miles away). I was just glad he got home OK. There was so much lightening, there were 60 tree fires. It was one crazy night.

It was a crappy day at work with an insane paranoid boss who is trying her best to find any faults with my work and home to a crazy four year old who cried and told me I can't go to work anymore but then told me he loves everyone but me when I, gasp, made him go to bed tonight. My uncle is feeling so much better. He actually had a second angioplasty today but now that the blockages are cleared he says he feels like a million dollars comparatively.

That is totally scary with the Princess cruise. But you figure it's like plane crashes, the chance of anything like that happening is so tiny, especially in comparision to getting in your car and all the dangers there. I'm still really looking forward to the cruise. Oh yeah, am I looking forward to it. I wish it was coming sooner. I need a vacation now!! Our cruise will be a 7 day Eastern on DCL and then again on 11/25 we go on the Eastern again. :woohoo: It just worked out that way with vacation times and the time our company could get off work. We have been there a few times before.
We have done all the DCL cruises a few times now. Love them all, but the Eastern is my favorite. I love the extra sea day and all the bargains you get on the islands. Much better deals than on the Western. Nassau has a few good buys too if you look.

Hope everyone is having a good week this week. Tomarrow is Friday already. Time is really flying by here. My DD and her fmaily will be here in 16 days, :cloud9: so I have a lot to do this weekend for guests.

Laura, I had the same kind of boss in my last job so I feel for you. We all said it was like being abused. The more they yell and pick on you the more you want to please them. Have you seen "The Devil Wears Prada?" yeah that was my boss. I was fortunate enough to be able to leave but I will never forget how bad it was. Hang in there, things happen for a reason so put in your time now and good things will come from it :goodvibes Glad your uncle is feeling better.

Hi Christine,
happy to see you are back posting again.
For our company it will be our daughter, marie her Dh and 2 of our grandkids, Ana 15 and Andy 12.
Marie and the kids will stay for amonth, but her husband will only be here for 8 days due to work. DD works for the school district so she has the summer off. we dont see them often, they live in Oregon, so we are looking forward to it and a month will fly by. we are all doing a 7 day disney cruise on 8/5 after that we will be going to the parks, WDW, Universal and maybe sea world. We never know for sure where we will go accept for WDW, that is a for sure thing. The grandkids love to hang out around the pool all day too, plus watch movies. So they keep themselves entertained pretty good. My DD is great at helping around the house too.
We have a 6 bedroom, 4 1/2 bath house and it's just us most of the time, so plenty of room for everyone. we have an extra TV, a big screen in the loft upstairs so the kids can watch a movie there while the adults watch something else on the TV in the family room, if they want.
well no rain again today.

Laura,
I wish you could use some pixiedust: and send us some of your rain.
Lots of Florida has been getting rain, but not a drop where I live. Just lots of :sunny: all day.
we are going to give Minnie a bath today. That will be a struggle!! We may take her to Petco and use their tubs so we dont have to clean up our bathroom. I think it was $10 to use their facilities, which is worth it to me, to not have to clean up a mess at our house. :thumbsup2
going to buy a large pool deck box for pool storage today too. We need something to put pool toys in , plus the child safety fence when we take it down. since our pool is now screened off, with locking doors and a 6 foot high wooden fence with a gate NO child can open I feel safe in taking down the safety fence. I always worry a child may fall in, so I am happy it is now secure.
That is all we are really doing this weekend. Anybody got any plans??? :confused3

Kathy sounds like you are going to have a great time with your family. I hope you are planning to do a very long and detailed trip report with lots of pictures. I want to hear about every single thing you do. It will get me that much more excited about our trip.

I was just talking to my husband about how much this trip is going to cost us and it looks like we are going to really have to cut out all the fun stuff we normally do :guilty: for the next year, even Disneyland :earseek: . I know it will be worth it but it's going to be hard. I will be on these boards a lot since I won't be doing much else .

Laura, sounds like you're having a typical summer in NY. All of our family still lives in Long Island and they have been telling us what a crazy summer it's been weather wise. I know we shouldn't complain, it could be alot worse. I was talking to a friend out in CA and she was telling me how she had to attend an outdoor wedding on Saturday and it was 112 and then for the indoor reception the AC didn't work. Crazy thunderstorms are definitely doable compared to that, lol.

Kathy you must be getting so excited for your family to get there. I wonder how Minnie will be with all those extra people in the house. Will she be going to the puppy spa (aka kennel) when you go on your cruise?

It is really hot here today, it was 102 at 9am. It's only going to get worse. This is when the weather out here really gets to you. It's so funny because there is nobody on the roads or in any of the parks. Everyone is either at home with central A/C or in a casino. The only time in the summer you see people in the parks is at Midnight when it has cooled down a little.

I finally thought of a question for everyone:

What books are you currently reading and who is your favorite author? I am reading Jackie Collins' Lovers and Players. She is my favoirte author, I have read every one of her books. When I read I love to escape reality and her books are not even close to any reality I know :rotfl:

My son is staying at our house whne we cruise so he will take care of Minnie of rus. We didnt feel comfortable leaving her at a kennel or dog sitter or doggie motel because she is just now starting to trust us and adjust to the routine here. Peter does work full time at WDW but will be here the rest of the time. So she will have someone she knows.

My grandkids love dogs, they have a Lab who was also abused and starved so they are good with dogs too. i think Minnie will be in heaven with all the extra attention she will get.

Now for the question,
That is easy, I havnt read a book since I had kids other than kiddie books!! I never had the time, andnow I am out of the habit of reading.
i think the last ones I read was 35 years ago and that was the Twilight Zone by Rod Serling. WOW, that really dates me doesnt it!!

:wave2: Hi everyone. I cannot believe how long it has been since I've posted. Here's a recap. . . Went to Vegas for dance competition. Fun, but long and very hot. :sunny: Then we got back and had four days of dance recital. Finally a break. The fires have been burning in different areas for several weeks now. The closest was about 15 miles from here, so not threat but lots of ash. Kathy, I love Minnie -- she is so cute.

I don't know what questions I've missed, but I am an avid reader and am currently in the middle of two sets of Nora Roberts trilogies. My daughter Lindsey is a read-a-holic at 7 years old. You have to make her stop reading.

Have a great day everyone!!

I am so glad to hear from you. I was worried about you and all the fires we have been hearing about. I knew you lived close to them. I am glad to hear you are all ok. :thumbsup2
You were the 200th post, so we are really moving right along here. We will probably have 3 or 4 thousand posts by our cruise!!!! I will be curious to see how many we wind up with!! :confused3

Well I have bumped us up, so guess I will sign off for now.
I like to keep us within the first 2 pages so others may see us and join in. I know others must have this cruise booked too. :woohoo:

It would be funny if we reach 2000 posts with only the few of us that are here right now. I have looked at other posts that are cruising around the same time as us and some of them only have 100 posts, so I guess we are doing pretty good :cool1:

Welcome back Deana, we were getting a little worried. Glad everything is OK. I can't even imagine how smoky it is there with the fires only being 15 miles away. It's pretty bad here and they are 300 miles away. The other night it was so hard to breath because of how bad it was.

That's great that your 7 year old reads so much. When I was that age you would think I was allergic to books :rotfl2: I hated reading.

Kathy, wow that's hot! The weather has been so crazy this summer. Still no rain?

Kathy do you know how busy WDW is on Thanksgiving? I have gotten several different stories. I have read that is it one of the busiest days of the year but someone has told me they were there on Thanksgiving and the parks were dead. I was thinking of leaving on Wed night instead of Thursday to get one extra day in but if the parks are crazy I may not.

Howdy,
Thanksgiving is SUPER busy!!!
The week before Thanksgiving isnt bad, because most people are waiitng and going over Thanksgiving.
Magic Kingdom usually maxes out by noon, whch means it is at capacity and they will NOT let anybody else in, until a few hundred people have left. The lines are 2 hours to get on a ride!!!
I dont know who told you the parks were dead on Thanksgiving, but we have been here 6 years and our son works at WDW, please believe me it will be maxed out!!! We avoid WDW over the holidays!!
If you should go, please arrive at the parks a few minutes before they open or you wont get on hardly anything. Plus use fast passes to help with the lines, of course everyone else will be doing the same thing.

I love to read, but I wish I had more of a chance to. The only time I usually get is on the train back and forth to work and then I usually fall asleep. Right now I'm re-reading Howards End.

I'm really excited, I just booked the 4 day Bahamas cruise on 2/18/07. It's President's week and my son will be off school that week. I figure it will be a little taste of cruising before the 11/24 cruise. :)

February is a great month to cruise. The weather is awesome and it's not real crowded. :woohoo: At Nassau there is a great pirate museum if your child like that sort of thing. $12 per person and allow about an hour. It is an easy walk from the ship too.
That is great news,

Happy Friday everyone!!!! :goodvibes

Well today I need to buy a few fresh grocery products. My daughter and family arrive tomarrow evening. ;) I am excited to see them. I know my grandkids will be a lot bigger than last year when I saw them. Ana just turned 15, so she will really look different. I understand she now is doing light makeup and has dyed her hair black?? That will be a different look for her.

Andy is 12 and is of course into video games and playing the tuba. Thank goodness he cant bring the tuba with him. I remember our kids practicing instruments, OUCH!!!! :rolleyes1
I know our dog will love having someone else to play with, however after one week, we will be going on our cruise, so then she will be extra lonesome for the week. I am so glad our son will be here to be with her. She is just getting adjusted to us and her home, I know this will throw it all off for awhile.

well that's about all for now, :yay:

Laura, I heard you had some pretty bad storms last night. My brother was attempting to fly back to Las Vegas last night and they pretty much grounded all the flights out of JFK because of lightening.

Kathy, thanks for the info about WDW. I thought they were wrong when they told me it was dead during Thanksgiving. They must have been talking about the week after, which I know is dead. If we go, we won't really plan on doing too much. Maybe just dinner and a ride or two. Do you think it would be better to go to Epcot or is it just as crowded? Maybe we will go to Universal

Don't really have any plans this weekend, the weather is supposed to be crazy so we'll see if we even leave the house. Have a great weekend everyone

Laura, I heard you had some pretty bad storms last night. My brother was attempting to fly back to Las Vegas last night and they pretty much grounded all the flights out of JFK because of lightening.

Oh yeah. It was so strange at first, lots of lightning before the rain even started. A real spectacle in the sky. And we're expecting more drenching rain tonight. Knock wood it's supposed to clear up tomorrow but then we're expecting a stretch of really hot temps for the next 5 days or so.

If you're going to one of the parks on Thanksgiving, I'm guessing Epcot would be your best bet, but I would be booking that ADR at exactly 180 days out. We'll be coming in on Friday. We can't miss Thanksgiving with the family. I would love to stay a little longer after the cruise and do the parks, but doubt I'll keep my son out of school any longer. Too bad though. Everything all decorated for Christmas and the weather so nice. We're going to be going down 11/30 this year just for that reason. Oh, and my birthday will fall during the trip, but that's just a bonus. :)

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Universal will be maxed out too.

If you go Epcot is always the least crowded of the parks. It is more spread out so it is easier to Navigate when it is busy. Just do one of the 3 main rides there and then use fast pases for the other two. You can do lots of other stuff while your waiting for the fast passes to be at the right time.

MK is always the busiest park.
Downtown disney is nice when the parks get too crowded too. You can shop, eat or see a movie there.
Also by Blizzard beach there is the Winter, Summer Wonderland miniature golf courses. They are fun and open late at night. Both courses are set up for Christmas all year long. They arnt usually crowded either. the Fantasia golf course by the Swan and Dolphin resorts is always busy and the courses are dull compared to the other ones.
It's just a thought for a less crowded way to do something, even late at night.

The grandkids still dont know about the cruise. :rotfl:
It will be so hard NOT to say anything all week while they are here.
Once we pull into the port and the surprise is over we are going to tell them, Yes we are going on a 3 day cruise, we thought you'd like to see Nassau, since you have never been there. Then we will see how long it takes for them to figure out we are really doing the 7 day Eastern with them!! :rotfl2:

After this trip they wont believe anything we tell them!!! :rolleyes1

well time to do a few last minute things before DD arrives this evening.

We had a great time at Mk today. It was hot, but not unbearable like it had been. We all had a great time and the lines were very short. Which was surprising for MK and at pe4ak season. We were there when it first opened, so that helped.
Hi Everyone,
We never know what color our daughters hair will be when she comes to visit. It has been red, brown blonde, black and last time she came for a cruise it was HOT PINK!!! She had put a pruple streak in it and when she showered it ran through her hair and turned it hot pink!! I would of wore a wig or cut it off, but she was fine with it.
This year she showed up with bright purple hair!! No I am not kidding!!
She is such a character. Nothing seems to embarass her. So everyone will know who we are from the dis board for our upcoming cruise because I am going to tell them to look for the lady with the purple hair, I am with her. :rotfl2:
It is always an adventure with that girl. Yes she is married a mom of two and in her 30's and isnt a party girl, she just likes weird hair colors. They come in handy with her job. She works with special needs kids at school and they love the bright colors. At least purpleis Disney colors.

I will keep you informed on how it goes.

Good Morning.

Thanks for all the advise on Thankgiving. I will have to try to figure something out. If my husband's uncle is in Tampa on Thanksgiving we may just spend the day with him if not, we will just take it easy, maybe to go the Boardwalk and Epcot. Sometimes I like being forced to just enjoy the parks and not the rides. I have been to the mini-golf courses and we loved them. The good thing is I have enough time to plan everything I want to do ;)

Kathy, your daughter sounds pretty cool. I would love the have crazy color hair like that. Good for her, I bet her kids love it.

OK, back to work. Talk to you guys later.

And in my continuing Disney mania, I just spur of the moment booked a trip at the end of August. I got a little unexpected time off from work and decided to jump on it. I booked ASMo and my son should be in heaven since he's currently in a Toy Story craze. Just hoping not to wilt from the heat, although we're expecting to push 100 the next few days with high humidity, so what's the difference? At least we'd be at WDW. :teeth:

Laura,
what days are you coming to WDW. After our cruise next week, we will be at WDW on several of the weekends with our company. They leave the end of the month.
If we were there at the same time as you maybe we could meet for just a minute somewhere. I have done this before. Just need to know what park you will be in on what day. Then if we were doing the same we could pick a spot and time to have a 5 minute meet, then back to vacation.
But I do understand you may not know ahead of time which park you are headed to on a certain day. Let me know before you go, if you know where you will be and I'll check our schedule. We have done MK already, but still need the other 3 parks.
Be prepared for lots of heat when you come, we are extra humid and hot this year. No showers to cool it off in the afternoon.
well people are starting to get up so I need to get busy. got to go to the bank too, suppose to be 105 with the humidity today, so need to go this morning.

If tropical storm Chris turns into hurricane Chris and arrive this weekend it could be tricky for us to get on our cruise :sad2:

I dont mind if we have to change islands on the cruise, just so long as we can go on the cruise.

I know it's a few days away, but on the news tonight their projections show it hitting the southern part of Florida from Friday night through the weekend.
Of course that could change and come up through Florida or miss us all together. :confused3

Laura,
If you decide before you leave where your going to be on saturday, let me know and we will arrange a place and time in that park to meet for 5 minutes, just to say Howdy. I DON'T want to interfere with your vacation time. At WDW every minute counts!!!
Or if you have a cell phone I could PM you our phone number and you could call and let me know what park you will be at on saturday and then we could decide on a meet.
Just an idea to think about. :confused3 We still have plenty of time. :)

Everyone accept me and DH are sleeping in today. They played in the pool until very late. Minnie is even taking a nap. She is getting all tuckered out running from one person to the next all day long, plus she wont go to bed until everyone is in bed. She is use to us going to bed early and getting up early, 5 a.m. due to work. So staying up til midnight and getting up with is at 5 has pooped her out!!!
I think she will need all next week while we are gone to get rested up!! :rotfl2:

It looks like the storm may hit after we leave on the ship. That is good, but if it's still approaching us I dont know which way the ship will go. We are suppose to be heading to st. Had a great weekend, busy but fun. It was my friends daughters Sweet 16 weekend. We went to Caesars Mall and had dinner at the Bellagio on Saturday. They stayed at Mandalay Bay on Saturday. Sunday we spent the day at the pool at MB and Sunday night we had dinner in one of MB's fancy restaurants in a private dinning room followed by cake in their suite. It was some party, almost good enough to put on MTV :) Everyone had a great time and there did seem to be too much teenage drama.

I think our name should be something about "leftovers" since we will not have time to have any leftover Turkey. I'm not all that creative but that's a start.

The pool is great just way to crowded. People start lining up at 7am to get a good seat for when the pool opens at 8am. I think that is just to much work if you are on vacation. If you get to the pool at 10am forget about getting a chair, you'll have to leave your stuff on the ground it's that bad. We did have a cabana which made it much easier. And yes we were one of the crazy people there at 7am

I have a really busy weekend. My whole family is flying in (that should be fun) from NY for my Mom's 60th Birthday. They will be here for 10 days. My sister and I have been making plans to keep all 11 of us busy the whole time. We already gave our Mom her gift (Trip to Hawaii with us in Nov) so we are going to give her a surprise pool party at my pool next Sunday. We still wanted to surprise her with something  Don't know if I will get a chance to bump us up over the weekend but I will try.

I might go see World Trade Center this weekend too. Don't know how I am going to get through it but I feel like I have to see it. My sister and brother went on Wednesday night and said it was really sad but really good. I'll tell you guys about it (if you want to know) on Monday. All I know is I am bringing a box of tissues.

Hi everyone,
I will post a complete report on the cruise reports thread next week and I will let you know when I do it, but for now I will give you a few highlights of our cruise.
I wont give all the details because I dont want to spoil any surprises for any first time cruisers.

First off I met lots of dis board people jus tlike you guys. It was so much fun and we saw them over and over again during the week. We always stopped and chatted about what we had been doing.
We did manage to surprise our grandkids. DH told them we were going to see if they would let us pull into the port to take pictures of the ship. They thought we were on our way to the beach.Ana (15) was wondering what was going on since they asked for our ID;s and then they asked if we were all goin gon the Magic and he said yes. Ana turned to her mom and whispered, grandpa is going to get in BIG trouble because he just lied to that man about taking pictures of the ship. She didint catch on, neither did Andy(12).
Then we pulled up to unload the luggage.
As I got out of the truck, Ana said what are we doing???
I turned to her and said, well I dont know about you, you may go to the beach, but the rest of us are going on a cruise!!!
She and andy just stood there mumbling as we unloaded the suitcases in disbelief!! it was so funny to see.
Then Ana, being a teen said, I dont have any clothes to wear!! I only have old shorts and tank tops. Her mom reassured her she had packed lots of nice clothes for her, even a formal dress and shoes.
Anyway as we made our way to the terminal Greg told them it was a 4 day cruise. They were very excited to go to Nassau, where they had never been.
About a hour later in the terminal they realised it was a 7 day cruise, not 4!!
After that they didnt believe anything we said. :rotfl2:
All the dis board people knew it was a surprise, so as we met they all knew them about it. Ana said the enitre ship knew they were coming, accept for them. They couldnt believe we could keep a secret that long.

we met lots of dis people in the terminal. I told them look for the lady with the purple hair, I will be close by because she is my DD. So we were easy to spot.
we boarded quickly and off to lunch, then got our dinner seating changed to early. Then went to the room, luggage arrived around 2:30 so I was all unpacked by our 3 p.m. dis board meeting in the Promenade lounge.
The meet was a huge success, so many nice people.

great weather for sail away party, new band called the Breakers played. I recognised 2 members as part of the old Charles Marshal band. They were very good. It was a lively crowd so a great party.
I was disappointed that they did the countdown at 4:50 and no streamers as in past parties. we pulled away about 5:15.
I was on deck 10 with my Mickey hands on waving at everyone for the entire length of the channel.

dinner was a bit confusing the first night. we got our time changed perfect but when we arrived at Lumieres they said we were suppose to be at AP so they escorted us there, but once there they told us, NO you should b ein Lumieres, so they escorted us back again and then we had to stand in the middle of the restaurant til they figured things out. We thought it was funny.
Finally they found us a table, but by then people were eating the main course. They did a great job at catching us up. But then the next day they told us to come at 5:45 to Lumieres again for dinner. We did and they seated us at table 12 and then here came some people who were suppose to be seated there. The immediatley sat them behind us and changed the numbers on the tables. I guess they didnt want for us to have to change again. We thought it was funny.
I guess the original people who switched to late decided to eat early the first night, that was why the confusion.

We went to the welcome aboard show which was very good.
then to shutters to buy our boarding picture. We then browsed shops and visited with dis board people. We turned in early since we had been on the go since 5 a.m.
Our family went to the 60's party and got in around 3 a.m.
They said it was very good.

Day 4 St. Maartin
we were the only ship in town so the vendors bugged you to death, but it was really nice there. we just walked around the beach area and shopped.
DD had told her kids we were all going to the butterfly farm. Great fun for a 12 and 15 year old. :rotfl2: They were pleasantly surprised to find they were really doing the Regatta sailing excursion where you learn to man the ship and sail her yourslef. They raced against another ship. Both ships had been in the americas cup race. DD's boat lost the race, but it was kinds funny that the captains name was captain Morgan just like the pirate. They loved it and said they would highly recommend it to anyone, but warned you that it is very physical.
This is pirate night so we wore our outfits to dinner and afterwards we went to have our pictures taken with captain Jack Sparrow. They are awesome pictures and I will post them later. A highlight on the trip!!!!
Only on epicture per family and arrive 20 minutes early or you may not get to do it, very crowded.
Visited with more disers then GD's had her picture with Peter Pan.
Pirates party was awesome. A young girl, Christina was giving everyone Pirate booty, she was a diser too. Lots of people were there. Made some changes in the party, good improvements.
Fireworks were awesome, buffet and then bed.

Welcome back. Glad you had a great time and I love the pictures so far...need more :rotfl:

Family got in safe, wow there are a lot of us. It's not really that easy to do too much with so many people, we went to a local buffet and then up to the strip but didn't stay too long. My sister had a BBQ at her house last night which was nice.

I did see World Trade Center. It was a really good movie, which sounds weird but you didn't see the planes hit the buildings and you didn't see the buildings fall. It was just about these two policemen who were trapped and trying to stay alive and their families. I really wanted to see it because in Vegas all you heard about were the bad stories. They never really talked about the surviors so I was glad to see something happy that came out of Sept 11th. I did cry during most of the movie and I don't think I will ever watch it again :sad2:

Glad to hear you liked the movie.
I wont go and see it, because i am an extra emotional person, even with a happy ending It would be very upsetting to me since it is a true story.
If it was a made up story I would go.
Taking the grandkids to a movie this afternoon. It is there pick, but that movie wasnt in the choices their mom gave them, so I wont have to worry about it.
I am pretty much settled back to my routine.
we will be going to WDW this weekend with grandkids, may spend the night there so less tiring.
I am waiting for my son or DH to show me how to scan pictures and load onto the computer so I can post the rest of my pictures I wanted to share with you guys. I havnt learned that yet.
With their schedules it will probably take all week to corner one of them.
I did change our name on the front page yesterday, take a look, see what you think???
time to go, lots to do today,

Kathy
