Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we're a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. Some of us are training for the 2006 Disneyland Half and for the 2007 WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news/training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Happy Mother's Day! :hippie:
I did 4 miles today at a 13:14 pace. I've decided I'm too anal retentive to just go out and run without a training schedule, so I've devised a plan. I like running for distance rather than time so I'm going to start with 2 SR of 3 miles each then have my LR as 4 miles. I'll try to work up to 4,4,5 while increasing my running intervals. I'd like to be up to R4/W1 or better by the time I need to start training for the half.
Paul...how's the knee?
jodi...congrats on your 5K! :cheer2: Excellent pace!
Colleen...congrats on your spontaneous half! Vancouver's definitely on my list of places I'd love to visit
Terri...let us know how you like your Loco shoes. I keep looking at them, but haven't bought any yet. I'm hoping for one of those races in my area where they give away a free pair of shoes.
MelR...what's next on your schedule?
Craig...where are ya, dude?
Dena...I think the Walmart workout definitely qualifies as cross-training...especially the day after Thanksgiving ;)
Scott...great pace! Looks like you're all set for the Peachtree!
Cam...thanks for the input on the food court at POFQ. Loved your race report!
Oh...and DD13 has the bug now! I'll be mailing her half registration tomorrow. She'll just make the cut...her 14th birthday is Dec 28! She feels that if she starts now, she'll either win it all or place well in her age group in a couple years! That means we'll have to start staying over Sunday night to attend the awards ceremony :thumbsup2
This looks like a cool 5K for anyone in Lowell, MA next month:

Kristi- You should have said something! That most likely was me as I had that bag for dry/wet clothes and my friend that was doing her first half mary drove so it was her red/maroon olds w/ NY plates.
Big Lake Half Marathon report- rain, rain, rain. Cold rain, teeth chattering waiting for the bus post-race rain. Otherwise it was a great race. We did a 2:10:34 which is an awesome first half mary time for Maureen and felt really easy for me. HR was low and so was RPE all day. Probably could have run sub 2 hours if I had pushed it but that wasn't what today was about. Course was hilly w/ the longest section starting up a bit before mile 4 and topping out a bit after mile 6. Wish we could have seen something other than clouds/rain at the scenic view spots to make the climb worth it. Then after the turn around there were some short steeper hills. The downhills were kind of nasty w/ the dirt from the run off from the rain in this section. There were themes to the aid stations w/ water, gatorade, and carb-boom gel. Lots of musicians out providing entertainment staying as dry as they could. Overall, a really well run race. The most disappointing thing was that I was too cold to try some of the homemade Jordan ice cream post race :teeth:
Jodi- great job on your 5K
Colleen- isn't Vancouver awesome? I love Stanley Park and the aquarium and totems there. Nice pace for your half mary too!
Mel/Chimera- nice pace for your 4 miler. Remember to build 'recovery' weeks in there too. My mom will tell you to be careful that you're going to create a monster. Next thing you know she'll be going Goofy.
Looks like lots of people have had some good training runs this weekend and here's hoping that everyone else does too.

Mel -- I am so glad your DD is going to do the half! I hope she exploited her bragging rights this week! :teeth:
Jodi -- Congrats on your great finish time! Great pix! You are as adorable as I'd pictured! So, that is what another WW lifetimer looks like! I'll keep looking at yours and Sunny's pix for inspiration! :cool1:

Just wanted to check in to wish all moms a very, very happy Mother's day.
Nothing new to report as I have been off for a few days due to a bit of a health scare that I do not wish to go into until all is confirmed. Good training and PD to all dealing with injuries.

Good morning and Happy Mother's Day!
Jodi - Great time on your 5K!
Mike - Hope everything's okay.
DH and I (and dog) went for a 2 mile walk this morning. (I actually jogged a little to see how the shins felt.) The pace wasn't great - the dog definitely slows things down - geese, squirrels, WAY too much wildlife on the trail! I felt pretty good, but I'm icing (thanks, Dave!) now just to be safe.

SHOOT! I just knew that had to be you! I was sitting in our minivan with NH plates "OFF2WDW" while Chad ran into the school to change. And the car I saw did have NY plates. I even ended up behind you guys leaving the school! The only thing that made me doubt it a bit was the NY license plates.
Chad finished just after you also. He was somewhere around 2:15.

Licensing cars in ME=expensive. Also the Gecko told me that my insurance would go up too.(I really am insured through Geico-decent military rates) So we both drive cars w/ NY license plates as I'm from the Syracuse area and she's from the Rochester area(Henrietta I think Dave). Time spent in various states last year: ME>TX>FL>NY. I even voted in ME but am still technically a NY resident. This year will be ME=NY>FL because I'll be back in NY to start clinicals in July.
Congrats to Chad on a good run.
PD for Sunny and Mike. Get better soon. :wizard:
Happy Mother's Day!
Today's workout- 35.59 mile ride in 20-30 mph winds and rain from mile 7 on. Arggh! I can't wait until I'm in FL again in 5 days- I just hope I don't melt while racing.

After giving myself 6 days off since the Minnie - I did 2 miles today via Leslie Sansone. I don't know if taking almost a week off was good or bad - but it helped me get alot done around the house. This working out thing eats up alot of my time! ;)
I also think part of my "time off" is being downright depressed about Weight Watchers. I went Weds night and was up 1.4 lbs. After doing the Minnie even. I have been at a plateau with WW for 10 months! I started this whole exercise-and-do-the-Minnie-15k thing to break the plateau - and it didn't happen. I am just at a loss of what to do. I am so happy to be at the weight I am at - but I am still about 8 lbs. above where WW wants me to be. I am seriously considering asking my doctor to write me a note saying I am at a healthy weight for me (who knows if he'll do it though). I am so sick of paying WW and nothing happening. Nevermind weighing every morsel and writing every single thing I put in my mouth down. But I do know, if I stop going, I will end up gaining again. So, I will keep going & paying. It's just getting pretty darn depressing. I will call my doctor Monday and ask for a new round of thyroid tests just to be sure that isn't the culprit. With any luck, I'll be able to up my levoxyl and start losing again. Then again, my thyroid being off again, is not really a good thing is it? ;)
Sorry for the vent - I feel much better now!

I feel like it has been forever since I have posted. I think my last post was my 5K report. I haven't ran since. My life the last 3 weeks has been unbelievably crazy.
We decided to go camping this weekend for Mothers Day and it rained the whole time and the highs were maybe 50, but no higher. The nights were wet and cold. I so wanted to run the campground, but no luck on that. Now I am hoping to start back tomorrow. Please send me pixie dust so I can find time and motivation!!!
Now I have to back track and catch up on everything...

Well my mileage for the past week was extremely pathetic! I think the week before was 22 miles in the week thanks to taking the dog to park almost every day plus 1 long walk.
This past week I think I managed to get 1 day of a 3 miler in the rest were all 1 mile or less thanks to the rain and flooding at the park. Tonight we tried again to get in 3 miles with the dog (corgi, she is doing well with 3 to 3.5). But we had to turn around when we started to hear thunder and knew that we shouldn't go to the turn around or we'd have been waterlogged.
There was some good tonight, I ran farther. There is a section that I've been running and each time I add a bit more and tonight I did pretty good and did another on the return. So I'm learning to have faith in myself that I can run.
Xterrati congrats on the race!!!! :cheer2: Yuck on the rain!
Jackie, we totally understand on the squirrels. Ours does ok on lone walks sometimes stopping and putting enough into holding her stance that she brings us to a standstill but it seems only with squirrels and typically in the same places. We try for once a week that my racing/training partner and her DH join us with their 2 dogs. Those days are REALLY slow. But those are the Dog Days of training ;) We get 3 miles regardless, the dogs get to sniff everything at their pace and the DHs ramble along behind talking. And everyone is happy :thumbsup2
I hope everyone else is having better weather :umbrella:

Mel - Great pace on your run! I like your training plan, too. I'm going to start shorter mileage and try to increase running intervals, too. Keep up the great work! And YEA for your DD - she'll be awesome at the half!!! :cool1:
Lynne - Great job on the race! Can you bring some of that rain when you come to FL??? ;) Good luck this weekend on the HalfIM!!! I can't wait to hear all about it! I'll post more about the Danskin at the end of the post, but thanks so much for all of your advice and inspiration - I think I am hooked on tris! :goodvibes
GoofyGuy - :wizard: for a good health report!!!!
Jackie - Great job on your walk! I can't imagine taking my dog on a walk with all that wildlife! Although, I think it would be a great upper body workout to try to hold him back from chasing everything! :rotfl2:
Kristi - Great job on your workout! :grouphug: for the plateau - it is soooo frustrating! I hope your doctor can help you figure it out. Maybe your ideal body weight is where you are right now. How do you feel? Feel free to vent here anytime. Oh - and good for you getting the housework done... my hubby probably wishes I would do the same thing... :lmao:
Jen - :wizard: :wizard: for lots of motivation!!! And congrats on your race!!! You can do it!
Diane - Good job on increasing your run! You are doing great! :cheer2:
I can now say...
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I AM A TRIATHLETE! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
The Danskin Tri was sooooo awesome! Everyone was so encouraging and Sally Edwards is just an amazing woman. She got us so pumped up in the pre-race sessions. She talked alot about getting the "monkeys" off our backs - the self-doubt, fear, etc. Plus, she joined each wave in the water before we went to give another pep-talk. For so many of these women, it really wasn't about the finish time - it was about finding inner strength, doing what you thought was impossible, and believing in yourself. My personal goal was to 1. finish and 2. finish in 1:30. I crossed the line at 1:29 (and that included a horrible 1st transition.) Yea!!! I'm already looking for other sprint tris this summer - preferably women's tris. :goodvibes
We were also celebrating DS's 3rd birthday. It was a great weekend - there were magical moments around every turn. Here's a quick story... When I got home from the Minnie, I discovered my keychain ring was broken (in the package still). So, Friday afternoon we went to WWoS store to see if they had any more. The manager ran over to the main building where they were boxed up to find another one. While we waited, another worker started playing football with DS in the store. When we told him it was his bday, he ran around the counter and came out with a HUGE medal (from 2002) and presented it to DS as his special bday medal. :lovestruc We played football some more, then the other worker said "Hey! There's someone on the phone for DS." It was Goofy wishing him a happy birthday. WOW!!! :cloud9: This was just one of so many special moments - I love DISNEY!!!!!
Hope everyone has a great day - happy training!!!

Lynnda: WOW! :cheer2: Wonderful job with the tri! I'm sooo impressed....that is really amazing. Someday maybe I'd like to go for that...I've got to get this running thing down first LOL! I'm so proud of you :).
Mel: Great pace!!!
Lynn: Wonderful effort on the half in the rain!!! Sounds like you guys had a a great pace going! I find that I run better in the rain for some reason? LOL!
Kristi: :grouphug: I think you should talk with your doctor. It sounds like you feel good, you are certainly healthy and exercising...so worrying about those extra lbs might not even be worth it! Hang in there...But I do think you sound like you are in a GREAT place right now!!!!
Jen: It seems we ALWAYS end up camping in the rain LOL! I don't know what it's like to camp when it's nice out ;) . I hope you had a great time despite the weather!!!
Diane: Sounds like you've been putting in the miles!!! Wow!!! I know this week wasn't where you wanted it but overall sounds like you're doing fabulous!
Mike: :grouphug: Hope all is well with you! Please check in when you get a chance, we're all a bit worried about you now.
The good news....I ordered my Garmin 301 from R.E.I. They had a good promotion and I couldn't beat the $149.99 price tag. A friend loaned me his Garmin to use this week and I got to try it out on road and trail with no problems at all. So that is my good news.
The bad(ish) news....I woke up in the middle of the night on Saturday with horrible pains in my stomach. Ended up with either a quick stomach bug or possibly food poisoning?! Either way...wasn't feeling great all night! I was so darn mad b/c my Mother's Day gift to myself was a 6 mile road/trail run trying out the Garmin. I was sure that would be curtailed after the night's events. I slept in late on Sunday and drug myself out of bed. Hydrated a bid and ate a bagel...since all seemed ok I set out for my 6 mile run with the intention of stopping and walking home if I felt awful. I actually felt okay....but my energy levels dropped drastically after 4 miles and the last two miles were a test of my will power to get home LOL. I did 5:1 run:walk intervals and managed a 10:39 mpm avg. I was really hoping to break 60 minutes but that was asking too much after the night before so I'm just happy I finished. And I'm really psyched that the Garmin worked....even on the tree covered trail which accounted for about half the run!
Garmin question :confused3 .....how do I set it to record mile splits? I only got an avg. mpm and couldn't find the mile splits? I figure I need to set it but without the manual I'm at a loss. TIA!!!!

Lynnda --- Congrats! You truly are a tri  :cheer2: :thumbsup2 :woohoo: That is so awsome! I'm glad it was such a positive experience for you.
Lynn- my hats off to you for braving this rain. Great job!
Licensing cars in ME is expensive? You should try MASS! Its costing us $2,400 to put DD on for her first year. And that only includes her as a driver on her own junk car. The cost of having her on all three of our cars was astronomical.
Lahey Clinic just called to confirm the pneumonia from the x-rays and tell me its quite bad. She said I will most likely be out of commision for a couple of weeks. Well that is totally unacceptable so I hope she is quite wrong.
Sunny
MelRhoads
05-15-2006, 09:49 AM
Sunny - I'm so sorry to hear about your x/ray! I do hope you are able to get some rest.
Amy Beth - Re your garmin question, you set the auto lap function to work every mile, or you can push the lap button at every mile marker. I really like the auto lap better, b/c then i don't have to remember. I can't remember exactly how to do it, but if you push the menu button, it should be pretty easy to find.
Lynnda - CONGRATS Triathlete!!! Great job on finishing your race!
Mike - Hope you get a good report soon.

Greetings all on this grey Monday morning. :goodvibes
I'm struggling with my training schedule. Friday morning I was tooooo tired to get up at 4:30 so I slept in and traded my rest day on Sat with Fri. Which was fine. But then on Sunday, which should be my LW day...well, it was raining and DH wanted to sleep in.....so I didn't get up early thinking I could do it later. Wrong! We got busy then we took MIL out then it got late and well, it just didn't happen. I've been missing my LWs a lot lately. :rolleyes2 I guess I just HAVE to get up and just get going!
Having said all that, Saturdays and this mornings training went really well. :thumbsup2 I'm very happy with the little bit of running I have added onto the end. Except for one thing......running, well.....makes my butt jiggle. Go ahead, laugh, but I can tell exactly where the big bunch of fat is on my behind. I can feel it when I run. I need to turn that blubber into muscle. What about if I up the incline on the TM? Does that work the butt muscles? (I'm assuming I HAVE muscles under all that flab!)
Sunny - Oh my goodness! I hope you are feeling better. :wizard: Thank goodness you found out what was going on and now you can take care of it.
Mel - Wow, that's cool about DD doing the Half. You tell her "Way to go, girl!!" from us. :cheer2:
Xterritri - Rain rain go away! Congratulations! :thumbsup2 See? even under those conditions you still did awesome!
Mike - :wizard: that everything is OK. We are thinking of you....
Jackie - Ohhh, hope the shins are better now. Dogs are no help! paw: This is about exercise, puppy, not a nature walk! :teeth:
Kristi - I hear you about the WW struggle. I am really at wit's end with it right now. :guilty:
Lynnda - Go go, girl! :cheer2: You ARE a tri-athlete! And how cute about Goofy calling DS! I love Disney.... :goodvibes
Amy - Ohhh, sorry about the stomach thing. Hope you feel better today. :flower3:
I probably missed his post but where is Dave?? :confused3 I miss his posts.
Ohhhh...I got an email from Disney about the Marathon. Cool! :smooth: It feels "official" now.

Maherae - COngrats!!! Oh, and teh aliens comment gave me a great giggle!
Jackie - This is probably way outdated, but did you check the lost & found fo ryour finish pic? Hope the shins feel better soon!
jodi -Awesome 5 K pics! CIongrats! Cool about dh's surprise trip!
Nancy - Awesome that your dh is hooked! Send him over here!
Colleen - Woo hoo! You da' woman!!! I would not have survived the time change, let alone the half and teh following red eye!
Dana - COngrats fr oconquering the BF HIll!! GREAT pace!! Hope your shins get better soon!
Kevin -I hear you on the rain! I'm soo tired of it! Hope life gets better soon!
Cam - :grouphug: Hope your weekedn went as good as it could. :grouphug:
Pat -Woo hoo! Another full-er for 07!!!!
Karen - Saying prayers for your friend'dd. At least she has a good friend watching out for her! :grouphug:
Sunny - YIKES!!!!!! You take it easy!!!!!! :wizard: :wizard: :grouphug:
Jen - SOrry about the soggy camping. Yuck! (And I thought the rain when I'm in a house was bad) :wizard: :wizard: fo rmotivation!
Judy - COngrats on the good training day! That makes a huge difference!
Amy - Cool that you're so strong! ;-) I believe menu, training asst, auto lap will get you the 1 mile auto lap feature. PM me if you need help! Hope your hip (and stomach) are feeling better soon!
Scott - Woo hoo! Awesome 5.5-mile!
Lily - Hope your schedule gets better soon! We miss you! :goodvibes
Kristi & Lynne -I can't believe you were so close & missed each other! Bummer!!
Lynne - Isn't this 3 weeks in a row for you????
Kristi - Wow, spectating in the rain is dedication! Hope your dh apprecitaed it!
Mel - SOunds liek a great plan. I tend ot like distance more than time, myself, as running faster does not help you on a timed run. Then again, for a stonker, at least you know when you can stop. ;-) BTW, I think your PF is better, but I saw socks fo rPF in a runnign store Saturday. HAve you looked into those? Woo hoo on your dd doing the half!!!
I have not trained since last Saturday ?. Heck of a week last week! DH and I have a 6-mile run in Mackinaw in 2 weeks. This week has got to get better. (Famous last words, as there'll be no running tonight. :(
I did buy new shoes, though. :teeth: How did I walk in teh store looking for teh Kyotos and end up with the Kienas??????? OMG! They felt so cozy on my feet that I could not give them up! Not to mentin, teh cute 17 YO who sold them to me ran his first marathon last POctober. He just glowed when he told us about it! So cute and reminded me of my marathon and I think I was just put into a trance or something. ;) can't wait to try my new shoes!
Have a great week everybody!!!

OK, I feel like a goober because today is my birthday and I kind of forgot. I mean, I knew it was my birthday but it really never registered. Does this mean I am getting old?? So it is raining AGAIN today, I think it has for 2 weeks straight. Also we had work trama which got me all in knots and now I am home nursing my sick 5 1/2 year old. She has a fever and cough. So I don't think running is in the books for me today. We are going to try to go to dinner tonight for my day and I just don't feel like hitting the treadmill tonight. SHOOOT... now I need new Pixie Dust!!!

Mel-- Sounds like a great bridge plan between the Minnie and Half. I am the same way about running... totally unable to get out the door without a plan.
Lynne-- Awesome time... Congrats!! :cool1:
Goofyguy-- I hope things work out for you.
Kristi-- If you are still on that weight plateau with all the exersice, maybe your body is trying to tell you something. Perhaps it just really likes that weight. I might check with your doctor to see how important those 8 lbs are for you to lose. Either way, congrats on your success so far!
Lynnda-- Woo hoo!! Congrats to you on your triathlon!!
Sunny-- Rest, rest, rest, rest, rest!!!!! Pnemonia is nothing to play around with. get better soon!!
Judy-- I don't know about your butt muscles, but the incline will make your workouts tougher and that will, over time, lessen that jiggle. :teeth: You got an email from the WDW Marathon people?!!? I didn't get an email?!? :confused3 Now I'm worried....
Cam-- FANTASTIC report!
As for me, Sunday I did get out and run a bit. Not for long, no Garmin and it felt slow... but I did something. Today I started a new crosstraining program that a personal trainer friend of mine developed. The goal is to get me in the rest possible shape before I start my Goofy training. It was a very intense first day, but I made it through, which is a great feeling. Doing this program I will still be running 4X a week, but with more weightlifting and cardio crosstraining intervals.
Well, back to work for me!

Hi WISH Team!
Carrie, Yay! for new shoes. You did a marvelous post.
Lynne, that was a great time. I can’t even imagine it.
Mike, PD for you. Hope all is going to be ok.
Kristi, hope you get that plateau figured out. You have done an amazing job.
Lynnda-- Woo hoo!! You ARE an athlete! :worship:
Sunny, please take it easy and do as required. I know it may seem quite difficult to be the obedient patient now, but please be a good girl and do as you are told. We want you healthy soon.
Judy, Yay for figuring out your jiggle! Keep on keepin’ on. The rest should tighten.
Cam, I loved reading your report. Thanks and great pics!
Kevin, great idea about the XT program. You are lucky to have a personal trainer friend to help.
Nancy, good news that you’ve got DH hooked. I am glad for that. I hope it makes it easier for you. Sometimes it’s nice to have someone to work with.
Pat, that is great news about getting the time for the full. It will be such fun training now.
I did a really stupid thing. I did a bit more on Saturday than I guess I was ready to handle and woke up a bit leg sore Sunday. Not too bad, but I forgot that I had to prep Sunday for colonoscopy procedure I was having today (Monday). Ouch! Running to the bathroom then getting up and down so many times while my legs were hurting was really a picture. Procedure has me kinda tired and dehydrated, so I’m laying low tonight. Have a different procedure scheduled on our return from vaca. (endoscopy) It still seems that I am not easy to figure out.
We leave Saturday for Cancun and return the following Saturday. I will definitely be doing lots of trekking in the sand.

Cam-- great photos! Thanks so much for sharing.
Jodi-- your 5K time is awsome! I remember when you were'nt sure if you could be a runner! You are a runner, girl!
I've been quite busy on the shirt thread. Here's a generic WISH logo shirt that could work for multiple events. We could then use the back for specifics. I have some back ideas over there, too, but I'm not completely happy with them.
Pat noticed I have the runners running in the opposite direction this year :rotfl2: I wonder what that means? :rotfl: I get them turned around. In the mean time, here's the most popular design so far. (We will probably put the feather on the back to keep the front bold and easy to spot from miles away ;) )
Pay no attention to my lack of ability to draw a decent shirt:

Hey Kevin, I didn't know you were doing Goofy this year! Way a go, you will do great!
Jodi, good job on your 5K, you are hooked now!
Pat, that is awesome you were able to get time off for the marathon, now it is time to start planning! :teeth:
Carrie, I am envious of your new shoes. I really want to try a new pair. I guess I just need to go into our running store and find out whats there for me. :bounce:
Lynne, you are awesome! I am in awe over how much you juggle in your day to day goings on.
Lynnda, awesome work on the tri!
Sunny, hope you feel better. If your body wants to sleep 18 hours, let it, it needs to recover!
Sara, where are you staying for this year marathon? Did I read correctly that you are bringing the kids? Are you just doing the full this year?
Hey MelR, :hippie: Hope everything is going well with you!
Off to do some speed work this morning. Yesterday I got back into my weight training in the gym. I felt great all day. I feel good this morning too! Can't wait to get out there to run.
Have a great day everyone, Colleen

I’m Back :sad1: Thankfully I have a ticker for July though :lmao:
Cam – I faced the Yeti!!!!!!!!! I’ll be writing a trip report as soon as I get a chance but I wanted to let you know that you helped me get past my fear to give it a try. Thank you!
I realized on this trip just how out of shape I am. Last year when I was wogging nightly I was in great shape for the trip, this one I was so out of shape that I hurt each morning and sitting here today – ouch. I am determined to use the next 7 weeks (I’m going back to WDW in July) to get back into wogging.
I'll try to catch up with everyone later.

Greetings all, on a VERY raining morning....
I talk to much, don't I? I blab on and on on these threads. I realized that yesterday. You guys should shut me up once in a while. :tilt:
Did my 50 min on the TM this morning, 45 of those at 3.8 and 5 running at 4.5, all @ 1%. I'm going to keep adding a few minutes here and there to the running. OK, it's probably really wogging. Plus I think I'll add some incline intervals for the "jiggles".
Jen - Ohh, a belated Happy Birthday! :bday:
Kevin - Ohh, I'm glad things are a little saner for you now. Thanks for the advice, I think I will up the incline a bit. And yes, I did get an email. I'll send it to you if you feel left out. :goodvibes I commented on this before but I just wanted to mention again that I noticed you are going on the Magic right before the marathon. I'm extremely jealous! :teeth:
Jodi - Yay on the official time! :thumbsup2
Lily - Ohh I don't know if I should be sending you :grouphug: or  ! I'm sorry to hear about all the tests, but get them over with and figure out whats going on. Have a fabulous time in Cancun! I fully expect pictures and a OT Trip Report!
Sunny - You have a wonderful ability to draw a shirt! I don't know what you're talking about. I LIKE this design very much! :thumbsup2 I hope you're feeling better. You're supposed to be resting you know.
Carrie - Ha ha ha - I didn't even notice that! Good catch! :lmao:
Minnie - Welcome back! I think walking around WDW is a pretty good stress test, don't you? I realize how out of shape I am every time I go. However......this September will be different!

Are you just doing the full this year?Don't force me to commit to a hotel when I haven't even registered for the marathon yet!! :rotfl2: Yes, I am merely doing the full so DH can run the half and we can bring the kids. It just wasn't the same without them there to cheer us on. I am 99% sure we'll be at POFQ because of the proximity to the start and the probability of our WISH meet being at the food court. The dragon slide will also be a selling point with our youngest, as the kids are pulling hard for Pop Century. I swear I am going to send in my marathon registrations before June :confused3 . Are you planning on going Goofy?!!

Minnie, hope that you will be doing well with the walking. Glad you figured out that you really need it, if that doesn't work for you what about stationary bicycle or swimming. It would improve that cardio with less skeletal stress.
Colleen, yay for adding the weight training. I need to do that too. Our running group advisor doc recommended that runners do that at least once per week. Not much more would be required during the event training phase. I'm sure the pre-event training it would be ok to add an extra day or so.
Sunny, I get the drawing. So I'd say you can do it fantastically!

Greetings TEAM! I'm back. I was out of town this past weekend visiting my parents in Delaware. It was a good trip, but a tiring one. Some of you may remember that my mother's health is not so great right now, and I've been trying hard to get down to see her since March. Anyhow, I am swamped trying to get back on track with work here right now. Plus, I came home to DD8 princess: with a case of the chicken pox!!! DW is going out of town on Thursday, I have my first 10K on Sunday, and then I need to go out of town Sunday evening. I'm sure DD5 princess: will also come down with chicken pox somewhere in there too, right? Whew, when it rains it pours.
I did manage to get 2 runs in this weekend. A 3 mile run on Saturday at 10 mpm pace and a 6 mile long run on Sunday at 10:30 mpm pace. My 6 miler was a really nice run from my parents house to the boardwalk at Bethany Beach (3 miles) and back. I discovered one thing I like about running in Delaware - it's flat, flat, flat!!!
OK, I need to go now. I'll post more later.

Colleen-- Yeah, after finishing the full I came down with a serious case of "medal envy." Heck, before the race I had a case of medal envy. Guess I really am :goofy:
Judy-- I looked and it seems that last year I got my first email about the race in June. The only email I didn't get were the one's about the Minnie, since I'm a ::MickeyMo and not so much a ::MinnieMo so as long as there is nothing vital in it, no need to send it along. Thanks for the offer though, it's much apprecaited. :) (Though I will admit to doublechecknig to make sure I was registered online....)
As for the Magic trip, that's actually not until 12/07, so well, well after next year's race. More likely I will spend the days leading up to the marathon doing my training runs through snow drifts here in Michigan (again....)

I had to give this an international note ;)
Colleen,
Lily is going to Costa Maya and Cozumel - with Eric (aka Viking :cool1: ) and 150 more DISers on Cruisetoberfest IV
I simulated the 3.5mile JPMCCC on the treadmill today and did it in 27 minutes flat, which is slightly under 8min/mile. I did it at an incline of 1.5% for the first 15 minutes and then at 1.0%. With half a mile to go I lowered the incline to 0.0% and sped up to 14km/h (slightly under 7min/mile), the last quartermile I did at 16.8km/h (5:45min/mile). My pulse was at 192 crossing the 'finish line', but went down to 110 during a 5minute cooldown at walking speeds, starting at 7,2km/h(4,5mph) and going down in steps every minute to a final speed of 4km/h(2.5mph).
I'll do the same next week, but add some speed. Today I had to work on the weights for an hour after the run and so didn't go to the limit.
The track of the JPMCCC in Frankfurt has an incline for the the first 2K, then a downhill portion, and the last 2K ar fairly flat. So my simulated incline is worse than reality, but IMHO it's preferrable to do it that way.

Greetings everyone,
Thanks for the pixiedust: for the knee. It is better, but not 100%. Part of me thinks it is new shoes. I changed models of shoes because my usual shoe store is constantly out of stock in my size. My first few runs in the new shoes were fine, and so was my marathon. I have about 120-150 miles on these shoes...but I think I will go back to my original model. Time to go to a different shoe store! I am still taking it easy to not injure my knee. If it is still sore after my upcoming 7 miler this weekend I will take the next 2 weeks off from running.
It should be pretty easy to become distracted from running for the next 2 weeks...I am on the MAGIC for a double-scoop of Castaway Cay on May 27!! That one will also stop in Costa Maya and Cozumel. party: Can't Wait!!! Knowing me tho, I will wind up running every day to work off all of the extra food.
GOOFY UPDATE: According to the Disney Website the GOOFY is over 65% full. If you are going GOOFY, sign up now!!!
Speaking of which, my wife is now officially signed up for the Goofy also :yay: :cheer2: . So that makes my wife, my brother, and myself going Goofy! I will start working on that trip after we get back from the Cruise.

Wow, I had a horrible run yesterday, struggled through 2.4 miles in 25 min. My mood has been really low lately, my legs are sore, and it really feels like every step is work. After my 10k on Sunday, I think I am going to take a couple weeks off of running, do some cross training, elliptical, water running or something to get my legs better. Eventually I'll get some new shoes when the money tree grows.

Good morning all!!
Yesterday I managed to get through my workout--- lifting here at the gym and then 35 minute run (3/2 intervals) and managed 9:30-something per mile pace and 3.6-something miles. The weather finally turned out beautiful yesterday but I felt really sluggish when I got out there. I'm not sure if it's the new workout program or trying to eat right again or being out of practice or what. Probably a combination of all three. Once I got going, it didn't turn out too bad. Today is another brutal crosstraining day. :woohoo:
Dave-- I went through a couple of periods during last year's training where I LOATHED running. Disliked my shoes, disliked being outside, disliked everything about it. I longed for the pool, lifting weights...anything but running. It's just something you have to get through.... this too shall pass.
That said, since you are a new runner and with those symptoms you describe, I wonder if perhaps you are overtrained a bit. A "down" mood, sluggishness, and soreness are all pretty classic symptoms. It may be worth your while to take a week off or maybe take your training down a couple of notches for a couple weeks and add in more crosstraining. Just do what feels right.
Jodi-- I have not booked my airline tickets yet and to be honest, I'm looking to book just as soon as I see an airfare that I'm willing to pay for the times I want. Right now things are a little too rich for my blood. I don't see airfare coming down a lot for me. That said, this is my reality of living in a city with a relatively small airport where airfare will naturally be more expensive. I don't remember where you are from, but if you have larger airports that you fly out of, then you are better positioned to look for a deal. (Oh how i miss living in DC-- three major airports and tons of cheap fares. Sigh..... )
I should start my day!
Happy training all!!

Dave, I have to say that I am where you are right now. I feel like I go through a roller-coaster with my running and it does get frustrating. I know you are also dealing with personal matters and probably had a very difficult weekend :grouphug: , keep in mind that the emotional strain can be the same as having weights attached to your back....really making anything physical feel that much more difficult. Don't discount that factor! But as for the run....you and I must have been in the same reality yesterday. I set out to run 4 miles and struggled through 2 in 21 minutes. I felt like I was running with cement sneakers...and my legs just killed. I was VERY discouraged and just really disappointed. Here's pixie dust for you that the 10K is wonderful and renews your love of running. Until then, hang in there and know that I can relate 100%! :goodvibes

I only did 20 minutes on the elliptical and 20 minutes on the bike, and by then it was about 8:45 and I seriously needed dinner. 2 nights in a row gives me hope that I might be able to get back into the swing of things before I have to get into the training plan for the DL 1/2 in a couple weeks. Unfortunately, the next couple days will provide no opportunities to get to the gym, since DD17's final HS wind ensemble concert is tonight, and tomorrow night I have a business dinner. Hmmmm. . . maybe Judy can inspire me to get on the treadmill tomorrow morning and virtually train with her! :cool1:
I have my first ever 5 miler on 5/27 and am very nervous because it is a very prestigious, crowded, competitive race and Howard and our friend Jim are running it, while I am walking it. This race fills up almost instantly and it is so hard to get into if you haven't run it before, so I registered in the hopes of continuing to do it every year and hopefully, some day, running it. BUT -- I am very self conscious about Howard and Jim having to wait probably 1/2 an hour afterwards for me. Jim is NOT a patient person. Hopefully, he will go sit on the boardwalk and relax until I am done.
Paul -- Glad to hear your knee is feeling a bit better. I agree that you should re-think the shoes.
Dave -- I know you have your hands full with a sick princess and DW travelling and that is probably not improving your disposition toward running, but I hope a brief respite after your 10K will provide a renewed passion for running for you. :goodvibes:
Jodi -- Is your DH flying from a different airport than you? Do you need help figuring out which ones might be cheaper alternatives for him? Personally, I am still desperate for SWA to release their dates for September (they are only taking reservations through 9/12 right now), because I HAVE to figure out airfare to the Disneyland 1/2!
monte -- awesome pace on the four miles! :thumbsup2
Carrie -- I hope you feel better. I am having a really rough time with sinus/allergies this year, too. Sending pixiedust: your way, kiddo!
AmyBeth-- I am impressed you did that great pace when you weren't feeling like running. I guess sometimes it really is good to just get it done, right?
Kevin -- I can't believe you did lifting, then running! Weren't you wiped out? Are you completely done school for now? When do classes start again?
Dena -- you are definitely one of the amazing WISH team members who inspires me to get out there and do it even when I don't want to. I love that "freaking did it" line -- that is how I felt last night driving away from the gym ''That sucked, but at least I freaking did it!" Oops! Think that will get bleeped out by the mods?
Well, the bad news is that I have come to the conclusion that I can't do Chicago in August. Financial considerations aside, there is so much going on with DD moving into college the next weekend and having to take time off work the week after that to go to performance weekend at DS's performing arts camp. I did look at airfares and the cheapest I could come up with is a little over $500 for Howard and me, and that is just too much for a long weekend in the middle of everything else going on. I wish the temptation of being with my WISH friends and earning that penguin medal wasn't so HUGE! So, although I have yet to get to the Chicago thread to let my dear friends Lily and Liz and Pat and everyone else know, I think I am going to stop spending so much energy trying to figure out how to get there and worrying about all the other things that have to be a priority (including planning and paying for a week in the Anaheim area). The reality is that having done the WDW 1/2 and the Minnie and having the DL 1/2 and the WDW Full to look forward to, all in the space of a year, is pretty darn good. And I know I am spoiled. So, I am sad, but resigned. And truly grateful for all the opportunities I DO have.

Greetings all. Today was a rest day. I tried to sleep until 6:00 but between DH and the cat......
Dave - How about some walking? That will keep you in the training groove. I feel badly for you. :wizard:
Kevin - That's some great advice you gave Dave. :thumbsup2
Amy - Ohh, I feel badly for you too. :wizard: Let's think of something to get you guys out of these slumps. Hmmmm.... :mickeybar
Cam - Ha ha! You're in luck! Tomorrow is not a rest day! I'll be very glad to virtually train with you. :thumbsup2 OK, now, set your alarm for 4:30am.... Oh you made me laugh so much with the new smilie in your signature! "Now I'm scared". Gee, if I lived in Chicago you could come stay with us. Well, if you want to do the NYC Marathon, let me know! We are about 40 minutes north of Manhattan. :teeth:

Thanks Sunny - That's a great compliment! I give you part credit really --- after reading your journal, I started to run.....I really don't think I would have taken it on otherwise :goodvibes
Jodi
Oh thank you, Jodi :grouphug: I needed that right about now. At the moment, walking across the parking lot is equivalent to a half marathon! I made the mistake of coming to work today  Can we say "oxygen depletion"?
As for the charity drive-- yes! I haven't given up on the idea, I just didn't want to beat everyone over the head prematurely :teeth:
Thanks, Dave for finding the thread and posting it.
Here is my first stab at a website: firstgiving.com/WISHteam (http://firstgiving.com/WISHteam) I've also started an "e-Zine" sort of page that will tell great things about us that can be used to ease into the "giving" site but its no where near ready for prime time ;) NOTE: I plan to replace the old logo with the picture taken at WL last year if no one objects. Also, I plan to contact firstgiving and ask if its possible to have the wording changed from "I, me and my" to "us". They are preset for individuals.
I'd love any feedback, input anyone has on the blurb about us. Of course Cam is right there front and center :grouphug: (without names), I'd like to highlight some of the great overcomer stories we have here and use that as a spring board as to why we want to "give back" in our own gratitude.
I think I'll load up my laptop and go home now. I'm way too dizzy to be at work :sad2:
Jodi, if you want to setup your own drive, just go to firstgiving.com and follow the instructions. I contacted the NKF and asked their opinion of fg and it was very favorable. FG charges 7.5% on the donations, but 2.5% of that goes directly to the credit card fee so they really only charge 5%. Its a safe, easy, accountable way to raise the funds.

Hi Cam :wave2:
No, DH will be flying from the same airport as me but he will be flying out on a different day than me. I'm flying out on Thursday --- He will be leaving Friday evening....but I want to be able to schedule the same flight back. The flight that is really killing me with the price is his flight out on Friday (I guess they consider that peak time and charge more).
I was looking at Delta, for right now but might see what else leaves out of Bradley.....although, I really like Delta :goodvibes

Sunny!!!! You get yourself home to bed ASAP! Besides needing a ton of rest, your immune system is very weak right now. You cannot afford to be in public and pick up something else. That could put you in the hospital!!!!
PS - I'm only being mean because I feel bad enough that you're sick. The thought of your getting worse is terrible. Please take care of yourself!

wow...always so much going on here!!
I have to put myself in with those who have struggled with runs over the last few days. After a great 6 miler on Saturday (under 1 hour) and a rest day on Sunday, I had the absolute worst run ever on Monday. I could only complete 2 miles (20 minutes) of a planned 45 minute run. It was even difficult to walk. I'm guessing that the 6 miles had more of an impact on my body than I thought (it's the longest I have ever ran).
Now the funny thing is that I had an awesome crosstraining day on the elliptical yesterday! 40 minutes went by quick and it seemed so effortless...the exact opposite of Monday's experience.
So I'm gonna keep with the cross training for a couple days and then probably run another 5k race this Saturday.
It's nice to have this group though...you get to see other people going through the same things that you are going through.
have a good week WISH team!

For all those struggling for a bit...
From March 2005 to Dec 2005, I struggle diwth all but a handful of weekday rights. They just never felt good. Saturdays, I did ok. (Except when it was too hot (most of the summer) and too icy. But I pulled it off just fine at the end.
I don't think any of you will struggle for that long, but if your body's saying I need a break, give it a few days. The last 16 to 20 weeks is when to really push. Also, the taper will do wonders fro you. Hang in there everyone! It's hard because we've lost a bit of our initial "I'm runnign a marathon!" enthusiasm and real training seems so far away, but it's important not to slack too much now.
My best recommendation is to give your legs a little break, but maybe you need a change of scenery or something to switch things up for you. Drive to a new park or find a buddy or buy new tunes for the mp3. Something ot distract yo from the monotony adn just let yourself go. Maybe even not wearing your Garmin :O or only letting yourself look at it certain times so you're not always worried about pace. Just try to go and have fun. The days I take all pressure off myself are teh days I do best.
Fun story - Most of you know I complaned A LOT about runnign with dh last year, but would not have made it w/o him. DH told my dad that he would not have finished without me pushing him end of the race. I knew he was hurting, but did not know how much. Not that I'm glad he was having a hard time, but it's nice to know that I didn't really hold him back in the end. :cloud9:
Go team go!!! ;) :cheer2:

Jodi, hold on tight, wait until the Fall for prices to come down. I believe it was September I scored a $99 roundtrip fare from Greensboro, NC to Orlando on Delta. They had a great sale for about 2 weeks.
I was very excited for the $99 fare, the whole family came.
Judy, you live that close to Manhatten??? Ooooh, I think we should keep that in mind for future NYC marathons! :wave2:

I ditto Carrie's entire post. Very well said. For the first timers among us, it's important to really try and maintain that enthusiasm and at the same time temper it until the "real" training starts. I didn't actually run the WDW Marathon the first time I signed up. Or the second. It was actually the FOURTH time. My M.O. was always the same.... start out gangbusters for 6 to 8 weeks, get burned out and then give it up. I would hate for anyone here to suffer that same fate. Ditto injuries. You don't have to best yourself everytime out, or even come close. This is supposed to be fun!! :cheer2:
Carrie-- Wouldn't you know it, Allegiant only flies to Orlando two times a week...and not on my dates. Drat!
Cam-- For now, yes, all done with school for now. Since I wised up and am being a bit more reasonable with my course load next year, there was no reason to take a class this summer. Classes don't start up again until August 28th. Oh, and it actually wasn't too bad with the weights and running to be honest. I have it set up where I do two muscle groups per day (For example, yesterday was bi's and tri's- 4 exersices per, 8 total). As long as I do upper body on my run days, I'm usually fine. Lifting legs and then running is always a mistake for me.

I had to give this an international note ;)
Ha, I took 2 years of german in High School and remember teeny bits of it. Thanks!!!!
Last night at 8:20 PM, I went out for a run. My crazy life has prevented me from doing anything for myself lately (that and the rain). So I decided that I could do 2 miles before it turned totally dark... and I jogged the entire thing. I was so proud of myself. For some reason I thought that after 1 1/2 weeks of nothing that I wouldn't be able to jog more than a block. Silly me. I took it slow and finished in about 25 minutes, including a couple warm up and cool down blocks.
AND, I am so tired of morons yelling out their vehicle windows when I am jogging. What compels people to be so disrespectful???

I'm still catching up on posts...
We booked our flight a couple weeks ago. Flights out of Wisconsin are higher in price and frequency. We were able to score round trip for $200. We were hoping for a little lower, but the price keeps going up and once the plane fills you are out of luck here. We are driving to Milwaukee because they had the best rate. Last November we got round trip for $180 each and that is the lowest we have ever found. Also, we needed to book for 6 people (gag, the in-laws begged to come along!)
And for the Chicago Marathon... I live about 4 1/2 hours away. If anyone needs a place you are welcome. Maybe one day I too can run Chicago... I love that city!!!

I 2nd the comment about you'all being such a great support team. Your encouragement is awesome. :thumbsup2 I haven't done anything since the Indy Mini as my knees are still a little tender after 13+ miles. I am going to listen to my wise WISH coaches and just take some nice easy walks this week and see if I can work up to jogging next week. I'll just have to be patient :hourglass until I'm physically (and a little mentally) ready to get back out there. Have a great one...

Fortunately it mostly hit him on his hip and didn't cause any injury, but it really freaked me out to think someone would do something so malicious.

Okay Team, so I may have won the Weirdest Thing Seen While On a Run Award tonight...
It was about 10pm and DH and I saw a truck coming at us so we stepped off the road and into the grass. The truck pulled over right in front of us. I told DH, "great, they think we need a ride." But no, a Dad got out of the driver's side and an 17 or 18 year old guy got out of the passenger's side. Then 2 guys (a Dad and a teenager) came out of the house across the street. The 2 Dads stood on the side of the road while the 2 teenagers proceeded to FIST FIGHT right there in front of us! Can you believe it?!?!? The 2 boys were pounding away at each other while the Dads just stood there. One Dad said, "Well it's good that they're finally getting it out of their system." Are you kidding me??? Wow. The first thing I thought of was, "Dude, wait until I tell the WISHers about this!!!" Second thing being, "Dear God please let me get home safely!"
Scott- You are doing amazing with your workouts! What 5k are you doing this weekend? I found a super cute one up near Atlanta that I would love to do. It's in Cartersville. It's called the Duck Dash (http://www.bartowschild.org/duckdash.htm) and since our last name is Drake, it would be perfect. But I refuse to make that drive for a 5k again. You are so lucky to have so many 5ks near you. I can't find a good one around here for June. :confused3 I also see you're a big Lost fan. So is my DH. Let me guess, you like 24 too???
Jodi- That dance thing was hilarious! Thanks for sharing.
Carrie- I can totally relate to your feeling like you are holding DH back. I would be in heaven if he told me he couldn't finish without me. I bet that was awesome for you! I keep trying to push myself just so we can get to a pace where he can run comfortably. He once jokingly told me, "If we run any slower we're gonna be going backwards." Ahhh...Don't you love them?!
Cam- I can't believe someone threw something at Howard! How awful. :sad2: People are nuts. Thanks for your comment about being inspiring even when I said I hated running. Knowing I made a small difference to you helped me get out there again tonight.
CJ- It sounds like you are making a wise decision to rest and let your body recover. Lord knows I would be using the race as an excuse not to get out of bed for at least a week! Your "1k @ a time" is encouraging to me. Unfortunately, I think of it as 3 minutes at a time, which is going to make for a loooooong 1/2 marathon! :rotfl2:

All those 62,390 runners will start at the same time and run on the same 3.5mile/5.6K-track :lmao: This means that there won't even be sufficent space for everyone to STAND on the track at 11,141 runners/Kilometer :rotfl2: My guess is that the start alone will take about an hour or so.

Colleen-You will have fun at the MCM a friend of mine did it last year & really enjoyed it.
Hi Tiff, Good to hear from you! I really needed some down time after the Disney Marathon too, more mentally than physically. You will come out of it!
I am running Chicago, it is Sara that signed up for MCM.
Christa, good too hear from you too! BTW, you look fantastic! It was WW you used to drop that last few pounds correct? Anyway, you do look great, so healthy! :sunny:
Jen and Liz thank you so much for your offers. I am traveling with a friend so we will probably just bite the bullet and stay downtown.
Liz, do you know the downtown area? I am contemplating between the Westin River North and the Westin on Michigan Avenue. Which would you pick for location? The reviews I read said the Westin River North is nicer.

Cam - Holy cow!!!! That is awful!!!! Send hugs to Howard for me!
Dena - DH had told me I got him thorough it, but he tends to be overly nice. ;) Him telling my parents, though, made it seem more true. When I was injured last fall, thouhg, he told me I had to get better, as he burns himself out too fast. Hopefully your dh will realize you're really helping to pace him soon! BTW - You win for stories for sure!
Jen - They whistle and such fo rus too. I'm sure it's all for dh, though. ;) Why do people think it makes them cool?
Tiff - SOunds like you're grabbing that bull by the horns. Good for you! Don't let one disappointing run get you down, though.
Eric - Wow! That's A LOT of people!

Paul - pd on the knee. Hopefully the new shoes will help.
I am so sorry for those of you that have struggled with your runs lately. Believe me I have been there and done that.
Jen - I know what you mean. I refuse to even run in my neighborhood because of that kind of behaviour. It amazes me that people can be so rude. That's why now I only run on the jogging trails near where I live.
Jodi - That dancing video was so funny. The saddest part is that I remember doing most of it myself!!
Dena - Hard to believe that some adults condone that type of behaviour huh? I used to have custody of my 14 year old cousin, and he got into an argument with his best friend. Well his best friends mother called me and told me she was going to drive her son to my house so that he and my cousin could fight it out. My response to which was that if she tried I would call the police. I understand that sometimes boys are going to fight, but as adults we are supposed to try and prevent it, not encourage it.
Well, I have alot to update on. Tuesday I went for a run and it felt a bit off. Every once in a while when my right foot fell my ankle would twinge a bit and hurt. And no lie, every time my feet landed and my butt jiggled it would hurt. Which I thought was really odd. Other than that my run went well. But as the day went on I started feeling worse. I started to get the chills and my whole body ached. I mean I couldn't get comfortable no matter what. My hips, knees, back, everything hurt horribly. I was running a fever of 102. So yesterday morning I woke up and my throat was sore so I went to the dr. and come to find out I got strep throat. Now the baby is running a fever and Michael isn't feeling great either. Thank goodness the antibiotics the doc gave me yesterday are starting to kick in!! It looks like I am going to miss my run today because there is no way I am feeling good enough to run. Hopefully I'll feel better by Saturday.
Good news now!! David and I are buying a new house!! David does irrigation in new housing subdivisions, and he was working on this one house and wanted me to come see it because he liked the floor plan. Well I went and saw it and really liked it, so I went to another neighborhood to see if they had any that were completely built. They had one that was completely finished, and the people who had the house built couldn't fulfill the contract so the house was available again, at the price that the original people would have paid. Well, I fell in love with it. It has a huge back yard, a 3 car garage, the neighborhood is going to have running trails, I am so excited. We go to fill out all of the paperwork on Friday, and we'll close in about 2 weeks!!

Dana....GREAT news on the house....PD for your strep though :( You guys have really been battling the illness this spring. Hopefully you'll feel better soon and that will be the end of sickness for a while!!! :wizard:
Cam....That story about DH getting a bottle thrown at him is awful :guilty: . One day a bunch of teens swerved at me when I was running then beeped and made fools of themselves. It's not as if running isn't hard enough....but then it can become a riot zone with these idiots :furious: . Luckily I refrained from doing anything stupid, no hand gestures or cursing  , and I'm a nice girl really but the thought did cross my mind LOL. Anyway...sorry to hear that happened to him b/c he really could have been hurt badly!
Christa....Thanks for sharing the pics. You look amazing!!!
Carrie and Kevin....Thanks to both of you for putting my bad run into perspective. I have to say it really helped me knowing that this is part of the normal process!
Sunny....Hope you're feeling better today! Pixie Dust for that pneumonia...it's nothing to mess with!!!! :wizard:
Jodi....THANKS for the great video clip. It was so funny...that guy was great!
So I signed up for two races in June....one is a 5 mile trail run that is known to be challenging. The best part is that the last place finisher gets a prize called the "No Guts No Glory". I may just win that one LOL! The other race is a local 5K.
Today I ran 4 miles in just over 40 minutes, so overall a much more successful run. I'm still playing around with the Garmin and had it set to interval runs of 5:1. Well, I didn't realize that would mess with my mile splits LOL so I have no idea what each split worked out to be. I just know my avg. was around 10:20 mpm and my best was 9:17?! :confused3 I'm baffled by technology LOL!

You know, the funny thing is that none of us got sick at all last year. Except for normal colds we were fine. This year has just been one sickness after another. I think it might be the kidcare at the gym. Ever since we started going there in January we have been sick constantly. I am a SAHM so my kids haven't been exposed to all the germs at schools and daycares until now. I hope that this will be the end of it. I am not happy about missing my run today!! Unlike some of you guys here I am not burnt out yet, and really miss it when I don't get to run!! :guilty:

Greetings everyone. I'm annoyed with myself this morning because I overslept and did not train. Now I will feel antsy and crabby all day. Well, I suppose no one will notice the difference.
Anyone near Naples, Florida, or know anything about it? DH wants to go there to look at some property for sale. His friend lives there and has been telling us about it. We're considering it. :wizard: Hey, it's that much closer to WDW!
Sara - Marines? Always so handsome in their uniforms....Tempting, very tempting.... :goodvibes
Sunny & Scott - Geez, I'm so out of the loop on these things. I've heard of Lost but I know nothing about it! The only thing I watch is Golden Girls! :teeth:
Cam - OMG! Someone threw something at Howard??? :furious: Oh people really make me mad sometimes! I can't believe that! I was just telling DH last night I really need to get in some "pavement time" but I am nervous about going out alone. And stuff like this is why! Oh and BTW, I didn't get to bed until almost 11 last night so I don't even remember turning off my alarm at 4:30. I must have still been asleep when I did it. Then I didn't wake up until 6:20. Needless to say, I did not train this morning. And now I am so aggravated about it! I MUST MUST MUST get to sleep by 9. I just have to. I'm sorry Cam, I wasn't up early enough to send you training vibes.
Dena - OMG! Ok, I'm starting to think now ALL my training will be on the TM! :sad2:

There are so many upgrades in this house it is ridiculous. We had actually been looking at new houses for almost 4 years. And no matter what there was always something wrong with every one we found. This one is perfect though. It has an open floor plan, a huge yard, the HOA doesn't have a restriction about commercial vehicles (which was a big deal since DH owns his own company), and it has wonderful schools. The funny thing is that I walked in almost immediately after they released it for sale!! It seems as if this was just fate!!

People yelling at me when I run make me so mad... I just want to yell "Didn't your momma teach you any manors?" But then I come to senses and just tell myself to zip it!!
SOOOO... apparently there IS a running group in my city. I have looked and looked and today there was an article in the paper about them. I have sent an email, so I hope I get a response. And apparently there are way more races and runs available that I didn't even know about. Everything is so secretive, I just want to be in on it. So hopefully the group will get back to me and I can have some in-person running buddies. Not that all you wonderful on-line buddies aren't good enough.... I still love ya!!!

Good afternoon everyone! I got in a good workout today while the boy was in preschool. I was able to mt. bike a 9 mile sing.track trail and do a 4 mile trail run. After I picked up the boy, I had to go get groceries, so that (of course) took forever and I was STARVING. I'm not sure I'll catch up!
Christa - I LOVED the pic. You look beautiful (and very thin - in a good way)!
Colleen - You can totally run a marathon in october and then do disney! There are maintance plans on hal higdon's site. I pretty much did one a month (counting goofy and a trail ultra) for 4 months. I didn't really have to do too much to maintain in between. I just ran them all at a very comfortable pace and lied to myself by saying they were training runs for the 50mile trail run that i chickened out of!
Dena - That is weird! I wonder if the fight had as much to do w/ the dad's egos as it did to do w/ the boys.
Sara - Sooooo Coool!!!! Have fun at the marine corps marathon. Lynn was there last year.
Lynn - I need you to delurk to give me some info the xterra races (i've only done adventure races off road) Are the transitions as fast paced as the road tri's? Should I wear a camelbak or just use the course? If I'm really slow on the mt. bike, do i just let everyone by? Where can i make up time?
Bummer, I think the boyis not going to nap!!! I really need sleep after the workout today. I have decided that napping is essential to my recovery!

I completely agree that you can do a marathon in October and be recovered in time to do Disney. I am living proof. I did my first marathon last October and was able to successfully complete the Goofy. I treated the October marathon as a training run....nice and slow with plenty of walk breaks. It provided me with valuable experience for Disney...I learned what a marathon feels like and how to pace myself.
If you decide to do an October marathon, remember to go slow and to give yourself plenty of time after the marathon before your next speedwork or very long run.

Xterra races- yes, the transitions are as fast paced as road tris. Camelbaks make sense on many of the courses for the bike because if it's pretty technical, bottles in cages don't do so well. It also allows you to carry some tools and tube changing supplies. Yes, you should yield but you'll probably do better on the mtn bike than you suspect. Where to make up time- the run! Of course, I never did as I was more of a swim-bike type that just survived the run. My run is pretty improved I think.
So I'll be finding out Sunday just how improved my fitness is. I'm tapering and ready to go.(leave for the airport in about 30 minutes) The big concern right now is the forecasted high for Orlando for Sunday is 97 :crazy2: Even if I have a great swim and bike, I'll still be running a half marathon right around noon.
Have a great weekend everbody!

Christa-- you look AMAZING :cheer2: You end the week with 66 points left over? No wonder you look so thin, but most of all totally FIT.
Cam & others with the throwing-- that is awful. What jerks. I bet its mostly a bully reaction "you're doing something great and I'm riding in a car-- therefore if I'm mean to you, I'll feel better about my slug self". Go figure. Howard's doing 22 milers? WOW!
Judy-- best not to play with "Lost' if you've made it this far :rotfl2: :lmao:
Scott-- I finally remembered to do the website that they advertise near the end-- cool!
I have to say I am sooooo jealous of your training posts. I can feel my muscles turning into mush as I lay around. :furious: :sad2: My lungs are starting to clear, though so that's good.
Jodi-- I'm so glad your breast cancer awareness weekend was so positive. I've wanted to do the 60 miles in 3 days walk for so long but there's just no way I could raise the $2,400 required.
Well, back to work. I'm actually doing more real work at home than I do at the office :confused3 I guess its the lack of interuptions (which will cease in minutes as DS is coming home from school soon).

Christa -- I am so psyched that you did the torch run. Howard and I are on the organizing committee for Special Olympics and our summer games are coming up in June. Here is a really cool article from Special Olympics Delaware's website:
Delaware Law Enforcement for Special Olympics has emerged as one of Special Olympics Delaware's largest grass-roots fund-raiser and public awareness vehicles.
In its 20 years – the Torch Run will have raised over $1.9 million dollars to support Special Olympics year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Their year-round effort combines the presentation of medals at all Special Olympics Games, as well as fund-raisers such as the DSTA Golf Classic, Ads Solicitation, Shop Rite Barbecue Days, Truck Convoy and a 160-mile Torch Run, just to name a few.
In 2006, over 450 police officers will run in Delaware 's Law Enforcement Torch Run ® - the signature event of their year-round efforts.
Throughout the year, over 550 officers participate in the Torch Run, counting support services, traffic control, Special Olympics and fund-raising volunteers.
With more than 60 of Delaware's Law Enforcement agencies involved in the Torch Run, over 25 percent of all police officers participate in Delaware Law Enforcement for Special Olympics.
The personnel who do our torch run are amazing and generous! You should see the athletes' reactions to receiving their medals from uniformed law enforcement personnel. Real tear jerker! So, how did you get involved with that? BTW, congrats on the new job and your awesome new look! You look so great!
Sunny -- Howard is doing the Delaware Marathon Sunday, so his last LR was 22+ miles. Of course, he is tapering now, and when I asked about dining at one of his favorite restaurants Sunday he asked me to make sure they have wheelchair access! :rotfl2: The course is going to be boring, I think. It loops 4 times! Makes it very easy for spectators, but ridiculously boring for the runners, I'd bet. BTW, Howard said there were walkers' times in last year's results. I may have to seriously consider doing this next year. Though, what I really want to do is the Minnie followed by a 3 or 4-day Disney cruise to "recover" -- my sweet friend Rhonda (akasleepingbeauty) has the best ideas ever! :teeth:

Christa,
that's a cool picture!!!
Dave,
you may be right on that. Official shutdown for the track is 9pm, but that may have to be extended.
TiffJ,
it is hard to believe, but it is possible to move as the streets we are running on have four lanes minimum and so the track is never narrower than about 12m/36' and often wider. And you can also use the sidewalks at some portions of the track. But if you're aiming for a good time - you can just forget it. I intended to beat my 2005 time of 24:32 (3.5miles), but I guess it will be to crowded. The last years I started together with DW, but lost her after the first K. We then used our cells to reunite after the finish line. This year we'll probably simply stay together running her pace (She did 25:40).
The starting area is divided: The runners line up in two different streets and after about a quartermile both groups merge onto a four lane road. And the start is staggered, they send off a couple of thousand people every two minutes or so. Unfortunately nobody waits in his/her 'time zone'
The starting area is divided into zones according to your estimated time per mile/K, but nobody pays attention to it - the people just cue up. I usually run 7min/mile and have to pass thousands of people who are considerably slower but started in front of me. Who cares, we're just doing it for the fun of it and it's intended to boost team spirit - and a big team we are. My company starts with a team of 47 this year, which is quite good considering that we only have ~450 employees. Large employers like major banks or Lufthansa start with teams of 2,000+.

Go Howard! :cheer2:  :cheer2:  I'll have to tell DS Howard is running a marathon and see if he remembers him and if he remembers how long a marathon is! (He told everyone his mom ran twenty-six miles!) Which I related to him in "Grammy miles". Grammy lives 30 miles from us. Its a very long drive! I'll have to word it something like "do you remember that guy who helped you chase birds at Disney World?" and go from there :)
There's an 8-loop marathon right up the street from me in July. Its called "24 hours around the lake", its an ultra, too. People run as many laps as they can. The circ. of the lake is ~3.3 miles. I'm tempted to do it this year. Its in July at night (read mosquitoes) and has to be boring as all get out, but hey, its about 7 miles from my house!

Greetings all! T.G.I.F!
I have to tell you all something. It's a secret, of sorts.
I've never told anyone this....
But....I lust in my heart.
Yes, it's true. I have a deep dark secret.
I don't know how to say this, but....but.....
I really want to be a runner.
There. I've said it.
It's out in the open.
As laughable as that might seem, with me having about 40 pounds to lose and bum knees. I long, so very much, to run.
Whenever I see someone on the road, or even in a magazine ad, running along, I get a huge pang of jealousy and longing.
Back in my early 20's my dad and I used to run six miles five days a week after work. My dad was friend's with some guys in Greenwich, CT who ran with Jim Fixx. Well, if THAT ain't inspiring, I don't know what is! But anyway, I remember how much I loved it! But then we just sort of stopped. I don't know, I guess life got in the way. (Oh yeah, that's right, I got married, built a house, blah blah blah...) But anyway, yes, I want to run. I am only jogging/wogging/running three minutes or so at the end of my 45 min TM walk, but I want to keep adding minutes here and there and see what happens.
Meanwhile I have joined Cam's Hundred Days so maybe I can shed some of this weight. Perhaps some exercises to strengthen my knees......
"If you can dream it, you can do it".
I heard that somewhere. :teeth:
Christa - I have to chime in with those who said you look incredibly fit. I agree! :thumbsup2

Thank you for all the kind words about my "incident" with a plastic bottle half filled with Mountain Dew being flung at me from a construction pick-up truck going about 40+/- MPH. Luckily it partially hit my waistbelt and part of my well padded left posterior region :rolleyes1 . It was more startling than painful. I wish I had been able to get the license or business name of the vehicle. No such luck. Be careful out there.
As Cam has said, I am running the Delaware Marathon on Sunday at 7 AM. I have logged close to 906 miles since my training matrix began the first week of February. My LR was 22.21 miles just a few Sundays ago. I handled that pretty well. As Cam mentioned, it is a looping course with loops of 7.3, 6.3, 6.3 and 6.3 miles.
http://www.races2run.com/marathon/images/2006/DEmarathonMap06.GIF
Fortunately there are not many hills on the course. To be successful I am going to pace myself, keep my body fueled up and just enjoy the process as much as possible. I am hoping to keep within a 9:30 - 10:30 pace and will be shooting for a 4:15-4:30 first marathon finish. I finished the WDW Half in January in 2:14:56 (with a kidney stent in) and the Caesar Rodney Half in March in 1:59:33.
I'll post a note after the Marathon (when I am up to it) with my results. Again, THANK YOU for your notes of encouragement!

Judy -- I agree with AmyBeth that you really are so fun to have here! I also agree that if you are running at all, you are a runner. I do understand what you mean about the duration of the runs, compared to what you were doing at one point in your life. If you haven't read Marathoning for Mortals, you really should. I think you are a kindred spirit to the penguin who had a genuine love of running earlier in his life and genuinely longed for that involvement again. I really like that he tells us that if we are running, we are runners. If we are running in the bodies we have, then we have runners' bodies. His philosophy and approach are so energizing and reassuring.
AmyBeth -- sorry your little one is sick. Sending pixiedust: for a quick recovery!
Sunny -- Do I have to come there and tie you down? ;) I sure as heck hope you will allow your body to recover fully from the pneumonia before you try to train for ANY endurance event! Take care of you! :grouphug:
Minnie -- I LOVED your EE report! You should be so proud of yourself! :cheer2:
I have to say, I was tickled by the Dana--Dena/Yulee coincident! Now, everybody sing "It's a Small World After All. . . " <---- Jenn HATES when I do that. Says the song gets so stuck in her head! :rotfl:

I've never told anyone this....
But....I lust in my heart.
Yes, it's true. I have a deep dark secret.
I don't know how to say this, but....but.....
I really want to be a runner.
There. I've said it.
It's out in the open.
As laughable as that might seem, with me having about 40 pounds to lose and bum knees. I long, so very much, to run.
JUDY!
You are a runner!
I haven't kept track of where you are in your training journey, whether you're walking, wogging or jogging at this point. But let me tell ya, baby everything in your posts scream
Runner!
Now, I'm going to say this once and only once as you know I don't speak of my unmentionable body part...
I started training for the '05 half with the hopes of wogging it. I started walking long distances at ~220lbs (can we say chaffing?). Then I started doing little jog intervals (yes, still at 220 lbs). At some point I was running 3-6 miles at 5.5 mph on the treadmill still way above 200 lbs.
Fast forward to training for '06. Yes I lost most of the weight I needed to, and ran many, many miles, but in November the pain in my left knee was so unbearable I did the unthinkable and went to see an ortho/sports med guy. (turns out he's the vice chairmen of Orth/sport med at Lahey Clinic). At the height of my training, this dr who I foundly refer to as Dumb-dumb sat me down and told me "some people aren't meant to run marathons" and explained I have a deformed knee. Somewhere in early development the patella didn't fuse completely and my knee won't hold up... It was the first concrete evidence that my "superstition" about my knee was based on truth. I always knew there was something not right about it, I just didn't know what. TG, I probably wouldn't have done most of the things I've done if I knew I had a deformed knee!
http://livinglively.com/wdwFavrunningpic.jpg
Need I say more?
Dumb-dumb also told me I can't do 500 lb leg presses anymore. He was right, I do 600 lb leg presses now :teeth:
As Locke would say (I know you have no clue who Locke is) "Don't tell me what I can't do"
As Billy Blanks says "The body doesn't lead, the body follows. Your mind and your spirit lead"
Your mind/spirit is clearly a runner. You're body will follow :cloud9: :cheer2:
Sunny
ETA: BTW, Billy Blanks (TaeBo) has a deformed hip and dyslexia. He was told he'd never amount to much... Have I ever mentioned he's my hero

Judy - I have to agree with Sunny :sunny: :
YOU ARE A RUNNER!You are also a very sweet person! I love running because I only compete with ME! Never try to compare yourself with anyone else...you are the only one you are racing against.
Thanks for all the encouragement. You all make me feel beautiful! I have to say that my Tri pix is what got my butt in gear! Here is one to laugh at.

After seeing those, I knew I wanted to look different so I just really started eating healthy. I sill have about 8lbs to loose, but my Oreos get in the way!
Here is the end of the torch run...me and my "G's"...Colleen, Amy, & Pam! They are wicked fast and I busted my butt to keep up with them Wednesday!

Took me a bit to catch up again, but I did it. Sorry for the long post. :teeth:
Pat – That is GREAT that you were able to get the time off of work in January.
Sunny – Hope you are feeling better. Please take care of yourself & get plenty of rest. You truly are an inspiration.
Nancy & Carrie – Thank you for keeping my friends daughter in your prayers. She had her 2nd surgery on Wed. where they removed parts of her brain & disconnected other parts. It may take a year to know how successful the surgeries were. Please continue to keep her in your prayers. She can really use all she can get.
Mel – That is GREAT that your DD has decided to do the half.
Lynnda – CONGRATULATIONS on your Tri!!!
Jen – Happy Belated Birthday! It’s great that you found a running group in your city.
Lily – Have a fun trip.
Jodi – Thanks for the link. Very funny.
Cam – OMG, What is wrong with some people. I’m glad DH wasn’t seriously hurt.
Dena – I think you should definitely win the Weirdest Thing Seen on a Run Award. Unbelievable.
Eric – Wow, that certainly is a whole lot of people.
Dana – Hope your feeling better. Congratulations on buying a new house. Nice floor plan.
Amy – That 5 mile trail run sound like fun. I like the last place finishers prize. Pixie Dust for your DD’s. I bet they will look adorable in the wedding.
Christa – Congratulations on the new job. Great job on your Torch Run.
Judy – If you run (no matter how far the distance) you are a runner. Keep up the great job you are doing with your training.
Thank you to everyone that has been posting race reports and photos. I have really enjoyed them.
GOOD LUCK to those racing this weekend.
Pixie Dust to those struggling with motivation and/or injuries.
As for me....I am still continuing to go to the high school track 4-5 times a week doing a minimum of 3 miles each time. Some days I do a mix of walking & running, some days just walk as fast as I can, & some just walk at DH (John) or a friends pace and enjoy the company. I have also started doing a Yoga for Strength DVD.
Happy Training!!!!!!

 Hi Karen!!! Some more pixie dust for your friend's DD. What a scary situation :(. I sure hope the surgeries have a positive impact on her quality of life. She will remain in my thoughts.
Also, just noticed that you are a fellow NJ girl!!! Are you doing any races this summer? It would be great to meet up! Kim (Kimwim) and I are going to meet up to do the Guts & Glory 5K in Ocean City NJ. I'm also looking for some more races this summer to keep me motivated. I'm trying to get some folks to do a half with me as a training run this October...there is one in Sandy Hook and I think there is going to be one in A.C. as well. The other half that I am considering is the Liberty Waterfront Run! All three are in early October so perfect timing for Full Marathon training ;).

Judy- I so feel your envy of the runners. I wish I was running alot more than I am (wait a minute, who said that?! There go those aliens again..... ;) ) but I am running way more than I used to be able to & it will just continue to improve! The same goes for you, at least we are getting out there & trying to do something about it. More than alot of people can say. Happy Birthday!
Howard-good luck with your marathon!
Christa-that is why I am doing all these races. I was never good at team sports, dont have the coordination to catch a ball, and this lets me just compete for me & do what I need to do.
Sunny-I just got my Billy Blanks Boot Camp DVD's & although I am still sore 2 days later I think he's going to be real good for me. The WATP tapes weren't challenging enough. He may be my new hero too. Take care of yourself & get better. Dont try to get out there too soon. :wizard:

well, sort of. :) I've been on the Dis for a couple of years, but just posted to the W.I.S.H. boards for the first time today. In replying to my post, TiffJ and chimera were very encouraging and invited me to join you on this thread, so here I am! Just a little background:
My name is Michael, and I live just south of Atlanta. I am a 35 year old husband and father of 4 beautiful dd. Mostly because of them, I decided a couple of months ago to get in shape. I have been very overweight and out of shape for the last 15 years. So, I started Weight Watchers, and have lost almost 30 pounds in just over 2 months! :woohoo:
As part of the weight loss process, I started walking/jogging. I am now up to 3 miles a day, at a pace of about 13 minutes a mile. I have just decided to run the 1/2 marathon at WDW this year, and I'm pumped! I plan to do a 4 mile race in June, a 10K in September, and a 1/2 marathon in October to prepare. I'm excited to have found a support group for my efforts!
Also, I'm sure many of you have done this for some time, so please give any advice you think will help me. Thanks!

See you at the 1/2!!! :cool1:

Congrats on the weight loss so far and I think your goal is awesome! I'm north of Atlanta and will also be running the half in January (want to run the full, but that's another story). Any chance the 10k you are planning on running is the one on Cobb Parkway in Smyrna?

I can't remember for sure, but the name of it is the Four Seasons Run for Research on September 16th. At least that's the plan for right now. I saw another 10K on the net, but the more I read about it, it looked like the course was more hilly than the one I plan to run, which is pretty much in downtown ATL, on 14th street.

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:
I had another stonker of a run yesterday. I didn't even make 2 miles. However, I think it was just because I ran too soon after I ate lunch, or ate too big of a lunch before my run. My stomach was getting all riled up, and I had to stop. I'm taking a rest day today. The princesses DD5 princess: and DD8 princess: are volunteering at a duathon today manning the water stop. Tomorrow is my first 10k in about 10 years. Wish me luck. I haven't had a good run since my 6 miler last Sunday, and I'm a little nervous about my legs.

Dave,
You're doing much better than me -- I took most of this week off as a rest week, I guess....I was going through a lot of what other people were talking about earlier this week, going through that time period where you start doubting yourself and just kind of sick of running.
I have a personal training session today -- I hope she is able to whip my attitude back into shape.
Have a good 10k run tomorrow --- I know you'll do great! I have my 10k on Memorial Day weekend and I'm getting pretty nervous about it! I wish the weather would straighten out, so I can train outside more - Oh well, what can you do? :confused3
Can't wait to hear about your experience at the 10k....I hope it's all flat land.

Folks,
downhill running is really for your joints. A slight incline of 0.5 to 1.5% is the best for your knees and ankles. The impact going downhill causes additional strain on the ligaments and tendons.

Hey Viking...interesting info on the downhill running. Perhaps that is why my hip joints bother me. I'm all hills....actually not really flat at all for most of my runs. SO it's up hill, down hill, up hill......Could be I need to get a treadmill so I can do some flatter runs a few times a week?! Ahhhh....don't ya' love this "free" sport!!!
Dave.....BEST OF LUCK with your race tomorrow :cheer2: . My running week was like yours and Jodi's....I had a good 6 miler then it was a bit rough since then. I think I even said it felt like quick-sand myself! The three of us all started training at almost the same time so I'm chalking it up to the natural progression of things. I was supposed to run 6 miles this morning...but my DD got sick and my other one had an early softball game so I haven't left yet. I really like to just get out there and get it done but I've got to wait. Hopefully I can squeeze it in when they get home from the game.

Since I've just started training, I had only been doing a maximum of 3 miles per day (6 days a week). Well, today, since I've decided to go all the way with this thing, I took a stab at 4 miles! And I did pretty well. Yesterday, I did my 3 miles in 39 minutes (13 min/mile) and today I did my 4 miles in 53 minutes (13:15 min/mile)! I was pumped! Since I plan to "run" my first race, a 4 miler, in about a month, I think I have my goal set: under 52 minutes. Wish me luck!

Christa and Tiffj ~ Thanks for the well WISHes for my marathon run tomorrow morning!
I am picking up my race packet today and then I am going out with the beautiful and talented Cam tonight and my DS for a carb-loading feast.
I can wait for this race to arrive... I am highly anticipating it (as I have for months) and a bit nervous I am afraid. I am not looking forward to post-marathon and the "what is next" question which is inevitable.
The "What's Next" is the Spring Lake 5 (miles) in Spring Lake, NJ this coming Memorial Day Weekend, followed by the Inaugural Disneyland Half-Marathon in September with Cam and many of you. Training for it should be fun!
Thanks again! I'll post my time as early as I can or Cam will post an update on my performance.

Dave,
I got the joke, but as you see for some people it was also useful info ;)
Here's another downhill-story I had to think of: We spent a vacation on the island of Fuerteventura, where the club we stayed at offered a 'Downhill-only' bike tour: They had a LandRover Defender with a trailer for eight bikes and could seat eight bikers in the vehicle. They then took the bikers up a pass and sent them down on teh bikes. At the bottom the bikers & bikes were picked up and up they went again - up to eight passes a day. Fuerteventura means strong winds in Spanish and it is located in the Atlantic Oceam due West of Morocco and can be hot like hell - so only lunatics drive their bikes uphill
BTW, we were there to do aerobics - in the open without a/c, but with a wonderful view across the sea. We did at least two hours each day for the two weeks we stayed there. We also spent a lot of time at the beach and also did some runs along the beach. The food a this club is so good that sport is mandatory - or you have to fly cargo on the way home :rotfl2:

Hello everyone! Got back a while ago from my 5k Race today....ran a personal best on the hilliest course I've experienced yet, came in with a 28:55!! I was so motivated that I signed up for a 10k (first one of those for me) on Memorial Day. If I keep this up I'm gonna need to join RA (Runners Anonymous...1st step is admitting you have an addiction...lol).
Anyway, hope everyone has a great weekend!! Go WISH team!
RA...My name is Christa and I am a..a...a....well..you see..a runner. :rotfl2:
