My family and I will be heading to the Philly Airport in a few hours for our flight to Orlando. We will be spending the night at my mom's place in Lake County, then will be heading to the port area on Friday. We will be stopping by The Perfect Gift to pay Shirley and Norm a visit, then we have a DISmeet planned for Grills at 5:30, followed by another meet around the pool at the Radisson Friday evening.
Can anyone guess what we'll be doing Saturday morning, that's right, biting at the bits to get to the DCL Terminal and on the Magic!!! :cheer2: :yay: :cheer2:
I'll be changing the name of this thread to "Live from the 5-13-06 Magic" once we board and get settled in!!!
I have also started a blog on my webpage at www.verandahman.com
Bye for now,
Andy :wave2:

Now that it is after midnight, I can say, we will be sailing tomorrow!!!
Our flight was late leaving Philly and we arrived an hour late in Orlando. I wrote in my journal during the flight, but that info is in my laptop, and I haven't hooked that up yet. I'm sitting here at my mom's using her computer. We are all very tired and getting ready for bed.
More to follow!!!

Late leaving Philly?? That is a surprise! LOL :rotfl2: That is one airport I try not to fly through, but I suppose if the price is right and if it was for a cruise, I would fly through it.

Thanks for the report--I love live reports!!
Leaving Phila--did your bags make it--that seems to be a big problem there.
Let us know how the Radisson is. We have stayed there before, but I have read some negatives recently here.
Enjoy every minute of your cruise!! We are all so jealous.

My mom is in a little community called Forest Hills(Lake County), it is just across the St. Johns River near Deland, Florida which is in Volusia County, and is about a 45 minute drive north of Orlando.

OH NO, I just got a call from my mom. They had to evacuate their plane! The fire in the engine light came on, but they said that there was no fire and the flight is going to be delayed because they have to clean something out. If ragdoll misses the DIS meet, their room # is 2060 if anyone wants to say Hi.
Hopefully they make it in time!!

We are now "LIVE" from the Magic. We had a very hairy start to our day and almost didn't get to board, I will explain more later. But the important thing is, we are aboard, had lunch at Parrot Cay, and that yummy orange mango soup, I had two bowls, plus a good supply of shrimp!!!
We were able to request our server from our first cruise back in August 2003, we will see Roberto at dinner tonight at 6pm. We have the LAP dining rotation.
A DISmeet is planned for 3pm at the Mickey pool, so I will be helding there in a few minutes.
More Later,

Good Early Morning from the Magic,
I'm going to try and catch up a bit from our first day. I still haven't even got back to my blog yet.
My DW and I went to the DISmeet by the Mickey slide at 3pm yesterday afternoon and met up with some other wonderful DIS'ers. Yes, ragdoll did make it to the meet at 3pm and told us about her adventure with the alarm on her plane. We've run into DrCavin and his wonderful family several times since Friday. We had a nice time meeting others at the meet as well. I know if I were to start listing all who were there I would miss someone, and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by leaving them out. Let me just say, it was fun finally getting to put faces to the names that I have been in touch with the past two months.
After the meet, we got ready for the muster drill. I must say, we really do like the new life jackets so much more then the older style. After the drill my family went back to our stateroom and watched from our verandah the last few passengers and luggage that was racing aboard at 4:55pm. I took a few photos and will post them later.
We had early dining and arrived for dinner at 6pm where Roberto was waiting for us, and showed us to our table #23, where we found the rest of our party already waiting for us. Roberto couldn't believe how much Angelina had changed in the past three years since he saw her last. It was so good to see him again!!! It was like seeing an old lost friend!!! Edgar was our assistant server and took excellent care of us. I was never at a loss for either water or iced tea during the meal. I ordered the Shrimp Medely, followed by the Tomato and Bail soup, then had the Herb Crusted Halibut, just for the "halibut" as my main course. I followed all that up with the White Chocolate Domes. We had some fun talk around the table during dinner, my niece Teri(Tericplus2) was sharing how overwhelmed she was being on the ship for the first time, she is having a ball onboard already. My BIL Larry(mommom&poppop0304) is also having a great time as well.
After dinner we made our way to the Welcome Aboard show, this is my 4th DCL cruise, but the first time I made it to this show. It was a lot of fun, and we had so many laughs. We saw John Charles and Mike Super do a little of their acts, and both were quite funny. Mike Super had a 7 year old boy come up on the stage to help him with a card trick, and the little boy upstaged Mike, it was so funny. The senior officers also were introduced by Captain Tom, and we did get to see Captain Thord come out with the others.
After the show, we headed back to the stateroom to change. My DW asked if I was going to go down to the Internet Cafe to post a message, but to her surprise I said, "No, I just want to fall into bed and sleep." Which is exactly what I did, and it's the reason I was up at 3am this morning, and down here at the Internet Cafe now, while DW, DD and Dmom are still sound asleep, LOL!!!
I really don't want to get into a lot of detail just now about why we almost didn't make it on the ship yesterday, but let's just say it involved a very good friend back in New Jersey, being able to get a very much needed document out of our safety deposit box from our bank, and having that document faxed to the terminal. We started our check-in at the terminal about 10:15 and finally got the all clear that we could board at 11:30. By 11:45 we were on our way to have our boarding photo taken with the other 8 members of our group, and a few moments later, our family name(s) were announced as we entered the Magic!!! OK, now I'm getting a bit misty-eyed here as I type this, so on to happier times, and let's get the party rolling!!!!!!!
My DD did go to the 411 at The Stack, but dear old dad was fast asleep when she returned, so I don't know how that went just yet. I'm sure she will share that with me later today.
I've got a few more messages to check, so, I'm going to wrap this up for now. I'll post back when I can.

Andy,
I do have a question for you. What is the best way to go about making arrangments to celebrate my husbands birthday onboard our cruise? Also how did you get so lucky to blow the horn on one of your cruises? I have been trying to get my husband to go on a cruise for 10 years and he finally gave in and agreed to go on one. And of course it had to be Disney since we LOVE Disney. I would like to make our trip as special as possible. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. We leave on the Wonder on June 1.

I saw your mom and dad at breakfast this morning at Topsiders. I gave your mom your Mother's Day greeting and she was smiling from ear to ear. She also said to me, "IF" you get online, can you please thank my DD, DS and grandkids for the lovely Mother's Day gift I found in my stateroom." Again, she was smiling from ear to ear when she was making this request.
My DW is dropping some pillowcases off at Guest Services for me, so it gave me a few minutes to check-in.
I did get the wireless plan for myself so I can post some "LIVE" photos from the ship as well. I will be doing that from time to time.

I think this is really wonderful for you, but please don't take this wrong....since you and your lovely wife have already had the honor of going on the bridge, wouldn't it be nice to ask the Captain's assistant to please find a family with a child or two who would be thrilled to get to do this? Maybe they know of a family who has a child with disabilities, or one who has gone through some kind of hardship??

I went back and changed the wording in my previous post. I didn't mean for it to sound like we were "just" selected on this cruise to do the same thing. We were selected for this during our January 2005 cruise. I'm sorry if I gave the impression that we were selected to do it again on this cruise. I was just replying to the other posters question, that we did not ask for this honor to be given to us the first time, and that we were randomly selected.

I forgot to mention earlier that Stephan is our Head Server and Sean is our Stateroom Host.
The weather has been perfect thus far. I think we had maybe a 30 seconds of rain yesterday afternoon while we were eating lunch at Goofy's Galley.
My DW, DD, and Dmom went to see a movie in the Buena Vista Theatre yesterday afternoon, while I went back to the cabin and took a little nap. I woke up at 3am yesterday morning and couldn't get back to sleep, so an afternoon nap was really needed.
We had Formal Night in Animator's Pallete. I selected the Baked Honey Glazed Salmon and was that ever tender and tasty. To top off my meal, I went with the Chocolate and Peanut Butter Pie. After dinner we went to see the Golden Mickey's show. This was the first time my mom got to see it, and she really enjoyed it. We will be seeing Twice Charmed tonight, and this will be our first time to see this show.
We are all having a wonderful time aboard as usual and tomorrow we dock at St. Maarten, we don't have any excursions planned so I'm not sure what we will be doing tomorrow at this point. I'm in the Internet Cafe at the moment, but I am going to try and post another picture or two with my laptop later. I got the unlimited service mainly for my DD so she could keep in touch with her friends that are cat-sitting her cat.
I want to check a few more messages, so I'm signing off for now, "Live from the Magic!!!"

I just posted this to My Blog and wanted to add a copy here, this is a more detailed report from Mother's Day.
Sunday May 14, 2006--Mother’s Day
I forgot to mention earlier that our Head Server is Stefan and our room host is Sean from Jamaica . All the CM’s have been taking excellent care of us.
My mom got to have her Mother’s Day breakfast with her two oldest children and their spouses at Topsiders this morning. I saw fellow DIS’er ragdoll at breakfast and gave her a message from her daughter back home in Ohio.
Today was a day of relaxation, well for the most part anyway.
Hazel and I spent some time at Shutters and bought a copy of our embarkation group photo, then we strolled over to Mickey’s Mates and Treasure Ketch to window shop. While Hazel was dropping some pillowcases off at Guest Services to be signed by the characters, I went to the Internet Café and checked on the “Live” from the Magic thread.
The four of us went up to Goofy’s Galley for lunch. After lunch Hazel, Angelina and my mom went to see a movie in the Buena Vista Theatre, while I went back to our stateroom, went out on the verandah, and took a nap. I had been up since 3am, so a nap was much needed. I did manage to get a little too much on my legs.
Tonight was Formal Night and the Golden Mickey’s show. For dinner tonight I selected the Baked Stuff Tomato, Caesar Salad, Baked Honey Glazed Salmon, followed by a slice of Chocolate and Peanut Butter Pie. My niece Teri, her husband Eric, and their friends Greg and Michele went to Palo for dinner.
After dinner we went to see the Golden Mickey’s show. The only downer at the show was the people that were taking flash photography during the show, even though that it was announced that flash photography was “NOT” permitted. It only took one person to start, then about 15 others joined in taking flash photos.
We are all now back in our stateroom. While I am typing in my journal, Angelina and my mom are watching “The Producers” on TV, and Hazel is reading.
The weather has been absolutely wonderful, except for the 30 seconds of rain drops we had while eating lunch on deck 9. It reminded me of the Castaway Cay commercial for DCL, also the seas have been very calm.
I need to get this entry posted to the live thread, and will do it soon.

Hi Andy,
I am enjoying your report so very much. I can hardly wait for our first time on the Magic.
I hate to bother you, but your server Roberto sounds fantastic. We also have a group of 12 we are traveling with. How would I go about requesting him as our server? Or is it to late since we cruise in 68 days? Any help on this would be appreciated.
Enjoy the rest of your cruise,

Andy,
Roberto was so funny. Every night he would ask me what I wanted for dessert and then ask my husband what else I wanted for dessert. He figured out pretty quickly that I would be sampling both items. One evening we decided to share the Deep Dish Apple Pie and Roberto brought a Baked Alaska also, he thought that my DH needed it.
He also delivered a lot of room service on the first night. Almost everyone left dinner early due to the rough seas and he took their dinners to their rooms.
Both he and Felipe were awesome. We had 11 at our table and they also had a table of 12, but they were so attentive. My son spilled my daughters drink one evening and I think that they were there to clean it up before the glass actually hit the table.
ENJOY!! Wish I was there with you!!

We weren't even sure if Roberto was onboard when we got on the ship. We asked Andrew who served us our drinks in Parrot Cay on Saturday. When we found out that Roberto was here, we went and made the request.
Roberto will be leaving for his next vacation on July 8th.
We went and saw "8 Below" this afternoon.
I will be adding a longer report later, as I have to send it from my laptop.

I've got yesterday's journal entry ready in my laptop and I will be posting that shortly. We are approaching St. Maarten and should be docking soon.
I think our group of DIS'ers on this cruise is more on the quiet side Lampy, LOL!!!
I did add a note in my journal entry that I only saw Pikey for mere seconds the other night at dinner, but he was gone as quickly as he arrived. I didn't have a chance to speak with him.
The 250 minutes of wireless internet service is $100.00, that's why I only use that to post photos with my journal reports.

From Andys Blog....."As I type this, we have waves at only 1 to 4 feet, and we should be getting ready to sail past Puerto Rico in a little while We are only 252 nautical miles from St. Maarten, traveling at 16.9 knots per hour. The temperature is 75*F, of course, by the time I post this, we will probably already be docked at St. Maarten."
ANDY!!!!! "Nautical miles", "16.9 knots", "sail past Puerto Rico"......now that gave me some goose bumps....talk about flashbacks!!!! Yes Flo, I did get two packages. One was put in my mom's name and the other I have in my name.
Well, I had a new adventure this morning. I made a trip to see the ship's doc. My sore throat wasn't getting any better and I wanted to see what the problem was. The doc told me that I have Laryngitis(sp) and possibly an ulcer which is causing the severe pain, I was just happy to hear it wasn't strep throat!!! I'm also glad we didn't have any shore excursions planned for today.
DW is up in our room trying to get sleeping beauty up so Sean can get our room ready for the day.
The other members of my family, that we are traveling with, all went ashore after breakfast. After being at sea for 2 and 1/2 days, they couldn't wait to get on dry ground again!!!
It will be a nice relaxing day for me onboard, going to meet up with DW, DD and Dmom on deck 9 very shortly for lunch, something soft and cool for me!!! LOL!!!

Hi Andy. Sorry the sore throat sent you to the doctor, but lots of ice cream will make it better and also cold mango soup!! You'll have to let us know what it was like staying on the ship all day while in port. DH and I are thinking of doing that in Cozumel in September. Hope you feel better soon!

Being on the Magic - even virtually - is enough to cure anything - I had a headache a while ago and started reading this Live on the Magic thread and now my headache is gone. Must be all the sea air!
Andy - hope you're feeling better so you can enjoy the Pirates party (it's tonight, right?). And I was thinking that the reason it was so cold in the Buena Vista Theater was that it was EIGHT BELOW! They had to get the temp set so you could fully experience the movie - a 4-d effect, KWIM?
We sailed with Captain Tom and Rachel as the Cruise Director. If you get a chance to say hi to Pikey from all his DISBoard fans, he'll know :)

Hi Andy,
Hope you are enjoying yourself - I am really enjoying your blog - and love the pics!
Maybe some salt water gargling would help the throat? Or, going with the Lampy - method perhaps you could gargle rum? Captain Morgan perhaps - it is Pirate Night after all!!! Worst case scenario if you drink enough you'll likely forget your throat hurts - at least until tomorrow morning LOL. Hope you are feeling better - take care. :sunny:

YW, but that was actually the work of DH. :) I was busy quizzing DD on her spelling words...quite the challenge this week. We were in St. Maarten in 12/05 & used the same dock as in 12/03. It is between two hills. You have to look very closely in that picture but the dock is actually in front of the Magic. There were a few shops once you passed thru the gates.

Good Morning from St. Thomas,
My family and I left our cabin at 7:15am for the immigration check and was on our way out of the Walt Disney Theatre by 7:30am, we then went and had some breakfast.
My DW and DD went back to the cabin to get some more shut-eye as we had a late night last night. My Dmom went out on our verandah to read, so I came down to deck 3 to check my messages. I do have another installment to add from my journal, with a few pics from yesterday, I will be working on getting that posted in a little bit.
Don't feel bad, I had trouble getting into my blog myself yesterday. It took me a couple of tries, but I finally got in.
We will be staying onboard again today. It was so nice relaxing around the nearly empty pool yesterday, I think that's where we will be spending our early afternoon.
Pikey is behind me in the Promenade Lounge making announcements for those going on the Megan's Bay excursion. He is leading the group in song about going through immigration. I'll see if I can say a quick hello for everyone before he leaves the lounge.

Well, after reading all of this I am really missing the ships and the beautiful Islands :sad2: . So, today I decided to take a drive down to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio and spend the day at Castaway Bay. :moped: My kids loved it, but it wasn't even close to the Islands. They only had the Peanuts there too, nothing like the Disney characters. :sad2: Oh well, we still had fun and it helped me get my mind off cruising for a little bit. I think I'll go again this weekend. :rotfl:

Thanks for letting me live the magic through your posts! We are going on our second DCL cruise in September and four seems to be an eternity right now! Here's for hoping your throat feels better. My husband is often victim of ulcers in the very back of his mouth/top of his throat area. They are PAINFUL (and make you feel like you have a soar throat, ear ache, tooth ache and mouth ache all at once). He is impressed that you are eating at all if you have something similar **even the ice cream**. Take care of yourself and ENJOY the MAGIC!!
ANYONE BUT ANDY (don't want to bug him with silly "Can I do this questions" while he is on the Magic;) )...can anyone just drop off a pillow case or a shirt to be signed by the characters? I would love to do that for my boys as as surprise to give them as we drive home (it's always a bummer for all of us to leave anything Disney).
THANKS! :goodvibes :cloud9: :goodvibes

jaycns,
I would suggest if you want to drop off pillowcases or t-shirts off at Guest Services to be signed by the characters, do it very early in the cruise. We dropped off 4 pillowcases (for another DIS'er) to be signed on Sunday morning and were told they will be ready by Friday evening. I know quite a few DIS'ers from our group were dropping things off to be signed during this cruise.
You can tell your DH that even the ice cream "burns" going down, but it is starting to feel a bit better. I was able to eat more at dinner last night, then I have eaten since we boarded, so there is still hope yet, LOL!!! Tonight is lobster tail night!!!
I haven't written anything in my journal from yesterday as of yet. Hazel and I were out later than usual last evening, and I usually did my journal writing before retiring for the night. By the time we got back to our room last night, I went staright to bed. I still have to go through my pics from yesterday and see what I want to add in today's entry as well. I hope to be able to post something soon.

We were originally going on your cruise, we had booked a year in advance. In August this past year our 2nd story AC unit decided to go completely out, so we had to make a choice go on cruise or get a new AC unit. So, of course since we live here in FL we had to get the new AC unit. :cool1: :sunny:

Andy - you deserve another week on board after feeling so crummy. I'd definitely be looking to re-book :)
Funny story about the cream of wheat -- our first morning having breakfast at Topsiders, I was excited because they had grits on the line, but when I went to spoon it up, I saw they were really really runny - and that's when it dawned on me, that wasn't grits, it was cream of wheat. I like cream of wheat ok, but I like grits better. Oh well. I'm a southern girl at heart :)

DH has a bit of advice for you...LOTS of creamy frozen blends from the lounge/bar before dinner(little does he think about the tab that would run you by the end of your trip) but seriously, he swears that either the cold will numb you or the alcohol will numb you and either way...the food will go down much much smoother! Good Morning from the Magic,
It's Friday morning, so that means it is Castaway Cay Day!!! We are finally getting off the ship today to enjoy some time on the beach.
My DD is scheduled to take the BBR with my niece Teri, her DH Eric, and their friends Greg and Michele. I opted out this time around and decided to just take it easy and relax on the beach with my DW.
Even with the illness, this has still been a most memorable cruise, just seeing the faces of my family members who are witnessing this cruise for the first time has been priceless for me!!!
I just entered Thursday's Journal Report with Photos (http://www.verandahman.com/myblog.htm?blogentryid=0) into my blog, so for those who are interested you can go there and read it.
We should be arriving at Castaway Cay soon, the sky looks a little cloudy, but hopefully, we will have a very nice day onshore!!!

Loving the trip report "live" - it's so wonderful. Do always have to order two lobster tails ahead? I think my husband would love that. Of course, I could order it and give him mine - sorry -yuck! Enjoy your day and tonight! Thanks again for all your effort and time you took to write the reports.

YesGrumpy, you don't have to preorder the lobster. I ordered 2 tails that night with no problem. :)
Andy, I guess this means that you are going to have to try to get a "before" picture of the lava cake on another cruise. ;) Didn't the last one have a bite missing too? :)

Andy,
Thank you for relaying the message to me from my parents, you are too sweet!!! Speaking of sweet... warm chocolate lava cake..... boy that sounds really good to me right now. I am now 13 weeks pregnant and the cravings for pickles and chocolate have already started, no I don't want to eat them together!!!! ;) :goodvibes
Enjoy the day at Castaway Cay, I wish I was there that is one of my most favorite parts (that and days at sea). :thumbsup2

That's one thing that is great about Disney cruises, you can order all the food you want!
Enjoy CC today Andy, I hope the weather's perfect. I'm sure my parents will be on the adult beach in a hammock most of the day.
I miss my parents, so do the kids, they keep asking where papa and
goo(grandma) are. Can't wait to pick them up tomorrow. Although, I'm sure they would rather be there. :rotfl:
Enjoy the day. Thanks again Andy!

I've got to make this quick as we are getting ready for dinner. We just arrived back from our visit to the bridge. We shared our visit to the bridge with two other families, each family got to get a chance to have their photo taken with Captain Tom and Captain Mickey. Below is our group photo.

:wave2: Hey Verandah Man! It seems like just yesterday that I read about you booking this cruise! I am so glad that your throat got better and you were able to really enjoy the food! We were on the "Magic" in December for the first time, but we aren't sure when we will return! Our oldest son graduates high school tomorrow, and I am taking he and two of his friends on a Carnival cruise on Sunday. His friends have never been on a cruise, so they have no other to compare. The hardest thing for me will be looking over at the "Wonder", wishing I was sailing on her! This happened when I was on the Mariner and the Glory in the last few years! Every time I turned around, there was DCL!!!
Getting back to the point...I have enjoyed reading and looking at your pictures this week! You and Shirley have been so helpful to many here! Have a great night and a safe trip back home!

Andy, really enjoyed reading your posts and blog ::yes::
I have a question about the 'special' birthday cakes you arranged for. We will probably be having a DIS celebration lunch (many birthdays, anniversaries, a vow renewal AND a wedding in our group) on our second sea day. I'd love to be able to arrange for a 'real' cake or two. How far in advance did you have to arrange for the cake? Was there a choice of flavor/frosting? Was there a charge?
thanks for your help!

I haven't taken the time to read the posts that were made to this thread since I posted early this morning. I will go back and read them over the weekend as we have been very busy today. I just spent the last hour writing Friday's Castaway Cay Journal Entry (http://www.verandahman.com/myblog.htm?blogentryid=0) into my blog. I also added 12 photos that were taken today. No one got to sound the horn on this trip to the bridge, but my family members didn't care about that, they were just so excited for the invitation, and to see Captain Mickey there, with Captain Tom, was icing on the cake.
OK, we have a very busy morning ahead of us, so I'm going to get back to our stateroom and get some much needed shut-eye.
I hope you have enjoyed traveling with my family this past week.
Bye For Now :wave2:

It's 5:15am on Saturday morning, the ship is now turning and preparing to dock at the DCL Terminal, yes in just a couple of hours we will have to debark this magical ship so that the next set of guests can board. Everyone take good care of "OUR" girl. We most likely won't be cruising on the Magic until 2008. Angelina has already put in a request that she would like a cruise for her high school graduation gift, a gift, I will be happy to give!!! :goodvibes
It's been fun this week, now it's time to get myself prepared to go back to the real world!!!
To any of the DCL CM's who might be reading this,
"THANKS SO MUCH" for the past week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome home Andy, well almost. The worst day of any cruise on the Magic is that day you have leave. They always drag us off screamig and kicking. I enjoyed reading your posts. We'll be paying off our September cruise soon, which will make number six closer to a reality! Reading your posts really made me long for the Magic and the high seas. So glad you had a great trip and wishing a safe one back from Florida, from a fellow Garden Stater.

Andy - thanks so much for taking the time out of your vacation to share it will all of us. A live report is so much fun to keep up with - makes the waiting that us folks on land are doing go a bit faster. I am sorry you were not feeling well at the beginning of your cruise but glad that by the end you were able to enjoy your mealtimes.
Sorry your trip is over but hope you arrived home safe and sound with a happy heart full of many MAGICal memories.

Andy - your comment about taking Angelina on a cruise for her graduation gave me goose bumps.
She certainly has grown up to become a very beautiful lady. Can't believe she will be graduating in 2008. Wow.
And thanks for your posts. Always nice to know Verandah Man has brought the Magic back home safely.
