Participants: DH aka BlueManlyGuy(age 42)
me aka PinkGirlyGirl (age haha)
We decided to be "mean parents" this trip and leave our boys at home with Grandma. :teeth:
Trip Dates: May 3-8, 2006
Hotel: Caribbean Beach Resort (Barbados)
Weather: GORGEOUS and SUNNY the entire trip - mid 90's :sunny:
I decided to fly my mom up from Florida (!) to stay with my boys for the week while we were gone. Her flight came in at 9:45 a.m. on 5/3 so we met her at the airport, handed over the car keys and the kids :) and DH and I then checked in for our 11:30 a.m. flight for the same morning. I'm one of those moms that really hates to say goodbye to her kids (makes my cry even though two of them are teenagers) but once I'm on the plane - woo hoo! LOL!
Most people cry when they pass under the Disney gates or when they see the Castle for the first time. I always cry upon landing at MCO when I catch my first glimpse of a PALM TREE! I'm a Southern girl at heart and the sight of a palm tree is like coming home. :) Of course, I cried again passing under the Disney gates, and again when walking out onto Main Street, and again when watching Wishes.... lol!
Magical Express was wonderful. We touched down at 2:30 right on time, and we were checking in at our hotel at 3:30! Now being a Dis "pro", I *should have known* not to expect my bags for 3 hours after landing and I *should have prepared* myself, but sadly I did not. So..... where was my make-up? In my checked bag! Where were my "flat sandals" to wear to the park? In my checked bag! We waited around the resort for 2 hours for the bags until I finally gave up. I went to the parks without my make-up AND I went to the parks in high-heeled sandals!! Yes, I was one of those ladies that you shake your head at and wonder "what are they thinking wearing THOSE?" LOL!
Magic Kingdom was our first stop that evening. Arrived at the park around 6:00 pm, I think. Our first stop was VMK Central (I know, pathetic!!) But I wanted to make some new characters to get black Mickey ears for friends. VMK was down at the time (no surprise there!) so we meandered around the park, not really riding much, just soaking up the atmosphere. We did ride Big Thunder Mountain a couple of times (no lines which was surprising) and Haunted Mansion. Then we headed back to Main Street for ice cream and waited around for Wishes to begin. Wishes is my favorite night time show at WDW - it gets me very time...
We were on the Dining Plan this trip. While waiting around for our bags, we just picked up 2 cheeseburgers at the CBR food court using 2 counter service credits.
I hobbled back to the bus stop and then all the way back to the room; yeah, I was really crying by that point! :rotfl2:
Edited to add photo of DH patiently waiting for my shoes to show up....

LOL So that is why people are wearing high heals in the parks....late luggage! Enjoying it so far....

How was the resort?
Caribbean Beach Resort was a beautiful resort and the landscaping was gorgeous (even the air along the pathways smelled sweet!). But it was way too large for me to enjoy. We stayed in Barbados, and although it wasn't too long of a walk to the food court or the bus stop or the pool (though it sure was with high heels!!), I could not for the life of me get a handle on the layout. :confused3 I was forever taking the wrong staircase down from our room or taking the wrong path to wherever I was going... Even after being there for 6 days, I was still totally lost. My DH had no problem with it, but it was just too confusing for me. And people really aren't kidding here on the DIS when they say that resort is HUGE!
We also had a couple of problems with the busses. One morning in particular we waited close to an hour for an MGM bus to come along. We saw THREE of each of the other park buses, but no MGM, until DH finally called to complain.
Any other questions?

Actually Janice it is more not nice than you realize... I actually didn't tell her correct age.. this of course means that if either of us does give the right age how will anybody know for sure? :confused3
Besides, assuming she posts a picture that includes herself, you would never believe she is 45 anyway... If I were her, I'd let people believe I was 45 and have them say, WOW she looks great for 45! :teeth:
Let's just say, I never robbed a cradle in my life and leave it at that (is 29 still considered robbing the cradle if you are over 40?). :stir:

I'm heading down to stay at the CBR in August,
Did you eat at Shutters? if so did you need reservations? and how was the food?
Also, i'm going to need to buy milk and juice for the kids, can you buy any creamcheese or butter at the resort to use in the room? Do you know exactly what you can buy besides milk/juice - beverages?
thanx
Oh, how were the pools?
I'm staying in the preferred bldg - since i heard it was so so big!!

Lisa, I'm sorry I'm not going to be much help to you here... But we really didn't spend much time at the resort. We went to the food court ONCE on our first day, so I don't remember what you can buy exactly. I know if you are on the dining plan, they have a huge selection of pastries, fruit, cookies, drinks, etc. that you can get with a snack credit.
And no, we didn't eat at Shutters either. :( When we walked by, it looked rather empty, so I'm guessing you do not need an advanced dining reservation.
The main pool is very small and was crowded. Had a hard time finding lounge chairs there. Each village has their own quiet pool, and that was more preferable to us.
Hope this helps a little!

All I can say is weak... weak... weak... weak...
The grey can be gotten rid of as most ladies know all too well... Care to comment? How about we go on the honor system here... the only people who are allowed to comment further on the topic are the ones who don't dye their hair... That should put all the future comments back on the topic of the thread... Any confessions? Any questions?
I have no problem looking older than my lovely bride... I want her to feel good.
(By the way, didn't like how that sounds... I am older than her... Will not say how much though.)
Daviedude: I agree, she definitely still looks mid to early thirties... :wave2:
And Pink: Re-check Daviedude's post... he said "I am with you Threeboysdad, there is no way she is 45."
In other words, I am obviously more balanced in my comments than some... :cheer2:
50? Gee at least make it believable or get your eyes checked. Oops forgot, eyesite starts to fail before grey hair comes...

Hmmm.... You can call me 45 on a PUBLIC internet forum, but when someone calls you 50, you can't take it? ;)
OK, couldn't resist.... going back to writing my trip report again...
