Yesterday was my boyfriends birthday and he organised a sushi party , and at dessert, he served us a fortune cookie. Everybodies cookie read" You will witness a proposition" , and mine read "You will receive a proposition". By the time I read it , he was on one knee with a little black box in his hand ! I then understood what was happening. Everybody around the table were really surprised too ! It was amazing and I could only say yes ! After 8 years together , he decided to make an honest guy of me !
I felt really lucky ( I still feel it) to live in a country that alowes me to live this incredible event and I am very happy to share this with all the people I spend a lot of time discussing with on the DIS. Even with Joepcotrock !

Not really ! :)
But he is very imaginative when it come to organizing surprise parties and stuff like that.
The engagement ring he got me is beautifull: it is stainless steel with half of it shinny and the other half frosted ( I hope the frosted part does not represent me !)

it will mostly be at the end of august or labor day weekend. it will be a backyard wedding. Our backyard , of course, and the invitation will say: dont forget your bathing suit !
I plan on cooking a whole pork and do some of the cooking myself , and I am preparing a surprse for Sylvain , my man: with some singer friends of ours , I will sing some exerpt of RENT , since it is one of our favorite musical and has a special place in our heart since we run an AIDS foundation toghether.
But all this took place yesterday and we did not have time to plan to much yet !
Oh , and my sister who is a lawyer might be our celebrant !

Toto, that sounds like some great plans! And that also means the wedding is comming up soon! I'm sure the time will fly right by.
It is wonderful that your sister might be able to officiate! That would be a great family connection. The man we had was great, but I must say, if I knew about Viki back then she would have been making a trip up to Montreal. :)

Thank you ! Are plans are evolving and the date is set for august 26th. My sister told us that now , in Québec , anyone can be a celebrant,( there are guides lines too complicated to express here) so we changed that part of the plan so that it would be someone significant for both Sylvain and I, someone who had an history with both of us, and our choice came down to ...our massage therapist !
To make a long story short , this guy became a friend of ours, and he is a very spiritual person ( and a party animal). I dont want a religious wedding since I dont belong to any religion and I am not religious, but I like to think of my self as a spiritual person , so I want this aspect of marriage to be present. I will post more as we go along !!!!!

A lttle up-date:
We now have a celebrant. It will be our frien Ivan who is Sylvains best friend and who introduced us 8 years ago on gaypride.
The ceremony will be held under the pear tree in our backyard. We had to cut hte guest list to about 45 due to space (if it rains the whole thing moves inside!) I am thinking of inviting the people left out for the party after the meal.I hope the will understand our constraint)
My friends Linda and Martin have agreed to sing at the ceremony ( one of the songs will probably be "True colors" by Cindy Laupers)
We are now in the process of filling all the legal papers for the wedding. I got scared because , in my province we have civil union and marriage and it was not clear if marrige was only for opposite sex wedding. Civil union was introduced in the province before the Governement of Canada recogcnise same sex wedding. Once it did , they kept civil union and added that marriage was for everyone. I was a bit scarred , but now I am fine !
I will keep you posted ! :thumbsup2

Thank you all !
Not everything is rosy ! The minority conservatve governement feels that the vote for this law was not a free vote ( meaning everybody had to vot according to there parties lines) Mr harper now want to go for another vote, a free vote where peopel would vote according to there concsience.
He will probably loose anyway , simce his party is a minority party , but still , he restart the whole thing , probably in order to be in the good graces of Mr Bush. This would be in the fall , so after my wedding , so it wont change anything for me ( I hope)
Just to keeep people posted , our celebrant as been recognised by the governement ( Ivan , my futue husband's best friend and the guy who presented us) Our respective mothers will walk us down the isle, our two staight best friends will be our best man , my brother will be the MC of the wedding , my sister and sylvain's brother will both prepare a special text to be read during the ceremony , my friend Linda and my friend Martin will sing ( we dont know what yet) and Sylvains sister will do a special something where we will burn wishes people will have written for us so that everybody will soak in our wishes ( hard to explain , it sounds weird , but I have difficulty explaining it) My goddaughter and Sylvains godson will bring us our rings , once evrybody in attendance will have put them on. My father will be my witness and Sylvains other godson will be his.
All this will take place in our backyard, under our pear tree with about 48 friends and family. After the meal ( a whole pig and a whole lamb cooked over coal) , about 25 other friends will join us for cake and...party ! ( We dont have enough place to have so many people for the sit down meal and the ceremony , in case it rains , evrything has to be inside !)
So , so far , this is what is going to happen on august the 26th !

toto2 that sounds so beautiful! Could you rent a canopy in case of rain? You could have it set up in the back yard, and if it rains, no problem. If it's hot and sunny you'd have shade.
I really love the part about the Moms.
You have designed a very meaningful ceremony. You'll take photos and share them with us, yes? :Pinkbounc

07-05-2006, 08:19 AM
Of course I will share pictures with you guys !
We though about the canopy and my future husband is against it (I keep on asking and suggseting.) But august 26th is always beautifull and sunny , so no problem ! :thumbsup2
Sylvain's father died when he was very young and was raised by his mother who never remarried , so she had a big influence on him , so this is where the idea came from , about our mother's giving us !

Awww, that's really nice. About the Moms I mean, not about Sylvain's Da passing.
No canopy huh? Well then! Pixie dust to you for a sunny, warm day!
Have you decided on the color of the suits/tuxs you will be wearing? Will you have flowers? On the lapel, carried? Moms? (Flowers, not carried)! LOL!
It just sounds so very romantic! :groom:

A little update , as promised !
Today , at work , my colleges gave me a big card , signed by all the employes ( 125 in all) even the muslim one ! With it a little treasure chest containing $200 collected from everyone !!!! It was very touching ! A lot of us , including me were crying. They asked me to say some thing , so I had to say that I was very touched and felt very lucky that my non traditional ( even if legal) marriage touched so many people at my work place and that I was priviledge to work with all of them ( more crying!)
Friday will be our tuxedo mesurement and we are starting the planing for the renting of tables , chair china etc. All those .57 cent fork add-up !!!!!
more to come !
