I am going to buy a couple of guinea pigs we are going tonight to buy the hutch. We have had hamsters but never had guineas has anyone any good tips. I must be mad as DD wants them but muggins here will end up cleaning them out and looking after them just like the 2 hamsters we had and the cats.

I love guinea pigs, be aware they live for years! I thought they had a lifespan of 2 -3 yaers and ours lived for 5!
We made the mistake of getting a boy and girl and before you knew it we had 20.
My DD got them when she was about 9 however she never ever looked at them because she said they were boring. Each of ours had a distinct personality, loved dandelion leaves and broccoli- but never feed them lettuce - their dijestive system can`t cope!

You're a good mum - I've always refused to allow my DD's furry animals and they had to make do with sea monkies and fish (guess who looked after them and is currently the sole carer for Fletch the goldfish). Everyone I know who has had them kept a rabbit with them for company so I always thought GP's don't get on. Anyway, happy cage cleaning

I was always made to look after the guinea pig (Guinness!) and the fish. We had Scully, Mulder (who was eaten by Scully one night!), Obi Wan and Richey! I loved my guinea pig but like Meryl said they do live for years - I think ours was 8!!

Hi

My best friends sister breeds GP's so I know a little bit.
Your right to buy 2...GP's thrieve in company and get lonely if they are alone!!. I was told its best to feed them on an evening (not sure why!!)
GP's can be really loving animals so you need to handle them on a regular basis and do it from the start....my friends has an obsticle course for her 2 GP's and they actually jump over little jumps!! :rotfl2:
