I'm home, I'm tired...full race report with photos later :thumbsup2

As usual, I forgot to turn off the Garmin when I crossed the finish, so my Garmin time of 2:07:46 includes the time from the finish line, getting my medal and browsing the food offerings. I'm pretty pleased with the time overall...I believe that works out to a 13:23 pace but that's with Garmin distance of 9.55. Much better than the half and certainly better than I expected since I didn't train like I'd hoped. The big new is DD13 finished 6th in her age group...her time was somewhere in the neighborhood of 1:56. Can't wait til official results are posted! :cool1:

Congrats to all of the Minnie athletes! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: I am looking forward to your race report(s).

I am a little concerned today. Concerned enough anyways that I did not participate in the 2nd largest event in the area. I did 4 miles yesterday morning, and about mile 2.5 or so my left knee began to hurt along the front/inside area right near the kneecap. I iced it after the run, but it was painful enough that I did not sign up or run in either the 5k or the 10k this morning. Possibly related is the fact that my big toe on my left foot is sore also. I can push down on the toe fine, it hurts when I try lifting it--if that makes sense. I plan on taking it easy for the next few days or so and doing the whole RICE thing. Any other thoughts/suggestions? Thanks!

Paul

I am home from the Minnie as well. I feel pretty good, but I did not have a camera with me so I have no pictures.

I was a big slacker in the training department so my goal was to finish without being picked up

My times were

Official Chip Pace
2:14:05 2:14:04 14:23.0

Not fast, but I finished and got to church before it started this morning (we were celebrating my FIL's 25th year as Pastor of the Church, so it was a big deal and I almost skipped the Minnie to make sure I would be there for it).

It was a lot of fun once we got into MGM, there was LOTS of music on the "boring" parts of the course. I thought it was a pretty good race! They could have used a couple more Porta Potties along the way!

Hi Everyone,

Did a 5k run today on the threadmill with a .5 incline, at a 5.5 pace - took me approx. 33.37 minutes; although I could have written that down wrong....I was more focused on the min/mile which was 10.54 min/mile.

This week is my first official 5k (this coming Saturday) ---I'm very excited to see how I will do, however, I don't think I will be able to complete it at my personal goal time of under 30 minutes ---I'll be happy if I complete it in 30 though :goodvibes Just kidding - I will have to see how I feel that day.

I can't wait to hear all of the reports from Minnie ---I hope there are pictures :teeth:

Dena --- how was your 5k?

Gotta go,

Jodi

I ran the Broad Street Run (10 miler) this morning on a beautiful day in Phialdelphia, PA. I was attempting to run a 1:15 or better, but having slept only 2 hours last night and having eaten something that did not agree with me, I was a little over that with a 1:16:55. A funny thing happened on the way to the finish line too. Right after mile 6 the former Mayor of Philadelphia and now Governor of Pennsylvania was high fiven runners - I was one of these - and about 100 yards after I high fived him I left the course and brought breakfast back up and out. I got back to running and then at 8 miles it happened again. All in all I am happy with the race but think it is about time I had a race where the GI is not fighting me worse than the course. :lmao:

Christy! I remember you debating on whether or not to give up the Minnie. I'm soooo glad that today worked out so well for you and that you were able to make both events ok. :cool1:

I'm back from the Minnie, too - it was awesome!!! I'll do more of a race report tomorrow when I am awake - we were up at 4:30am, and even after a nap, my brain is not fully functioning! ;) I did get a bunch of pictures and will post some as soon as they are downloaded. It was pretty foggy for the first half, so I'm not sure how many came out. There were 5 characters (all women) on the course, so I definitely had to get pics with them, as well as pics with some of the flower and garden stuff, by the hat, by the street in MGM, etc... Even after all my stops for photo ops, I still finished in 2:16 (14:40 pace.) :woohoo:

Off to sleep! Congrats to all our racers this weekend!!!

Another one home from the Minnie and very tired! Yesterday was my first 5K ever, and I'm hooked! It was so much fun - of course, running my first 5K at WDW had to be fun, but I had a great time. I haven't checked my official time yet - I clocked it at around 38:40, which is so much better than I expected. I did the first mile at 12:48 and almost fell over when I looked at my watch!

It was great seeing everybody at EoS - more later on the whole weekend and everything we managed to do (4 parks in 2 days, believe it or not!). Now I'm going to register for Race for the Cure in June (well, tomorrow morning - I've ha a killer migraine all day, and we've been in the car for 10 hours, and I'm going to bed.)

I can honestly say that you guys are the ONLY reason I did my 5k this weekend.

The morning started off with one too many hits of the snooze button. We woke up way late. The thought of having to rush on top of the dreadful feelings and anxiety that I already had about this one convinced me that I was just going to skip it. But, as I laid there in bed thoughts of encouragement from you guys would not let me go back to sleep. I knew that this race was something I had to do. Not because of the challenge of the distance, but I had to fight those demons. The demons of not being good enough, pretty enough, skinny enough to run in front of my hometown. People in this town talk and this race could be committing social suicide. I was terrified.

We got to the race and as expected I couldn't find a single person I thought I could beat. This is a beach town where most everyone keeps themselves beach body ready. I made my dh take my pulse my heart was beating so fast. It just all seemed surreal to see people from high school again and to know I was about to line up next to them. To run. Unreal.

DH and I started in the middle of the pack. I figured it would at least let me have a few people behind me for a minute or so! Then we were off. The sun was hot, the ocean air was humid, and the course turned out to be a long there and back loop. Boring.

The interesting part came at the mile markers. The head of the high school socialites, my mental archrival if you will, was volunteering at mile marker 1 and 3 on the way back. I was going to have to run past her not once, but twice. Argh, I couldn't believe it. I still can't figure out why she of all people was there. It was like a sign from God that I could do this and get on with my life. I did all I knew how to do. I held my head high and just kept running. At that moment I ran into the next phase of my life. One where the past stays in the past. I have overcome.

I finished at 39:08. My fastest time yet, but time was not my victory.

I have pics of the day posted here. (http://adamanddena.multiply.com/photos/album/11)

Thanks again WISHers. Again, you have made a difference.

Congrats to everyone who raced this week! :thumbsup2 :cheer2: :cheer2:

GoofyGuy - Glad you enjoyed the Broad Street Run (sorry about your GI issues). It was such a gorgeous day! The Governor comes out every year to high-five participants. We had over 15,000 registered for the event. Not sure how many finished. Haven't seen the full results yet. Did you come to the Expo? I really like our new location (at the Eagles Stadium).

It was a busy week for me, with the Expo and working race day (put in 71 hours this week). I came home and slept ALL day. Woke up about 8:30 tonight. Now that the event is over I can get back to training.

I bought a new pair of running shoes. It's a brand called Loco. I got the cushioning shoe. Hope to break them in and be comfy in them for the DL 1/2. Plus they're trimmed in lime green :teeth:

Congrats to the racers :cheer2: :thumbsup2

Sounds like from an American runner's point of view it would be a good thing to eventually go metric to end the confusion ;) The whole world 'runs' on metric - That is except for teh aviation world. I work in that field, and I can tell you all the necessary conversions really suck

I don't have much time for individuals this morning, but I thought I would pop in to mention that I am completely swamped at work this week, so if I am AWOL, I have not given up on training.... I'm just overloaded. E.g., I have been at my desk since 5am. :sad2: and that'll be the case all week. :sad2:

OK, got to dash!
Congrats to everyone once again!!

Congrats to all of our Minnie runners!! I am so jealous, I wish I had known in time and I would have trained to be there with you guys too.

Paul - pixiedust: for the leg/toe

Christy - I am so glad you were able to finish and still get to something so important for your FIL.

Dena - Congrats on your 5k!! I can't wait to find one around here to sign up for.

Well, as far as me things have been going pretty well. I ran 2 miles on Friday in 19:26. Then Saturday morning I got up before DH and the kids and put in 4 miles in 38:18. I was so proud of myself. Before I had gotten so sick I had only gotten up to 4 miles in my long runs, so I am finally back to where I left off. I did have a little bit of shin pain this weekend though so I am gonna slow down a bit on my mileage. I have plenty of time to build up gradually now. Unfortunately, I didn't get to run this morning. Michael has come down with some sort of bug and has had a fever for 2 days now. So, I am waiting for his Dr's office to open up so I can set him an appt. Looks like I will be just running around my neighborhood when David gets home from work this evening.

To those trying to read my trip report from Michael's 5th birthday, I am sorry it has taken so long. I am going to try to get another part of it done this afternoon, hopefully.

Kevin: Good luck on the busy week!

Dena: :grouphug: :cheer2:  :cool1: I am SO PROUD OF YOU!!!

Jackie, Lynnda, Christy, Mel....SUPER job on your Minnie races! Wow...you all did so well. Congrats to your DD Mel!!! 6th place is AMAZING! :cheer2:

Paul: Pixie Dust for the foot! Definitely RICE and see what happens!!! Keep us posted.

Yesterday was my 5 Mile LR for the week. The weather was perfect :sunny: for running! We decided to bring the kids and their bikes to the state park. DH would ride bikes with them while I did my run. So they dropped me off at the entrance to the park and took off. Unfortunately I left my watch in the car  so I had to resign myself to the fact that I would not know my splits or time for that matter LOL! In the end it was a blessing in disguise. I felt so relaxed running w/out the watch. I enjoyed all the beautiful scenery, I did half road and half trails....there was so much to look at that the 5 miles seem to pass in no time. I finished on the road with a strong final mile (at least it felt like it). By checking the song times on my Ipod I estimated about 56 minutes for the run. I know that I stopped to check the trail maps and do some "navigating" and I took a few walk breaks to enjoy some beautiful scenery....so I could have been faster but it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun!!! :cloud9: Overall a Great run!

The best news is that I had no stomach pains this time! I ended up making my own sports drink as opposed to using gatorate, etc. For anyone interested here is how you do it:

3 T table sugar, 1/8 tsp salt, 20oz water PLUS flavoring (I used a splash of OJ but you could squeaze in lemon juice or any other flavored juice). You could also put in a 1/2 packet unsweetened koolaid mix, etc.

It tasted very good and was not heavy like gatorade!

Good morning everyone!!! :sunny: I had a great time at the Flying Pig half, the race was so organized and the entertainment on the course was great, it definitely rivals Disney. I have pictures, but they are all on the computer at home, I'll post them tonight. The weather was perfect, at the 6:00 am start, it was 49 degrees and it only warmed up to 52 at 9:00. It was cloudy the entire time, which was great because it kept the temps down. I was completely comfortable the entire race, I was never hot and I was never cold. The course itself was interesting, we started by Paul Brown Stadium (boo-hiss!), we crossed the bridge into Northern Kentucky for a couple of miles and then came back across another bridge and into Ohio. Miles 3.5-5 were all downtown and then miles about 5.5-9 were all uphill, we topped out at 800 feet, it was beautiful to see the city below, but that hill was not fun! Mile 9 was flat and then 10-11.5 were all downhill, 11.5-13.1 were all flat. It was a fun course, but tough, I couldn't imagine running the full with those hills. So how did I do? My goal was 3 hours, I finished in 3:00:13--I was very excited and happy with my time. I walked the entire race, but ended up running the last 150 yards, I just couldn't help myself. :goodvibes Stephen finished in 1:57:38, obviously, we didn't stay together. It was weird because in some ways, this half was easier than Disney, the course itself was harder, but never once did I get tired and every time I came up another mile, I couldn't believe that the previous mile went by so fast. I don't know if it was easier because I walked versus running or I knew what to expect this time, but it was an awesome race. I feel good today, my booty is sore, I'm attributing that to the massive hill, and my right foot is sore, but other than that I feel great. It doesn't help that I have WDW to look forward to--we leave in 3 1/2 days!! :teeth:

Dena-- :cheer2: :cheer2: on your 5K!! I am so proud of you for facing your demons and getting out there. Your time was great! My first 5K time was 39.04. I loved looking at your pictures!

Congrats to the all Minnie finishers!!! :cheer2:

Goofyguy--You are fast!! You did 10 miles in 1:16?? Wow!!!!!

I'll be back later to post pictures of the Pig!!! Have a great day!

Terri, thanks for the concern but the GI thing was over and done with quickly and I think I was partly the problem with going out too fast. Thank you for all your work on putting together the race and expo, they were both great. I did actuially make the expo on Friday and was there for about an hour but got caught up with the Team in Training people (as an alum and having worked the PDR with them I couldn't just pass by without saying hello) and had to run to meet a group going to the Phillies game. Again, thanks for a great event.

Can't wait to read and see all the Minnie reports!

Krista - Great job on the flying pig!!! You really stuck it out! I'm glad it wasn't too hard on your bod! I'm so impressed w/ your perserverance!

Dena - I've been thinking about you all morning. You did such a brave thing! Way to go on running your 5k. You are teaching your daugher lessons that are of such great value!

Had a pretty good weekend. We mountain biked in the rain on Sat. We were pretty much the only ones on the trail. Did a 9 mile trail run yesterday and had a pace of under 11:00 or around 11:00 depending on the actual distance (garmin and cell phones don't work out there). I'm sore today. I did some aggressive stretching friday that made me sore and then turned my ankle yesterday, but overall the run was good. I think i'll just do really light weights (if at all) and basically rest.

Oh my goodness! Everyone had such fabulous events! I am so happy for all of you and so proud of you all! :thumbsup2

I'd like to give a "shout out" to Cam. I kept saying all weekend "I HAVE to call Cam" but, as you will see, it was not the best weekend I ever had. But, Cam, when I turned my phone on Sunday night to look up a number...there was your message. It was so sweet and it was such perfect timing, it made me so happy. Thank you SO MUCH. :cloud9: I even made DH listen to it as he was driving. It was such a awful weekend...you were the one bright spot.

My friend Cyndi's son died of a drug overdose. He was only 24. Justin had been on a path of self-destruction for many many years, but for the past five months had been clean and sober. But he came home last weekend to attend a funeral for a friend of his that OD'd too and apparently he "hooked up" with some of his old connections. He went back to his apartment in MA Sunday night. His girlfriend was trying to call him for a couple of days but then she started getting worried so she called the police. When they went to his apartment Thursday he was already gone. The police had to come to Cyndi's house Thursday night to tell her. :sad2:

Sorry to be so depressing. We dealt with this all weekend. It was so incredibly sad.

So you can see why Cam's message meant so much to me. In the midst of all that saddness, someone was thinking of me. How incredibly sweet she is!

Thank you for letting me get that out. I'm not in the mood to talk to anyone in RL this morning.

Needless to say, I did not train Fri, Sat or Sun. I did this morning though. I just did my standard 45 @ 3.8 @1%.

OK, let me see if I can concentrate on some work. :surfweb:

WISH team was in full force this weekend...way to go everyone!!

Congrats to Mel's DD on a great finish!! Mel, Christy, Lynnda, Jackie and all who ran the Minnie....WAY TO GO!!! Where are those medal pics??!!

Jodi - Good luck on your 5k this Saturday! You are gonna do awesome!

Goofyguy - visited Philly for the first time this past summer and love it there. 10 miles in 1:16 is awesome, nice job!

Dena - WAY TO GO!!! That race was so important and special for you...I'm so proud of you for overcoming your fears/thoughts and doing such a great job! 39 minutes is awesome and thanks for the link to the pictures...the race looked like fun! You should be very proud of yourself!

Amy - did you come up with "AmyBethade" on your own? sounds pretty good and worth a try...I'm envious of your trail/road run in your state park, I bet it was a beautiful run.

Well, for those who don't know, I competed in my second 5k this past Saturday. It was very hilly but I managed to finish in 30:12, beating my other 5k time by 3 minutes! I was a little disappointed at not coming in under 30, but very pleased with my progress. Yesterday I took back the shoes that were hurting my feet and picked up some Asics 2110GT shoes....I can't wait to try them out tonight during my run.

Scott...You rocked!!! WTG on your 5K. Shaving 3 minutes off your last 5K is amazing...especially considering the tough hills you ran in this race! :cheer2:

Krista.....WTG girl!!! I was thinking about you at the PIG! Sounds like a really fun race! You did so great!!!

Only a little time, but wanted to say a few things!

Congratulations to all who ran this weekend!!! I was so excited when I could finally catch the Minnie results! DH says congrats to all too!!

Dena - I am so proud of you for holding your head high! The thought of running in front of my HS coach in August still has me freaked out! Way to go!!!

Solo - Hang in there!

Judy - So sorry about your friend's son. :grouphug:

Saturday was just a 4-miler. (How come I feel like a slacker if I only do 4 now???) ANyway, I started with a 10:45 and was afraid that I would not be able to keep it up. I really wanted to run hard, because I was only doing 4. Next mile, 10:35. Holy cow! This is awesome, but there's no way I can get neg spits with a mile 2 that low! Mile 3 was looking like 10:14 adn that was going up hill. I must admit, I slacked a bit because I did not want to have to kill myself that last mile to have a last neg. split. So, I did a 10:15 mile 3. Did I get that ever elusive neg. split? 9:40!!!! We rocked that last mile!

Have a great week everyone!

Judy so sorry to hear about your friend's son. I lost a loved one that way a number of years ago so I know the heartbreak she is going through. Prayers to, Cyndi and her family.

Dena, great job on your race. I'm really proud of you for moving on!

Krista, great job on the Flying Pig!

My blistered feet are much better today. I'm off now to try them back in shoes for the first time since Sat. I think I can do it!

Just quickly checking in - I flew home this morning from the Minnie and now I'm in the office. :confused3 If I didn't have every single vacation day planned for the year, I would NOT be here!!

We had a great, albeit tiring, weekend. DH came through with flying colors and we ran the entire race together with a 12:00 MPM pace. It was so nice to see everyone again and I am sorry we weren't able to make it to EOS to meet up with more WISH'ers. Unfortunately, we had to opt for picking up some race gear in town. I hope everyone had succesful races and safe travels home.

Krista - Congrats on the Flying Pig!!

Where can I look up how far distances are? :confused3 OK I know that question doesn't make sense now that I see it in print but you know what I mean. How many miles is 4.3K? 15K? That's what I mean.

I survived! :yay: The 30th running of the Indianapolis Mini Marathon (half) was this weekend. You actually get to do a lap (2 1/2 miles) around the Indianapolis Speedway. Pretty awesome to run in the same place those race cars "fly"...unfortunately I didn't hit any of the same speeds. There were 35,000 others on the course. Yep, really crowded. I tried really hard not to bob & weave thru the crowd so I wouldn't add extra miles. On the up side, the weather was absolutely perfect. It was 51 degrees vs. the 76 last year. I thought of everyone a lot and hoped you were all having a great run too.

A co-worker that also was not able to train properly and I kept encouraging each other along. It was amazing that we jogged for 8 miles before deciding we needed a walk break. After walking 3 miles, we decided to shuffle it on in. The angels must have carried us as we finished in 3:08. I know everyones good thoughts helped get me thru also, so want to say THANK YOU! THANK YOU! The WISH team support rocks!

Of course both knees are in excruitating pain still today...which I fully deserve for not training properly. However, it gave me a real good wake up call. The WDW marathon is a distance to respect and I better get my head in the game for it. After a couple weeks recovery, I will keep moving forward.

Dena - Way to go! You overcame all your fears and insecurities and DID IT! I'm so proud of you!

Krista - GREAT time in the Pig. Nothing like setting a goal and sticking to it. I am, however, still reeling from the "rivals Disney" comment! Having just returned and still living in the aura of the World, I find it impossible to believe that anything can rival Disney!

Judy - So sorry about your friend's son. I know this has been a tough weekend.

Scott - 3 whole minutes! Wow!

Nancy - Did you get to see Paul Revere & the Raiders? I didn't catch the whole show, but saw parts of both the 6:15 and 8:15 Sat night. Looked like more show than music, but at their age, it was still really impressive! Glad your feet are feeling better.

Quick summary of how the weekend went... arrived in the world Friday around 10:00, dropped the luggage at AKL, went to AK and rode EE and a few others, relaxed at the pool for an hour, dinner at Boma, Epcot till midnight (did Soarin' for the 1st time), up at 5:30, race at 7:30, MGM and MK before EoS, then Epcot till close, bed @ 11, up at 7, AK by opening, leave park @ 11:30, drive back to NC, home @ 10:30, up @ 6 to go to work this morning. I never believed it possible to hit all 4 parks and ride all the big attractions in 48 hours, but we proved it can be done! As for my productivity at work today, well... let's just say I've had better days.

I felt great about my pace - started out jogging, stopped to walk before I felt tired, then pretty much kept to a 2:00 run/2:00 walk for most of the race. My splits were 12:48, 12:50, 13:07. No negatives, but a lot more consistent than I thought I was capable of!

You guys have definitely kept me going, and now you've hooked me! DH is online right now looking for 5Ks in the area. Thanks for all the support and encouragement so far. This is an amazing group!

My next door neighbor/training partner is now completely corrupted. She just decided she's doing her first half mary this weekend at the Big Lake Half in NH so guess who else is running a half mary this Saturday? My training plan calls for a 40 mile ride Saturday and a 8 mile run Sunday because it's taper. Umm, is a half mary an appropriate part of taper if it's not done at race pace? I'll get my revenge on Jan 7th though because she's said she's doing the marathon and I'm going to hold her to it this year. Someone's going to have to drag my undertrained posterior region through the marathon so I can collect my second Mickey and my first Goofy and she just elected herself. Actually, I'm only hoping to be undertrained as I'm hoping that I'll be racing triathlons until November. The desired end to the triathlon season is the 70.3 World Championship in Clearwater in November.

PD for Judy and your friend's family.
Thanks to everyone that has posted race reports from the weekend- I've enjoyed reading them
but...where are the rest of the race reports from the weekend?
Dena- your tale about conquering demons bigger than the running ones was neat. Stuff like that is what makes this group great.

I'll do something similar soon: Hockenheimring, one of Germany's two Formula One tracks, is open nearly every Tuesday for inline skating and DW, I and many of my coworkers usually go there a couple of times each summer.

Morning Everyone,

Not much to report to all of you - yesterday was my rest day. Tonight I will be running on the threadmill - I have to run some errands after work, so I'm afraid I won't get to run until late.

Okay - advice needed......Saturday is my 5k run and just like my MS Walk event we are due to get some ran, actually for Saturday they are expecting heavy rain (just like the MS Walk). My question is - is there something that I can do to my sneakers so that they won't get all musty smelling after my run in the rain (I'm really allergic) or should I just face facts that I will have to buy new sneakers? Also, is there something that I can take before the race - so that I won't get sick? I know there is Airbourne but is there anything else.....I really can't afford getting sick (my company at the beginning of the year had gotten rid of sick days).

Well, I am going to run for now - I will write more once I get to work.

Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

Not much for me to report since my 5 mile LR on Saturday, rest day Sunday, and life got in the way of me getting out to run yesterday. I'll get back on track today.

Dena- I loved your race report. Congratulations on conquering your demons. You are doing awesome and should be very proud.

Krista- Great job on the pig!!! So I'd love to hear more details about how the Pig rivals Disney. Is it the support? Entertainment?

Goofyguy1958- Your 10 miler was super fast. I can't believe you did 7 min miles with your GI trouble. So the PA governor is always at the race? Krista- if Lynn Swann wins the PA governor's race, do you want to run the BroadStreet 10 miler?

Sunny- How'd the 5k with your Dx go?

Congrats to all the Minnie runners. It sounds like you had such a super fun race. I love the reports. Mel- thanks for posting some pictures on the other thread too.

Well, I ran yesterday. Even through the miserable rain we had all day. I waited for David to get hom and a break in the rain, and ran out the door for 20 minutes. It wasn't much, but it's definately better than nothing. But MAN!! I forgot how much I hate running in the rain!! Today I am just planning on doing some weights/cardio here at home, since the rain seems to be determined to hang around a while. Can't complain though, we need it something fierce.

Jodi - The only thing I can suggest is to get a bunch of old newspaper, and actually stick it in your shoes when they are wet. If the shoes are soaked you may need to change the newspaper a couple of times. It really helps soak up all the water much faster, and might be able to keep them from smelling funky!

Mouse Skywalker, The Gov just happens to live in Philadelphia and he was the mayor for 8 years. He just really loves the city and has done a lot there to turn it around. He is also a huge sports fan and major supporter of all things athletic. Chimera, thanks and it is a cool run - I have now completed it 9 times.

With that said, I did a bit of a review of my Broad Street run last night and think I figured out why I chumed twice; seems I was a bit too fast in my first 6, not just 3, miles. I reviewed the Garmin breakdown of mile splits and I covered the first 5 miles in 36:12 (that's 30 seconds faster than the 5 mile race I was so happy with two weeks ago) and then I covered mile 5 to 6 in 6:50 (guess the crowds got me a bit pumped up). I guess I can not hold back my pace as well as I would like so I am just going to have to work a bit more on my endurance or be sure to run with someone who is a bit more patient than I.

Sorry, no pictures of the Pig yet. I spent last night doing laundry for our vacation on Thursday. I was so focused on the Pig, this vacation kind of snuck up on me, I am so not ready!! I have no idea what I'm going to pack yet and I still have to do my last minute Target run. We basically only have tonight and tomorrow, our flight leaves Thursday at 8:40pm, Stephen is dropping me off at work and picking me up as my work is on the way to the airport. We have to drop Hines off at the kennel tomorrow night for "camp" (that's what I've been telling him :goodvibes ), so I know I'm going to be  for the rest of the night. Sorry to babble!!

Jackie and Dave--I hate to say it, but the Flying Pig definitely rivaled Disney, comparing half marathon to half marathon. Granted nothing can compare to or be better than the running down Main Street USA and through Cinderella Castle, but other than about a mile through the Magic Kingdom and less than a mile through Epcot, the rest of the half course is all on highways--not very exciting at all. The Flying Pig half course is very nice, in my opinion nicer than Disney (taking out MK and Epcot out of the equation), the course is in downtown Cincy, across the river and through Northern Kentucky, back through downtown and up over a park that has amazing views of the city, down the hill, looking at the city and then back to downtown. The course runs through neighborhoods and people are out on their door steps or hanging out of windows cheering for you. The support was about equal, with both courses having water stops every mile, Disney does have characters, but not nearly as many as I thought there would be. I can only remember seeing characters at mile 3 (Peter Pan) and then in the Magic Kingdom. I don't remember seeing any in Epcot. I'm not knocking Disney at all, it's a good half marathon course, but I thought the Pig was great. I don't really know how to explain it, but they are both great marathons to run. Maybe the Pig means a lot to me because I was born in Cincinnati and I have lived my whole life here (other than 4 years in college). Another factor that may have made the Pig better was I better mentally prepared for the 13.1 miles. During Disney, I knew I could do the distance, but mentally I had never been through such a long distance. For the Pig, I knew what 13.1 miles would feel like physically and mentally and I was better prepared for it. Does that make ANY sense?? :teeth:

Jodi--You can definitely dry your shoes in the dryer, just take your insoles out so the underneath can get completely dry.

Lynne--Somehow, I think you'll be fine. :thumbsup2

Since I've never run WDW, I was just curious what makes a good marathon. It's nice to know that there is a really good event out there that is a little closer to home than WDW. I'll definitely have to put this on my race calendar to run someday. Assuming I get through the WDW marathon.

Hi all--been absent again! I'm such a bad WISHer!

Bad news--no pregnancy this month--HOWEVER....it would have been pretty cool had we been successful b/c (no lie) the due date would have been January 7th--WDW Marathon day. :rotfl2:

Good news--hubby is going to let me use skymiles to book my flight to Disneyland. I just have to get it in my head that I can earn the money with my job. Soooo.....one step closer to Disneyland!

I am bummed that I ditched the Minnie--those are awesome medals. Hubby would not have been home anyway, though I'm sure I could have arranged something.

We leave in THREE weeks for Washington DC for the summer. :scared1:

So I will be training for the DL Half up there. Contemplating the Space Coast Half Marathon (local race) here---but still not planning a rendezvous in January at WDW. I'm actually entertaining the notion of doing the Rock N Roll Marathon in Phoenix with Team in Training. I don't know. Just went and cheered this weekend for the 20 mile run for the team that is now training for Alaska or San Diego (RNR) and got a little.....envious--the legs were all twitching as if to say....pllllllllleeeeeeease let us run! I miss it so.

As Chicken Little says--Today is a NEW day! That is the new mantra in our house!

We'll see how far it gets us.

Hi all!

I am still computerless. Just checking in from my husbands computer. I was in DW with the family 4/29-5/2 for a long weekend. We had a great time! I was walking through the parks imagining all of you for Minnie weekend. It sounds like everyone had a blast and the event was a success!

I just started training for the Chicago half this week. 14 weeks to go! I decided to walk since I am still having hip/heel pain. As it turns out, I really enjoy my walking so much more than the r/w. I see the orthopod this afternoon.

Does anyone know what the time limit for the course is? Do I need a 15min/mile pace?

Mel - way to go to you and your DD! I would love to do a race with my dd15 at some point!

Paul - sorry to hear about your knee pain! - take it easy.

Christy, Lynnda, Jackie

Jodi - glad to hear that your training is still going well! Good luck on your first 5k! Make sure to have fun.

Dena - Wow, your post on your 5k is inspiring!

GoofyGuy - I glad you are feeling better.

Krista - congrats on the half. Great time!

Scott - Great time on your 5k!

Judy - how awful. so sad. You, your friend and family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Well, now that I am somewhat caught up (not nearly everyone) I am not sure when I will have a computer again! So, I am still here and part of the TEAM. I will be keeping up with my training for the Chicago Half and promise that if I start to fall off the bandwagon I will get myself back to a computer find my motivation again!

Best wishes to everyone in their training and RL.

Hi Maggie,

The time limit for the Chicago half is 4 hrs, which is just over 18 minute miles. I walked the Columbus half (also a Bingham event) at a 16:47 pace, with no effort at all. DH and I will be walking in Chicago, but will be picking up the pace preparing for the DL half in Sept. That event has a 16 minute minimum. I am really looking forward (mostly) to walking with DH. I walked with my son in Columbus (he is a freshman at OSU) plus a couple of Dis'ers and that was really cool.

I look forward to seeing you and hopefully a lot more Dis'ers in Chicago!

Dena- I teared up reading your race report. It is an incredible moment when you realize that who you were yesterday is not who you have to be tomorrow. Letting go of the past is a wonderful, life-changing experience. I remember the moment when I finally realized that I am an athlete, and I can do this. It was almost 2 years ago with the help of my friends here on the WISH board. Congratulations on your 5K. You are an athlete. You go girl! :cheer2:

Krista- Way to go on the Flying Pig! My DH grew up in Cincinnati. We might do the Pig with you next year. Is the t-shirt cool? I sure hope you are wearing it. You are not a poser! You did it!

Congratulations to everyone who did the Minnie and other races last weekend. Isn't this fun? :yay:

I have been working hard and getting no exercise. I have got to start running again this week. My marathon relay race is on May 20th. Four miles is not that long a distance, but it will seem long if I have to crawl to the finish. :rotfl:

Better get back to work. Happy Tuesday everyone!

Heather--Where did your DH grow up? I live in Liberty Township, which until about 7-10 years ago was corn fields, but I grew up in Reading (lived there from birth to 8) and Lockland (8-20) and my parents now live in Fairfield Township. I wish I had known he was from the 'Nati, we could have talked about that in January! :) Yes, I did get the t-shirt and it is very cool, I haven't worn it yet, maybe I'll wear it tonight on my Target excursion. I also bought a black hooded sweatshirt that says "Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon, Est. 1999"--I wore that Sunday when we went out to eat after getting cleaned up. You would not believe all the freebies we got from this marathon, we got: a canvas duffel bag, a t-shirt, a poster, a hand towel that says "I went wee, wee,wee at the Flying Pig Marathon, May 2006" (that is hanging in my cubicle) and a medal (also in my cube). The medal is very neat, it is actually a 3-D medal with a pig wearing wings and flight googles and on the back of the medal is the back of the pig. I'll post a picture of that tonight too. You should think about doing the Pig next year, it was so much fun. It's always the first Sunday in May, so it would be on May 6th.

Congrats to all the Minnie runners & all the other race reports. Sounds like everyone is keeping busy :moped:

Our hometown 5K was really fun. They had an organized warm-up and stretch which was really nice. I let Dx set the pace. He worried me during mile 2. He started passing people left and right. I expected him to be at about a 10:00 pace but we finished 29:42 (9:35 pace).

When we got to the shoot I stopped to let him go first, but he didn't know what I was doing so he stopped, too. Then I pushed him in and people in the crowd said, "ah, isn't that sweet".

I rented a bike yesterday, still half contemplating doing my tri on Sunday. "They" are right, you never forget how to ride a bike! Its been over 20 years since I've been on one. I can't say I'm any good at picking the right gears or starting and stopping though. Besides not being trained, I'm also quite sick so it will really be a miracle if I decide to go.

I'll keep you posted :)

Hi,

Congratulations to everyone who finished the Minnie, and other local races.

Judy - my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I have just started running again this week. I have been xtraining and walking, finally felt good enough to start running.

Last night I worked out with hand weights and the ball, and then went for a swim, forgot my goggles, so right now my eyes still look like I'm hungover!

Today I went for a 3 mile run - I was planning to run 3/walk 2. But felt way better than expecting so ran 5/walked 2. My 3 miles took 30mins 27 secs! For me that's awesome - I usually average 15 minute miles. The cross training must have paid off.

Can I keep up 10 minute miles for the longer distances, I don't know yet. My goal is to improve from 15 minutes to 14 minutes, which would have me on track for a 3 hour finish for the DL 1/2. Speed in my short runs will help with the longer runs anyway, so I'll keep plugging away.

I don't have any shifts for my second job this week, so it makes scheduling training sessions much easier.

have a great week.

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

Ran 3.14 miles yesterday in 33:54 min (10:47 mpm) on the hilly Mt. Hope Cememtery course. I must admit I thought I was going faster and farther. I was trying to run 4 miles and I even added another little loop to the course from the last time I ran it. I ran the course last week and my Garmin measured it at 3.18 miles. Yesterday it measured the course at 3.14 miles, but I added another little loop?? :confused3 OK, I'm looking at the map now, and it looks like there is a spot between mile 1 and 2 where there is a suspicious straight line on my course. I think the Garmin lost me for a little bit.

Rachel! That is an awesome pace!!!!!! way to go!

Dave - I think if the Garmin loses you when you are on a loop, you do indeed lose that distance. I do mostly out and backs, so as long as it doesn't lose me at the furthest extent, it will catch up.

MelRhoads

Dave - You can always pace that distance off w/ your car or bike computer. Obviously, if your route was longer, your pace was faster! You probably were going harder and faster than the garmin said. How did your shins do w/ the hills?

Sunny - do it, do it, do it!!!!! It can be your little Mother's day pres to yourself!

Judy - So sorry to hear about your friend's son. I lost a friend that way about 1 year ago. There is such a sense of loss.

Sara - I loved your race report! It sounds like you guys had such a good time. I have only stayed at the Peabody in Memphis and it was nice. (any hotel seems nicer when it is just the 2 of us :rotfl: )

I totally skipped my weights monday, so I'm lifting today. EC hurt her leg, so no running tomorrow. We are going on a really long bike ride. Yesterday, I swam 1.15 miles (i thought I was doing 1.2) and them mt. biked for about 5.5 I still havent gotten used to my new bike, so my ride wasn't as fast as it usually is, but I will. The gears in back are a little different, so I'm having some trouble climbing hills after a fast downhill. When the trails dry off a little, I'll practice more!

Hope everyone has a good day of training.

Good Morning Everyone!! Just wanted to check in and update on my training. Yesterday Michael woke up and his fever was gone, thankfully. I decided not to take him to the gym though. So I did my "The FIRM" body sculpting DVD. Can you say "OUCH!!". That's how I felt afterwards. Upper, Lower, and Abs. So, I knew that I had to get out and run this morning even if I didn't want to, because if I didn't I wouldn't be able to walk tomorrow. Unfortunately, Michael's fever came back a little bit last night and he wasn't feeling great this morning even though the fever had once again disappeared. So, I put both of the boys in the double jogging stroller. WE're talking 25 lbs stroller, 50 lb 5yr old, and 30-35 lb 18month old. I was pushing about 100 lbs while running 2 miles. To say the least I have sufficiently stretched my arms, and legs out during this workout. I feel much better now though, and succeeded in a 21:15 for my 2 miles this morning!! Not too bad!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful morning and I can't wait to hear how everyone else is.

Coming out of lurkerdom on this thread to say a big :) thanks. The Peabody was just what we were looking for and I certainly hear you about it being nicer when you're sans kids :rotfl2: We really did have a great time and the best part is DH's post-race high that he always gets from exceeding his expectations. I think he is inspired to actually begin training for the DL 1/2. I can't ask for more than that :cool1: Have fun with the new bike!!

Colleen - I am waiting for a report from your 1/2!!

Sunny - Good luck on your tri!!

Judy - :wizard:

LLP - sending lots of baby-making :wizard: your way. So glad to "see" you again. Yeah on the DL 1/2!!!

Best of luck to everyone on meeting goals this week.

Dave - You can always pace that distance off w/ your car or bike computer. Obviously, if your route was longer, your pace was faster! You probably were going harder and faster than the garmin said. How did your shins do w/ the hills? Hi MelR :wave2: My shins have been feeling a lot better. Maybe I'm getting over the hump with my shin splints. I still think some new shoes will help me, but they have not been so bad. Thanks for asking.

Hello everyone. :wave2:

Nothing to report as Wed is a rest day.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts about Justin. His parents are having a memorial service on Saturday.

Anybody seen Cam??? :confused3

They have put up signs all over town that say "Memorial Day Races, May 29th". Everytime I drive by one I get so excited! :yay: I can't wait!

Just wanted to let y'all know that I got an email survey on the Minnie Marathon. I mentioned the lack of porta potties and that I thought the 15K course was better than the half since it included more theme park time. And I thought y'all would be interested in one of the last questions...they asked if there were a women's half marathon at WDW, would I be likely to participate?
I said YES :thumbsup2

Hi, everyone! Just wanted to pop in to say a quick hello.

Judy -- I am so sorry about Justin. My thoughts and prayers are with you and with his family.

Liz -- Thank you SOOOOO much for all your supportive and encouraging phone calls over the weekend and to share the excitement. :grouphug:

I am going to do a Minnie race report but just haven't had time yet. The weekend was awesome -- Rhonda and I had such a great time and the highlights were definitely hanging out with other WISHers and walking away with Minnie medals. Of course, we also did our fair share of hanging out at Adventurers' Club and Comedy Warehouse, sampling some adult beverages, eating at some awesome restaurants, and shopping till we dropped!

As for the race -- I, like so many, wasted 1/2 hour at the portopotties pre-race and sacrificed all my stretching time. We got there by 5:30 and I stretched for about 10 minutes before getting in line (BIG mistake -- there were NO lines when we got there, and 10 minutes later it was a mob scene). It definitely had the absolute worst impact on my hip. Within the first couple of miles I had discomfort which quickly turned to pain and the tears in my eyes at MGM were not sentimental. Thank God that Rhonda kept encouraging me and checking our pace. We ran before and past every mile marker and across the start and finish lines. It was an awesome experience.

I received the same survey Mel did and mentioned the unsatisfactory race shirts (black singlets for a women's race in May?), unavailability of race clothing in anything larger than a size large (which ran very small), and too few portapotties at the start and throughout the course.

I will post a report soon and am hoping to have a lot more to post here about training to train for DL. I have that very intimidating 5 miler on 5/27 and am going to really work on my hamstring/hip between now and then.

Keep up the great work, everyone! I loved reading about Krista's Flying Pig and Dave's 3.14 miles (Dave-- sounds to me like it was longer than that! Dratted Garmin! :teeth: )

Judy :grouphug:

Dana... :wizard: for your little one.

Rachael...great pace!

I'm still on rest after the Minnie. Apparently woke up the PF in my R foot, though I'm starting to think the heels I wear at work may be at least partly responsible.

Ok y'all...so what do I do next? I have no more races scheduled until WDW half. I'll probably double up the training schedule like I did last year, but that won't need to start until August. What should I do in the meantime? I'm thinking about working on increasing running time so that I can train to run the half instead of intervals. Anyone with any suggestions on the best way to do this?

I feel like I haven't really been around here in awhile...how's everyone doin'?

Hi Wishers....

Krista.....WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH AI???!!!!! :furious: I can't believe they voted Chris off. My DD is fuming LOL....she turned off the TV and stomped away saying she's never watching AI again. But I have to agree....this one's a stumper to me?! Different strokes for different folks though! Should be interesting now...I thought Chris was a true star from day one. I just don't see that spark in any of the rest? Hmmmmmm

Mel....I don't have too much advice for switching from run/walk to all run, except maybe just keep increasing your run:walk ratio until you're running primarily. Or maybe go for 10:1 run:walk so at least you give your legs a break. Pixie Dust for the PF too....mine sort of disappeared. I think the culprit was my trail running sneakers. So now they just sit in the closet and I'm trail running on my Asics Kayanos...guess I'll be replacing them more frequently :confused3 . Thanks so much for sharing your pics of the Minnie! I'd love to do it next year!!!

Cam....How is your hip feeling? Is that a recurring injury? Your pace sounded good....I'm sorry to hear you were in pain :grouphug: .

Dana....PIXIE DUST to your little guy who's sick :(. Sooo much is still going around here!

Rachel....Super pace!!! WTG :goodvibes

Dave....I'm worried about buying the Garmin. I promised myself that I'd get one when I hit the 5 Mile distance. Well...that was a few weeks ago now but I still haven't ordered it. I live in a very rural area and run in wooded areas....sometimes on trails and sometimes on streets with LARGE trees. Now that the foliage is in I'm afraid I'll get minimal signal. We couldn't even get satellite TV on the top of our house....zero signal....and that is from the roof!!! So I'm just not sure. Anyway....sounds like your Garmin wigged a little but overall it sounds great! Also glad to hear your shins are doing well!!!

As for me....still running although I had to take a day off and missed one run this week. I've been dealing with recurrent hip soreness for a while now. I am beginning to rethink my marathon plan. I may try to stick to a more rigid run:walk interval to give my legs the needed break, I was originally planning to run the full with walk breaks only at the water stops. I'm hoping that if I take more frequent walk breaks I will alleviate some of the hip issues I've been experiencing! I really just need to stop focusing on my pace and speed so much...I kind of got caught up in the idea of getting fast and forgot that it might not be in my body's best interest. I also feel like I've been overtraining a bit and I'm not even into full marathon training yet! I've had recurrent leg aching sometimes at night and of course the hip tenderness....all in all both my Dad (who is an athletic wealth of knowledge) and my KBX Instructor said I might want to step down to 5 day a week schedule now for a while to give my muscles more time to recover :confused3 . I don't know....I think they may be right. I guess I'll see if that makes a difference....along with sticking to shorter intervals!

Hey everyone! :wave2: It's so late I only had a chance to skim the last couple days, but I will catch up tomorrow! :thumbsup2

We're getting ready to head back to Disney on Friday for the Danskin Triathlon... :scared1: I'm so excited and nervous!!!! I had my last tri swim session this morning and everything went well. Tomorrow I have my last individual swim lesson, then a light bike probably Friday morning before we head over. Yea!!! It is also DS's birthday, so we have some special things planned for him while we are there. :goodvibes

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but just FYI - Since we had started talking about the Race for the Taste on another thread, I wanted to double check on the Race for the Cure date/location. If anyone is interested, this was on the Komen Central Florida site...

It is a 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, and it honors breast cancer survivors, and the memory of those that did not survive. It is so awesome and humbling to see all the ladies and men in the pink survivor shirts that have dealt with this disease, and have won. The next day is the Race for the Taste 10K. DH and I did both races last year - what a great weekend! We'll be there again this year if anyone wants to come. We could do another WISH meet! (and I will be on time for this one) :teeth:

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

Whew, tough run yesterday because it was HOT! Legs felt good - I just needed some water. My DW took me to the start of the 10k I'm running and I ran from there to my house (which is on the course). It was 3.87 miles in 38:56 min (10:04 mpm). I would have run to the end of the street to get an even 4 miles but I needed something to drink bad... My shins felt OK, and I iced them afterwards. It was great to get a feel for the course I'm going to run in a couple weeks. The start is beautiful. It's in a park filled with literally 100s of lilac bushes (the race is the Lilac Festival 10k). The air is filled with the fragrance of lilac. It is pretty incredible.

Amy- I have to say that I do love my Garmin. That is the first time that it lost the GPS signal during a run - so it doesn't happen reguarly. I love knowing how far I've run, and that I can jump on any course I don't know and have some idea of how far I've run and what my pace is. I've been really happy with it.

As far as your training schedule goes - it does sound like cutting back a little on the training might be good for you. I read that hip pain is a sign of overtraining or doing too much too fast. To be honest, if I were you, I don't know that I would decide on a plan for the marathon yet. Like so many have said before, we're training to train right now. When I get closer to 20 weeks out from the marathon I'll really decide on what my running or run/walk plan is that I will train for (of course I still haven't signed up for the marathon yet ;)). Even then, during the 20 weeks of training for the marathon the plan may change.

Amy--I am so mad, I could cuss!!!!! (I can count on one hand the number of dirty words I've said in my life) :furious: :furious: I tried for 2 hours to vote for Chris on Tuesday night and I kept getting a busy signal. I'm done with American Idol, I'm not watching it anymore. Between dropping off Hines at the kennel for 10 days and Chris getting voted out, I had a rough night! It's a good thing we're going to WDW tonight, that will make me feel better. :teeth:

Lynnda--Good luck this weekend!! :wizard: I'll be thinking of you when I ride on the monorail and pass Bay Lake! Thanks for info on the Race for the Cure 5K, Stephen and I are going to be in WDW then, we actually fly out on Sunday 10/8. We were both wanting to do the 10K, but we didn't want to run and not have a place to get cleaned up before we fly out, since we'll already be checked out of our resort. With the 5K being on Saturday, we could easily do that and running through Animal Kingdom in October will be great practice for the full marathon.

Judy--I meant to tell you earlier :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: . I am so sorry for your loss.

Jodi--Good luck on your 5K on Saturday! :wizard:

I'm going to get to work, I'm trying to find loads of things to do to make the day go by faster. Stephen dropped me off this morning at my work and then went to his, when he picks me up at 5:00, we're going straight to the airport, our flight leaves at 8:40.   I doubt I'll be back in today, other than to check in, but everyone have a great week and weekend. Talk to you on Wednesday!!

Good morning! :sunny:

Race report is up. Thanks to all of you, I did not get swept and even had a good time! Official time was 2:20 and chip time was 2:19 for a pace of 14:58! Learned from the CCC and did not weave as much. Didn't need to though, as there were only about 2000 at the start. FYI, there were 1489 finishers with the last place pace at 15:55. There were 4 women between 70 and 78 who finished..ALL ahead of me!!!The fastest had a 13:15 pace!!

Once in the AKL room after the race, DH took his shoe off to discover a bloody sock. Peeled the sock off to find he had broken a quarter size blister and rubbed it raw. He had a few more blisters along with his knee swollen 3x the regular size. His days of going up and down steel decks on the Navy ships have left him in need of knee replacement surgery..but he won't do it! I had only 2 teeny blisters, but the ball of one foot was swollen big time. Got in to see a podiatrist yesterday. After taking xrays, he says that my big toe is shorter than my 2nd and 3rd toe and doesn't bend the way it should. Therefore, the 2nd toe takes most of the stress of walking. Now the bone is bruised. :confused3 So, it's no walking training for me for 2 weeks. No pool to swim in, so I'll be working on upper body strength and abs! :) Our first badges of honor!

Nancy, hope your feet have recovered by now!
MelR, Wow! You did a 9 mile bike trail..in the rain..with a turned ankle..
Scott, GREAT 2nd 5K! Keep it up!!
Carrie, YEAH :cheer2: negative splits! We're such aliens.."just a four miler!" :rotfl2:
Sara, a 12 minute pace..WOW!!
Jackie, Wonderful time for you 5K!! We were at the PR+R concert Saturday night! :wave2:
Lynne. awesome, Awesome, AWESOME!!! You do an easy 15K, fly home, take exams and pass them, and then sign up for a half marathon this weekend!!! :worship:
Erin, it was so great meeting you!! Thanks for giving up your sleep time on Saturday. Thanks again for being there Sunday morning at the finish!!
Dena, so PROUD of you!!! :thumbsup2 What's that you said? Your nemisis was volunteering NOT running???? I always enjoy your pictures!
Goofyguy sorry about your upset stomach..but you were still :smokin: !
Krists your pictures look great!
Christy, so glad that you made the Minnie AND the anniversary celebration!
Jen, CONGRATULATIONS on completing your first 5K!! A 12.5 minute mile...WOW!!
Colleen, how was your marathon?
Amy, great job on your 5 miler! After reading your delimma with the satellite signal, I would be hesitant about the Garmin, also. There are other pace watches that are not GPS. Nike has some.
Dave, time for a fuel belt for training! My DH won't wear one during a race. He says there are enough water stops. But when you are training..you are going to need some water! More stuff for our free sport. Great job signing up for the 10K!!
CJ, You DID it! A mini marathon!! Welcome to the WDW WISH team!!
Judy, really hope this is a better week for you. Congratulations on signing up for your race!! You are sooooo ready for it!!
Mel/Chimera, So glad I met you at the start because I never would have seen you during the race!! Congrats for DD, too!
Lynnda, what a great time for your race! So sorry that we didn't get to meet up at EoS! We were looking forward to tellng you in person how great your design was!

On to the next event! party:

If you don't need a system for navigation, but just for measuring your speed and distance, you could use the Nike Triax. It uses an inertial sensor which is tied into your shoelaces to measure your speed and distance. It is dipsplayed and stored on a wristwatch. It's also available in combination with a heartratemonitor. There is no satellite involved and it even works on a treadmill. According to tests I read in German running magazines it is as precise as the GPS based systems.

Just checking in - I feel so lost without the Minnie to count down to! Tried running a couple of days ago - shins hurt again just like they did before. Now someone please explain to me how the Disney magic can erase the pain enough that I can run 3 miles there without ANY pain but can't run a mile at home without it hurting?

And why did the race photographer get in front of my daughter so her picture of me at the finish line is of his back, but his picture of me didn't make it to the website?

My feet are well on their way back to normal now. Thanks to everyone for asking.

Jackie, we did not make it to Epcot on Sat. DH and I both decided we'd had enough fun for the day! We did make it back down to see PR & the R on Mon. Still a painful walk for me then, but it did feel good to stretch my legs and walk again. Took a trip to Epcot to get me motivated though!

I do believe I have created a monster in my DH. Thus far, he has accompanied me on my race ventures simply because he wanted to support me. Yep, he's a sweetie! I finally convinced him to go at his own pace for the Minnie 5K, and now he is hooked! On our way to Epcot on Mon he started asking me when our next race will be, and saying he wants to get some better running shoes! Before it was always more like "oh, no, we're not doing that again!" when I mentioned a race. Now, he can hardly wait for the next race! I guess that's a good thing! Next, I have to convince him to hydrate properly, and maybe even come here and post himself!

I would love to get a survey from Disney about the 5K! I'd start with the mess up with the shirt distribution. We still do not have ours yet due to the mix-up with volunteers giving out 2 shirts PP on race day, then I hear that the 15K runners got theirs with their goody bags??? I am really disappointed to still not have my shirt. Obviously I do not do delayed gratification well.

Hi Everyone,

I'm going to attempt to catch up with everyone and update everyone about me......Lets see haven't done a whole lot of training this week, mostly because I want to do well at the 5k on Saturday.

I am now down to 119.4 at Weight Watchers -- Oh Dave, to answer your question from last week, WW does want me to become a leader or at least take the steps to become one......It's the leader of my meeting that suggested it - she is also the person that told me to stop losing weight :teeth: I still have to look into this -- I would love to make some extra money.

Krista - Great job with the Flying Pig :thumbsup2 Thank you for sharing the pictures!

Judy - Sorry to hear about your friend's son

Thanks to all who have given advice about my sneakers :) I really appreciate it! Although, looking back at my calendar.....I am due for another pair in the June timeframe.

Good news - I may have given my DH the bug.....He is going to try and get to the point where he would be able to run a 5k with me in late summer/early fall. He's doing a great job with losing weight -- down 40 pounds :cheer2: DH is a bigger guy but that has NEVER made a difference to me. I just wish he wouldn't put himself down like he does.

So are the rest of you like me? Totally haven't given much thought about how much you really have done since starting training? Most people are amazed that I run (still can't quite come to calling myself an athelete) others have asked me how I got into such great shape......I'm looking really good (they said -- don't want you to think I have a larger than life ego) when I say WW, they know that it is more than that and then I confess about the running :teeth:

Sunny sounds like you and Dx did well with the 5k.

Dave -- great job with the training, didn't you say that soon you are doing a 5k?

Well, I'm going to run -- It's been a very long day! I have a cute non-training related story to tell you tomorrow (about DH).

Have a great night everyone!

Hi guys, :wave2:

Vancouver, Canada 1/2 Marathon race report

I flew up Thursday afternoon to Vancouver, via Chicago, to meet my two sisters at the airport. They flew in the same day from Saskatchewan. It was great to see them again. They sure looked great, as the months of training had paid off on their waistlines! :thumbsup2

We took a cab to our hotel in downtown Vancouver, a few days prior, I was lucky to score a 4* Marriott hotel on Priceline for the weekend. We were given a great view of the inlet and the mountains in the distance. Vancouver is an awesome city, I wish we had more time there to do more sight-seeing, whale-watching, etc. We did lots of shopping and ate at great restaurants.

Sunday morning came and we jumped on the marathon shuttle at 6 a.m. (This was so much better than the 3:45 a.m. shuttle I caught at Disney. At Disney I met up with Sara (msblrobs) and later MelR, it sure made the time fly by! :grouphug: ) The marathon start was at BC Place, which is a huge covered football stadium in Vancouver. It was great to be indoors because it was RAINING!! :umbrella: The race started promptly at 7 a.m. I wore one of those disposable 50 cent rain coat/cape for the first mile until I couldn't stand it any longer. I conceded that I was going to get wet.

The weather was actually great, the rain was down to a light drizzle. It was perfect running weather. My first 8 miles were great, about a 9:30 pace. Then I came upon the hill in Stanley Park, a 200 ft elevation over a mile, it was up, up and up some more. Well, I made it up with a few walking interludes. Coming down the other side was great. I hit mile 10 and I was really dragging. The last few miles weren't pretty. My chip time was 2:13. I was very happy with that time because I wasn't as prepared as I would have liked. I think that works out to about a 10:10 pace.

I was pretty wiped the rest of the day. Slept a bit and then took a red-eye flight home from Seattle to Charlotte. I arrived home at 6:30 a.m. which is 3:30 a.m. Pacific Time. The combination of the 3 time zone change, a red-eye flight, and running a half-marathon really beat me up this week, I am just now back to normal.

It was a great weekend and my sisters and I had a lot of good laughs and of course the feeling you get when you pin on your bib :yay: and strap on your timing chip :teeth: , is oh, so great!! Ahhh, life is sweet! I think I am addicted to this racing thing because I just signed up for my hometown half marathon in 3 weeks!

All you Minnie Marathoners, your pictures look great! Good job! :thumbsup2

PrincessMomma - great job on the Vancouver Marathon. We were out for breakfast and saw alot of people after the race with their t-shirts and medals. We said congratulations to as many people as we could.

Went for a run tonight - took DH with me and it was awful. I don't know what it was, but it was awful.

1st Km - 5 mins, felt good, felt strong, no aches no pains
2nd Km - 6 mins including 1.5mins walking, still feeling good
3rd Km - 11.5 mins, this is where it all went haywire, stitch, pain in shins, and hips.
4th km - 10.5 mins, (all walking) still felt horrible
5th km - 6 .5 mins, felt much better.
Was good to know that after two awful Kms I good get back in a rhythm again. Overall time was 39.5 so 8 mins kms or 13 min mile. So still okay.

Don't know what was wrong. Noticed my face was really red, but not sweaty, so possibly dehydrated, had gallstone attack on Wednesday morning could have taken more out of me than I thought, or maybe it's just DH.

Am running again on Saturday, so will see how that goes. I think I will just write tonight off as a bad run.

Hi all, got sucked into the trauma that is work again so don't the whole week in last 10 minutes. Congrats to everyone for Minnie's, Pigs etc. Just chiming in quickly re Vikings suggestion of the triax. I got one because I wasn't sure the Garmin would work here. It's okay, it's pretty accurate if the batteries are fresh but they do run out quite fast and then it messes up with the measuring. I used mine for a while when I started measuring courses for the marathon training but I didn't like having my pace etc monitored so decided it wasn't for me. If you like that idea, it's a good 'starting point' though. Helen

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I had a rest day yesterday. Had another sports medicine appointment about my shins and he gave me a couple more exercises. Sorry I haven't posted them yet - I've been waiting to have some time to write them down and adequately describe them. I'm going down to Delaware this weekend to visit my parents - Cam, I'd love to stop by and visit sometime over a cup of coffee, but this trip is pretty crammed full. I got a DING fare and am flying from Buffalo to Baltimore RT for $100, renting a car, meeting my sister in Baltimore, and then driving the 3 hours down to Delaware. My mom's health has been going downhill lately and I must admit I think this trip is going to be a difficult one. Plus, I have to miss my group run on Saturday and we were going to do 6 miles before the 10k next week. I'm going to see if I can squeeze that 6 mile run in somehow. :confused3

Thanks Krista -- I'm actually a little bit nervous and it doesn't have much to do with the weather.....just my sense of direction :goodvibes that and I would have liked to have trained more for it, so I'm below 30 minutes - oh well you can't push it, can you :confused3 Jodi- good luck with your 5k this weekend too. It's understandable to be nervous, but I'm sure you're excited too. Directions won't be any problem as there will be lots of people to follow. You've been training for a long time now, and just go out and take what the day gives you. Remember, you're an athlete, and representing a team now - our WISH TEAM. Thanks for the compliment on my training. Yup, I have my first 10k in about 10 years next week.

Krista- Have a great time at WDW!!! The Flying Pig looked like a lot of fun - so that person at the finish line dressed in the huge pig suit looked pretty funny.

Colleen- Great job on the Vancouver, Canada 1/2 Marathon!! :thumbsup2 I'm amazed at you that you can sign up for a 1/2 at the last minute, fly across country, and run it. That's awesome. How was Vancouver? I've heard it is so pretty, and would love to see it sometime.

RachaelQ- Too bad about your bad run - yeah, I guess it happens to all of us. Good for you for jumping back out there on Saturday.

OK, I gotta get ready for my trip. Have a great weekend of training and racing everyone.

Well, I'm going to run -- It's been a very long day! I have a cute non-training related story to tell you tomorrow (about DH).
Jodi

Okay - now onto the cute story (at least I get a kick out of it). Don't know if I got to tell any of you last week and how I decided to put together a surprise trip for DH (to Disney World in January).

I just got his whole family into the act and some of the people at his work know about it (they all swore they won't say anything). Anyhow, since this point Bob (DH) has gotten super nosey -- I don't think that anyone said anything but.....when we were planning our honeymoon, we were kind of on the same wavelength and both booked a photography session with the people at Disney.

This trip won't be revealed to him until our Anniversary (October) but I can't really help to think that he senses something is going on. I even had to alert my friend (the one that is running the Disney Marathon with me) that Bob may nose around.......well sure enough he e-mailed her yesterday. Thank god, friends and family are all telling Bob that it would be a bad idea for him to come in January -- because I will be too busy with the marathon.

I just really thought this was a cute story and had to share :goodvibes

Good morning all!!

Total drive-by post this morning, for which I will apoligize in advance. :guilty:

I haven't had a chance to really read most of thee posts in this thread, but I did want to make sure and say a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS! to all of our Minnie runners and CONGRATULATIONS! to Colleen for her great job in Vancouver!

I am currently hunkered down in my office on rain delay. It has been one of those weeks... 4:30AM wake-up calls, not getting out of the office until 8PM, terrible catered lunches. To top it all off it has done nothing but rain, and rain hard for the past 2 days. :umbrella: Everything rained out yesterday and today is looking just as bad... and it has turned very cold. Rain, wind and cold. Whoopie! :rolleyes2

So training has been pretty much non-existant this week, but I'm surviving. :teeth: I've promised myself that I will get out for a run on Sunday at the latest by sheer force of will if I have to... even if it's only 15 minutes or so. I feel like a big slug not doing anything (or perhaps that's just from being tired and wet....)

Back to work!
Happy training all!!
Kevin (Solotraveler) :earsboy:

My first 8 miles were great, about a 9:30 pace. Then I came upon the hill in Stanley Park, a 200 ft elevation over a mile, it was up, up and up some more. Well, I made it up with a few walking interludes. Coming down the other side was great. I hit mile 10 and I was really dragging. The last few miles weren't pretty. My chip time was 2:13. I was very happy with that time because I wasn't as prepared as I would have liked. I think that works out to about a 10:10 pace. You rock!! :cool1: We don't need no stinkin' training!! :rotfl2: Glad you had a wonderful time with your sisters.

Helen - Great to "see" you again.

Nancy - I want a Minnie survey too!! Glad to hear your DH has caught the bug.

Jackie - Sorry about your race photos.

Anne - Congrats on the Minnie finish!! Best of luck with the cross-training and a quick recovery for the foot.

Very well-deserved rest day for me today. I ordered myself a new pair of running shoes for Mother's Day, as I have done every year for the last several :confused3 . DH just laughs when he asks me what I want and always gets the same answer.

Happy training to all this weekend!!

Maharae - OMG. I cringe just thinking about how bad your DH must have hurt. Hope he feels better soon.

Colleen - Congrats on the Half in Vancouver!! Sound slike you had a wonderful trip.

Well, I got up and went for my run this morning. And since DH didn't have to work today he stayed home with the kids and let me go by myself. Yay!! No jogging stroller to push!! :cheer2: Anyway, I have been taking this week easy because of some shin pain I got on Monday. I forgot about that Big Freakin' Hill in the back of my neighborhood when I decided to run in the rain, and I think going up that hill twice caused my shins to hurt. So I have been icing twice a day and only running 2 miles. It seems to be paying off though because the pain is disappearing. My run today was amazing though. It was a little chilly when I got up this morning. Something like 57 degrees, which for Florida in May is unheard of. I swear as I was running I could see my breath!! I ran the 2 miles in 17:45, with every half miles taking less time.

1st .5 mile - 4:33
2nd .5 mile - 4:30
3rd .5 mile - 4:24
4th .5 mile - 4:18

Not half bad if I do say so myself!! I think I may put in 3 miles tomorrow if I am still feeling as good as I do now.

Good morning all! T.G.I.F!! And it's payday to boot! And you know what that means???? That I can send in the check for my Memorial Day race! Whooo hooo! :Pinkbounc

OK so I'm pathetically poor right now. Now you all know.

Thanks to the lovely thunderstorm and high winds we had last night we had no power this morning so I didn't even wake up until 6:10! So, no training for me. I;m lucky I'm dressed and at work! So I'll hit the TM tomorrow, which is fine. It was a rest day but this way I don't have to rush and maybe I can do some extra time. Plus I can finish "Gidget" which is such a ridiculously stupid movie it's painful to watch. But I'm stubborn like that. I'll finish it anyway, with hopes that the end is better then the beginning.

Maherae - Who hoo! :thumbsup2 I am so proud of you guys! Excellent job!

Jackie - Wow, that stinks about the pictures. I'd be a little miffed. Disney magic is a wonderful thing, isn't it? Don't you wish we could bottle it for home? :wizard:

Colleen - Thanks for the race report! I love reading about what other WISHers are doing. It's so inspiring! :goodvibes

Dave - If I'm not too late, have a great trip! :moped:

Jodi - What fun planning a surprise trip! :goodvibes I love doing things like that for DH. The planning is half the fun!

Kevin - I hear ya about the rain, we are practically having a monsoon here, but....we really need it. BTW, you need to stop all that pesky work stuff so you can Dis more. :teeth: I hope you have a great run on Sunday, even if it's a short one.

Dana - Not so bad if I say so for ya! :thumbsup2

OK Ok, under protest I will go back to work. Grrrr.... :surfweb:

Hi, everyone!

Dave -- I am so sorry this is going to be a difficult weekend for you. I will be thinking of you and keeping your family in my prayers. Travel safely. :grouphug:

Colleen -- You rock, chickie! What an amazing athlete you are to run a 1/2 marathon on a moment's notice! :teeth: So glad you had a great time with your sisters!

Jodi -- very cute story about January. Now, you just have to be sure Bob doesn't suddenly become a WISHer! Kudos to him for losing 40 pounds, though! That is awesome!

I posted a 3 part saga on the Minnie race reports thread, but I wanted to say here how wonderful it is to do events as part of the WISH team. There was such an air of excitement on Saturday at EoS -- anticipation for those who were racing Sunday and elation for those who had shined in the events on Saturday and were spending their recovery time with us! :grouphug: Then, to see WISHers on the course, just before the FINISH and at the FINISH was so amazing! I was so proud of everyone who had finished on pace and so happy to see those amazing smiles on the faces of participants and their proud families and friends. And I am sooo grateful to everyone who took pix and posted them. There are so many that I will enjoy adding to my album, and I will post mine soon.

I have to confess that I don't anticipate doing any training this weekend at all, which is not very smart considering I have a 5 miler in 2 weeks. But I know it will be a rough weekend since my mom died last year a week before mother's day. Am hoping to keep our family completely distracted and busy except for when we go to the cemetary on Sunday. I know it won't be easy, but I hope to make it a bit easier for the kids.

I don't remember if anyone has any events this weekend. :confused3 Good luck to all our WISHers, whatever you are doing and whereever your training takes you this weekend!

Helen,
why shouldn't a Garmin work in NZ? GPS and also GNSS (Russian version) cover nearly the whole planet. Down Under and your wonderful island are definitely covered, too.
And I can't help to say 'Isn't the internet great?': A Kiwi and a Kraut chatting on an American bulletin board - It really is a small, small world!!! :grouphug:

Hey Viking,

Thanks for the advice on the Triax :thumbsup2 . Next week I'm borrowing one of DH's co-workers Garmin 301 to see if it works in my running areas. If not I know what I'm going to get now!

Also....DH spends time in Germany for work. He works for a German company...so has to travel to your beautiful country a few times a year. One of these days I really want to accompany him and do some sight seeing myself!

Dave: Sorry to hear about your mom's health, I'll keep you in my thoughts as you deal with the stress and sadness that goes along with that. :grouphug:

Dana: Great splits!!!

Judy: Wow...wasn't that weather intense last night?! Wooo-Hoooo those winds were pretty wild.

Jodi: What a wonderful surprise for your DH!!!

I'm still training...just taking off a few more days than usual this week to get the muscles rested. I had a fabulous run yesterday on my hill course....all sub 10 mpm splits so I was very pleased! I have a 6 miler scheduled on Saturday... :goodvibes can't wait to hit the new distance!!!

I'll just share one little tidbit. DD8 had a mother's day celebration in her 3rd grade class yesterday. Each child made a flower with petals and each petal had a word on it to describe "mom". They got to choose one word to use as they stepped up and said "If my Mom were a flower, I'd pick her because she is STRONG!". That's what my DD said! She also put down talented :cloud9: . I asked her why she wrote strong and talented on her petals and she said it's because I exercise and am running a marathon. It's so lovely to see they value all the time we put into our training...and they see that it makes us strong! (The talented part, LOL, not so sure about that one but the sentiment is wonderful!!!)

Have a great weekend everyone and HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all the moms!!! :sunny:

I've only got time for a quick post but I just wanted to post that

:cheer2: I'm leaving for WDW tomorrow morning :cheer2:

Has anyone been on the Expedition Everest ride yet???

I am such a ride chicken that I want to do it but I don't know if I'll be able to make myself do it. BTMR is about at the end of my tollerance level. I love speed (Test Track) but the drops (Splash) I can't handle.

So has anyone been on it that can tell me what it was like :confused3

Thanks!!!!!

(If I don't have another chance have a great weekend everyone! "See" you all again on Tuesday :cool1: )

Minnie -- I did EE 3 times on my solo trip last month. It is not nearly as scary as I thought it would be. My first time on it I was in the middle toward the back, and I actually thought it was pretty mild -- wasn't sure what all the hype was about. It was definitely more intense at the front. BTW, be sure to look around, especially at the beginning of the ride as you go around the first bend. The landscaping is gorgeous -- wildflowers everywhere!
Have a great time!

AmyBeth -- What a darling DD you have! I am so glad that she recognizes the effort you put in to your training and that it makes you strong!

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! :goodvibes: :grouphug:

I think it is much smoother than BTMRR and there are fewer jerky twists and turns. BTMRR is now one of those rides that I actually anticipate coming off of feeling a bit battered, but I'd go back on EE in a heartbeat. SO smooth and so much to see and enjoy. I had forgotten that it goes backwards until someone said something when it started and it really wasn't bad at all. I cannot think of anything negative to say about it. I hope you will try it just once and let me know what you think.

I am so excited :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: . I just talked to my boss and I was able to get the time off in January so I can go to WDW for the marathon weekend again. As I've posted previously, I am a budget analyst and the beginning of January is super busy as we close the prior year and set up the current year. My boss is a sweetheart, I think it helps that his wife is a triathlete!

Anyway, I have the time off. Now I have to get serious about deciding between the half and the full. I soooooo want that Mickey medal, but I am a walker and am a little worried about walking a full. I know people do it, but wow it seems a little overwhelming.

Hey Cam!

YOU are faster than me. I strictly walk in RL, although on the treadmill I usually do some intervals. I did see lots of true walkers outside of the AK at about 10:30 the marathon morning, so I know people do walk. And I talked to a walker on the boat from Epcot to MGM one morning, he said there are lots of people who exclusively walk. That Mickey medal is callling my name.....all I want to do is stay ahead of those darn sweepers. I am walking in Chicago in August with DH, and we are walking in DL in Sept, so I will be
getting in some good miles. I will have to think some more.

I have been getting to the track doing my work outs. I feel like I am slowly progressing. Tomorrow is my long walk/run. I am planning on doing 5.5 miles. The last few days have been a little stressful. My friend’s daughter (the one I mentioned above) has cerebral palsey & epilepsy. She has been having really bad seizures for the past few years. They finally decided it was time to do surgery on her brain to hopefully alleviate some of the seizures or at least where they aren’t as bad. She had her first surgery on Wed. and the second surgery will be this Wed. They have a rough few weeks ahead of them. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's!!!

Karen, will definitely be praying for your friend's daughter as she recovers and faces her next surgery!!
Minnie, Have FUN!!
Colleen, :dancer: :dancer: Great job on your spur of the moment half!!
Dana, Wow! Wonderful splits! DH says, "Adrenaline is a wonderful drug..." Once he got to WS, he knew he could make it. Afterwards.... :charac2: let's just say people would have a hard time believiing we had done a 15K!!!
Judy, Thanks for your kind comments. Your race will be here before you know it!

another drive by here...

I definitely won't be doing the tri. After passing out for the second time ever in my life (and the second time in the last two months) I ended up at the ER and was diagnosed with pneumonia (however you spell it).

That explains why a 9:35 pace felt labored at the 5k when my normal 5K is 8:20ish! So now feeling like a toughy (or idiot as the case may be), I'll post picts of the race:

http://sunnyshopper.com/clipart/may7_5k/race1.bmp

http://sunnyshopper.com/clipart/may7_5k/race3.bmp

I've learned one thing: work stress and sleep depreviation are harder on the body than marathon training! I'm on antibiotics now so I'll be good to go soon.

Pay no attention to the tiny girl right in front of us. She's obviously an athlete in disguise :rotfl2:

Morning Everyone!

Sunny- your pic with the little girl made me laugh. In every race I try to pick out a little kid I think I can beat. I never do, but it is fun to watch how fast those little boogers can run. They're amazing! Feel better girl, okay?!

Dave- I'm so excited your shins are feeling better! What good news. Your training seems to be going really well. Congrats!

I haven't done any running since last weekend. DH is on 12 hour shifts at the hospital (nursing school) so my training partner has been dead tired. I have made sure to get my steps in by shopping! That counts, right?!?! The Wal-mart workout.... :scratchin Hmmm..

I've been maintaining my weightloss which I'm finding amazing. Normally it's either going up or down. I would prefer down, but what can you expect with minimal exercise? :confused3

Sending :flower2: :flower: :daisy: for all the mothers this weekend! I'm so proud of us all!

this so funny, because for me it's vice versa: I work for an American company in Germany. I had to travel to the States for business reasons only once so far. My company headquarters are located in Denver, CO.

Amy-That is so cute. My DS (who is also in 3rd grade) did one of those too. He put I was loving & and a runner who likes races. Also that I do races with him and by myself. It is cool to see this rubbing off on them

Anne- I just noticed your sig. Are you going to be in DL ? That is great!

I am taking this week off from training. Will start back some next week. We are going back to WDW in 4 weeks for DH work so I am trying to plan what we are going to squeeze into that trip. Definately a water park.

Pat - you can do the full! I think there are lots of people who walk the full!

Just posting that I completed my longest run ever today. I did 6 miles with a 4r/1w ratio. The plan is to do this distance for my long run for a few weeks leading up to the Peachtree 10k in July. I completed it in 58:54 and my splits were 9:00/9:44/9:48/10:23/10:05/9:54...needless to say I am very pleased!!

Hope everyone out there has a great weekend!! I enjoyed all of the race reports from last weekend...the WISH Racing team was represented well!!!

Dave - Good luck this weekend. My thoughts are definitely with you.

Cam - :grouphug: for you too. This is my first Mother's Day without my mom and I'm not looking forward to it at all!

Minnie - Rode EE last weekend for the 1st time, and I was fighting migraines all weekend. We were in the last car, and I thought it was a little bumpy, but not that much different from BTMR. The drop was nothing like Splash - I wasn't at all sure we'd actually gone down the big drop when it was over! The only reason I felt it was jerky was because my head already wanted to hurt - otherwise I wouldn't have noticed it at all.

Jodi - You're much better at keeping secrets than I am! I think I was able to keep quiet for about a week when I booked a trip right before Christmas for the following March and put the confirmation in DH's stocking and the UOG in DD's stocking, but we spend way too much time obsessing over planning .

Sunny - Please take it easy and get better soon! I can't believe you ran with pneumonia! What a trooper!

Nancy - I feel so bad that we got the 2 tshirts! Hope they get them in the mail soon. I wish I'd gotten the photos before I got the survey.

Guess I need to get out and be active today. Last night was the first night I've really been able to sleep since we got home, and boy did I need it. I've been really lazy so far today and really enjoyed it!

Good luck to everyone running today!

Jackie

Hey everyone! Remember me? I've missed you!

Sunny, I am so sorry about your being sick! Please take care of yourself.

I haven't read any. I will try later. It's been crazy busy for me. I did manage my training today with the Saturday group. It wasn't pretty, but at least I went and did it. It is amazing how quickly one loses it all if one doesn't keep up with the movement.

I will read later. WISHing all the best.

I did get the survey from the Minnie! Checked my email after I got off here and sure enough, there it was! Disney has now gotten feedback from me!

Karen Sorry to hear about your friend's daughter. Prayers on their way to them.

Cam Although I lost my Mom many years ago, it still hurts because I would so love to share my life now with her. Prayers and PD to you, also Jackie on this Mom's Day

Jackie Please don't feel bad about the shirts. You only took what they told you that you were entitled to. Besides, your shirt never would have fit me anyway! :earseek: I think you and your DH did a WDW "marathon" weekend in addition to the Minnie! You really squeezed in a lot of activities in a short time!

Jodi Great job on your 5K! Excellent pace! Being a former Ct resident, it was good to see Al Terzi in your pics! Nice to see a familiar face! As for your surprise, I'd never be able to do it!

Sunny You're amazing! You ran a 5K with pneumonia! Glad to hear you finally got to a DR, even if it took getting knocked over to do it. Oh, wait, that sounds just like what I would do. Wait till I pass out before I admit something is wrong! Hope you are starting to feel better!

Scott Great run!

Pat Glad to hear you will be able to get the time off in Jan! I
ll bet you CAN do the full!

Anne How's your DH's blistered feet doing?

Colleen Great job in Vancouver!

Lynne, Lynnda Hope you had a great race! You're probably done by now. It was Sat (today) for both of you, wasn't it?

:flower1: :flower1: Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms! :flower1: :flower1:

Oh don't get me wrong, I have a very hard time keeping secrets but this I'm trying hard not to break the news about. I just really want to surprise the hect out of him. He's my best friend and he simply MUST be at Disney with me during Marathon weekend. I will have a hard time keeping the secret until October.

Wow - I so envy you.....I wish I was able to leave CT for FL :). Then you must be a Huskie fan right, I was at one point today, very close to Rebecca Lobo.....although, she was with her family and I did not want to bug her then for a picture. Rebecca has the most adorable little girl (looks a lot like her). Her Mom is a cancer survivor and they walked the 1 mile walk together :goodvibes

I just read a few posts - I will gte back on track posting and reading this thread tomorrow.

Sunny - take care of yourself! :grouphug:

Jodi - you did awesome, and I love your pictures!

I went to the Big Lake Half Marathon in NH this morning to cheer on Chad (dh) and my friend Stacey (her first 1/2). It was miserable for both the runners & spectators - it's been pouring all day! I froze but was very glad I was there to cheer them on & take some pictures.

Wasn't Lynne doing this race? Afterwards when Chad went to change into dry clothes at the school, I saw someone jump into a red Oldsmobile with the Lady footlocker bag from the Minnie. I was kinda thinking that may have been one of "us"... :scratchin I should have jumped out and asked her - oh well!
