Hi. We're taking my Grandmother to see Mickey next month and we've rented her an electric scooter. I didn't order her the canopy that can go with it. Should I call back and order that too? Is it worth the extra $5 a day or will she be okay with a hat? Plus, we ordered it from Scootarama. Anyone have any experience with them?

My understanding is the canopy is more trouble than it's worth. If you are going to using Disney tranportation it tends to get in the way for both the buses and monorails and if you are driving yourself it is one more thing to disassemple and store in the car.

Anyway, the canopy only works when the sun is high in the sky and/or you are driving away from the sun. You see very few scooters with canopies.

I haven't heard anything bad about them.

We saw a few scooters with canopies on our last trip and saw exactly what Cheshire Figment mentioned; the canopies were up, but they were not blocking the sun at all.
So, probably the only reason I would pay extra would be if the person using it was very sensitive to sun.

Where can you rent them? Does Disney have a phone number, or website for information?

If you look in the disABILITIES FAQs questions thread, there is information on where to rent ECVs. There are links and phone numbers for places to rent, or you can rent from the parks. The park ones can't be reserved ahead of time, can only be used in that park and don't have canopies.
