View Full Version : I learned something AMAZING about the studio's @ BWV

I almost didn't want to post this, because of the whole 'room occupancy' thing, but I thought it may be good info for a family of 5, not needing much space, just a place to sleep, and wanting to save some points.
***disclaimer*** I did not ask for this, I did not beg the MS to make an exception. So, do not flame me for something Disney does at its own resort. Thank you.
Today, I called MS to cancel one night of my Vero Beach reservation, so we could book a night on Disney property, so we can go up and spend time at Animal Kingdom for EE. I did not want to have to borrow more points (Vero room was 22 points, BWV was 30, for a one bedroom) so, Dh was going to stay behind and play golf, while I took the kids up to Animal Kingdom, because I knew 5 of us would not be allowed in a studio. While she was booking the STUDIO, she asked me if it would be the same party that was staying at Vero. I told her no, to take my husband off, and just book me and the kids. She asked if he was stayiong behind because of the fact that we were getting a studio. I said well, yeah, a studio only sleeps 4. She then told me, there are a limited number of studio's at BWV that will accomodate 5 people. They bring in a roll-away. :cheer2:
Well, I about fell of my chair. So, of course, she was happy to inform me, my DH could join us after all, she booked all 5 of us in a studio, and put down a request for a roll away. WOW. :cool1:
Considering, we would literally be using the room to sleep for one night, I am so happy they can offer us this.
So for all of you who think that just because Disney allows it, I am still abusing the room occupancy, I will count the hours we are actually in the room, I will list everything we touch, so that you won't have to worry about wear and tear of 5 people in a room for 4. I can almost guarantee we will be in the room less than 10 hours total. :teeth:

Congrats! But I wouldn't be totally surprised if they tell you "no rollaway" when you check in.
Either way, enjoy your trip!

That's good news for you! However, I think they are not rollaways, rather it is more of a daybed. These studios are called "studio plus" and they have the regular queen bed and sleep sofa as well as a daybed/bench that would be comfortable for a child. I could be totally wrong on this, but that's just what I heard from MS once.

On our first DVC trip to BWV we only had 4 in the room but because DD then 23 did not want to share bed with DS 12 (and he felt the same) we asked about a cot or rollaway and were given one for a $15 a night charge. We had plenty of room and were not over the 4 in a room but I am glad someone else has finally been told there are roll-aways available as so many have said there are none available. Hope you have a great trip!

Read this March 3 post that I made after a Presidents' week vacation at the BWV: Link (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1047119) .
This post may have solved the mystery?

Take a look at this Link (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1047119) to a post I made following our Presidents' week trip. Might the mystery be solved?

Yes, the mystery is solved, they have rollaway's available at BWV. It was a GREAT surprise for me today, and she did not say anything to me about it being an extra charge. I will say, she did emphasize the word "limited" when she was telling me it was a limited number of studio's that offer this.
Now, the new mystery would be, is this something new DVC has started, or has it been a well kept secret, and I am letting the cat out of the bag???? :confused3

No, she specifically said rollaway. Maybe they are limited in the studios, because the room's with the daybed would not fit a rollaway?

Please, please post the results of this when you get home. I would really like to know if rollaways are available at the villas as this would be great for us! :cool1:
BWV indeed has roll aways, they simply made the decision not to use them in the Villas. When BWV was in the process, they stated Roll Aways would be available then retracted that sometime around the time they opened. I do know there has been limited activity but feel comfortable stating that it is unusual and one should not count on it.

I'm sorry, but this is so wrong. I have e-mailed MS to get a clarification on this. Wrong, wrong.

I would also not count on this. What one CM gives, another can take away. I'm sure the BWI has rollaways, and I'm sure they occationally end up on the Villas side, but I wouldn't count on it.

I asked when making reservation last year at the Boardwalk about rollaways. Happily I would have paid extra rather then dragging an air mattress on the plane. I was told No Rollaways. I even called right before leaving to confirm (as it was the first time I was staying as a member). Again I was told no rollaways. How wonderful if that has changed. I would have rathered booked one studio with a rollaway then two for this upcoming trip to WL.

I too have been offerred Roll-Aways at BWV for Studios and more frequently 1 Bedrooms.
I was told they are very limited and 'borrowed' from BWI.
I was amazed, and have been told this by 3 different DVC-Guides at least 4 times.
However, when I get to a longterm Guide, they state, "No rollaways."
So, it is either a few newer Guides with bad info, a very rare exception, or a relatively new policy that the experienced guides don't know about.
Because of the confusion, and the breaking of the 'rules' I have not offered this to any of my guests (as I don't want them disappointed at check-in), nor have I used it for my family.
Good luck and let us know.
Also, does it appear on your confirmation letter?

I'll let you know when I get it, I just made the reservation yesterday.
I don't really care if there is a rollaway for us or not when we check in, the thing I am happy and amazed about, is that 5 of us are checked into a studio. I made it clear to her, that my youngest was 6, so she didn't think she was booking us with a child under 3. She confirmed that it didn't matter, with the rollaway, the studio could accomodate the 5 of us. I would hate to get all the way there, from Vero, WITH my DH, to find out they will not let the 5 of us in a studio. I would hope, that if the CM was wrong, as some CM's can be wrong, that the computer would override a family of 5 being booked into a studio.
I knew DVC allows 5 to book a 1 bedroom, with the disclaimer that they offer no additional bedding for the 5th person, but I thought 4 was the absolute max for a studio, no if's, and's, or but's about it.
Believe me, I am not going to abuse this new info, and I may now be regretting posting this, because if it was something that DVC throws out there "once in a while" for their guests, maybe like us, only staying one night, I would hate to think they may now get some pushy people demanding a studio, because they know a family of 5 is allowed.
UGH, this could get ugly. :sad2:

Whoa! You know what? I am recalling part of the conversation with the CM from yesterday, and this may make a difference in what DVC considers a "rollaway".
She was confirming my party size, asking "2 adults, 1 junior and 2 children?" (this is when I corrected her and said just 1 adult and the 3 kids). The reason I corrected her on the age of my youngest, was she said "toddler bed" when she was explaining the rollaway. I told her my youngest was 6,(thinking she may be assuming he was under 3) and she said that was OK, a 6 year old can fit in a toddler bed.
Hmmm.....so now I wonder, if they know it is a family with small children, and all 5 are on the reservation, they may offer the toddler bed, like they offer a crib for an infant, and they may be stricter with actual rollways, because of people with 4 on the reservation, sneaking someone in.
Does that make sense?
Boy, now I can't wait to get there, and find out. :teeth:

I called MS to day to see if I could book a rollaway bed for our May trip.
We are a party of 4 in a one bedroom a boy 12 and girl 4 who can't sleep togther. MS told me they don't allow extra bedding or bed in the Villas. I quess I'll have to pack a bed for the 4 year old.

What resort are you staying at? From the way the CM said it, I want to assume that we are talking about just BWV. To quote her she said "There are a limited number of studio's at BWV that allow 5 people in a studio because of a rollaway bed"

To me, its sounding more and more like she misspoke and was referring to the "daybed" in some BWV studios. Some BWV studios do have a daybed, which will fit a small child (apparently a seven year old, maybe a small nine year old). However, these are no longer a guarenteed class of rooms and are not directly bookable. This makes the five in a studio problem difficult for BW because you can have a fifth older than three small child in that studio, but they won't guarentee you get it.

I'm with crisi - they said "limited number of studios" not "limited number of rollaways".
I also wonder if there is confusion caused by cross-pollenation of CMs from non-DVC resorts where they may have rollaways to DVC resorts where they do not.

I'm also with Crisi the MS CM I spoke to checked with her supervisor and she said bedding is available for 5 in a studio if one is a young child.
I think they are referring to the daybed bench which is small. I'm staying at the BWV.

:thumbsup2 And that would be fine. I am just thrilled to have 5 booked in a studio, all 3 kids can sleep in the 2nd bed, so rollaway, no rollaway, daybed or no day bed, the fact that I only have to use 14 points as opposed to 30, makes me very, very happy! :cheer2:

So, if they are not guaranteed requests, then booking 5 in a studio could get messy at check in. WOW. Like I said in an earlier post, all 3 kids can fit in the queen bed, so even if a daybed room is not available when we check in, as long as they allow the 5 of us in a regular studio, all will be good.

My own two cents is that if all the names appear on the reservation, you'll be fine at check in. But then this turns into the dreaded occupancy debate, and I don't want to go there.
