How long does it typically take once you submit your passport application to receive the passport back? Thanks in advance. :)

They told us 4-6 weeks, but it only took about 2 1/2 weeks. (that was 6 years ago, things may have changed!)

It took us about 3 weeks to get ours back. However, with the deadline being the end of the year I would think the times may increase because they will be dealing with an extra influx of applications.

DH and I got ours in a little over four weeks. They had a problem with DD16's though -- I think the post office clerk didn't certify something right, so we had to mail copies of a parents driver license to them. We just mailed copies of both parents to avoid the possibility of it being rejected or something. Anyway, they then processed the passport and we got it, too, fairly quickly. So, we actually sent them away via the post office on March 14 -- I got mine April 14, DH got his April 15, we got a letter about DD16's on April 17 and sent them back the info, and she got hers on April 26. We're sailing in June and know we didn't need them for this trip, so we weren't really worried if we didn't get them done quickly, but still, I was surprised they did it that quickly because so many people seem to be starting to get them.

We received our renewal in three weeks -- well before our trip to Venice, Italy.

We applied for ours in the beginning of March and just received them last week, so about 8-10 weeks.

The longer you wait this year (2006) the longer the wait to receive your passport since everyone returning home to the USA after December 31, 2006 will be required to have one.

I wouldn't push the timeframe too close. I would give yourself 3 months to receive the passports without paying extra for the expidited service.

I applied for a renewal for two of my kids and a brand-new passport for the third child on April 1st. They all arrived on April 28th. I however mailed my renewal in on April 1st, (thought I'd save some money), and have yet to receive it. I checked the status online and they're telling me it'll be here by May 16th.

You can check the Status online? HOW?

The State Department has a web site -
www.travel.state.gov/passport. In the tool bar on the left there's a link to check status online. They basically tell you if they received it and when they expect to return it.

DH dropped his passport application off to the post office this past Saturday. He was told to expect it in about six weeks.

Last year when I applied during the "rush" because of the first deadline, I was told the official party line was 8 weeks but they have been averaging 6 weeks. Sure enough I got it in 6 weeks. But why not just get it know, in 9 years when it is time to renew a few weeks or months won't make that much difference.

We took DS to apply for his last Friday. We went to our county circuit court since I know many of the clerks there (occupational hazzard). Anyway, the clerk said she was advised that they are taking 4-5 months for non-expedited and not to be surprised if it took that long. Previously, I think the Dept of State said 6-8 weeks. We may get it faster, of course, but seems like its definitely getting busier. Fortunately, we don't cruise until next May and I won't need them until final payment is due in February.

I think its fair to say that if you'll need it next year, get it early so you don't have to expedite it and pay a lot more. This is especially true for January cruisers because DCL requires the number when final payment is due so really you need them 3 months earlier than your cruise. If it really is taking as long as I was told, I'd get it just in time to make final payment for a January cruise if I applied for it NOW. :scared:

Ours came in a couple of weeks ago. The status on their website indicated it would take 6 weeks, but it was more like 7 weeks. My name was spelled wrong, so I had to send it back - they corrected it quickly, though - it has already come back. We were relieved to get that detail taken care of.

I'm at 6 weeks for a renewal. It should be here next week according to the State Dept. web site.

My DH (Andy99) checked the status of the kid's passports last night. They said we should be getting them around 5/15 so that will be about 8 - 10 weeks that it took to get them. Thanks for the link!

Myself, Son, and daughter applied at the post office on April 12th, and just received our passports today, May 3rd in the mail. Three weeks not bad!
