Happiest Celebration on Earth Swap?!?? for anyone

Okay here is the deal. I have never done a swap, but have read almost every thread on this board and think I can manage to do one if it is small. So..... There were two reponses: potterphreak and mickeyfan2 to a Happiest Celebration on Earth swap. If everyone can promise to be patient and kind with me I would like to host it. Here is the clincher... I cannot manage a huge swap so this would be limited to 12 people. If I have 12 people with interest I will post rules and what not and collectively we can vote on a due date. The one comment I would like to solict from people as they sign up is the colors for Happiest Celebration on Earth seemed to be red, blue, and gold. Did we want to say that those where the primary colors to be used in swap? Pleae post you sign up onto this thread that way I can just take the first 11 people, no disagreement over who is in and who is out.

I'm in but might need some help on figuring out what kindof themes we would make or would they need to be just colors? I think this was for both the Disneyland and WDW people so we don't want to do anything that is specific to just one park.

To reply to the person who said that this is a theme in both parks, yes it can cover both parks. We could keep the item characters only that way it is not specfic to either park. I wouldn't want to do just colors, but was suggesting maybe we suggest the primary colors of elements be the gold, red, or blue. It all depends on how everyone else feels.

As to due date my original thought was the end of June, but am open to suggestions. How does everyone feel about that?

The castle is the same for both parks? I know some of the lands are the same, but not which ones.

Certain rides are the same......

But what about these this make the connection to the Happiest Celebration of Earth? Color theme?

I know there are very creative people out there so let's figure this out! :)

I have nine people interested so far, some depending on date. I do not see any reason why we could not push due date to mid-July. I was selfishly hoping earlier becuase I have a trip at the end of May and was hoping to not have to wait too long. :( But again July works.

Those who would need more guidance on elements that what this post is trying to address. Let's see what my Happiest Celebration on Earh packet I bought in Disney has....

Not too much I am afraid. Logo stickers, character stickers... most in "fancy clothing," photoframes with Happiest Celebration on Earth written, photocorners, and a few papers. We can do better, I guess that is why I suggested theme in the first place.

The castles aren't the same. WDW has Cinderella Castle, while at DL it is Sleeping Beauty.

Lands that are the same: Main Street, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland

Part of the celebration were "gifts" from park to park, so Epcot got Soarin' (which is at DCA), DL got Buzz Lightyear (which is at MK), although the name is slightly different (Buzz Lightyear Astroblasters vs Space Ranger Spin), both parks got Turtle Talk

Both parks have the Partners statue, so something to do with Walt would be appropriate.

Perhaps certain words could be incorportated: magic, imagination, wishes, memories

edit: expanding on this...the 50th souvenier book they made for DL, is organized by chapters - Dreams, traditions, surprises, adventure, fun, thrills, music, secrets, enchantment, forever dreaming. Maybe pick a word and a character to incorporate?

And I would be interested in participating. :)

I was thinking about the new attractions specifically for the 50th year. Like Cinderellabration ahd what not. But again I have no idea what is at DL.

I like Hope's idea about using the chapter headings as inspiration.

Could we pick characters for each decade of Disney? Hmm not sure each decade has a corresponding character. My first thought was Snow White... but the movie was way before the parks. Just thinking out loud sorry.

I like the headings suggestion. I don't really like the idea of making our items character specific. There are always character swaps and I think that for this, it should be a little more general. Just my opinion! :confused3

I like the idea of using the words. Maybe everyone could select a word for their title and then could create something else to go with it that would coordinate for the page.

I REALLY like the idea that Hopemax suggested with the headings from the DL 50th Anniversary souvenier book! Personally, I would prefer to stay away from this being a character swap, though.

I can also see embellishments maybe being one other element to go with the headings for this swap, too, so that people can design their pages for their own experience of the 50th anniversary.

That's the only reason I suggested the character thing too. I didn't know if a word would be enough inspiration, and if we were going to limit colors to the colors that Disney is using in it's materials. I just had an image of Alice sitting on the bank of the river that seemed to go well with "Forever Dreaming," not that the piece would be an Alice piece, just that a small embellishment of Alice daydreaming might reinforce the concept of "Forever Dreaming," the Fairy Godmother might reinforce the concept of Enchantment, etc. I was trying to think of something that would be relevant for both parks and didn't think attractions, and stil just trying to get to "something more."

But if you guys think the words are enough inspiration.

I actually like the idea of a color scheme. That way if you used them in a whole book it would have a nice flow.

What if everyone had a word/saying and then made another item to go along with that. It could include a character if you wanted or anything else you felt would go on the same page. We might end up with some of the same extras as far as type but they will all be different in theme.

I know that you already have everyone for the swap but these are the things I speciafically remember about the Happiest Celebration and what came to each park for it:
WDW:
MK: Castle makeover with characters and gold trim, Wishes, Cinderellabration (from Japan)
EPCOT: Turtle Talk, Soarin' (from CA), 50 Hidden Mickey's in the Flower and Garden Show (2004)
MGM: LMA (From Paris)
AK: Lucky (Anomated Dino that walks and talks with people 1st at DL, then AK, now Hong Kong)

Disneyland: I don't know as many specifics but I do know that they added gold vehicles to many of the rides and opened Monsters Inc, Buzz Lightyear, wasn't Block Party Bash and Dreams Come True Fireworks part of this, Tower of Terror, Renovations of Space Mountain.

Saignage at WDW is Purple with Pink writing and Gold embelishments.

Primary colors to use are definately gold, red, and blue. What does everyone think about pink and purple? yes they were the color of the banners on main street?

Chose one word (to be listed in next email) and create an element with that word (border, large tag etc), one embellishment to go with word, and quote or journal box (is that last one too much?) That would mean you are making 3 items times 14 people = 42 things. Maybe that is too much. THat is if all 14 people are still in. Group vote what do we think?

Since I am going to assume for the moment we will go with my suggestions of 3 elements per word, than I would say Monday July 24th as due date that way I have a week for stranglers etc. And we would potenially get our packages first week of August.

What does everyone think? I do not want anyone to not particpate that is on the above list so please chime in. Again this is my first time so any comments are appreciated.

I do not think we really need to define embellishment... that could be part of the fun. I agree with previous post on what she was thinking. I am cool if it is coordinating photo frame. Sticker mounted on something, tag, envelope, it all depend on how into it you want to get.

Like I was thinking Imagination (although not one of ten so seeing what other people think) and making my embellishment be the follow the bouncing figment to some of the words to the song of the attraction. Even if the ride is not at DL Figment is a classic disney character. Just a thought (not married to it) just thinking out loud. I think this swap will be a little more free flow as far as defining things. As previously stated a item with word, embellishment, and possibly quote or journal box could in theory give someone a whole page.

And Figment, while I love him to death, was created for Epcot, and he doesn't have any exposure outside of Epcot. I have friends who only go to DL and they had no idea who he was. Potterfreak is the one who has only been to DL, is there anyone else? If they have no problem with Figment, then I don't want to step on anyones toes and it is your swap :figment: .

I think having three elements is enough.

When I mentioned embellishments before, I was suggesting a possibility of the little bag of embellishments we often have as an option for one of our elements that includes (but not limited to) a total of 6 brads, eyelets, or charms, etc. etc. and a yard of ribbon or fiber, etc.

I assume we will be embellishing each of our elements, too, like we usually do?
When we embellish our elements (ie: decorate our elements with brads, eyelets, charms, stickers, or whatever), do the embellishments have to be in the red, blue, gold colors?

Also, could you please clarify the colors? Is it red, blue, and metalic gold (which I think is what is being used in the parks' colors) or just a yellowish-orange color?

Please please PLEASE define exactly WHAT I need to make and how many of them, *** you say I need to make an embellishment and I say, HUH?!? LOL Pardon my ignorance, but I have no idea what that means. So, if you say you need to make 14 of either toppers, journalling boxes, or photo mats (or whatever the element I choose is-see I know what an element is! LOL) AND 14 shakerboxes, or whatever else an "embellishment" is, then I will be happy. LOL I understand you don't want to define embellishment as in "so and so is making this and this" but if you could give me a broad definition like, embellishments can be ......

To verify yes, Metallic gold not yellow. Embellishments do not need to be the primary colors, but maybe a may behind them could be depending on what you were doing. Just assume your elements are going to be used on the same page and cooridinate. It may be that when people go to use them the spilt them up or add more of their own, but that is there thing. Just want continuty for album so primary colors to use would be red, blue, and metalic gold. Let's face it though for disney any primary color is cool.

I don't think we necessarily need to specify the brand of paper, but it's likely that the reds and blues will be different. If people are wanting them to be close in color, if there is any online example of the shade you're wanting, maybe there could be a link to that shade for comparison? (IE: is it a red, red; tomato red, etc........a royal or navy blue?). Otherwise, being in the ballpark is OK, I guess.

It's hard to see the red, but I think it's slightly darker, and slightly pinker than a red/red, more of a jewel tone.

Or if you go to Disneyland's webpage http://disneyland.disney.go.com/dlr/special/golden/index the blues and reds they are using...that's what I am going to try to match to.

About the pictures, you have to upload your pictures first, go to www.photobucket.com , open an account, then you upload your pictures, then you can copy/paste the pic URL, you right click on the image, then on the bottom click on PROPERTIES, then you'll see the URL address in the middle, right click on it, then copy, then you can paste it here.

2. Post your weekly status on the Progress thread - which will be posted after the slots are filled.
3. Check the progress thread for your status - it will be updated with ship info and received info.
4. Packing Instructions - use a Ziploc for each person and put everything for that person into their bag. Please label each bag with your name so we know who made each element. You‘ll have 12 bags to enclose in the larger (gallon size) Ziploc bag. - be sure to include your name, your DIS name. On the larger envelope please put your mailing address on your bag.
5. Please use the Flat Rate Envelopes ($4.05) or the Flat Rate Box ($8.10) to mail your packages of goodies to me! Include $4.05 for envelope postage (or stamps if you don't want to send cash) to return your items or $8.10 for the box postage.
6. PM me if you have problems and need to drop out or if an emergency happens (we all know things happen beyond our control sometimes), let me know so we can make arrangements for an angel or other help if needed.

What to make:
A. You will create a topper or border with your word embellished
b. 1 journal box or quotation using word, or 1 Matted Poem or song Lyric using word (double matted and embellished, stickers, stamps, ribbon etc)
c. an embellishment which can be: 2 vertical borders, 4 Embellished squares - (double matted) 4 per person, 1 Frame - (embellished) see note above for journal box, 1 photo mat, 1 tag, 1 Slide Mounts, 1 Box n Tag - (1 of each- Above rules apply),1 mini file folder, 1 library pocket and tag, 1 Shaker Box, 1 Paper Piecing or anything else you may think of and agree on by majority

Reading your instructions it only says send 12 baggies of goodies which does not include one for us but I remember reading that some hostess wanted one for everyone so that it makes it easier to get everything ready for return. 1. PM me with your DIS name, name and address - so I can pre-address the return envelopes.
2. Post your weekly status on the Progress thread - which will be posted after the slots are filled.
3. Check the progress thread for your status - it will be updated with ship info and received info.
4. Packing Instructions - use a Ziploc for each person and put everything for that person into their bag. Please label each bag with your name so we know who made each element. You‘ll have 12 bags to enclose in the larger (gallon size) Ziploc bag. - be sure to include your name, your DIS name. On the larger envelope please put your mailing address on your bag.
5. Please use the Flat Rate Envelopes ($4.05) or the Flat Rate Box ($8.10) to mail your packages of goodies to me! Include $4.05 for envelope postage (or stamps if you don't want to send cash) to return your items or $8.10 for the box postage.
6. PM me if you have problems and need to drop out or if an emergency happens (we all know things happen beyond our control sometimes), let me know so we can make arrangements for an angel or other help if needed.

What to make:
A. You will create a topper or border with your word embellished

I have no problem pushing back the date. I orginally said beginning of July, people voiced concerns, so we settled on July 24th, or at least I thought. If people are still concerned throw out some dates. Since I am not invovled in any other swaps I want this done ASAP :Pinkbounc I am too excited to wait (images of the little boy and girl on the commercial were they are going to disney and they are too excited to sleep), but I am an adult I can make myself wait :hourglass I think :rolleyes1 Anyway, if people need a later date throw some out and we will make a group desision. Normally I think the dates are set by the host/hostess but as I did this as a poll in the begining I am all for concenus!

I was hoping maybe we could kind of get to know each other. I am super interested in seeing everyones work and getting to know all about y'all.

My name is CJ and I live in California. I am married and have 2 amazing daughters, ages 6 and 3. DH and I are just starting to try for baby #3 (yay! LOL). I have been scrapping ever since I had my first daughter in 1999. At first I did very basic pages and then I moved up to adding paper and titles and stickers and then on to different kinds of borders and just recently I have started messing around with ribbon, brads and even eyelets (ok, I have BOUGHT the eyelets just afraid to try them so far! LOL). I am 27 years old and work at our family owned & operated church, Universal Life Church. Hmm what else? I have never been to WDW but we are planning a trip for 2008. In 11/05 I bought my very first Annual Pass to Disneyland and I am loving it!! I think that's about it. Anyone else interested in sharing any info?

Poetterfreak- DH and I are trying for number 2?3? also!!!

To explain the question marks, I have a stepdaughter-10 almost 11, one I gave birth to (1 1/2 Yrs old) , and we are trying for another, so depending on whose counting that makes the second or third. Anyway.

I live in NJ, hate it, want to move. DH got me into Disney, he is the freak not me, I just come up with creative ways to keep Disney memories. I have always been a picture freak though. My walls and covered with picture frames!! If you look at my photos you'll quickly realize the places my husband and I enjoy most are WDW and Key West. If you look at the rest of the pictures you would think I very take the camera off my 1 1/2 year old :)

I have scrapped for about two years now, before that (and I guess still now but to a lesser degree) I craft anythign and everything. Knitting and crocheting were my favorite for awhile ( I think it came along with the whole trying to have a baby and then pregnancy thing) and now if anad when I have free time it is usually for scrapbooking or reading.

I like any craft activite, I sew,cross stich, knitting, crochet, since age 12, thanks to my Grandmother and my old mean Aunt Nina, she was an old single lady, and we (Me and my little sister, she was like 8 or 9 ) had to go to her house 3 times a week to spend time with her, and our chores were, sewing, cooking, knitting, crochet, etc, etc, etc, :crazy: 3 times a week for 4 hours, no TV, no playing ball, not until our chores were done. Try that now! :lmao:

MyLittlePiglet, wow, trying make a new baby when your youngest is 1.5, you're braver than me!!! My oldest and my youngest are 3 years, 9 months apart and that's what we are trying to copy with this new baby. 9 days until we begin "actively" trying :teacher: yay, isn't that supposed to be the fun part? LOL How long have you and your DH been trying? I am super nervous! To get pregnant with DD6, it took 18 months. With DD3, I got pregnant 3 days after I threw away my birth control pills (LMAO!!!). This time, I am terrified that it will take forever again. Oh well, it is what is. Like I said, the fun is in the trying.... :smokin:

I am not sure how you missed it either. It has continued to be the same post/thread. I asked people to confirm their interest and pick a word. When everyone had replied and I had given everyone like 4-5 days I ammused you weren'tnterested anymore because of due date or rules or something. Sorry. I am not sure that it is fair to ask everyone to make one more set on items and include you in (again?). Again I am sorry, M

Potterphreak-

My husband and I went off birthcontrol in March. I was on the Depo shot and they say anywhere for 3-6 months to become fertile again. I had a mini period already and should be getting my period again this week. If I do I know that I am probably ovulating again. The first time I go pregnant I had a miscarriage (i was barely pregnant if you know what I mean) and then when my husband and I were finally ready to try we got pregnant the first month (in Disney, it was very funny) We planned a relazing vacation for when we knew I would be ovalulating.

Yeah the whole having another baby so soon is scary and then not. To be honest I didn't have the easiest first pregnancy and am nervous how this one is going to go with already having a toddler to care for now. In hind sight pregnancy and the first year where REALLY REALLy hard and I am not looking ofrward to it again. However I have to go through that again to have the 1, and 2 ,etc year old that I adore. It is just is a whole other world once you sleep through the night again and after they stop breastfeeding etc. I love being a Mommy, but would skip the first year if possible :)

And actually in hind sight again I probably would have tried to get pregnant agin sooner to have the kids even closer in age. The way we are trying for (pregnant by the fall) they would be about 3 years apart in age and two years apart in school. It works for us. Okay i have babbled on far to long with far too many typos :)

AK was so crowded you could hardly move on Saturday. Sunday at MGM was good as far as crowds but evene being from South Florida we couldn't keep going into the evening with the heat. Wow was it hot, Sunday was a day with record breaking temps. AK is sure miserable on hot days, I much prefer going in the winter but I have a short trip in June (just a few hours on the way to visit Gramndmom) and then we will stop goping back until the fall.

Are all the elements supposed to be exactly alike? Example: and can you believe I actually took the time to think of something I am NOT doing so no one would know what I am doing. If I were making photo mats and was going to embellish with stickers and I bought stickers that had say 2 sheets 15 stickers all different. Could I embellish one person photo frame with a mickey sticker and one with tinkerbell etc and it still be fair..... or should they all by identical?

i would think it'd be ok...as long as your photo frames are the same. it wouldn't make sense for you to buy 16 (or how many ever) sets of stickers, so you can use the mickey ones, and what would you do w/the rest? that's a lot of stickers not being used!! and this swap would cost everyone a big fortune!

of course, unless there's a "rule" somewhere...i'm really new to this as well. so this is just my opinion... :flower:
